Amazing food, amazing service. I was organizing a banquet from out of town and had never tasted their food before. They were very responsive and gave me a choice of menus to fit my budget. The night of the event they were on time and ready to serve. The food was plentiful and delicious. I particularly recommend the Caesar salad and hand breaded honey / pecan glazed chicken. WOW.

Who doesn't love Dairy Queen? Really - the stuff is fantastic. This particular location is walk-up with a couple of outdoor tables in a cute little landscaped corner. It has a laundry mat behind it and a Subway across the street. And, Washburn's campus is a few blocks to the east. They offer only the "treats" side of their menu - no burgers, etc. at this location. We usually go to the North store more often, out of convenience, but I think I like this one better! There really wasn't much of a line but they opened up another window and started serving our of both of them, which was really nice and unexpected. Our order was served up lickety split and was perfect in appearance and taste. Further, there was no stinky trash can emitting sour milk smells - which can often be found at outdoor ice cream shops. It was well lit (we went in the evening) and overall a very pleasant experience.

My husband and I only WISH that Spangles Headquarters would put a restaurant in KC! Every time we drive through Topeka - we both already know, we're definitely stopping at Spangles for a burger! They have incredible prices and delicious, fresh burgers! The employees have always been very nice and attentive. Keep up the great work!

They've remodeled this location and it's clean and efficient. We stopped in for a fast dinner before a scheduled activity one evening and they had a 2-six inch subs with chips and drink for $10 deal going. It was a perfect meal for the occasion. They were busy the entire time we were there - and I can see why at that price! Where else can you get a meal like that for under $15 anymore?

One of the best kept secrets west of Topeka! How did it take nearly 2 years to hear about this gem?? We went over for the 1st/3rd Friday night chicken dinner buffet. Fried chicken, potatoes & gravy, vegetable, mini-salad bar, roll, and dessert. Yum, yum. Dinner starts at 5 pm...but traditionally folks are waiting at their tables for the food to come out at 5 pm....so no need to arrive until 5:30 for the next seating round. There is definitely a "culture" to the regulars. Parking is a premium and there of plenty of signs to tell you where not to park. The place is bigger inside...so don't let the cars scare you away. (And really...would you leave after driving all that way?) You'll be seated at a table that many include additional seats....which may already be filled or will be filled later. The food isn't served family-style...but you are eating family-style. We enjoyed our conversation with our table-mates. You get your plate and head through the line. All-you-can-eat...and sometimes you want to pop up there for a fresh batch of chicken or rolls....so don't fill up on the first trip through. That night, we had an incredible, super large homemade cookie and chocolate/vanilla swirl ice cream delivered to the table. Our recommending-neighbor bragged so much about the coconut cream pie that I got a slice to go for later in the weekend. It was just as tasty the next week. There are different buffet specials on the Friday nights: fried chicken, chicken-fried steak, pork chops, or fish on the 5th Friday. Look online for the specifics. Worth the country drive!!

G’s Frozen Custard & Yogurt

1301 SW 6th Ave
Topeka, 66606
Reviews:
So I drove by this place for years after we moved to town thinking "Custard?!? BARF!" Well, I was ignorant. One day, a thankful customer of mine asked if she could bring me, "some cheese." She had previously told me about how she smokes Gouda and other yummy stuff in her grill/smoker thing, so I thanked her and said, "sure!" I was surprised when she was back in just 15 minutes with a little styrofoam cup and asked if I like chocolate....I mean, she lives like, 20 minutes away or something--what, did she keep cheese in her trunk? Wait...did she just say, "chocolate?" So she actually asked if she could bring me, "some G's." So the spoon on the styrofoam cup made sense and then my inner face melted. I'dn't tasted such a rich yummy cold dairy treat in my life! AND I grew up in Pittsburg where PICCO (Pittsburg Ice Cream COmpany) taught my tasters that the stuff in the store freezer can only be so good. Ice Cream, Frozen Yoghurt, Ice Milk, Gelato, Frozen Custard...they're each different. What's absolutely different and better about G's than all the other frozen custard shops in town is the quality. There are several--perhaps dozens--of products available from dairies which get turned into this cold stuff we love to eat. G's gets the very highest quality available--the others just...don't. It costs a touch more, but you can taste it and it's totally worth it!
I love G's! It's a classic frozen custard spot. It clearly has a lot of history and local love. You can sit outside on a nice day if you have a large party or stay cool inside at one of the smaller tables. Best chocolate malt I've ever had.
G's is so yum! They always have fresh cones. The custard is always just right, not to hard, not too soft. My favorite is brown bread and I love when they have no bake cookie.

