Wow this ain't your daddy's Dundee tavern. We started with a few drinks at the bar where the beer menu is still growing but offered more opportunities than the previous owners. Our party decided to try an assortment of different entrees so as to share and sample different fare. The chicken and waffles was breaded with cornbread on top of fantastic collard green. The flavors melted together in a fantastic symphony in my mouth. It was the undisputed champion of our six meals. Everyone else agreed the fig turkey sandwich was also a huge hit. For dessert we had the black magic cake, peanut butter pie, and bourbon bread pudding. Definitely worth a trip in to see what's new at the Dundee.

Great atmosphere & friendly service. Everything looked good so I decided on black bean burger, truffle fries, & goat cheese lollipops. Bourbon bread pudding was perfect. (Braised short rib was real good as my wife enjoyed very much)

Dundee gastropub truly is as good as it gets! You may need a little assistance from the friendly staff to understand some of the dishes, but totally worth it! Three of us had appetizers, sandwiiches and a meal. The truffle fries are sinfully delicious! We loved everything....think you will also!

Excellent chicken sandwich! I believe it's called Chicken Nash Sandwich and it's a breaded fried chicken breast tossed in their hot sauce. I truly enjoyed it. The service was very good. Tracy was our server and she was very attentive. The setting is that of a pub which is fitting lol Overall a great dining experience. I'd recommend giving them a try

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Let me start from the top. Two friends and myself went to this place one weeknight after work. The place was fairly crowded, but not packed. We went here because a friend saw it on one of the top 10 up and coming bars around Louisville list or something, which we all found hard to believe not long after being there. I'm guessing there are only 10 bars. I don't know why they claim themselves as a gastropub. We had known this place as Dundee Tavern, but we had never been. A gastropub usually has a high end beer and food selection. This didn't hit that mark. Its menu and look very much is reminiscent of a tavern or saloon. They should run with that and not try to be something they're not, which is a 1980s tavern or saloon, take your pick. We weren't picky though. We just wanted a couple casual drinks and maybe a bite to eat. Nobody was looking to be impressed this night. After being seated we waited for a half hour to get someone's attention for waters and drinks. We couldn't waive anyone down despite being in an easy location between the dining room and bar, so we kindly asked the very sweet lady who seated us if we could be helped. She obliged and sent over a younger girl to be our server. I think she was our server. To this day I still don't know. This girl got two of us waters and the other a beer and we told her we needed a minute or two to order food. Another half hour later without our orders taken or other drink orders taken we got tired of waiting and went up to the server station to order our food there. I don't think I've ever done that before, but whatever. Despite us being very respectful and kind the waitress made it obvious with her body language, rolling of the eyes and anxiously tapping her pen that we were holding her up and she didn't feel like serving us. Regardless we ordered at the window and went back to our seats. Two more of our friends came by for a drink. Our food came a bit later and the server didn't acknowledge my friends who were on the edge of the booth closest to her and didn't take their orders. The food was anything but impressive. It was very bland and my friend said the same about her dish. I got a very forgettable chicken sandwich. I forget what it had on it because this was a couple weeks ago, but the menu made it sound amazing. It sounded like just the sort of thing I was looking for. Maybe something to compensate for the poor service. Well it had no taste and sucked. I never did get the beer I wanted. My friends who came late eventually left after a half hour because nobody had taken their orders. We had been sitting there with empty glasses for a half hour and my two friends were thinking about dining and dashing since they showed us no respect. I said heck no because I've worked in the service industry. I have a high tolerance for bad service because I've been there, but we were not acknowledged and were shown disrespect. There's no telling if this staff even knew we were there. They were about to be very aware we were still in the building. I could tell there was one good employee in this joint, the sweet old lady who sat us and was helping at many tables in the dining room. I kindly walked up to her and asked for the manager. She took me to the owner. I frankly and calmly told the owner that this was one of the worst service experiences of my life and explained to her why. The younger girl who was supposed to be our server was all of 2-3 feet away from me and listening intently with her mouth wide open. The owner thought we had already paid and said she'd comp us if we came to her before paying our tab. I told her that we hadn't paid and never got a check so they took care of us. We all walked out of that place with the intention of never going back. I take no pleasure in bashing a restaurant on Yelp, but this one deserves it. Enter at your own risk when you go to Dundee Gastropub or Dundee Tavern or whatever it is called. There are signs outside that say both.

