Starbucks

Starbucks is corporate coffee and I always know what I'm going to get when I go to Starbucks or go through a Starbucks drive through. When I choose to go to Starbucks it is because I'm craving consistency. Although Oscar Wilde said that consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative, sometimes, especially when it comes to coffee, I want something that is palatable and is going to taste like it is suppose to taste. I also know what kind of caffeine kick I'm going to get when I drink a Starbucks coffee beverage. So there are good things about consistency too! As drive-thus go, this is one of the best, I've experienced. It's clean, it moves quickly and the window server/barista is always friendly but does not make insulting comments or ask inappropriate questions. (see my review of another Starbucks in this market) This particular Starbucks is on my usual driving route and I get better coffee here than at Latte Land down the road. Today the drive through was particularly busy and when I got to the window to pay for my latte and the barista handed it to me, and said it was on the house because of my wait. I did not think my wait was particularly long and if Starbucks has a policy on wait time, this is a good thing. I must say that it made my afternoon to receive my Venti latte for free and I will definitely be doing business at this Starbucks in the future because they have the customer service thing so well organized.

One of the few BBQ joints that is consistently on point with their food. I don't know how they do it but SH5 has it figured out. I haven't had a bad meal here, or at any of their locations for that matter. My favorite is the Carolina sandwich with pulled pork, spicy slaw and Bubba sauce. The portabello Z-Man is my go to when I'm in a non-meat (what tha...) mood. As for sides - you can't go wrong with the fries or onion rings but if you are in the mood for something different go for the smoked white chicken chili and BBQ dirty rice. The BBQ dirty rice is OMG good and beautifully spicy. My only desire would be to see something more interesting for the salad options. The base of the salad is like something from a bag and very uninspiring. When people visit from out of town, this is the first KC BBQ experience they get and so far, not one of them has been disappointed.
There are other BBQ names which have a longer history and bigger name. However, Joe's is clearly stealing the hearts and taste buds of the locals. If you are visiting the Kansas City area or just haven't had the opportunity to visit Joe's yet, do yourself a favor and treat your taste buds to what I believe is hands down the best BBQ in the Kansas City area. After you eat, be sure to pick up a bottle of their famous sauce to use at home. This should help hold you over until you can go back for some more great BBQ.
So, I haven't tried any other KC BBQ, but I totally loved this place. We went at 12:30p on a Tuesday and the line only wrapped around the inside of the restaurant - I considered that lucky since I'd herd about it wrapping out and around the building. It moved pretty fast, too! We probably only waited 10-15 minutes - just enough time to look over the menu. My husband ordered the Z-Man and loved it! I got Hog Heaven, which was delicious! And we shared an order of fries - thank goodness we shared because they give you a huge bag of them! They're seasoned nicely and have the perfect amount of crunch! We'll definitely visit OK Joe's next time we're in town and probably order the exact same thing!

Service was impeccable!
801 Chophouse is a jewel! A gracious hostess welcomed us and though we did not have a reservation, she seated us at a lovely, quiet table by the window. We enjoyed the decorative fire pit glow across the street. Our server was quick and attentive- the best. The martinis are excellent. Great wine list. The steaks and pork chops, delicious. The green beans are served with a generous portion of bacon. We were too full to try their tempting desserts, so we all enjoyed dessert cocktails. We look forward to our next visit.
Was made to feel very uncomfortable about sending something back. Will probably never go back.

This is one of the most unique Statbucks that I have seen. The brick work on the building is beautiful and the staff is friendly
Great staff! Very friendly and pleasant to talk to. The drive-thru can get busy between 8-9:30AM, so be aware.

