You can feel you are an appreciated customer from the time you enter (yes cover charge) until you leave. You can tell the staff here love their job. Their job is to entertain, and that is exactly what happens, from the on stage performers to the waitresses and security crew. I loved the "pay to put your phrase here" on the mirrors. The performing artists try to accommodate requests from the crowd (that you write on a form and submit...hopefully with a tip). You can register to win a party, which is why I was there, as a guest of someone who won one! The crowd seems to be a good mix of people from all ages and social stature. Great place to people watch! A great place for a celebration...birthday, anniversary, bachelorette/bachelor party, divorce, new job, etc. They have some pretty interesting cocktail options (and sizes), and you can keep the container it is served in for a keepsake. I only had a couple of issues: 1) POSTED RULE: You cannot move the tables, so our group was spread out and we had a difficult time communicating. 2) There is no food (after the pitiful happy hour offering). However, you can let the waitress know you want to eat and they will get a menu and waitress from Hard Rock Cafe to come and take/bring your order. I would suggest to the management to come up with some sort of signature snack that people could munch on.

The dilemma: you want to get there early enough so you can nab some seats, but you don't want to sit around for 2 hours before the place *really* gets going. I love the idea of Howl at the Moon. And can have a fun time when I go. I think it is strange that they charge an extra dollar for drinks when you order them from a table than when you get them at the bar (at least that is what happened to me both times I have gone). And roping of several tables to save for bachelorette parties that don't show up until 1 or 2am is annoying. But if I find myself at 4th Street Live...this in one of two places I will happily go (at least for a little bit...)

This place is a lot of fun! My husband and I had a great time! Highly recommend! My favorite performance was the girl with the curly blonde and dark hair. She is an absolutely phenomenal singer and performer. She has a lot of energy and knows how to get the crowd going. I also like the guy that plays saxophone because he's a great pianist and singer and has a lot of energy. We got lucky coming on a Thursday and had no cover charge if we entered a drawing. We ended up winning a gift card from the drawing! There are several performers that rotate to different instruments throughout the night. I've never been to a piano bar where people play drums, guitar, bass, and saxophone; I was super impressed by the variety of instruments played and the versatility of the performers. My only critiques: 1) There was one performer who was super low energy on the piano, but rocks out on the drums. I wish they wouldn't put him front and center because he clearly does not enjoy being in the spotlight and really excels on the drums. When he is on the piano, the energy level in the bar noticeably drops. 2) They ran out of paper towels in the bathroom which were not replenished. 3) We went up to the bar to grab our own drinks all night because the drink server wasn't very attentive. The bartender was super nice though.

Anyone who doesn't think they like piano bars is a crazy person. If you like live music drinks and eats what more could you want. It's like a grown-up drunken sing-along! Drink prices are reasonable and I do not mind paying the $5 cover b/c I'm pretty sure it goes to the band. It takes INCREDIBLE TALENT to play any/all music and instruments and sing by request for a drunk crowd of crazy people. If everyone in your party drinks Vodka Red Bulls be smart and just order 4 Vodka Rocks with 1 Ala Carte Red Bull and then split it between you. You don't need more than that and it will save you aprox $4/round that you should in turn tip your waitress better for. Go with a group or couples or just a date night and don't take yourself so seriously. Its a great time!

The music was dank at this location. The ambience was too. We sat down to grab a couple of drinks and listen to some music, rather than listen to the country going on outside. The waitress we had was dumber than ever. She came up to us before we even sat down and demanded our drink order, then did it again a minute or two after we sat down. I wasn't ready the first time, and the flashlight on the menu from my phone should dictate that I wasn't ready then. The tab was 11.25 for a beer and a sprite. What the hell do you do to your beers? Douse them in gold? It was like we were back on the east coast again. But anyways, all was fine. We rocked out, sang, and people watched for awhile. Later, we asked for a glass of water and she said "well we have bottles." Well, lucky for you, my husband asked for a glass, not a a bottle. That took forever. Didn't like the abruptness, stupidity and non-willingness-to-give-water. But, the music was awesome, because of the musicians!!

Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but I just wasn't feelin' it. Howl at the Moon is not the first dueling piano karaoke-style bar I've been to (certainly not the best) and it's OK for what it is, but been there, done this, came to mind as soon as I walked in. Talented as these guys are, with their lightning fingers quick to dial up the lyrics to your favorite song on their iPhones and such, it just came off kitschy. And as OK as I am with kitschy, this night was not it. Over-priced drinks, drunken louts and slow service really just put a damper on my evening. And as funny as some of that drunkenness was, there was only so many times I can get a snarky laugh out of hearing some soused fella lean over to a girl and say, "You sure are purdy." Might wanna update your repertoire, buddy.

We were bored so we left after one beer. The entertainment was pretty weak for a Friday. The musicians were cheesy/corny. I noticed that they had to look up lyrics on their phones and gave each other puzzled looks every so often.

Really lively atmosphere. Crowd was mostly 25 plus. The bartender custized my cocktail without hesitation. Very nice night out with friends.

Personal Piano DJ in the house! This club will never be as busy as the dance clubs at Fourth Street, but that is fine with me. If you are just looking to enjoy the crowd, people watch, sit back and relax, have some personal space, and hear any of your favorite tunes, this is the place here. While the top 20 play from the surrounding clubs, the music here goes to the highest bidder. Request your song add a tip and you will see skilled musicians preform the music in a superior way then any turn table. I like Howl at the Moon, because I enjoy preforming art not just inappropriate dancing, which you could still do on stage if you feel brave. I also like this place because I can hear the party I am with talk and most of the music is nostalgic and impressive to see preformed live. NOTE: Although Yelp does not have a discount yet, you can get one free admission if you check in on Four Square, just show the door your phone. PS I Louisville, you always put the door stamp UNDER your wrist. You do not want people to see where you have been this week ;-)

Fun place, mixed crowd, decent music. We got in for free with a pass from a nearby restaurant; it was supposed to only be good before 10pm, but a little coaxing and the fact that it was a slow Friday night got us in the door for free at 11pm (being three girls probably didn't hurt either). Normally there is a $3 cover. My dirty martini was well-made. Unfortunately for me the jello shots were also tasty - remind me not to complain about boys next time I'm out with the ladies! They made sure I was well taken care of. :) The two guys playing piano were pretty funny and kept the energy up even with the bar only half-full. Servers and bartender were awesome. Great place to check out for a night!

My first time at a Dueling Piano Bar and it was so fun!!! It was my last night hanging out with my friend that I was visiting and she took me to 4th Street Live! On a Monday night, the area was not popping but we still had a great time. The musicians were so talented - they all sang, played guitar, played piano, and drums. AMAZING. Give a little tip and write your request on a slip of paper. They humored me and played Backstreet Boys & Spice Girls. Love it. Drinks were fun too - I had the pink paradise...Yums!

I've been going to Howl at the Moon locations since 2008. They are a staple in entertainment and something you have to experience if you haven't already. These musicians ROCK, and they have the best specials at 4th Street Live.

We come here every year when we are at the big truck show MATS. It is also my birthday... Great entertainment good drinks and shots, awesome staff and if your hungry Hard Rock Cafe next door will deliver you food... The place to go party if your in Louisville !!

I'm gonna say this up front: my primary reason for the low score, was the bouncer on the night of the Louisville-KU game. Yes, the bouncer. It looks like you have a fun bar. The place had plenty of people. The live music had everyone dancing. The bouncer was INCREDIBLY rude. Not just to us, but to anyone who had a question. Or even walked up. Even a simple request to speak to his boss was met with unbelievable disdain, and an absolute refusal to comply. If he hates his job (and people) so much, he can move to the mountains and be a hermit. I understand bouncers bounce drunks. We were not drunks. We were potential customers, willing to pay for a night of fun. In my 10 years of going to bars, your bouncer was the absolute RUDEST and most contemptuous jerk I've ever seen manning a door. You may have a great business model, but that dude at the door absolutely ruined our experience. Next time I am in town, I will not be going back to your establishment. Talk to that gent about his attitude. I'm giving you two stars, instead of one, because I know he doesn't reflect your whole business. At least, I hope he doesn't.

