Keith’s

Reviews:
I must give Keith's 5 stars because of the great steaks my wife and I had there about a month ago. I have been coming here for 20 years and have never been disappointed, even after Gus left. Definitely the best Steak in Northwest Indiana. Seafood is also very good. Service is prompt and friendly, and the prices are reasonable for the portion size. Keep it up
Hidden treasure I found while working in Whiting, IN. Food was great. Definitely looking forward to going back. I had the sweet pea ravioli with marinara sauce. It was fantastic! Peas stuffed whole inside were bright green, fresh and full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I also had the veal meatballs which were just ok. They were a little too firm and maybe needed more cheese. I personally use a mixture of veal, beef and pork in mine. Everything on the menu looks great. It is a bit pricey... The ribeye steak sandwich is $17 most of the entrées are $20 plus but for the quality I would say that price is fair. Only criticism is I wanted to call my order in and they did not have a menu online. I was worried it was going to be typical bar food. I headed over there and saw the menu, which I will be posting on here. Apparently, from what I was told, the owner refuses to put the menu online. Regardless it is fantastic and everything looks great. My type of place! Went back for the pumpkin Raviolli with the pear wine sauce... A little too sweet for me. Another time I had the ribeye steak sandwich. Ribeye steak sandwich. At first I thought it was pricey at $18 but now I see why. It's a full Ribeye steak with veggies and potatoes and a really great brioche bun. Best I have had.
Their dinners may be a bit on the pricey side, around $80 to $100 for a couple, that's drinks, appetizer, and meals. They tend to use a lot of garlic, which in my opinion enhances the flavor of the food they serve. I recommend you make reservations and keep in mind that dinner is only available on Friday and Saturday evenings. Ask for a window seat when making a reservation. They have this little table for two in the back, which is up against the wall and in the line of traffic. They sat us their once which was very uncomfortable, and attempted to sit us there again the 2nd time we went there for dinner. We chose to eat at the bar instead. I would have given them 5 stars if it was not for that table. Bottom line, food is good, atmosphere is good, except for that on e table, and the price is worth it.

I'm gonna tell you the darn truth about this here Dino's. I have gotten speeding tickets on Lake Shore Drive trying to get some Dino's. I think everyone should be required to eat here at least once so that they understand the amazing food that is what Whiting knows to be Dino's. Delicious Dino's Try it. I dare you!
I love Dino's! Wish I could give this place 6 STARS because the pizza and service is just that good!
I just tried Dino's for the first time today, though I had heard of it several years ago, and I must say it was good. Being a true Pizza lover and fanatic I know it's not the best I've had nor the best in the region, but I would definately suggest trying it. Heck, it seemed really affordable too. It was only 17-something for an Extra-Large Sausage and Mushroom/ Half Pepperoni. All the toppings were tasty and the sauce was good also. I will definately order from there again. Maybe it will be even better next time. I've noticed that among the pizza places in my area. They sometimes taste different from one time to the next, and sometimes they get tastier each time too.

I ordered 2 pizzas tonight because the streets were bad from the snow/ice. I figured when I called that delivery would be well over an hour because nobody wanted to go out in this weather. The really nice guy on the phone said it would be over an hour. They were here in 34 minutes and not only was the pizza fantastic but the delivery driver was nice, good mood, happy..........even though he was out delivering in gross weather. Gusto's is awesome. Period.
Got delivery and it was faster than expected and told. That's big points for me. The pizza was just your run of the mill stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary special, but it was tasty nonetheless. The sauce had a savory accent to it and the cheese was nice and thick...actually tasted like cheese. Well priced, too. Would definitely order again.
Being new to the area, I tried all the pizza places near me...gusto's pizza won my business! I recommend extra sauce :)

