I walked right into a nursing home....okay for those of you that want to take your grandparents out this is your restaurant. It was great b/c we had bunch of kids and they can look at the stuffed zoo they have in glass cases! Yes....seriously. The food was decent but nothing healthy, salad bar is brown iceberg and ranch....basically home cookin'. The decor is like that 70's show. We were the youngest people in the joint. However, the young server was AMAZING. He was so friendly and our kids made a mess and w/o skipping a beat he said "that's why you go out to eat" and he was sincere! Would love to give more stars for that but overall I will not be back to eat.

Everything was really good. I didn't have anything that wasn't. The decor was in definite need of an upgrade. The service was great my water never got empty. I would definitely go back.

Southern hospitality and great catfish. David Hampton is very warm and friendly. Love the outdoor patio seating.

The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The food was good and there was a lot of it. My favorite parts of the meal were the mashed potatoes and the hush puppies. I got the parmesan creamed catfish and my husband got all you can eat catfish. Mine was okay the parmesan took over the fish a bit too much rather than complementing it.

I finally had business to tend to in Olathe and immediately thought about trying Jumpin' Catfish. I wish I wouldn't have. Its location is not very GPS friendly, but we did manage to find it tucked away in a strip mall a bit disguised from plain sight. As soon as you walk in the door it seems like you've found a time machine wormhole that dropped you off in a Twilight Zone episode from a 1970s fish camp. The decor is very gawdy, however there is a nice fish tank which looks to be superbly maintained. The ambience of the place is further disrupted with a TV located in the bar area blaring out the audio of the news channel instead of Muzak playing in the dining room. The light fixtures above all of the tables had two bulbs but each one was only burning one of them. Some of them had one bulb completely missing. Ok, so the place is weird. So what? It's really just a side observation. The real heart and soul of this one-star review lies solely on the food. I got the AYCE catfish, she got the AYCE fried chicken. My catfish looked good, but that's as good as it got. It was extremely dry, and so crisp on the edges that it was borderline jerky. I didn't even finish the first portion they brought out. Her fried chicken was very dark. That's always a signal that the fryer oil is dirty. Her chicken was also terribly dry and overcooked. She didn't finish her first helping either. We left hungry. The service was mediocre and it wasn't busy. We were there at 3:15PM on a Tuesday. The AYCE table tent is ambiguously worded. It says that catfish and fried chicken are AYCE every day (no price on the tent), then it separates into a listing of the daily AYCE specials which are priced. We expected catfish and chicken to be considerably less. Yes, we should have asked, but we left feeling price gouged. $41.xx for one serving of an AYCE order with quality that fell well below the Mendoza line. The fried chicken and catfish at Peachtree BUFFET on Eastwood Trfwy are WAY better and WAY cheaper. If I'm saying that a buffet was better than cooked-to-order food, then that ought to tell you how bad it was at Jumpin' Catfish. We were horribly disappointed all the way around and would not recommend anyone go out of their way to try this place.

Unbelievable goodness, I had the Quail and Catfish...awesome! The sides are very generous and the hush puppies fantastic. Great atmosphere and the most friendly staff...I will return often.

I was looking for a place to eat some catfish, found this place on yelp. I have to say if you leave this place hungry, it's not their fault. Great food and allot of it. Great employees, very nice and friendly. This is a great place if you're by yourself or with the family.

Great place for great food and quality service! Will be back. All of the food was wonderful and the whole family enjoyed it!

Decor is absolutely hideous, which seems to be the overall theme for this place. Wish they would put some effort in the quality of food as well.

I had never been to Jumpin' Catfish before, but when I found out they have all-you-can-eat crab on Thursdays, I knew this was where I wanted to spend my birthday! I was not disappointed. People grouse that the all-you-can eat crab costs $30, but if you devour crab like it's your second full-time job the way I do, it's well worth it. The crab legs are very meaty and cooked to perfection (not boiled beyond soggy recognition like the casinos and even sometimes Red Lobster do). Speaking of specials, this place has a lot of good ones. Tuesday - all-you-can-eat fried quail, Wednesday - all-you-can-eat shrimp, Thursday - all-you-can-eat crab legs, and Friday - live Maine lobster tail special. And Sunday you can order ANY of the weekly all-you-can-eat specials. The chicken livers and gizzards are really good (livers in particular). Fried clams are worth a special shout-out too. You can also build your own feast from the extensive meat or seafood menu which gives way too many options to list. Bring your appetite - the down-home cookin' here is AWESOME.

