This place is more fusion than Mexican in my opinion. We came here with friends and squeezed into a booth (this place is really small inside). Service started off quick, got our orders and brought an appetizer quickly. Once we received our meals, our waitress (or waitresses?! We were helped by four different girls) was no where to be found and/or hard to wave down. We all agreed the food was just okay. The avocado salad was pretty good (but still, it was a SALAD). The fish taco was actually pretty gross - super fishy and not at all fresh tasting (we're in Kansas - got it). We'll probably give this place another try or two because it is so cute insdie and holds a lot of promise, but I don't think we'll keep our expectations of this place too terribly high.

I have gone way too long without ever trying this place. I have always limited myself to eating at the other Tex-Mex place in Aggieville (which is also phenomenal). The wait was too long there, so I ended up at Taco Lucha. Wow! Just awesome food and atmosphere. I love the eclectic decorating as well. The patio is the best in the 'Ville. Will definitely go back. Aggieville is quickly becoming a top notch destination for amazing Tex-Mex.

I'm one visit this place quickly became my favorite place to eat in Aggieville. The black bean and raspberry appetizer is like crack in a skillet...I could go on about how amazing the burritos and tacos are but I'll let you find out for your self. If you love tex mex, a fun atmosphere, and good beer! This place is for you...

Small but fast indoor seating area as well as outdoor patio when weather permits. Very good place to go for lunch! The menu isn't extensive but has Mexican variety and everything is delicious and fresh! I just love the Mexican wrestler theme they have going on too! So colorful and fun!

Since I've had So-long-saloon before, I knew the experience should be the same. Walking inside the establishment, the place was packed. All the booth seats, tables, and bar was packed. Even the seating to wait for a table was full. Even though we had no place to sit at the time, the owner got our drink orders in and let us have our drink until we finally got our seating. It was just the 3 of us at the time, and I think we only waited about 15-20 minutes. This all happened on a Sunday afternoon. The place is very colorful, and well decorated for a restaurant to be themed over the Luchadors or in English, Mexican wrestling. The ceiling tiles were gold and decorated, and there were some interesting chandeliers as well. What makes this place shine is the extremely good customer service. The owner, waitresses are there to make sure everything is going well for their customers. Each food that gets sent out, is inspected by the owner. That's good quality control there. Waitresses don't pester you too much, and know when your drink is low. The menu is fairly small, but simple. You'll most likely spend about 10-12 dollars for yourself, so it's not too expensive. The tacos I ordered were the: El Mexicano, Buffalo Chicken, and Slayer Taco. My friends ordered the Burritos, which there are 3 to choose from. Our order probably only took 15-20 minutes to be made and served. My plate of tacos was colorful, fresh, and original. Each taco comes on with 2 freshly made tortillas. Although not huge, enough to fill you up. The burritos my friends had were huge and smothered with melted cheese. They didn't really look all the special to me. Just looks like something you can get at any Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere and service are top notch. Definitely a good experience and will come back.

These are not your typical tacos. They are upscale now flavors that you don't normally expect from a mexican restaurant. I get 2 to 3 tacos depending on how hungry I am, and will go here multiple times a week. It never gets old. You have variety from the normal El Mexicano Taco with steak, cilantro, cheese, and a creamy sauce, to the eccentric buffalo chicken tacos. Always try the specials too, they never disappoint.

Great tacos, delicious margaritas, and really good guacamole & salsas. I would give it 5 stars if the service weren't consistently lacking. I've never had a nice waitress when visiting Taco Lucha and I've had to ask for things multiple times each time I've been. Still, the food is too good to give anything less than 4 stars. It's a must-visit in Manhattan...just ignore the waitresses.

