Not bad. Pretty standard mex fare, but served quickly. Down at the bottom of a right hand page, I spotted the tacos paisas. Definitely closer to what I wanted. We checked out Velia's Tacos off the square and walked out after having read the menu. Carreton didn't have enough pork for me, but in relation to other nearby options, it's ok.

Love their fajitas, get em every time we go! The staff is always super friendly and even take time to interact with my two girls. The other day we went and before I could even ask they brought out a small plate so we could just share food with the youngest. Its like they are always one step ahead of the game. Will keep going back for sure.

Always a great local place to eat. Service and food are consistent. Have really only been disappointed in one dish over the years. For those who are local- it's a great idea for catering a small party or graduation. We used them for the latter. Yeah, we had to pick up the food ourselves since we live in the outer reaches, but- plenty of food for the number of guests...which meant leftovers!!! We consider that to be a graduation present...especially having an extra gallon of salsa and lots of chips...that duo is nearly a signature item. Only complaint I have is the sweet tea...but I'm not sure it's fair to rate this place on something such as that. (I'd have to be from Carmel or Zionsville to get that petty!)

Great Mexican food. The Fajitas were great and the quantity and quality was really good. Nice atmosphere and pricing was very good also. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a good authentic Mexican style dinner.

Firstoff, I'm super duper pleased to be seeing some WInchester Yelp action on the charts. I've been going to El Carreton since they opened several years ago at their strip mall location. They have consistently served delicious authentic meals with friendly smiles and quick service. I always find myself overindulging in the chips and salsa with little room left over for tasty entrees like chile rellonos, beef burritos and tacos. I'd also like to give their margaritas a well-deserved nod. A few wild nights and rough mornings have led me to despise tequila but their salted margaritas are an exception to the rule.

Very good Mexican food! It was much better than I expected. I had the Chiles Colorado with chicken. It was very spicy, but not overpowering. The service was also great! Everyone was friendly.

For being "small-town Winchester," this place is truly a hit with just about everyone. When transferring the restaurant over from a once "chicken dinner" spot - they did a superb job. The Mexican feel when you walk in seems to be truly authentic. As a small town goes, when you walk in your bound to see at least 10-15 people you know. No exaggeration.

Just tried to eat dinner there. Were told they were slow so they closed early. What in the world? On a Saturday night they decide to close early? That's messed up. Especially when we just drove a half hour to get there. Won't be going back ever again.

Great food & friendly service. I remember going here when it first opened, & now they've been there 4 years. The type of Mexican food you get at those places that seem like chains-bright colours & Mexican folk art usually accompanies these places. They all also seem to have Armando Bros. pizza on the menu, which is amazing. A great place for vegetarians as well-lots to choose from & I love the chiles rellenos. Now that I've moved to Indy though, I haven't been here in a while. I need to remedy that. My only complaint is that the sopapillas are flat & not big fluffy pillows I ate growing up in New Mexico. Everything I've tried here is delicious & reminds me of Hacienda Camino Real in Richmond.

El Carreton, why must you be so far from me!!!!! This place is awesome and if you are ever near Randolph County, take the trip to Winchester and go to this place. It's rare you'll find this place not busy, but the staff are wonderful and the food is even better. I don't know what's so different about this place from other mexican restaurants, but I promise there really is a difference. Also, the dishes are big, but very reasonably priced. El Carreton is a must-do every time we are back in our hometown! PS. I recommend the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla.. AMAZING!

Little joint in middle of nowhere Winchester continues to surprise - despite 2 previous strong reviews from me. It's been over 2 years since my last review on this place. Pops celebrating his birthday chose his favorite nearby Mex for lunch, so of course, we went! He selected 1/2 order of the Nachos Real and I the Cali Burrito (you can only get it off the lunch menu. Did this place change their recipe for the table salsa?! They must have. It was fantastic and I don't recall it being so delicious previously. Both of us had most excellent entrees and left completely sated for $14 and a generous tip. You won't be disappointed here.

Really thought it was a 5 Star, due to its beautiful dining area, entrance, & very friendly servers, but the food items seemed to have been sitting; soggy & slightly warm. The staff are exceptionally pleasant, & the facility is as beautiful as any around. Perhaps my plate just got set aside, but the chimichanga was soggy. It was a great place, & I will return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
