Their t-shirts say "Destination BBQ". Yes, it is a drive out of the Metro but definitely worth it. Once you walk in you are immediately welcomed. The wait staff was super attentive but not in your face. I split the combination plate with beef, pork, 2 ribs, baked beans and slaw with a choice of bread. Get either the white or wheat roll which are homemade. We had the wheat. Shockingly, knowing my affection for all things hot and spicy, I really liked the regular sauce better. The hot was fine but lacked the extra sweetness punch the regular had. I really appreciate having meats served unsauced. I did add some of the sauce to my beef and pork. But it was the amount I wanted so I could still taste the meat. The ribs were tender and well smoked. The baked beans rivaled my father's and he makes damn good sweet baked beans. I could have had another helping. The slaw was good and tasted homemade rather than out of a carton. After 5pm, they serve pizza. It must be good because a table of people came in just for the pizza without knowing it isn't served until after 5pm. They ended up ordering something else but raved about the pizza. All in all, Hillsdale BBQ is good BBQ and maybe pizza too? A huge plus is they are open on Sundays and most Metro BBQ places aren't.

Nice BBQ place, the wife and I went there for lunch. The BBQ was good, nice place in a old bank. We enjoyed the food and friendly service. We would go there again. If your looking for something different this is the place.

We ate there early November after hearing it had good food. That was far from the case. Dirty! Dirty! Dirty! The table was sticky gross as were the sauce and ketchup bottles on the table. Look out for falling dust bunnies! I wonder if this place has ever been inspected by the health department. The beef and pork were dry, overcooked and way too much smoke flavoring. The beans tasted old and re-heated. The coleslaw was mushy and bland. The homemade fries were soggy and scorched. What a disappointment all around! Everything we ate tasted like poorly prepared leftovers. Another customer complained about the dry meat also and I overheard the server mention that they were still serving last weeks meat. Seriously? EWWW! Only open Fri., Sat., and Sun. so they save Sunday's leftovers and serve it next Friday? Nasty! The portions were small and the prices were steep! If you enjoy eating dry meat, you wouldn't have any leftovers. (not that you would want them) The don't have a liquor license or a soda fountain. So 3.2% beer and no soda refills on top of the high prices. Save yourself a trip and find an Oklahoma Joe's. You will save money and go home with leftovers you will WANT to eat! The building is cute and unique from the outside, but beware of what lurks inside. If you have to drive to this establishment you are wasting gas money!

Mouthwatering BBQ, exactly what you would dream of if you dreamed of BBQ. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, built inside an old bank brick building with an old caboose attached for extra seating. It is a fun place to bring the family or a casual date. I ordered the burnt ends, and other guests ordered pizza, and pulled pork so we each had a taste of their menu. It was all fabulous! The Burnt Ends had the perfect caramelization and smoked flavor, not too burned and perfectly season-less! I say season-less, because like me, this establishment believes that real good meat, shouldn't need to be overly seasoned. The sauce was optional, and was sweet, tangy, and full of the most well balanced spice and flavor I have ever tasted. After dinner, we enjoyed a little walk outside in their cute garden. I highly encourage anyone looking for good BBQ and great service to stop at the Hillsdale bank and check it out!

3.0 stars. Chugga, chugga, chugga, choo, choo! The next stop for the BBQ crew was Hillsdale Bank Bar B Q. And, yes they've converted a portion of the restaurant into a caboose. It's adjacent to the train tracks. Not totally out of left field. Anyhow, its a pretty cool nostalgic atmosphere, overall, inside and out. It used to be the Hillsdale Bank. They've managed to turn a profit from BBQ while borrowing from its original layout. Despite the lush environment, garden also included, the food was confused. Not fully committed, such as a non fixed interest. The pork burnt ends were as confused as the layout, considering it was simply pulled pork with some of the "end" of it. Kind of disappointing. Or was it a BBQ robbery? The sauce was outstanding, as advertised. It definitely gave interest to the meat. And paid "dividends." Ooey, gooey, spicy, robust sauce. Deserves the bottling it has. The sides were like a bank levy on my stomach. Ease up on the salt? Please, I went from a normal blood pressure to cardiac arrest. Jk. But, yes, heavy on the salt. All in all, I can see why people love this place. It's different and unique. But, as for BBQ, its an average spot with better rates. Sincerely, "it pays to discover."

