I heard of an all you can eat sushi restaurant so I came here with my boyfriend. We each ordered the all you can eat, ordered appetizers, such as soup, crab Rangoon, tuna tartar, tuna tataki, shumai, yellowtail with jalapeño, grilled squid, bubble tea. All I can say is the tartar was decent and the bubble tea delicious, but everything else was absolutely terrible! I kept ordering more appetizers hoping something would turn out good! I just ended up wasting more money ($100 without tip) and being severely disappointed. We ordered four rolls total, spicy octopus and mango roll are a couple I remember but we ate one piece of each and we both wanted to spit it all out. It was pretty much 99% disgusting sauce, a lot of filler and barely any fish. Now I know why it's all you can eat. A lot of people seem to enjoy it and if you like Americanized Sushi - all sauce, you will too. All the appetizers were very bland and the rolls, like I said, are atrocious. It also upset me when the server stated she did us "a favor" by not up charging us for not eating our sushi!! Yea, sure, thanks, but..... Excuse me? I pretty much just shelled out $50 for four rolls - refused to order more on the all you can eat, I knew about the up charge for discarded rolls, but him and I started off with two each and stated we did not care for it but would still pay - including pay for YOUR mistake earlier (noted at the end of my review) and you want to charge us extra for this disgusting thing on a plate? I understood if we kept ordering a ton, not eating, but two each??? We paid MORE then what they were worth outside the all you can eat deal! This place is a joke. The only good thing our server did was mess up one of our orders, giving us the wrong appetizer which turned out decent, everything else I ate one piece (that I spit out into a napkin) and trashed the rest. I still paid for everything and tipped 20% because I won't be "that guy." But I won't be back. I pretty much just had an expensive taste tasting. So disappointed.

This place is excellent for Lunch. You can order up to 3 specialty rolls for under $11 at lunch! It even comes with Crab Rangoon and Miso Soup! Even if you're not so keen on sushi, other entrees include teriyaki, udon, donburi and general tsao's chicken! Great value! -1 only because I'm not that big of a fan of tempura sushi.

Tried this place yesterday with my wife and another couple. Saw the all u can eat for 22. The only thing is, whatever u have leftover they charge u for. So our waitress was very friendly and told us what we could do. She we can order from the menu. If we get close to the all u can eat price, we can do that. So we did and just ate more. Food was excellent!! Lots of choices to chose from. This is my third time eating sushi and I am very picky on taste. I also believe that this place is better than the Drunken Fish. Highly recommend. Will be back. Prob do their lunch special as well.

Dude! This place is for real! $20 all you can eat sushi? I'm in on this joint and was surprised at the amount I could stuff in my pie hole. But why wouldn't you for $20 freakin' dollars! It was a busy Friday Night (2/28/14) and they were slammed, but it didn't matter because it was worth the wait. Personally, I don't want any of you to go there because it may keep me from what I crave, but if you do go, Sushi Mido will not disappoint. Keep it Comin'!

Sushi Mido is my absolute favorite sushi restaurant in Kansas City (so far). Every time I venture out to try something new, I always compare it to Mido, and nothing quite holds a candle. This is partially due to my *favorite roll of all time* the Dinosaur Roll: spicy crab meat, avocado & cream cheese deep fried and topped with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and aioli. Oh my gosh. It is seriously one of the best things I have ever tasted, and I stuff my face every single time I come here because I can't leave 1 single piece. I know some wouldn't base their opinion off of a *gasp* FRIED roll, but I can vouch that every roll I've had here is near perfect in both taste and presentation. You wouldn't think so from the outside of the building, but these folks know how to roll. Ha. The other reason I love Mido so much is because they have an All You Can Eat option for $19.95 that is SO incredibly worth it. For starters you have the choice of crab rangoon or edamame and then ginger salad or soup. I always order crab rangoon with hot and sour soup and they are both delicious. But don't fill yourself up yet because you have lots of sushi coming. With most placing charging $8-$15 for one roll, even if you were to only eat a single roll with the appetizers the all you can eat price is worth it. In my case though, I'm married to a behemoth who can down at least 5 rolls by himself so the $19.95 price is not just a deal, it's downright lucrative. Be aware though, you're not allowed to take any home, and if your eyes are bigger than your stomach and you leave a lot on the plate they will charge you 50 cents apiece. No need to worry though because you can just order a second round if your first choices aren't enough. If you have never tried Sushi Mido, DO IT!!!

John is usually our server. Food is always amazing. Top sushi restaurant in KC for the price. I've never had bad service here. I've never had a bad roll either. $21.99 all you can eat rolls.

Wow... This place ROCKS! I was never a fan of sushi until I went to Sushi Mido. I could handle the different types of fish, it was the nori I don't care for. When we went in, I asked if they had any rolls that were not in nori and they showed me several and explained that for fifty cents more any regular roll the chef would be happy to replace with soy paper! Oh happy day! Our favorites are the Hawaii, explosion and dinosaur rolls. You really must try the pink lady for dessert. My family loves this restaurant so much my eight year old daughter requests it and states it is her favorite place. Well played, Sushi Mido... Well played.

Lunch Special. Awesome deal. You can't eat sushi this cheap anywhere lunch special. We have been here many times. We usually get the same waiter...he is the shift lead dude...very nice. Sushi quality is very good. Location will fool you as it is kind of in the hood...next to some shady apartments...but rent is cheap which makes food cheaper. Diamond in the Rough is a good name for it.

This has been my favorite sushi place since I discovered sushi about a year ago. Love love love it. I keep coming back here because it's just so amazing. I would have easily given it 5 stars except for 2 major things... 1) They just upped the price of the AYCE. Now it's 21.99 instead of 19.95. Sad face. 2) I keep getting this guy server who will not greet me, won't ASK me what I want to drink (I guess I'm just supposed to assume that's what he's there for when he comes over and awkwardly visits my table) and is very slow to give me any service. I sat here for 20 minutes this time before I even got my Crab Rangoon and Egg Drop Soup... And I was still slurping away at my soup when my sushi arrived at the table. I specifically remember having this same guy last time and having my tea glass sit empty for almost the entire time I was there and finally being refilled only once. I love this place, I really do. I hate that the price went up, again, 21.99 now, but as a whole, this place is great. My favorite roll is the Lobster Roll and the Pink Lady. And their crab Rangoon is unlike any in the city. I dont care for sweetened crab rangoon so theirs is perfect. The egg drop soup is like every where else, but their wontons for it are always stale. :/ If they would serve the brothy soup like Japanese steakhouses have, Id be in heaven here.

This is truly the best place I've ever been to experience sushi. It may be a bit pricey, but once you've figured what you would have paid it is a heck of a deal. Take it from me try new things....my favs are maui mido, red dragon, volcano, catepiller, nieman...that right there would equal up to $40, but they have a great deal and its all u can eat for $18.95. So worth it!! They've added KC Chiefs to the menu...probably my all time favorite roll (wish they would have named something else)

Sushi rolls are fresh and delicious. Our favorite rolls are dinosaur and samurai! Service is slow but most the time worth it.

This place is FANTASTIC! The first time i came here was for lunch on a Saturday. I did the All-you-can-eat sushi for 19.99! That way i could taste different rolls and find my favorite. (just remember you have to eat all the rolls you order or they charge you for it seperately from 19.99) The service was great our waiter was really nice and attentive. And every time I've had take out the person helping me had been really friendly and nice. They have an amazing lunch special, which is what i usually get, it includes soup, 2 crab rangoon and three sushi rolls for $12 (with tax)! They have really good rolls on their specials too which is great. I have eaten sushi at three other places in KC and this is hands down my favorite! My favorite sushi rolls - Dynamite, KC, Midnight Fantasy (not included in lunch special :( ) Defiantly work checking out! Best sushi in KC!

I dont typically leave reviews since Im not hard to please. Ill start by saying the food IS good. HOWEVER, the wait/customer service is absolutely horrendous. We did the "all you can eat" sushi and ended up spending 2.5+ hrs there. It seems they are under staffed and dont have enough people making the sushi. The pop was flat & the cash register made a continuous beeping noise that made you want to kill yourself. If you have an entire evening to waste and really enjoy staring at your date for 3 hrs this would be the place for you

I have seen this place and was a little skeptical, but it was outstanding. I am a sushi lover and can say that this place has amazing sushi. The ambiance is so warm and inviting and the music playlist was incredible (the shins, gotye, and some local artists). We went on a weeknight when it wasn't very busy and everything was still incredibly fresh. Beautiful presentation and helpful server. Andrew made recommendations and did everything he could to go out of his way so that we made the best decisions possible. Great wine and food specials. I will definitely be back and will spread the word! The only downside, in my opinion, was that most of the rolls included tempura or deep fried pieces and I prefer all raw. They were more than accommodating and will make what you ask for so it's not really a concern, just personal preference.

