best Mexican food I have EVER had. all the restaurants in Kansas city do not even come close. I am a huge fan, it is a must stop for me once a week. their whole menu is excellent but I recommend enchiladas or tamales! can't go wrong. I love their hot salsa, but my only complaint is their mild salsa is very average.... great staff, great service!

We were just in the area and really liked it. Great food, service and prices!

Good stuff. Similar to OTB, but nicer. It's a simple clean place with a friendly helpful staff. They don't have Sonoran Hot Dogs, but the food that they do have is prepared well and we'll go back.

My wife and I love this place and its almost become a weekly affair for us. When we go outta town and have sub-par food, we can't wait to get home and come back to La Caretta. The food is great. The menu isn't necessarily the most amazing variety, because its very simple. I typically order 1 of 3 dishes on a pretty consistent basis and its always good! The dishes are great portions and they are usually accommodating to give you the lunch portion during dinner time. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and they always recognize us. Never had bad service, ever. The Espinaca Cheese dip is a must. Their chips are always fresh and never-ending. Probably the best Mexican food in the Kansas City area, for the price, you just can't beat it. Being that its so close to home, makes it even better.

Very good "authentic" mexican food. A little heavy on the cilantro for me, but they do not have to put it on the food, if you request it. The combo fajita platter was unbelievably good. They make chorizo in house, that is in there, and the sausage flavoring permeates the dish, along with the shrimp, chicken, and beef. Yum. Another dish that is good is the camarones ala diabla. The plate is humongous. You can get it with the spicy whole beans, which I would recommend. Service is attentive but not overbearing. Drinks are always kept full, and the adult beverages are always cold. Overall, a good place to go.

The beans here are gross, the atmosphere is cool, service is just ok. Other than that, the other food is decent yet over priced. There are other places in town I would rather eat. I wouldn't say this is "authentic" I would say it is authentic semi americanized food. Most people like this better because it isn't as dive-y....I prefer the dive down the street. Better service, better food, more authentic.

I really liked the lanterns and wanted to stuff them in my pockets to hang at my house, but alas, but I forgot to wear my clown pants. The service as super speedy and the chips and salsa they put down in front us as soon as we sat down were fresh and yummy. I love the cilantro and bits of green onion is the salsa. I could have just ate chips and salsa and been a happy camper. I did order steak fajitas and they were good. I personally like having other colored peppers in my fajitas, so they were a win. Next time, I'll venture out and try something new.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant out of the options in town. Good enchiladas and fajita steak. The salsa is good. The margaritas are kind of weak sometimes or else I would give five.

Bland food. Good prices and big portions. I only go here when I have a company outing and there are serious shortages of places to eat in Gardner. Go to El Panzote for real Mexican food.

Don't miss out on the spinach dip or the hot salsa (special request). Service is prompt and everything seems of good quality - the food is very tasty, fresh, and served up hot

We love to stop and eat here on our way through. I would have ranked higher but the mariachi band is extremely too loud. It made our dinner less enjoyable.

Ate here yesterday with my wife for her birthday. The food was good and hot which was a plus. My food arrived fairly quick, but my wives food didn't arrive until much later. The salsa was bland and not very tasty. I ordered chili rellenos they were plentiful and heat hot, but not spicy hot. The refried beans were of a different flavor. When my wife finally got her dish, it was hot and fresh. She had ordered a shrimp dish. The shrimp was cooked very good and the accompanying vegetables were plentiful. I had mentioned to the waiter it was her birthday and was met with a shrug. The overall experience was lukewarm at best. I've eaten much better and much worse. This place is a 50/50 on my list. Give it a try it might be a better experience for you.

Loved the food and service! My boyfriend complained because he wanted some weird special order type of thing and the waitress repeated it back to him two different times, he didn't get what he had ordered but he never said anything else about it until we left so he can't really complain. My was amazing though and the margaritas were great too. Second time we went there everything was perfect! Great fish tacos!

We stopped here after golfing at Sycamore Ridge in Spring Hill. It had a nice atmosphere and what looked to be a decent sized patio. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We had the super nachos, the chicken magnifico, Monterrey burrito and Barbacoa burrito. Loved the nachos - they were NOT a pile of chips covered with toppings, but instead tortilla quarters layered nicely with all of the toppings! Way more enjoyable way to eat nachos. The only complaint was that the meat was a little over cooked in the Barbacoa burrito. Everyone thought the flavors were good though. I thought the margaritas had a little too much sweet and sour. We spent $30 for 2 meals and a margarita. We would not hesitate to go back if we were in the area, but wouldn't drive out of our way to go.

I got the lunch steak fajitas yesterday, and everything was delicious except for the steak was very chewy (which wasn't a huge surprise since most places are for steak fajitas). Good consistency to the salsa as well. I will go again!

Great Mexican restaurant in Gardner. The dishes are pretty typical for the area, and the servings are large. Is there anywhere that you get more bang for your buck than the Mexican joints in the KC Metro? They all give you a ton of food. I've always found the service to be fantastic, and the prices are very fair. Always be sure to check out the special, and it's often something not on the menu, and almost always an awesome deal. For me, the only thing they don't do well is the salsa, it just doesn't hit the spot for my taste. That's so personal though that I don't hold it against them at all. Definitely give this a place a shot when visiting Gardner.

Super fast service. Low prices & large portions. Menu items are very consistant which is good if you are regulars like us. It's our favorite place to eat in Gardner.

Not a bad mexican restaurant. It is located in Gardner, KS and is a little hard to get to if you don't know where you are going. Prices are very reasonable and they do have a lot of selections. We went in with a group of 16 and were immediately sat down and the service was fantastic. The food seems very much on the "gringo" side of things meaning not a whole lot of spice or flavor, however, the chips and salsa was phenomenal and the best part is they had home made hot salsa. The mild was also home made and it did have a very nice flavor with some smoky chipotle flavor to it. Overall very good restaurant for a small city with not a lot of restaurant selections.

It was just alright. Food was good except for the refried beans. Nice atmosphere.

Fresh chips and salsa! The house made salsa had great flavor. The cost was a little higher than I expected, which was ok because the portions were enormous! I had dinner and lunch the next day. We ordered an assortment of different entrees and everyone was happy. We also got a couple desserts that were good! My only complaint, that's really nit picky, the table wobbled. Will be back for sure!

Just opened today! Pretty good. I think all Mexican places taste the same, but they had good service and good food.

I don't remember too much about this place and it's been a few months since I've been, so I'm guessing it couldn't have blown me away if I don't remember much about it. We went for my grandfather's birthday and he got to wear the sombrero and they sang to him; fun.

La Carreta is a friendly, family owned restaurant in Gardner, KS. We like the tacos al pastor the best and come often for the atmosphere and hospitality.

I compare La Carreta to Mi Ranchito. And since there's no 'rito in Gardner, this is where to go! The espinaca cheese dip is delicious and their chips are just right with the crunchy/salty mix. I've had burritos, enchiladas, and tacos at La Carreta and have been happy with all of it. They have a wide variety in their menu as well as having lunch specials. Wednesday night is $1 domestic beer night and their margaritas are wonderful. Enjoy!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
