I'm glad they opened a place like this in Whiting, but I can only give 2 stars because the food was just fair, and the service was terrible. Went in about 7:30 on a Friday night, the place had a couple of large parties going on but there were a few empty tables. My husband and I sat and watched the 2 waitresses scurry back and forth, obviously they were very busy. However, I made eye contact with one of them 3 times and each time she turned away without saying, "someone will be with you shortly," or "please be patient" or anything. Finally we had to go get someone to ask if we can have a drink. After about a half hour, I finally ordered fish and chips which was an $11 entree. I had no idea there was a $4 special that night, and I got about 4 SMALL nuggets of heavily battered fish. It would have been nice to have been asked whether I wanted the entree or the special. We were never offered another drink which surprised me since it is a bar/restaurant, or even dessert. I might go back just because it's convenient for a drink, but I'm certainly in no hurry.

Nice enough brewery. We just imbibed here during a break from the Pierogi Festival. The bar is cute, the patio nice, the servers friendly, the local beer OK.

Wow, I know we all went to the same brewery, but I didn't have any of these problems? There were six of us and all my friends are micro-brewery types and they loved it. I liked the Roby Red and they had the Dragons Milk and loved it. Our waitress told us all about the beers and then one of the owners wandered by, spoke to us about a new brew and even gave us a sample...Plus, we had ordered a few sampler's of the beers and the food was delicious. Calamari is excellent, so is the Pizza. Good salads and they have all kinds of sandwiches and half orders. So I guess I'm a bit confused on the other reviews. I would suggest you give it one more try...

Great local place. Nowadays, there are breweries popping up everywhere; however, it takes a place that does more than just make decent beer to pull in a foodie like myself. The food was really good and the drinks were good, too. I read people saying avoid the fried pickles, but I really liked them. Also, the beer was not bad at all. I may not be a beef aficionado, but their light beer was good. Go out and try a good place in the region!

Love this place the drinks are good and the food is good. Can't beat live music. And whiskey Wednesday.

Had lunch here the other day. The IPA beers I tried we very good. I had the Mac and Cheese with bacon and scallions. It was delicious. My dad had the fish and chips. He said it was excellent. The homemade fries went perfectly. They even had malt vinegar for the fish. I believe our server was Robbie. He was one of the best servers I've ever seen -Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable.

Sooooo its strike 3...we seat our selves at the only available table which was dirty and we waited over 25 minutes for someone to realize we were sitting there. Actually I had to flag a waitress down as for some reason noone seemed to notice us, not even the waitress who was actually working out section. I fail to see how this place stays in business...definitely our last trip here........

The beers and food are pretty good. Some of the seasonal beer has been good and not so good. Most of the time Rob is a one man show--bartender and waiter. Works hard at trying to provide a good level of service. Always interesting to see the owners in and not doing much but eating and drinking. They'll step in occasionally, but should more often, in my opinion. We frequent the establishment because Rob does take care of us. Seems to know the beers enough to get by, but would be beneficial to have a higher level of knowledge.

I like the veggie sandwich I have had here. I came when they first opened and was not impressed but again I did like the veggie sandwich. They have guest brews which is nice because I don't care for their beer that much but our friends wanted to come here today. Today I have a chicken caesar salad and it is ok. The croutons are kinda crummy though. My husband loves the fried pickles and I tried one and it was good. My friend likes the nice pretzel bun but then bit in and found the bun to be hard and a bit pretentious. My husband liked having the Roby Red beer with the pickles.

Service kinda stinks. I arrived with three other people and we waited about 20 minutes to get our first drinks. The on tap variety of Beers are expensive and gave me the bubble guts. Habanero shrimp appetizer is very good. Check it out for yourself and see what you think.

Bulldog's homebrews are not good, but they bring in great beers from other craft breweries. Food is pretty bad, except the fried pickles. Service is always good. Atmophere is ok.

Went to Bulldog yesterday and it is now on our list of favorite breweries in NWI. The bar is fully stocked with liquors, wines, and full line of Bulldog beers. Rob was our bartender and was very knowledgable about the beers as well as many mixed drinks. We had a basket of fish and chips and it was fantastic. The fish was lightly breaded and the fries seemed to be homemade. The overall bar is great and a neat experience. Highly recommend!

The beer is not very good at all. I visited during Perogi Festival, so the place was packed. I asked for the house recommendation. My friends and I agreed that it was undrinkable. Because of the crowding, the only place to set the unfinished beers was back on the counter, which made for an awkward exchange with the bartender. I didn't intend to insult them, as it is their place and a ton of other people seemed to like it or not care or not know any better, but I think I did.