White Castle

1879 Indianapolis Blvd
Whiting, 46394
Reviews:
I have a theory that explains why this particular White Castle makes the best sliders: it's the presence of the nearby refineries that adds to the flavor! Seriously, the sulphur in the air seems to complement that released by the onions as they cook, and it all comes together in the careful hands of the longtime staff who operate this WC. I cannot oveemphasize the importance of carefully constructing a slider; you don't just slop it all together as some WC employees elsewhere in Chicagoland do. No, you have to maintain the integrity of the pickle, bun, burger and onions as you pat them into place in their box. You want to make something good? Then take the time to do it right like these folks do! Now, if I could just figure out a way to sneak some garlic salt into their salt shakers for the next batch they cook - HEAVEN!
This is a usually reliable place for a quick slider lunch.
Let me first say, I don't have ESP powers. But when I see a certain type of young workers, I know something is going to be bad. The male cashier, lots of bad ink on his arms. The female worker, sewing machine thread spools in her ears. On top of this an older Polish lady doing the grill work. Asked for my sliders to be made with extra pickles, but when I heard her question something I knew it was wrong. The young girl served a soda cup with soda all the sides and the napkins came pre-soiled, yum. Sliders were made without the extra pickles and the meat was broken into several pieces. The only good thing about this place is that it is one of the older style White Castles, which I love.

Lynethe Deli & Pierogies

1116 119th St
Whiting, 46394
Reviews:
This place may well be the most spartan restaurant I've ever been in. There were 4 tables. They sell pierogies for $0.65 each. I tried a couple each of the potato and sweet cheese, potato and cheddar, and sauerkraut with mushroom. It took about 10 minutes for the order to be prepared. They were ok, but I really have no frame of reference on pierogi goodness. They don't offer tap water here. If you want water, it has to be bottled water.
The food was all VERY bland, and tasteless. It reminded me of hospital food. I was really hoping they'd have good pierogies, but they too were quite bland, not to mention rather expensive for how small they were. The inside of this restaurant DESPERATELY needs a makeover too, and it's quite an unappetizing sight to behold. The people seemed quite nice, but unfortunately, that's simply not enough to get me to come back.
Stopped here on a whim looking for pierogi's in Whiting and we were not disappointed! Jesus was gracious and welcoming, starting us off with a delicious free sample of galumpkis (cabbage rolls) and dumplings. We then ordered an assortment of pierogi's and they were the best we have ever eaten! They were cooked to order, fresh and delicious! Crispy on the outside with delicious fillings! We had potato & cheddar, sweet cheese, plum, mushroom, and spinach! OMG - good! Jesus came to this country and learned to cook Polish food like he was born in Poland. My only regret is that we didn't buy more to bring home. Do not be put off by the humble seating area. The place is clean and comfortable and all about the food - not ambience. If you are ever anywhere near Whiting stop in and have Jesus make you some pierogi's! Your tummy will be happy!

Dusty's is a hidden gem. I love restaurants that you're a little unsure driving by if you should go in, but when you sit down you know you are in the right place. First thing to remember, it's a bar (w/ good food). No credit cards. I've never looked to at a menu (I'm not even sure there is a menu???) I've only looked at the "specials" on the table. . . .Walleye, Lake Perch, Frog Legs, etc. The fish is served with "appetizers". . .rolls, cottage cheese, beets, coleslaw, kidney bean salad. Those who grew up going to Phil Smidt's or Teibels will know the style. . . .it's a bar fare version of Phil's. My favorite is the Lake Perch w/ drawn butter. It's reasonably priced and friendly service. I'm pretty sure every time we've been there it's the same people working and eating/drinking. Get there early on a Friday because the local Firemen always eat up all the specials early . . we are talking 6pm or earlier!!!

Food is good. The place is clean. The staff is entertaining. Here is who you'll find there: Skinny man, just released from jail, quality jail tattoos. Average man, rat tail, more fun tattoos. Older woman, got some meat on her, mustache and five o'clock shadow. 30 something man, over 6ft tall, barely talks to me, mumbles a lot. Younger girl, bubbly, talks a lot. Younger girls mom, same thing. And that's all I've met. They're all super nice and have a good time. It's close to our house, so I swing in after work. they're always really fast. Don't be surprised if every time you go you see two Whiting or Hammond cops sitting in the right corner.