In short, I was pretty impressed with Sushi Mido. I recently moved to the outskirts of KC from Southern California. one of the first things i did was begin looking for a go-to sushi place with decent sushi. After reading several reviews I came across Sushi Mido and decided to give them a try! We got there shortly before the dinner rush, and were ready to dig into some sushi. Although service was a little slow to begin with, as the dinner crowd began to swarm the restaurant, service perked up. Between the two of us, we shared 10 rolls :) and each were delicious! We wanted to enjoy at least 7 to "break even"/ make the all-you-can-eat price worth it. THis wasn't too difficult as my bf and i love sushi! The rolls we enjoyed were: Spicy Crunch Tunna Roll Spicy Crunch Salmon Roll x 2 Rainbow Roll Spicy Girl Roll Ahi tuna crunch roll Salmon katsu roll Snow white Sunrise roll As you can tell we really like the spicy rolls! THese rolls were pretty good , the only down-side was that their tempura crunch was (although quite the art as it was colored red) a bit stale. With the all-you can eat, you also get a choice of crab rangoon or edamame and ginger dressing salad or soup (hot & sour egg drop or miso). I chose edamame and the miso soup. My bf chose the ginger dressing salad and miso soup. We both enjoyed the miso soup, and their ginger dressing was really good (I stole his cucumbers). I was also glad to find that they make good edamame, i hate going to sushi and getting cold or salt-less edamame. Their edamame is served warm and topped with sea salt! All-in-all I will probably be back sometime soon :) Oh, also keep in mind their parking lot is tight-fitting. If you have a large car, such as the truck that almost couldn't get out, you may have to have someone help you park and unpark :P Although it did provide a fun show to all the diners watching! :)

3.5 stars... This place is pretty decent, and very affordable. What's with yummy sushi places popping up in the middle of JoCo? While Mido lacks the atmosphere of Kona or Ra (which is a good thing, to me) it is laid back, clean and comfortable. The "buffet" is really all you can eat sushi. I have tried several rolls, some of them are really good, however, it seemed like the majority were fried, or had a fried component. I tried the salmon sashimi, (half price when you order the buffet), and it was really fresh and delighful. I think they have the service kinks worked out, as the times i have been there, the service has been quick and efficient. My only small complaint is that each roll or order should come out with it's own wasabi and ginger. We had to ask for both several times, as if the plates weren't dressed properly. Overall, a good fix to get your sushi fix, even on a budget.

I had lunch with some co-workers at Sushi Mido and I was pleasantly surprised. It's nice to see a sushi place in this area with good decor and food. They offer vegetarian sushi which contains a variety of ingredients. I'm looking forward to trying more of the bubble teas on my next visits!

First of all the service is outstanding! I've had a few different servers, but Emily is just great. She is very helpful and explains what each roll is. (actually all the servers do) But she is just really patient with newbie sushi explorers. I've eaten there in a group, alone, and with just one other person. Each time I've ordered the all you can eat sushi and it is made fresh to order. I like that when eating in a large group, you can choose to have it served family style. Whereas each person pays the AYCE price and everyone orders a roll so that the whole table can share. This gives a chance to really taste all different kinds of rolls. Their selection is huge! So many wonderful sushi rolls to choose from. I've had (on several different occasions.. not all on one visit!): Tornado Roll Spicy Tuna Roll Spider Roll Spider-Man Roll Alaska Roll Rainbow Roll Spicy Crunch Tuna Roll Yellowtail & Scallion Roll Dragon Roll Tiger Roll Snow White Mango Roll Sunrise Roll Caterpillar Roll Midnight Fantasy The crab rangoon is really good and so is the ginger dressing salad. The edamame is perfect and just the right amount of salt. I would recommend Sushi Mido to anyone looking for good sushi and a really great deal with either the lunch special or the AYCE for $19.95.

I'm Asian and I'm very pickey about sushi places in the mid-west. My friends and I found this place on Nieman Road and the only reason we decided to try it was for the all you can eat. Advice to you, if you want to do the all you can eat, go with a group of four or more people so that you can get your bang for the buck and order different rolls. I don't recommend the all you can eat with only two people, it will be cheaper to just order off the menu, unless your are one of those that can eat four rolls at a time. The service was as expected, not super great, but good enough for a place like this. I don't understand the other reviews that expect this 5 star service from a all you can eat place, get over yourselfs. Your being served by people that make about 3 dollars and hour and get about an average of 5 dollars a tip from their table section in which averages about 45 mins taking the space. Overall, the service was well enough from us humble people that has worked in this type of business. The look of the place is nice, I really don't care much about the looks when it comes to the food. The food: They serve the regular type of pre order of soup, in which soup is soup. The main course or the sushi. Hands down, the best in Kansas City. I eat at other places that are expensive and the only thing that makes the food taste better is the surroundings, but at Sushi Mido, the food is what makes the place. For the price you pay, you can't beat it. My friends and I always come here and we have brought many people here to just see the surprise on their face as they eat the food. Five stars for the taste of the food for the price.

Most of the sushi on their all you can eat menu has fake crab. Even the Philadelphia roll lacks raw fish, which is extremely uncommon. The all you can eat option also lacks any nigiri which is a major downer. If you want "Average" sushi, you want to steer clear of this place. However if you are trying to get someone into sushi, it's a great first sushi experience as (like I mentioned before) there's not much raw fish). This is really a place you want to go if you want to eat rolls till they are coming out of your ears. Otherwise, you are better served by Sushi Gin or Sakura.

I love this place and the food was supurb and the price right, but, the parking, there's no excuse for having as much trouble as we had, in finding a parking place. I'll probably look for another place but I sure did enjoy what I had there. When you have to worry about where your car is parked, it puts a big dent in the enjoyment factor. Our server was excellent even though she appeared to be stretched too thinly.

This place is bomb. I've only gone for the all you can eat, but let me tell ya... The fact that it is your mission to eat up to the bill you pay is always a fun challenge! The price is decent, usually costs about the same as other all you can eat sushi joints, but they're sushi is definitely catered well to the American taste. Which is okay, some people like that some people don't. If you want real sushi at the all you can eat, you better pay for some straight up sashimi or Edo style sushi instead and I honestly don't know how good those are. Their fried sushi items are great and I really REALLY liked their lobster roll. Their spicy tuna/salmon were not bad either. Again it's the quantity vs quality and there was a good balance. The atmosphere is lively and slightly intimate. The only downside was that it took FOREVER some rounds to get sushi. They were just so busy with other people's orders, but the longest wait was probably lyrics 15-20 min at one point around 7pm

Visited Sushi Mido with my brother while we were passing through KC. Not a bad place. The sushi was overall good. The all-you-can-eat is a good deal if you can eat at least 4 rolls; otherwise, it's a not such a good deal. The desert roll isn't very good. I'd pass it up. The service was slow, but that worked out in our favor because by the time the next roll came, we were already hungry for it.

Sushi Mido, fame seems to have gone to your head. It's been a while, I know, but this does not justify your two roll lunch special increasing in price. Also, the maki rolls just were not flavorful and they were smaller. Service was great, so two stars for that. I will give you another try, but the price was not due to an "off" day. I had my dear sushi-loving friend meet me here to celebrate her birthday, and I was a little embarrassed, as you did not live up to the bragging she had heard from me. Her beef and broccoli was tough and the crab stick was imitation. Yikes! Have you heard of Sushi Uni? They are closer to me.

The wife and I stopped in for some local sushi on a Friday night before the rush, got a seat in the corner and ordered a large spread as it had been a few months since I got to indulge in sushi. The dressing on the salad is as good as any that serve the soy ginger. But who cares, what's the sushi like? It's pretty fantastic! An amazing spread cost 55ish, that's crazy. If I had my druthers with sushi I prefer nigiri or sashimi but I get why they don't do that. The rolls fall apart pretty easily but I can also dismiss that as they bust out some serious food pretty quick and it looks very appetizing. If I want a volume spread of sushi I will stop in here anytime.

The restaurant hours are open until 9:30 pm on Sunday. Made a 20 minute drive from Overland Park arriving there at 8:54. Sadly my children and I were turned away at the door because they apparently do last call at 8:45 to begin preparing for close 45 mins later. I was annoyed to say the least seeing as how I had just driven quite a ways to indulge in their sushi and I wasn't even offered the option to order takeout. I checked there website along with yelp and there is nothing stating they do a "last call for sushi" 45 mins before closing time anywhere. So, fair warning that if you plan to make the trip, don't try and cut it close because they could care less about good customer service. They just wanna be sure they can get everyone out as close to closing time. I guess their motto should be "You don't have to go home but you can't stay here!".

Snow White roll was REALLY good... had some sashimi - also solid although it took a while to get. Seaweed salad was awesome and a large portion. Will definitely return!

ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI!!!!! :) Not just any all-you-can-eat sushi either. At Sushi Mido, the endless sushi isnt sitting around at a bar to pick and choose from. You actually get your sushi rolls made to order. We tried several kinds of saki and enjoyed every single roll that we ordered. The service was spot on and I enjoyed the company of my dining companions. After tip, my bill came to about $25. But when you get to pick as many rolls off the menu as you would like, I'd say that it's worth it!

This place looked a little concerning from the outside but when my husband and I walked in we were pleasantly surprised. It's very clean and classy inside. We did the all you can eat, and we're glad we did. For $22 you can get as much as you want (you have to pay $.50 for every piece you don't finish) and also two appetizers. There are like 30 rolls to choose from, which is by far the biggest "all you can eat" menu I've seen! :) Service was great and so was the food! Loved the dynamite roll, and the wonder women!! Definitely will be returning!

