Every sandwich I have had there is great.

Meh is the best word I can use to describe this place. I have been here three times and every time has been disappointing in some way. Once the fries came out so greasy and with so much salt they were inedible. The second time the bacon on my burger was still half raw. And this last time (the final time I swear!) I got a buffalo chicken sandwich and paid a rather hefty upcharge for extra pickles and jalapeno. What I got was a massive bun with 7 big pieces of pickle (which was awesome, thanks!), 4 tiny pieces of jalapeno, and 2 (no joke) pieces of chicken that were the size of a McDonalds chicken nugget, that appeared to be unseasoned...? I found no trace of buffalo anything, anywhere. The sandwich was easily the weirdest and most unsatisfying thing ever! (well, except for the pickles. Pickles are never not satisfying) I don't know if I have just the worst luck in the world with this place (the reviews and pictures would suggest I do), or what, but I would rather use my money to place bets with other restaurants in town where I come out a winner more often than not.

I'm not sure if this place is really good or really awful. Probably both. I got the Lexington. (I think that's what it is called?) It's the one with the onion ring and bbq sauce on it. Well, it was very good. I genuinely enjoyed the burger. But, it was DRIPPING with grease. I know, I know. You'll say, "Umm. It is a HAMBURGER. Hamburgers are greasy!" *sigh* I get that. But this was on another level. The grease was probably one of the reasons it tasted as well as it did, but it caused me have a pretty upset stomach. That COULD be because I'm not used to eating such bad food. So when I do, it causes harm. The onion rings are great. They use red onion. Kinda cool. Don't usually see that. I like the Bunz sauce. Kinda like a honey mustard type of thing going on there. I walked into the bathroom to wash my hands. When I walked in, I just looked around and said, "Oh My God." Pretty gross bathroom. But you know - I kind of expected that. And would have been disappointed had it not been as gross as it was. 4 stars. Unless you hate greasy burgers and grotesque bathrooms. Then 2 stars.

Let's start by saying.... This was a DAMN GOOD BURGER!!!! I'm home alone on a Saturday night, I don't feel like taking to the kitchen, so I decide to indulge myself with a tasty burger. I knew this place was off Baxter Ave and wasn't far. Decided to make this dinner right before heading to Springhurst to meet my husband. I do not regret it - at all! Now... I will tell you I passed by the place the first time. My GPS is on and it's telling me the place is on the right side but I just don't see it. That's because this ain't no fancy shmancy, grand marquee, ultra inviting place. Instead it's a place with a sitting area the size of a NY apartment with a simple sign on the door. Either way... I've heard good things and I'm going in. I finally find parking, cross the street, walk in and I can feel my face kind of cringe up as I'm wondering where the rest is. Our FL dive scene is nowhere near this! But if I've learned anything so far in Louisville, I'm in for a treat. Walk to the counter and the cool guy with a lip piercing asks how he can help me. His voice isn't abrasive or rushed, he's smiling and can tell I've never been. I order the Baxter Avenue. He takes to the flat top and starts laying stuff out.... and boy does my mouth start watering! Bacon, Egg, Double Patty... yum yum yum. I ask him a little about the Bunz Sauce and he offers to let me taste it. He asks me if I want my yolk cooked, I tell him runny is good. He's laughs and says... I'm glad I asked and continues to assemble a burger fit for the Godz! A little tomato, lettuce, jalapenos, hot sauce and it's done. So, I gather my burger and head to my car. Before I know it... I'm opening my burger up and scarfing down half the burger before I even turn the ignition. Just the aroma of a well cooked burger... I couldn't resist. I start driving after cleaning up my face and make it to meet my husband. Then guess what... He smells the burger in the car and says... let's go get one for me! So within an hour I'm back in Bunz ordering the same exact thing. Dude is literally chuckling when he sees me walk in! Either way, hubz totally enjoyed his burger and since this is one of the few things he loves... I know we WILL be back. As I mentioned earlier... this is a DAMN GOOD BURGER! I could have used a little seasoning on the patty and yes, it's a bit on the greasy side. But I think that's what makes it what it is. And for a burger that good after 12am (on the weekend), I can't complain.

Ordered from here a few weeks ago and had it delivered. First of all, it took two hours to get my order. Not sure if that was the restaurant or the delivery service. My girlfriend and I ordered two burgess with fries and a side of onion rings. What we got was one burger, two fries, and an onion ring. I was prepared to just eat my cheese fries and accept it as a loss until I realized my fries were burnt and inedible. Delivery service is not for this place, and from what I have heard from friends, the experience there isn't much better. I spent $50 on this order. My girlfriend's burger and my crispy black fries were not worth fifty dollars.

