I speak from two dinners at the Blue Horse last year during Derby week. Friends from out of town made reservations at the restaurant, and I was obligated to join them. (They're no very adventurous.) Both nights, I had entrée salads, one with grilled chicken, the other with salmon. I have no complaints about the salads as they were very good, and large portions, with no skimping on ingredients. The service on the first night, however, was unimaginably poor. We waited for our meals for an hour, watching other diners who came in after us served their dinners. Finally, I got up from our table and went to find the manager. Dinner was free that night, with his apologies. On the second night, the service was excellent. I have to assume it's all in the wait staff for the evening.

Disappointing. Service was excruciatingly slow even though there were only a couple other parties in the restaurant. I had the lobster mac 'n cheese. Very ordinary and certainly not worth the price. There was a decent amount of lobster meat, but it was rubbery and tasteless. And I couldn't detect any truffle flavor from the truffle oil supposedly used in the dish. I also heard the waitress explaining to a party that came after me that they were out of the asparagus that went with one of the dishes they were ordering, and out of baked potato and something else for another dish. I suppose no less than what you'd expect from a hotel restaurant, I only went because it was about the only place still open and I was really hungry.

Nothing at all to speak of. The coffee is ok, but i had to ask for milk three times and each time for a refill. The buffet looked ok but the French toast was hard and stale while the egg omelet tasted and felt last key rubber, while the cheese inside was hardly inspiring. The fruit was ok, but didn't look especially fresh. When the waitress walked away grumbling after spilling some coffee I wiped it up with my napkin and the napkin came back filthy. The only time my waiter actually spoke to me was to ask how I would pay. If you're stuck inside the hotel because of the weather eat here... Otherwise avoid.

I stay at this hotel quite a bit and have eaten here numerous times for dinner in the bar. Salads are good. Remainder of menu is basically what you'd expect at a hotel. I'd give it 3 stars for dinner. Loses a star for breakfast. I eat simple breakfast, but getting service can be quite the prolonged fire drill.

Solid meal with a group of colleagues while in Louisville for work. Everyone was happy with the food.

They try hard but the food isn't great and it takes forever. And they are always out of Kentucky Bourbon Ale

Traveling on business and not looking for fast food. Not many options in area. This was pretty much it. Two hostesses had to finish their earthmoving conversation about their schedules before even saying hello. The Service was slow, food was Okay, price was average. Smelled like an old restaurant when you walk in. Had salmon. Not recommended.

Absolutely love this restaurant!! Everytime my family and I decide to come down to lousiville for a visit this is the main restaurant we hit first. Everyone is extremely friendly. One of the meals I'd have to recommend you try is their shrimp and grits. Its just ridiculously delicious.

I came from DC where everything is a bit more expensive. It seems like this restaurant is trying to be upscale without the upscale food. The side salad was made of lower grade greens and not the freshest. My entree was the scallop and shrimp pasta which had way too much cream sauce (think pasta soup). I would have rather had something off of the lunch menu, but those items are not available in the jazzier evening hours.

I had the New York Strip. Phenomenal, it was cooked to perfection. Very relaxed atmosphere.

Woops....hate to be down on a hotel's restaurant...because-what do you expect? It's a hotel restaurant! First, it's obvious that being employed in the service industry, at a large chain hotel, in a restaurant that people only go to because they....well, you know the rest. I feel for these folks, each time they came to my table and each time they were nowhere to be found. I world suggest an order station and a pick-up counter would make the dining experience much more enjoyable at this place. The food....I will try to be kind. Ordered Scallops and a Caesar Salad-cutting down on meat and on fish with teeth. Well, it was quite a tussle with the waiter to convince him that I did not want chicken on the salad. Battle finally won. Scallops-soggy, mushy, cold. Drowning in some kind of sweet Kentucky Bourbon sauce that you might overnight some bad pork with before you grill it a day later. Heck, why don't they just chicken-fry the scallops and at least make them interesting, and warm. Caesar Salad-dressing on the side. Never had a well prepared Caesar with a gravy bowl of dressing on the side. Okay, I can deal with that. Now for the kicker. The grilled toast with the salad. Didn't want meat, but got a steak with my toast! It was dripping with juices from obviously having been thrown on a grill soaked with fat drippings of 40 rib-eyes just cooked for the farm implement convention that was in the house. Other than waiting for my check for 20 minutes after I finished, it was a typical night out in a hotel restaurant.

Despite what may have been their best efforts, Blue Horse did not deliver. The prime location across from the expo center warrants a range in quality, but better options were not to be found. Although many tables were empty, we waited for 20 minutes while the host chattered. The breakfast buffet was encouraged, but had standard offerings. Portions were large. Servers were well intentioned, flexible with menu substitutions and eager to fill coffees.

