One of my favorite places not only in Louisville, but possibly one of my favorite places ever. It quickly came to be known as the pie place in our office. There was no other pie in all of Louisville as far as we were concerned. The Caramel Apple is one of the best things I've ever tasted. And that was just the pie. The ice cream is also heavenly, with the Lemon and the Raspberry Fudge at the top of my list. I always found the staff to be extremely friendly, and with a no pressure attitude when you just could not make up your mind. Ice cream tastes were also plentiful. When I left Louisville, I took an entire pie home with me to share with friends back home.

we stopped here on my cross country road/pie trip and i cannot stop thinking about them! we had the peach pie, and grasshopper ice cream pie in the restaurant...and got a slice of chocolate silk pie to go... when i finally tasted the chocolate silk we were already in new york...it's unbelievable! velvety deliciousness! i have no idea how to describe it...if my boyfriend would have let me..i would have turned around and headed straight back here! if i ever find myself in kentucky again- i'm camping out at homemade ice cream & pie kitchen until you have to literally roll me out.

so many pies and treats to choose from! perfect store, even more perfect pie a la mode (i think we had a traditional dutch apple slice). can't wait to visit again!

After writing my review, the owner contacted me via Yelp, and clarified that they make all of their food in-house and use sugar (not corn syrup). Thanks for the clarification. I was wrong about the use of some ingredients. I do, however stand by my star rating. Not my favorite pie or ice cream.

WHY am I the first person reviewing this wonderful place? Oh my God, my mouth is salivating in Chicago right now, remembering the last piece of pie I had here, not to mention the amazing cookies, ice cream...oh man. It's enough to make me want to hop in my car and head down south. Whenever I'm visiting Louisville, this is a must stop. In fact, it's often a catalyst!

Never had a bad dessert here. Even when they're crowded (which is most every night), the service is pretty quick.

I was stopping in Louisville on my way back to Indy and they had an assortment of treats for my and my somewhat picky friends! I had the snicker doodle cookie and it was delicious. You can also tell that the ingredients are great and the pastries are amazing. My friend had a Carmel cupcake, also delicious, and we also had key lime pie. All and all we had a great experience and I would recommend this so anyone with a sweet tooth. There is a lot of variety and after the three desserts we tried all were a 10! Also the staff is very nice which is also a reason we stopped because we were indecisive and they were very patient!

For a late lunch while in Louisville, our family stopped at Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen. While we liked the nice sandwich selection, ordering was confusing, as the gal in the deli area waved us over there to take our orders, rather than the person at the cash register. Our order consisted of a BLT, two bacon chicken ranch sandwiches, a Mediterranean salad, and a ham & Swiss sandwich. For dessert, we ordered five quick-sale (aka discounted 30%) pieces of pie: pecan, chess, lemon, and chocolate chess. With five drinks and three bags of chips, our total bill was just under $50. Since we ordered at the deli, that also meant that we did not pay until after our food arrived (which with just one person working the deli line, it took some time), and I only paid then because I walked up to the register and asked if I could pay now as I was afraid I would otherwise forget. We really liked the homey-kitchen feel of the dining area, and our kids loved sitting on the swivel stools at the bar in front of the window. Once our food arrived (which again, took some time), everything was declared to be good, except for the bacon chicken ranch sandwiches, which were very good. We also felt that all of the pies were very good, with the chocolate chess and pecan being excellent. While we liked both the food and the ambiance, the confusing setup for ordering and paying, as well as the long wait for our food detracted from our experience at the restaurant. Overall we rate Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen as being Good, and would return.

Whaaaaat! Pie, cake and ice cream..uhhh duh! Everything looked amazing and the customer service was great! I had the resees pie and the carrot cake. I'm very picky with carrot cake and there's was ok, I would have preferred it a little bit chunkier. I didn't try any ice cream this time, next trip in! Also, gotta have the Dutch Apple with caramel glaze...

