especially considering what is around, I am happy to suggest Cancun. The chips and salsa are great. The food is an average size, but above-average taste. It's tasty and authentic-feeling. And, over-all, if you're in the Hopkinsville/Ft. Campbell area, please eat here. You'll be happy and full.

Great food and even faster service. My husband and I ordered burritos, both were really good. Kids got cheese quesadilla's with rice and beans and scarfed them down rather quickly. While waiting the waiter brought us chips and salsa and before we ran out there was more on the table. Friendly staff and great prices. We will be going back in the near future! Yummy!!

Not original Mexican food by any means, really bad costumer service. But if you want authentic Mexican food I wouldn't recommend this place. The only good thing about this place is the salsa.

The food was not that bad. It was the service that ruined the experience for me. The waitress got our orders wrong, and ignored our requests for side items. She made me several bits of upset, but one of her coworkers was awesome enough to cover for her shorcomings in one fell swoop. He's awesome. I probably won't be back, though. It isn't worth the risk of getting asigned to that one waitress again.

Went here last week while on a long layover at the Holiday Inn. We were without transportation so our dining was limited to those places we could walk to. 6 of us scored one of the big round corner tables. Our super waiter graciously split our checks & kept everything straight. Nice cold frosty Dos Equis on HH. :) I had an enchilada burrito combo that was good but did not come with rice & beans. Everyone liked their food except one person who had a chile relleno that was cold.

The food is alright. They ran out of horchata and that was a big bummer for me. Overall, the restaurant looks very traditional.

I have eaten at the Cancun for over 8 years and its always really good. Large portions, hot, and I find it more authentic than the other local Mexican places. Its sorta "divey" but clean. Great prices! The parking can get a little tight at peak times, but its not anything major. Would have given 5 stars if the guacamole was made in house. It seems to be "Syco-ish" if ya'know what I mean! This place should really consider (for the price they already charge for the guacamole) making it table side with fresh avocados at least at dinner time.....it would help them stand out! I'd buy it! Something to think about Cancun....wink wink!!! *The poblano peppers are exceptionally great!*

My son and I recently were looking for dinner while in Hopkinsville. Since we are originally from California, the review that said they were also from California and liked the food here caught our eye. The food was great and so was the service. I had the Jalesco Special was delicious, with enough for a full meal the next day which was still delicious. The prices were also very good, and we would come here again!

My husband is from southern California and it's been almost impossible to find a good mexican restaurant. This place however has by far the tastiest salsa and homemade tortilla chips, excellent margaritas (2 for 1 happy hour 2-6), & their Jalesco Special is out of this world. For someone that prefers Japanese food over anything else, I'm officially a fan of their food. Their service is quick, efficient, and welcoming. On a busy day, you can get in and out in under 45 minutes. Something I've never had happen! I will miss this place when we leave :( cancun always in our hearts!

Fair warning: I love, love Mexican food...so I can be critical if it's not up to my standards. Also note this is not real Mexican food, but American Mexican food. Authentic Mexican food is a LOT different than what you find at Mexican restaurants in the US. SET-UP/DECOR: I don't like their parking lot. It feels cramped. Not your typical cheesy Mexican decor. The booths are in an arch with mock villa awnings over them. Definitely different and much more professional, inviting than a bunch of sticky booths with last year's Cinco De Mayo banner tacked on the wall. Women's bathrooms were tiny but fairly clean. MENU: Your usual specials complete with helpful pictures. Happy Hour starts at 3 and ends at 9, unlike Mexican restaurants have it start at 2 and end say at 6. I believe it's daily and not just certain days of the week. What I really liked about their menu was they didn't have that section of combination dinners. Instead they have a pick 2 for $7.99 or pick 3 for $8.99. Which you can pick whatever you want on your plate and finish it all, instead of having something you really didn't want. FOOD: A small thing of chips, about half of the normal restaurants, which can be good and bad. Good, because I tend to overindulge in the chips if I'm starving and barely eat my meal. Bad, if you also order cheese dip run out out of chips and can't find your server. Salsa was good, but a little watery than I liked. Cheese dip was great with just the right amount of heat. My margarita tasted pretty good. In fact, they over poured and I was feeling a bit good in the parking lot. Husband had the steak burrito and said it was pretty good. I ate a taco, enchilada, rice, and beans. Started off with the enchilada that was drenched in delicious red sauce. For some reason the beans tasted a little smokey. Odd. I sampled my beans and it held the same smokey flavor. Then there was some surprise chilies in there which I wasn't too keen on. Next, I tried the rice which I actually liked. I've had better, but I give it a fair rating. Corn taco was a bit dry and they skimped on the white cheese. SERVICE: Our waiter was polite and checked on us a few times. Although, he did leave me with an empty drink and no chips for a while. He looked at my ID a little longer than usual when carding for alcohol. Which shows they don't serve the below 21 crowd, like Mexican restaurants are notorious for. Our food came out fairly fast and hot. Those signs that warn you the plates are hot, aren't joking. PRICE: About average as it should be with other Mexican restaurants. Although I didn't think my mediocre plate was worth $7.99, more like $6.00. ----------------FINAL THOUGHTS-------------- Since this was our first Mexican restaurant outing and I wasn't impressed with the food, we're going to explore other places around the area.

Cheese dip was good, once we got it after the server forgot about it. The salsa and chips were good, and the food was sub par. Had to ask a couple of times for my check. If service was better, would give it 3-4 stars.

Service was so-so, bathrooms were disgusting, and the food didn't make up for any of it. They also had some loud and incredibly rude patrons spewing pretty nasty language. We had our young children and politely asked if the patrons could censor the language a bit.. They just went off on us and cussed us out in front of the kids. Management did nothing so it's obviously not a family oriented place.

I am a big critic of mexican food. In Hopkinsville all of the mexian resturants have exactly the same food and menu. I've heard a rumor that they all use to work at El Bracero and openned resturants of their own. What makes Cancun's stand out to me is the atomosphere, and service. The service is fast, friendly and courteous. The atomosphere is more authentic than the other resturants in the area. When I lived there, we would go probably twice a month. Definately my favorite!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