Blue Koi

Reviews:
Blue Koi is just a few blocks from my house so I come here on a regular basis, in my opinion it is the best noodle and dumping shop in KC. Blue Koi is almost as good as the noodle and dumpling shops in Asia, which is a huge compliment! The Spicy Wontons are a must-do, everyone loves these and I typically order more for the table since the demand is high... The Lettuce wraps are pretty good too, nothing overly special but a solid appetizer... The pan fried dumpling are good, althought most people wish they had just ordered more Spicy Wontons... The noodle soups are all pretty darn good... Karen's special soup is not on the menu but it is a simple dish made of spicy pork broth, noodles and veggies... When I am in Asia on business, I live off of noodle soup. Karen's special is simple and delicious, just like I would find in a noodle shop in Hong Kong! You can't go wrong here, my only complaint is that somehow my tab always comes to about $50 for lunch for 2... Seems pricey for noodles and dumplings but the price doesn't keep me from coming back so I can't complain too much...
Blue Koi, I like you. What is there to say... quite a bit, but I can easily summarize it by saying great food, good service, and slightly high prices. If you haven't tried Blue Koi then it is certainly worth a shot. There isn't a place I know of in KC like it except the original Blue Koi in Westport which is equally as good. I personally like the dumplings (pan-fired), Chicken or Tofu with Black Bean Sauce, Chicken with Chinese Curry Sauce, and Cantonese Roast Duck. The food is cooked very well and always has been enjoyable. I like interior with its trendy styles and art. I will say the prices a bit high but the experience is worth it. Summary: * Great food * Very good service. I have yet to have a "shifty" or bad experience * Nice inside that is interesting and inviting * Prices are a tad steep. Oh well, keeps my wife and I from frickin' eating here too often. Keep in mind, the quality is good
This is like the clean upscale version of the 39th location. Here, you have the option of sitting outside and there is actually parking! Of course, the dumplings are still phenomenal! We did the pan fried shrimp dumplings, because I love that little extra texture. We also got a side of the amazing, flavor packed "awesome sauce", which I basically put on everything. I ordered my favorite entree, the "Fire Bird", which I could eat every single week. The portions are huge and there are always two meals in every entree. WE had a young server. He was a little quirky, but he was always there for anything we needed. Blue Koi is located in the Mission Farms shopping complex which is great if you want to walk around a bit before dinner. Yay! Blue Koi!

One word...amazing. I haven't had an experience like this in a while. I was taken by surprise and here are the things i can say went very well: 1. Used $20 coupon, no issues using it (that NEVER happens with coupons) 2. Server was attentive and we got refills regularly 3. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and answered our questions 4. GM came to our table and asked us how everything was 5. The food was excellent (I got the tavern beef stroganoff, and it was hearty and the portions were great) Overall a great experience. I will definitely go back. It was refreshing to have a great meal in a great place.
Waiter was condescending and smelled of cigarette smoke. Soup of the day (chicken noodle) was bland. Burger was tasty. Stroganoff was very good and came with delicious grilled asparugus. Hummus (checkin special) was creamy and flavorful, but the celery looked a liitle wilted and sad. I would hesitate to recommend this place to anyone who isnt dressed up like Leawood. They are very judgemental of their casual diners and assume you are too unrefined to fully grasp simple items on the menu. Insulting.
This was a perfect brunch/lunch spot with a lovely patio. The waitstaff was able to work within our multiple food allergies parameters with a great, helpful attitude. The food was delicious and satisfying for our 16 yr old son, as well as the adults in our party. Would absolutely go again when in KC.

Amazing food, so convenient. I loved the cauliflower chickpea curry salad. Atmosphere is light and airy, music is charming (Ella Fitzgerald!), service is relaxed and friendly. A pleasant place to eat, have coffee, and relax. My only gripe is that they don't have wifi, so it might not be a great place to have a meeting or get some work done during a break.
Great spot for lunch. Deans always has the best and hottest soup around. They have the freshest salad and great cheese and dessert selection. If you have not been there make sure to check it out.
Used to be a go-to spot for me but not so much any more with all of the good food choices now in KC/Leawood. I recommend changing out the menu more often, getting some new fresh recipes and accommodating those who are gluten free. The desserts are good and that would be the main reason I would go here. Improve the menu and I'll be coming more often!

I LOVE the Roasterie Cafe, but I prefer the Brookside location over this one. Every time I've gone it's very crowded and it's much smaller. However if you're out south and have a coffee craving, this is the place to stop in!
Perfect place for friends hang out , study, and the store is clean and neat. Best is, it has CLOVER.... And you MUST try their CLOVER coffee in BLACK first, then add cream, then add sugar last (1 coffee, 3 ways to drinks, is an art) Advise: ask for using ceramic mug if you dine in. 1. Saves the earth 2. and keep your drinks taste better. Why? Because paper cup actually has a coat of chemical on it to prevent leaking, and it will add an acid flavor to your drinks. If you are a true coffee / tea drinker , you should always avoid paper cup. You know, that is an insult to coffee beans and tea leaf. They will cry....
Great quality coffee. They know what they are doing. Yummy. Sooooo much better than starbucks.

