Love my go to breakfast spot. Food is family friendly and good. Service is good with the regular girls. I still say nite staff and late weekends is not as good. We actually are very careful where we sit during off hours to catch one of the good waitresses. Service is very important to me and if I wanted to be ignored or treated like I don't matter I could stay home to get that. Food is always good! Service off peak is spotty. Please fix the nite service.

The waitstaff was sweet and my coffee was always full. In terms of food, I got their hotcakes with eggs and sausage. Hotcakes were pretty good but the sausage was pretty depressing(dry and flavorless). It's probably not going to become my first choice for breakfast.

Ordered liver and onions and my husband ordered Caribbean wrap. Wait staff are friendly. Looks like the older crowd is the customers. Somebody just walked by with the most delicious pies! I am getting pie for dessert! Just saw some yummy looking rolls go by as well! I hope my meal comes with rolls! Real potatoes and delicious gravy. Liver A1. Tender. They know how to cook liver. Personally, I would have preferred it without breading, but to each his own. It was still good. The rolls were fresh and soft! Very good. Onion rings AA11! Awesome! Ordered strawberry shortcake for Bill. Sour cream and raisin pie for me. Desserts were out if this world good! Debbie is our server. She is fun and very capable. Great service. Other than the servers, there isn't anyone here under 60. You young folks are missing out on good country cooking! I'm back for breakfast. One complaint. No real butter. All this awesome food and they want me to use artificial junk butter. Of course if you are a biscuit and gravy person, I'm not, there is that. The omelet and hash browns were good. Not overly seasoned so you can salt it yourself. I like that

Guy Fieri needs to visit this place! A classic diner in every aspect. It was packed on a Sunday morning, but we got right in and service was quick and friendly. Our waitress commented that food wasn't coming out of the kitchen very quickly, but it was on par with everything else so when they're on, I suspect it comes out very fast! I had pork chops (2 thin sliced grilled), 2 eggs and hash browns. It was all very tasty - the only complaint is that the pork chops tasted a little to marinated for my liking, but they still go eaten! My wife had a sausage omelet that was quite good, with 4 slices of bacon (they actually gave her 6 or so) and a short stack of pancakes. The waitress asked her if she really wanted the short stack or smaller pancakes because the regular short stack cakes are kinda large. She wasn't kidding. These things were the size of a hubcap and were very good. Overall this is a great place if you're in the nostalgia mood or just want some good solid comfort food. They also have a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, dinner items, etc.

Went to 56 highway today had sausage and pancakes , the sausage was cold , they sent another one out that was Luke warm , they did take it off my ticket, my son's grilled cheese and fries were good, pancakes were good also. I don't eat cold pork tho.

Fair... Dry salad. The pork cutlet meal tastes like it was already frozen. Husband meal look alright. He had open face roast beef sandwich. Son hamburger looked like a burger that is in a school cafeteria. Maybe breakfast is better. I think Denny's is way better.

We went often to Old 56 Highway Diner. The food is good. The coffee could be improved. Service was great.

Tasteless!! Sysco mashed potatoes and gravy that was barely warm tasted like trash! Chicken Fried Steak Greasy and cold. No green vegetable offered had to order a side salad that was just a salad mix with iceberg lettuce you can grab at WalMart. Horrible waste of 13.00 I could of had a better meal at home.

This is one of my spots when I chose to have a relaxed and quiet breakfast on an early Saturday morning. It is a 50ish style family restaurant where the nostalgic ambience attracts a middle aged and elderly crowd. There are no frills in the decor and that's fine because I visit here for the simplicity of the menu, the consistency of good quality home style cooked meals and the very friendly staff that goes out of their way to ensure customer comfort. The meals are simple and the portions are modest and priced right. The usual breakfast fare is all there, omelets, eggs any which way, pancakes, bacon, hash brown and so on. Bottom line is; you get a decent meal for a decent price without complicating your life or draining your pocket book

What a surprise!! Really, really good breakfast!! Looks like it's a time warp, but, the place is very clean, the staff extremely friendly! The eggs and hashbrowns, in particular, were VERY flavorful!! Bacon as well!! They even earn kudos for presentation: orange slice and green leaf for color was a nice, unexpected touch. Only (very minor) negative: I asked for hashbrowns to be extra crispy, and, they weren't. But, they were so flavorful that I didn't care! Highly recommended!