I liked the old Dundee tavern for its vibe but the food wasn't great. Now they have the same atmosphere but a wildly improved menu from the new owners (who also wisely kept the best thing on the old menu, the Dundee dip). Had the chicken and waffles and it was excellent. Great place to watch a game, decent enough beer list and a cool spot to hang out.

We are big fans. Love having this neighborhood gem walking distance to our home. Foodie worthy. Goat cheese lollipops, truffle fries, and a menu with something for everyone. Same great Dundee Tavern vibe but with an upgrade to the menu. Loved the service too.

Wow!! The food was amazing. The owner came out and checked on our party. The chef then came out to check on our food. Overall this experience was fantastic. Food eaten at our table: Chicken & Waffles 5/5 Short Rib Grilled Cheese 5/5 Turkey and Fig Sandwich 4/5 Chocolate Cake 5/5 Slam dunk for the new owners. Nicely done.

This restaurant was recently bought by the same people behind Bristol Grill. Unfortunately, I've suffered extreme stomach issues from eating at both. They revamped the menu and all but gutted it completely. This menu is a half hearted attempt at a trendy Gastropub using obviously cheap generic prepackaged frozen ingredients. We much preferred the food and service of the old owners. The server left all of the empty dishes on the table throughout all of dinner to the point of making it hard to maneuver our drinks. Something we NEVER experienced at the old establishment. I ordered the chicken wings and tasted something a little different. Upon letting my wife have a bite of one she said it tasted like the chicken was old and on the brink of spoiling. It was a subtle flavor, but definitely something we noticed. Well, what it did to my stomach later that night was not subtle and had me on the verge of going to the ER. The wife had Chicken and waffles and the chicken tasted like a Banquet frozen breaded chicken breast straight out of the box. My daughter had the burger and it was marginal at best. 'Very basic with not much flavor', her words not mine. Though i did try it and agree. Also, had the Pimento Cheese fritter thing and Truffle fries for appetizers. The pimento cheese was a dry and gritty cornbread fritter devoid of flavor to the point we had to salt it just to make it halfway edible. The Truffle fries appeared and tasted to be Ore-Ida freezer fries with truffle oil and a handful of shredded cheese poured on it. Sadly, it was the highlight of the meal. Needless to say, we won't be back. It is very sad to lose such a staple in our dining community. We would frequent the old Dundee Tavern at least twice a month and it was our 'Goto' place for carryout wings. Have no idea how this team thinks they can compete with the several extraordinary Gastropubs in the area that serve freshly prepared fare. I want my old Dundee back.

Excellent service, seating and food. I had the chicken and waffles but it was unlike other chicken and waffles I have had, that's not a negative just didn't still great. The other food at the table all looked great and treated great. Drink pricing is clear and reasonable. Had my 2 year old with is he was more than welcome here. I will come back for more.

What a great experience! This is a place you can take your date, your Mom or your kids! Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. We had the chicken and waffles and it was a great combo of sweet and savory! We can't wait to come back!

Such a nice departure from the former Dundee establishment! Chef Chris Ross and front manager, Susan Conway, are an unbeatable team. Their menu is creative and VERY reasonably priced. Don't miss out on their signature version of Chicken and Waffles - unbelievably delicious! Also the peanut butter cream pie with pretzel chocolate crust is arguably the best $4 dessert in town! Simply cannot go wrong here and so happy to have Susan and Chris as our new neighbors!

Quick, friendly service. We all ordered Sandwiches. They were all delicious, but out of the three we really enjoyed the Bourbon Chicken Panini!we will definitely be back

Dundee Tavern was a great local watering hole that was family-friendly, had really good pub food with a southern accent and was a perfect place to watch a game. Now that Bristol has bought it, the menu has been gutted and replaced with bland, unsuccessfully ambitious dishes, and half the staff is gone. Even those hot wings are sad, drab hunks of chicken. What a loss!

Great food at a great price! The black bean burger was phenomenal and my boyfriend really enjoyed his short rib grilled cheese. The service was great as well! Will definitely be back again very soon.

