This is one of our favorite restaurants! I was never a fan of Thai food until eating here! My favorite dish is their peanut curry. It's delicious! The pumpkin curry is also good. The garlic shrimp is very flavorful and delicious as well. My favorite appetizers are the crab rangoon the house sampler. The Khao Soi is amazing! Service is always fast and friendly. You can adjust the temperature of the food. I like mine mild and sometimes I feel like they don't pay much attention to the request because it still comes out spicy, but the food is so delicious, I just deal with it. It would be nice if mild were truly mild, but this is still my favorite restaurant in Manhattan.

I've eaten at Baan Thai several times with friends and family. Every time, the food has been tasty, hot, and fresh. The crazy noodle (usually on the specials board) is a really delicious spicy noodle dish. Eric R. is very happy with the beef penang that he loves so dearly. I have gotten a beef salad with a side of rice a few times which has been very delicious. The salad is even spicy! My friend Hannah J. asked the Thai server for a spice level "like she likes her men - HOT!" and her fried rice was too spicy for her - she could not even eat her words! Overall, the food is good, whether fresh spring rolls, noodle dishes, curries, or salads. Check the specials board and don't forget the Thai iced tea!

Love this restaurant! The chicken satay & coconut soup is my favorite. Also love their Thai iced tea. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in manhattan ks!

I was staying next door at the Parkwood Inn and Suites and the staff recommended this place to me. I had the shrimp pad thai and it was really good. The portion was so large that I was able to take half back to my hotel room to eat later. It is a small restaurant and the staff was friendly.

Nice lil' spot.... I ordered Yum Nua. It was actually pretty good almost authentic Thai. No peanuts like some places add. Also got the yellow Thai curry... Panang... I think... eh... it was ok. I'll go back whenever I'm around there again.

The food is great and good quality service. 10/10 best Thai restaurant in Manhattan and junction city area.

The food is really yummy, but be prepared to wait as this place is currently understaffed. I try to call 10-15 mins in advance if I'm picking up take-out. We chose to dine in today and unfortunately had to wait 10 mins to be seated. Other than the staffing issue, the food is really great. We always get Pad Thai with a medium spice. Their cook is great about adding just enough spice to make it flavorful. We also like their pot stickers. So if you're in the area and have enough time on your hands, go for it.

Food was great! Fresh and clean and good portions. The angry cowboy was full of flavor and very spicy. We also had the basil chicken wings which were delicious..... Especially the basil. We sealed the deal with the fried banana dessert...that was good but not amazing. The food came out fast and the prices are reasonable. I will definitely be coming here again to try something different.

Great Pad Thai and Almond Chicken. Love that you can pick the heat rating for your dishes. I like me some spicy food and the "medium" didn't disappoint.

Writing to you again from America's butthole... I felt like Thai for dinner... Looked up this spot and saw it had decent reviews... So I decided to give it a try... My expectations were low... But Kansas has had a few pleasant surprises... I digress... I walk in... It's a small place... And it wasn't super busy... I was starred at by two of the waitresses and NOT greeted... -1 star... I sat down... And it took a about 10 minutes before I was even asked did I want something to drink... Another -1 star... I happened to notice the white patrons were seated immediately when they walked in... (Side note I REALLY hate writing reviews based on race... But racism is still alive and well... So I'll call it like I see it...) Finally placed my order... Drinks came out pretty quick... I had the displeasure of sitting next to these college kids that were so loud with their conversation... College kids suck... Glad I'm not one anymore... Food came... The Pad Thai was ok... I asked for limes... And this chick brought me out ONE slice of lime in her hand... Like put it in a friggin dish! I asked for 2 more... She brought me out one... By hand again... All in all the food is decent... But the customer service is butt...

Have traveled overseas and eaten some great authentic food and I was very impressed with the quality and authentic flavors of Baan Thai. Friendly service, great food, Love this place.

The only Thai restaurant I would ever visit in Kansas. Coming from CA and eating thai food all the time this place is by far the best thai food KS has to offer.

  • Grace C.