Delicious! I had the beer cheese burger and it was fantastic. The sauce really adds to the flavor of the burger. Everything tastes fresh which is surprising hard to find around most burger joints. I'll definitely be back to try out other items on the menu. My only concern is the prices of the burgers. It's a tad bit pricey but it's also good so I can't rant about it too much.

Best burger in town in my opinion. I personally like the blue state and the beer cheese burger. Fries are always on point and the bunz sauce is too good. Inside is kind of small, that's the only downside. I like the fact that they seem to let people tag the walls in the bathroom too.

This is one of those places that you could see every day but never make it in, and that would be a huge mistake! Bunz has the best burgers in town, and now you can even order ahead of time for carryout! Today, I had the Santa Fe burger and the SO had the Red State burger. They added a few new burgers to the menu in the past few months, and the Santa Fe is my new favorite. It features bacon, avocado, Bunz sauce and pepper jack cheese. It is a juicy burger already, but the Bunz sauce takes it over the edge. I could eat it every day. The Red State is a double patty with hot sauce, pickles, jalapenos, pepper jack and mayo. The SO says he loves the tangy spicy combination of this burger. We also added on a basket of hot fries, which are tossed in a house-made buffalo sauce. The aren't overly spicy but have a great flavor. No other fries even compare. We order those fries every time, and we always finish the basket. It's kind of a greasy spoon feel inside, so people weirded out by that probably won't like the atmosphere. Also if there's a few people in front of you then expect to wait at least 15 minutes for your food, but it's definitely worth it! And the best part is that you can now sidestep the wait by ordering ahead of time on-line. Perfection!

I love Bunz. Plain and simple. It's not flashy. But they serve one of the best burgers in the city. The restaurant is small. A few tables inside, a few tvs, and a couple tables outside. Half of the time I go in here there is only one person working. But their food is impeccable and their service has been wonderful. This place isn't for everyone. It's what I call "good-greasy"; a little bit greasy but with plenty of taste. If that doesn't appeal to you, there are other burger joints around. But I pop in here every so often and have enjoyed every occasion. They have a great of items on the menu: a Blue Cheese Burger, Jalapeño, a veggie, and my most recent discovery, the Beer Cheese Burger. They make their own beer cheese and it's truly something you can't pass up. If I was forced to point out a flaw, I'd say they could redo their bathrooms. Spray paint on the walls is a turn off. But they're very clean so it's minor. You can't pass this place up. Get there ASAP.

So let's dive in to Bunz. Nestled between some of the more well-known foodie venues on Baxter Ave/Bardstown Rd, Bunz is tucked at the tail end of the original Big Wick's. It is, obviously, a hole in the wall, with enough space on the interior for 3-4 tables, a few more outside as well. A sizeable counter with a menu board hides some of the action occurring at the grill, but you can stand and watch for a little while as long as you're not blocking the flow. Voyeurism is allowed. The grill masters, interchange between order takers to fry chefs at the blink of an eye, there's only two after all, and there has to be some unison in such cramped quarters. Ordering a Red State for myself, a Lexington Roadhouse for the bacon-lover and a pretty standard cheeseburger for the picky-eater among us, we pulled up some chairs, anticipating the flavors that lay immediately ahead. We were not disappointed. The Red State, socio-political implications aside, is a sweet and spicy delight. Loved the Habagardil pickles. The Lexington Roadhouse was a bacon-y, BBQ-sauce laden burger that the oldest could not simply handle on his own, and my youngest's cheeseburger, was one of the best he's had in his well-tread 7 years. All this plus a basket of Cheddar Bacon fries was a cheek-filling cheesy masterpiece. My one caveat, well, two really is that one, I don't care for sesame seeds, and two, it can be a bit slow. But that's no crack on the establishment, because in the end, Bunz had a lot of flavor packed in a pretty, tight package. - 30 -

Small but mighty. This little hole in the wall packs in lots of flavor. Our party of 4 each got a different burger and 1 basket of fries to share. Inside and outdoor seating available. Employees were super friendly and helpful with the menu. I had the beer cheese burger special, double patty, grilled onions, KY beer cheese, mayo, pickles and bacon. It was delicious! Everyone in my group loved their burger. Prices were reasonable. My only complaint is that it could have been a bit cleaner in there. And a cold beer would have gone great with lunch but they only serve sodas. Will definitely be back.

Service wasn't the friendliest, and they were out of milk for milkshakes and sauce for their signature bunz sauce. The burger was descent though.

I came here for a great burger and that's exactly what I got! Whoever was the first person to put an egg on a burger is a genius. One of the reasons this place has such good burgers, is because of the fried egg. Also, the fries are what make the meal great. The workers are also very kind. All around a great spot to come to!

