3/5 Stars from me. Cox Brothers was okay to good BBQ, but far from the better BBQ places in the region (For that, go east to Kansas City). I had the Brisket, beans and fries. The brisket was a little dry and the taste made me think it has been sitting around for a while. It did not taste fresh. The portion size was ample and the meat was fairly lean (which may have contributed to it being a little dry). The beans were fantastic. Nice, large chunks of pork, with a hearty, smokey flavor. I was a bit disappointed in the available BBQ sauces. The "original" sauce was too vinegar-y. It tasted more like Memphis/Southern style BBQ. Not Kansas-style BBQ, at all. The other sauces were mediocre. The best of the group was the "jazz" sauce. It was tangy and spicy. For a restaurant of this time, and for the quantity and quality of food, Cox Brothers seemed rather expensive. Expect to pay somewhere in the range of $15 or more per person by the time you add in "extras" and sales tax. That wouldn't be bad for a more upscale place, but Cox has the feel of a fast food joint. All in all, it wasn't bad. I'd give it another shot. It certainly isn't the best BBQ I've ever had, but neither was it the worst.

I'm not a BBQ snob -- and I'm not a 1000% carnivore ... That being said... The Mr. ordered a 3-piece rib. I don't like ribs -- he almost ate the bone. Enough said. He also had the turkey sandwich. Tender and juicy. He also had the coleslaw --if you're not a fan of pineapple you won't like the slaw. Just a heads up. I liked -- he didn't. I had smoke stack nachos -- best of both worlds -- smoke stack meat was really good (juicy, flavorful). It also had tortilla chips (duh, nachos!), baked beans (super delish!), cheese, and jalapeños with a little side of sour cream. Tasted great with 2 different sauces: the TX and vinegar based ones (ahhh! Specific names are at a loss for the moment!!). I'd definitely order the smoke stack sandwich and baked beans as another option solely based off what I ordered today. Drive through is a plus. Bottom line-- great meats, sides, and sauce options. We were there mid-afternoon could definitely see this place busy in evenings and weekends!

Great BBQ! Get the nachos, they are amazing. The service is good too. The sauce was a little runny, but still very tasty. I wouldn't get the I-70 fries, they were limp and soggy. Get the sweet potato fries instead. They also have a drive-thru that goes pretty fast, would recommend if you are picking up dinner for a large group or family.

The best thing I could say about this place is the help was nice. The ribs were dry, over cooked and fatty, the brisket was tender but no flavor and the slaw was ok.

They had 4 different kinds of sauce to choose from. Of course, I tried all 4! Pulled pork was very tasty with the mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. The mac and cheese was slightly spicy. It was exactly what I had been craving!

As good as Memphis Bbq. I Coming from me that's a huge compliment. I with I think 4 diferent sauces and great brisket. I think Cox's is a hands down number 1 choice for lunch or dinner. And probably one if the best eateries for 100 miles. Just wish there portions were bigger or they would have gotten 5 stars.

This was a surprising suggestion made by someone we went to visit in Manhattan. Cox Biro's obviously made for many inappropriate jokes. lol Its a nice chain style restaurant, Lots of hats hanging from the ceiling. Order at the front of the line and pick it up at the end of the line. Now, being a southern girl, Its very hard to please my BBQ needs. This wasn't bad. It wasn't the best. Everyone in the group we were with enjoyed the BBQ. Between us all I think we had every kind of meat on the menu. No complaints by any of us. Just be forewarned the mac n cheese has some spice to it! All in all I would go back if I was in town and had a hankering for some BBQ.

I really want to like this place, I really do. We recently moved here from Kansas City where we were in close proximity to award-winning bbq. Being realists, we understand that not many BBQ joints can live up to Gates or OK Joe's, so were not expecting too much from Cox BBQ. Good thing, because it was not great. Pulled pork is decent, brisket is dry with not much flavor, and the chicken is very plain. I do like being able to choose from a variety of sauces which helps cover up the taste (or non-taste) of the meat. Fries have always been soggy. We have only used the drive-thru which, judging from the other reviews on yelp, might be our problem. The drive-through is very slow and we have received the wrong order or something was wrong with our order 5 out of the 5 times we have been there. We will probably go back because a girl's gotta get her barbecue fix every so often, but I will certainly not be too excited about it.

