Amazing. Went back, 2 days in a row, if I stayed 3 days; I'd do 3 days in a row. I love the pecan, miss you already....... Dutch apple excellent! but Pecan the BEST. Decent and generous ice cream, great ice creams! Immediately loved this place, will return next trip! I wish I stayed in LOUISVILLE; ST LOUIS sucks sooooo bad, I hate it. I WISH I WAS HAVING ICE CREAM AND PIE at HOMEMADE in Louisville.....................

Great ice cream. Great selection. I would give this place more stars. I have a big knock. Never enough people working there. Go in on a hot summer day. Say there's 8-10 customers. You are lucky if there's 2 employees. A lot of shakes take time to make. I've waited in line for 20 minutes while there's only 4 customers. Why? Just one employee working. I feel bad because the customer service is friendly. Just not enough of it.

Louisville staple! We try to visit every time we are in town. Yesterday I got the dutch apple with caramel- so delicious and rich! I've also had the chocolate chess pie, strawberry rhubarb, mixed berry, and chocolate meringue. You can't go wrong with any of the pies!

Expensive for what it is. Which I guess is to be expected. Dessert restaurants have to charge a lot for a small thing to make money. I get it. But it's good. And what's neat - they have a ping pong table upstairs. That really excited my wife. The ice cream is like good ice cream that you can get at any other good ice cream place. Just didn't overwhelm me. Like that ping pong table, though.

Rude staff and the pastries did not live up to the hype at all. Cupcakes were dry, though the icing was yummy.

Service was friendly and accommodating when sampling ice creams and giving pie suggestions. Great selection of pies and assortments of ice cream churned in-house. The chocolate pecan pie & red raspberry fudge ice cream were delish! (:

Ice Cream and Pie is pretty good but this is the worst location I've ever been to. Staff was so apathetic that it bored on straight up rude. They were clearly ready to close up for the night. Pie was "ok" but the chocolate almond coconut was amazing despite being a little freezer burnt.

Great pie and beer. Staff is always friendly and the baker always helps out on special orders.

This review is for the ice cream and is from an August 2013 experience. I must start by saying, don't take this review into account when considering this establishment. My recommendation is go here and enjoy to your heart's delight. Everyone was delightful when I went and the choices were great. My ice cream was chalky is all and it happens.

Grape sherbet!!!!! I know everyone else come here for their ice cream and pies, but I must tell you about their grape sherbet! It is not the prettiest of sherbets: purple/grayish. But don't let that deter you. If you like grape soda, this is for you. It tastes exactly like a great frozen grape soda: refreshing, tangy and not overly sweet. It made a great snack after a long, hot evening of trolley hop. Everyone else in my party (ice cream eaters) all liked my choice even more than theirs. Oh, yes. I do like the rest of the store, too. Although it was crowded on this Friday night, it was not overwhelmingly so. Service was efficient and friendly. Those pies look like they would be perfect for anyone who does not like to bake but still knows how to appreciate a good homemade dessert.

I used to love this place. My most recent experience has made me hesitant to ever go back. Of our 3 selections, not one was good. The upside down cupcake was stale, and the caramel icing tasted like it was just caramel colored sugar. The two slices of pie had underdone crust and the meringue was very runny.

Not serving alcohol on a Friday night because you can't employee anyone over 21? A waste of my time. Next time I will go to comfy cow. I give you 3 stars because I like your dessert.

The blackboards at this Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen location list the following: Ice Cream Cakes Pies Cupcakes Cookies Cheesecake Ice Cream Pies and... Wine Frozen Drinks Beer! (I may never leave.) Perfect spot for an after dinner hangout where some people wanted booze, some wanted coffee, and some wanted dessert. I was all about the dessert of course so I had the Pecan Chocolate Chip Pie (à la mode). The fresh churned ice cream was great and though I liked the pie, it was so sweet it nearly gave me a toothache. Everyone else was happy with their assortment of Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Strawberry Cake, Crème Brûlée Ice Cream, coffee, and red wine. That plus "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" playing in the background got us in a holiday mood. (Merry Christmas Yelpers!)

The ambiance is really cute!!! they have a full bar of pastries and cupcakes and brownies...and ice cream.. OMG! it's like walking in to an old homemade goodness of sweets... I got soo excited i decided to get two items after a full dinner... I got a Pecan Pie and a Scoop of Salted Caramel Ice Cream... The Pecan Pie: message me here if you want my Pecan Pie recipe... their pecan is just literally loaded with corn syrup and it just doesn't hit the spot. It's not the melt in your mouth kind of pie you'd want to finish all by yourself... The Salted Caramel Ice cream is NOT EDIBLE. I am sorry.. but this girl has been eating salted caramel anything even before it got the hype..and I HAVE NEVER had an ice cream that's pure SALTY. A hint of Sea Salt on it is fine..it doesn't need scoops of sea salt. My boyfriend got the vanilla upside down cupcake... TOO DARN SWEET. It almost is comparable to those store bought ones..... I was suuuper disappointed i got cranky after.

