Easy to miss but I'm glad I let Yelp lead me. The location is actually Ted's Taphouse FEATURING Oh Boy Chicken. Friendly service and fresh hot food. Came intending to try the chicken but was tempted by the appetizer lobster roll (which was yummy) and sweet potato tots (which were just ok). Sunday game on...nice quiet spot on a Sunday afternoon!

Okay, I originally left a three star review but I have changed it to a one star because I was sick within an hour of eating. I do have celiacs disease so it could be that there was kitchen contamination (even tho I asked a lot of questions) but I will never eat here again. Here's the original review: Overall the food was just okay. Unfortunately, the thirty five minute wait wasn't worth it. We ordered the half chicken, broccoli, waffle, chips and peach cobbler for the table. The chips were great and the cobbler was as well but everything else was a little off in the flavor profile. I agree with a previous reviewer that the chicken tasted fishy. I think the fishy taste is probably related to the "special brine" they use for the chicken. The service was really slow which made the experience frustrating. When you wait that long for food you don't want to wait for drinks, condiments, and ultimately... The check.

I wasn't impressed with the chicken or burger and probably wouldn't go back. It wasn't bad but the chicken crust was so bland. I mean really bland, no seasonings. Jeremy's burger was blackened on the outside but medium well on the inside. I don't know how they intended it because they didn't ask for his preference.

This place is true hidden gem in Lawrence. Best chicken I have ever had. Way better than Strouds in KC. Amazing beer list as well, the owner is a great guy that has a passion for food and beer. Most of his menu is gluten free which is unbelievably amazing. I want him to offer waffles.

Literally AMAZING. Not only Gluten-Free, but FLAVORFUL. This is somewhere that is not "flavorful" OR gluten-free. It is BOTH. You will read reviews below about how this is not only the best gluten free fried chicken, but the best fried chicken hands down. Do NOT pass this place up!!!

Recently did a bit of a taste test with KFC and Oh Boy. Was a bit surprised with the results. Oh Boy is some sort of pseudo vestige of the Anglers/Orient restaurants. It was a bit dark inside and somehow a bit depressing. I visited the bathroom and saw a lovely room behind the front one - perhaps Anglers is housed here? Service was pretty good, food was hit or miss. We got the 8 piece bucket. The presentation was fairly nice for fried chicken. The chicken had a nice coating (better than KFC), but was lacking in flavor, besides a hint of fish. I suspect they fry the fish and chicken in the same oil? The mashed potatoes were pretty good, but even more so tasted fishy. The macaroni and cheese was eh. Hush puppies were pretty good - small, dense, with jalapeno, I suspect. The fries were not so great. They were the kind of thick fluffy-ish ones I don't go for; not a lot of flavor. I liked the texture of the chicken, but the flavor just wasn't there for me. I hate to say I prefer KFC. I would very much like to come try the catfish, however. That at least is meant to have some fishy flavor. Chicken takes 20 minutes, so call ahead if you want to do carry out.

It is not often that I get a chance to eat really great fried chicken but when I do it's an event for me. On a recent trip to Lawrence a buddy and I went to try Oh Boy! Chicken out and I gotta say it was really delicious. The business is at the address listed above but does serve their Cajun Fried Chicken out of their sister restaurant called The Orient which is a vietnamese place on Mass. One thing I cannot stress enough here is this: The food is MADE TO ORDER! If you are expected KFC speed with Stroud's quality you are not going to be pleased. The menu clearly states that chicken takes 20 minutes to cook and that is right on the money. If you are in a hurry call ahead of time, the food stays searing hot for about 10 minutes after it is served. Also the value you get at this place is supreme. I got a 3 piece meal with a side for under $10! People will say that other chicken places are cheaper and I agree they are, but the food quality here is really wonderful. The staff is friendly and attentive, the dining room is basic but well layed out and they usually have the tv on the Food Network just to make sure you are starving by the time the food comes out. Great Idea. I love this place and will be back many times over!

The fried chicken are extremely good. It is super yummy and tasty. I tried coleslaw and another veggie side dish and they were just okay. I would recommend you to go to this place and try their fried chicken. It is one of the kind. Currently, they combine the Angler seafood, Oh! Boy chicken, and the Orient into the same restaurant. The good thing is that we have more choices. The bad part is that the service is still the same as the Orient, which is "extremely" slow.

I'm not entirely sure if this review can do justice if Oh Boy Chicken is really amazing fried chicken, but my experience was lackluster. First of all, it was really strange to go the restaurant only to find that it serves its food out of a Vietnamese restaurant during the week. That definitely factored into the overall experience. My roommate and I both had the 3-piece meal, but the menu was worded weird and we only got three drumsticks instead of a breast, a thigh and a drumstick. My roommate ordered mac and cheese as his side, but they brought him mashed potatoes. I ordered french fries, and they were some of the worst french fries I've had. I just wonder if we had been eating at the actual Oh Boy Chicken establishment if the food quality had been better. The chicken itself wasn't too bad, but again I have a lingering thought that the chicken they served us was the "vietnamese restaurant" chicken. Better than what you get at a chinese buffet, but I'm confident that the actual Oh Boy Chicken location/kitchen serves better chicken. I think I might give Oh Boy Chicken another try. Maybe try their chicken fried steak (you can't mess up chicken fried steak too much, right?) but not during the week. Fried chicken at a Vietnamese restaurant just does not work.