This is one of my favorite sweets shops I've been, definitely my favorite in the city. It's almost overwhelming how many choices you have when you walk in, but there's no way to pick a bad one. Their pies are wonderful- I love the strawberry rhubarb (the first one I tried here). The ice cream is good, too, especially along side a slice of cake or pie. The cakes all look good, although I've only had one (I enjoyed it thoroughly). Their chess pies are some of the best I've had. Their customer service is great and everyone has served me with a smile. I was shocked when I came here one weekend and people were smoking hookah, but I suppose that's something they do at this location.

Can't go wrong here, they have a huge selection of fresh, tasty pies as well as other baked goods and ice cream. The chocolate chess pie and peach pie both rock. I think they have other stuff too but have never even looked beyond the pies.

Update: I went back and tried the Chocolate Chess pie! It was absolutely amazing!! I couldn't possibly decided between it and the Chocolate Chip Chess Pie. They are both absolutely perfect! The Chocolate Chess Pie has the consistency of a gelatinous brownie batter, but the rich flavor of pure melted chocolate. I also had a scoop of Birthday Party because it had chunks of vanilla cake and lots of sprinkles! :)

This is not my favorite ice cream in town, but I love the variety of choices. They even have ice cream cake by the slice. I just recently had their chocolate cheesecake. At first I thought it was too rich, but after I got used to it, I would definitely get it again.

No such thing as a bad pie!!! The only bad piece of pie is the last slice, because after that there's no more pie! They have so much it's mind blowing! Apple pie with Carmel topping was yum yum yum yum yum yum yum! Just go here, you won't be disappointed at all!

I've frequented this Louisville staple for years. There are many delicious options including Dutch apple caramel pie, blueberry pie, and homemade ice cream. There is a wide selection so you can find a sweet that everyone will like!

Did I drive from Cincinnati to Louisville just for pie? Yes. Would I do it again? Yes. Really? It can't be that good! It is. Really. The warm caramel apple with cinnamon ice cream are what my dreams are made of (at least since I visited the first time).

How anyone could patronize this business and write a positive review, I will never understand. I gave this place a second try, ordered a basic chocolate cake. My friend ordered a cheesecake and a second style of chocolate cake. All three were inedible. I realize the name suggests "homemade" and they insist no mixes are used. I would believe that, because these cakes are not even as good as store bought mixes! As for homemade, wow, very awful pastries. Being an excellent baker myself at home, making true homemade deserts, I'm able to discern problems here. Nothing in the cake tastes real. The frosting surely has no butter, the cake tastes like artificial crap. Sara Lee frozen cakes from the grocery offer better cheesecake. Cakes sit unrefrigerated on the counter, apparently because there just isn't any butter involved here. Certainly Louisville just doesn't get it if this business expands to multiple locations if/when customers patronize it. Cloyingly sweet (not good sweet either) crap doesn't even qualify for the Southern culture excuse of accepting overly sweet stuff. What the hell is wrong with people???!!!! Can you taste this???? Maybe not.... ZERO for THREE at $15 on my visit, that's three strikes! Didn't want to bother asking for a refund and wasting my time trying to explain why these "deserts" taste not only worse than store mixes, but are truly the worst excuses for cake I have ever tasted. Sickening at best, I felt ill for hours after trying a few bites just to be judicious. ZERO STARS would be the most honest rating. AS for the tourists or natives here who rave on this place, I cannot imagine why other than for their ignorance. Nothing new there. Ice creams looked so nauseating I can't imagine trying them either after such awful cakes. YUK!!!!

These guys have it all. Great ice cream flavors and every pie ever invented! Mince? Yup. Rhubarb? Indeed. Italian Cream Cake? Of course... If you are in Louisville, check this place out!

Very good ice cream the place is a bit rough around the edges. Slow service and you can tell that it has aged a bit. There isn't much better in this city so NKY much to move up to. Now if you're in Cincinnati that makes for several superior recommendations.

Delicious pie and ice cream. I got blueberry with butter pecan ice cream. It was so good i probable ate it withing 5 minutes. Lots blueberries and not too much goo (most of fruit pies i've tried have some fruit and lots cornstarch goo). The crust was excellent sprinkled with sugar and the filling itself was not overly sweet. I would highly recommend getting dessert from here instead of a restaurant, in fact skip dinner and get two slices of pie instead.