The hubs and I decided to try the new menu today. Mind you the heat index is 105 degrees outside, so we were thinking someplace cool and something lite to eat. We get there, first of all , I don't know if their AC was not working, but the building was at least 80 degrees. They had put up a few fans which did nothing. We contemplated leaving, but we're too beat down by the heat. So my husband and I ordered the pimento cheese melt as an appetizer. The idea was unique, but overall fell flat. The beer bread was tasty, but since the pimento cheese is melted over it, the whole dish was really greasy and rather nasty. Had the cheese been broiled seperately and served with toasted beer bread, I think they would have had better results. Both my husband and I were looking for a lighter, cooler option due to the heat so we both ordered salads. The hubs ordered the Southern Pecan Chicken Salad. Overall, OK, but you do not serve a salad with whole grapes or the customer spends tge entire time chasing grapes around the plate. Take the time to cut your grapes in 1/2 please. He intentionally had the candied pecans put on the side, as he is trying to watch sugar levels. smart choice as they were soggy and overly sweet. Their candying process could use a lot less sugar with an additional pinch of cayenne and ground mustard to add a wow of flavor. They also need to cook them a little longer to regain the crunch, soggy nuts are gross. The chicken strips on the salad tasted like they came from Mc'Donald's, and the Honey Mayo dressing that the salad was served with was just unsalvagable. It tasted like he poured syrup over his greens. Overall the salad was wilted and room temperature instead of crisp and cold like it should be, overly sweet and not fork friendly. My salad was better, but not by much. I ordered the 7 Layer Kentucky Salad. Once again, a good concept, but poorly executed. Again my salad was soggy and lukewarm instead of crisp and cold (do none of your chilling apperatuses work). The copious amounts of bacon would have been appreciated if it had been crispy and fully cooked. I ended up picking most of it off due to it being undercooked. The green onion dressing was delicious and went well with the rest of the salad fixings. We liked Dundee prior to the new change to "gastropub," and they have some good ideas, but Don't have the details fixed. We will try again with hopes of a better experience next time. Ps bring back the fried pepper jack cheese balls. They are definitely missed!

We had a great server who handled our party of 7 with ease. Dundee Dip was served warm and the server brought extra chips. The blackened chicken pasta was spicy ,not overly hot. Included was a small salad that was lackluster at best. A sweet maple dressing was the only saving grace. Sandwiches were good but small. Mac and cheese was a good sized bowl. Food seems an improvement since last we were there years ago. New owners still developing the menu it seems.

No lie, I came for the desserts. Enjoyed the pork 'n greens very much. Good for everyone. My husband liked their variety of beers and tried a new one. Our waiter was very laid back, knew his beers, and was really nice. My four-year-old commented on the delicious food on the drive home, they're always honest. We'll be back, especially to watch a game with friends. Oh, and the peanut butter pie was quite good. Same room for dessert!

The only trouble I had at Dundee Gastropub was choosing what to order. The whole menu had my mouth watering! For starters, we settled on the goat cheese lollipops and pimento melts. The goat cheese plate had a fantastic balsamic glaze drizzle that paired perfectly with the local cheese, and the pimento melts were winners for sure. I ordered the turkey and fig sandwich and upgraded regular fries to truffle fries. The sandwich rocked a very pleasant balance between sweet and savory, grilled with turkey, cheese and a tasty fig jam. Truffle fries were topped with asiago cheese and came with herb truffle mayonnaise. Fries and mayo-- what?! Sounds questionable, I know, but this mayo was the bomb.com . We ended up dipping nearly everything on the table in it. I probably consumed about three days worth of calories at dinner tonight, but I'm here to tell you that it was completely worth it. This place has a great atmosphere for groups, kids, young adults, old adults and all the rest. Service was great and the food was even better. I can't tell ya much about the drink selection, but I will say that the dinner menu can accommodate the pickiest eater to the most avid foodie. I definitely recommend it!

There is a Louisville food critic, who shall go unnamed, that likes to sometimes write overly dramatic, yet highly entertaining reviews of local restaurants and had recently reviewed this place. Part of the review was pointing out how "overly complicated" certain dishes were. And good lord, I cant believe I am saying this but for the first time I have to agree. (Before I explain though let me say service, drinks and atmosphere were top notch for the whole time I was there) I had the smoked sausage quesadilla, which is grilled smoked sausage, bourbon bbq sauce, ranch dressing, and a mix of jack and cheddar cheeses. These were really tasty and well presented, I would recommend. Then I had the BELT which was bacon, fried eggs, lettuce, tomato, swiss cheese and garlic mayonnaise on sourdough bread. I think the bread is buttered and grilled because it is crispy, but oily, like a grilled cheese would be. I would leave off the swiss next time and get the mayo on the side because these things make the sandwich ridiculously messy, and there is too much flavor, too much of the ingredients, it doesn't compliment the bacon and eggs the way it should. My dining companion had (but I did not try) the chicken and waffles, and the main complaint was that the waffle was soggy from sitting in the juices from the collards. I think the kitchen just needs to calm down a bit and streamline, because they have a good thing going here they just need to adjust a few things on the menu and then they will be great!