We come here every year and stay at this hotel for a bird show across the street. Most of the people with the show hang out there. For some reason, the manager refuses to stay open after midnight. This year he was downright rude about it. Last night he even called the hotel security to throw everyone out. He was in such a rush, a few of us never got a chance to pay our tabs. No one was being disorderly. I don't care if you want to loose money but you bartender and servers got screwed out of their tips.

I take my mom here quite a bit. She loves it and I'm a fan as well. We've not tried the breakfast, but the lunch and dinner menus have something for everyone. If you're going for lunch, try the Cobb Salad (which has shrimp) or a burger (they're huge!). Also, their homemade chicken noodle soup is really delicious. Some choice dinner options are the shrimp and grits appetizer, some of the best pot roast I've had, and Cajun Blue (seafood pasta dish). Use restaurant.com for discounts here, too.

The worst service in the world! 15 minute wait to get your next beer. Do not go here!

Located inside Crowne Plaza, the Blue Horse is the very predictably-decorated restaurant that serves the usual - sandwiches, salads, soups, few poultry/seafood based main entrees. In terms of decor, it's really boring. In terms of the service, I would say it's pretty good. In terms of the food, it's pretty standard. One thing that caught me off-guard, though, was the Kentucky Hot Brown listed under their sandwich selection. The description says it has a blanket of cheese and I doubted - but my goodness! It was literally a blanket of cheese! (look at my pictures) Overall, it's fine - not too memorable.

I gave this rating because the service was awful! Yes. It was a volleyball tournament weekend but this place should be use to crowds as it is located across the street from the Expo Center. I was staying at the hotel and really had no other options. For dinner, Service was slow from the beginning. Waitress forgot drinks, took forever to take our order and was nowhere to be found when needed. I was even more disturbed by the many complaints from other tables. Unfortunately, because we were short on time, we needed to eat lunch here the following day on the go. I called to place a pick up order and was told it would be 20 minutes. I got there in 30 and still had to wait another 30 for my food along with other fed up customers who couldn't even get a waitress to come back with their change or credit card. Just a terrible experience. The hostesses kept apologizing saying its so bad because there is only one kitchen for the restaurant and room service. So? Anyway, food was average but will never go here again. Managers, please fix your service issues and consider installing a register at the front. The hostesses are sweating and stressed and I would be too dealing with customers who have valid concerns.

Wellllll. The food we got was pretty good. But we had several errors and issues from the start. Scallops were ordered as an appetizer and not received My husbands polish burger came with cold fries and lacking the cabbage and rice that was supposed to come with. By the time the replaced the fries the burger was cold. Management did not charge us for the items we did not receive but also charged us full price for all the other food. My husband got no food and no apology. I missed half of my meal as my appetizer did not come. My sons crab cakes were decent. My other son did not love his wings. Won't be back

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel restaurant. Prices are quite reasonable and the service was truly outstanding. I was a little disappointed they didn't have the breakfast bar. We added a little biscuits and gravy to our regular breakfast to taste everything. Food came out super fast and eggs were cooked correctly which is always a plus! We were staying at the Crown Plaza because of a canceled flight, but the extra night in KY and true KY service at this restaurant made it all worthwhile!

So much potential... The servers are positive and meticulous. Great job in that department. The atmosphere is also great. Good volume and selection for the music. The layout and decorations are nice too. The presentation of the food is also nice. However... taste is a let down. Its almost like the chefs don't taste anything. I have eaten here twice in the past two days ; prime rib one night and crab cakes tonight. The sauces are too potent and there's too much sauce. The rice was crunchy. The vegetable were off a bit. On a good not, the mashed potatoes were great. Change some things in the kitchen and I will come back. For now... I'll look elsewhere.

In the mood for something light? The Shrimp&Grits on the appetizer menu: Delicious! The sauce has just enough "kick"to make it interesting. Also...I highly recommend the Kentucky Bourbon Ale. Be careful tho., it's potent

The waitstaff is wonderfully friendly and helpful. Service is fast. I ate the shrimp and grits - made with cajun spices and cream, and grits with smoked cheese. It was so delicious I asked for the recipe and plan to make it as an appetizer for my Thanksgiving dinner. Prices are reasonable. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is pretty blah so that's why the rating isn't stellar. The food, however, is pretty darn good.

I may be slightly biased, as the only other meal I had in Louisville made me physically ill (Limestone. Just say no.) , but I really like Blue Horse. I was staying at the Louisville Crowne Plaza for a few days and I ate at Blue Horse for almost every meal. Their steak is great, they have a great bourbon and wine selection (btw, small batch bourbon is cheaper than wine out here), and their fish is cooked perfectly. I feel very lucky that this was the only hotel near me. I can't complain at all! If you sit in the bar, you have the full menu, plus the adorable wait staff. I highly recommend it.