Sushi Mido is Kansas City's best kept secret in sushi! The food is outstanding and to die for! Their best rolls are the Mango, Volcano, Spider-Man and Las Vegas!! Your flavor palette will be satisfied and the staff are extremely energetic and are really good at recommending both raw and cooked rolls. Definitely coming back for more rounds!!!

Good sushi takes time. If you're looking for a swanky, overpriced Japanese/American sushi, this is not your place. Sushi Mido takes care to ensure you're getting the freshest and best market picks daily of fish. I've never been disappointed in the food and the wait staff is all very friendly. Their hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had!

  • Janet P.

We came here on a Sunday night and they were short one sushi chef making it a one and a half hour wait for sushi! We had time so whatever, we stayed. We did the AYCE sushi and really enjoyed the large variety of sushi available to choose from. When the sushi did finally arrive it was pretty lackluster and some rolls were not good at all. I did not enjoy the Wonder Woman or the Samurai but had to eat them so we wouldn't be charged .75 cents per piece lol. Some of the maki was missing ingredients also. Only the Dessert roll was memorable, everything else was substandard. Perhaps it's because they were rushed to keep up with all the tables. The missing chef quit recently because it was too fast paced for him afterall....AYCE was not worth it.

Decent sushi for a good price. The soup & salad were both pretty boring -- miso was kind of tasteless, salad was just plain lettuce with a few sad carrot strips & a radish circle, doused in a generic ginger dressing -- but the fish was fresh & the rolls were well-made. Service seemed a little disjointed, but was friendly enough. I don't have the appetite for all-you-can-eat, but if you do, it's a great value.

Went to Sushi Mido for my birthday recently. Have been on the lookout for a decent Cali style AYCE sushi joint and I think this is definitely going to be it. Great food, great selection, fun servers. Only complaint was the sashimi is not included in the price of the AYCE. Ohhhh, the crab wontons are on point, could go for a whole plate of them *drools*

The servers were awesome. If you like all you can eat sushi ut is pretty tasty. If you prefer sashimi or individual pieces of sushi, it can get expensive fast. If you like rolls with lots of textures ans sauces, this place is for you. I had a good time at sushi mido. My rating would be higher if the "all you can eat" price included the bottom half of the menu. As decent as it was, the wait times were excessive. We waited 50 minutes for our order. In their defense, they were super busy.

My favorite thing about my birthday is stuffing my face, and eating sushi. So the perfect option was all-you-can-eat sushi! I took a risk coming here (my first time), but I am really glad I did! I got a recommendation from a friend and decided to give it a go. It was delicious and we definitely got our money's worth. I made reservations for 10 people on a Tuesday evening at 6pm. Everyone got the all-you-can-eat sushi option and came hungry. Our server explained the procedure, and our first order was a variety of 18 rolls. Everything came out relatively quickly and everything was delicious. I would say I am non-discriminatory with my sushi, as long as the fish is fresh enough. I can tell when sushi is high quality, but I will eat all types of sushi. On this visit, we got a lot of cooked and/or deep-fried rolls (which I tend to do at these types of places). Many of the rolls were comparatively large. One thing I noticed was the fish-to-rice ratio was really good. Another all-you-can-eat sushi place in my previous residence loaded the rolls with rice to try to fill people up. Sushi Mido did not do this. The raw fish was also fresh enough -- did not notice any weirdness in the flavors. One roll we first got was described as "atomically hot", but was really not that spicy. The flavors were good, but I would not describe them as "bold" or "distinct". The group ravenously ate the first order and put in a second, then a third. We ordered about 30 rolls total and ate everything. I expected to be there 3 hours with such a large group, but we got in and out in 2. I would say that is really fast service, considering our large group and the fact that the restaurant was pretty packed halfway through our visit. If I remember correctly, the all-you-can-eat price is now $26.95 (the website says 23.95). My friend told me that 5 years ago the price was $15.95. I hope the price does not go up again. I think the current price is OK, but if it continues to rise I will have to consider other options. I was very pleased with my visit and will definitely visit again.

This was our first time to the Restaurant and I was highly disappointed. The food was OK but nothing to brag about. The waiter was different but did take care of us in a timely matter. I have read tons of reviews on how great this place was that we drove all the way from Olathe away from our local sushi spot to try it. I personally won't be back. In my opinion there is a ton of better sushi locations.

Innovative and beautiful cuisine by Raymon. Superior service by foodie/sushi enthusiast John. I am in from NYC and had a better experience here than most places in Manhattan. The fish is fresh and the presentation is worth eating out for. My mama who hates sushi was able to find new things that she liked as well as be pleased by her go to naughty delight: crab Rangoon. Great wine list as well! My faves? Tuna tartare topped with a quail egg and the kani suno mono! I'll be back tomorrow!!

Solid sushi! (Considering we're in Kansas). They make the dressing in house (it's like crack, yo). My server was superb. The food is very good. A good option when you need a sushi fix.

My family loves sushi, so what better way to celebrate my little Brother's 16th birthday than at an All you can eat Sushi place! Made reservations for 7:30pm on a Thursday night, but ended up being late by 15-20min. Luckily, they were accomadating and nice enough to hold our party's table of 9 people! Great first impression of their service! Sushi Mido has a great menu and I highly recommend doing the All You Can Eat made to order Sushi for only $19.95! Great price, depending on how much you love sushi! You start off with getting a 2-item combo of either soup (egg drop, miso, or ho & sour), crabrangoon, and/ or edamame with house salad. Egg drop soup was pretty good and the house salad had a good ginger dressing. They give you a paper menu of the list of sushi that they offer and boy do they offer a ton! The list satisfies all your sushi cravings from raw/undercooked to deep fried in tempura rolls. As do all other sushi joints, they have clever names for all their sushi, luckily our server was kind enough to rattle off all the ingredients in each one and also very helpful in finding a sushi that our whole party would like. We basically ended up having such a wide variety that it looked like a sushi buffet on our table! I love how they make it fresh to order! You definitely have to prepare yourself to be there for about 2 hours if you want to get super full especially if you have a big group! Even though it was a Thursday night, it was still packed. They closeat 10pm, but they were super nice and didn't rush us out! I didn't realize that we had ordered more sushi at about 9:40pm, but they still came out with our orders without any signs of annoyance unlike other restaurants that would've been itching to get rid of customers by their closing time! Honorable mentions: *Wonder Woman Roll- raw snapper on top was delicious! *Volcano Roll- 8 rolls in a circle with a huge topping of crab drenched in spicy mayo! Yum! I love how the topping that covered the middle was hot! *Eel & Avocado- it was fresh and the eel was crispy! *Las Vegas Roll- you can never go wrong with deep fried sushi in tempura :) Winner of the Night: ***PINK LADY ROLL!- I've never had a dessert sushi roll before and man was this an amazing first for me! It's like the vegas roll in which it is deep fried in tempura, but the inside had strawberries and other berries....and....it had hot chocolate drizzled on top and around. YOU'VE GOT TO TRY IT! Check out the picture I posted here...drool worthy pictures. (If it's your birthday, they give you and 8-roll order for free!) Bottom line, if you love sushi...and can eat a crap load of it, then get your bum over to Sushi Mido and walk the stairway to Sushi Heaven :) Happy Eating!

I'll never go back. Our waiter was rude and condescending. He actually rolled his eyes when we asked how the all you can eat worked. We put two marks next to a roll to get started. When he came to the table and picked up our order he said, "Realy? 11 rolls?" when we explain to him that it was two ...2 rolls he just stood there. We said we'd start over. He slammed his hand down on our ticket, wadded it up and walked away. We walked out and won't be returning.

Had a great time there for dinner. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Our water glasses were never empty. The pink lady roll was an excellent recommendation to end our meal. It is a delightful desert roll with just the right amount of sweet.

The food we ordered was delicious! Our server Ashley was the best. Totally talked me through my fear of sushi and fishiness. I always get weird about it even though it's yummy. Oh and the ginger salad dressing is phenomenal! I will eat there again just for the salad seriously so good. The only thing about this that threw me off was they offered "all you can eat" for $22 a person but then charges you for uneaten sushi and won't let you take any of it with you. We opted not to risk being charged for uneaten food we couldn't take with us that we paid nearly $50 for. I think they do it to avoid wasted fish and stuff but the policy should be revised somehow. We ordered 4 rolls. A salad. And crab rangoon. Every last bite was eaten and with no regrets! We will definitely be back I highly recommend trying this place. It's always fun to try a sushi place out. I recommend it over Sakura as it is cleaner and more updated and the fish tastes more fresh.

GREAT sushi! Went here last night with friends, ordered five types of sushi and they all came out very quickly and were delicious. The service was also great, as our drinks were refilled without asking. They also have an all you can eat sushi option which was around 23 dollars per person which seams like a good deal! This is now one of my favorite sushi spots in KC!

Had a blast at SushiMido. Our server was very friendly and cracked some legitimately funny jokes. Love the all you can eat deal. When it comes to appetizers I recommend the grilled squid. Good variety of sake and a fun clean atmosphere.