I was not impressed with this place. I ordered the Catfish and it was cold, mushy, mealy and over cooked. The wait staff was the saving grace. Very nice, and attentive.

We eat at Jumpin Catfish quite often; we are never disappointed. We arrive hungry and leave full. I recommend everything from fried chicken, fried catfish, boiled shrimp and the Thursday night "all you can eat Crablegs! Of course you can't leave hungry because of the wonderful white beans, hush puppies and out if this world cole slaw. Jumpin Catfish is an all around great place to eat.

Very home like atmosphere, catfish Friday's are home style & delicious. Everything is served family style for the all you can eat catfish & I normally don't care for slaw but there's is very good. There was s party if six of us & they have a large corner booth, friendly wait staff & good coffee.

Love the Catfish Nuggets lunch. I used to come here for the all you can eat crablegs, but prices have increased so much that it's hard to justify bringing the whole family here for that. Regardless of price, I prefer Jumpin Catfish to the buffets when it comes to the crab. It's always hot and not fighting other people over it. The complimentary sides are good. It's the only Cole slaw I will eat anywhere. Hush Puppy's are good. Beans are not my fav but plenty of food available that they don't need to be.

Finally got to try Jumpin' Catfish recently - we went over with a group of 5 for a Friday night dinner. It was busy, and we had to wait awhile, but it wasn't long (5-10 minutes). Our waitress was obviously very busy, but was still very attentive and helpful. I didn't necessarily feel in a mood for fish, so I ordered a fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes. Positives: -Nice assortment of food on the menu -Awesome mashed potatoes Negatives: -Wider selection of fish would be nice -Could be tough to find, as it's tucked away in a strip mall off 151st St. Overall, the food was solid - but it just felt a little blah to me, nothing special. I also wish I would've gotten some catfish instead of chicken - a return trip might be necessary to get a better review.

This place grew on me. It was tough to find, as the sign wasn't lit up and there weren't too many cars out front. So we drove around the lot a bit before figuring out exactly where it was. And then it took longer that I like for a waitress to find us. But once she did, the rest of the experience was pretty good. Before you've even ordered, they put plates of hush puppies, cole slaw and beans in front of you. (They even refilled them, unsolicited, when we asked for a take-out box for our entrees.) The menu is about what you'd expect from a restaurant of this name. We found the catfish to be pretty decent, and the chicken fried steak was good, too. The service was what you'd expect from a good mom & pop place-- that is to say, friendly and mostly attentive, even if you have to wait quite awhile at the cashier's stand upon exiting.

Always great food and lots of it at a reasonable price. Far better choice than say, Red Lobster or one of the large chains.

The beans and coleslaw that come with every entree are delicious. I was interested to find out they have quite the selection if game meats. Their weekday specials are quite the win as well. Quality food and exciting atmosphere. Always something to look at with all the animals on the walls.

So I FINALLY got around to trying Jumpin Catfish, and it was awesome! First off, the service was incredibly friendly, from the second I walked in till the second I walked out I was treated as a priority- all my questions answered, all my needs addressed, very delightful! The food was also incredible, with a wide and unique range of food I'd never seen in the area before- quail, frog legs, ect.- something for EVERYONE! They also have all you can eat qual and crab leg nights weekly (all you can eat crab? Dear diary- JACKPOT!!!) And the last thing I've noticed, which I've literally never seen before, is that when they get bad reviews on review websites, the actual OWNER takes the time to address the bad review, apologize, and offer to make it right. That blew me away after reading a few of those, as most owners either seem to genuinely not care, or just ignore and flake off the bad reviews. The fact the owner actually cares is refelcted in all aspects of this establishment, and it is definately worth a try. You can't find this kind of variety, quality, care from owners, or all you can eat crab legs anywhere else now, can you? ;D

LOVE Jumpin' Catfish. Always get the catfish. Love the hush puppies and tartar sauce. Good value, friendly staff. Definitely a family run business. We always see the owner and he is super friendly.