We came here for drinks and appetizers after The Oaks race and sat in the bar area. It was loud and hard to hear the people at our table. Wonderful selection of beers. We had the pork rinds and beer cheese and it was delicious. Attentive bartender even though we weren't sitting at the bar. Great prices.

Had a great meal. New menu is still improving. Decided to try this place after reading Leo review this week. Decor is real dated, my chair had loose joints and shifted everytime I moved. Place was very lively, possibly after review came out. Service was good. I had the short rib grilled cheese. Very nice sandwich, I would have liked to see house made frites, I believe they were frozen. Prices are good. Will be returning

Here on a Saturday night right at dinner time and the place seemed pretty empty compared to what I expected. Fine by me because that typically means better service. Sign said to seat yourself so we did and someone brought us a couple of waters almost immediately. Our waitress came over to check in right away, so we were off to a good start as far as service goes. I didn't have a huge appetite so I order some boneless wings. I wish I would have been hungrier because the rest of the menu seemed wonderful. Their classic buffalo sauce had a hint of sweetness to it- not something I cared much for. I tried a bite of my friend's dundee dip which I really liked, so I'd probably get some of that if I'm back. After we got our food it seemed that the attentive service kind of died down. I needed a refill and couldn't find our waitress. Seemed odd to me since the place was almost empty. With this restaurant being close to a few places I frequent (Great Flood, Graeter's, Heine Bros), I suspect I'll be back. I hope to try their burgers and give an updated review with more positive feedback. For now, though: just an average bar & grill to me.

Drinks: they have a good draft beer list featuring local breweries. Unfortunately my beer had junk floating in it, so I had to exchange it. Appetizers: we got the truffle fries, and they were good! They had a good amount of truffle oil and seasoning with cheese on top and the aoli was good too. Entrees: we got the chicken and waffles and the shrimp and grits. On a positive note, they both had beautiful presentation and looked delicious, but neither tasted very good. The chicken and waffles was bipolar. The waffle was just cornbread shaped like a waffle and pure mush from soaking up the juices of the dish. the chicken was normal fried chicken, but marred by the syrup. The syrup was honey Tabasco, which was not very good, and the whole thing was topped off by watermelon and feta, which is good by itself, but a weird garnish for this entree. The collard greens were really the only normal tasting component. The shrimp and grits were just alright. I appreciated that the tails were off the shrimp, and the grits and spinach and ham were good. However, I did not like whatever the underlying tomato broth was. I think the plate would have been better without. Service: our waitress was mediocre. She was nice and didn't charge me for switching beers after the first had stuff floating in it. However, she also disappeared for several long periods that coincided with times we actually needed her. Ambience: the restaurant was pretty plain and the servers were very casual, so we were pretty surprised with the beautiful food presentation.

We found Dundee Gastropub on a Sunday night in September. Kentucky was playing the South Carolina Gamecocks and half the restaurant was taken over by very enthusiastic sports fans. Still, the menu motivated us to stay and we weren't sorry. My partner's Chicken and Waffles was a huge sweet-and-sour take on the dish, sitting in collards and pot liquor and topped with crunchy diced watermelon pickle. My Turkey and Fig Jam grilled sandwich was perfectly crunchy, although I *was* disappointed that it wasn't real sliced turkey. Our Black Moon Cake--dark chocolate cake, whipped ganache, chocolate shavings, and (not enough) whipped cream--was rich and sweet. There were so many delicious choice on the menu; we'll be back before we leave Louisville!

So, full disclosure, this just isn't my type of place. Which I didn't know until I looked at the menu. Everything is pretty heavy and fatty. I had a chopped salad, and every component of the salad was fresh and crisp. The dressing was tasty but made me feel like I gained a pound with each bite. So really my complaint was that I was after a light lunch and I didn't find it there. That said, my friend had a burger and subbed the fries for greens and she was really happy.