Amazing! Unlimited sushi for $20 and it came with a crab Rangoon and egg drop soup, both of which were actually pretty good. They weren't the best I've ever had but still worth getting for $20. I've been to all you can eat sushi before and it's typically not been that great but this was noticeably better. The taste was good, a few of the rolls had a little too much extra stuff on them such that it was hard to identify the flavor of the fish but it was still surprisingly good. I would comment on the individual rolls but I ate about half the menu... It was all good. Though the eel wasn't as good as I'm used to having. Also the hot sake wasn't that great but the cold peach flavored one tasted pretty good. Now the service, they didn't seem to be very busy so that might have helped. They were really good, stuck around just long enough to make sure we were doing alright and didn't hover over us. Another great thing about the service, our cups were never empty. All in all, I definitely want to go again.

Having traveled from California to Kansas where I honestly never expect to find anything close to what I enjoy in California, Amazed am I now by Sushi Mido. I have been to Drunken, Kobe, Nikko's, Sakura, and many more during my trips out to Kansas. In the end I am still most impressed with Sushi Mido. My favorite Sushi in California may been neck - neck with Sushi Mido... -if you are ever in Monterey, Ca you must give Harumi Sushi a try. You will be in Love... So, Sushi Mido... While I am back in California, I will look forward to my next trip to Kansas. My top picks: Snow White Roll, Wonder Woman Roll and Mido Maki Thank you Andrew for such excellent service.

It was a Friday night during Lent season.....so of course my party and I expected it to be a packed house and it most definitely was! We went later expecting the crowd to die down a bit, nope the party was still going on strong! Came in around 8:30. Got seated around 9 which we didn't mind. The 30min wait was not as bad as we thought. They had a good system down to keep things flowing. Did the all you can eat sushi (ALL rolls only, but with half price sashimi) for $21.99, totally a steal!! Not only did it include all rolls but it also comes with your choice of 2 of the following: crab rangoons, edamame, salad, or soups. Say wahhh?! Two? We ordered a total of 10 rolls (6 first then 4 later) and shared it between 3 people, yes we're fat asses and yes we finished it ALL, to avoid a waste of food and $$ they charge $0.50 for any piece left over and it's a negative on to go boxes. But in our defense we wanted to make the $21.99 worth it, and by ordering 2 rolls per person that was $20 in itself...so we had to go all out.. I don't even remember what we ordered but a few of my favorites are Midnight Fantasy Roll and the Lobster Roll packed with major flavor! Their was 1 roll that did sit too well with me and that was because it was ridiculously spicy, the Tornado Roll. Our server did warn us about it but we weren't sure what he meant until we all had a bite. The spicy kick creped up to us and bam! Just like that our water glasses were empty within seconds. The wait time for sushi was no more than 10 minutes. Impressed by that, they really know what they're doing considering the all you can eat sushi is every day. Service was superb! At least our server was. He was attentive, apologized that our appetizers came out a bit later than usual and offered new ones if they were cold (and they weren't by the way). He listed every roll that came out and even brought 1 sushi back to the chefs because he noticed something was missing and had them put it on...talk about great service! For sure dining here in the future! They have a variety of rolls that will cater to anyones' sushi palette!

So yummy! Can hardly get enough of the samurai roll-- came back second Saturday in a row to have it again. Paired with the seaweed salad I am in heaven. Boyfriend also likes the ginger salad and hot and sour soup. Wonder Woman roll super good, too. Added bonus is having the Royals playing and winning :-). Waitress Amanda is worth asking for when you are seated .

A solid 3 stars from me. We were glad we arrived when we did to grab the last table for two. By the time we left the front area was crowded with people waiting for a table. I am actually glad we didn't get the all you can eat. I didn't come to eat the extras...crab rangoon or edamame or soup or salad (which come with the all you eat). I wanted sushi! We ordered the volcano roll, sakura roll, rainbow roll, tuna sashimi and scallop sashimi. All were pretty good and standard rolls. The lone stand out was the tuna sashimi. It had a great, fresh flavor. If I wasn't on the verge of a sushi overload I would have ordered another order of the tuna. It was that good. I appreciated the server who asked several times if we were sure we didn't want an appetizer because so many large parties had ordered before us. Nope! Just want to fill my belly with the sushi - thanks though! I would definitely go again especially for lunch; which includes Saturday. The lunch pricing for the amount of food seems to be spot on (1, 2 or 3 rolls with the extras mentioned above in a reasonable price range). I would also go with a group. It seems like the way to go for pricing with a lot of people.

Incredibly friendly staff and fresh sushi, it's a pretty awesome place. From the outside you don't expect much, it's on an unassuming strip of Nieman Road in northern Jo Co but once inside, you'll get it. For around $22 it's all you can eat (or you can order individual rolls and other Japanese entrees). Be careful as you order, you'll be charged for leftovers as a way to minimize waste. The all you can eat also includes an appetizer (crab rangoon or steamed edamame) and soup (choose from egg drop, miso, and hot and sour). Everything I had was fresh, well seasoned and delivered in a timely manner. The only issue our table of 5 had was getting water refills from our busy server (eating all of that soy sauce makes you thirsty!) but we eventually just asked for a pitcher and that solved the problem. Give Sushi Mido a shot and prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

After living in the Seattle area for several years, we're always trying to find a sushi place that meets the same standards as our favorite place up there. Thankfully, after years of searching, I believe we may have found it! First impressions do NOT do this place justice. Small shack, cheesy ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT sign, and resides in front of a skeezy looking apartment building. Massive downpour and high humidity gave the parking lot and entrance a musty-mildew smell...but once you get beyond those elements, this place is a gem! Decor was tasteful and asian inspired. Sushi chefs are all in uniform "Sushi Mido" shirts and busily preparing edible art for the many patrons within. Jessica was our server, and she was phenomenal! Our drinks never reached the halfway mark, she was wonderfully attentive, and top-rate "old school" service; we loved her! THE FOOD: Delicious! We chose the All-You-Can-Eat special for $20 per person, which started off with a choice of Edamame or Crab Rangoon (Rangoon was amazing!), and a choice of 3 soups or a salad. All sushi rolls were included in all-you-can-eat, with a 50 cent charge, per piece, for anything that was not consumed at the end (so don't be wasteful, or let your eyes get hungrier than your stomach!) There are appetizers and sashimi that are also available for HALF price, if sushi rolls are not enough, or more variety is prefered. We consumed 7 rolls and left absolutely sated! Our experience was fantastic, and well worth the hour drive! We would absolutely return to Sushi Mido for our next sushi craving! :)

CRAZY, CONTROLLING OWNER! My friend took me out for birthday lunch to this place for the all you can eat sushi! We were so excited because this place has decent reviews. We arrived, was seated right away and started to figure out the all you can eat menu. the waitress was polite and nice and brought our drinks right away. My friend and i were hungry, and the menu looked good with many options. we read all the instructions in the menu and decided to try variety of rolls. when we handed in the order, the waitress was politely reminding us that each unfinished roll will be charged 50 cents. we smiled and told her that we read the "Caution". So our appetizer came shortly after we ordered and then followed by our orders, which was a full plate of sushi rolls. presentation of the rolls, nicely done! So, then we started our adventure of eating the rolls. first bite of one of the tempura rolls was a little too sweet to our taste. essentially tasted like sweet potatoes. then we continued on the other rolls. Some of them are decent, nice flavor and taste fresh! and some not so great, big roll of rice with full of cream cheese. we ordered 2 different rolls with soybean wrap thinking that there would be no rice because when we ordered at RA SUSHI, the soybean paper wrap was very good. Unfortunately, the rolls with soybean paper wrap, not exactly what we had expected. In addition, full of cream cheese that overpowering the taste of the whole roll. My friend and I were enjoying our lunch despite some of the rolls weren't the greatest. we only ordered one time, plate full of rolls. we were taking time to eat, enjoying each other company, catching up over boat load of sushi.Time went by quick and I started to notice that the owner paced back and forth and continued looking at our table with unfriendly manner. The waitress came and checked on us several time, she was nice and pleasant. We got some rolls left on the plate, happened to be the least favorite rolls that we didn't find good and fresh, and too much fillers like cream cheese than fish or tempura, keep in mind, we read the descriptions prior ordering. we started to pick parts of the rolls that we could eat. Unfortunately, we found a piece of hair twisting in one of the roll. we didn't make big fush about it. we just put it aside and continue eating. when the waitress came to our table, we informed her nicely and she apologized and took the plate away. I also gave my plate away and asked for a new plate because my it was full of stuff that I didn't like such as jalapeno, some rice, and huge chunk of cream cheese. Waitress continued to be nice and agreed to bring me and my friend new plates. when the waitress left, the owner who was looking at our table the whole time, came to our table and YELLED AT US, telling us why not eat everything on the plate and ACCUSED US PUTTING THE HAIR on the sushi, so we could throw away some of the rolls and would not pay for the unfinished rolls. we still got few rolls left on the plate when she came to yell at us. My friend was so angry and confronted her that how dare she accused us putting the hair on sushi. Why on earth would we do that! We can afford the food! The owner told us that we have been seating there for 4 hours, which was not true! That escalated the situation and made me angry and told her politely that "you don't tell me what to eat. I will pay the unfinished rolls, don't teach me about wasting food, because I know what that means. I put aside parts of the rolls that I didn't like and could not even keep them down. My friend who was already angry told the waitress what had happened with the owner. The waitress apologized about it and we told her not her fault and we ready to leave just need the bill. The waitress was nice and smart enough to take initiative and offered free drinks which we didn't expect that and just ready to pay and get the heck out. We paid the bills including the unfinished rolls and tip the waitress 20% of the bill. we left unhappy because of the service from the owner. we started with happy mood, enjoyed catching up and left angry. This would be my first and last time to come to this restaurant! FOR YOU OUT THERE, GOOD LUCK! IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME,MAKE SURE ASK, IF YOU COULD GET HALF ORDER ON EACH ROLL YOU THINK IS GOOD!