When I moved to Kansas City from San Francisco I wanted to try some of that delicious Midwestern BBQ everyone raves about. I tried some of the places that are recommended online but was disapointed with the lack of ambiance. This place is all about the ambiance! It's not touristy at all, just a small town gem with great food. I'm a former veggie, so I don't do ribs or anything crazy, but they have a sliced turkey that turned out to be an excellent choice. Thier sauce can be purchased by the bottle. My family is coming out from California next month and of all the BBQ places in Kansas City, this is the one I'm insisting they try.

This place is definitely a hidden little gem...don't miss out on this one. The old bank building makes for a cool atmosphere, complete with a wood burning stove! The employees were some of the most friendly and helpful I've seen, and the food makes this place quite high on my list of favorite KC BBQ. I ordered the rib and meat combo with ham, beans, homemade wheat bread and french fries. As others have mentioned, their regular sauce is great, and it might be my favorite KC BBQ sauce. Positives: -Fantastic food, not served with sauce or seasoning. YOU decide how much want. -Very friendly service -Awesome BBQ sauce. Hot was good, but their regular sauce is the winner. -Homemade bread! Negatives: -Might be a bit of a drive for some, especially those in the North KC area. -Only a seasonal place, you're out of luck if you want some BBQ in the winter. A great KC BBQ place - and definitely worth the trip if you have to drive a bit to get here. I'll definitely be back, the flatbread pizzas are calling my name...

Leaving the city and moving out to the middle of no-where, I had reservations about finding any good food. I was used to having the ever divine L.C.'s BBQ up in the city. And once you have been spoiled with that quality of brisket and pulled pork... you worry that you've been ruined for other BBQ places. I worried for nothing! Hillsdale Bank Bar B Que is FANTASTIC! You would not expect, in the middle of no-where to find such fine ribs and awesome pulled pork! We've been enjoying their fine BBQ since 2001 and I have never had anything less the stellar food! Unfortunately, they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Because of the old building they are in, they close right before Christmas and don't open again until February. But, if you are out there in the winter, the old pot belly stove will be roaring with a welcoming fire and Bev will be there with a smile to greet you. Good service, great food and a true country BBQ atmosphere. You won't be disappointed if you make the trip out for their wonderful BBQ.

Their BBQ is great -- but their wood-fired pizza is awesome!

Absolutely, hands-down, the best burnt ends ever! They don't need anything because they are perfection on a plate! The hand cut fries are delish, too!

Sometimes you are blessed with an absolutely perfect day. It started off with taking a country drive buying produce and wine from small local farms and wineries and ended up with a great dinner at Hillsdale Bank BBQ. A lovely drive and right off Hwy 169 in one of my favorite counties we easily found our destination on Frisco Street. We were offered indoor or outdoor seating and decided since it was such a perfect day we'd sit outside. Our table, was right by a fountain overlooking a whimsical garden. We ordered some drinks and had a tough time making up our minds what to order. I had heard through a friend about this place only being open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and that the owner stoke the fire for smoking their meats throughout the night. That had me sold right there. I ordered a combination plate and got burnt ends and ribs. It came with a choice of sides and I ordered potato salad, cole slaw and fries. Everything was homemade. As if the gigantic servings weren't enough they through in 2 slices of bread and a dill spear too. The meat was fall off the bone, fork tender delicious. The owners were as nice as could be and it made for a fabulous end for an all ready wonderful day. The prices were very reasonable, and we thought it was so good, that we went back the following night to try their wood fired pizza which was great. Do yourself a favor, take a drive south from the city and check them out. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