My wife and I have gone here on multiple occasions. We are from Texas and know all about great BBQ, and this is the closest it comes to getting some quality bbq in Manhattan. The other "Famous" place sucks in my opinion. The fact that Cox BBQ has multiple sauces is the winning device. Simply put, great BBQ!

Just returned from the Cotton Bowl where they cooked Cox BBQ....Ribs to die for and spicy chicken, couldn't have been better. I have missed this place while in Manhattan and can't believe what i was missing,,,,,,,,don't pass this place up! The Cox Bro's know BBQ

Had it for the first time yesterday at their Junction City location. The ribs were good, but the outside was as tough as shoe leather. The sweet potato fries were warm. My wife liked the Smokestack. I was very disappointed with the sauces. I like BBQ sauce to be thick so it doesn't drip right off the meat. The sauces are very watery and a couple of them tasted too much alike. We may eat here again in a pinch, but won't make a special trip.

Very impressed with their well-cooked but still juicy Beef Brisket and tender pulled pork. Great for lunch sandwich. Cannot go wrong with these two. The smoke turkey is also a decent choice for whit meat diners. Now the Smoked BBQ ribs. 10 hours of smoking produced very tender and fall-of-bone ribs. However, apparently, the quality controls of cooking varies every time I went. Sometimes it is very good, but some other times are under-cooked. Most of the meats are unseasoned or lightly seasoned. They will have to go with their 4 different in-house sauces. You got to try to find which one is your personal favor. For sure it is great place to dine with family and few good friends if they can have better controls of the smokers.

I've given this place multiple chances all through their drive-thru. If the inside experience is anything like their drive-thru experience I would have to say their customer service is horrendous. Not ONE time have I encountered a friendly person in the drive-thru, prices are out of line, and 3 of the 4 times they forgot something in my order. To be fair and balanced the food is pretty decent including the pie slices they serve. I have spoken to several other people in Manhattan and have heard the same things about poor customer service. So I'm not sure why the reviews on here praise their service. I now know why they went out of business the first time around.

A very, very satisfying overall experience. This is a busy place; you order at the counter and find your own seat. The key innovation is that - due to the selection of BBQ sauces - the meat is presented to you as God intended, viz., not already smothered in sauce. This exposes Cox's not so dirty secret: the BBQ isn't actually that amazing. But it doesn't matter - paired with the sauces, sides, and desserts the whole thing works like a charm. Winning. Of the meats, the choice that had the most flavor were the ribs. You can eat them dry if you want to and that was surprisingly satisfying. The pulled pork and the brisket were perfectly fine without being drool-worthy on their own. Use the sauce, Luke. The roast turkey was well executed but similarly without star power on its lonesome. We didn't try the pulled chicken. Of the sides, the sweet potato fries were amazing. Best in class. Really fantastic. Also outstanding was the mac and cheese and - surprise - the broccoli salad thingy. "Accidentally" spill some of the broccoli salad sauce on that turkey and you have a real winner. Of the sauces, Carolina was this reviewer's favorite but the whole point is to get one cup of each and try them all. Dip the fries; knock yourself out. The walnut brownies for dessert were themselves small dense rectangles of excellence. Win. Ing. The one improvement here would be the drinks. More selection would be better. Something a little tastier than the fountain sodas would work well. How about some nice, homemade lemonade? The ice tea (or beer, if you are so inclined) is the way to go.

Terrible service! People seemed more concerned with other things than to be friendly. Ordered the pork q deal with the Mac n Jack. The serving of the Mac n Jack was small. Took one bite of the extremely greasy pork sandwich and through away the rest. Worst BBQ I have ever had.

I don't know what the flippin' hype is about this place. People, you live in a place where BBQ can happen in your backyard in a matter of an hour! DO NOT CROSS GO and have these people serve you. Servers were uptight (maybe they are forced to eat their own food), drinks watered down and all around, just not a pleasant vibe.