Great little burger joint! I'm from Texas and was here visiting & decided to try it out-was not disappointed! Everything made fresh right in front of you. I got the single patty burger w/cheddar and fries-you MUST try the Bunz sauce that they make-it is delicious! I used it for my fries but next time I'll get it on my burger too! If you're in the area and looking for a great place to eat a burger-give them a try! I'll definitely be back every time I'm in Louisville!

The burgers are delicious and the price is good, the environment, however, is not one in which I want to linger. So, for me, this place is take out only, but that won't stop me from enjoying the deliciousness that is ANY one of their burgers!

After passing this place 20 times, I finally decided to give Bunz a try. The Burger was decent and the toppings were fresh, but it was a little too greasy for my liking. No complaints, just a personal preference. The only negative I care to mention is the cheese used on the cheese fries. They use shredded cheese which gives the topping the consistency of concrete. I was not a fan. I'm glad I gave Bunz a try. The staff was friendly and the joint has that Louisville, Indie vibe that I've grown to love. As for the food?..Its just not my kind of Burger. No complaints..to each their own.

Was driving around looking for somewhere to grab a burger and glanced to my left. There is was, Bunz. Small place, cool vibe, much like a place on Haight St. in San Francisco - posters for local events plastering the window, a few tables, and punk bluegrass music on their system. Had a beer cheese burger - special of the day - and cheezy bacon fries. Wow, what a burger. One of the best I have ever had. If you are looking for a great burger without a lot of the trappings of a "gourmet" burger joint this is the place. Unfortunately for me, I don't live in Louisville or this would be my go-to place. Great people working here and it shows in the food.

I had and was very impressed with the 'Baxter St' burger, the fries were fresh and very good! The staff was attentive and pleasant. The onion rings were made with red onions and tasty, but very greasy and the batter was falling off. The only real critism I have is the cleanliness, the dining area and restrooms were pretty bad. The food was very good, but I don't think I could go back.....

Bunz is a hole in the wall burger dive, but thats one of the things that makes it great. Bunz "dinning room" sits about 12 with a clear view of the grill. One gripe I have is that the walls are so thin it gets rather cold in the winter, this can force patroons to get in and out. Food is excellent and tastes fresh and is well prepared. Food is served right off the grill so its always piping hot. The menu has a good selection of house burgers but you can also customize and build your own. There are a variety of sides to choose from to go with your burger. I have tried 3 different burgers and all of them have been excellent. The house made Bunz's sauce is a great addition to any sandwich, be sure to check it out. The sweet potato fries are top notch. I highly recommend checking out the local greasy spoon for a quality burger. Its also in the highlands which is a great location for this style establishment.

My Red State Burger was ridiculously delicious! Bunz is a tiny place. It is a little grimy: not in the way that makes you afraid to eat there, but in the way that makes you think the place could use a thorough scrubbing. There was one guy working when I arrived, and he seemed a little frazzled. He was friendly though. I ordered the Red State Gourmet Burger (double burger, grilled jalapeños and onions, pepper jack cheese and pickles. I made it a combo with drink and fries, which brought my total to $9.48. The burger was off-the-hook fantastic! The ground beef patties were generously sized, formed to order, and cooked to perfection. The other ingredients perfectly complemented the burger, adding flavor but not overwhelming the beef. The whole thing was dangerously juicy. Sorry for not taking a photo. The burger looked so good that primal instincts kicked in. I decimated the burger before I remembered. The fries were good. Perfectly cooked to order. On the recommendation of other yelpers, I asked for a side of Bunz sauce in which to dip the fries. That was a good choice. The 1-star penalty is for not offering freshly brewed iced tea, but the food was so good that I'll be back anyway.

One of the best burgers in the city, yet so under-appreciated. This is one of my top choices for a late-night bite because it's fast, affordable, and totally delicious. I usually go with the Highland Bunz (feta, olives, capers) add bacon, because I love that umami sensation. The boyfriend always gets the Red State, which is also amazing and kinda spicy. The meat is delectable, and they smash it on a flat top for a crispy exterior. Fries are always tempting, but THOSE ONION RINGS THO. I am pretty sure they are hand-battered and are seasoned to perfection, served with a side of Bunz sauce. They are addictive and may be the main reason I crave Bunz all the time. My only complaint about the place is that there is not a lot of seating and the atmosphere inside is not great. I usually take it to go. The workers are all really cool, especially the giant ginger viking dude (who is by far the best cook and the manager, I think). I do believe they are in the process of remodeling, so this may be changed to five stars soon.