For Manhattan, KS, this place is the bomb diggity. Their El Mexicano Taco is my favorite thus far. I tried The Beast Burrito last night, of which the main meat is chorizo and it was delicious!! I can't wait to try everything else on the menu! The ambiance of this place is really soothing and chill, which I like. And the owner is of course, the same person who owns So Long and he is always friendly and funny. If this place were in southern California, I would probably give is 4 stars, but because the selection in Kansas is a bit on the slim side, I definitely can give it 5 stars as it's now one of my most favorite restaurants to eat at here! =)

Kansas isn't the place most think about when it comes to awesome food finds but I really love the local restaurants they have in the Manhattan area. Taco Lucha happened to be one of those gems! The decor was pretty cool as well. We went on the ONLY day in March that was above 70 degrees, the weather was amazing so we decided to sit outside on their beautiful patio. They have a small menu but everything sounded delicious! My friend and I shared the guac and fire roasted salsa with chips appetizer, the guac was so yummy and I LOVED the salsa! I had the buffalo chicken taco and the fish taco. They were both super yummy!!!! I've found that most places that sell fish tacos tend to go overboard in frying the fish and it usually turns out really hard and chewy, but the tilapia they used for the tacos were slightly pan fried and turned out just right. The chicken taco had this awesome jalapeño ranch that was tasty, I am not a big fan of ranch but the hint of jalapeño made it way better. My friend had the slayer and the black and blue.. the steak was cooked perfectly and they have these amazing aioli sauces they top the tacos with, we had the jalapeño aioli and blue cheese.. both were great! They also have a pretty good drink menu, and several different types of margaritas. Their sangria was soooo delicious! They also have different flavored margaritas, I would definitely give the banana one a try, it was awesome, not super sweet either. It kind of tasted like a banana laffy taffy with a bit less sugar! Taco lucha has a small menu, from the name you can obviously guess its mostly tacos and a few other specialties, but you wont be disappointed! The prices are pretty good too! We only ended up spending about 40 bucks and we also had drinks.

The art of customer service is lost in Aggieville, and Taco Lucha is no exception. We were greeted by 3 obnoxious teenage girls, seated, rushed to order, & rushed to exit. The rude waitress even took the tip from the table before we had stood up to leave. No matter how tasty the food may be, the service gave us no time to savor our meal. We will not return - if you want to enjoy your meal, I suggest staying out of Aggieville and venturing to the outskirts. Baan Thai, The Chef, Della Voce, Harry's, and Umi are all much more pleasant than a wasted hour at Taco Lucha.

  • Kelly L.

Taco Lucha has a fun vibe and the servers are very friendly. The seating area is fairly small so be prepared for a wait during the busy times but I think it is worth it. I had guacamole and chips for an appetizer. You could tell that it was made fresh with big chunks of avocado...delicious! For my meal, I had a chicken tinga taco and a black and blue (steak with bacon) taco. Two tacos were definitely enough to fill me up and well worth the $3 each. Both meats were nicely spiced and the flavors of the toppings blended well together. Wish I lived in manhattan...I would want to try everything on this menu!

The menu and service were very good and the atmosphere was fun. The server refilled my glass constantly. The hot beef taco was great as well at the chicken. The fish tasted a bit old but we're from the coast, so may be a little spoiled. I'd go back.

Taco Lucha has only been open a few months but it's becoming one of my favorite spots for lunch or dinner in Aggieville. Like Dan I would almost be willing to give a five star. There are just a couple of things that you might enjoy that didn't suit my palate. I've made an effort to try different items on the menu. So far my favorite has been the El Mexicano Taco. It's one of the most simple but I think this allows the flavors to shine. I also recommend the Fish Taco and the Black & Blue Taco. My least favorite has been the Slayer Taco. It wasn't a bad taco but I found the taste of all the peppers overpowered the taste of the steak. I was also excited to see them juicing fresh fruit for their drinks and made it a point of ordering one of their specialty drinks. My friend also ordered one. It was funny, neither cared for the drink we ordered. Mine was much sweeter than I expected. We tried each others, ended up liking the drink the other person had ordered and switched so it all worked out. The atmosphere is fun and funky. Get there early because it fills up FAST. I'm really looking forward to trying out more of their dishes.