The best place to get authentic Thai food in Manhattan, KS! I ordered the Gang Gha Ree (Yellow Curry, mild spice) which was "Yellow curry in coconut milk with potatoes and onion." This was delicious! This curry was more liquid than paste, but the taste was not diluted. I also tried my friend's Tom Kha Gai which is "Coconut soup with chicken or shrimp ($1.00 extra), straw mushrooms, kalanka, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, cilantro, and lime juice. Topped with two roasted, dried chili peppers" and I fell in LOVE! I am a person who is usually 100% AGAINST coconut, but for some reason, this soup was so flavorful and good, without the coconut overpowering it. The decor inside was very cool - they had a pagoda design with lots of long drapes. There was a lot of booths and tables and the staff was very nice. I'm excited to go back to try this place again.

  • Mike S.

Quite a nice place compared to other Thai restaurants I've been, but their pad see ew has some inconsistencies in portion (size of the portion of delivery is bigger than dine-in) and spiciness (this is a big problem sometimes).

Exceptionally good food, reasonable prices, nice environment. Good service. Definitely a place I would visit again!

Grew up on authentic Thai food cooked by my mother and grandmother who were born and raised in Thailand. Im hard to please with good thai cuisine, but Baan Thai definitely impressed me. I go as often as I can!

Amazing food. We are not from here, and are both from big cities (DC and NYC) where Thai food is one of our favorite treats. Baan Thai served fresh, delicious food. The service was good and the food was prepared quickly. If you're one of those people, like we were, who wouldn't expect delicious Thai food in Kansas, come to Baan Thai to be pleasantly surprised!!

I tried this place while visiting family in Manhattan and the food was out of this world. I tried a little bit of everyone's and everything was amazing. We had the curry puffs and crab rangoon appetizers, both were delicious. I highly recommend the curry puffs. I had the Massaman curry and chicken dish and I have been craving it ever since. It was the perfect amount of spicy with a touch of sweet. The place was very small; so be ready for a wait or get it to go. The service was decent given that they were very busy. It took quite awhile to get drink refills and even when there were open tables it took them forever to seat people. Also the girl who was taking our order walked away in the middle or our order without saying a word. It was very awkward and one of the weirdest things I've experienced (service-wise) in a restaurant. Also I have to agree that this place is very pricey. I live in California and it is on average about $3 more expensive per dish than the 2 thai places I eat at out here. That being said the amazing food was well worth it.

This place is awesome!! My fiancé loves Thai food and only gets to go twice a year because we don't have a thai food place within 100 miles. Out of all the fancy thai food places I have taken her to she liked this place the best!! The service is kind of whatever but the food is phenomenal and as long as it's that good I don't care how the people are that serve the food. The food came out fast and was perfect temperature. I don't have any complaints. If you are in town and want Thai food definately go here because you won't find good thai food within 100 miles of this place.

Get a Thai iced tea and thank me later.

What a cute, quiet place to eat! I came to Manhattan for a veterinary school interview at KSU, and stayed at the hotel next to this restaurant. After the interviews, my companions and I were famished and came here because it was the closet place to eat. I love Thai food and they had never tried it before, but we were all equally pleased with our dishes. I ordered the Pad Thai because it's usually a safe bet at a Thai restaurant you are unfamiliar with and I was very impressed. My more risky friend ordered the Chef's special which was Pumpkin Curry,, and it was fantastic! If I come back to Manhattan for school, I'll definitely eat here again. Great food, good service, and a calm atmosphere to help settle you down after a stressful day of interviews. Don't forget to order some Thai iced tea!

This place might only be getting three stars because well, the food IS DELICIOUS. I've read in other reviews that this place is pricier, and I would have to agree ONLY because the prices at Baan Thai are exactly the same as my husband and my favorite Thai food restaurant back home in CALIFORNIA. This is Kansas, and things are better priced here. BUT not at Bann Thai. My husband and I have been here twice and both times we've had similar experiences. We are quickly sat, asked if we're ready to order after only being there for a few moments and then asked again about two or three times more before we are, in deed, ready to order. Our food is brought out quickly and it tastes amazing. BUT after your given your food it becomes extremely different to get your previously overly attentive waiter to come back to you to refill your drink or even give you your check. The last time we ate there we were one of the two couples there, and the waiters were all talking at the front, us in their view, and we were obviously done. Our waitress even took our plates at least five minutes before ever bringing our check. I'm done, I don't want to sit and stare at you having a conversation while folding napkins please. We'll most likely be back, but if it happens again we'll probably just make our own pad thai at home.