I've been here about 6 times in the last 2 years after many years of just passing by. Their hours are few, and I wish they were longer. Their food isn't incredibly unique, but it is hard to find similar good food for miles. The $5 mojito I had was way better than some $20 Chicago mojitos! Delicious crab cakes. Great desserts and fish tacos with potatoes (special). The service is good and quick, and the chef comes out to check on people often. Very nice. Why didn't I discover this place sooner?
Everything is just great! Cocktails, appetizers, sandwiches, dinner, dessert and the service. Have tried about half the menu and cannot wait to go through the rest. My favorite so far is any of the seafood fare. The owner/chef usually comes out to ask how everything is. You can't go wrong no matter what you order. There is always a drink and dinner special. The only negative is it is only open Wednesday thru Saturday.
I stop there during every Whiting Cruise Night... This place ROCKS ! The food is always a 19 on a scale of 1 to 10, and the customer service is great !

Capri’s Pizza and Broasted Chicken

1722 Calumet Ave
Whiting, 46394
Reviews:
We just had a bad experience with Capri's, after we waited a year to order after another bad experience! Had to Yelp it this time. We ordered two pizzas, fried vegetables, bosco sticks, and fried shrimp. Order was placed at 6:30, arrived at 7:30. One of the pizzas was made wrong. It was supposed to be sausage and onion with mushrooms added to one half and pepperoni added to the other half. The order taker put it down as half mushroom and then a quarter of that half with pepperoni. Not too complicated: each side was to have three toppings. So at 7:35 we called, got a manager who apologized for a trainee's error, got the order straight, and offered to exchange the pizza. Forty minutes later, now two hours after the original order was placed, we swap pizzas. The delivery guy apologizes and tells us they lost most of their staff to a violent bar fight and the new people can't handle the job yet. Wow, that makes me feel uneasy. Didn't need to know why there was turnover in the kitchen. So he leaves, and we open the replacement pizza. The ticket is written correctly this time, but the pizza is screwed up AGAIN!!! This time, both extra ingredients were added to the same side. It was not made as the order ticket was written!!! AAUUGGGHH!!! So we call and ask for a manager to let them know after two tries it is still wrong. We don't want to wait for a replacement. The woman is so sorry. Just sorry. Even after explaining we are trying Capri's for the first time in a year because of a past screw-up, still just sorry. We should have received a refund for the screwed up pizza. Didn't get one. Ten minutes later she calls and offers us 20% off our next order! Do you really think there's going to be another order? NOT A CHANCE. The food is average at best to begin with. We won't bet on them to get our order right ever again.
They are DELICIOUS, reasonable, and have AMAZING customer service. I've been a loyal customer for YEARS. My husband and daughter prefer no other pizza We've also catered from them several times before and their catered food is also DELICIOUS and well priced. Me and my guest are always satisfied!
Ok i have mixed feelings in writing this review. Living in the area and growing up with Capri's its always been the go to pizza spot but lately they have been seriously screwing up! Ordered a mushroom/pep large pizza for delivery 1hr and 30mins later our pizza arrives and its cold! I feel like over the years this place has gone downhill. They need to upgrade their delivery time and customer service skills. Who wants to eat a cold pizza?! Beside that flavor and freshness is always on point. Pick up is about 20-30mins but If you order for deliver, expect over an hour!

Went here for lunch recently....good place, limited menu. Service was a bit slow but the mushroom swiss burger I had was pretty good along with the vegetable soup. Will be trying this place again perhaps for breakfast.
Food was very mediocre. Service was good. Decorations were eclectic.
Great addition to downtown! Great daily specials on top of a good menu. Tried their stuffed cabbage casserole- been craving it ever since. Soups were excellent and place was super clean! This lady will be back!
