Ok, so I have only been here once and had a good time, so why the 2 stars, you ask? When attempting to pick up something I had left behind during my visit, it was a trial to find the place open---even though the sign outside says "open for lunch," it was not open until 10:30 pm. But on to happier things, my visit to Taste was for Summer Salsa hosted by DanceIt Lawrence. This is a fun event...free salsa lessons and then music to which you can practice your new lessons (taking place on Wednesdays this summer). The crowd was sparse, but that was ok, since my lessons did not "take" as well as they could have, and I ended up jerking around like a ballerina on crack (at least according to my table mates). The music became less salsa and more dance as the night progressed, which was a boon to me, but if you are there to only salsa, it might not be as pleasing. But more about the bar, which has a modest dance floor, but some nice large booths and 2 bars...so if there was a crowd, you could still belly up pretty easily. The bartender was very nice, and there were great drink specials ($2 wells and bottles when I was there (Wednesday), and I recently saw that they are offering $1 almost anythings on Fridays this summer). There is also a nice outside patio with a smaller bar--not sure if this is in operation, it was not when I was there. All in all, this could be a nice addition to the Lawrence dance scene, but I would advise calling to ensure they are open before stopping by.