This joint rocks! My husband and I went here for lunch today because I was in the mood for a burger & not from McDonalds or any other place w/ frozen burgers but a real burger! Let me warn you, this is not an upscale restaurant by any means but looks can be deceiving. The burgers are good. My husband ordered the Baxter Avenue which consisted of a: Double burger, fried egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, bunz sauce hold the red onion. I tried the Lexington Roadhouse which is a Single burger with cheddar cheese, pepper jack, an onion ring, and BBQ sauce and it was great. I didn't taste a lot of seasoning but I honestly think the secret to these burgers are exactly what the name suggest--bunz! I loved the crunchiness of the fried onion ring & the BBQ sauce was a nice touch. I will definitely be returning for a more healthier burger. I'm interested in trying their veggie burger since you can add whatever you want to your burger & they cook to order. I tried the sweet potato fries as well. They weren't bad but they didn't wow me either! You should definitely try this place!

My fella & I walked up the street one Sunday afternoon in search of a burger. A really, really good burger. Bunz served that right up. Placing our order was easy, and the wait wasn't long - even with a handful of orders in front of ours. There's outdoor seating, but we opted for the air-conditioned indoors. It's a very small dining area, but it's got character. When we got our burgers & fries, I was a bit overwhelmed. My burger was big - and it was just the single pattied Lexington Roadhouse Burger. My man got the Baxter Burger. Holy crap. Two patties, cheese, bacon, fried egg & Bunz sauce. It typically comes with onion, but he's weird. My burger had an onion ring (heart eyes emoji) and BBQ sauce, along with two cheeses: cheddar & pepper jack. The burger was amazing, but the fries stunk. They were over-cooked & the oil they were fried in was obviously old. Meh. But the burger was GOOD. I'll absolutely come back for that, even if the greasy goodness gave me a stomachache. It was the good kind of pain.

Best burger + fries combo in Louisville, hands down. Nothing fancy; just a damn good burger. Oh, and Bunz sauce FTW.

Wow, the best burger i ever had in my life, fresh home made burgers, every bite brought me to burger heaven. The workers were awesome, made sure our lunch was enjoyable experience. I ordered jalapeño poppers and i didnt expect it to be very fresh. I found out they ran out and went ahead to make new ones for me on the spot, that's how much they care about their business. Even the fries were good! If u ever end up in the Louisville area, go there. Its a must!

Realizing that my hesitation for a five star review is completely without merit- five stars it is! Burgers, as an American staple and poster-child for fast food and obesity tend to get a slightly negative rep as solely being a convenient replacement for an actual meal. If this is your perception, get your buns to Bunz. It is a safe place to fully indulge and embrace the many possibilities that a hamburger can offer. They have many suggested combinations, but I recommend that you get creative and build your own burger because few places offer such an opportunity. If your not into cow, they also offer a tasty veggie burger and fish. Their fries are a good sidekick as well. Check it out, get creative, and taste what a real hamburger tastes like.

After so many people telling me about this little gem, I was finally able to check it out on Saturday. They were quite busy, but the food was definitely worth the wait. I ordered the Baxter Avenue burger combo minus the egg. It was absolutely amazing. In a world where burgers are nothing more than frozen processes compressed patties, Bunz burgers were the absolute opposite. They were better than the burgers I make at home. Did I mention that they are also huge and if cut in half could easily be two meals for an average eater. Perfect amount of cheese, bacon and sauce. Their fries and onion rings were pretty stellar too. I am looking forward to going back and trying different burgers. I plan to be a definite repeat diner.

To follow up on my review from six months ago, I want to like Bunz. In really, really do. Local burger joint right down the street with personality and a friendly staff. But the Burgers just aren't all that special. Gave it another try after my last visit. And, while everything is tasty enough, it ends up tasting like a high-end top of the line Steak 'n Shake burger. With really forgettable fries. And not much more. 3 Stars because it's not a Steak 'n Shae burger.

I ordered 2 burgers and cheese fries and a drink. The price was a bit outrageous and the order didn't come with napkins or a cold drink. If I'm paying nearly 2$ for a coke it better be cold. The cheese fries didn't come with any dipping sauce so they were kind of plain. I mean the food was good but for 33$ I expected a little bit more. And it took almost an hour to get here. Maybe this is a dine in only restaurant.

We went to bunz on a Monday night...and I was really craving a good burger. I was not disappointed by this place! It was a true hole in the wall with only four high top tables with 2-3 stools at each. It was very small...you could even see the "chef" cooking on the grill right behind the cash register. We ordered two custom burgers with the toppings that we liked but we also ordered the blue state bunz that had blue cheese on the burger as well as the Baxter Avenue Bunz which has a fried egg on top. All of the burgers were delicious! We really enjoyed the Bunz special sauce. For sides we ordered the cheese and bacon fries, the fried mushrooms, the sweet potato fries, and the onion rings. All of the sides were very good as well. This establishment is a little greasy...but that makes it taste so much better! The only disappointment was that after we ate our food we were going to order milkshakes that are on the menu. The two guys that worked there were outside smoking while we were eating. When they came back in we asked to order a milkshake and he told us "they didn't have any stuff for the milkshakes...it is a freezer problem." We weren't too sure he was telling us the truth but maybe...so we took our dessert business to Comfy Cow! We will be back again soon...but next time we will only order single burgers (the double was too big...even for the boys!)