When this place was Dundee Tavern, it was a great place to grab a good meal at a reasonable price and watch a game. Now that it's been re-made into a "gastropub" it is simply pretentious and overpriced. The chef has tried to create unique dishes that just fall flat - little flavor, odd combinations, etc. Save your money, there are 3 better places on Dundee Loop, alone, not to mention on Bardstown Road just a few feet away.

Took my family here on a Saturday evening for dinner. Seated quickly. Then the waiting began. Saturday night, so I wasn't expecting real speed, but after our meals were brought out we had to wait extravagant amounts of time to get drink refills and condiments. The quality of the food was varied. We had the Dundee Dip to start. Very tasty. For an entree, my parents had the black bean burger, which they said was average. Boyfriend had the chicken and waffles. It was not served with syrup, which was fine, but made for a somewhat dry meal. I had the braised short ribs. They were very rare, but tasted delicious, so I ate them. Regret there...I was quite sick later that evening. I cannot confirm whether it was food poisoning from undercooked meat, but I suspect it was. Honestly, though, my biggest complaint about this place was how loud it was. We were literally leaning over the table shouting at each other the whole time. This might be fine if you're headed out for a crazy night with the boys, but not conducive to conversation at all. Sorry to say I probably won't give this place a second shot.

meh. grabbed a drink here while we waited for our large party to arrive for dinner elsewhere in the neighborhood and was less than impressed with just about everything. typical college bar, but full of stuck up white people...ill pass.

Greatest experience! First off.. The BELT they have is probably one of the greatest sandwiches I've had in a VERY long time. And now they have Freddy back bartending! He was there previous and he is the nicest bartender that has ever served me. So over all. Terrific service and terrific food. I'll be coming back here again soon!

Tonight was the first time my wife and I have been here, and we loved it! Unfortunately, we had already eaten dinner. We had Goat Cheese Lollipops, and they were GREAT! Maybe the best appetizer I have ever had, which is saying a lot. Great beer selection, and the menu looks very interesting. "Hot Brown Nachos"...can't wait to try that. I have been told their burgers are great, so looking forward to coming back hungry. Charlie was great, as well!

I am surprised at the negative reviews on here because my experience was anything but! My boyfriend and I met some friends up here for drinks on Saturday. They were pretty packed as it was the night of the St. Patrick's Day parade but our service was prompt and friendly. They have a heck of a beer selection that includes some nice local craft brews. I was definitely keen to try their new menu out so I had the 7 Salad with fried onions, peas, tomatoes, eggs, etc...it was presented nicely and was very tasty. The portion sizes are huge so I had plenty to take home for lunch. I'm looking forward to going back to try some more of their food - they have a pimento cheese melt that is calling my name!

The food is a great addition to the Douglas Loop scene but the building and interior has not changed much from the Dundee times but don't let that fool you. The food is leaps and bounds better that the old Sysco frozen food. We went for lunch so we were limited to sandwiches. The dinner menu looked extensive and has all new items. I started with a Fall City draft and the white bean soup. It was full of ham pieces and the beans had that all day cooked texture to them. We also shared the pimento cheese melt which was served very hot and was a great starter. I ordered the short rib grilled cheese and my wife got the BELT sandwich, Bacon, Eggs, Lettuce and Tomato. Both were right on point. Looking forward to a dinner here so I can try the Chicken and Waffles, Bourbon Braised Short Ribs or the Pub Steak.

This place is just off Bardstown Road in the Highlands. Met a few friends last night for some food and drinks. They have a very good craft beer selection. I got the whiskey steak salad that was very good, and an interesting flavor combo nation (caramelized pears and pecans added a bit of sweetness). The idea of Southern food with a twist really works well. The atmosphere of the place is very relaxed, but slightly higher end. It is a good place for younger people, but the older crowd can have a good time as well.

On a recommendation from a friend, I recently visited the Dundee Gastro pub for dinner. I had the shrimp and grits and my son had the mac & cheese. The food was great, not a single complaint. I don't like grits and I loved their shrimp and grits. The food was fresh and clean and excellently prepared. The decor was simple and clean, not over thought nor pretentious. Our hostess & server were very polite, prompt, and helpful; quite wonderful at their jobs. The menu has many selections but it's not overburdened and there are many local craft brews on draft. There's a separate bar area as well as many screens around the joint, and there is outdoor seating. I hear rumor the kids eat free on Tuesdays. Overall it was a great experience without any negatives. I highly recommend this place for dinner and I'm excited to try it out for lunch.
