Stopped in on a whim at 1:15 on a Sunday and didn't get our food for an hour. The host (owner?) seemed grumpy but the waitress was very nice, fast and efficient. Salsa was pretty bland, chips were warm but too thin for my taste. Food was just ok. We were seated in the center section where the unpadded wood benches are too high for your feet to touch the floor and the wooden seat backs are rough like a cat's tongue. Not good for an hour's wait. My first and last visit.

Where do I start? Bad food or worse service? I ordered food to go for me, my sister, and our four young children. We were mixing and matching meals, no problem. Placed my order on the phone, no problems. Was told 20 minutes. I got there in 25, and saw my food sitting on the table. Being a Saturday night at 6 pm, that's good they can get it out that fast. I waited 8 minutes from the time I got in until I got acknowledged from the host (turns out it was the manager on duty). I told him I was here for pickup, and I thought the food was mine. He rudely said "I have a lot of to go orders. Which one is yours?" Well, they didn't take my name on the phone, but I can tell you what I had in it. So I told him, he looked at the receipt for 3 seconds, and rang it up. It was higher than I expected so I asked him to go through it with me. (I had accidentally said an item when ordering, and thought they charged me for it). He again, rudely said "it's right there". I explained I could not read their shorthand for each item and could he explain. He again, rudely said "ok hunni give me a minute" and explains. The last item was more than I thought and questioned it. Again, he rudely said "give me a minute hunni". Hunni doesn't sound rude, but I assure you, he was being an a**. He shows me on the menu, I say ok and pay. He looks up at my after I paid and says "it's over there". You're kidding me right?? As I was leaving, I asked a server if that was a manager. He said yes. I told him what happened, he did not look surprised at all, and apologized about it. He was very sincere, but you can tell this was not the first time he's heard that about the manager. I get home, knowing I was going to give a poor review on service, but hoped I could say at least the food was good. Nope. As others have stated, incredibly bland. I also could not distinguish the difference between my enchilada and burrito. Seeing as how that's 2 very different foods, it shouldn't have been an issue. If I could give this place a 0 or 1/2 star, I would. The ONLY positive about this place is their decent prices. Hard to beat for the portions.

Nothing like a quick Mexican lunch. There are several in the Plainfield area. Although the food is as good as most of the several places available, the service can be a bit slow. One thing that will set you apart if the kitchen is backed up - is to make sure my drink is full and to continue to check on me (or my group). Service is key to setting different places apart when trying to serve the same dish with the same authentic flavor. If the service would improve, I think my average rating for them could as well.

We will return to this Mexican restaurant because we feel that the quality is good and the manager plays an active part in the business. He wants to make things right and checks with everyone throughout their dining experience. We give it an A+ for Mexican although we still prefer the chips and salsa at Chili's restaurant.

Some of the best fajitas I've had. Salsa is amazing! My fiancé and I ordered the fajita for two and had plenty left over. Entire staff is helpful in making your experience top notch, as soon as you get close to running out of ANYTHING, someone from their staff is right there to assist you. Great atmosphere, great food and great customer service!

We were really excited for a new Mexican place to open up closer to our house. It seemed like this place had been in the works for ages. We've been here probably 10 times since it opened and each time we go back it seems to be busier and busier which is good and bad. It's good because the food is great. Nothing too far from your typical Mexican fair but it just tastes fresher than El Meson (which was our favourite for a long long time but it's since gone down hill in quality) and El Jaripeo. The margaritas are very tasty, especially the peach and banana. I'm kind of a picky eater and usually get the same thing but here I've tried something different each time and it's always been good. They have great specials too. It's bad for them because it seems like the service has been a bit worse recently. There's one fellow who seems to usually be the host/register attendant and he's never friendly, always has a sour look on his face. While they will call you "mi amigo" it's become a bit impersonal. I don't know if they've just been understaffed or what but it's off-putting. They have several TV's, usually playing sports. The sound is only on one of them though (and that's fine by me. I hate when restaurants have tvs), but it can get loud when it's busy. Still, the food is good enough to keep us coming back for now. Hopefully the service picks up again.

The margarita's here are so good. Had Enchiladas the first time and fajita second time. Both were good. Soft Tortilla are very good as they are not too soft but have a roasted touch to it. Went to this place for dinner on Sun and Mon, both times it wasn't even 50% occupied. First day service was good. They have serious miscommunication or coordination going on there. The other day we happen to get a tempered, rude waiter(the clean shaves guy). He comes and tries to take order for drinks however seems blank and showed as if he doesn't speak/understand english...asked us to give 1 min and left. Then another nice waiter (goatee bearded guy) who served us a day before came and took our orders. Now, the rude guy came back with brings 2 marg's which we asked him but not ordered. When we tell him that the other waiter (bearded guy) already took order while you left because we thought you cant speak english. He got pissed and tried to argue"but I'm your waiter..." Took the drinks and got back with right ones. Instead of normally placing the pitcher on table he makes efforts to bang pitcher and glasses. We were skeptical to to drink that and we just hoped that guy didn't add any crap thing to our drinks. He kept that behavior until the end. We saw him being nice to only the person (not all on table) who asks for check or is paying bill...he goes pats their back and if everything was okay. He did the same on our table. He thinks people are stupid to give him the tip. Fair price: 80$ for 3 people ~ 3 fajita's n 1 marg pitcher

I had such high hopes after the other reviews. The service is THE WORST!! We waited 30 min for refills on drinks, 30 min for refills on chips. Seriously?? The food was average at best. Definitely will NOT be back. Would not recommend unless you have 2 hours to waste on mediocre food.

