I love this JJ. It's one of the only places that will deliver to my work and it's delicious and very fast to arrive. Sometimes they make small order errors, like forgetting to add mayo packets or to cut it, but nothing huge. They get a lot of business from me!

Mass Street Soda

Reviews:
While I can't quite get my head around WHY this place exists, I'm sure glad it does. I question how much demand there is for an artisanal soda store, but so long as they're paying the rent, more power to them. This place is cool and I'm glad it's there. I was in Lawrence for meetings, but also wanted to explore the city. It was a hot day and I was stuck in big-boy clothes (ie long pants and not my typical business jorts), and I needed a refreshment. Since I still had meetings and a drive back to KC, I figured a beer was out of the question. Instead, I went to Mass Street Soda and got myself a root beer! People will tell you this place has a lot of variety. That won't prepare you for the awesomeness of their selection. Arranged in flavors, it's difficult nonetheless to make a selection. How do I pick the perfect root beer from their inventory of approximately 8 million? Ultimately I gave up, asked for a recommendation and sat down at the bar. While typically they can flash-chill your soda in a matter of minutes, they actually had this variety in a cooler. The friendly store-keep swapped me out for a cold one and I sat down and chatted him up. He was quite knowledgeable about what they served and Lawrence in general. So yeah, if you're craving some sort of small-batch or regional soda, this place has you covered. Definitely worth a visit.
My partner and I stopped in here for the first time on Saturday night and were totally blown away by the selection. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly and they have more sodas than I could ever imagine. I'm totally in love with Frostie's rootbeer, which was recommended to me by another customer. They also have the capability to chill any soda in under 2 minutes and will make an ice cream float right there at their soda counter. Can't wait to go back!
Great variety! They make any floats you desire.

Wonderful experience. We will be back and will recommend the Halcyon House II to anyone who wants a special memory to last a life time. Everything is immaculate and the whole experience was exemplary. The rooms are unique and we loved the Master Suite. The breakfast was excellent and prepared to individual tastes.
HH deserves all of its 5-star ratings. For two years in a row, a team of my colleagues have resided at HH for 5-6 days while working in Lawrence and some surrounding areas. The inn keepers have been very accommodating to our diverse set of needs, including making early breakfasts for us. Although my trip to Lawrence was for business, the stay in the HH was very relaxing. In addition to the beauty of the inn itself, the location is priceless. While staying at Halcyon, you can easily walk in to downtown Lawrence, and the KU campus, and it's only a short drive to The Merc--another must-stop for all visitors to the LK. With a wide array of room types, I think HH is a good fit for a diverse group of travelers. Make sure to consider it if you're planning a trip to the Lawrence area.
Fantastic! My fiance and I spent a night here and absolutely loved it. It's just so charming! Halcyon House provides 9 rooms. Eight are inside the house and then there's Carriage House in the back, which is where we stayed. We were a bit reluctant to spend the money at first ($149 a night) but we loved it so much it was worth it! The Carriage House was like a tiny apartment with a bedroom, sitting room, bathroom (with jacuzzi tub) and a small kitchenette. There was also a deck out front so we could have friends over to hang out with us. The room itself was gorgeous--high ceilings, loft style, cool decor, SUPER comfy bed. As for the inside of the house, it was just as lovely. We didn't see any of the rooms but the kitchen is beautiful and homey with large windows looking out on the garden. There's also a sitting room with a TV and sofas for just hanging out. The staff was overly nice and they went out of their way to accommodate us in every way. And breakfast was delish! To add to the perfection, the house is just three blocks away from Mass Street, so you can wander over to hang out and it's not a far walk if you're drunk! We will DEFINITELY stay here again! But book way in advance, the rooms fill up fast!