Love, love, love this place! I simply cannot praise it enough. Great service and great tasting sushi. They also have great prices! All you can eat sushi (not a buffet style) for only $20. Wish I lived closer so I could eat here all the time! Did I mention they have a huge selection of rolls and will do custom orders? Yeah!!! I dream about coming back and eating here!

We went for all you can eat sushi. Service was slow but the sushi was pretty good, especially for it being all you can eat. I'd love to try it again on a slower night to see if that makes a difference on service

I've been to Sushi Mido twice now and I kinda sorta like it. Ok, here's the big plus: very affordable sushi. You can order as much as you like (rolls only) for about 18 bucks a person. Heck, at some sushi restaurants, there are individual rolls that cost that much or more. So a person can go there, eat sushi for a reasonable price and leave with a full and happy tummy. Yay for that. They also provide a salad and some crab rangoon with the meal, but those are pretty skip-able. The service is a bit off at times. The first time I went, it was flat out slow and they brought the wrong rolls. We ate what they brought, anyway, and ordered more. The second time I went, the service was faster, but they still brought a wrong roll once. I figure, when it's all you can eat, no harm, no foul, right? They'll just bring you more. I don't think anyone should go here and expect to get exactly what they want when they want it. This is a place that requires a bit of patience, but you'll be rewarded with pretty decent sushi at an incredibly reasonable price. I love going to Eddokko, but moving forward, I will probably go to Sushi Mido more frequently because it's so affordable.

If you were looking for great sushi in Kansas City, I kinda doubt you would look on Nieman Road in the heart of Shawnee. That would be a sad mistake on your part. This Shawnee gal has seen mediocre food sold from this location for years, so when the signs went up on this building for a sushi restaurant, I wasn't optimistic. Considering the other sushi that can be found in the area, I had my doubts as to how good it would be. I must apologize to the owners for ever doubting. I am not a sushi expert. My son is the big sushi lover. I have had it, but it isn't something I crave a lot. But it is SO NICE to walk in to a place and it is just evident everywhere that the owner(s) have taken great care to give patrons a great experience. The menu is extensive and the sushi rolls are freshly made from fresh ingredients. The waiters are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The decor is contemporary and inviting. Even the music is good. APPETIZERS: We shared the Gyoza (4 pan-fried pork dumplings). There were only three of us, so I claimed the extra dumpling because it was delicious! We also shared the Kanika Fried (Crab meat and cream cheese tempura); I let my hubby have the extra one even though it was also delicious! ENTREES: My son ordered two sushi rolls and he loved them both. They came with wasabi and ginger on the side. He tried the ginger for the first time and he can't wait to go back and try something else new. Hubby safely ordered the General Tso's chicken. He said it was the most tender General's chicken he ever tasted. I tried something new for me--Tempura Udon Soup. The noodles are very dense and the broth has a very different flavor, but I could tell that it was made fresh. It had crab meat, mushrooms and asparagus in it--all cooked perfectly. At the server's suggestion, I dipped the tempura in the soup. YUM. The soup portion was so generous, I had some to take home. We plan to go back soon and work our way through more of the appetizer list while we sample the many varieties of saki on the menu. We may even partake in the all-you-can-eat sushi menu. One thing is sure, we will definitely be going back.

My tempura roll was WAY overcooked (brown) and COVERED in mayo-ish sauce. JUST SKIP IT. The rice is not fresh even, it tasted old. Go up to 75th and Nieman...that sushi place is better.

We came into Sushimido last night at 6pm for my close friend's birthday. We didn't have to wait for a table and we're seated quickly. The appetizers were fantastic but this is where everything went all wrong. We were informed there was a party of 16 after we all decided we were doing the all you can eat. We ordered our first set of rolls and we ate those til about 6:45, the sushi was very bland and all the different ones we got were too similar. Not impressed. We put in our second round at close to 6:50. Didn't receive anything til 7:50. The order was wrong when it arrived too but we didn't even want to say anything we were tired of waiting. I Had one refill come but that was it. I ran out of water as well. Overall a terrible experience and not worth the price. They shouldn't take parties that big if they can not handle the other flow of customers. Our party of 5 decided we will never come back to this place. I heard so much good and it's all fizzled away. Everyone was furious after leaving.

My husband and I love Sushi Mido! We live in the neighborhood and were hesitant to try it having seen what was in the building before . The transformation of the restaurant was amazing. We've dined there a number of times and have enjoyed it every time . We enjoy their lunch special which offers variety and at a great value. I can't get enough of their Ginger salad dressing. We 'd frequent Sushi Mido even more if they were open on Sundays. Go get some Sushi!

We love this place. It is usually top notch. Great food and great service with a fabulous atmosphere. However, this time, something was definitely off. The food didn't taste as fresh as it usually does, which left us quite disappointed. We really hope that next time will be just as good as we remember. At least the service was still as good as it normally is.

I'm reviewing this a 3rd time because of their lunch specials. You can get 2 rolls, soup, and 2 crab rangoon for $9. Amazing deal. Although they raised their price on the All-You-Can-Eat menu, their lunch menus are 5 stars for sure. I got the Spider and Dynamite rolls, each well worth the money spent. Each was fried with crab, with a great fish sauce. I'm sorry I can't recall everything that was in it, but the menu is easy to access on here. For the price, it's unreal how good the deal is. I won't be getting the All-You-Can-Eat anymore but I'll still be coming here every few months. I'll just be coming here for lunch more often, this is good because I work the 3rd shift.

I'm so glad Shawnee got another great sushi restaurant! Although this restaurant focuses on their rolls more than traditional fish-on-rice sushi, it is still the best deal around for FRESH sushi that never disappoints. When they first opened, I went for their "all you can eat" deal, and discovered very quickly that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. It's not a buffet - you order off a menu, the sushi chefs make them in full view as you wait, and each roll has 6-8 pieces. In my eagerness to try several different rolls, I ended up with a lot of wasted food. On subsequent visits, I have taken advantage of their very reasonable lunch specials, available Tue-Sat (they are closed Mondays). You can get 2 rolls, which is truly plenty, for under $8, and 3 rolls for under $10. These specials come with crab rangoon (their version is my favorite in the Shawnee area) as well as soup or salad. I get the miso soup and it is yummy. My friend swears by the salad. I have ordered the fish-on-rice type sushi a couple times, but it ends up being a bit pricey for lunch. In the world of sushi, it is not overpriced... I'm just cheap. I will continue to go here for a great deal on sushi rolls (and pretty good service).. and to "that other Shawnee sushi place" for the never-ending train of fish-on-rice. :) Oh, one last thing - they do offer traditional Asian-American lunches and dinners (general tso's chicken, teriyaki chicken, etc), although I have never ordered them. This is good for friends who aren't into sushi, but are willing enough to come along for the ride.

I was pleasantly surprised. It sounds sketchy, I know, but the sushi was good and the service was good too. I usually come here with a group of friends and we all do the buffet together. When I try other places in town, I am usually disappointed because I could've just gone to sushi mido and had better sushi, more of it, and saved money.

Don't let the unassuming building or the 'all you can eat' sushi deter you from coming here!! By far my favorite sushi place in joco...I've been nothing but impressed with the quality, selection and presentation here. And the prices can't be beat... The only bad thing is that I'm spoiled now! If I try sushi anywhere new I end up feeling ripped off and walk out thinking... 'Should've gone to Sushi Mido...'

Ate here for lunch today with a client who works nearby. Not very crowded, worried me at first but they had plenty of wait staff who were very polite and skilled. Passed on All you can eat and instead we had Katsu don Burri and shared a 3 roll lunch. The rolls were in the small side and not the best I have had but ok, thus the 3 stars. Not sure if the dinner or non lunch rolls would have been larger and a better quality. Don't get me wrong, they were tasty and most people would be pleased. Would like to do the all you can eat just to try their other rolls. Worth a try for sure. Lunch was $9 for each Katsu and $11 for the 3 roll. We had very good crab rang ions, soups miso and hot and sour and I also ate the salad that I ordered with the roll special. All very good.

The only all you can eat sushi place in town. For about $18, you can eat as much rolls as you would like. Try the wonder woman, or volcano. Try to get there early during dinner if you would like to receive your food in a reasonable amount of time. We have waited over 1 hour for our sushi order when there were only 3-4 other tables.

