Let's go ahead and get this out there... the building does not look great. In fact, you're almost surprised that the food is as good as it is when you see the building. Get past that, though, and you will find the best Chinese food in the city (in my humble, yet very correct, opinion). Scrolling through my contact list in my phone, Great Wok is the only restaurant you will find that has its own entry, and it has been my go-to takeout spot since I moved to Louisville as a college student years ago. I don't often venture far from my favorite dish, chicken lo mien, but when I have, I've still been very, very happy with my order. If it were up to me, every single time I had Chinese food in Louisville, it would be from Great Wok. This is a take-out place for most patrons. Though they have seating, probably 10 tables or so, I have only actually eaten in-house one time, and when I did, it was just me. When you go to pick up your order, it's extremely rare to see anyone eating in the restaurant. Don't let that fool you about the food, though. It's good - plain and simple. Next time you're in the mood for some Chinese, try it out. Don't be a skeptic when you see the building's interior (and exterior for that matter); you will not be disappointed. I'm a long-time, very loyal Great Wok fan, and there's never a time that getting takeout from there is not a good idea.

Worse Chinese food I've ever had... Ever! First off, fried rice wasn't fried, barely had any beef in the beef and broccoli. And the egg rolls were basically fried cabbage rolls. I have photos. I wish I could give this place a negative 3 but yelp doesn't allow that... Maybe the first sign that I shouldn't have ordered there is when I asked the lady on the phone did they have a website so I see the menu. She replied "We have the normal Asian stuff"... Also, she didn't have an accent. Don't mean to sound prejudice but usually the people with the heavy accent have the good stuff... I wouldn't eat here again even if I fell on hard times and someone offered me a meal from there as I was standing on a corner pan handling... Truth!

Not impressed. Seems like the normal Chinese fast food dished out just about every where else in the city. I saw a Chinese menu taped to the wall, but no English translations. I suspect that if they made some attempt to offer authentic Chinese food it would be far better than whatever can they pour this stuff from. Yeah, I get it. Lot's of people in town are the healthiest eaters and like their food sweet, fried, and heavily breaded. But not me.

Best ever Crab Rangoon, and we have been to several different places. By far the best all around Chinese cuisine!

So bland bland bland BLAND!! I don't know why I didn't listen to the negative reviews... I was so excited to start eating some Chinese for dinner and I'm nothing but disappointed in my choice. I ordered lemon chicken and the sauce literally tastes like nothing, just barley a hint of lemon. I'm extremely upset that I spent this much money on food with zero taste. Ugh!!

So, it was food, and it was hot.... And honestly cheap. Would I ever go there again? Not a chance. It had to be the most tasteless food, let alone Chinese food( I've ever had. Take away the dingy building and location, the kids waiting on you (they were cute). It gets 2 stars because it was hot, cheap and I didn't get sick. Pass.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. Taste is authentic, food is healthy and people are friendly. Fried rice is a must. Not a high end place but perfect food for lunch or dinner.

This place is not covering any new territory on Americanized Chinese food, but you can't beat the value. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the egg rolls, as they were tasty and not greasy like you find most places.

This is better Chinese takeaway than I had any right to expect in this location at this time.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