We love checking out local food joints whenever we are traveling. After reading the reviews for Bunz we had to check it out. So glad we did! The burgers were AMAZING! Thick, juicy and full of flavor. We had regular and sweet potato fries, both were excellent. Service was great too. Highly recommend this place!

The best burger I've had yet. A bit of a dive feel only gave character to this establishment in my opinion. I ordered the beer cheese burger and was not let down at all. Moist, loaded with great flavor, and leaving me craving one as I describe it now. Accompanied with perfectly seasoned fries and cut to the size I prefer. A side of their famous "bunz sauce" is a must to dip your fries in when you go so make sure to ask. They had a great selection of soft drinks, oddly as it sounds. I can never decide between hi-c or cherry coke which I never get the option of anywhere else in town. The only complaints I could have is the first time the gentlemen that took my order was very friendly but on the second occasion I went it was completely the opposite. It was if he was purposely trying to show me he was irritated about something. You mad bruh? Lol Furthermore, the wait can be long at times due to the amount of business they get for such a small business. But of course I don't mind it, it's always worth it.

Probably one of the best dives in Louisville. I had the California Burger and fries and both were fresh and very tasty. The staff is friendly and very informative. This place I highly recommend for those that love a tasty burger that they can afford.

I had a client recommend Bunz to me . I'm not usually a huge fan of burgers so bear that in mind. You can add toppings that aren't classic ones (i.e. avocado), for a little bit extra. I ended up ordering a single burger with sweet potato fries. The man working there, opened our door when we walked in which was surprising and nice. The burger wasn't half bad. I was really impressed with the sweet potato fries though. Crisp and full of flavor. He offered me honey to have with the fries. I gave it a go, and it really accentuates the flavor. Casual, relaxed atmosphere. Helpful, help, without having a waiter. (you can tip tho at register).

Best Burgers EVER - the only thing that would push Bunz to a 5 is if they used local products ;-). Every burger I've ever had here is amazing from veggie to beef! Being able to craft your own burger is fun too! You can get capers and olives or grilled mushrooms, onions and more! ... AND they're inexpensive! ENJOY!

WOWZER! This is one phenomenal whole in the wall! My boyfried and his brother are burger snobs and they were more than satisfied with what Bunz has to offer! Not only do they have amazing burger, but I LOVE their onion rings! In my opinion they are in the best in town and I always find myself craving them! Their burgers are delicious, and range from $5.00 to $7.00. Bunz is also conveniently placed between some great bars! Check it out!

My boyfriend and I absolutely love Bunz! We go here to eat at least once a week, sometimes more depending on how strong our cravings are. With that being said, the staff is very friendly and the food is made to order, so it's always fresh. We enjoy sitting outside to eat and people watch. If you haven't tried Bunz yet, what are you waiting for? Go ASAP! :D

This is my new favorite burger in Louisville. Got carry out with my son. He got the Baxter Burger, I got the Double. My wife got a single burger. All of the burgers are cooked fresh. The fries were crisp and perfect. The burgers were juicy. The buns held together well. Overall an excellent burger!

it was fast. That's was the best part of the experience. The burger is fried and definitely not high grade meat. The onion rings were burnt and I mean burnt. No ice cream for milkshake I think this place is designed for kids on a budget. It's far better than mcdonalds for 2x the cost and that is who they should be compared to

We were in the mood for good food, and I particularly wanted a burger. I couldn't think of any place nearby that had burgers that wasn't fast food, so we were walking to a pizza place instead. Thanks to random guy on the street, we ended up at Bunz instead. My son and I both got the Lexington Roadhouse, and we shared a basket of fries. It was the perfect amount. The burgers are fresh ground beef, not frozen patties. They were a bit large, and very tasty! The fries came out very hot, crispy and salty- just the way we like them. The place is very small inside, so not suitable for a group to eat in, and they only have a couple tables outside as well. Thanks, random street guy, for introducing us to our new favorite burger joint. We'll certainly be returning to try all the other tasty-looking options!

It doesn't seem like much from the outside, but its burgers are really great. Our bill for two people was $20 which included drinks and fries as well as double burgers. It is a great go to if you are not looking for a fancy sit down or want a beer with your burger (no booze).