My favorite place to eat in Manhattan by far. Although it is slightly more expensive compared its fast food neighbors, there is NO comparison. I feel the portions are excellent, I can usually eat the entire sandwich and most of the fries and feel completely stuffed. Although I always feel bad throwing away the fries since I feel like I'm throwing away a slice of heaven. Their food just melts in your mouth. My favorite is the Big Memphis with a side of Sweet Potato Fries. There's really no wait staff since you go up to the counter to order so no comments on them. The tables are usually kept really clean. The one complaint I do have is their drinks always seemed slightly watered down. I felt this way about their sweet tea on some occasions.

Good food, had the Mac and jack and beans with pulled pork. Back home, I could have gotten 3 times the amount of food for a few dollars less, so I won't give 5 stars. We enjoyed it and will be back.

I really like Cox Brothers. It's a unique atmosphere, and the food is good for the price. We usually get the pork platter with two sides, and 12 bucks is enough for two people. The food tastes great also. Sweet potatoe fries are my recommendation.

  • Andi W.

The Carolina sandwich was fab as was the plain Pulled Pork sandwich. The smoky flavor came through and was accented by any of the sauces. My fave was a toss-up between Original and Sweet. The pineapple cole slaw was a treat!

Amazing pull pork sandwich and pineapple coleslaw! When we want BBQ we go here. Staff is always friendly and willing to accommodate families with toddlers.

The order: 1/3 pound of the brisket, 1/3 pound of the smoke stack, beans, and coleslaw. The verdict: Brisket was a 6/10. It wasn't bad, but it was way too lean! This is coming from someone who cuts the fat off of chicken breast. I'm not a grizzle sucking Texan like my friend Will, but I was expecting a little marbling. Texture was okay - fairly tender in spite of being dry. Smoked stack was a 7.8/10. Really good flavor, you could taste the smoke/hickory. I'll definitely order the smoked stack again. The beans and coleslaw were average, nothing really to complain about but nothing inspiring. On to the BBQ sauce. I thought I ordered one Texas sauce, and one original. Both sauces looked and tasted the same. With that said I'll withhold judgment for now, but whatever sauce is predominantly red in color was par at best. Worth it? For the price, I was expecting better. This is a place you go to when craving BBQ after watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on Food Network. Yes, I'm guilty. Definitely try the smoked stack, and avoid ordering the brisket as your ONLY meat.

I took a chance here, was just craving BBQ and was told KC is known for it so thought, "I'm in the same state, close enough right"? Wrong. It offers drive-thru which should have told me something. The sauces were OK, nothing special, Cole slaw was bland and boring even though they add pineapple and the beans tasted like canned pork and beans. I thought about their pecan pie as the cashier stated they made it here but took a look and it was light with just a little layer of pecans. I'll admit I'm picky about my pecan pie, Grandma taught me how to make the good stuff. I plan on heading to KC for some real BBQ and hopefully it will live up to the hype.

Good BBQ but maybe slightly overpriced for portions. The best part is all the different BBQ sauces. My favorite is the Texas Sizzle.

I love Cox bros. They have amazing BBQ. Their meat is super tender and the sauces are great. I really enjoyed their beef brisket and my boyfriend love the pulled pork. Also, they have the best sweet potato fries of any place I've ever had them. The place was clean and the atmosphere was great. Prices are very reasonable. So glad this place is still around.

  • Jennifer G.

This place is much better than Famous Dave's. Owned by the same people that run Coco Bolos. The prices are reasonable and service is always fast. I tend to order the smokehouse salad with pulled pork (salad with whatever meat you want on top) or the Q deal (meat, side and drink) for brisket and sweet potato fries. This is my go to place if I'm craving some bbq in town.

  • Rex J.

Decent place. Prices are about $2-3 more than other places down south but decent overall. The ribs are good but they are hit or miss. Sometimes we'd get some pretty awesome ribs and some times we'd get some pretty dry ribs. The brisket is about the same. I like the smoke stack and pulled pork offerings. Beans and Mac and cheese aren't too bad either. All the sauces are pretty good. I recommend trying them all.