The only thing wrong is this: a rational person might want to enjoy some of this delightful bounty after an evening out. Impossible. They close too early. Other than that: perfection. And truth in advertising. The name says all you need to know.

Whoooaa-ly cow!!! I had thought that I had already reviewed this place because of how often I have been raving about it to random people!! This shop is out-of-this-world fantastic. It is home to one of the items that makes the list of my Top 3 BEST THINGS I EVER ATE. Drum-roll please....make way for their PECAN CHOCOLATE CHIP PIE!!! Without a doubt, the absolute best slice of pie of my life. While I was eating it, I could not focus on anything besides its utter deliciousness. I had honestly never tasted anything quite like it before and was astounded by how happily my taste-buds danced around in response to each bite. Prior to my consuming this divine concoction, I was so much more so a cake person. But those days are LONG gone! I have been converted into a true pie lover because of how absolutely fantastic Homemade's Pecan Chocolate Chip Pie is. Whoever has yet to try this godly creation must immediately drive on over and order up a big ol' slice of this sweet southern love ;) But hold on there because my praise for this place surely does not end with that particular pie! Another magical piece of pie that we tried out was their Dutch Apple with caramel topping, which was ALMOST equally delicious to their Pecan masterpiece...to each his own! Another smart choice we made in the shop was to box up one of their Snickers Cupcakes! Despite its monstrous size, it was absolutely devoured by my brother, so much so that I just barely was able to try some of it before it disappeared. So THAT was a huge hit too!! And I haven't even gotten to their house-made ICE CREAM!!!! Soooo fantastic: the portions were oh so great and the ice cream itself was oh so flavorful, fresh, and ultra-creamy. They had so many wonderful options to choose from too! After much deliberation, I went with the peace, love, & chocolate flavor :) that was quite phenomenal. The fantastic-ness of this cute shop extends to their service as well because each worker was SUPER attentive and very nice and friendly. love the accents :)haha. I'm such a northerner. If I haven't already conveyed this...I highly, highly, highly recommend Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen!!!!! Oh how I wish I lived in Louisville, just so that I would have this exceptional place within reach...though that would be quite dangerous, as far as my waistline is concerned... THEY SHIP!!!!! OMG-OMG-OMG

Wow. I had a slice of pie a la mode. Probably one of the best slices of pie I have ever had with one of the best ice creams I have ever had. I kept it simple, easier to compare to past experiences, and went with Apple pie and Vanilla ice-cream. The next time I went I had blueberry pie and Creme Brûlée ice-cream. Fantastic.

Me: What kind of cake do you want for your birthday? Spawn B: Pie... Me: You want a birthday pie? Spawn B: Pie... Me: What kind of pie? Spawn B: Pie... Me: Fine. I'll choose for you. Spawn B: Peach! So, we ordered a birthday pie. It was fantastic. It weighed about 30 pounds. The main ingredient was unicorn tears. The second ingredient was fairy dust. There were peaches, too.

Nothing special about this place other than the architecture and feel of the place. I loved the vibe the seats and decorations gave off, but the food soon disappointed me with its bland flavor. Cookies tasted trite. Their cookies, pies, cakes, and ice creams only looked good but once you taste a majority of them, you can only eat so much of the dull flavors unless you wash it down with coffee. No fudge at the "made local"-feeling store deducts a point for sure.

Flew all the way from NYC just to try their pie and ice cream and let me just say the comfy cow has lost this battle the host was not only cheerful but he was friendly gave advice on what was popular and let us try a sample of what we were getting before we got it. The place is comfortable friendly people and the pie is sooooo fresh and the ice cream left me speechless AMAZING!!!! sorry but comfy cow you are no longer a place id recommend.

5 stars for the Pecan Chocolate Pie. It really is exceptional and, surprisingly not a clone of Derby Pie. I also got a scoop of Creme Brûlée ice cream that-while good-paled in comparison to the slice of pie that it shared a plate with. Next time, I would skip the ice cream and give the pie the attention it deserves.

