We had heard this place was amazing, one of the best. So far I predict that is correct for the neighborhood. We went with a group of six, getting teriyaki, hand rolls, regular rolls - crunchy, eel, salmon, and more. Everything was delicious. My husband and I have sampled some of the better sushi places in NYC and LA, and this seemed a good offering for the area - as usual, each place has their way of spicing things, nuanced differences in miso soups, etc. But this place was good. We'd definitely go back.

Good sushi and the gyoza were full of flavor. The waitress was surprised that I spoke some Japanese. She did not respond in kind so may be another region is her home? Not sure but the rice was kind of too sticky. But take this review for only so much because this girl lived in Iwakuni-shi, Japan for five years. So my partake on sushi will always be VERY TOUGH. Service was good. They did not have cold green tea either and all Japanese restaurants--true--offer both. Also, true Japanese restaurants offer steamed and fried gyoza. Again, I am tough. I tried the New Orleans roll and it was very good. The crawfish was ok but it was great to have a taste of home. I would go again and pay for my meal.

Best sushi in Louisville? I've heard a few call Asahi that and I don't know how I feel about that yet, but I do like that... -the menu lists the ingredients that are inside the roll and outside the roll -they always give you a freebie dessert (usually a half of an orange easily and fancily sliced for plucking out the pieces) -the interior is clean, in terms of both decor and sanitation -they offer 39 different specialty rolls and there's quite the variety of fish and both cooked and uncooked options I've had a mixed bag of experiences here over the last several months I've added Asahi into my rotation of sushi stops. During my most recent experience, I found the rice to be too dry and the taste of the rice to be a little too domineering. Overall, I think Wild Ginger has more creative rolls despite a much lower number of options. Prices at Asahi are on par with other places in town, about $9-14 for a specialty roll.

I am adding an extra star since I was told to not base my review only on lunch experiences but to try going at dinner. I've been to dinner there twice and there were different servers. It's night and day compared to the experience we had at two different lunches. We also found that the quality was better at night.

The experience- good- great service, a complimentary dessert, good location... etc. The food-- mediocre- since Louisville's sushi scene has grown a whole lot in the past few years, my taste for sushi has become much more particular. The rice was sort of dry which really hurts the taste for me, and it just wasn't anything special. It was good, as most sushi is, but there was nothing that makes me want to go back as opposed to a list of others around Louisville. So yes, go there, eat sushi, and have a nice meal. However, I would recommend many other places ahead of Asahi.

A great little place with good service and very good sushi. The interior is nice and not distracting. It's not really designed for long evening over dinner, but that's fine. The service has always been prompt and good. The food (I'm usually there for the sushi so have not varied off of this into other parts of the menu) is well prepared.

Best sushi in Louisville, and I've tried them all. I wouldn't go here for anything other than sushi, because their other entrees leave much to be desired. But if you want really good sushi, then Asahi rocks.

Pretty good sushi, but not the best I have had in Louisville. Bill for 3 people was almost $100 and I didn't even find a roll that would make be come back. Service was good, very quick and friendly. None of the rolls really jumped off the menu and said order this amazing roll. We got three all of which were ok, the best was the roll with mango and some other fruit. Not a bad place for sushi, but I would like to try others instead of going back.

Good sushi as long as you are getting something with fish. The vegetable rolls are abysmal. The are basically just rice with a tiny sliver of vegetable in the middle. I would suggest getting the veggie tempura instead.

Nice place. First thing is that you should do is watch your seating. There is a front and a back door and no breeze shield at the door. It can get coooold in there no matter where you sit. I heard this is the best sushi in Louisville. Well, I hope it's not the best. It's good but not great by any means, and is more expensive than most places (not a lot, about $1 more per roll). The tuna rolls were tiny and the california rolls were loosely packed. I really wasn't too impressed with the tempura shrimp rolls either. Maybe I'm spoiled by other places, but the people that whine that Indianapolis doesn't have good sushi have never been to Louisville. One item that shined and deserves 6 stars are the goyzu dumplings. They are perfectly light and I could eat them all day. I might give this place another try but its not a place that I will go out of my way for unless I get a dumpling craving. The service was fantastic, but no hot waitresses!

Hands down the BEST sushi in Louisville! Affordable, great sushi, nice atmosphere, and great staff! I bring all my business lunch meetings here! Try the Volcano roll! YUM!

Cute decor. Attentive servers. I had edamame and a cucumber roll - both of which I enjoyed, but neither of which is particularly indicative of the quality of the sushi. The Kentucky roll was super good though - very fresh, nicely presented and HUGE. I thought the orange halves for dessert were a nice touch. They did not, however, stop us from walking down the block to the Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen after dinner.

My favorite sushi in Louisville. Very affordable and consistent quality. Try the tempura sweet potato rolls...bomb!

An excellent sushi place... if rumor is to be believed - the main chef who started up maido's is who started asahi. Regardless, this is where we go if we want reliably excellent sushi on a moderate budget.

I go to this place about twice a month, and I can't get enough of it. They have many varieties of sushi, and at a similar, if not lower, price as/than many other Sushi and Japanese restaurants. If you have a large group, the will serve your sushi orders in a large (three feet long, one or two high) wooden ship. Also, complimentary dessert of sliced oranges after meal Definitely try it out. About 10 to 15 dollars for me per visit.

2 1/2 stars. Average sushi of hit-or-miss freshness for more than we like to pay for average sushi.

I have had a lot of sushi in a lot of places but this sushi is consistently outstanding. The prices are very reasonable the quality is easily the best in the city. I love coming here and the servers are very polite and helpful!

This was a restaurant with great ambiance and amazing sushi. I HIGHLY recommend the Lotus Roll. I ordered that along with the Firecracker roll and Asparagus Roll. The service was great, prices were fair however I got food poisoning from the Asparagus Roll along with my friend who tried it because I asked if she wanted one. My two other friends part of my table did not get food poisoning and continued to enjoy their meal. If it wasn't for the food poisoning I would give this place five stars. I still suggest the Lotus Roll:-)

Traditional sushi fare, sometimes with very little fluorish, in a nice open decor. Service here was lightning fast on our visit October 17, 2008.

I flew in town for business and was looking to find a good sushi place. After seeing a few reviews of Asahi, I drove the 15 miles to test it out. Well worth the trip. I ordered the Alaska, Crunch Munch, and Aloha rolls and all were fantastic

Fantastic sushi at a great price. If you don't feel like paying the high prices of Saporo but still want some of the flair, check out Asahi. Good blend of traditional and contemporary style sushi.

Best sushi in town at a resonable price. Sapporo better watch out!

The service was the best I have ever had a sushi restaurant. The Las Vegas roll was good but not super flavorful. I also had the monster roll which was delicious. The ginger dressing on the house was some of the best I have ever had! Down fall to this place is you smell like fired food when you leave.

Asahi is one of the best sushi restaurants in Louisville. After moving from New York, I thought it would be difficult to find a place for my sushi fix (which is typically 1-2 times a week) and Asahi does it very well. Prices are fair, portions are average, and the service is very consistent. I also find their appetizer section to be of better quality than other Japanese restaurants in Louisville.
