The taco Tuesday special is a a great deal. The food is delicious, and the service is quick, and friendly. The interior is clean, and nicely done.

Look, I realize this is Kansas.. But come on. I made the mistake of sitting at the bar. The "bartender was more of a ghost than anything else. Then, once my food got there (that was fast, not the service) I was told that the thing I ordered didn't come with shrimp. Last time I checked "camarón" was shrimp.. I was politely belittled about what I ordered as though I don't speak some Spanish. I got my shrimp, and it was really good. I'll give them that. In general, the pollo was dry, there was no spice (though the hot sauce I asked for was quite hot-jackpot) and as a person that is regularly in the area, I don't think I'll return. Thanks, but no thanks.

Sister store to the Rainbow and Southwest Boulevard locations, this Taqueria Mexico is a welcome edition to the southwest suburbs. The restaurant, albeit dimly lit, offers a fairly open floor plan surrounded by booths, which is easy to navigate and equally as comfortable. While the tables are close, there is enough space to move around without having to worry about bumping into those around you. The food is good and the portions are healthy. You don't have to be bashful about asking for a to-go container. All of the normal conspirators are listed so please feel free to search for your favorite dish. If you don't have one then I highly recommend the Bistek Mariposa with the flour tortillas.

The best thing about this restaurant is the service. The weren't busy...so the staff was attentive. Everyone helped each other, so that the customer was taken care off. Wish I could say the same for the food. Everyone has a bad day...today had to be theirs. Mine too, come to think of it. I can not with good conscience recommend the chicken nachos...unless you're a fan of huge portions of dry stringy chicken, soggy chips, hardly any cheese, absent beans, and a tease of sour cream. And that was the deluxe version. Hopefully your experience will be better if you're already seated...if not...just don't .

Excellent place. My wife loves mexican food and I suggested here to eat. We go to a different restaurant by the same name often and decided to try here. Very delicious! Cheese sauce was really good. Wife got the Chimichunga. Said it was better than the other place because the chicken wasn't swimming in the sauce. She could actually taste the chicken. I got the cheese enchiladas. It was served in traditional enchilada sauce and lots of cheese. Very cheesy, very good. Good place. We would come back.

Really disappointing. There was very little flavor in the beef fajitas,. Even the chips and salsa lacked flavor or spice, tasted like it came from a tin. The guacamole was bland and the rice lacked spice.

They've been open about a month at the Olathe location so we decided to give them a try. The food and service at their other locations are great, but the service here was absolutely terrible. They weren't THAT busy but appeared to be understaffed...at 6pm on a Saturday night. We waited for about 15 minutes before a manager came to get our drink/food order. An hour passed before we got our food. In the mean time our chips were gone, cheese dip was cold and drinks were empty. We were close to walking out (as many of the tables in our area did) but waited it out. Not a single person checked on our table during this hour. A waiter would come to the section, do something quick and disappear. It also appeared that there were 3 managers/hosts at the front. We finally got our food (one of the orders was wrong) but everything was good...not an hour wait kind of good though. We waited for a while for our check, no one came back so we left enough money on the table to cover our bill. Two other tables in our area were doing the same. It's too bad. The food is good and the area needs a decent Mexican place, but if they don't get the service part figured out, they will close like the three other places that have been in the same building.

The barman knows his stuff. Do not hesitate to ask for advises. And he is very proud of his work. Love it Amigo

First time we tried this place on a whim. It was amazing! Food was awesome, service was even better! We have tried to find a good Mexican joint, but I'm picky. This place is great!

Some of the better Mexican food in the area, new location at 119th and I35. They are celebrating 20 years in business, congratulations!

Because they haven't been open very long, I'm cutting them a break on some of the service issues. We had a waitress who seemed to be overworked, but she was very nice. And if she didn't get to us in time to fill up our drinks, the manager was there. Two or three waitresses also delivered food to our table that wasn't ours (we didn't keep it, of course.) But no biggie. The reason I'll keep coming back is because of the chicken chimichanga, which I usually devour like a rabid dog. So good. The salsa is fresh, and just a little on the spicier side when compared with the other Mexican joints around town. Their menu is a bit more diverse than local chains like Mi Ranchito -- maybe to appease the more traditional Mexican cuisine enthusiasts. But I settle for the K.C. Mex favorites like tacos, flautas, and chimichangas. This is the third restaurant in this building in less than a couple of years I think. It used to be Hooters. Then it was some other Mexican restaurant. Now this. I hope this one sticks around.

Went on Saturday with my gorgeous girlfriend. She had steak quesadillas and I had enchiladas. Everything was great!

Service was good and portions were plentiful. Unfortunately, the food was average at best and rather bland. The salsa didn't seem fresh and I'm not sure if it wasn't out of a can.