My husband and I popped in to take the crappy taste out of our mouths from another local bakery that we won't name.. but you can find it in my reviews... And I'm damn glad we did. We ordered a buffet of cakes/pies to sample and NONE disappointed. Oreo cupcake... DELISH Banana bread.... DELISH Red Velvet Cake.... DELISHHHHHHHHHH Cheesecake...DELISH Apple Pie....DELISH Mixed Berry Pie....DELISH Upside Down Cupcake....DELISH I would drive 3 hours back to Louisville JUST for this bakery. Yum Yum Yum!

Went here on a rainy Friday night after dinner while visiting Louisville for the weekend. Had the Caramel Iced Dutch Apple Pie and it was literally the best pie I have ever eaten. I also tried the Red Velvet cake that someone else in my party had ordered and it was great as well. The only problem with this place is there is just way too many options to pick from. It is probably a good thing I do not live near this place because I would have to go here every weekend to try something new.

Whoa I just realized I've never reviewed this place! I used to eat here once a week but have since had to unfortunately cut back. As far as dessert goes you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere better in town. The Double Crust Apple w/ Vanilla Ice Cream is one of my absolute favorite things in the city. I've brought many people here and have yet to meet anyone who doesn't love it! If you're not a pie person they have plenty of other stuff, but I highly suggest giving the pie a show at least once, you wont be disappointed.

Let me add to the overwhelming positive support. I have been to this establishment a few times. I live several hours away and as such, only make it here on rare occasions - but this restaurant has become a staple for my trips to Louisville. The desserts are amazing, but more than that, they have wonderful lunch/dinner selections. The prices are beyond reasonable for the amount of good food that you get. I can't even being to describe the decadence of the desserts. This establishment tests my willpower and my waistline. I will also say - that every time I've been here, the service has been sensational. Really friendly, patient staff that (regardless of how busy) make you feel like you're receiving personal attention. Which is fantastic as well.

This place is heaven! Fresh pies hot out of the oven, cakes, homemade ice cream and sandwiches. My personal favorite are the pies. They literally have every kind you could dream of. The list is endless. Just trust me and stop here if you love pie. I just need to find a gym near here to counteract the pie.

I go here for lunch sometimes with co-workers. They have deli sandwiches and soups. The Chicken Tortilla soup is their best, however it is often unavailable. The offer a desert plate, which gets you lunch, a side, a drink, and a desert for around 8 dollars. The BLT is a favorite of mine. Their ice cream is okay. Go for a piece of pie/cake/or cheesecake instead. Also they make delicious Buckeyes.

How can I describe my shock when on a Saturday at 4:30PM we arrive to see a long, long, line out the door into the parking lot of people waiting for pie? I couldn't believe it but yes, it was the case, so we decided to come back later. When we did I was glad of the line, which was not so long, but long enough for me to try to figure out what, out of all the deliciousness that was beckoning for me to come closer and fill my belly with the amazingness that is the pie. I just couldn't choose.. chocolaty? Creamy? Fruity? I just did not know!! What to do? So I chose one of my all time favorites - Peach. And it was amazing. Next? Coconut Cream, I want you and you shall be mine. Soon my dear, very soon.

When I go out of town, I always like to find a restaurant or bakery that is not a national chain. I was in Louisville for a couple of days this week and found this gem of a bakery from Yelp. This place is worth every single good review. The shop was adorable, the workers were prompt and friendly, and the pies...unbelievable. I had a taste of the ice cream and it will make you wish you never had to buy regular ice cream ever again. Go visit this adorable place, and enjoy!!

Fantastic flavors, especially with the ice creams. The baked goods are slightly on the dry side. That, and being a little pricey rob them of 5 stars.