Baan Thai is a nice place for lunch and dinner, the service quality is excellent and its always clean. Thy usually have different specials on the menu when I visit, now keep in mind that Im from Philadelphia and I take frequent trips to LA. Even though Baan Thai is a nice place, its not as delicous as the Thai in Cali or Philly! The big cities usually have better taste in the Asian Cusine. But to get out the house and eat something different, ill do baan Thai again.

  • Rachel D S.

I loved what I ordered here! I had it delivered so I can't comment on the eat-in. The food is great though! First of all, if its available order the Sticky Rice & Mangoes... So delicious! I had the Pad Thai and it was perfect. I can't wait to go back and try the Papaya Salad, for me, if they make it right, that's how you know its good Thai but so far, I have nothing but good things to say about this place.

    (5)
  • Ginger L.

The food is great and has a great balance of all the Thai flavors of sweet spicy sour, etc. You can also get good Thai beer there as well. It is a very small, unfancy place so don't come with a large group of people. If you come during peak dining hours, do expect to wait a while. I will continue to eat there when I visit Manhattan.

BLUF: Quick and friendly service. Authentic Thai cuisine. The curry puffs are a must try. They deliver! The Fiance and I stopped in for dinner at around 6pm on a Friday. It started to get crowded around 7pm. The restaurant is much smaller than it looks from the outside. The inside looks simple and clean. No crazy decorations on the wall or statues you usually see at traditional Thai restaurants. We ordered the Pad See Ew , Pad Thai, curry puffs, and tom yum soup. We got our entrees medium spicy... and apparently they are not very consistent. The best part of the dinner were the curry puffs - great flavor and the flakiness of the shell was awesome. Brought me back to when I was a kid and my mom would make yellow curry and we would dip french baguettes in the sauce. The Tom Yum soup was also very well done - and I love that they did not cheap out on the chicken and mushrooms. At most places, you'll get alot of soup but no content - not here, there was plenty of the good stuff. My entree on the other hand did not impress me. Pad thai is the only entree I ever get at a Thai restaurant so I've tried it at several different places in my lifetime. This one was very bland and it was missing a little bit of lime. I am use to having a lime wedge on the side - here, you just get some peanuts. The portions are big which is a plus but that does not make up for the blandness of the dish. We encountered a little bit of trouble with my fiances Pad See Ew... she also got hers medium spicy but it was unbearable to eat. We told the waitress and she quickly got another one whipped up for us. The second time around the dish was fine on the spicyness level. I enjoyed her dish alot more than mine, I loved the flavors and the flat noodles they used. My fiance said it was okay and she has had better but I guess since I've never had it, I loved it. Looks like I need to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to Thai Food. Anyways, if you're looking for thai food in Manhattan, you can't go wrong here. The service is friendly, the food is authentic - guess you just have to choose the right dish. Overall, I enjoyed it and I am glad there's a decent thai restaurant not 2 hours away from here. Oh, they also deliver which is awesome.

Coming from Cali where everything tastes better, this place is pretty decent compared to other Asian or Thai spots around. The lady workers here are def. rude as f**k. So i like to order to go.

  • Patricia O.

The food was ok. I've had better Thai food. The pumpkin curry lacked flavor and it seemed very watered down. On the other hand their pad Thai was amazing!

  • Jess B.

I guess I had high expectations due to the good ratings his place had. I felt like it was pretty standard Thai. I was really disappointed in the Tom Kha Gai soup- it was very watery and had too many spice leaves in it. Usually its a rich coconut consistency versus theirs which was more a lemon and water broth. Way too acidic. The service was also a little slow and had to ask for refills on our water.

  • Matthew B.

