This place is fantastic! Food is great and so is service! It's a nice locally-owned place to take the family...yum! Also....ask the server what they recommend to eat...or what they like on the menu...they won't steer you wrong...not a place to just get tacos!

La Carreta is inviting on the inside and decent patio out front to enjoy the beautiful weather. Service was courteous and helpful. We placed our order and chowed down on the chips and salsa (ask for the spicy salsa, it is damn good with plenty of kick!) Our food arrived sizzling on a platter like fajitas should. My chicken fajitas were standard seasoned chicken served on a bed of bell peppers and onions (mostly onions wish there were a few more peppers). The typical Mexican sides came with it, refried beans (you could order black beans instead), rice, lettuce, pico and guacamole. The whole meal was good but nothing spectacular (hence the 3 star rating). My wife ordered the 3 taco dinner which also was just OK. La Carreta is so close to our house we may come back here again just because of the convenience of this place, but if we are looking for an over the top Mexican dinner we will have to go else where.

This place is amazing. We visit twice a week. Jose and Africa are great owners, and make us feel special every time we come in. Very consistent food (try the Tampequena steak) and the bean dip. These employees care and it shows. The bar area is perfect to move to at the end of the night for some music and margaritas. Try the CoronaRita and If you're REALLY nice Africa will start pouring tequila shots!! A+. Espinaca is great.

Great place to bring the family. Well priced with great, non-greasy chips & salsa. Nice, quick service & decent margaritas.

Been several times and always good food and great service. Great bar area as well with many TVs. Some of the booths have TVs as well.

Nothing special here. The food is OK, but nothing to rave about. The service is average to poor. I met a friend for dinner there one night After we finished eating we sat and talked for a while while finishing our drinks. A manger came over and actually asked us to leave our seats and move to the bar because he was busy and needed the seats. I have never had that happen at any restaurant anywhere in my entire life. This place will fail just like the others that have passed through this location. Olathe has much better Mexican restaurants that aren't too far away.

We joined Amy and Mike for a try of La Carreta that is just up the street. This has to be the forth or fifth restaurant that has gone in here in the last few year. If I have eaten at any of them they were not memorable. We put off going to La Carreta just thinking it would also be a flash in the pan. Wrong. This place is good! Casual Mexican - authentic, home made. Service - young hostess and wait staff. Cordial but inexperienced. Ambiance - this is a small place, crowded when we were there, loud from other patrons. Food - I had the Tampico Trio. It came on a plate the size of a wheel cover. Lots of food for a small amount of money and it was delicious! I couldn't eat it all and I tried. Perfectly seasoned, the chicken, beef and spinach enchiladas hit the spot. Soft, hot and full of flavor. Beer - Has to be the coldest in town. Their glasses are frozen and remain that way deep into the drink. I can't figure out how they do it.

With all of the Mexican Restaurant competition in Olathe, this place ranks low on the places to hit. The food is standard American style Mexican and a little on the bland side. The salsa has a good flavor, but absolutely no heat. Generally you will get a hot and mild, but they only served one and there was no spice. I had a fried taco, enchilada, and tamale special. Everything was just ok, None of the meat had much flavor to it. The red sauce was pretty mild and didn't have a lot of flavor. The beans were standard. The rice was nice as it had vegetables in with it. La Carreta seems more geared towards being a sports bar with food. Many of the tables have TVs right at the tables and big screens are placed all around the restaurant. The TVs at the table was covered in finger smudges. I was there shortly after 11 am so this wasn't from a day of use, not saying that would make it acceptable. Things like this make me question the attention to detail with cleaning.

First time we tried this place and everything was great! Way better than some reviews indicate. The chicken burrito magnifico lived up to its name. Fantastico! Service was very good and we received our food quickly. It's a very nice little restaurant with comfortable seating and lots of tvs. Definitely check this place out!

Was highly impressed. Went on a Sunday night after getting off work down the street. The patio was full. The inside had really fun and cute decorations. It is family owned and you defiantly feel that. They don't have the stress and rules like other local Mexican resturaunts. For example, if the bar tender wants a beer, he will sip a beer! They k ow how to run a place. You get awesome service. The feel to me was that they were so happy because the management is laid back ( in the upmost right way). They always remember regulars. The spinach enchiladas were very good. the entree comes with two enchiladas. i boxed one up to take home, along with salsa that the waiter gave me to take home. i ended up eating the rest an hour later when i got home lol so good! I also love their salsa! I'm a sauce girl! If you have great sauce, you've partially won me over! The ambience was awesome. I just loved the feel.