This place is great. Very happy when it opened up. It's tiny so you'll want to be prepared to wait if you go at a busy time but it's worth it. All the food is amazing, and you get huge portions if you get one of the burritos. I definitely recommend the raspberry chipotle black bean dip (very happy they brought this from So Long's). Regular college waitresses, which are generally fun and chatty and a decent selection of imported Mexican beers make this place one of those I crave now that I don't live in Manhattan anymore.

Super delicious tacos and drinks! Have enjoyed the tacos many times and they are great priced too!

Hands down my favorite spot in town to eat. I'm there at least once a week downing tacos and throwing back a couple beers. The food is stellar, the atmosphere is unique and the staff treats you like family. Many other spots could take a lesson from this place.

Good place to get a drink and few tacos

Pretty damn tasty. Good iced tea. Delicious nachos, some of the best in town. I had the Pork and pineapple salsa taco and a Chicken Tinga taco and they both tasted very good. Really over-stuffed little tacos with good filling. It's not authentic, but that's not the point here, it's just good food. Server was also SUPER nice. I'll definitely come back to try more things (and get the nachos again).

This place is great. Great atmosphere, great food, cant ask for more than what you get here at Taco Lucha. I got the El Mexicano tacos and they were delicious. Got one with steak, chicken, and pork. The pork one was ok but the other two were delicious. Would definitely go back.

  • Travis H.

Taco Lucha is some of the best Mexican food I have had in Kansas. The aoli sauce they put on their Mexican-styled tacos put them over the top. I will definitely be back again.

  • Garret D.

The best tacos in Manhattan. They have some very unique flavors that you wouldn't think would be good together, but turn out amazing. The service is pretty good, but not the fastest. The place can get crowded. Don't forget to get the chipotle-raspberry black bean dip, you will not regret it.

  • R.j. H.

The atmosphere was great! Nice staff and good music. The hot sauce was on point, and that is a deal breaker for my wife and I. We both had the buffalo chicken tacos which delivered the best taco experience in Manhattan. Definitely will be coming back for our taco fix.

I was in town for my daughter's sorority's mom's (triple possessive again - not sure if that is grammatically correct...) weekend and we came here for dinner on a Friday night around 7. The place was PACKED!!!! It is a very brightly decorated place with lucha libre masks and other mexican wrestling related items. Hence the name. Even though the place was packed, the owner/manager pushed his way through the crowd as each person entered, asked them how many were in their party, told them how long it would be before they were seated and took their drink orders. No asking for a credit card or money - he just made a note by each parties' name. Very proficient and efficient. It took us about 20 minutes or so to get seated and I kept on hearing kids order a "nancy". What is a nancy, I ask. It is an Old Milwaukee with pineapple juice (fresh) and it is only $2. I order one and it is actually good! Yay! I feel like one of the kids. OK, maybe not. We are seated at the bar and the bartender waits on us. She is very personable and chatty, as are the patrons and all the other servers. A very up-beat place. We ask the bartender several questions about the menu and decide on the chipotle raspberry & bean dip (my daughter's idea) which everyone raves about. She gets a couple of fish tacos and I get one slayer taco (spicy) and one buffalo chicken taco. We get our appetizer in a few minutes. It is very good. I'm not a huge fan of black beans and I really liked the appetizer. In about 15 minutes more we get our main dishes. The plate presentation was very nice. These are street tacos served on two small soft corn shells. All three types of tacos are good. I probably wouldn't order the buffalo chicken again, just because I prefer spicy, but I wanted to try something a bit different. This will probably be an annual stop during mom's weekend for us. Not sure if I would want to mess with the crowd during a football weekend, though. Great place!

I crave their grilled romaine salad on a weekly basis. It is amazing! Only wish the place was a bit bigger so the wait time wasn't always so long! So yummy though!