If you have not tried Thai, might as well start here. The restaurant was clean. The staff was friendly and the food was certainly a welcomed change.

Love the food here. A favorite place to eat. I've had some service issues but not major and I've noticed improvement lately so perhaps they are paying attention. I would give the other star if it were bigger ... We've often waited quite a while for seat.

One of my favorite Thai place in Manhattan. Try the Spicy Basil with pork, Panang Curry and Beef Soup.

It was my first time trying out this restaurant. I was in town for the night and they had delivery service so I went for it. When I called the restaurant I was directed to call the delivery people directly to place my order. Usually, the restaurant takes your order than contact these outside people themselves. I guess when in Kansas. Delivery was nearly $4 but they were quick. Food arrived with no utensils or napkins. I had the GhaRee yellow curry with steamed rice. It was just ok to me. The portion was very small for $11.75. The sauce was watery, more potatoes than chicken few bits to be exact, and spicy really means spicy. The curry came in a small round plastic bowl and the rice was also in a small styrofoam tray. Tom Yum was delicious, but again the meat was lacking. It's a 2 star for me, I have had way better. They're not very generous with the portions...$26 later still hungry. They should also update their menu online because the prices were wrong.

We haven't been to Baan Thai for a while (maybe 5 months?) and decided to have dinner there the other night. It was quite disappointing. The server and service was fine, but the food was not. My husband ordered the Lar Gai, which is described as "minced chicken salad.." What he was served was ground chicken with too many red onions and a small amount of lettuce. It was quite spicy, he doesn't mind, but he felt sick afterwards. My order was the stir fried green beans with tofu (not spicy). I've enjoyed this dish before, but this time it was extremely greasy and the portion was very small, considering it is listed as an entree. Don't know if Baan Thai was just having an "off" night but don't think we'll go back anytime soon.

  • Ashley F.

Best thai food in Manhattan, KS and it's some of the best Thai I've had even compared to cities like Seattle. Spicy salads are amazing, and the curries are all very good. I usually hate crab Rangoon, but the ones here are delicate, super crispy, actually contain crab, and come with a sweet chili sauce that is much better than the radioactive-colored sweet and sour sauce found at many Chinese restaurants. Basil wings are my other favorite. Those and a bowl of soup make a nice light meal.

  • Ken G.

A friend of mine suggested this place and I'm so glad she did!!! I was a little apprehensive at first because I'm not a fan of spicy food but I tried the pad Thai and the curry chicken and both were very flavorful with out being intolerably or uncomfortably hot. It was just enough to bring the dishes together. If heat is what you seek, get the spice tray and have at it. It may be flammable. Just saying. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced. I recommend this place if you're in the mood for something different.

Average thai food. I guess it's pretty decent for being in the middle of Kansas. I got the tom yum, spring rolls, and pad thai.

In town for 3 days, had the red curry with fried tofu - the tofu was wonderful, crispy fried, not soggy. Also the tom gai soup was wonderful

I decided that I wanted Thai food for dinner so i called for take out. I called around 6:30pm on a Friday and the phone rang and rang. I hung up and called again thinking maybe I dialed the wrong number. It rang and rang and someone finally picked up and took my order. I arrive about 20 minutes later to pick up my order and i head right to the cash register. There was a women checking out ahead of me and once she left the man at the register just walked away. There were about 3-4 other waitresses there and no one acknowledged me for about 5 minutes. They just walked around me and carried on. Someone brought out my order and just sat it next to the register and walked away. About 5 minutes later a women stops at the register to check out a customer and I say to her, can I get some help? and she says, how can I help you? Really? I pay for my food and she actually expected me to leave a tip! The food was good, but the service was awful.

Came here with a large group. We pre-ordered our food since we had limited time for lunch. I had the Pad Thai with chicken. It was beautifully presented. Large portion that I was somehow able to mostly consume. It was just as tasty as the Pad Thai I've had at home. The restaurant itself was cute and looked clean and fresh. The only thing that made my experience a little bit difficult was that we all had separate checks. When we went up to the cash register to pay, we had to figure out who ordered what since they orders were not in any particular order. Maybe since we had such a large group, if we had gotten our checks brought over to us instead of us waiting in a huge long line in front of the cash register, we might have been able to pay more efficiently.