Chef Mel has this insane experience dialed! The room ambiance is cozy. It feels as if you are actually a guest in her dining room. My daughter has been raving about Mel's talents for a couple of years now. Being here felt as if we were completely transported out of Lawrence to an exotic country. Her food flavors compliment from dish to dish. EVERYTHING coming out of her kitchen was lovingly and expertly prepared. My daughter commented 3x..."MOM!!! I have never seen you eat so much!" (Thanks Gabi)!!!! Mel has been a hidden gem...but not for long!
As those of you following along at home might be aware, After 15 years in the area, I'm in the process of moving out of KC. Also I'm recovering from major surgery. Life is stressful. What did I need? A completely relaxing, luxe experience for the husband and I to just decompress, share some quality time and instead of freaking out about the 1000 different little details of our experience, instead celebrate our success. Cafe Beautiful was a perfect choice. Walk up the stairs off of Massachusetts Street and into a converted apartment, and suddenly you're in a tranquil private dining oasis. There are two tables to accommodate different sized parties, but you'll never have to share the room. Candlelit and decorated with an Asian influence, the space is undoubtedly zen. Chef Mel poured us some honey pomegranate fruit tea. The stress was leaving my body at a rapid clip. There is no menu. For some I'm sure this could be a reason to pause, but knowing you are in expert hands and about to embark on an epicurean adventure, it made me relieved that I didn't have to make any decisions or choices. Tonight, we were eating what Mel wanted to serve. Because she had already asked if we had any food allergies or dietary restrictions, everything went smooth as silk. I took thorough notes about the meal, but in writing this review, I'm scrapping them. Each of the seven courses were delightful and I don't want to be responsible for ruining the surprise. Everything was plated beautifully, and Mel was on hand to answer questions about the dish, the restaurant in general, or herself. Because she's tending only to you, the pace is slow and relaxed, and you get to really bond with the person who is lovingly crafting your meal. That's an experience you can't get at the finest of fine dining restaurants, as the chef has many other tables to please. It's BYOB, and we opened up a decent bottle of wine, and Mel made sure our glasses stayed full. Service is top notch, which it has to be to match the food. As the meal wound down, Mel insisted we could stay and relax for as long as we needed. It was a tempting offer, as we knew that once we walked out the door it was back to the reality of uprooting our lives and tying up loose ends. The reviews don't lie, people. Cafe Beautiful is a simply phenomenal dining experience, and one I recommend you consider for the special moments in your life. Unless you're a baller, then just come here whenever you like!
Chef Mel at Cafe Beautiful prepared THE best meal I have ever eaten. All courses were perfectly delicious. I cannot thank Chef Mel enough for the experience. Sometimes you find a place and they have that one really good type of item like tri-tip or pasta. Cafe Beautiful transcends all food types. I do need to note that when you get to the "foyer" area you may feel like you are in the wrong place ... You are not.

I have never been nor will I ever be a fan of Bloody Mary's. I have even been to Frank's in Austin Texas where I'm told is home to the US's best Bloody Mary which despite their bacon-infused-vodka, I found to be lacking. I never would have believed it but Louise's West made me a convert even though I'll never drink them anywhere else again.
A token dive bar that is exactly what I like in a bar - cheap and cold beer, good prices, friendly service, and many regulars who are either great or somewhat creepy, but both are fun. This is one of the best places in Lawrence to just kick back with a cold beer on a hot day or after a long day/week at work.
I went here while I was in Lawrence for a friends wedding and loved it. Why, oh why doesn't South Bend have any bars like this? A decent selection of Boulevard beers and a great atmosphere. I cannot recommend this place enough and if I'm ever back in Lawrence this will be the first place I hit up.

The Wagon Wheel

Reviews:
I've been hearing about The Wagon Wheel for nearly four years and have been anxious to see if this dive bar lived up to expectations. As an alum of University of Arizona and huge fan of Dirtbags (our equivalent to The Wagon Wheel), I can appreciate the nostalgia that a KU graduate feels about a bar that they frequented through all the ups and downs of college. The Wagon Wheel lived up to the hype I had been hearing and I can appreciate this bar almost as much as the alumni who spent four years here. The Wagon Wheel is divey, a little smelly, pretty crowded but filled with the character, history and charm of a truly great college bar. The walls are filled with signatures and phrases written by college students from over the years. The tables are lined with KU branding. The crowd includes everyone from drunken undergrads to alumnae that probably graduated in 40's and every age in between. When we were there, a group of women walked in and started chanting at the top of their lungs "class of '92!" It was a great moment both for the women and for the bar goers witnessing it. It's filled with every walk of life and everyone is having an amazing time. The drinks are cheap but cash only so stock up at the bank before you arrive. The food is bar food but don't expect an KU student or grad to say that the food is anything less than spectacular. It could be the alcohol or the nostalgia talking but KU folks love the Wang Burger.
I'll admit, I didn't frequent this bar in college like a lot of alumni did, however, their pizza was amazing after a night of drinking. Going back now, much older than other college students, it's a lot better now than back then. One, this is one of the few places where you can go and not be the only not currently in school kid. It's definitely on the list of places to take people that visit Lawrence!
This bar is a staple for KU undergrads and grads. The Wheel pizza is delicious after a long night of partying with friends. Cheap drinks too. Don't forget to bring a sharpie to represent your sorority/frat or just your name to be etched for years to come for fellow Jayhawks to enjoy. Also, sit in the hot tub booth. Down side, closed when class is not in session. It is open on games days before and after the game when school is not in session, but the pizza may not be serving.