I don't know what it is, but I always forget this restaurant is here. Enchalida soup is amazing and enough cannot be said for the Chocolate Molten Lava cake, it's amazing.
It's your average chain Chili's. The food is good, prices are right. I'm a fan of their $2.99 classic margaritas. We usually go with an appetizer like queso or spinach dip. We haven't been disappointed with the burgers / sandwiches / entrees we've ordered, but 99% of time I go with the Margarita Chicken. If you're not stuffed after all that, I love the molten lava cake; it's easily shareable for two, though I try not to think about the thousands of calories I'm eating. The 2-for-$20 special is nice, which includes a two entrees and an appetizer off a special list. Sign up for their e-list to get coupons -- I get them about every week, usually for a free queso, appetizer, or dessert.
5 stars because I've loved every Chili's meal I've ever had, anywhere. It's one of my favorite restaurants because the food and drinks are yummy and cheap, and the atmosphere is comfortable and casual. Our waitress was great! Page, I believe. Very attentive servers and wait staff. The ONLY gripe I have (not really enough to take away a star so I didn't) but MY GOD! The "chili".... CHILI'S CHILI ! It's horrible! I realized at lunch today i hadn't ever tried and so I ordered it, assuming it would be amazing. Oh my God- the absolute WORST CHILI EVER. Worse than Hormel from a can? Yep. I took one bite and my heart sank. I'm not even certain there's actual meat used in it. It's the texture of wet dog food and, sadly, tastes a lot like what I would assume dog food does. Please, PLEASE don't serve this crap! Just take it off the menu and replace it with fire roasted chilis or something (so as not to contradict the name, of course). Otherwise, fajitas were great as well as the rest of our meals.

Room 39

Ok, this was a private event on Sunday at Room 39 after their renovation. Menu was celebrating Bastille Day for the Chaîne - the owner/ chef was gracious with wine/ food pairings - service was fantastic and the personal pride of the owner shows in his enthusiasm for the food and drink.i will come back to enjoy the awesome patio-menu choices looked diverse and can accommodate a carnivore, herbivore or pescadore! Highly recommend you try this suburban jewel.
On the particular Saturday of my visit, there were a lot of women here. From the staff to the brunchers to the baby shower giving wrapped boxes of diapers to one another. Maybe it was the quaint farmhouse interior of this second-generation farm-to-table concept, or maybe my one-hour sampling of the clientele isn't in any way indicative of the demographics that usually frequent Room 39. On to the food: I'm not a big fan of brunch as a concept, but if I can enjoy a bloody Mary at noon while perusing the lunch menu, I'm all for it. The burger was exceptional in its simplicity and freshness of ingredients. Rarely do I find a french fry so well-prepared. Blanc, located right around the corner, would do well to take some notes. Elsewhere, a Welsh rarebit made with turkey was brightened with some well-placed jalapeno slices, which served as a way to cut through the heaviness of the open-faced sandwich while also adding some complexity. In many respects, Room 39 doesn't look to revolutionize the food they serve, but they do look to make the best version of what they serve using the best ingredients available. I'm definitely a fan.
Food-4 Stars Ambiance-3 Stars Service- 2 Stars Price/value- 3 Stars Menu-4 Stars I will start off by saying that I am a big fan of the original Room 39 on 39th St. So, with that in mind, this eatery offers interesting menu options with the same attention to detail as the original. However, the ambience is not quite as quaint as the original. The menu is full of wonderful options for every taste bud, whether you prefer your breakfast to be savory or sweet, there is something here for everyone. Since my tummy was thinking hearty...I ordered the pasta carbonara and thoroughly enjoyed it ! The pesto sauce on top of the perfectly poached egg was bright and lovely. The eggy sauce was rich and decadent. The perfect brunch entrée. Well, almost perfect, in order to enhance perfection, I ordered a blueberry and goat cheese pancake off the à la cart menu, just to balance out the savory and sweet. Oh, and...to be perfectly honest, I just wanted it! Unfortunately, my date was not quite as pleased with his menu choices. He ordered the baked eggs and found it to be too minimalistic, and the portion size was far too small for a hungry man. But, this is my review... He will have to write his own!