Went for lunch today. Got 3 rolls for 10 bucks. Came with some egg drop soup and randomly, French fries. Soup was good. For the 3 rolls I got the crunchy salmon roll, sweet potato roll, and the dynamite roll. All 3 were pretty good. The crunchy salmon roll was pretty basic but that is why I got it because I had never had the other 2 before. The sweet potato roll was good and was a nice change of flavor from other rolls I had had. The dynamite roll was really good and had about everything under the sun in it. Also had a piece of the dinosaur roll off my friends plate and it was really good too. While I am not a big fan of crab Rangoon he got some with his meal and said they were good. Overall I was very satisfied with the meal. Good price and I went home very full. This is a place I plan to make a regular on my list of places. While I have had better sushi it was at a restaurant where I spent triple that of today's meal and the gap wasn't that large. I am excited to have found a place that satisfy my hunger for sushi as well as my frugal ways. Forgot to note that the wait staff was very good while we were there. Don't think I ever made it to the bottom of my glass of iced tea and even though I have done the sushi thing before they seemed well informed and would work with those that hadn't. Also they have 20% off (until the end of June I think) as they open which makes an even better reason to give this place a try.

So my friend, Craig, insisted I try this place out. I love sushi and I don't expect much from a midwest sushi place but I thought I would give it a shot. All you can eat, $15.95 and then half off specialty items. It is their grand opening though so it was 20% off. We arrived a little after Noon on Sunday - they open at Noon. There were some people already seated and ready to go. We sat in B3. Our server was a young man with a pony tail. He got out drink order right away - water. He brought us menus and the sushi sheet to pick what we wanted. We ordered about 7 rolls and Craig got salad and I got Miso Soup. It took a little bit but soon it came out along with a plate of Crab Rangoon - complimentary! Let me say that Craig was here on Friday night and the service was terrible. The waitress was really bad - forgetting items, not bringing drinks, no crab rangoon, etc. So, this service was stellar comparatively speaking. The miso soup was good although there was a ton of seaweed and I left a lot in the bowl. Craig said the salad was good and had lots of dressing - I assume this is a good thing. The waiter brought him a fork for the salad unprompted which he appreciated. Then came the rolls. Delicious rolls - so many rolls. I don't know what all we got but all told I think we had...9 or 10? I had to stop. I couldn't do it. Craig powered through though and took one for the team. Delicious. They were lots of cooked fish - eel, crab, etc. But they were all well done and pretty and delicious. We had water filled as needed. They did lose our order for a bit but I wasn't longing for more rolls so it was ok to have a break. The food was plentiful and the price was right. Please stay in business!! I will be back! $14.20 plus tip and I was full all day. I went home and took a nap. Wore me out! Decor was ok - we had a nice view of an apartment complex. Staff was friendly and not overly up in my grill, I approve! okaybye. Aimee

We ate here for the first time last Friday night, got in at about 7. Not a long wait, atmosphere was good. Three out of our four, were ordering all you could eat sushi. My dinner came wayyyyy before theirs did. So after waiting a very long time, they got their sushi but before it came, we asked if we could order the 'second' round so we wouldn't have to wait so dang long. The waitress said no. They are very overwhelmed as it is. So another HOUR later, their second set of sushi came out. HORRIBLE! Its $19.98 for all you can eat, if you have about 4 hours to sit! We finally left there at 9:30, very disappointed. Won't be going back. I can understand Friday night busy, but our waitress was not on her game, she made excuses and we sat way too long.

They have an all-you-can eat sushi deal, and that is insane. You can eat unitl you blow up, which is just awesome. They have really good crab rangoon, which is weird for a sushi restaurant, but cool. The decor feels clean and hip, and has cool lighting. The staff is helpful and friendly. The location stinks, mainly because the restaurant's good quality is masked by the run-down, strip-mally vibe of the neighborhood and the unassuming exterior of the building. The food itself is good. I like the spicy tuna roll - it's not top shelf by any stretch, but not cheap. It's a nice, average sushi place that ranks 4 stars for the deal. Clean restaurant, good food, great price - can't beat that.

I was hesitant to try an "All you can eat" sushi place. I was so pleasantly surprised! My husband and son and I chose the all you can eat sushi deal. For $18, I figured, how can you go worng? My 4 year old son was free. We got the salad and soup and some crab rangoon. All very good. Then we chose about 9 or 10 rolls to share, and they were all spectacular! Even my 4 year old, who is picky about sushi, thoroughly enjoyed a few different rolls. The quality of everything was great, and the sushi chefs are skilled at presentation! Treat yourself, and go for all you can eat sushi!

All you can eat sushi that tastes pretty dang decent. I was quite the regular, but now I don't get as much time to go back. It was still pretty good as far as I remember, I got a friend of mine hooked on this place.

Very understaffed. We waited two hours and still didn't receive our full order. We paid for the all you can eat and definitely got cheated because we wouldn't wait any longer for the missing sushi rolls they didn't bring (we were dining with a toddler - also to note, they do not have a children's menu). The couple of rolls we had were good but we won't return.

Wonderful sushi and it's all you can eat! The ginger dressing on the salad is amazing. Will be back and OFTEN!

Service: The reviews about the service were right-- they had one waitress covering the entire place for probably the first half hour we were there and all we could manage to get were our drinks. When her backup showed up and took over our half of the restaurant things got much better. The owner came around often to make sure we were happy which made me feel welcome. If you're looking to get in and out quickly, this probably isn't a good option but if you've got some time to spare it's worth the wait. Food: The ingredients were fresher than I expected (having recently moved to KS from CA I'm never really sure what to expect quality-wise) and they had some very interesting roll combinations that I'd not seen at other sushi restaurants. The miso soup was delicious and I'm sure the crab rangoon would have been delicious if there'd been any trace of warmth in them because their flavor (and the sauce) was amazing! Not the kind of place you visit just once, there's way too much on the menu to try! Price: My boyfriend and I went for dinner and each got the all you can eat sushi (which comes with soup and crab rangoon) for $15.95. We tried six different rolls and paid considerably less than we would have anywhere else. We also got what I assume must still be their grand opening discount of 20%. Their lunch deals looked well priced as well. Overall: I'd recommend this for anyone who wants some delicious, different sushi for an extremely reasonable price.

All you can eat sushi bar Located in the heart of Shawnee, Kansas? You betcha! The exterior is unassuming, but inside, it's kinda classy. Service was very cheerful and because they don't prepare your orders until you request them, your meal is fresh. Sometimes this can be slow, but good food takes time, right?

The idea of all you can eat Sushi was scary at first. Then we showed up, tried the sushi, and have become loyal customers ever since. The sushi is fresh, the selection is fantastic, and the price can't be beat ($18.95 each). This isn't a buffet style, they custom make each role, guaranteeing that you get something fresh and great every time. For people that don't like sushi, they also have a pretty extensive menu for udon, terriyaki, and etc. (again the pricing is pretty darn good). We now go at least once every other week sometimes more and we always have a great sushi. Just one warning if you go during dinner, don't expect it to be fast. Plan on being there at least 1 hour (which still is worth it to us!)

Good food, good service and good pricing. I had the buffet, came with pretty good crab rangoon, and got a variety of rolls. Overall a good experience.

We never got our food! We went today around 12:45 for the lunch special of 3 rolls each. We got the appetizers (crab rangoon, salad, and egg drop soup) but nothing else. Our waitress kept passing by bringing rolls to other tables who came after us. After a while you could tell she was embarrassed but promised our order was coming soon. Finally around 2:00 we ask the man that seemed like the manager and he went back to write up some $5 vounchers. We never got a proper explanation for not getting our food. We would've still waited but he said since they gave our order to another table we couldn't get any??? Doesn't make any sense. I'm disappointed in having our time wasted in this way. I can't recommend.

Fan-freaking-tastically worth the $18.95/person for all you can eat sushi. Come early, order often to avoid the $0.50/piece charge for wasted food. Unlike some other yelpers, we had no problems with wrong orders showing up to our table today. Just be warned that if you do not like spicy food (you're in good company with my wife) you have to be careful with your selections as some rolls that do not state they contain spicy sauce, do indeed have it. Always check with your server. Also, unless you specifically request for them not to, the tuna and salmon rolls come with wasabi. That said, some truly interesting roll combinations happen here, and unlike so many midwestern sushi places the rolls do not get loaded down with unnecessary avocado or other veggie fillers that contribute no actual flavor value to the other ingredients. Also, as a final plus so big it deserves a paragraph break, it was a wonderful change of pace to finally eat at a restaurant that understands the nature of background music. We could hear one another speak without shouting! Thanks everyone at Sushi Mido for a fun Tuesday, we'll be back for sure.

Great food for a great price! Don't be steered away about "all you can eat sushi." It's made fresh to order and it's delicious.