I was so excited to try Bunz because of the great yelp reviews and good things I had heard from friends but my visit left me a little disappointed. I was expecting the best burger I had ever eaten and I was definitely let down. The burger itself was ok but a little bland and the chili cheese fries were nothing more than basic fries with canned chili and cheese sauce. I liked that the burgers were cooked to order and I will probably give them a second try but I definitely won't bring my little kiddos with me. Not only do they not have a high chair all of the inside seating it high top tables and counters. Sitting at a high top with a two year old in my lap was pretty unpleasant. I was too afraid she would lose her balance in one of the tall chairs so I couldn't let her sit by herself. I guess I had just assumed that a burger place would be kid friendly but sadly that wasn't the case.

This place focuses on burgers and I think it pretty much pays off. I got the Highland Bunz burger and basket of sweet potato fries. The fries were great. The Highland has feta, capers and olives so is a bit off the beaten path as far as what I'm usually looking for in a burger (mouth watering, savory, etc.). This tasted more like a healthy lunch meats a lean burger. So if that's what you're looking for, go all in. For me, I'll have to go back and try another one to be fair. You can make al a carte choices, and I was eyeing the Buffalo BBQ.

Great burgers. They have hit the perfect balance of greasy, meaty, gooey deliciousness. It's indulgent, but not going to give you indigestion for the next three days. I think it may have preemptively cured my next two hangovers. (Objectively, I see why a tiny shop located within walking distance of a dozen or so bars doesn't have a liquor license, but my burger would have been really good with a beer. Has anyone tried taking a to go order to one of the surrounding bars? Because this was definitely better than the burgers at Molly Malones)

  • Kristen W.

A decent burger, definitely not for a light-eater. I got buffalo, but I knew as soon as I saw them get the buffalo patty from the freezer I should have ordered their fresh, loosely-packed beef burger. I definitely enjoyed it, while nothing blew me away. I'd go back if I had a burger craving on Bardstown.

  • Alec P.

A really solid burger place. The burgers are really amazing, they aren't frilly high end burgers, they're greasy and amazingly good. Their fries and onion rings are probably the best I've had in town. The fact that they make them fresh with every order is a big plus. I can see how some people aren't blown away by the burgers, there is only so much you can do to a burger to make it above and beyond the rest. Bunz has perfect their burger and I don't think it needs to go above and beyond anything! My one suggestion for improving would be to start serving beer, then I'd be in heaven come lunch time.

I like that Bunz has a portobello mushroom "burger" (even though I'm not a vegetarian, I play one on TV sometimes), but their toppings weren't the greatest and the prices are a little high. Also, the place is super tiny, but all in all I'd probably go back.

I am reposting this, as I just noticed that Bunz deleted my original post from about a month ago! Shame! Reposting unedited. I just had a truly disgusting experience at Bunz. Gross! I hadn't been there in years but my last experience, even as a vegetarian, was so great! Today after my boyfriend and I ordered our veggie burgers, had paid, wiped off a dirty table and sat down, one of the staff came out and told us they needed to run to the store for veggie burgers. Annoying but...okay. I was already a little grossed out by the dingy appearance of the store but we had already paid so we decided to stay. The girl eventually got back with the burgers. Once she came back they got the burgers together fairly quickly. They put two boca patties on the burger - I think they were trying to make up for our wait, but it was just too much. The burgers were a super unappetizing color, an off white raw chicken-esq type hue. We had each paid $1.59 to add avocado to our burgers and got a few scant pieces. My boyfriend said the bleu cheese he had added to his was the only saving grace. The fries were actually really good but I was too grossed out by everything else to enjoy them. Worst of all, they don't serve alcohol so I was completely sober for this entire awful experience. Last note - staff was actually very nice and it's not their fault. Management needs to step in, give them the supplies they need to do their job and clean this nasty place top to bottom!

Finally tried this place after being pressured and I have to say...it does not live up to the hype. The burger was "okay" and a little on the overdone side. Not much to say about it besides that. It's a burger. Bunz does little to impress, but even less to worry. A perfectly serviceable place if you simply want a real burger and can't be bothered to fire up the grill.

These burgers were delicious, but be prepared to wait for as long as an hour to enjoy them. The burgers are made to order with tasty, fresh ingredients. The meat is juicy and the fries are crisp and hot. But during my visit, there were only two people behind the counter during a busy Saturday lunch hour. Folks were packed inside the small dining area and milling around outside waiting on their order. Lots of people (myself included) were visibly exasperated by the wait. I would visit Bunz Burgerz more often once the restaurant gets a better rhythm going behind the counter to speed up service. Until then, my visits will be few and during off-peak times.

