I coach a roller derby league in Topeka, and we had all of our 2013 bout after parties here. The servers and bartenders are awesome and very accommodating. Food is tasty and the craft beer selection is good.

I've been here two times. The most recent time was after a KU game, on a Friday night. Shockingly, less than half of the bar was filled. I really expected there to be a bigger crowd, since this is located on what could be considered the "nicer" side of Topeka. I figured it would be attracting more adults, not quite wanting to be in the university bar atmosphere. Anyway - The special that we went for was $2.50 Jack and anything. Let me tell you.. They over-pour like nobody's business!!! After about four of those, my fiance and I were both pretty plastered. Even through our drunkenness we were able to tell that the appetizer sampler that we ordered was less than special. For the price, we hardly got anything and the items were all heavily deep fried. The staff was quick and helpful but I am afraid it's not enough for us to want to keep going back.

This is one of those reviews where I feel the need to say something nice before I completely lose people in a sea of negativity. So here we go. The place is clean enough and for Topeka you can tell the owners spent some time and money planning out some of the different aspects of this bar. The outdoor patio area is nice and has big garage doors that open. In the summer this would be pretty cool. The seating area is small but I've not seen it full recently. As far as the negatives, there many. The staff was okay, but usually were busy fawning over the few obvious regulars (read friends) to care about us. Second, for being a bar, I had my first three drink ideas shot down because of a lack of ingredients. Third, the food was terrible. I ordered the appetizer sampler and all it did was show me their entire appetizer selection is terrible. I could have got the same thing out of the frozen food Isle at Dillons. At least if I had the food would have been THOROUGHLY COOKED. Fourth, the bar staff has no clue how to bartend. The bartender was pouring doubles (triples? Quadruples?) into my glasses all night. And while this makes for a cheap date night, the drinks were terrible. Keep in mind this place sits right outside of some seriously wealthy subdivisions. From what I saw inside they were attracting none of them. The name tailgaters is just a name. Nothing in this place screams tailgating to me. Not the food, not the specialty drinks and most certainly not the television arrangements.

Ive been here a few times for taco tuesday. Depending on what time you go, you might wait a long time for a table and service can be painfully slow. The tacos are ok... nothing special. Their drinks are good but pricey. A generic margarita was $4 something and a lot of their shots are $4.50. I'd rather go to a bar or mexican restaurant in town for good food and cheaper drinks. Bottom line... Nothing special to make it worth the trip.