After an interesting dinner at a different restaurant, we wanted dessert but decided to go somewhere else. Driving around with Yelp, we found this place had great reviews and decided to give it a try. After walking in, we immediately knew it wasn't a diet friendly place (yes, I know we really did know that from the name of the place). Anywhoo, we still didn't expect the amazing, mouth watering (I mean drooling), eye popping selection of pies, cakes and ice cream. Well, after wiping puddles of drool from the floor and counter top, we finally (at least 15 minutes) decided on the pies we were going to have. We ended up with 1) pumpkin, 1 Blueberry, and 1 Caramel Apple (no, not for just one person... although I'm pretty sure I could have polished off a second piece of mine). So onto the reviews for those: 1) Pumpkin... So I am told a good, basic pumpkin pie but nothing special. I didn't try it after their reviews, plus if I had wanted to then I would have to share mine and I didn't want to. 2) Blueberry... This was actually very good, all parties agreed on this one. 3) Caramel apple... This was amazing, incredible, fantastic, etc. etc. While I didn't want to share any of it, I was forced to allow the others to have a bit for politeness. Now had this been any member of my family, they would have been stabbed with the fork had they tried to abscond with any tiny crumb of this mouthwatering treasure. But alas, since I was with business friends I had to do the PC thing. But back to the pie, all parties agreed it was amazing and definitely the winner of our dessert. We also purchased a few items to go. One, and caramel covered upside down cupcake thing which I heard was pretty good. And I got three adorable monster cookies. The cookies, for three of my monsters did survive the whole next day along with the plane ride home intact and were very much enjoyed by the kids. I of course had to try them (only for the integrity of this review of course) and I will say for basic icing laden cookies they were fairly tasty as well. The girls behind the counter were pretty friendly, and overall I would definitely recommend this place. If our trade show ever ends up back in Louisville I will definitely save some calories for a repeat!

What a fun place! I decided I like the Bardstown area of Louisville. It's very bohemian like--very free and creative. Every city seems to have such a designated area. So, what's really cool about this place is you get to taste the ice cream-- the smurf, cream brulee, and my personal favorite--vanilla. The assortment of pies is sufficient, in addition to the cakes, cupcakes (some covered in chocolate), and other desserts like cookies and cheesecake. There is also a section for salads and sandwiches if you like, and I heard it's open really late as well, which seems like a better options than Denny's, for example, if you're out late. I decided to forgo the ice cream and just have apple pie, which was SO full of apples. My friend turned up her nose upon tasting it saying it was, "too appley." Imagine that, apples in apple pie. Definitely worth a drop by if you wanna have some fun!

I am an ice cream fanatic, so I've had pretty much every ice cream shop in town. Pie Kitchen is definitely very, very good and the staff is always super friendly. They always have an assortment of fresh pies and other baked goods which is awesome if you are going with a group. Everyone can get something different & share! This location on Bardstown Road is great because they have a ton of seating inside to enjoy your treats. My husband and I hired Pie Kitchen to bring a cooler of ice cream to our wedding to serve our guests. They let us pick 8 flavors and an assortment of toppings. It was a huge hit & everyone loved that it was something different than a traditional wedding cake! The price was awesome too! What I like most about going to Pie Kitchen is supporting a local business!

I love the Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen! It's my go-to place for ice cream in Lou. My favorite flavor is the Peace, Love and Chocolate! Yum. But when my mom and I went in for a treat over the weekend, we had a bad experience. The Peace, Love and Chocolate tasted horrible. Like it had thawed out and been refrozen. The consistency was not creamy at all, but a weird flaky texture. I never send food back, but I told the girl at the register that it tasted awful and she said I could pick another flavor. When I saw a guy order the Peace, Love and Chocolate I told him mine tasted bad and he should reconsider. He asked for a sample and agreed that it was off. The girl who was scooping then commented that "it's been messed up all day and people were saying it didn't taste right". So why on Earth did they keep serving it? I'll continue to get my ice cream from the Pie Kitchen, but I think it's really bad service that they gave their customers subpar ice cream all day. Ice cream is supposed to make you smile, not pucker!