I have been looking for a great burger place in Louisville and I have found it! My boys and I ordered a Baxter Avenue Bunz (fried egg, double burger, cheddar cheese, bacon, red onion and Bunz sauce), a Double with bacon and BBQ sauce and a single with cheese, an order of onion rings and a basket of cheesy bacon fries. The burgers were juicy and needed the roll of paper towels sitting on the table. The rings and fries were good too. We will definitely be back! I am still looking for a good juicy Lucy (burger stuffed with the cheese on the inside) down here since moving here from Minnesota. Maybe I will have to teach them how to make them. That would be my all-time favorite place then.

I first went to Bunz when I moved to Louisville in the fall. Since I was new to town, I asked my sister who has lived here for eight years to take me somewhere to eat that is unique to Louisville and is also delicious! So naturally the first thing she thought of was Bunz. When I got there and looked at the menu and saw the option of their sweet potato fries (which are killer) I knew that it was a perfect fit- Plus it's not expensive at all! I ordered and sat down to wait for my food to be ready, which did not take long at all. The burger I had was perfectly cooked and practically melted in my mouth. TWO THUMBS UP. The meat was so fresh tasting it was like the cow was being slaughtered in the back room. They close around 9 every night except Friday and Saturdays where they stay open for all the crazy bar goers around Bardstown/Baxter so thats a plus on those nights! The only thing that bring my rating down to a four is the lack of seating options, with only four or five small cocktail tables available on the inside, and two or three patio tables which are not accessible in the winter season. So let that be a warning to you guys that you may have to take it to go if you happen to arrive there at the peak burger time! So happy I discovered this great little place and would/have definitely recommended it to people looking for a quick bite to eat!

Similar to five guys. They have fresh ingredients and the burgers are made to order. Stick with reg fries, the bacon cheese are reg fries with maybe one slice of cheese and a half piece of bacon chopped. Not worth the price. young energetic staff, but limited seating. Open til' 2a.

This place was DELISH. Totally solid little burger spot. Burgers were big, juicy, fresh, grilled and tasty. I had a Bunz Burger with cheddar, swiss, tomato and avocado. Buns were grilled - heck yeah! Yum, yummy. My friend had mushrooms, something else gross I can't remember and pickles. But he LOVED it too. :) We shared a basket of Bacon Cheddar Fries. Greasy yet crispy perfection. Service was very nice but a little on the slow side, but nothing bad. I wouldn't go there if I was in a big hurry, but I rarely am. Tiny little spot so on a busy day it might be hard to find a spot. Overall, excellent and delicious. I will be back.

On friend rec, and the continuing search for the Ideal Burger, checked out Bunz, and it's a solid choice. Nice selection of "gourmet" combos (a little on the pricey side, imo) in addition to more traditional burger fare. excellent fries and their sweet potato fries have the distinction of not being the same sweet potato fries that most every other place that sells SPF sells. Also, the fries dipping sauce is most delicious, some sort of zingy pepper/mayonnaise combo. I do mildly contend that the bread situation isn't quite right; I got the smaller burger (one patty), and even dressed with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, I felt like it was kind of overwhelmed by the admittedly gorgeous bun. I ditched the bottom bun and ate it open-faced and it was delicous, if a bit challenging to balance.

If you're not too picky on your menu item, definitely check this place out. I've been twice, and both times they were out of some ingredients. But both times, the burgers were excellent. I think they get their name from the size of their roles. You can scoop out half of the bread and still enjoy your meal. Very friendly staff. A little warm inside, but probably typical for a July afternoon.

Greasy burgers, big wedge fries, and soft-drinks. Pretty tasty and they have a nice location where B-Town meets Baxter Ave. More of a late night grub spot than a sit-down place, although they do have some tables inside and outside.

It was okay, but we waited quite a bit. I'm glad we got it to-go because the restaurant wasn't appealing. There was posters everywhere and there was a weird smell in the place, like a household cleaner. The fries were terrible! Undone and nothing special. The only thing that didn't make me give it 1 star was the burgers. They were okay, a TON better than the fries. And I had a Groupon for this place. It was 20 dollars worth and the employee said that I could only spend 10 dollars today. So now I have to go back tomorrow. Probably not going back except to spend the rest of my Groupon.

We passed here with my wife completely randomly... We were on our way to Chicago and we just found the best little burger restaurant ever !! My wife is vegeterian and she got a veggie burger, according to her the best she ever ate. I got a regular burger and the meat was just so good, the bun ditto! I'm really happy we found that place, and next time i pass by Louisville, i will definitely go back there !! The Owner was really nice and friendly. I told him i would write about him, it took me a year but here it is, keep up the good work, your burgerZ are amazing !!

