The major points taken off here are for terrible service that just completely ruined the meal. The food was pretty good. We had calamari and the stuffed crust pizza and we liked it but the service just ruined it. We had to chase down everything. When we received the calamari I immediately asked for lemon. By the time I received it 10 minutes later, it didnt matter, the food was gone. The iced tea was served in the worlds smallest glass, I had to chase the guy down for one refill which came when I was nearly done with my food. The server laughed at us when we asked for larger plates for our pizza slices. I guess most people dont mind eating their pizza on plates smaller than the pizza slices? Then when the guy came to clear the plates away he grabbed all of our uneaten crust off of the plates with his bare hands and threw it into a cup. It was so unappetizing and then spouted out, uh....I dont know if I know what I am doing. The part that had us most annoyed is the service wasnt bad because they were swamped, it was just a matter of the servers being lazy and inattentive. They were just buzzing around the back chattign with each other.

Just had dinner here while traveling through area. Small but nicely done dining space. Very friendly staff and quick service. Caprese very fresh, garlic cheese bread delish, and chocolate dipped cannolli was to die for!! Highly recommend this local place- seemed to be like family with the community.

Hello, FOOD SNOB here. The Italian food here, lasagna, meatballs, arancini, sauce are all genuine homemade 5 Stars. The Pizza just needs to be cooked a little more in the middle. this seems to be common for these wood burning oven pizza joints when they just open. Same thing happened when I went to Stop 50 in Mich City, and Spacca Napoli in Chicago. The first time the pizza was a little undercooked. the second time I went it was perfect. This type of pizza originated in Naples Italy, which by the way I have been to 5 times. And loved this kind of pizza. If anyone out there has not tried ARANCINI ( fried rice balls), please do try them. You will be hooked. This place has the best I have had. When you put your fork into it the melted cheese just oozes out along with the meat. Overall 41/2 stars for this one. And I will be back next time with a bottle of my own wine hopefully.

I can not say enough great things about this place! Let's start with the decor.....simply BEAUTIFUL!! Gorgeous Murals! Unique Walls! High Ceilings! BEAUTIFUL BATHROOMS THAT ARE IMMACULATE!! Now...let's talk about the FOOD! AMAZING!!! EXCELLENT ARANCINI!! Fabulous Greek Salad!! THE BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD!! I enjoyed a delicious Wood Fired Margherita Pizza that had the Best Crust I have ever tasted! Home Made Gelato in many flavors! DELICIOUS!! EXCELLENT ESPRESSO !! Very Friendly Owners with EXCELLENT TASTE IN EVERYTHING!! My family and I can't wait to go back!! Truly a wonderful place!

Being a Italian American born in Italy with roots still there, I know a thing about true Neopolitan wood fired oven pizza. I love it!!. Residing in Munster IN I've had to venture to chicago to places such as Spacca di Napoli to get my fix of this authentic Italian pizza. Happy to have discovered Giuseppes Restaurant in Schererville IN. It just opened this week. My wife, son and I enjoyed appetizers of the Arancini which to me is what comfort food is all about. The Arancini had a wonderful combination of rice, cheese, tomato sauce, meat and lovely peas all fried to perfection. The Fried Calamari was a winner as well accompanied with a delightful tomato based sauce for dipping. Yet, the Champions were the Neopolitan pizza's my wife and I ordered. She enjoyed her Margherita pizza with the fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese, basil and extra vergin olive oil, while I hit it out of the park with the Quattro Stagione pizza which had my pie divided into 4 sections each with there respective toppings (artichoke, mushrooms, sausage, and black olives). There are lots of pizza joints and even Italian restsurants in NorthWest Indiana that serve pizza, but I have to say Giusepppe's is the only one which leaves me with the feeling i'm eating in Italy. For those who prefer traditional Chicago thin crust, stuffed crust, or deep dish pizza they also have that available with the owner having previously had his previous pizzaria in Lansing IL. Seems this family restaurant is a master at making pizza. I looking forward to coming often and tryiing their various pasta dishes and artisan sandwiches on my future visits to this place. The place has pick up and dine in service. I'm not sure if they do delivery, as they did in their previous Lansing location. Dine in service is just like I like it, you seat yourself, they bring out the food to you in real china and silver wear etc, like Pompei Restaurants in Chicago. In this way aside from the already reasonable prices, I'm not having to add a tip to the ultimate cost of my dining experiance. Do yourself a favor and check out the place!!