I don't like being one of the only ones to hate on this place, but it was DISGUSTING! As a disclaimer, I should say that my fiance and I were visiting from Northern California, the land of REAL taquerias at every corner and neighborhoods spotted with amazing taco trucks. This said, our expectations were not at all high, as after all, this is Kansas and a typical Mexican chain restaurant. There are a number of things that are just totally wrong at Taqueria Mexico: 1) It is not a taqueria. A taqueria is a place where you walk up to the front counter, see a yellow sign with the orders written in Spanish and a picture next to them. You pay $1.25 for two corn tortillas heaping-full of freshly cooked, well seasoned meat (carnitas, al pastor, lengua, pollo, carne asada, etc.), onions, and cilantro. While you wait for your tacos to be finished, you nibble on a few chips and hit up the salsa bar to fill up little containers of your favorite salsas and toppings (radish, pickled vegetables, grilled onions, etc.). This is a typical American chain restaurant disguised as a Mexican place, complete with a live (American) singer and baseball playing on all of the TVs. 2) They don't serve black beans here. What kind of Mexican place only serves pinto and refried? My fiance ordered a dry burrito, but because they didn't have the anything other than refried beans for burritos, they decided to instead add a TON of extra cheese to it. It turned out to basically be a huge enchilda...They even topped it off in their disappointing adobo sauce (when sqecifically requested not to). 3) They don't know what a super burrito is. OK. Burritos are definitely an American thing and NOT a Mexican thing, but still! Just add the cheese, sour cream and guac to my rice, beans and meat! 4) Neither their salsa nor guacamole is spicy, nor did they have hot sauce (where's my Tapatio?!) on the table...In fact, everything we tried was bland--from the salsa and guacamole to the fajitas to burritos. I could keep going, but I feel like I've hated on them enough. I'm sure this place is good for some people, but just not for us Mexican-loving Californians.

12 of us went to lunch here to celebrate a coworkers last day at work. We all ordered something different and it all came out at the same time. Which was nice. It wasn't crowded so we expected quick service. The food was okay nothing special. I ask the waitress if the fish was cooked in butter or oil because I have a dairy allergy. She went and checked and said vegetable oil but they could cook it in butter if I wanted. No I have a dairy allergy. "Oh ok, so fish no butter. Do you still want the cheese and sour cream?" Me "No those are dairy, but thank you for asking. Also just to double check the guacamole that comes on it, is it traditional or does it have sour cream in it?" Waitress "It has sour cream in it, so you don't want it either." Me "No." She took the other 11 orders. She kept the waters full and the salsa too. We did have to flag her for our checks. Had to ask twice for them while she cleared the plates. Food was fast but I have had better at many other places. Waitress was either new or really off her game that day.

Stopped in on Mother's Day with my kids after seeing a movie at AMC. Since I don't live in the area anymore, I was suprised to learn that Hooters is gone, and this is actually the second business to go in since they closed....wow! But when we came in, we were quickly greeted and seated, and the manager brought our drinks to us with little wait. It did take a few minutes for a server to come around, but it wasn't an unbearable wait. Everyone was super friendly, and once we did place our orders it didn't take long at all to get our food. As with any Mexican restaurant, we started with chips & salsa. I will say this is some of the best salsa I've had, just the right blend of heat and sweet, and not so chunky that you can't keep it on the chips. My son got the chicken chimi with queso sauce, which of course I had to sample, and it was was DELICIOUS! My cheese enchiladas were perfect, as were my daughter's flautas. And to top it off, they brought out a free dessert for Mother's Day, which was totally unexpected. Kansas City has no shortage of good Mexican restaurants, but if you're in the area you should really give this place a try.

Greated at the door with a handshake and table service was excellent as well. The food was great and I grew up on Mexican food in Dallas. We will definitely be back.