Excellent all around. I followed up my pulled pork sandwich with a dessert of ribs. Tasty.

Overall good BBQ. The pulled pork is definitely the best smoked meat they offer. Also have a pretty solid selection of sauces.

If you need fast tasty bbq, this is the place! The service is incredibly friendly and professional. Sometimes they prepare your food so fast it's ready in the time it takes to fill a fountain drink. The sauces are great, as are the nachos. This place hasn't let me down yet.

  • Taylor P.

The BBQ itself it a solid 4 stars. My problem is the price per portion. I know how expensive BBQ is and how much time and work goes into putting out a good product. I also don't mind paying for a premium for good BBQ. The portions at this place are by far the smallest I have ever encountered at a BBQ joint and the price is just as high if not higher. I choose to spend me hard earned money at other local favorites and save my BBQ fix for my trips to KC. If you want B+ BBQ for A+++ prices this is the perfect spot for you. The brisket isn't very good here either but since I'm not a huge brisket fan that doesn't necessarily bother me as much.

Customer service maybe lacking a bit but I love the food!

Like the food, but for the prices, the portion sizes are disappointing. Overall the food is good, as good as any BBQ you can get in the Manhattan area. I love the slaw when it's really fresh, not so much when it's been sitting a while. Today I tried the smoke stack for the first time, and loved the smokey flavor, the slight char around the outsides of the chunks of meat, and tenderness on the inside. I also like their Texas BBQ sauce, nice balance of spicy, tangy, smokey flavors. The food alone would have rated 4 stars on my scale. The only thing I really don't appreciate is the stingy food portions, especially meat portions, considering the prices. Maybe other customers are fine with the portions. In my case, it's the only reason I don't eat there weekly, rather than every month or two.

Love.... love.... this place! The pulled pork sandwich is delicious. The Texas sizzle sauce and susage are awesome. Definitely recommend it.

I have eaten here a few times now. All around my experience has been positive. I've made it a point to try all the meats. The ribs and sausage were good. The brisket was probably the most disappointing thing I have tried there as was the pulled pork. both were very bland and dry. The "sides" were as they should be... a side..not the star of the BBQ show. Now I know what to get when I go back..and I will be back. Ribs and sausage please

Good bbq and friendly staff. Way better than famous daves for the price and flavor. Only drawback I have to say is that they don't offer military discount.

They really try to make you feel at home here, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. We had a big order and they ended up messing it up, but they corrected it immediately and even gave us a gift card. They food overall was excellent and I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a good BBQ joint while in Manhattan.

My husband and I tried this place out. He was craving BBQ and based on reviews we went with it. The food was good. Really have no complaints. The sauces were pretty good. Reasonably priced. Reminded me allot of Rudy's BBQ in Texas. We will be going back sometime soon to get a BBQ fix.

Took a day trip visit to Manhattan and stopped here for lunch with the parents. I had the sausage and smokestack along with the broccoli salad and coleslaw with pineapple. What what?! I love barbeque and burnt ends are the best. This place had good stuff. I loved the coleslaw but the broccoli salad more. I could have eaten that all day. It had crasins and golden raisins and goodness. Get it.

Had to try some BBQ before I left the midwest. Stopped here for a Linner (lunch/dinner) mid afternoon, so we were pretty much the only ones here. We got 2 of the sandwich deals (sandwich+side+drinks). My friend got the brisket sandwich with seasoned fries, and I got the pulled chicken sandwich with sweet tater fries. The fries were great and we had no complaints. My friend misses her Phil's BBQ from San Diego, but I liked the pulled chicken sandwich. Plus here is their many different option for BBQ sauces. I believe they have 4 or 5 options you can pick from, so if you love your BBQ sauces and like to mix and match, this is a place to try. Portions are generous; I ate 4 hours ago, and I'm suprisingly still full! (this is coming from a girl who eats every 2 hours...)