Fantastic tacos, the best we've ever had in Manhattan. We will definitely be back. Don't miss the black bean dip, it is sweet with creamy cheese and a touch of raspberry. Really different and really amazing!

Taco Lucha is the best Mexican Food Restaurant in manhattan! From the tasty raspberry black bean dip, to the friendly and fun ambiance they never seen to disappoint. I am a huge fan of the fish tacos with extra tinga sauce. The raspberry black bean dip is an amazing mix and highly addictive. Once you try it, you will be hooked!

  • Sarah D.

My friends and I love going to go here for dinner. Their El Mexicano tacos and the raspberry bean dip are my favorites! The restaurant is very cute, the patio is even better. The only con is how small this place is. The wait times are ridiculous if you go during the dinner rush or on a game day

  • Lisa R.

This is a fun spot in Aggieville that you should come to at least once. The service is excellent and I love the patio. The food is so-so. I am from Texas so I am a bit particular about tacos. I understand this is fusion and have tried a variety of items on the menu, including various tacos, the famous chipotle-raspberry black bean queso dip, different house salsas, and the grilled salad. Everything is okay, but nothing is really wow. For spicy fans, get the slayer and tinga tacos. Otherwise, the dip is a house special which is also available at the sister restaurant So Long Saloon next door. Today on the patio, the fireplace was going, which was nice. When you have to wait for a table, you can get drinks which is a nice touch.

  • Jules S.

The food was good, and the service was good, but it seemed a bit overpriced for what you get (especially when trying to order something for kids). I'm sure we'll go back, but not with the kids.

  • Heather J.

My most favorite thing here are the jalapeno poppers and the grilled salad. Sitting outside at night is the best. Though I really wish they would serve food later on the weekends. Or at least appetizers.

  • Amiami M.

I don't give a 5 star unless it's really a 5 and this place really is. We were in town for 3 days, ate here twice and ordered take out Delicious. The menu is pretty basic focused on Taco's but they are SO good! There are many options for your taco selection. Every one we tried was great. The chipotle raspberry and black bean dip was excellent. Even the naysayers in our group loved it. We had to order more. If you're in the area it's a must have. I wish we lived closer, I'd be a regular.

    (5)
  • Todd B.

Good place to go for lunch. The service was good and the food came out fast. I had the Slayer and Fish taco. Both had a lot of good flavor. I would come back again for lunch. The only con was it seemed a little overpriced for lunch, especially their chips and salsa appetizer. Popular spot in Aggieville, so apparently people don't mind paying that price.

  • Tiffany D.

The place was PACKED! Always a good sign. We followed recommendations off of Yelp and was not disappointed. We were traveling from CO to STL and thought "why not drive 7 miles off the exit for a good meal" Nachos, Black and Blue Tacos and regular Taco were spot on. If you are ever in need of a good Mexican fix while in Manhattan, this is the place.

  • Lucas F.

Just go to La hacienda mercado and taqueria if you want a taco. This place just puts aioli on everything and assumes that you won't notice that everything tastes the same.

Let this be known I'm a huge KU fan, and now that my Fiance lives in Manhattan I am splitting my time between KC and the dreaded rival town, there I said it! With that aside, my Fiance and I decided to explore Aggieville one night and Yelp lead us to Taco Lucha... Yay! We're fans! Probably one of our new go to spots for authentic Mexican food/Tacos. Came on a Saturday evening, around 7pm and it was packkked! Which totally caught us off guard, but the first thing the hostess asked us when we walked us was "What would you like to drink?"....now you're talking my language. Ordered a couple of STRONG alcoholic beverages while we wait. My fiance tried their Micheladas (which was ok, not quite right yet) and I had the Granada cocktail. 20 minutes later we were seated at the bar. We came here for the sole purpose of Tacos and (his) Michelada and tacos we got. Ordered the 4 different types: The Tinga, Slayer, Back & Blue, and Buffalo Chicken. They were delicious!! Tinga and Slayer won as the 2 favorites. Both had corn tortilla (my favorite type) and packed with crazy amounts of flavor! The slayer has a good spicy kick to it for those who is into that. Definitely need to try their appetizers next time, they sounded amazing. So Manhattan, touche with your delicious local tacos. You've found a new regular! Come check them out next time you're in Manhattan, they impressed me with their yummy food!