Last night I tried this new branch of locally owned Taqueria Mexico in the shopping mecca at 119th and Strang Line (right by I-35) where the AMC 30 is located. The restaurant occupies the place that formerly housed the short-lived branch of Lawrence's La Parrilla. The restaurant wasn't super crowded last night. I was seated immediately and service was prompt and friendly. Soccer fans will probably like this restaurant and its bar because there were plentiful TV screens, all tuned to the Univisión feed of the final game of the Confederations Cup in Rio. Brazil beat Spain 3-0!!! (Yay!!! Even though I also like the Spanish team.) As I often do I ordered chiles rellenos, because they're a fairly tricky dish to make at home properly. To accompany it a bottle of Mexico's excellent Bohemia beer. (For gringos, Mexicans consider Bohemia to be the country's premium light beer -- it's a fine pilsener style beer.) Thin crispy chips and salsa were placed on the table. The salsa is red and nicely flavored but has virtually no bite at all. I asked if a spicier salsa was available and they brought a dish of that to dip my chips in. It's also nicely flavored and has a nice bite without being excessively hot. The chiles rellenos came on a generous platter with refried beans and Mexican rice. The chiles rellenos were made much more like the way I'd be likely to see them in Mexico: two cheese-stuffed chiles with exactly the right kind of coating in which they were perfectly (and greaselessly) fried, and napped (not drowned) in red chile sauce with some queso fresco crumbled on top. The whole platter was accompanied by a choice of corn or flour tortillas. The rice, beans and chiles were well-flavored and definitely "authentic" tasting, although more in a Northern Mexican style than the Mexico City-style I usually crave. But these are certainly well done and any aficionado of Northern Mexican, Tex-Mex or Southwestern style food will be a very happy camper with this dish! This is close to where I live, so I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu items. It will also be good competition for the very popular Mi Ranchito on 119th St., which also has good food and service but is more Tex-Mex and Americanized. (As in LOTS of cheese, which is used more sparingly in real Mexican cooking.) If you're looking for a good meal while shopping or going to a movie in this area, Taqueria Mexico is a great choice. It would also be a good place to watch soccer games, in the restaurant or at the bar, although I suppose they mostly feature Mexican and Latin American matches.

This is real authentic Mexican food. We've tried just about every dish and they all seem to be excellent. The Taco Tuesday's are great with .99 steak tacos goes great with a cold beer or top shelf margarita. On the weekends they usually have a live band play with attention to both service and food. If you like Mexican food this is a top notch place to visit.

We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was outstanding. Food is traditional Mexican and was really great. Having been to Mexico City a couple times I can say for certain that this place is truly more traditional than you'll probably find within 100 miles of Kc. You feel like you could eat there every night and not get tired of it. Lots of variety. Great margaritas and lots of weeknight specials. This is our new hangout for sure.

I don't know what happened to my previous review so I am posting again to shed light on how fantastic this restaurant is. Do not knock it if you have not tried it! I realize several other businesses that were housed their before failed, and I pray you restaurant goers realize what a gem this place is! First off, I cant say enough good things about the service and the warmth of the Manager Juan, and the servers. My fiance and I frequent this restaurant at least once a wk, and we feel like we know everyone who works there. The Food: I have to admit but I am a person who doesn't steep outside my normal dish very often, but I have gained enough confidence each time I eat at Taqueria that regardless of what I order, it will be great! The foods we are stuck on: Chicken chimichanga, steal Grande Burrito, fajitas, Tacos! We also love their cheese dip and think it is the best diponeeded by any Mexican restaurant! Their rice and dbeans are also very authentic and actually have flavor, which can't be paid about every other Mexican restaurant. I am probably forgetting something here, but we have tried several items and its safe to say we are obsessed with their food! The drinks: Wow! If you like to grab a few drinks with your food, as my fiance usually does, this is the place for you. They have phenomenal drink specials every day of the wk, and everyone of their drinks are well balanced and tasty (you can actually taste the alcohol)!! Mojitos, margaritas, and their long island ice teas are killer! I am not even a huge drinker, but I can't resist when I come here, usually because drinks are always $3 or less depending on youthe special! Also, live music is always provided on Fridays and Saturdays nights so it makes for a nice atmosphere! Get there! Eat drink and be happy! Long story short, you don't want to miss out on this restaurant!

Really good food and I found the service above average. I love Mexican food that is authentic. This is not just the same old dishes you get everywhere else.

Nice decor. Service a little slow. Chips and salsa were good. Rice and beans tasty. Carne asada steak was cold and needs more seasoning. Fajita quesadilla was amazing. Left not smelling like Mexican food :)

I cannot say enough about this restaurant. From the first visit they made us feel right at home. Juan (Manager) greets us with a hand shake and a smile every single time. We frequent this place at least once a week. The service is amazing. Every server is great but Ashley has been ours the majority of the time. She goes above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. Monday is .99 tacos that you will absolutely be craving again by Wednesday! Also they have fantastic $1.99 margaritas Mondays. Recently we found out they have .50 wings every night of the week. Yup, I said wings, and darn good ones. The first time I had them they didn't have any blue cheese dressing, only ranch. So, Ashley went to another establishment and go blue cheese for us. That's the kind of service I'm talking about. They gave us a comment card and the only thing we requested was to have blue cheese for the wings. The next week bam....they did! If you want a nice casual laid back wonderful experience. This is the place. All of the menu items I've had are great! Would love to see more feedback posted here to see if the awesome reviews this place has gotten really helps. Happy Eating!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
