This bar is very popular among underage college students. Depending on what kind of bar scene you're in to, you will either love or hate "the hawk". If you are like me and prefer to have a glass of wine or cocktail in a more casual setting where you can have conversations or hear live music, this is not the place for you. That being said, I have many friends who enjoy this bar and consider it an icon at KU. the atmosphere is very energetic, but don't go there expecting to have any real conversations or drink anything other than cheap liquor. The music is usually today's hits played loudly over speakers, and they have pretty good deals, like dollar night on Wednesdays. If you're really looking to save money, you can do "tits for shots" where you get a free shot for flashing the bartender. I'm not judging, just not really my scene. If you're looking for a fun, cheap place to get black-out drunk, this is the place for you. If you're over 20, you might want to find another place to drink.

Read my check in. Couldnt have said it better. Dollar drinks on wednesdays, but forever sticky floors. You gotta go at least once, or you will have missed out on one of the greatest experiences known to undergraduate (and underage) Jayhawks

Wednesday night is Hawk night at KU, and all the underage college kids come out to play. The Hawk attracts KU's best and brightest freshman female talent; and that fact paired with $1 drinks for almost anything (Jack D's included) makes this place a winner in my book. They also have different music/themes in every room; so it's hard not to find something you like. Maximum Age: 21

A lot of eye candy, you won't be having an intelligent conversation all night but chances are if you are going here on a Wednesday night that's the last thing on your mind lol, worth checking out if you are between the ages of 12-23. Hands down though the hottest college girls in Lawrence will be here and at any other close Greek hangout.

The Jayhawk Cafe (aka The Hawk) is a Lawrence staple. Part of the famed "Bull-Hawk-Wheel" triangle bars, the Hawk is a must for any young Jayhawker. Yes, the crowd tends to be on the younger side but the Hawk's many rooms provide for very different experiences. Upstairs, the patio, the Martini Room and the notorious Boom-Boom Room all have their own feels and flavors. Hard to beat Dollar Night (Wed) for student-friendly drink prices. It's hard to not have a good time at the Hawk, and I'll leave it to your imaginations to figure out what goes on in the Boom-Boom Room!

Seriously, this place is SLEAZY. Filled with drunk Frat guys and underage girls, this place is just about the sketchiest bar in Lawrence. It is dirt cheap on dollar night (Wednesdays) and girls always get in for no cover. Honestly the only reason I would recommend going here is if you either want to get roofied (which one of my friends was) or if you are underage.

My first time ever in Kansas and the first American bar I have ever been to. I don't think they even asked for my I.D. We went in on a Wednesday and there was a cover for dollar night. Its a very loud college bar. The line was ok and once we got in it was straight to business... I remember walking in but I do not remember walking out. I hope I had a good time...

It's a KU classic. Dollar nights on Wednesdays are great but it is a younger scene. A great place to bring visitors.

If you are from out of town watching your favorite football team beat up on the Jayhawks, you may be tempted to make a trip to this bar located down the street from Memorial Stadium. Heed this local Lawrence man's warning; this place is a total piece of crap. Every square inch of this bar is sticky from spilled drinks and vomit. Expect to wait in very long lines for watered down drinks. You might even catch a glimpse of people having sex in the "boom boom" room downstairs, like what happens every Halloween. You won't be able to move around very freely as it is always overpacked with drunk freshman. Which brings me to my next point: "The hawk" is a notorious underage bar. You will be surrounded by dumb little kids who have no idea how to drink like normal people. They are all amateurs and they all all very annoying. It makes me shudder to think of how many out of town fans were exposed to this place, and the impression it put on them. Here in Lawrence we have a saying: "once you turn 21, you are too old to go to the hawk."