This place is SO MUCH FUN!!! Great bourbon and fun staff! We hung out there on a Friday night.

Went there last night. The manager said they were closing and I convinced him to stay open for another hour with one bartender for the 20 of us that I went with. 15 mins later the manager said they were closing. As I asked him why he changed his mind the waitress sitting on the bar looks at me and said "UNLESS YOU ARE F$CKING ONE OF THE BARTENDERS THEN YOU HAVE TO LEAVE" Not a bar I will ever go into again.

We have been to the one in Indy. This was just as fun. We went on a Friday night. It was not packed, but was a little busy. We got there early and got discounts coming early. We had a great time listening to talented musicians.

A fun night. Great music and the hardest working and friendliest waitress in Amber Badger. Great times!

First-off, the service was fast. The bartenders were on it. Well done. It was very entertaining to watch people "howl" onstage. There must have been 3 different wedding parties in this place, completely soused, reliving their high school days. The place was kind of small for the concept and so loud it just wasn't that fun. It is great for groups. Not so great for a date. Typical 4th Street shenanigans.

Why isn't there one in NY? I had been to the one in Chicago twice before I came to this one. Showed up at around 11. Didn't leave until 2ish. Had a smile on my the entire time I was there. It's part of Fourth Street Live! which is basically a mall for adults at night. Strange atmosphere. HATM is the t*ts!

Was visiting from out of town and had a really great time here. The music was good and the drinks were reasonably priced.

The best music, the best drinks, the best time!! It's always a good time at Howl and the musicians are amazing! It's hard to find live music in this area and I love live entertainment. If you've never been to a dueling piano bar you've got to check out Howl at the Moon on 4th St.!

There's a reason this place doesn't have a great rated. When I was there an issue caused the restaurants bathrooms to be unaccessible but they continued on, charging $5 cover. I told the manager that having to pay cover and then trek to go to the bathroom was a bit much, but I was perceived to be the troublemaker. You and you're issues are secondary!! The manager here is a jerk!!!

This was the first time my husband and I had been to a dueling piano bar and we had a blast! The server we had was outstanding and always kept the drinks coming! We couldn't of asked for better service. The piano players were very talented and had us laughing all night. My husband thought the lady singer/piano player lacked in talent compared to the other two players, but they all seemed to play well together. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back next time were in Louisville.

They shouted obscenities at my whole group for paying $20 to request a song. Worst place.

We went to Howl at the Moon for a bachelorette party - so I was ready for all of the Fourth Street Live cheesiness. What's that you say? You're raffling off free alcohol that is served in a bucket? Hell yes, I want in on that. Oh, you're singing Journey? I shall sing along, with all of the closed-eyed drunken fervor those power ballads deserve. In the time we were at Howl at the Moon, they seemed to swing between 2-stars and 4-stars depending on who was at the piano. Sometimes they did a fantastic job of working the crowd and other times, they would ignore the stacks of requests that were piling up and avoid even looking at the crowd. Odd. The wait staff probably missed an opportunity with our crowd, as they weren't always the quickest with the refills. (Hmm - maybe that is why the liquor buckets are so popular?) Still a fun night, but if you go, I think you need to be prepared to bring the party yourself as it may not always come from the stage.