If you can get there when the have the barrel aged scottish ale, then RUN by all means. Husband digs their industrial harbor IPA. High ABV as well. Their burgers are delicious. The pulled pork topped with Gouda is awesome. Potato skins are a meal in themselves. The pita pizzas or whatever they are on are good as well. The chips with various salsas are lame and bland (I mean really sad) and the fried veggie platter/onion rings I find a bit limp and greasy like the fryer is not hot enough (ordered them more than once so no fluke) BUT THOSE ARE NO REASON TO SKIP IT. Thumbs up on beers and most food.

Had to stop in to see Jillian. Beer battered shrimp is wonderful and Nina had pulled pork which was great too. We will return. Trish the hostess/waitress/busboy is incredible too.

I came back with a group and had food this time. I can go with 3.5 stars. I had the bleu cheese burger, and it was decent, thought the pretzel bun was a bit hard. Most were happy with their selections. The service was also a bit slow, but we did have a large group of 14. Can't complain about the craft brew selection though, which is quite nice.

Most unaytentive bartender. We quickly ordered drinks and went to buffalo wild wings. If the service is that bad I can imagine the food. 06/29/2014 what a joke!!

My friends and I were looking for a fun Labor Day adventure involving bikes. We rode from Chicago to Bulldog and were thrilled with our decision. Our waiter, Rob, gave us good insights into the beers and also let us sample a few before making our decisions. I had the hefeweizen (great summer choice!) and my friends enjoyed the IPA and lager. Burgers were half priced on Mondays, so our tab was so low compared to what we expected! The burgers were delicious - except I kind of wish they didn't say they used pretzel buns. But if that is the only downside, we win! Rob got us all separate checks, was attentive without being pushy - and other wait staff also came over to chat with us. Good burgers, good beer, great staff. We will be back!

A gem in the Midwest. Love the burgers and the wings but laterally, every item in the menu and beer list is great.

I am writing this reivew in the hopes that the owners of this place read them and make improvements. With improvements this place could be good. I have been here many times and it is only getting worse. It has come to the point where I might have a beer there, but I will no longer order food. Its just not worth it. This place would be a great candiate for that Bar Rescue show. It could be saved if anyone there actually gave a darn. Good location, lousy service lousy food, good beer. 1. The beer is good, it really is. However the servers should be trained to KNOW something about the beers, what is the type, what does it pair with, having the server have to run to the bar to ask questions constantly is not doing anyone any favors. And no, this didn't happen once. I think they must interview servers and hire those who don't even drink beer. Learn what is on the board, there aren't that many to learn. Have a cheat sheet, have someone who KNOWS beer write up a cheat sheet and put it on the table for you. Put it on the menu. 2. Kitchen: needs SERIOUS help. The food takes forever, I mean serioiusly, 40 minutes for dried out hamburgers? Food comes out cold, and tastes like the cafeteria lunch line. (frozen veggies warmed up-really sad) Either have a menu your cook is confident with, or change the menu. I have been in there when its busy, I have been there when I am at the only table eating food, the wait time each time was 40 minutes. What gives? How about a signature dish (pick anything you can consistently make Its a cute place, nice location, clean bathrooms but this place cannot make it when they don't care about the food, and its clear they don't .

This place is convenient to go to since it close to my work. That is almost the best thing it has going for them right now. The service is generally really slow, and the servers and bartenders seem like they'd rather be somewhere else. The beer is still a work in progress for my taste. The decor and ambience in this bar is great, but they really need to beef up the service. they were also out of their home brew that I wanted on this last visit, so I was a bit disappointed. They do have other good beers on tap and of course a large selection of liquor. I will continue to go here, but I'd like to see some minor improvements.

Not good! I have been waiting for a place like this in Whiting for ever. To bad these people know nothing about brewing beer or cooking. The staff is friendly but the owner is clueless. had cheese soup and lobster sliders first time there. soup was like a nacho cheese sauce with milk added. Sliders were definitely canned or bag frozen lobster. The best way to eat it was to dip it in the cheese soup. How ironic. Second time had beef sandwich. Obviously processed beef (like at Arby's) and it was let me guess dipped in beef base and water solution and baked in over until cheese is melted and bun and beef are dried out. oh yeah that's it. My girl friend had the burger on pretzel said it was ok but nothing spectacular. Also our friends with us left behind a table full of poorly prepared fried apps. Now the beer here well I have to say... Let it finish brewing before you serve it. Still has yeasty undertones. However I must admit I am not a big of most brew pubs because it is a specialty craft and so few get it right. Hire a real chef Bulldog and you should bounce back nicely. Before you have to change the name to escape your bad reputation for lousy food. Good Luck!