Monsoon Grill

Reviews:
On our recent trip to Topeka, my husband and I had a wonderful lunch at Monsoon Grill. While neither of us prefers buffets, we decided it would be the easiest way to sample a variety of their dishes and we're really glad we did! It was all absolutely fantastic. I can safely say this is the best Indian food I've ever had, as usually there are just one or two things that wow me at an Indian restaurant and I was wowed by every single item I tried at Monsoon Grill. The dal was blowing my mind here. Their kheer was the meal's shining star though -- so often it's powdery and tastes like it came from a mix (I can do that myself at home with ease!) and theirs was so creamy and amazing, nothing like the others. Nice small salad bar available as well, and I loved the way they kept the entrees, rice, and naan hot inside chafing dishes rather than an open air buffet. The price was a bit higher than expected for lunch but given the comfortable, spotless dining room, attentive staff, and high quality food, it was WELL worth the price.
Very excited to have another Indian place in town. Great food, decent prices, and friendly service. Ordered the saag paneer with garlic naan and a pint of Taj Mahal lager. Portions are generous and I got to take home leftovers because I couldn't finish it all.
First trip to Monsoon tonight and everything was wonderful! All the food was very flavorful and the medium spice level was just right. The entire staff was so charming, helpful, and attentive. Our server John was great!

Rowhouse Restaurant

Reviews:
Went here on Saturday with mother in law and husband. Ambience was nice but stairs going downstairs were very steep. They say dressy attire but we saw several people with jeans on. Food was just average. Beef was tough. French onion soup was a very small amount (maybe 1/4 cup), not beefy tasting, very little onion and a crouton on top...was not good. Cauliflower taco was tasteless and kind of gross, did not finish. The desserts were best part of whole meal and I am not a big dessert fan. They are very tight with their portions. I understand that it is suppose to be a fancy restaurant with small tastings but they could give you a little larger amounts. The $37 a plate they charge is ridiculous. They were trying to be upscale and fancy but they quite didn't hit the mark with us. Will not be going back and just stay home and grill Hy-vee's Amana filet mignons. Much better and cheaper. We were greatly disappointed with the food after all the fantastic reviews here on yelp. Do not understand why people say it is fantastic food. Also, there ARE better restaurants within 100 miles.
Amazing experience! For the value, I don't have anything to compare it to. Excellent!!!!!
What a nice surprise! One menu with 6 courses and wine pairings. Fantastic experience for anyone looking for real food prepared by a real chef. Beautiful little garden out back. Perfect place for a couple looking for a romantic treat. Top chef lovers delight. Exactly what I was looking for to liven up my business trip.

Lonnie Q’s BBQ

Reviews:
Best Barbeque we've ever had! The only downsides where the limited hours they are open and how long we had to wait in line to get our food. But, oh was it worth it! The owner greeted everyone when opening and made sure to check on all the tables. We tried a little bit of everything and each thing was great. The turkey with spicy BBQ sauce was my favorite and the cheesy tators are to die for. Don't miss out and be sure to check this place out!
First priority if you want to eat here is get here EARLY. When I say early I mean before they open because you will stand in line waiting with 10-30 people even when u are early. The options are small but all are good. This place is only open for lunch and Friday dinner. We had a full slap of baby back ribs. The meat fell off the bone and had good flavor. Also had a brisket sandwich with 2 sides. The amount of brisket that you get is insane. The amount can easily make 2 sandwiches,..but from other sources that is what Lonnies hangs his hat on...portion and flavorful meats. The platters also comes with 2 pickle spears. We had cheesy taters and baked beans. Must get side is the cheesy taters. Again the portion size is huge. The beans were good, could taste the spices and all the home made goodness. I wasn't a fan of BBQ sauces. They offer a mild original and a hot. They had ok flavor however very runny..we are use to thick BBQ sauce that hangs on the meat. This sauce was more marinate type.
We've heard the legends about this place, and they are all TRUE. Yes, get there early for Friday dinner to be one of the first "seatings" in the door once they open. We got there 30 minutes ahead of time and that was perfect for us. Service is slow once the doors open, but worth the wait. We got 2 sets of ribs to share, a serving of the famous cheesy potatoes, and a few of the men got the "bowls". Our new friends in the waiting line always get the turkey...and after a sample, I can see why. Once you get inside, don't worry about saving seats. That doesn't work with the customer flow. There will be seats once you get your food. Order double and take some home for the weekend!!