Giant Margaritas, good queso dip, and quick service. The three things that I always look for in a Mexican restaraunt. I've only eaten at La Carreta twice but my brother eats here probably once a week and loves it (if anyone knew my brother they would know thats a ringing endorsement). Each time I've had the Arrechera (sp?) tacos. They are essentially steak tacos with bacon. The staff is very friendly and the service quick. I've had great experiences both times I've been there.

The service was horrible! We were pretty much the only people there and had to wait and wait on our server. Never came back to check on us. We had to hunt someone down to get refills and more chips and salsa. Food was not great . Our stomachs hurt all day after eating there. Have eaten the gardner location and loved it!! Will not be back to this one.

The myriad of TV's lining the walls plus the small TV in our booth are nice if you're trying to keep track of a game score, but this place does not warrant the price in all other areas. The ambiance is very plain and sterile although the service was very attentive (however, our waitress spoke very little English and I had to write our drink orders on her order pad for her). Our food looked attractive when served, but it tasted like it was frozen and microwaved (it was also poorly seasoned ... one bite was bland and then the next bite was over-loaded with chili pepper). Dinner tasted like it was something frozen we could have bought at Price Chopper and microwaved at home. For the most part, the drinks were fairly well made, although I have never seen a Pina Colada served with a 3 inch mound of whipped cream (from a can) on top (and would never order it again). The bill of about $20 per person (food and 1 drink per person) was much higher than the food warranted. This is the kind of place that Gordon Ramsey could feature on one of his television programs as a place that was in need of some serious work to improve it.

This is the newest addition of tenants in the Arbor Creek shopping center. And it's pretty darn cool if you want to watch a basketball or football game. There are screens everywhere, viewable from every table. Some tables even have TVs in the booths with a private remote control. The food is similar to Mi Ranchito or Fronteras in the KC area. I had the chicken enchiladas with cream sauce, side of rice and beans. It was the special and was a little under $9. It was fantastic -- ate the whole thing. The menu was extensive (as you can see on the website). And they seemed to have a lively bar while we were there around 5:30. We'll be back.

Food is good. Margs are good. But service is not friendly. Wife and I were having apps, chips and salsa and drinks. They told us we had to move to bar or leave, they needed the table for other guests. We were paying customers. Buying expensive drinks. We should have been able to enjoy our night out. But no, the manager rudely told us we had to go. Boo. I guess we will frequent our other favorite Mexican restaurants from now on.

This is close to home for us and that is a definite plus. The staff were friendly and professional. We were served free chips and salsa as soon as we were seated and we asked for some spicy salsa as well. That was a very good decision - it had a heck of a kick! We especially liked mixing the regular with the hot salsa. We tried the Queso dip and it had a good flavor but ours was just lukewarm tho.... Hubby ordered a mexican beer and liked that it was served in a big frosty bowl! I had the carnitas de puerco which was very fresh tasting and I really liked the roasted jalapeño served with it. Hubby had the enchiladas suizas plate and he was very happy with it. He liked that the dish was not swimming in a cream sauce; but had just enough to enhance the overall flavor. We thought that the prices were average and pretty much what you would expect for a local tex-mex place. Overall it was a very good experience.

The hubs and I ate here Saturday night. They were busy, but we only had to wait about 10 min to get a table. Meanwhile, I ordered a margarita at the bar and it was excellent! Our waiter was knowledgable, friendly and efficient. I ordered a beef chimichanga and my husband ordered steak and chick fajitas. Both of our entrees were outstanding! This will definitely move to one of our regular places to eat.

I have went twice and will not return. Food is decent and you won't leave hungry but the service is not focused on customer service. The first visit, I was meeting two girlfriends. The place was empty so I asked the man who seated me if we could sit in the larger booth across the aisle. He asked me why since we only had three people in our party. Really?? The place was empty! Why would he care? He did move us when I told him that we wanted to stretch out and be more comfortable. Then when I presented my Free coupon for dip, he told me that we all had to order beverages even though I had purchased a margarita. I questioned him that my cocktail was more expensive than three sodas..he finally said he would make exception. Then one of the other girl asked for a substitution, and the same man said it wasn't possible. Each of us in our group are elementary Ed teachers. We actually began to tease him that his restaurant had more rules than our classrooms! He did have a sense of humor when we called him on it. Fast forward a few months. My daughter and I went for lunch on a Saturday and took advantage of the lunch specials that are offered on the weekends..which is a nice thing. This time we had a female server, who when I was digging around for my coupon, told me not to worry that they had extras at the bar. I thought that was fantastic customer service! Lunch was good, and they have generous portions. Server did a great job..then the man came by. He checked in on us and I requested a refill on my soda. I was brought a half full soda! My daughter and I burst into laughter! Lord have mercy if they should give me a full refill! Maybe this man has something against blondes! Seriously. though food is good enough, I'd rather go to one of the other Olathe Mexican places where they are a little more customer service oriented.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
