This is a burger place I go to when I want a sit down meal with a diner style feel. I've never had a bad burger, and tonight I also had soup with it (Vegetable Beef). Their burgers themselves are very good, and tonight I had one of the mushroom and swiss variety. They do serve generous portions of french fries and its free refills on the pop. Cool place close to home for great comfort food...oh yea their soups are good too.

This Schoops is awesome! Their shakes and malts are incredibly addicting, and their appetizers are totally tasty! Their Cheeseburgers are unreal, and huge as a house! The waitresses and cashiers are very friendly and quite witty as well.

This place does have excellent burgers but I have one suggestion for them... PLEASE MELT THE CHEESE ON THE CHEESEBURGERS. I find it incredibly annoying to open up the bun on my "Micky" and see 2 cold pieces of cheese staring up at me. This has happened numerous times and I'm tired of asking the waitresses to remedy this situation. Everything else is great.

Love their Mickey burger. I get Irish fries. The staff is really cool too. I just wish they would renovate their locations. I like the 50's feel but if we could just get a more inviting look for the dining area. That would be cool...

First off, this place is a diner, located a in a town you visit to get cheap gas, booze, and fireworks that are illegal in Chicago. It's not supposed to be all that clean. I bought a Groupon before I saw the Yelp reviews on this place, and once I read about the smells and other issues, I was hesitant to give this location a try. I'm happy to say that my experience differed from those of the most recent reviewers. I detected no gasoline or other offensive odors upon entry. Parking was limited, but I can say the same thing about any sushi restaurant on the North Side, no big deal. I was invited to sit down shortly upon entry and was waited on quickly. The waitress was nice and friendly. The burgers are hand-made and are relatively thin, but large in diameter. The meat extends well past the bun, making the burgers look huge. To maintain a good ratio between meat and everything else on the burger, a double patty might be in order. The burgers are made fresh, and are brought to you hot. The extras, such as grilled onions and jalapenos are pricy, and can easily add a few dollars to the price of your dish, so watch out. The french fries are big enough to share unless you've really got an appetite. They are pretty standard, not the best, not the worst. They sell chili cheese fries, but I couldn't make room in my stomach. Lunch for my Dad and I was about $28, cheaper after the Groupon. There are better burgers to be had for similar prices, but I was relatively pleased with my experience. If I could give it a 3.5, I would. It doesn't deserve a 4, but 3 seems like a bit of a snub. If you want a decent burger at an ok price, and don't want to dress nicely, go here. If you're kind of a fancy pants that want gourmet burgers served in a pristine setting, this might not be the place for you.

We arrived on our way to Michigan from Chicago for a quick meal before officially hitting the road. I'd read good reviews before, and it didn't disappoint ! Fresh burgers, crisp fries, very friendly service in an old, family-owned style diner setting. Really loved our waitress. She was kind to everyone, including a table full of children all asking for different drinks. Five stars !

Love, love their burgers. Sure, its a bit on the pricey side 4 a burger but believe me they are really good. The portions are huge as well. We normally spend around $20 for 2 of us. The chili is really good, fries are good and the burgers are awesome. They make they're on burgers so they always come in different shapes and sizes. Its a good change from all the other burgers around. Definitely worth trying.

Great burgers! My only complaint is that the bathrooms and decor need updating...but the food is incredible! I had a hamburger (huge!) and a basket of fries. Can't ask for a better burger.

Hair in the food, cold fries and poor service. No apology for the hair - just a snappy "You wanna nother?" We won't be going back.

