I don't know what's happening at Maria's recently, but the service has declined seriously. On my last two visits, the hostess was really surly with me and other customers. The waitress (same both times) was a disaster. She is so slow and doesn't listen. One night, she brought us our check with her coat on and cigarettes in her hand--clearly she needed a break. You stay classy, okay? Don't know why she was so desperate for that break either; she hadn't been working too hard! I hope they get things straightened out. People here can easily travel to St. Joe or North KC for dinner...

Not very expensive. Burrito loco with steak is my go to. I've never gotten anything else here. It's very very good. Margaritas were also good. Good selection of domestic and imported beer

I was not impressed with Maria's. The food is bland but it wasn't unpleasant just not much oomph to it. I had a burrito in white cheese sauce with some guacamole. It filled me up but it wasn't singing to me like Mexican food usually does. The locals seem to really like it because the place was packed on a Friday night and it is in a clean, downtown area. Parking is convenient, either on the lot or on the street. Friendly atmosphere and good service. Prices are decent.

This Mexican restaurant has issues. They refused to make coffee so I ordered a diet Pepsi my husband got a glass of water when the check came we were charged for two drinks. The locals who packed this place might like the food but we ordered enchiladas the sauce came out of a can. I can honestly say they did not taste like any enchiladas I have ever tasted. I would not recommend you eat here

Love this place. What a neat find in this sleepy little town, a pearl! Service pleasant and attentive without pressuring the customer. Food was good. Salsas impressive with lots of garlic kick and fresh notes. Average fair prices. Would have loved to see more traditional fare, but was just there for lunch. Good eats. Definately not TexMex so heat is turned down a bit.

Stopped by on our way through town...INCREDIBLE food...not your typical Mexican fare...this feels and tastes like a little "abuelita" has been cooking the food since 5 in the morning. HIGHLY recommend!

Maria's is easily the best restaurant in town, and while that isn't saying much, certainly holds its own. The food and the service are good, nothing to complain about. If you're stopping in town for a quick tasty meal that isn't too expensive, definitely go to Maria's. You won't regret it.

Have been there numerous times in the past, always had excellent service, hot delicious food, but went a couple of nights ago on Tuesday with my mother, I had bragged about it to her. Never will I go back! Now mind you, the food was still good, but it was cold to the touch and I would have complained to our waitress, but never saw her again. Well, let me rephrase that, we saw her plenty, as we were sitting smack dab in the middle of the room, but she never once checked to see if we needed anything. When we first arrived, we were seated right away but it was 10 min before she came to get our drink order, 4 waters, then another 15 min to come back for our food order, waited 20 got our food, which was NOT freshly made, then nothing. I shook my water glass at her a few times when my "Excuse Me" was ignored, didn't matter, I never did get more water. I complained to the " manager" and yes, she comped part of the meal, but was not apologetic. NOT the way a manager should come across and I think she may have been mad because I didn't leave a tip. I typically tip over 20% but I didn't leave one red cent. Will not return to this restaurant which is sad because the food is good, but if I wanted to wait on myself, I would stay home and save $50

Great margaritas! Shrimp tacos were just shrimp in tortillas. Not great. Hubby's enchiladas were pretty good though. The beans are pretty standard, but the rice is gross. First time I've ever seen bits of corn, peas, and carrot mixed into Mexican rice. Pass. Chips and salsa are tasty, but warning: my cousin used to work here and he told us they "recycle" the leftover salsa back into the pitcher after you leave. But for Atchison, it's overall actually pretty good.

Mexican in a 50s styled diner themed restaurant.... well it works! They recently picked up their liquor licence, and the margaritas compliment the cuisine. I have been multiple times now, and tried something different each time, all have been good. Staff was pleasant and prompt (even with a full house). If you are in the mood for mexican, I say give it a shot.

Probably the best Mexican Restaurant in Atchison! The salsa is fantastic and their cheese sauce is delicious. The restaurant has a lot of variety with regards to the food, and is expanding its liquor selection. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for some delicious mexican food.

It's clean , and prices are decent, the staff are very friendly. But so is everyone is this wonderful lil town. But as far as real Mexican food , or even a close miss to it no, salsa is good , , Margarita's are the best, Have a couple of those bad boy's , come with someone you enjoy being with , and maybe just maybe you can forget that you've had a better food at a Taco Bell drive thru, but the drinks ,staff , and popular with the locals , everyone seems to have a good time , WILL MAKE UP FOR IT....

This is our favorite place to go for Mexican. That is saying a lot since my husband grew up in Texas and is therefore pretty picky. The chips and salsa are good, the cheese dip is even better! I really enjoy the chimichanga with shrimp and my husband usually likes the fajitas or one of the burritos. The burritos take up a whole plate so, you better be hungry. The staff is friendly and service is usually pretty fast. I highly recommend Maria's if you're in town!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