Sylas & Maddy’s Home Made Ice Cream

I got the five flavor sampler; you get five small scoops of ice cream in a bowl. The ice cream was thick and can fill you up (five small scoops was a lot of ice cream for me). I ended up with snickers, baklava, birthday cake, mint chip, and blueberry cheesecake. My favorite was snickers; it had chocolate and caramel pieces. My least favorite was birthday cake; the mix of cake, sprinkles, waffles(?), and other miscellaneous chunks left a strange aftertaste. I would come back to try different flavors.
The only place to get ice cream in a cone in town. SO SO good. I often buy pints :)
Great ice cream and a pretty good experience. The staff could have been friendlier as they seemed annoyed, but it was late in the day. The menu is certainly set up to nickel and dime you. A waffle cone is a different price than the waffle bowl? WHY? It's the same thing except a different shape! Overall I liked this place. But could really benefit from a more simple pricing scheme like Chipotle has.

Only Chinese I will eat in Lawrence. Sweet and sour chicken and pork fried rice is best.
maybe i eat way too much bad chinese food, but this place really surprised me a good way. this is a small, narrow chinese diner in a west lawrence strip mall with food that seems very fresh and well-prepared. i ordered a lunch special (they run 'til 3:00 PM) that costs $4.95. one gets choice of soup, egg roll, or crab rangoon along with an entree and rice. i ordered, took a seat and waited. i sat near the kitchen and heard as two youngish chinese dudes hit the woks. it probably took 10 minutes before my to-go order came out and the counter person handed me a large plastic dish inside a paper bag inside a plastic bag. oookay. i grabbed some soy sauce, a fork and hit the road. inside the final container of the package i discovered a present. what i found inside with a steaming hot serving of general tsao chicken laid on a few stems of cooked broccoli. no soy sauce needed. the sauce was rich, but wasn't overly sweet. the chicken was well-cooked with a crunchy exterior. the egg roll had a very nicely cooked exterior and tons of fresh, cooked cabbage inside. everything was piping hot. i indulged too much and my stomach isn't happy now, but the stuff was too good and too fresh. again, i'm a sucker for bad chinese like you'll find at a food court and pwns that shit. i shall return.
This is hands down the highest quality Chinese food in town, high quality, great value for your dollar!

Chipotle Mexican Grill

I've always loved Chipotle in every location even this store their "problem child". Really I've never had a problem with the service and turnover is not that bad- I'm there every week and I see the same smiling faces. Yeah, we're all familiar with Chipotle by now. Yeah, it's a big chain, but it's as good as those ever get. It really is the best food and portion you're going to get for the price from any chain anywhere. As much as I love their pork and chicken (admittedly the beef is a bit meh but I'm not a real steak eater) this has become my go-to place for vegan days, so much so that they know me as such. Yeah it's the same thing every time, but it never fails. Just... never fails, not in 20-30 times. It's always excellent food and lots of it, as delicious as vegan food gets with no skimping on portions. There's a reason why I've eaten at Chipotle, especially that particular store, literally more than any other restaurant except the places where I worked.
This is Chipotle. You know what you're in for, right? A giant burrito with tasty, fresh, sometimes local ingredients. You choose your rice (brown or white), your beans (black or pinto, pinto now bacon free!), if you want peppers and onions, your meat (chicken, pork/carnitas, steak or pulled steak/barbacoa), your salsas (mild pico, medium corn, medium green tomatillo, hot red tomatillo), and your other fixin's (cheese, sour cream, lettuce, guacamole-- guac is extra unless you get a veggie burrito). They'll add more of anything (except meat, guac and cheese) for free. But what makes this Chipotle worth 5 stars is the excellent staff. Even for a place with a lot of student employees (so a lot of turnover), almost all of the staff are friendly and helpful. Even when there's a huge line, they smile and make chit-chat without slowing down the line. I'm always happy to go here!
Big burritos with ok flavor for a decent price. My girlfriend and I can usually split a burrito here at Chipotle. We tend to get the Chicken, Vegetable or Carnitas burrito with no sour cream, no cheese, no beans, brown rice and tons of vegetables with the corn salsa and pico de gallo (extra on the side). The Carnitas are about pretty average. They lack the depth of flavor real Carnitas have. The grilled chicken is always tasty and the fajita vegetables are a nice healthy alternative to meat. The noise level here is pretty loud & it's never super clean. There are always napkins on the floor and food smeared on the tables. It's in a college town though so I guess that both of those can be somewhat expected. Overall this place can be a decent quick bite. I would recommend coming to Chipotle over La Parrilla. The quality of food is about the same and Chipotle is cheaper and much faster