I have been here at least five times and I get the stuffed shells every time! You cannot go wrong with this dish. In fact...it is the best I have ever had. I don't like that you don't get free refills or more bread without paying for it. AND the atmosphere could use a little work. It's cold in the winter every time the door opens. It feels more like a fast food joint verses a nice sit down Italian restaurant. BUT you can't beat the stuffed shells! They know what they are doing. I will continue to go back.

Bad experience. The first and last time I went here, I saw that they only have one size 12" pizza for a family of 5. They make larger ones.but only to go. Doesn't make sense. So I asked the manager if I could order a family size and just eat it there with my family and order other items, to bring business you know, and he was very rude about it and had a bad attitude with me. Therefore, we just walked out and went took our business elsewhere. He also made me pay for the bottle of coke that I did not drink out of nor said I wanted open. Wish I would have threw it through the window and shatter the glass.

Went here today for the first time; was disappointed to hear that they've been around for 4 years and I'm just finding them. Service was friendly and very capable. The restaurant itself is cozy with a lovely Italian ambiance, complete with classical and/or Italian music in the background. Everything from the bread - yum! - to the entree was delicious and fresh. I ordered the stuffed shells with 2 meatballs and must say I have not had a tastier meatball in a long time. It was served with a succulent yet light red sauce and loads of mozzarella cheese. It had been in the broiler just long enough to blend the flavors together. I will definitely be a return customer to explore the menu further.

Decided on checking this out after reading a Facebook list of the 11 best Italian restaurants in Indiana. I didn't agree with all the choices. I had never been here, nor did I know about it so it was time to check it out. The place is small but very cute and relaxing. It's not Americanized for sure in the sense that there are no fountain drinks. Just a heads up. Soda and other nice beverages from a bottle, there's also a nice selection of wines. Water with lemon is free of course. My hubby and I ordered a meatball sandwich because I did read that the meatballs were delish. They are! The sauce on the side was a little salty but okay because the sandwich was not so the play of flavors worked well. The bun was perfect. If you would like fries, please note it is an extra charge. No big deal they do give you a nice helping. We also ordered a pizza which seems to come in one size. It was the Neapolitan style which is cooked in a wood fired brick oven. (NOTE the other pizzas are NOT cooked in the brick oven just this style) We had the pizza with Eggplant and Mushroom. It was very delicious. I've seen complaints about the size/price. I think it is enough for 2 or one hungry person. The price isn't bad considering what you would pay for a nice meal at that price anyway. This is a gourmet pizza. A junk/cheap pizza can be purchased at a chain restaurant. (No big deal or a reason to get offended, I eat junk pizza too) For dessert we bought the gelato cheesecake which made me want to cry it was so good. I read the word Nutella on the menu and I was in!! Note... When paying for your bill if you want to add the tip you have to let them know how much before they ring you up. Just something with their system. I was told it would be fixed. I felt bad when I received the bill to sign not knowing that. Glad to know it now. The waiter was so nice I wanted to be sure to leave a good tip! My hubby and I really liked it and will definitely be back for more of that delicious pizza!!