Even though Fourth Street is not my favorite or usual scene, the concept of this place was too intriguing not to check it out. What could possibly be more fun than singing/shouting popular songs from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today (still waiting for a quick and easy verbal translation of 00's)?! Armed with intent to sing 500 miles by the Proclaimers at the top of our lungs along with a bunch of drunken tourists, we forked up the 20 bucks necessary to get our song on the list. It was a pretty penny to pay, but it was definitely the biggest hit with the crowd! For 3 minutes and 32 seconds, I pretended the dueling pianists were actually fair-skinned Scottish identical twin brothers (not too difficult, actually) and I loved Howl at the Moon. After that we also heard some Third Eye Blind and Justin Timberlake and other bleh songs. Nothing with as appealing of a chorus as our pick to get the crowds of bachelorette parties filling up most of the bar enthused to sing along. Disappointed by the ratio of attention on karoake in favor of the piano bar, we didn't stay much longer. It was my first dueling piano bar/group karaoke experience and overall it was just ok. Just ok. That two letter word barely counting as an adjective is an unacceptable descriptor to pair with the concept of group karaoke!!! The problem is that this place is too much of a dueling piano bar and a dueling piano bar is just too cheesy to really get people excited about the karaoke part of the experience. I see a great opportunity for a more divey kind of place to hire a really versatile band that does covers to forgo the emphasis on the band and place the mikes over the crowd's heads. Then you'd see some howling at the moon.

Love howl at the moon, im from indy and howl at the moon is awsome but not this one, waitress had to be told 3 times to get my gf a lime for her drink and we didnt see our watress for 20-30 min at a time, also asked for a water at which point i was done asking because i never got it so asked for the check. Drinks were not that great beer is beer i mean its in a bottle but when they have to make a drink from scratch its horrible. When the staff has to get on stage and dance to a song all together not one person looks thrilled to be up there singin and dancing with everyone. I think the music is pretty funny and good if your looking for a good time but guitars are ear piercing over the speakers, again i love howl at the moon just wont go back to this one.

Definitely a good time! There were a lot of people there, the show was entertaining and it was a good atmosphere. Drinks were a bit pricey - spent like 12 dollars Good place to go if you're visiting from out of town.

Visited HATM over the weekend for a bachelorette party. A tip for people who are planning on visiting this place: do not pay cover, do not fall for the gimmick of paying to reserve a party... they should be ashamed of themselves for duping people into reserving a VIP table for $100/piece. The organizer of the party thought that reserving the VIP tables was a good idea but luckily we talked her out of it. A few people in my group (myself) included, were able to "win" a VIP party that included free cover and rounds of drinks for $1. We got there early enough there was no line and we snagged the same tables that we were going to pay $100/piece for. The place was fun because of the people I was with but it got pretty crowded with middle-aged men about 10pm and it was an interesting crowd. OK dancing, they played a lot of songs two and three times. It was fine for 4th St Live. Go early, get your drinks and then move on.

So tonight I hit up Howl in Louisville. And maybe I"m spoiled because of the one here in Indy, but I still had a hell of a great time! It's right off of 4th street in, what seems like, the coolest part of town. it's like a little Bar corner. Bring your friends, Tell your family. This place is off the chain! It's small, but smoke free (thank God!). The staff is cool and the band is great! Keep it up guys, You definitely deserve credit!

I have been to Louisville for the past several years for business meetings and each evening have arrived at the Howl at the Moon. Good fun and good music. Have spent most evenings with business associates which adds to the experience. The Howl is mostly driven, in my opinion, by out of town folks. But it is fun and I'm sure I will be there again in the future.

Must say, I had an absolute blast here. Pro's: Amber was our waitress and was on point. In a crowded bar it's expected you will have times when you dont have any drink left. She didn't let that happen once. Bravo. Crowd is a pro. All the douchebags were going to PBR like a moth to fire which left us normal folk down at HATM. We got tables and it was worth it. They rolled out the red carpet for us and we had a great spot to chill all night. Con's: I am from Nashville, so I am picky, but the entertainment was 6.5 out of 10 at best. There were a few pro's, but also a few hacks that wouldn't be able to play a McDonalds in Nashville.