This restaurant is located inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The food is out of this world! I had the crab cakes and they were phenominal. In fact, the beat anything that I have found on the east coast including in Maryland! My co-worker had the sea bass and she said it was awesome as well. We ate in the bar area on a slow night and the service was good. I am not sure about their restaurant servive, but I suspect you won't be dissapointed. I was truly blown away at the quality of the food served inside a hotel restaurant and for a reasonable price!

I just left the Blue Horse. The food was good and the service was excellent. I was in before the evening crowd so there were not too many people in the restaurant and it was quiet.

This fine establishment is attached to the Crown Plaza Hotel. It is an somewhat upscale steakhouse with a classic well lit dining room and a dimly lit lounge plastered with flat screen TVs on the walls and behind the bar. Naturally my choice is the dimly lit bastion of all that wet and intoxicating. I've eaten here several times and the food is decent. The wings are middle of the road, nothing stand out about the flavor or the heat that the menu so cavalierly claimed was spicy. Next up is the quesadilla; the menu says that it is a chef's special decided daily which at first sounds exciting but is in all probability not something special but whatever the kitchen has on hand. This appetizer was also middle of the road, not overly flavorful or innovative. Your standard chicken quesadilla. I washed both of these meals down with Sapphire gin and tonics all for a reasonable price considering the setting. The host staff was outstanding. They were friendly and helpful. The lounge staff however was a different story all together. Two out of three times of eating in the lounge the wait for food was over an hour which thankfully was briefed before taking my order. I attribute this to poor management and sought my dining entertainment elsewhere. I witnessed several unhappy patrons also being summarily ignored. I am not a business expert, however I believe that it is best to sell as much of your product as possible. Perhaps I am wrong in this matter. All in all 3/5 stars for setting, a strong host staff and decent food for a reasonable price.

Surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant. I have had lunch and breakfast here and everything I have tried is very good. One tiny complaint, the menu stated hashbrowns came with my eggs benedict and I got home fries instead, even after the waiter told me that hash browns were included. Not a big deal for me but you should definitely ask if you don't like home fries.

Discovered this place on Yelp while I was sitting in my hotel room across the street. Nice discovery! The I had a steak, which was enjoyable. Nothing to write home about, but got the job done for sure. Wasn't disappointed. I'm guessing in the neighborhood I was in, this was the best option. Besides the bowling alley next door.

Where to begin ? I am staying at the Marriott behind this Blue Horse and figured I'd just walk over and give this place a shot. Someone said the crab cakes were good so that's what I went with. I was disappointed in the lack of crab in the cake. A lot of old bay and filling and little crab. Speaking of little, I got like 4 potatoes on the side with my veggies. Just an 'ehh' rating from this guy

Yes, it is a restaurant in a hotel. Not just any hotel, but the one by the airport and Six Flags. Surprisingly the food was good and at reasonable price. They have a version of IHOP's pancakes from around the world but with hamburgers. I tried the Kentucky burger and it was correctly cooked to order.

Attending a conference at the hotel where Blue Horse is located. We had planned to skip the conference meal and eat nearby. Unfortunately there is not much nearby so we ate in this restaurant all weekend. For such a large hotel, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. The menu includes salads, hot sandwiches and entrees. The first night I ordered the French dip. It was mediocre. The meat was tender but the au jus was too light and watery. Good for the price though. The next evening I splurged and ordered the lobster mac and cheese. It was $20. It should be priced lower. Again, it was mediocre. Not real cheesy but flavorful. The green beans served with it were fresh and delicious.

Wow. Holy bad attitude Batman. The bartender ignored us most of the time, and only acknowledged our presence when we loudly flagged him down. In a crowded bar that would be normal, but we were one of only 2 tables. The bartender then asked us to cash out because they were changing shifts, so we were optimistic that things would improve. But the waitress who took over our table was even worse. Not happy, not friendly, seemed like she wanted nothing to do with us. Maybe we smelled bad. The Kentucky Bourbon Ale rocks, by the way. I don't recommend this establishment.

Second time here this year. Lunch was good and quick before. Dinner tonight very good started with fresh homemade chicken noodle soup which is always on menu. For hotel food, recommended, everything tried was good, traditional Louisville "Hot Brown" I have never cared for, but my friends tell me I'm missing out on this greasy Kentucky signature dish (toast, turkey breast, bacon, sautéed mushrooms covered in melted cheese sauce) Service at bar was excellent, prices OK. See menu in photos. If you're staying near airport and fairgrounds, this place is best I've found, much better than when part of Executive House. Now attached to Crowne Plaza.

Their shrimp and grits are as good as it gets! lot's of spicy cream sauce! I couldn't stop eating it. I'd recommend it to anyone near the louisville, ky airport.

I tried the Lobster Mac & Cheese which had won a 2012 local award for the best. It had some chunks of ham in it, and the lobster pieces were small but noticeable. Average to me, but probably good for this locale. The service was very impressive. Very attentive and polite.