Perhaps because they both came from the Calabria region of Italy, the aroma of "Mama's" cooking threw me back to my early years walking into my Nana's kitchen and brought a smile to my face. This charming little restaurant is a little off the beaten track, but well worth finding. Because we arrived with friends and relatives who are regulars, we were treated as family immediately, but in my experience, Italians as a whole are warm and welcoming people. Mama, a prettier, tiny, dark haired "Sophia" from Golden Girls, creates and oversees all the authentic meals. Her meatballs are to die for, but then so is her gnocchi, stuffed shells, ravioli, etc. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the dishes offered because her excellent sauce is the basis for most, and you can taste the quality of the cheeses and other ingredients used. I've been to Italy several times and go as often as I can and am probably considered a food snob by my friends, so take it from picky me, this restaurant will become a destination whenever I'm in town. I haven't mentioned the service, and it's probably because it was effortless and exemplary, and when it is, you tend to take it for granted. The atmosphere is fun and casual, the service is great, and Mama's handsome son treated us to a few shared desserts...in addition to the ones we ordered...my, my, full, but managed to fit it bites of all of them. In addition to excellent gelato, traditional cannoli and tiramisu, we tried a tasty gelato based cheesecake to die for.

I am back in town this week and had the usual meals from Giuseppe's: the penne pasta with meatballs and the margherita pizza. Both were as excellent as they were in the past. Always a good place to stop at when in town.

Very nice decor on the inside. Not a large restaurant, but it has about a dozen tables. Very cozy. Went there for lunch. Ordered the Italian beef sandwich. It was delicious. The bread was fresh. I liked the fact that they put the sauce on the side. Some places put too much sauce and it gets the bread soggy. The service was good. Did not have to wait long to get served. They have a variety of desserts. Did not have time to try them. Will do that next time.

Very good Italian food. Quaint atmosphere for lunch spot. Great to carry out some good, quality food! The meatballs are excellent. They are moist and the pasta sauce is very authentic and homemade. Yes, the fried rice balls with polenta are delicious!! A great value too~!

My wife and I had dinner here a few weeks ago (just now getting to the review). As mentioned previously, their location is a bit odd as it gives you an impression it is more of a take-out joint than a formal restaurant. We stopped in early on a week night and the restaurant was packed. This is not hard to do because it is the size of a post-office lobby. The restaurant only has one table and two chairs for guest to wait outside. We ended up waiting on the curb and eventually wandering next door to watch the kids practice karate. Maybe they can put a glass wall and entertain the guest while they wait? A saving grace is the owner came out and introduced himself, he was very polite and offered us a drink while we waited. Eventually the "waiting table" opened up and we were able to sit when our wine arrived. At first, I thought the wine may have been complementary because we decided to wait (while sitting on the curb)...Ah, nope. We finally sat at our table and were surprised to see only 1 waiter. The seating area holds about ten tables (maybe more) and roughly 50 people. Needless to say we waited another 10+ minutes before he came to our table. Our waiter was unseasoned and unapologetic for his tardiness, furthermore he knew very little about the details of the food he was selling. We decided to try the Arancini as an appetizer, okay...looks like we are back on track as it was delicious. My only complaint is that I did not order my own + maybe a bit expensive for a strip-mall joint. Now on to dinner service...our second glass of wine came in a different wine glass and was not proportioned to the first leaving us feeling somewhat cheated. Our (my) biggest gripe was that the waiter stated they could not make any chicken that the kitchen was down (he didn't elaborate). When we started to get huffy that we waited on the curb for a single deep fried meatball he said well I guess we can make one (order). So, I ordered the pizza and my wife ordered the Chicken Francese (think thick lemony chicken). The food was good (pizza okay, but the wife loved her dish). Another odd point is that they try and charge you for a second order of bread for the table. It is clearly marked on the menu...but $2.50 for 4 slices of bread? To wrap things up, probably won't be back. Odd location (no parking), HORRIBLE service, does not outweigh the one or two positive things about this place.

Bad service 1st time we went- the waitress persuaded us to tip her good because she complained about the point of sale system not calculating previous tips. Their specialty pizzas really are bland and so disappointing. We've tried two. The margherita pizza was so paper thin I wouldn't even consider it an appetizer & the crust is tasteless. The chicken Parmesan was good and so was the stuffed shells.