Excellent little old style diner. You won't be disappointed with a stop here. The food was a reminder of grandma's home style cooking. The atmosphere was beyond friendly and welcoming. I ordered a french dip with cottage cheese. The beef was nice, tender and lean. The au jus full of flavor. A really good french dip for a picky french dip lover. The cheese was perfectly melted and the bread was excellent. It sucked up the jus, but was not soggy, had a good slight crisp to it. The cottage cheese they served was good quality and a great compliment to the sandwich. The restaurant was clean and very well maintained for an older restaurant that appears to have been around for a while. I was quite impressed. Things where you might expect to see build up in an older building (ceiling tiles, vents, etc.) were clean and looked great. The decor is old 50s style diner with a focus on cars. The service was amazing. It was obvious that they get a lot of repeat business as they called people by name as they entered and took time to have brief conversation with customers. Conversations that made it apparent that they knew the customers on some level. Although they had a good lunch business going and were fairly busy they kept everything going and had time to add the personal touch. This was with two waitresses and one hostess. They seemed to all work very well with each other. Although the waitresses had their sections, if one was busy, the other had no issues bringing the others food out. A really well ran restaurant with employees that any business would be thrilled to have from what I experienced during my visit. Prices are great. Breakfast, lunch, diner, all looked to be below or around $10. Looking forward to going back. A real hidden gem on the outside of town.

This is my go-to for breakfast in Olathe. We have places like First Watch in Olathe now, but Old 56 is a place that makes good, normal breakfast. The price is right, the staff is friendly, and the food is consistently good.

Nice little diner. Compared to a similar place in say, Pittsburg, KS, this place is a little more JoCo (which isn't necessarily a bad thing!). The staff was very friendly and the service was great. They informed me that they only serve fried chicken on Wednesdays and Saturdays (or was it Sunday? Not sure, but I went on a Wednesday), so naturally, I had to try the fried chicken. It was served with green bean caserole and mashed potatoes, but I opted for the waffle fries instead of mashed. The chicken was juicy and delicious, with a crispy breading that didn't overpower in flavor. I won't go as far as to say it was better than the famous chicken places in Pittsburg (i.e. Bardo's, Chicken Mary's, Chicken Annie's). I've had better green bean caserole; their cream of mushroom seemed a little "watery". The waffle fries were coated with a seasoning reminiscent of Arby's curly fries, and were some of my favorite waffle fries to date. I definitely recommend the fried chicken and the waffle fries!

Nothing says it better for me than homestyle cooked food. I really enjoyed the roast beef open faced sandwich. The desert was also really good. The sour cream and raisin pie was like rice pudding without the rice. Truly amazing, though the waitress said that many people seem afraid to try it. Waitress, Regina, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was cooked fast and was quite hot. I'll definitely be back!

We stopped in for breakfast based on the reviews on this site. I can't think of the last time I was so disappointed. Sure the restaurant is clean, but the food is so dull as to be a shame. The biscuits, gravy and pancakes are obviously made from mixes. The bacon was shriveled and fatty. The coffee was weak and almost burned tasting. The only cream(er) available was those little cartons of Coffee-mate. And, on top of all that, evidently our table was where the extra silver was to be stored. Every time we turned around someone was putting a pile of wrapped silver on the table top or taking a handful of it. This may just be a personal preference, but I'd prefer not to get my ticket as soon as I get my food. It makes me feel as if I'm being rushed. The waitress made us feel like that too... almost like....you're not a regular...you don't matter. I don't think I'm being over sensitive, cause that's just not me. First and last time for us.

This place looks sooo cool on the outside....a true 50s style diner. But the inside is just plain dirty (cobwebs, ikess!!! ) and the food was not good at all! Undercooked or overcooked, and just flavorless. Bummer.

Went there for breakfast today and it was not very good. One could fix a better breakfast at home and for a lot less money. The service was good, so that's why I gave it 2 stars. Won't go back.
