We stopped in for lunch just before 3 pm closing on a Saturday. It was delicious. I didn't have a gift to take to my brother's so I took one of the cakes. It was fantastic When the owner heard we were on a long trip and our next hotel did not have breakfast, she made us a box of pastries and muffins. Her pastries were so welcome the next morning. You will never be disappointed when you get something at Cake Flour.

I stopped by for breakfast and got the powerhouse breakfast sandwich: toasted walnut bread, egg whites, cheese, tomatoes, and spinach. Simply delicious and really gave me an energy boost for the day. Nice place to read a book and peacefully eat bfast.

I had the ham and cheese croissant with pesto. Very good. The ham was so good that I asked one of the counter attendants where they get it from! It comes from Smoking Goose in Indianapolis. Next Indy road trip, I'm buying me some ham! My friend and I split a chocolate crusted tart with pecan filling. Yum but probably would have been even better warm. The best part? The Black Chocolate French Macaroon!!!! I've had Ladurée macaroons and I have to say, this macaroon was on par if not better! It is the best macaroon I have eaten in the states at least. The best macaroon I have eaten in Europe was the blood orange from Ladurée in London across from Fortnum & Mason.

When we first moved to Lville Cake Flour was located on Market Street which was must closer to us, now they are located out of the way now. But we do stop once in a while. I have had Cake Flour at a Yelp Elite event, ordered for my niece's birthday and stopped by once or twice. Their Macaroons are out of this world, but that is really the only thing I would go back for. They are also out of this world expensive...We ordered 11 and it was about $25.00. They offer gluten free options daily, but from what I have tried I am not impressed. I can make things more flavorful at home. The cupcakes are normally dry and the frosting is way too sugary. Their flourless chocolate cake is supposed to award winning, again I have had better. When I ordered this for my niece birthday I asked them to put raspberries around it, cost me $8.00!!!! And it was maybe 9 raspberries, I would have bought my own if I had known the price. I also ordered the Opera Cake, the online definition says nothing about coffee flavor, so I order two of them for my niece birthday-I try one and spit it back out-coffee flavor. ICK. We have never tried the food there-lunch/breakfast etc. So I cannot really comment on it. The inside is clean and neat. Again, macaroons are amazing here but the prices and everything else I have tried are so-so. I would try another bakery before I ordered anything from here again.

What a sweet place! I actually stumbled here by accident the first time last year and have been back several times for different reasons. Firstly they have a Bourbon Chocolate Carmel cake which is unbelievable!!! They make the best tasting macaroons I've ever had in Louisville. They also have a small little sit down area for lunch where they serve a variety of freshly made sandwiches and soups...coffee is served as well which made it extra tasty for me!

While I have never actually been to Cake Flour, I had the utter delight of receiving some of their cupcakes, on my birthday, as a gift. They made a special delivery, straight to my house! It made my day! :) I was sent 4 cupcakes. Two of which were the most amazing chocolate cupcakes I have ever had. Instead of chocolate frosting, they were topped with mousse and dipped in a hard, chocate shell! To top it off, they had a creamy, fudge center, as well! Soooo good! The other two cupcakes were an orange cupcake (to die for!) and a caramel cupcake (oh. my. god.). These cupcakes were EVERYTHING. I hope to make an actual store visit, soon, to check out even more of what they have to offer, but, in the mean time, you should call them, ASAP, and order some delicious, delicious cupcakes!

I have eaten many of their offerings & had some quite good so I ordered a cake for someone's special day...well. The Strawberry cake looked beautiful but of the 10 people who got slices after cutting after the recommend wait time only one liked it & that wasn't me. 50 plus dollars for the cake must of been for the look because the taste was lacking & frankly the layers seemed old. 9 of the ten didn't finish a small piece 2 one bite'd and were done. If I wasn't very close to the person whose birthday it was I would thrown it back in box & taken everyone somewhere to order dessert but did not want to embarrass her on her day. Honestly it was my choice to order but it was a mistake. Now I want to be clear the flourless chocolate cake here is one of the best things ever in this city but from now on it will be the only thing I buy there. Contacted bakery about my concerns & was quickly apologized to & bakery offered a refund or gift certificate for the value of the cake ordered. I took the certificate know there is better quality at the bakery & want to taste it!