Wow. Tasty! Lots of great things on the menu and they all have a fresh fusion-style flair to them. This is a place you come back to for the things you loved and for the opportunity to try the things you're gonna love!

Parking spot Karma across the street - so I ran in for a quick bite before heading back home. Love the fish taco and the buffalo chicken taco. I've tried others, but they disappoint compared to these two. Also love the chips and salsa, even if there is an extra charge. Attentive servers, friendly. One of my favorite Aggieville locations!!

  • Kristen K.

This is probably the one restaurant I miss since moving away. My favorite tacos were the Mexicano and the black& bleu with beef. Nom nom. Their sangria or mango margaritas are great to wash it down with. This place is small and they don't have high chairs for kiddos, so plan on bringing a booster seat that attaches to the regular chair if you really need one. I absolutely adore their outdoor patio, but eating indoors at the bar with my husband on a date night is a treat as well. It shares a kitchen with the restaurant next door, but they're normally pretty expedient about getting food out. Sometimes the wait can get long, this place is popular for the right reasons....the food is amazing and normally the service is spot on. Definitely a place to stop at when you're in town.

I was certainly not expecting there to be a taco place in Aggieville that was anywhere near this good. Usually a bar district has substandard food that people will love because they're too drunk to know otherwise. Not this place. They have a standard for food, which I respect. On their lunch menu they had about 10 different types of tacos, all of which sounded pretty good. I decided to go with the classic carnitas taco, which had a pineapple salsa. The salsa was really sweet, almost too overpowering for the carnitas. My second taco was a "slayer" with chicken. No complaints. My third taco was the special, a seasoned steak with lots of crumbly cheese and all the goodies. Perfect. It was what sold the place to me. If I'm ever in town again, I'll be sure to stop by.

Bottom Line Up Front: Great tacos. Cool vibes. Try the Nancy (Old Milwaukee beer mix with fresh pineapple juice). Attentive and friendly Staff. Decided to come here with the fiance because it was the only mexican restaurant in Manhattan that served Michelada's. The drink was okay, not what I am use to being from Houston. That was the only downside of this place. Everything else was great. It was pretty packed but that was a good sign. While waiting, the hostess took our drink order. People were seated in a timely manner and the hostess was doing a solid job at keeping track of who was next up for a table. Once seated, we ordered four tacos: The Tinga, Slayer, Black & Blue and Buffalo Chicken. I personally recommend the Slayer and Buffalo Chicken. The Slayer is the best street taco I've ever had in my life. Packed with flavor! After being disappointed about the Michelada, I noticed a beer mixed with a juice that alot of patrons were ordering. The drink was called Nancy (Old Milwaukee and Pineapple juice) and tasted amazing. It only costs $2! Can't beat that. Definitely try this place out!

  • Amy C.

The restaurant is small but we went when they weren't too busy so we got a table right away. I ordered the stacked taco and it was huge! Well worth the price, I took home the leftovers and made it into 3 meals! It was delicious too. I would order it again. We also got chips and queso for an appetizer and that was good too.

This place is fun! With indoor and out door seating, and always pretty clean. I've never had a bad experience, and my food is always cooked perfectly. This place was like a hidden gem for my husband and I, and a refreshing change from the run of the mill chain restaurants in the area! I must say my favorite item on the menu had to be a portobello quesadilla, and even though it's an appetizer, it's so amazingly large it could be a full meal, haha! Their daily specials are always something to look at, and sometimes are the best thing on the menu!!

