I have been a customer of the Pad for over 40 years, dating back to when it was a walkup drivein with a picnictable in front! Nothing has really changed on the menu, still one of the best hamburgers in the midwest I highly recommend ghe JBC burger and a chocolate shake, my usual and don't forget the half price burgers on Monday! A must try for a great meal! Pork tenderloin are to die for ad well. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Great spot for traditional burgers, fries and shakes. This place has a lot of local color and charm. It's been busy every time I've gone which stands as a testament to the kind of food they provide.

I'll admit, I went to the Pad while having intense cravings for greasy goodness that's really just bad for you... But didn't want a chain restaurant burger. I just so happened to be in North Topeka and see this place with hardly one parking spot available. One would think with SO many vehicles present, that this place must be pretty awesome. I went the "safe" route and got a 1/4lb cheeseburger (deluxe style which means it has lettuce, mayo, tomato, pickle, diced onions, etc.), an order of curly fries and medium DP. I noticed the cheese balls on the menu and had to give those a go as well. Sigh. I wish I could say more about this place. Perhaps the huge CO2 truck in the parking lot should have indicated that I could have avoided getting soda, as mine was completely flat. The fries are literally Ore-Ida frozen curly fries that may have been fried and covered in copious amounts of salt. The burger was OK. It satisfied my desire for the burger craving, but I had to remove the tomato because it was oddly squishy and.... just strange. As for those cheese balls - Well, I'm finding it hard to describe those. I *think* they were cheddar cheese.... Perhaps rolled in batter and fried? They were grainy. Strange. I just wasn't sure about those. Ranch dressing greatly improved the quality but that doesn't say much with all the MSG included. :-p I wish I could say more about this place, because I'm pretty sure that my fiance (who grew up in Topeka) has raved about this place and their burgers. I'll just have to find other places to distract him with in the future.

I really enjoy this place. Ample seating, quick service, and tasty food. You can't go wrong if you order the pad burger. The fries are good too.

One of my favorite spots in North Topeka! It's fast food with out all the commercialism we have come to know! I love their home town pride that is displayed everywhere!

The Pad has been around for eons. They've tried to expand and open up in other locations but have pulled their resources back in to just their North Topeka location. I've been many times over the years - I work just up the street, but I can't say I'm a huge fan. There's nothing that spectacular about it... except the cute sign and that they are a local Topeka landmark - everyone knows about The Pad. I tend to visit when someone else wants to go and rarely on my own unless I'm craving a quick burger at lunch. I figure if I'm going to eat it, it's better to give my money to them, than to any of the chain restaurants along the strip there. The salad bar has a nice selection and I've heard the Chicken Noodle soup is to die for. Everything on it was fresh and tasty the time I tried it. Usually, I just get a 1/4 lb burger and a small frosty. And sometimes, just the burger and a beverage - that's usually enough to tame my hunger till dinnertime. My mother likes the frosty and curly fries - yes, together. Something about sweet and salty. The pies are okay, though again, nothing I'd go back specifically to get. So, they're okay, they serve a good burger and salad, and the service is pleasant. The atmosphere provides sufficient lighting and it's clean. They are a local business - and I'd rather give my money to these guys than the corporate guys down the street, but there ARE better burgers in Topeka. Just poke around in my reviews if you're interested in them.

Have a defibrillator close by. Really bad for you, but really good. The classic catch 22. I think... Anyway, this place hasn't changed in 30 years and that's part of its charm. Good food, reasonable price- a Topeka staple. If there is such a thing.

I grew up with awesome place located in NorthTopeka. I'm a sucker for the original Pad Burger, 1/4 burger with shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, mayo, and toasted bun. Amazing taste. Locally owned and operated. Don't forget the curly fries

We were in town Visiting and went to The Pad, this place has one of the best, freshest Cheeseburgers I've ever eaten! I'm going back before we leave.

The Pad is one of those places that's been around forever. Its your basic hamburger and french fries short-order place. Although the food is pricey, it was decent too. Expect to spend about $7/person, but the hamburgers are worth it at least. PS: Avoid the fish meal. Its some weird mystery fish patty deep fried.

Great burgers, great prices, and wonderful service. Go here for lunch at least once a month and you can get in and out in less than 30 minutes. My only complaint would be that they don't have jalapenos to put on the burgers. :( But they are still delicous without them.

When Ray Kroc was still selling milkshake machines to the McDonald brothers, Whitey Mentzer was selling hamburgers to North Topekans. The rocket marquee that marked The Pad Carryout on N Topeka Boulevard predated all the golden arches in Topeka and continues to mark the location where the third generation of Mentzers is still selling hamburgers to hungry diners. While The Pad today is an eat-in restaurant with a full menu of bunned sandwiches, along with a well-stocked salad and soup bar, the crown jewel of the menu remains the hamburger. The Pad's burgers don't arrive in corporate semis as frozen machine-made patties in cellophane sleeves. Each hamburger is hand-formed and hits the grill as fresh ground beef. Before there were uniform combo meals sold by the billions at drive-throughs all over the world, there was - and still is - The Pad offering its juicy homemade burgers of 100% American beef, where quality is measured by the number of napkins it takes to wipe off your face, hands and elbows after the last bite. The JBC "with everything" is the quintessential American burger.

Great local landmark! Order the rocket meal (cheeseburger, fries, and drink for about $6).

The burgers are pretty darn good. Also had a pork tenderlion sandwich but it was flat and dry, also 3 times bigger than the bun.

Although it has been around a while- it is still one of the best places to get a burger! Pad burger is our favorite. Also one of the few salad bars in town

Typically, local landmarks like this are either completely overhyped or, and this obviously the ideal, they actually live up to their reputation. Well, unfortunately for The Pad, it tends towards the former. The burgers are decent, don't get me wrong, but they are not the best in Topeka. Hell, they probably aren't the best on Topeka. Mine was pretty dried out with the scantiest piece of cheese on it, but it tasted alright for its lack of aesthetic appeal (and the rest of my group seemed to receive fresher burgers). It was spiced and dressed well, I'll give it that. The fries were tasty, and I was downright impressed by the chicken strips and the salad bar. This is the kind of place I'll have to try again. The food seems promising, and I feel like my dried out burger may have been a fluke. Or it may have been the result of parking their patties underneath a heat lamp for too long. At this point, I can't tell.

How can a greasy burger and a hot dog taste so bad? That's pretty difficult to mess up. Every time I've stepped into this place I've felt like I was stuck in the 70s, except there weren't obese people in the 70s.