Wow. I waited 2 /12 hours for a cumber and avocado roll. I'm a vegetarian (no I do not eat fish) so while most of the other folks I was with could eat what the chefs decided to make off their order list I waited...and waited... and waited. Seriously? If you go on a Friday night plan and I am assuming Saturday night as well plan on being there all night waiting for your food. The waitress tried to get my food made but the 3 rogue sushi chefs ignored her. At one point the manager was yelling at them in their native tongue not sure if that upped their productivity or not. What a bizarre experience. They might want to rethink the "ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI" Offer and call it "WE'LL MAKE YOU A FEW ROLLS AND YOU CONVINCE YOURSELF THAT YOU ARE FULL" for 15.95.

We went to Sushi Mido for lunch today and did the all-you-can-eat sushi for $15 per person which somes with a choice of soup or salad and an order of crab rangoon. Food was great! I had a feeling, but true story you cannot take home anything leftover if you do the all-you-can-eat. If and when we go back we would probably do the 3 sushi rolls for $9 because its more than enough! Great food and service and our only complaint was that the menu looked like it had been drug through hell and back... Other than that everything was perfect and I would recommend it!

came back the second time and was deeply disappointed by the sudden drop of quality of service & food. it was shocking, really. i guess they must've tried really hard to impress their customers at first, shortly after they opened, but now that they've already successfully drawn in some, they can't really be bothered to keep them there. well, they could fool me to come back the 2nd time, but not again...

Although they were not very full/busy, we had the wrong food brought to our table a few times and had to wait a LONG time between plates. Not a bad deal and food is okay, but you pay for it in wait time.

someone stuck stickers for this place on a bunch of Pitch Weeklies with big bold letters "All-You-Can-Eat-Sushi", so since i'd already tried Kobi downtown and it seems that Edokko decided not to do the Sushi buffet any more, I would take a little trip down to shawnee. First off their rolls are enormous. this is not a place to go solo. take some friends and you'll get more of a selection of rolls and you won't feel like you're stuffing yourself. second of all, i'm not a roll person, i like Nigiri and most of the Nigiri is either included in the buffett or 1/2 price. I had salmon, white fish, scallop, anago, unagi, mackeral and the Midnight Fantasy roll. the white fish was aweful, but that's fine, the slmon, mackeral and scallop were delicious. the Midnight Fantasy roll, as i said was too big after eating all my Nigiri, i ate probably 1/2 of it. no togobox. all in all it was a pleasant experience, though I definitely prefer the Kobi buffett. Their fish was just way better.

Looks unassuming from the outside, but the sushi was fantastic. We went because of a menu we received in the meals touting their all-you-can-eat. We haven't been able to a good all-you-can eat place since we moved to KC. They do charge 50 cents per uneaten piece, so we picked all the rolls we wanted and asked the waiter to put in the order for what he thought we would eat. His guidance was spot on. We have missed the fine Reno tradition of stuffing oneself silly with sushi after starving all day, and we were finally satiated. The service was wonderful and friendly and the sushi chefs were very professional. We will be back.

This place is sooo good! We had the nicest server (I don't remember her name) who was very patient as my boyfriend and I tried to figure our what we wanted. Accidently brough a large beer instead of a small, but in the end she took blame for it, charged us for the small beer and paid outta pocket for the large. Freaking nice! I don't think I could be that nice to people :P She didn't check up on us too much or too little. Everything was absolutely delicious! The Samurai roll and Hawaiian roll are fantastic. I really like them all! Great price too. All you can eat for $20 a person? that's fantastic. You get a salad, an appetizer, and however many rolls you want! Although be warned they will charge you if you get ten rolls and only eat 4. They don't want to be wasteful even though it's all you can eat it is very high quality. So my advice is order a couple at a time. You can enjoy them slowly and see how much you can handle. My boyfriend and I shared 4 rolls, and I ate a dessert roll. So that's 5. And amazingly delicious! Definitely a great place to go.

Not a sushi fan to start with, but whoa was I ever blown away by this place. I work a few blocks from here and the lunch specials are insane. 1 roll + soup/salad + crab rangoon/harumaki (egg roll) for $7 or 2 rolls for $10? It's stupid lunch value and you can really make 2 meals almost out of the portions they give you. That being said, I avoid the raw stuff, so the dynamite roll (fried) is where I usually end up, but the sweet potato roll, asparagus roll, kc chiefs roll, and a couple of others are VERY good indeed. If you do the all you can eat sushi, be forwarned they charge you for what you don't eat...which wasn't a problem for me :).

I'll keep it short. If you want really good rolls, you'll love this place! If you are short on time, go south to Sakura and use the train as you'll need patience at Sushi Mido. We went with our family of four. 2 kids, 2 adults. Our first visit was great. Waitress was nice, but not able to provide much info on the rolls. She brought our stuff as quickly as she could and the rolls didn't take too long to make it out. Good experience. Our second visit was much different. Rolls took FOREVER (seriously, 45 minutes) and then we were missing some. After 3 hours we were stuffed and finally ready to leave. The decor is very nice. Staff seems to all be very nice. But they need to do something to speed up the process. I would recommend this place, but go in with the expectation that you'll be waiting for a bit. But it's fresh rolls made to order. Price is great for all you can eat sushi. Food is great as well. Price also includes soup or salad and crab rangoons. Try the explosion roll!

I have always been a little frightened of the idea of the sushi buffet. So it was with a bit of trepidation that we ventured into Sushi Mido recently. We went ahead and got the all you can eat deal, which allowed us to get a nice sample of rolls. They were fine. We also tried some of their nigiri. It was fine. All in all, it was about the same quality as decent grocery store sushi. Probably not as good as Sakura up the street, but pretty good value. We had some Sake and it was a pretty good size bottle that was filled to the rim. I would go back and stick to the rolls, as it would fulfill my sushi cravings until I could afford to go to a higher quality sushi place for good fish.

I came here around 11:45am for lunch. This was Review Of The Day last week so thanks Kent! The parking lot was small but I didn't have any issues finding parking. There were not a lot of people eating here but that was fine to me. There was a sushi bar as well as 2 flat screen TVs suspended from the ceiling. I looked at their menu online before I came over and the menu was the same as posted online. It made it easier to decide what to order. I ordered the lunch special for $8.39 and chose the Chicken Teriyaki. It came with a crab rangoon and choice of salad or soup. I went with the Egg Drop soup since I haven't had that for years. They did have miso soup but I usually ordered that and wanted to change it up. I also ordered the Dinosaur Roll $6.95 because that was one of the popular rolls ordered. It was a few minutes before the crab rangoon, soup, and chips (I think?) came to my table. The Egg Drop soup was pretty good but it was also hot temperature-wise. The crab rangoon was also hot on the inside but that was good as well. The Dinosaur Roll came out before my Chicken Teriyaki. The Dinosaur Roll was delicious and I would recommend it if anybody liked soybean paper wrap or want to try it. I'd prefer the seaweed wrap though. The Chicken Teriyaki came with a mound of rice, mushrooms, peppers, onions, broccoli, and chicken. The amount was enough for one person and it would fill someone up (it did for me). Great deal for $8.39 for all of that food (minus the Dinosaur Roll). I would recommend coming here for lunch because the lunch special deal was the most bang for your buck. The sushi was great as well and I would probably come in the future to try other things out.

Perfectly acceptable sushi, especially when you go for the all you can eat deal. It's very easy to leave full and happy here without breaking the bank. After going without sushi for far too long, my husband and I had a craving and decided to give Sushi Mido a try. We got there just before 1pm on a Saturday, and while it was already busy, we were seated pretty quickly. We did stand in the "waiting area" awkwardly for a couple of minutes while no one made eye contact with us, which I thought was kind of weird, but after we were seated, our server was friendly. We did see plenty of people coming in after us, and by the time we left, there were quite a few people waiting to be seated, so I'd say go early if you don't want to wait. We opted for the all you can eat deal, and ended up ordering 5 rolls, which we thought might be a tad bit ambitious for our first try, but we were hungry! We also both started with the hot and sour soup, which was VERY good, and the edamame, which was edamame. Kind of hard to ruin that. When our sushi came out, it was all on one big plate, and the server went through everything so quickly that we weren't really sure what was what. I do remember that we both liked the Lobster Roll a lot, and the roll that was topped with the white fish. I found a couple of the others to be a bit bland (or at least, they didn't really stand out to me), and I do agree with another reviewer that the tempura in some of the rolls was visually interesting, as it was bright red, but it did have a stale taste to it, like it wasn't the freshest. The rolls were also not HUGE, so eating all 5 was easily achievable for us, and we could've done another one easily. So, lesson learned for the next time around. All in all, I'm glad we gave Sushi Mido a try, and can easily say that we'll be back in again, especially if we feel like eating a great deal of sushi. It's not my favorite sushi place ever, but I'm still a fan.

Great all you can eat sushi. Was a little skeptical at first, however the place was very crowded and the food tasted great so I can see why they are popular. Great waiter who really knew what to recommend:)

Sushi has an all you can sushi buffet, in which you order off of a menu, and they will make everything for. The buffet comes with appetizers and soups. I prefer Asian Palace over this place for sushi buffet, because Sushi Mido only includes rolls for their all you can eat. No nigiri, no sashimi. I believe their all you can eat is approximately 22$. Not too bad for a buffet. Their sushi is always fresh; however, I just prefer more simple sushi, not fried rolls or rolls doused in sauce.