Pricey but delicious. And when I say pricey, I mean on-par with most Thai restaurants: more expensive than Chinese food but cheaper than a T-bone. I prefer this place to the other Thai restaurant in town. I strongly suggest the Pad Thai; I know that's a Thai-place staple but, hey, it's great here.

New to the area, and saw this while driving around. We decided to give it a try. This is an adequate Thai Restaurant Atmosphere: 1. Friendly 2. Small dinning area 3. College student through mature adult staff was very friendly and helpful Service: Excellent 1. Able to recommend items 2. Topped off drinks every 5-10 minutes 3. Asked if we needed anything during drink top off. Food: Good 1. Too spicy: Thai food always has a bit of kick to it, and the server forgot to ask if we wanted it mild, normal, spicy, or use the 1-10 spicy numbering system. My wife is pregnant, and while normally a fan, was unable to eat the food because it was assumed we wanted it normal. 2. Excellent flavors. 3. Rice portion seemed small. 4. If it was not for the spiciness it would have been excellent. Price: Fair 1. Price of meal for two was $28 dollars including an appetizer, a pot of soup, and a main course (we split it though). Not a great deal for your money, but what you can expect a Thai place to cost.

    (3)
  • Jessica S.

We had the pad Thai, curry chicken and an order of cream cheese rangoons. All were delicious, the prices were reasonable and the portion sizes were decent as well. We ordered by phone for pick up. I took one star off because they gave our order to a different customer and my husband had to wait an extra 20 minutes for them to remake our order.

First of all, I was glad that another Thai restaurant has opened up here in Manhattan. I haven't gone there to eat because the two times I ate the food prepared by the restaurant, it was a takeaway. The first time I ordered tomyam with squid. Their broth was significantly different from that prepared by Aroy Thai. It reminds me of the almost-divine tomyam from Ruby of Siam (Skokie, IL), but it is still quite different from the tomyam I've tasted on the border of Thailand and Malaysia. I totally enjoyed it. They used real lemon grass and galangal. I also ordered a basil chicken fried rice, which was not really on the menu, but they made it anyway. I was not too impressed. I wish it had been a tad spicier. The second time I ordered the tiger beef and red curry with tofu. I was disappointed with the beef and was not too impressed with the side sauce either. The beef was a bit chewy and almost bland. I reckon it was intentional since it came with a dipping sauce. The red curry was tasty. However, it was packed in a tall styrofoam cup, which could fool us into thinking that there was a lot of it. I think Aroy Thai's portion is bigger. This is a new business in Manhattan, so I hope that they will do better. I may try other dishes on the menu, but maybe not any time soon since they are quite pricey for the portion served.

Overrated, no atmosphere, expensive and not worth it. Select items are not bad.

  • Rachel G.

Happy that another Thai restaurant opened up and a bit less costly than Aroy. The moment after coming in, I noticed the dishes set out were small and I knew that the servings may be smaller single servings. Sure enough they were, so we weren't able to share as much or save some for left overs for lunch tomorrow. Started out safe with our usual pad see ew and pad thai. Not too keen that it wasn't at all spicy although the flavor level was at mild? when we definitely can tolerate a lot of spice. Importantly there was much flavor and was freshly cooked and not dry as to the dishes in Aroy. We also had the soft spring rolls, pretty much similar to the taste of Vietnamese sandwiches, which was very crunchy and fresh. Coming from a tea making background, the Thai iced tea definitely tasted better than I expected, not from a container, but rather as if it were brewed. The fried banana was a nice addition to the meal although, again, the portion seemed quite small compared to other places I've been too. Overall I would definitely still come back because I'm very happy with the quality and taste of the food, but not looking forward to the cost and portion or what you will receive.

Delicious, flavorful, spicy Thai food! Loved their red curry, green curry and day's special mango-rice dish. I am craving for their food again and again.