This is a must stop in Manhattan. The service is great, and everyone is super friendly. They have a great selection of appetizers (their salsas, and raspberry-black bean dip are mmmazing), entrees, and tacos. Their specialty drinks are just what you need if you love tequila or want to feel like you have gone south for a visit. I highly recommend the carnitas or fish tacos and a Poloma to drink. If you want something a little more affordable to drink, you can never go wrong with a Nancy (pineapple beer) for $2.50. Make sure you try to sit outside if it's nice! It MAKES the experience just right! Sitting inside can be loud and difficult for conversation, especially in the evening. This place is definitely a regular stop for me!

I really enjoyed our meal here. They were pretty busy and ended up sitting at the bar but the service was awesome and they definitely took care of us. The tacos are delicious and fresh and the margaritas were really good too- especially the mango! My boyfriend ended up stealing mine because it was so tasty. The only downsides were the wait and the limited menu- its basically a few burritos and tacos - but its good stuff.

I'm on the road every week all year long for work. Needless to say, I eat out constantly. This is my favorite place to eat of everywhere I've ever been. Period. I'll make the drive all the way into Manhattan whenever I'm passing by on interstate on my way home just for a couple of their chicken jap razz tacos and a nancy. Some of their creations may strike you as peculiar, but trust me it's gonna be good. Plus, where else can you find old milwaukee on tap in Kansas? That's just klassy :)

The best tacos in town! Try any of the tacos, the lucha taters, guacamole and the grilled ensalada... they are all amazing! Love the fun atmosphere and friendly staff!

Great tacos. It's in the name. Been there a lot, and with the variety of options it usually doesn't get old. They also often have good specials to augment the normal menu. The margaritas are also done well, which isn't a given for a lot of Mexican fusion restaurants. The atmosphere is fun, it does get noisy on game nights, but no where near to the extent of a bar. The outside seating is also nice l, weather permitting. No real complaints.

Fantastic fusion tacos. The buffalo chicken taco is completely crave-worthy and their sangria and margaritas are wonderful. It's a tiny spot, so expect a wait during peak hours. There is outdoor seating, though.

This is a favorite spot of mine in Aggieville. They have a great outdoor patio and fun interior. I've been here many times and have only ever had great service. The drinks are great- personal favorite is the Paloma. But of course the real stars are the tacos- all are fantastic. They aren't too big, so I love how you can order just the right amount of food!

I asked my server to decide which two tacos I should try and he ordered it up! They were the best tacos I've had!!! Try the Peanut Butter taco on Tuesday, the beef was tender and the sauces were divine. Can wait to come back.

It was my first time taking my wife to Aggieville and the first restaurant we went to was this Mexican joint. Looked like your average bar that happened to sell Mexican food. The environment was good and I really liked the outside patio for some reason. They didn't wipe off the tables before they sat us down, but whatever I'm a dude i don't care, my wife noticed it right away and pointed it out. The menu was small but I assume they are really good with what they make. The tacos that I had were really good and priced very reasonable. I liked very much overall and would try it again.

Super fun bar & restaurant. Creative tacos in a colorful atmosphere. Both the pork and fish tacos were delish! Ask for the daily special, it's not on the menu. Not for folks sensitive to noise, it's loud, so go when you want to be in party mood. Great people watching, too. Yum!

    A. This little taco joint in Manhappiness, KS is one of the best restaurants in town. They have all kinds of taco variations, from traditional street tacos to wild concoctions that I would have never thought up (looking at you Peanut Butter Taco). Their beer selection is great. And their house margaritas are muy strong. Their service is fantastic as well. Also, they are attached to one of the best bars ever: The So Long Saloon. This, and CoCo Bolos, are my go to places every time I'm back in town, which is not often enough.

This is our go-to Mexican restaurant in Manhattan. The food is fresh and tasty and the house made sauce on the table is killer. I could eat it with a spoon by itself! The fish tacos are a favorite as is the avocado salad. This is one of the few places outside of New Mexico or Colorado that serves green chili, too! Haven't had anything here I don't absolutely love. Well worth stopping in and waiting for a table in their cozy dining room.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