As other reviewers have noted, this review applies only to the Whiting Schoop's location. With that said... Not much parking here. Pulled into the lot shared with Subway and found a space right next to the entrance. And everyone jokes about the air quality being poor in Whiting due to BP, Cerestar, Lever Brothers, and other industry, but save the bracing until you open the entry door. When you step into the entrance of the Whiting Schoop's, close your eyes and take a deep whiff. I dare you to envision yourself somewhere other than a gas station bathroom! The entrance reeks of urine and chemicals. So, when we held our breath and walked in for a takeout lunch today, there was one table seated in the dining room and one waitress/counter girl talking to the customers. We sat down at the diner right in front of the cash register and the telephone. Several minutes later, we are still waiting, and the phone rings. The waitress walked over, answered the phone, put the caller on hold, and walked into the kitchen without saying a word to us or even looking at us. She came back out of the kitchen, again without speaking to us or making eye contact, picked up the phone, and proceeded to take an order from the caller! We looked at each other, nodded, got up from our stools, held our breath again, and left, as the waitress finished taking the phone order. So, in a nutshell, the place reeks like dirty gas station, and the service is the worst -- the absolute worst. And do you know what? We drove 20 minutes to the Munster Schoop's where we were greeted by a friendly waitress the instant we walked in the door, our order was taken promptly, and we took home a good lunch without any offensive smell. And there were at least 8 people we saw working, and several tables of diners in a clean, friendly, efficient restaurant. The moral of this story? Do NOT go to the Whiting Schoop's. They do NOT deserve the business!

For weeks my pops was raving about the best burger he's had in his life. He said it was so good that if I drove him he would buy my meal. He went to the one on Orland park but I found one closer to my home in Indiana. It was pretty good but I expected more with all the hype around it. It reminded me of fat burger just not as spectacular. Not that it was bad but apparently this location is not as good.

My review applies to this location only: Burger was bland. Fries are terrible. Service was not very attentive nor friendly.

The burgers were sloppy and dry. We had fries too and nothing had flavor we had to drown our stuff in ketchup, which helped a little but it was still pretty bad. I had an over prized malt in a kids cup. I regret to coming to this place!

Good burger place but I really cannot remember the last time I went to a restaurant at 8:15 at night and they started to put chairs up and I asked if it was to late, they said no and then at 8:32 they came and told us well we close at 9. This was right after they gave us our food. We where the only ones here. You think they would want more business. What a crappy service. Then we had to ask for more pop. WAY TO EXPENSIVE FOR THE FOOD YOU GET !!!!!!!!

I would have gotten more satisfaction if someone punched me in the gut while taking $20.00 from my wallet in the parking lot. I got there an hour after opening on last Sunday. The entire staff (clad in basketball shorts and old T-shirts - very unprofessional) was lounging around and quickly dispersed at my arrival. I was seated and ordered a single cheese burger, Irish Fries, and a soda. My first impression - Everything is filthy. The floors, windows, booths, silverware... Instead of sitting on their duffs - The staff could clean something. I was the only person in this business for obvious reasons until another poor soul wandered in shortly after. The food arrived and I was underwhelmed. This burger was overcooked, the Irish fries became soggy immediately. At least the Green River soda was refreshing. All of this enjoyment for $16.00 out of the door. I could have gotten a better meal at Wendy's for $6.00 with no tip expected. I don't mind paying $25 for a burger (Rockit) as long as the quality is there. As a farewell surprise, I got stomach cramps 20 minutes later as I was driving back to the city requiring an emergency restroom stop on the south side near 79th street.

I took my husband & Nephew the next time we went to horseshoe (it is a mile east on Indianapolis blvd). they loved it. I have a picture of my heavenly burger..so hopefully I can post it soon.!It is your typical little diner. The day we were there we sat by juke box and picked some tunes...the waitress was suprised it worked ..SO LUCKY US. Yummy shakes, fresh burgers and some tunes! Great stop for a quick bite.

The prices are relatively high, the food is bland, and the place looks and smells like a bathroom. The service is also very hit-or-miss. Schoops is on my instant veto list.

Schoops is pretty popular in NW Indiana, but I can't say I'm a big fan of their burgers. Their burgers are typically too crispy and overdone for my taste and a bit pricy for a diner burger. I like their tuna melt for a change of menu, but again, a little on pricier side for a diner meal.

I love Schoops burgers... I mean they are hearty and handmade. Not that formed heated stuff you can get from burger king or Mcdonalds anytime. My grandfather actually lives in Indiana and we went to try it after deciding not to go to Horseshoe Casino to eat or dairy queen( which I also LOVE!!! and it right next door to schoop's). I had a vanilla shake, cheese fries, triple chesse burger with everything, and the potato bite things (i forgot the name of the dish)... Perfect Food!!!

I cannot say enough good things about these burgers. Home made and just enough crispiness...just perfect. The service is always friendly too. May consider eating here at least once a week if the boyfriend didn't freak out at the thought of all that grease. The shakes are very good too.