Ambivalence is when your favorite organic bakery with a Flourless Chocolate Cake worth driving across town for moves closer to you. (Uh-oh!)

The place is beautifully decorated and in a great location, but the great experience ended there. The employees and quality of product were 2 star worth at best. The egg sandwich which came highly recommended was out of stock, but she recommended a ham and Swiss on a croissant which she claimed was "similar". It is premade and frozen. Despite us asking for them to be grilled sandwiches the middle was a solid block of ice. The sandwiches took 10 minutes for them to bring out.... And they still were FROZEN!!! The lady at the counter found it her mission to talk down to us.... Easy lady I know I look dumb paying $11 for a frozen sandwich. Also the coffee was Maxwell house quality. I heard the used to be in NULU and recently moved out to this locations... might be because NULU has better options? I guess this pastry and tart shop should just stick to pastry and tarts.

My beer cheese and bacon sandwich was okay (but not worth $12) the cole slaw wasn't overly mayoed and fresh (but a tiny cup), double decker cookie was pretty good and my raspberry vanilla Italian soda was exactly what I wanted. They were out of the hazelnut opera cake, but I recommend you try that. The brownies are also very good, including the blondie brownie I tried today. However, seriously, my ham and cheese sandwich was $12. That came with a small side, small bag of chips (that were obviously dumped from a big generic wavy lays bag). It wasn't large, it wasn't even a very tasty sandwich. Absolutely not worth $12.

I have been buying goods from Cake Flour for about 4 years now and I love their service and cooking. They are a fabulous local bakery. We also regularly send their cookies to relatives who moved to Maryland. Five out of five stars.

Cupcakes were overpriced but I thought maybe they would be worth it. Worst cupcakes I've ever had. Too dense and dry.

The reviews here on this gem leave my head spinning. Either they have made a complete turnaround, or the folks that have made their negative comments had a bad day here. I can't believe it took me so long to come in this place. Everything from when I walked in the door, to when I left was perfect. I ordered a to-go lunch to eat while I was getting a pedicure. The turkey, brie, and cranberry relish sandwich, which came with a tabbouleh salad made with sprouted quinoa that was PERFECTLY seasoned, was my choice. I am a stickler for seasoning food with salt and pepper, and unfortunately, chefs around here seem to underestimate the importance of this, so this dish put a smile on my face. As soon as I walked into the door, I was greeted with a smile and a salutation.....The counter girl (i don't know what else to call her) was very friendly, familiarizing me with the menu, and making suggestions as to what to get. When it came to pay, I mistakenly overlooked the pastry case......what is that I see? .....PALMIERS????? OK, throw that in too.....the REAL butter layered flavors came out...no corn syrup or margarine here, folks. Since I cook, but do not bake, Cake Flour will be my choice for parties, and gifts to clients. Don't miss this place. You will regret it if you don't!

I had heard a lot of great things about Cake Flour and decided to give it a try.. I've never been so disappointed. I ordered an egg salad sandwich, a bowl of soup and my husband and I each got a baked good. When our total for 4 items came out to $31, I was shocked. Over $30 for a sandwich, soup and 2 pastries!? There are no prices posted anywhere in the store or on their website, and for good reason. They are outrageously priced! $6 for a tiny chocolate tart?? The food came out and I was sorely disappointed. The soup bowl was hot, however the soup inside was lukewarm at best. There was about 2.5 tablespoons of egg salad on my sandwich and the bread left a lot to be desired. Total letdown. As for our baked goods, my husband enjoyed his carrot cake cupcake, whereas my chocolate tart was way too rich and very bitter. I've never been so unhappy with a $30 lunch.. We left hungry and dissatisfied with our food and the service. Definitely won't be back.