Went here after work hungry for a big, greasy burger. Being somewhat health conscious, I tried to keep it healthy by ordering bison meat. In the end, it's a burger with all the fixins plus fries and a coke - so in reality, what are you really saving? Anyway, I digress. The servers were very fun and sociable. Definitely service with a smile. That alone will guarantee at least a second visit! As for the bison Baxter burger, it wasn't the greatest, nor was it the worst I've had(I think it was partly due to the less fatty bison meat) and seemed a bit dry. I won't hold that against BUNZ, thats to be expected when you order lean meat. I guess the learning point for me here was to go all the way with the grease, or just go home! I'll make sure i do that on my second visit to even it out - after all, these 9 inch biceps don't grow themselves-they need massive amounts of calories! Haha! At least thats what i tell myself to justify it-damn new year resolutions...Although the meat was somewhat dry, the burger was very tasty nonetheless. Making it a meal with the bison addition added the total up to about 12 bucks. A little pricey for a simple burger, but it's utter size made up for it! Fries were good and the bun was high quality bread. The fried egg and bacon definitely makes the burger fun as well! If you really want to go the vegetarian route, bunz has you covered as well. Sorry, i'm a meat eater so can't vouch for the meatless patties. Anyway, small spot, but hip all around. Support your local businesses and check them out. Beats a trip to the typical McDonalds or bk by far!

Taste wise I give Bunz a thumb up, but quality wise I'm a little pissed because the sysco-tize everything and don't sell the burgers to order. Anyone who knows a fair amount about restaurants can tell you that Sysco tries to sell restaurants cheap food that also cuts corners to save time and money. Why can't bunz get local meat instead of sysco bison or sysco ground beef? or fresh cut their fries? It's disappointing but what can you expect in Louisville when it comes to few places offering a good burger.

Just back from a solid backpack training hike where we worked our appetites into a frenzy, we took a cue from friends who recommended this as a tasty burger place. Nothing like ten miles with 30 lbs on your back to prompt a craving for a meaty, cheesy burger. So glad we chose Bunz. Exactly what the tired dawgs ordered. I got the Highland Burger - an exotic combo of feta, fried capers and chopped olives on my patty. The meat was flavorful, bun perfectly steamed and grilled to perfection. Sweet potato fries on the side were crinkle cut, more than ample. My eating mate choose the Baxter Avenue Burgerz Signature item with double patty, cheddar, egg and bacon, red onion and bunz sauce. A hearty (but maybe not so heart-healthy choice) that was a gooey delight. The experience went something like this: bite, chew, swallow, smile. Repeat. We were expecting to be gut-busting full and needing to be rolled out the door, but it ended up being the perfect amount of food to satiate some uber hungry hikers.

Best fries! Best burgers! Great location! Fast service! Addicted! I work in the neighborhood and they are my go to every week. Milkshakes too!

Repeat. We were expecting to be gut-busting full and needing to be rolled out the door, but it ended up being the perfect amount of food to satiate some uber hungry hikers.

it was fast. That's was the best part of the experience. The burger is fried and definitely not high grade meat. The onion rings were burnt and I mean burnt. No ice cream for milkshake I think this place is designed for kids on a budget. It's far better than mcdonalds for 2x the cost and that is who they should be compared to

I came here for a great burger and that's exactly what I got! Whoever was the first person to put an egg on a burger is a genius. One of the reasons this place has such good burgers, is because of the fried egg. Also, the fries are what make the meal great. The workers are also very kind. All around a great spot to come to!

Its a must!

Perfection!

Completely unpretentious, completely delicious! Quality toppings. Great service. Basket of fries feeds 2-3.

I came here for a great burger and that's exactly what I got! Whoever was the first person to put an egg on a burger is a genius. One of the reasons this place has such good burgers, is because of the fried egg. Also, the fries are what make the meal great. The workers are also very kind. All around a great spot to come to!

  • Richard L.

Its a must!

  • Cyndi M.

it was fast. That's was the best part of the experience. The burger is fried and definitely not high grade meat. The onion rings were burnt and I mean burnt. No ice cream for milkshake I think this place is designed for kids on a budget. It's far better than mcdonalds for 2x the cost and that is who they should be compared to

  • Devan H.

    (4)

  • Ashlee C.

This place has some of the best fries in town, up there with Jack Fry's. Burgers are very good too, crispy, good texture. They have Hunts ketchup in packets, a plus. I heard ownership changed, food seems the same.

Hamburgers were great. Service was good. Fries come by the plenty. The burger was cooked quite well. I now have a burger place to hit up in that section of Louisville.

Best burger in town in my opinion. I personally like the blue state and the beer cheese burger. Fries are always on point and the bunz sauce is too good. Inside is kind of small, that's the only downside. I like the fact that they seem to let people tag the walls in the bathroom too.