We had heard from several friends that we HAD to make this a part of our Louisville weekend. So on the way home, we stopped and were blown away by the selection of pies and generous portion. The crust is delicious! The toppings were fresh and delicious. Pie with ice cream was about $6.00, and worth every penny. What surprises me is that many of the locals I asked hadn't tried it or even knew about it. This wouldn't be a secret in my part of the world for sure. We will go back to try other pies, there must be 30 varieties there. Plus they buy their ice cream from a local dairy that uses local dairy cattle with none of the "preservatives and hormones" to increase production. I guess you can consider that the healthy part of your stop? :)

How is it that I am just now finding out how great the lies are here? I don't know if I'm mad or happy with myself for holding off on coming here. For thanksgiving I decided to order pies from here rather than baking. We decided on pumpkin pie and chocolate chip bourbon pecan pie. Both were really good and everyone loved them. I tried the ice cream when I picked up the pies and wasn't as impressed with that. Next time I want to try the coconut meringue pie it looked so lush. After reading over the menu I saw that the actually have a sandwich combo that includes a slice if pie! Now that is something that can get me excited for lunch.

If you want sweet sweet sweet then this is the place for you. I'm not a fan of their version of buttercream, but the caramel yellow cupcakes are THE best on this planet. Cheap, consistent and rot your teeth goodness! It rocks the socks off any of the trendy, over-mixed, boutique cupcakes selling for $3 a piece (won't mention the name).

They are so sweet here and they just welcome me in like I was family with the biggest smile. There was so much to selection but I was told that I shouldn't miss the dutch apple pie and the Kentucky pecan pie, so I scoop up a slice eat and then I was off to Chicago. My fiance and i warmed up the slices and wow totally blown away both were really good but the dutch apple pie was our favorite.

You know that part in Steel Magnolias where, one minute, Shelby's all "mah cuhluhs ahre bluhsh ahnd bahsfuhl" and the next she's frothing at the mouth, singing "More Human Than Human" and messing up the hair she just got did? And, M'Lynn is all, "Um, is one of you heifas gonna get my daughter some OJ or candy or crack rocks or something before she falls the f out? D@mn!!" Remember that? Well, I acted out a similar scene at Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen. I played the part of Shelby. My friend, Julie, played the part of M'Lynn. The part of OJ/candy was played by Apple Pie and Vanilla Ice Cream. The part of diabetic attack was played by hunger, fatigue & general bitchiness. I got my pie & all was well. It's really really good pie!!

When we moved back to Kentucky from PA, I was so excited to be near a Graeter's again. I didn't think I'd need any other ice cream in my life. I was wrong. The variety of this place is awesome, and while I've only tried the ice cream so far (which is fantastic), I look forward to a reason to buy a cake/pie/cupcakes from here!

The patio is open for the summer! This is a primo location for folks living towards the city. We enjoy the patio. My favorite is the chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and chocolate chips. My husband loves their homemade ice cream. We both love the homemade buckeyes. This location also recently opened a deli.

One of the first things my sister told me about Louisville after moving there was that there are two homemade ice cream stores that are extremely popular, and most people choose a favorite out of the two: Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen and Graeter's. Naturally when I went to visit I had to have a little ice cream throwdown for myself. So here's the first installment. I had a "small" chocolate chip which ended up being the size of my head. It was ahhhmazing -- sweet, chocolately, and creamy but it still had an icy texture to it. The chips were really crunchy. I polished it off no problem and was considering going for a slice of one of their impressively beautiful pies, but my food baby was already satisfied. I did try some of the Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream which tasted just like a Reese's Cup. Overall, a solid 4 stars for the ice cream.

So many pies and so little room in my stomach...This place is amazing. They have every kind of pie imaginable. I love coming here with a group so everyone can get something different and share. I can't commit to eating just one kind! I want them all! Their ice cream is pretty amazing too. Basically, it's the place to go when you need to handle your sweet tooth for the night. The staff is friendly, they have plenty of seating and you can't beat the selection. Doesn't get much better than that right?

Best. Coconut Cream Pie. EVER. In my belly. More please. Back to the real world: It is all fantastic. Every morsel I have ever tried in this place has sent me swooning. I tend towards the coconut cream pie but try to experience a little bit of everything. The choc cream pie, dutch apple, milky way ice cream, ... gotta go, jumping in the car to drive back to KY and get some!

YUMMY! DELICIOUS! Cannot say enough good things. Courteous, helpful waitstaff. Clean, quiet environment. Everything we had (7 people) was great. Especially neat that the ice cream is made from milk from local cows. Love to buy local!