Giuseppe's is a hidden gem. The atmosphere is very intimate. The dining area is small, but it's not overly packed. The decor is beautiful and interesting and I can easily see this as a great place for a date night. That's not to say it's not a family friendly place though, as I went there with my husband and two kids. The menu is wide enough that you should be able to find something for anyone. Pizza, pasta, salads, sandwiches, appetizers and dessert too. When we first arrived, the dining room was full and we were going to need to wait until a table was cleared. We ordered some sodas while we waited and were promptly given cold Cokes and Sprites in glass bottles. Upon further inspection, we found they were the Mexican Cokes, which I do enjoy more than the American Coke with High Fructose Corn Syrup. (For those who might not realize it, Coke products made in Mexico uses sugar only. No HFCS.) The pizzas for the dining room are all 12" mediums. My younger son didn't want pizza so we ordered a half size plain spaghetti. My older son wanted to try their stuffed crust pepperoni and my husband likes sausage. Since the stuffed crust can take a little longer to cook, we decided to order some mozzarella sticks too. They brought out some warm sliced bread and butter and the kids went to town. The sticks were perfect and the marinara sauce was so good. Slightly sweet with little chunks of tomato. The pizza's sauce was slightly sweet too, but not overly sweet. The cheese tasted so fresh and the pepperoni and sausage had just the right amount of kick. The crust was amazing too. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. My younger son loved the spaghetti too and he wasn't about to share. It's not cheap, but the quality is worth the price. The service was excellent as well. Our server and the busser made sure to check in with us frequently and quickly got whatever we needed, be it more water, more bread or more napkins. The hostess was polite and pleasant while we waited to be seated and on our way out. Our server asked if it was our first visit and upon learning it was, made sure to get a carryout menu to us. They do have a small wine list, but we didn't indulge. Although the desserts looked fabulous, we opted out in an effort to not have to be rolled out of the door. Next time I will save a little room to share something.

If you are a fan of very well executed authentic Italian cooking using fresh home made ingredients this is the place for you! It is quaint, clean, comfortable, reasonably priced with terrific service (Anna & her son). I highly recommend the Arincini (fried rice ball ) Not easy to pull off but Giuseppe's is outstanding. The home made sauce makes you want to lick the plate. The pizza with kalamata olives and portobella did not disappoint. My only suggestion would be to use the pit less kalamata. Lovely house Pinot Grigio at a terrific price. If you are accustomed to Pizza Hut or some of the region's greasy cornmeal crusted pizza there might be a bit of a learning curve to get this kind of pizza. But, if you have ever had true neapolitan wood fire pizza please don't miss this place! The place is small and depending on the time of day may not be able to accommodate really large groups but based on the service I received, I would bet they would do their best make it work. And while the place is not on the main roads or in the clusters of random chain restaurants in the area, it is only a quick short trip to it off of HWYS 30 / 41 not is some far flung unable to locate spot. While chains serve a purpose this family owned spot should not be missed! I cannot wait for my next visit here!

My family and I went on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30 but they didn't open till 4 so they let us sit down order some pop's and check out the menu. All of the food we had was great! We started with Motz sticks which are hard to mess up and a arancini ball which was amazing and a large Greek salad! Then we split lasagna, spinach ravioli, stuffed shells and a pizza, the 1/4 pizza with pepperoni, artichokes, black olives, and something I forgot maybe could have been cooked a bit more but still great. Everyone enjoyed the red sauce, authentic Italian cooking and the little Italian lady made it even more authentic! We will definitely be going back again, much better than ciao bella and more reasonable. They said the liquor license should be coming any day which will give it 5 stars!

I'm not expert but altogether i've spent a month in Italy and Giuseppe's is as authentic as it gets! Someone on here said it was "dry and flavorless", that is probably because they were expecting american pizza and if that's the case stick to the local chain pizza places. I've tried their Chicago style thin pizza, the Neopolitan pizza and the calzone's and they have been delicious every time! The cooking time is long but that just means the food is fresh so my husband and I order ahead and by the time we get there it's ready for us. The marinara sauce is fresh and the Neopolitan Margherita pizza is light and crisp and awesome! I highly recommend this place but leave your chain pizza comparisons at home.

We had carry out pizzas the other day and I was not impressed. It was too dry and flavorless. When they get a beer/wine license, I'll return but no more carry outs.