Good, consistent Thai food served up in a strip mall in a pretty small restaurant. I'm a repeat customer here because it is so tasty. It's definitely gaining a reputation since opening and is busier than ever, especially on weekends. I don't mind a short wait for a table though. Service is usually good, though one take out experience wasn't the best, but they were slammed that night, so I forgive them. Love the Angry Cowboy, the curries are yummy and every dish we've sampled from beef to pork to tofu to chicken has been great quality and delish. They will up the spice level if you ask or lower if you want it more mild. If you're a fan of Thai food, you won't be disappointed. It's clean, consistent, friendly and typically priced.

  • Carter N.

It's amazing that there is Thai food of this quality available in Manhattan. I've been many times to Baan Thai and the food has always been stellar and the service is always beyond efficient and kind. They will even go off the menu if you request to try something special or just something they would fix for themselves at home. The people that work there have come around many times to make sure that everything was good, and the last time I spoke with them they were really bummed that they had received a couple bad reviews on the internet. I've eaten at Thai restaurants all over the U.S. and this is one of the best I've ever been to. This is the kind of place I'm more than happy to write a great review for!

  • Bryan H.

My wife and I love this place. I have been here at least a half dozen times and every time the service has been friendly and eager to show us a good time. I read a couple of reviews that said pricey for too small portions, but if you want fresh veggies instead of frozen, pre-prepared, it's a right on price. Love this place and glad we have it in Manhattan.

1st Thai Restaurant in Kansas that I've been to and I was pretty satisfied! They have spicy & non-spicy choices on the entrees which is cool. My husband and I went on a Friday night at 8pm so its was crowded and the food took a long time to come out but our server Jackie was nice and told us that the restaurant had only TWO WOKS to work with! And they serve Thai beer! We had the Goong Gra Borg(shrimp & bacon in egg roll wrapper), papaya salad, dry sukiyaki, baan thai shrimp. ALL OF IT WAS DELICIOUS. Our only complain was that the papaya salad wasn't spicy enough but we got it MEDIUM so next time we will try HOT. The only reason for not being 5 stars was because of the long wait and the pricing isn't that expensive but isn't that cheap either. Otherwise, it was a great experience and I will definitely go there again.

  • Regan R.

I was so excited for this new Thai restaurant and was not disappointed! The food was delicious... just what we expected, great flavor, good sized portions and not a bad price. We had the green curry and pad thai, both with chicken, and would easily get them both again. It's a small place with tables fairly close together, so it's not very private feeling, but it was busy while we were there. It didn't take too long to get the food and it was hot and fresh. Prices are better than the alternative, not super cheap, but worth it. Can't wait to go back!!

  • Steve I.

Shockingly good. I had the chicken soup. Seasoned to perfection, very cheap and a huge portion. I was not expecting this in Manhattan, Kansas. My favorite part was when our server, Kevin, gave my friend a hard time for ordering a grilled chicken and fries at a Thai place.

  • Dave S.

Food and price similar to Aroy thai. tasty. Thai tea is much better than Aroy. Aroy thai is is very diluted.

    (4)
  • Laura W.

So excited this place finally opened! It is a big improvement over Aroy Thai in terms of flavor and price. We ordered the soft spring rolls, which were good and fresh, though a bit pricey for what you get. Entrees were pad thai (DELICIOUS) and ginger chicken (ALSO DELICIOUS). I left with a box of leftovers to eat the next day, but ended up scarfing them that same night because I couldn't wait. The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, and it's pretty small, but the food is quite good. This place will definitely become a staple for me.

This is a new place in town, and I love Thai. The building and decor are nice, very clean, but the lights are a bit too bright. The menu is very diversified. We started with the soft spring rolls (2 for $5.95). Certainly not worth the price, not much in them but lettuce and cilantro esp. since I didn't want shrimp in mine. We ordered cashew chicken and a sweet and sour chicken( most entrees 9.95 up). They were both excellent, but the portions were small. I left the place hungry and had just spent $17 including tax and tip. Usually I have leftovers to take home from a place like this. The waitress was superb. Good food bu be prepared to spend $ if you want a decent sized meal.