This is the type of place where you find yourself incredibly torn between all of the tempting things in the case and in the freezer. Again and again, I've ordered the upside down chocolate cupcake with caramel icing. Again and again, it's been a terrific choice that never fails to delight me. I've ordered Snickers ice cream, and a layered dessert, and every bite of everything I've ever had has been terrific. The only thing I could ever knock them for is they struggle to keep the place clean with the crowds piling in one after other, but it's so darn good I'm willing to forgive pretty much anything. Easy place to take kids, too. It's so good that many evenings out we forego dessert at whatever fancy place we're enjoying and instead head here.

My family discovered this "little piece of pie heaven" while my nephew was attending college in Louisville. Every trip has consisted of a stop here and with good reason. The pies are delicious and reasonably priced ($3.50/ a slice). It reminds me of an upscale bakery minus the upscale pricing! They have many choices of confectionery heaven. I tend to stick to the bourbon chocolate pecan pie, which has a nice balance of ingredients. Louisville is a neat city, and the Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen adds to its charm.

I have three words for you: warm cherry pie. Divine! (oh and the sample taste I had of Birthday Cake ice cream is totally surreal - it really tastes like a slice of yellow birthday cake with frosting and vanilla ice cream. Too sweet for me but intriguing nonetheless!)

Very friendly. Lots of amazing pies!!! I thought House of Pies in Houston TX was amazing (and it IS) but I'd say HOP is old school while Homemade I&P are the kick butt upstart that's my new #1 go to pie place nationwide!

On the seventh day, God created pie. She looked upon her creation and declared it delicious. Only one question remains: How can they call it homemade if nobody lives there?

Great Googaly Moogaly! This place is pie nirvana. I have to thank my friend Bill for taking me here. Or curse him. Because nothing else has come close to this place since I visited two years ago. They have a gazillion different pies. So many that you'll stand there drooling in anticipation, getting foggy and confused as you sort through all the different varieties. I ended up getting the lemon chess pie if memory serves me correctly. Quite frankly, it was the best lemon chess pie I've ever had, even surpassing this amazing restaurant in Georgetown. Man, now I want to got back to Louisville for some pie, good music hunting and to visit my friend.

I really wasn't too thrilled with either their ice cream or pie, neither was very good. You can tell they do not use very high end ingredients.

We live around the corner from this place, so I've tried just about everything. The iced cookies are a family favorite, and when I was pregnant with my son I was addicted to their cupcakes. If they have strawberry-rhubarb pie, you should get it. The ice cream is very good, but is not the best in town anymore. We like it better than Graeter's, but the Comfy Cow has my vote for best ice cream.

I don't get a chance to eat sweets too often, simply because I know that sweets are like kryptonite. I stumbled on this place because the Boba shop next door was closed for the day and what an accidental find. My favorite was the pecan pie covered in caramel, which would give any sweet tooth the fix it needed. The from the first bite to the last, it was filled with crunchy pecan goodness. You know this place makes its crust from scratch and there's love in the kitchen when they bake their goods. Next time I would recommend people try their home made ice cream as well, just maybe not a la mode simply because they might go into some sort of sugar shock. Man this place is just that good....

Yep, everyone else is right. Great selection of pies, cakes, ice cream & cookies. I tried the pecan pie and the coconut almond fudge ice cream. Melt in your mouth quality & not too sweet. Pretty cheap, too - highly recommend.

I have lived a lot closer to Cincinnati-based Graeter's location at Douglass Loop for the past 2.5 years so have been there more often, however, I do prefer the local Homemade ice cream by a slight margin. Now that I am about to move out of that neighborhood I can say with confidence that if in a car I'll choose Homemade 9 out of 10 times. If you haven't tried the ice cream at this place give it a go! The pies are incredible, too. UPDATE: The only real negative about Homemade is its popularity--I tried to get an ice cream here on June 8th and the line had 40 people in it.

Stopped in for some sweets with Andy P. on our road trip from Dallas to Connecticut. One of the best scoops of ice cream I've ever had. Period. And the pie selection was amazing. I hope Louisville knows what they have here. An American treasure. Ambiance: 25/25 stars Food: 25/25 stars Service: 22/25 stars Bathroom: 18/25 stars Probability of going back: 100% (we will meet again!)