This is my favorite place to go for ice cream in Louisville. Their sugar cookies (decorated) are awesome and addictive. This is a fun place to go with friends and kid friendly. My favorite time is to go when they have discount scoops. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are in a great location.

I'm a sucker for pie and it doesn't get any better than the pie kitchen! Chocolate meringue, their version of derby pie, chess... Mmmm If I worked there I'd weigh 300 lbs. I love the Frankfort Ave. location since I can walk there and they have a cool indoor area for winter indulgences. I hear they also have food but I just can't come here for food... Pie only! :)

This place is so special to me! My husband and I went on our first date here, and when I needed someone to make special gender-reveal cupcakes for a friend, this was the place that not only said they could do it, they were enthusiastic about being a part of the effort. I love everything they make and I can't say enough about the people who work here.

This has to the be the best pie and ice cream place around. I work right next to this place and walk over frequently to have a little treat for myself. If you're looking for good pies for a birthday or a party I'd come here they have a lot of choices to choose from.

I Was there for Troll Hop Night last Friday. Corn Hole was being played outside. Strangers were talking to each other and having a good time. It really promoted a feeling of community. And the service was OUTSTANDING. Even though the place was packed people were being waited on QUICKLY and EFFICIENTLY!!! Can't wait to go back!

It's a good as every HICPK in the Ville. In a brand spankin' new building. They have a nice patio area. Not sure why they decided to open a location directly across the street from the Comfy Cow.... But really, I don't think you can go wrong at Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen.

Excellent pies! We tried a number of their pies and they were all very delicious - Chess, Lemon Chess, Chocolate Chess, Pecan Chocolate Chip, Dutch Apple...I'm 10 pounds heavier but it was worth it! The service was great too! I've been to the Lexington Avenue location also but at that location, the guy that served us was not very pleasant, looked so serious like he was working at a funeral home, didn't talk or make any suggestions and was almost patronizing. That ruined our experience and made me wonder if I should ever go back. Thankfully, at this location, the guy's service redeemed the chain.

One of my favorite places in Louisville! The ambiance is fantastic, the ice cream is the best I've ever tasted, and the cakes, pies, and coffee are awesome as well. This truly is as good as it gets!

I have visited several Pie Kitchen locations and this is by far the best! Clean, product always looks wonderful, and friendly staff! I do wish there was a customer loyalty program for those of us 'regulars'!

"You have to go to the Pie Kitchen!" our friend exclaimed before we departed on our roadtrip to Louisville. Pie Kitchen? A entire shop of pies? Yes, and it was delightful. Pies, cupcakes, and ice cream. All homemade. They also have a liquor license and can mix up your favorite treat with some alcohol. Talk about a "bar" for people who don't like bars! My friends and I pressed our noses against the warm glow of the pie counter. A friendly, very patient woman took each of our orders, which consisted of filling up box after box of random cupcakes and/or pie. My order was the most gluttonous of all: - Slice of dutch apple pie with caramel topping - Slice of chocolate chess pie - Slice of dutch apple pie with a layer of sugar crust on top - a snickerdoodle cupcake - a buttercream cupcake with chocolate icing and sprinkles - an Oreo cupcake - a buttercream cupcake with caramel topping - a chocolate cupcake with caramel topping - a creme brulee milkshake While we were taking our desserts to go, some of us couldn't wait to enjoy the treats and started indulging on the stoop of the store. That's how amazingly delicious these baked goods are! In addition to the eccentric food I ordered, Pie Kitchen has plenty of traditional fruit pies, complete with the cross-hatched crust just like Grandma used to make. With everything costing around $2.00 - $4.00 each, it made for an affordable treat to bring back to our friends in Cincinnati.

Every time I have friends or family tell me they are coming up to Louisville to see me, I rejoice that I will have another excuse to go to Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen. Although, I must admit, I always get confused and say "Homemade Pie and Ice Cream." Love the upside down cupcakes and chocolate chess pie

Why do we not have one of these in Cincinnati? This bakery is almost indescribably amazing. They have freaking Snickerdoodle Cupcakes! AND ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We stopped here and loaded up for the trip home. I don't think anyone walked out without a box full of goodies. Oh, they also have CAKE AND PIE. I'm not even sure I'm worthy of such awesomeness but I'll eat everything they have anyway.

Love. What can I say that others haven't? My favorite is a slice of yellow cake with caramel frosting. Two layers, always moist and not crazy sweet. This location also makes pizza and has a deli counter. And beer. And wine. On trolley hop Friday they had a free inflatable bouncer in the parking lot! Fun for the whole family! The ground floor has two levels of seating. Upstairs has couches, a TV, and a (kinda crappy) ping pong table. They have a patio (dogs are welcome, with a bowl of housemade dog biscuits by the door) with a two-side fireplace. If they have cake or cookies that are past their prime, they sell them at half price. They also have 99 cent cone day fairly regularly, they most recent being for the Frankfort Ave. Easter parade. I am cheap. These things make me happy. They have live music sometimes. Overall, very friendly, good atmosphere, lots of variety, and quality product. Go. Just go.