Short version: Hushpuppy basket - 2.5 (4/5 - would have been good if they came out hot) Stuffed crab a la carte - 6.99 (3/5 - just okay. I could probably make better at home.) Scallops - 7.99 (0/5) Diet coke - no price on the menu (After 30 minutes of me pushing it to the side of the table because it was empty, I finally asked her to refill it. I don't think I have to ask for my drink to be refilled at a restaurant when I'm clearly still eating.) (drink gets no rating) Peach Cobbler heated up - 3.79 (1/5 - Kind of gross. I don't want to taste microwaved cobbler with way too much butter and canned peaches. This was literally a bowl of mush. Portion was large, though.) Pecan Pie (to go) - 3.89 (5/5 - awesome) Service - She was very friendly when she was talking to me, but she was so busy that her visits to my table were few and far between. Maybe she thought that as a 1 top I wouldn't tip very much so she didn't visit me? There were a couple of times when she'd go to every table around me and skip mine. (5/10) Came with beans and coleslaw, but I asked her to take those back, wasn't going to eat them. (no rating) Ambiance - Description below (1/5) Total: 19/40 - Should be 2.5 stars, but I'll give 3 because I think biggest reason the service was slow was because they were WAY understaffed. I came in with my laptop so I could do schoolwork and asked for a table with an outlet connection available. They didn't have one. That's okay; a lot of places can't accommodate that. I sat down at a 4 person booth and missed any ambiance. The place looks super dated with animals mounted on the wall and gross woodsy-lodge wallpaper. And there's plaid carpet - yes, plaid carpet. There was NO MUSIC. I could hear the waitress call out orders in the kitchen. This was kind of unappealing for a sit-down restaurant. I was the youngest person in there and I kind of felt like I was in an elderly home. Everyone was in the 60-80 range. I don't feel like sitting between two tables of elderly men talking about their medication needs. The dining room was pretty full, especially by the end of my meal (1pm) almost every table was taken. A party of 12 even came in. There was one waitress for the whole place. Although she greeted me about a minute after I sat down saying, "I'll be right back to ya," she didn't get to me for about 5 more minutes. She didn't write down my order on anything, but seemed to remember it pretty well. Hushpuppy basket came out in less than 2 minutes. No sauce was served with it. They were slightly cold. Scallops and crab came out about 5 minutes after that. I bit into a scallop; it was kind of raw in the center. Gross. Also, it came with 13 mini-scallops, not the 7 large scallops advertised. I waited 10 minutes for my waitress to come over and check if I was doing okay to tell her about the scallops. I don't normally complain about my food at restaurants, but I don't want to get sick from raw sea fish! She was very understanding and took it right back for a correction. She came back after speaking to the chef and said that he would make me a new order, plus 4 extra, and that the chef was new and every embarrassed. When the next order came out, they were cooked through. However, I still had to rip each in half to inspect murkiness of it. The ones that had a lot of milky liquid were obviously old and had gone bad. Again, I didn't want to get sick. I didn't complain, but was disappointed that I couldn't enjoy all of my scallops; only 4 of them were edible. The ones that were safe to eat tasted good. The crab was okay. It was a creamy mixture with a slightly crisp coating due to frying. It had red and green bell peppers inside. It was just okay. I think if it had been heated more, I would have enjoyed it more. Halfway through my meal two 40-somethings came in! Finally, someone just double my age. Woohoo! The mashed potato was pretty good. A little too peppery for me, but that's my personal taste. Cocktail dipping sauce for the scallops was good with the hush puppies. At the end of my meal, I felt pretty sick. I only ate about a quarter of my food, and was full, but I think it's from swallowing a raw scallop that was making me feel this way. I am disappointed that I purchased 2 groupons because I'm sure that I won't be back.