I made sure I visited a few times before writing this review. My first experience was not that good. The waitress wasn't very knowledgeable about the beer selection and seemed more interested in sitting back down with her friend than helping me get a second beer. I took home a growler of Industrial Harbor IPA that night. My wife and I after two glasses got very sick. I thought maybe the container was contaminated so I let the waitress know the next time I visited that we both had symptoms of food poisoning from the growler. I would have thought she would have apologized or something, or maybe even told her manager. Instead she said "That's weird". Not a Fan of that waitress, don't know her name but she did nothing to make me want to return again. I kept debating on whether to go back or not. I liked the idea of having a local brewery so close to where I work but I didn't want to deal with rude people or contaminated beer. I decided to give them another try and brought home a Pale Ale growler. Very smooth didn't get sick. The waitress I had that day was much more knowledgeable and had a general love for beer making. She temporarily changed my mind on this venue and I considered myself a fan until recently. This now brings up the reason I am never going back. I went in last weekend and had a growler refilled. The guy didn't sanitize it which I thought you were supposed to do. I figured it is probably ok because I had rinsed it with warm water after using it last. After drinking this I got food poisoning. Just like I had mentioned above where my wife got sick, here I am on day 3 of being sick and one day of missed work. Violent vomiting and I'm sure you know the rest. No thank you to this place. I still can't figure out if it's the beer or the growler making us sick but I don't need this type of thing to happen ever again.

I have been here a few times to eat and have been very satisfied each time. The blue cheeseburger on a pretzel bun is awesome. The lobster sliders were good as was the fish. Love the location and the decor. Staff have always been attentive. No complaints.

It's a shame that the owners didn't take this opening more seriously. Those familiar with Whiting know there aren't many options like a potential quality brewery. I have been here 4 times now, just because I'm really trying to like it but it's not working. I can't use the word awful for service because it's not "awful"...it's just there. The servers don't engage at all and don't know the product which is a necessity in a brewery. Why wouldn't they be trained to know the beer?! The food is nothing special, but most of what I've had I feel like I can make myself. The pizza is pretty good though, as it's made on naan. Most importantly, the beer is just ok, nothing fantastic. Lots of guest beers but I've yet to try something that I'm impressed with. The best word to describe this place is disappointing. I think it had high hopes by locals but it needs a complete re training for all staff, who I have heard complain about the owners each time I've been there. It also needs an updated menu with more interesting food. It obviously needs help with the beer. It has potential but needs a lot of work. Best part about it though is the non smoking policy, kudos for that. Hopefully the owners get enough feedback and make the changes needed to succeed.

***Yelp has filtered EVERY review thus far for Bulldog Brewery! What gives?!!!*** Bulldog Brewery has been around a few months, but only recently added their own beer to their line up. I waited until they added their own product because I could easy go to another "beer bar" such as Beer Geeks in Highland, IN to sample a large selection of delicious craft beer from all over the world. I thoroughly enjoy the craft beer scene and would much rather spend my money in a locally owned business, so I really wanted to enjoy Bulldog Brewery, but it just wasn't happening. The downtown Whiting area surrounding this bar is really nice at night - standing in opposition to a lot of people's perception of the area. The bar is set up nicely, but was very cold. Most women were still wearing their coats and scarves while shivering at their respective tables. A bar was on one side of the business and tables on the other. Surprisingly, for this type of business, there were a lot of family's sitting down to dinner. On to the important stuff: the beer and the food. They had 3 of their own beers - along with other craft beers - available. A lager, IPA, and wheat. I had each of them and would say they are right in the middle in terms of appearance, aroma, and flavor. Average would be a great descriptor. Not bad, not really good, but doable. I'm a big "hop head" so to speak and their IPA was more on the malt flavor spectrum than hops, but some people would be fine with that. One very surprising aspect - for a brewery - was they served a Russian Imperial Stout "Old Rasputin" ICE COLD. Really? Every beer lover knows cold kills flavor - this is the whole reason people drink cheap adjunct grain beer (Miller Lite, Coors, etc.) ice cold, so they can't taste it! Because when beer warms up the flavor profile comes shining through, good OR bad. Old Rasputin is a very well known RIS, so why would the very people who are supposed to KNOW beer serve it so cold? On this note: our waitress had no idea what the current beer offering(s) were. She had no idea what each beer was, the style, or any opinion on the matter. I guess I was expecting an actual brewery to require their employees to actually know the products. On to the food - Ohhhhhh the poor food. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich that was just plain awful. There was no sign of any buffalo sauce, rub, or anything resembling a spice anywhere on it. A few chunks of what appeared to be cut up grilled chicken with tomatoes and cheese. It was flavorless and just plain mediocre to say the least. If I wasn't starving and drenching every bite in Ranch dressing it would have ended up in the garbage. The 3 other people I went with had similar experiences with their "meal". In summary I would really like to see a place like this succeed. A local steelworker and fireman own this business (according to their website) and I really would love to see them make it. They have to step up their game substantially if they want this place to last. I will make a return visit in about 6 months to see if time solved the major flaws. I really hope they improve so I can have another local craft beer establishment to frequent.

Not bad, food is alright. Good place to go watch a sports game & have a beer. I have not tried any of the home brews, but 2 friends have and said they were ok, but would stick with Miller.