This place was a total surprise. My boyfriend and I did the all you can eat sushi and I was very much worth the price. They have a very large selection of signature rolls and the service is top notch, even on a busy night. I suggest the lobster roll! It is to die for, with HUGE pieces of lobster! And, the sushi is visually stunning and look like little pieces of art! Go try this place right now!

Really good quality sushi, tasty, and a great value. The lunch special is a really good value for all you get for it, and it will keep you full and happy through the day. I usually just stop by and get this for lunch but I think dinner here would be quite good as well. It sounds like their unlimited sushi would be a great deal.

I've been here twice, both times I had exceptionally horrible service. The first time I waited 20 minutes to place my order and then another 30 minutes for my food and there were only 3 other tables occupied. The sushi was good so I decided I'd give it another try. Big mistake. Second time the place was packed but we got seated quickly which made me happy we placed our order quickly and received our appetizers quickly, off to a good start but it ended there. We waited an hour and a half for our sushi which was only three types of rolls so not a big order. Two tables that got seated after us received large platters before us. The sushi was once again good, which is why I'm giving 2 stars. Overall, this place is a joke. Horrible service with ok sushi but I've had better and will stick to my old place.

Flavorful and fantastic, the sheer variety of fish, vegetable and sauce at Sushi Mido will overwhelm at first, but accurate menu descriptions paired with friendly and helpful waitstaff seal the deal. Try the excellent ginger salad and spicy, savory hot and sour soup, and don't miss the creative Pink Lady roll, a unique combination of strawberry, kiwi, and chocolate sauces on a banana and tempura fried dough base, for dessert.

Been here twice in about three years hoping the second time would be much better. Nope, same horrible customer service. Whether it be the manager, hostess, or owner. They were very rude. First time I went, three hours from the time we got our appetizers to the sushi served. We only were able to have one sushi roll per person at our table on the all you can eat sushi before all the rice ran out. The server came to our table apologized and asked if we wanted dessert. Then came and gave us our ticket. Charged us full price, no discount even though we only had only one roll before they ran out of rice. Second time we came. It got better... sort of. We were given two sushi rolls per person during again our three hour wait. During that wait, it took our waitress 45+ minutes to get a sliced jalapeno, which we asked for three times in the span of 30 minutes for. She didn't even apologize. Through this whole wait she didn't give us any explanation for the wait our even apologize for it. We ended our night with the manager mouthing off to two people in our party, when they asked him to correct the over charges on our drinks specials. We asked if the wait times of three hours were normal. He shot back at us saying, they are and if we didn't like them we can go elsewhere, and he didn't need us to come back. Guess we should have listen to our instincts and not return from the first experience we had, and the 3 other bad reviews from friends who had similar experiences. Sadly, they actually don't deserve even a star... the most horrible customer service we have had and the things they said in front of my small children were by far inappropriate and unprofessional.

I LOVE this place! Their sushi is just as good (or better) than Drunken Fish and Kona, but the prices are fantastic. The ginger salad is great too! I always have a great server when I eat there. I really can't say enough about this hidden gem in Old Shawnee.

Sad to say this review will not be a nice one. My family and I have eaten here many times and had favorable times every time. Last night, however, that wasn't the case. After the 15 minute wait (which was fine, it was dinner time), we were seated and the waiter took our order and was prompt about getting our drinks to us, and then our soups and appetizers. At that point, he told us that our food should be coming out soon, and I thanked him for his attentiveness. Then....crickets. We waited more than 30 more minutes, with our waiter intermittently telling us that he was checking on our order. Finally, when he realized it had been such a long time, he goes to one of the chefs to ask about our order and he shrugs knowing nothing about it. Then the waiter goes to the computer, PRINTS OFF OUR ORDER, and hands it to the chef. The waiter then came over and lied to us, tell us there was some sort of mix up, one that he couldn't explain, and that there was a rush put on our order. I thank him again, begrudgingly. The food arrived shortly thereafter, and we ate and paid (the waiter offered us no discount for the wait or the screw up) and we went home. Soon after we get home, my wife starts feeling ill. Her stomach is in knots, but neither me nor my son had any troubles. Something in her soup or the role that she ordered that she alone ate was bad, and it gave her food poisoning. Between the delay, the screw up, the lies, the unprofessionalism and the food poisoning, I rate Sushi Mido one star, and I vow that it will take an act of God to invite me back there.

$21.95 all you can eat sushi!!!! Best sushi in town. I have been a few times now and absolutely love it. The volcano and dragon rolls are my favorite. All the rolls are marked with what they contain so you know exactly what you are getting. Great service. Friendly and knowledgeable. We order our rolls in 3's and space them out and they time them perfectly.

Sushi Mido is a diamond in the rough! When approaching Sushi Mido, it looked like a small shack of a restaurant, however, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the restaurant. The place is bigger than I expected and it was nice and clean inside. I visited during the lunch hour expecting to eat some all you can eat sushi, which I was very intrigued about. Instead, I went with the lunch special because they have a very impressive one. The lunch comes with 2 pieces of crab rangoon, a salad or soup, and a choice of 1 roll, 2 rolls, or 3 rolls. The prices are also decent at $7, $9, and $12 respectively. I figured I most likely wouldn't eat more than 3 rolls if I went with the $20 all you can eat sushi, so the lunch special was definitely the way to go. The crab rangoon was very tasty and brought out right from the fryer. It was crispy, hot, and deliciously filled with cream cheese. The salad was simple but the dressing was also pretty tasty. We ordered the vegetable tempura appetizer and it was also good. It came in a nice presentation. I was very happy with the rolls that I tasted. A few rolls that intrigued me were the sweet potato roll and the bagel roll. Both were surprisingly delicious! The sweet potato roll was crunchy with the sweet/salty taste you'd expect from sweet potato fries. The bagel roll actually had the taste of a breakfast bagel with cream cheese and some sort of fish that was almost like prosciutto. Other rolls I liked were the dynamite rolls and crispy calamari roll. I'm a fan of Sushi Mido and am very glad I came during a lunch hour. Personally, I like Sushi Mido much better than Drunken Fish because of the price, sushi quality, and sushi selections. The only thing that I feel needed some work was the service. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. I didn't like that the server was basically standing next to the table waiting for us to take the last tempura from the basket so he can take it away. I like to eat in my own pace and don't like my waiter rushing me.

Mmmmm sushi.... I was pleasantly surprised by sushi mido. It has a crummy appearance, but the sushi was great and the lunch specials were the best I've seen for sushi in the area!!! 2 or 3 rolls + 2 crab rangoons or egg rolls. Great for me and hubs!

Solidly 3.75-4 stars, especially keeping sushi reviews relative to KC. We went once a year ago and it was a pleasant 3 star visit. Went again, had way too much AYCE and contentedly waddled out. Can't really remember the rolls we had... the Dinosaur Roll (super tasty with a little black pepper taste), Midnight Fantasy, Ahi Tuna Crunch Roll, Sunrise Roll, Wonder Woman Roll, and Dynamite Roll. Gotta say, the first three were just a little better than the next three, but we ordered them first because they sounded best. I'm pretty sure this is the only AYCE sushi in town, and it's convenient that they're not too far down the road from us.

Not the best sushi I've ever had but the best in my neighborhood. Plus the inside is really nice, much nicer than it looks from the outside. Great lunch special - salad or soup, 2 rolls and crab rangoon for $9.25! Can't beat that!!!! Only weird thing is they aren't open on Mondays....seems like every time I have a craving for sushi it's Monday!

Dined at Sushi Mido for dinner and was super impressed by the attentive service and yummy menu of sushi, sushi rolls and a variety of other Japanese culinary treats. For a Sunday evening, it was a packed restaurant, but we were seated immediately by a friendly hostess. There were three sushi chefs behind the sushi counter and they were kept busy the entire time we were there. Our server was helpful and friendly too. She quickly asked us if we'd dined there before and then went on to explain the "All You Can Eat" option, which we chose not to do THIS TIME. All of us started with a bowl of Miso soup- delicious! One of the best bowls of Miso soup I've had and I've tried my share of Miso soup in Tokyo and San Francisco. My husband and I chose three rolls: spicy tuna, snow white (crab and tempura calamari) and sundown (yellowtail). The spicy tuna was loaded with flavor. Loved it! One of the best I've had. The Sundown was the only let down of the three rolls we ordered. The show stealer for us was the yummy SNOW WHITE. I will go back to Sushi Mido for this scrumptious roll any day. Highly recommend it. My mom doesn't eat sushi, so she opted for the mixed vegetable tempura and was delighted with it. I have a feeling that this restaurant is going to get more popular and waiting lines of 30 to 60 minutes are in its future.

It is so good when I travel which is a lot, I always wish I was home to eat here. Best rolls imo are midnight fantasy, kc chief, samurai, tiger & lobster.

I definitely went into sushi mido with high hopes... Which came crashing down. The actual restaurant was clean and pretty much what you would expect. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food however was not worth the 18.95 per person. Even though the food was made to order it ranked some of the worst sushi I've ever had. We ordered three rolls and was not impressed with any of them. I'd recommend staying away from the spicy tuna for sure.... So disappointed!