The ice cream, cakes, and pies taste and look homemade (like my grandmother made it), and the atmosphere is very cheery and wholesome. That's very important to me, because I hate being stared at by pretensious counter help while trying to enjoy my lemon meringue pie. (which is amazing, by the way)

HOLY COW! After a filling lunch at Jack Fry's, my co-workers and I decided we HAD to find room for some pie before heading to airport. Since it's october and I am crazy about ANYTHING pumpkin, I knew I would be having the pumpkin pie. We went in and after looking around for a while I saw...what else but.... PUMPKIN ICE CREAM! Soooo, 5 min later i was sitting down with a piece of pumpkin pie and a large scoop of pumpkin ice cream. Both were delicious and perfectly flavored. The rest of my party had the famous apple caramel pie which we discovered was actually about 5 lbs for the entire pie. extraordinary. They paired it with cinnamon and maple ice cream and raved about all of them. When we were about to leave I asked one of the servers for directions to the airport. He drew me a very accurate, detailed map of the back way to the airport that got us there easily and quickly. Everyone was so nice and they sure can make pies and ice cream! you must stop by when you're around Louisville!

I loved this place. I loved it. Truly exceptional. Okay, here's the deal: You walk in and they have about 15-20 homemade pies and about the same amount of flavors of homemade ice cream. Both are exceptional. You typically get one of each. Their pies were all the standards you'd expect (cherry, apple, peach, etc.), but with some more exotic or locally favored ones (uber sweet Chess and Derby pies, among others) and they all looked amazing. unfortunately I could only have one and had a very good Chocolate Chess pie (basically like brownie batter dipped in sugar). The available ice cream was plentiful too and I had an absolutely excellent creme brulee ice cream. Really, really good. I could not recommend this place more if my mom owned it. Top notch!

Oh. My. Gosh. TheChocolate Silk Pie makes my knees go weak. ...and the buckeyes are fab. ...and the spumoni ice cream is fantastic. ...and the apple pie with caramel topping....don't even get me started!

I'm kinda crossed rating this place. The pies are better than the ice cream. I still like Amy's Ice Cream in Austin, but this is KY. I just felt the ice cream here tasted too much like a tub of Blue Bell. Still, if I'm in KY again & have a hankering for pie, this is the place.

I wish we had one of these places in St. Louis! I usually try to find time on my trips to Louisville to stop at the Pie kitchen. The pie and ice cream are amazing and the shop is cute. It's a little expensive, but it is sort of a destination dessert place, so it's not really a deal breaker.

Absolutely the best dessert place in town. It's been doing the same thing for over 20 years, and doing it well. Ice cream, cakes, pies! What's not to love? They're got the best meringue pies ever, and that's what I usually go for here, but everything is delicious. This place isn't fussy or overpriced like some other dessert places. It's not trying hard to impress you, but you'll come back because it's delicious and the desserts are quality.

Mmmmn, heat my pie up on styrofoam plates in the microwave. Yummm, put some more store bought whipped cream on there. Looks and feels like an old Denny's. Pie is decent.

Love Love LOVE this place. They have everything you could want. The upside down cup cakes are delish, the seasonal ice cream is a must and the chess pie is my favorite. The best part is I can walk to their original location... which is both good and bad.

What a cool find. It's a definite destination for desserts on the weekends. A little rough to sit outside in the evening with kids because it's in the bar district, but still enough of a draw to brave the line. Nice selection of pies, cakes and ice creams. I had the root beer float with Mocha chip (dee-lish) and my sweetie had the butterscotch pie and creme brulee ice cream. All was very good, next time will have to go in and score a slice of their Not-Derby-Pie.

Just about any type of pie your heart may desire. Lot of cakes too. I had the mixed berry, warm, with vanilla ice cream. A hard combo to beat. The pie was full of sweet berries and the crust was not too shabby. I would love to go back and sample some of the other varieties. Well worth the stop if you are in Louisville.