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I don't even want to go anywhere else. The food is great and the portions are big. They are very accommodating to children and even the fries for the kids are great, mom and dad always steal some. I've had the stuffed Poblano peppers, nachos, Quesadilla's and the list goes on and on. I've never had a bad experience.

We have given El Cerrito a couple of chances now! Unfortunately there(his) service is awful!! Too bad because when you finally get your order it is above average Mexican food. But there is no organization and never enough servers!! We had to get our own menus ask for silverware and practically get our own drinks! Sorry he does not want to hire or maybe no one wants to work here. The owner better get with it or this place will not last! Too bad because food is better than EL Meson!

HOLY QUESADILLA BATMAN ! Me and some friends went here for lunch. We were immediatly seated and chips and salsa were put on the table pretty quick. Our drink orders were taken and brought quickly. Our meal orders were taken then and the food was brought out after a short wait. I didn't care for the seats, they sit straight up, but I'm kind of a sloucher anyway, lol. I had beef taco's with beans and rice, they were very hot and cheesy and the beans had a nice consistancy to them, not too thick. I had to take a picture of my bosses quesadilla though, it's rediculous, but good.

First trip here. Not wildly impressed. This was a Sunday evening and not many people in the place. The Senior seating us immediately asked for our drink order. We said we needed to look at the menu a bit. That was nearly the last we saw of him. So 20 minutes later we finally flagged Senior down again as no one else seemed interested. Margaritas order. They were good. Ordered food. It came out just fine, but about on par with every other Mexican place in Plainfield. All in all, El Cerrito was Ok, but nothing to write home about. I think El Meson has them beat. Like the other reviews suggest, service here is in need of attention.

Awesome place owned by the former manager of El Jaripeo. I loved El Jaripeo but it went waaay downhill after he left. I was really excited to try this place and it didn't disappoint! The food was so fresh! Shrimp at Mexican restaurants are usually overcooked. Not here! My shrimp burrito was perfection! Decor is pretty bad. The tables are hideous... But if the food is good who cares?

I've been to all the Mexican restaurants in Plainfield and this is my all time favorite. If you leave here hungry, you didn't order the right plate! Haven't been able to eat every thing yet. And the price, 2 can dine with soft drinks for under $20. Have left all others and will only go here from this point forward.

Our favorite Mexican place in Plainfield (there are 3 others). Friendly service and very good typical Mexican-American dishes. Have had some "iffy" services there but by-and-large I recommend it above all others to anyone looking for Mexican food in the area.

Pretty good Mexican food - It hasn't been open long but we've been here 7 times! The Margaritas are quite good as well as the Fajitas El Cerrito with Chorizo, yum! The decor is pretty good and the staff is friendly and attentive. This is a bit above the decor and food of most authentic Mexican restaurants. I will definitely come frequently with my family as long as the standard remains high for food and service. I believe the food, atmosphere, and service are top notch in this price range and it is significantly better than competitors in the area - El Mason (good, friendly, but bland food) and El Jaripeo (I had to stop going as this place is in a nose dive)

Your average Mexamerican place. Have to wonder about the reviews. Once I poured the salsa over the steak tacos, and added salt it had flavor.

Ate there while visiting a friend in Plainfield. It was outstanding and much better than the other place she had taken me to in a nearby small shopping mall. I don't recall any TVs as the one negative review said, but maybe I was paying too much attention to the food. The salsa and chips were first rate, and the food was fresh, hot and inexpensive I will definitely want to come back next time I am in town

This place is awesome! Great service with excellent food. I come here a lot for lunch because they have great specials. I need to come here for dinner to test out the margaritas. This is my new favorite Mexican place in Plainfield! I'm a big fan of the el Cerritos taco salad!

Good Food, Large Portions, Cheap Prices... Another one of your typical "authentic" Mexican restaurants.

Awesome food and the staff was outstanding. We had great conversation with the owners and what a pleasant experience. The bar area is very cozy and the décor is kind of cool. The owner did all the work himself including making the furniture. Check it out!

Tacos carnitas, Taco al Carbon, and Pollo Chipotle are a few of my favorite dishes here. Top shelf Margarita are delicious!

Stopped in on a whim because it was walking distance from Discount Tires and we had and hour and a half to kill. We were pleasantly surprised. The tortilla chips were very fresh. The salsa tasted delicious, not bland and not too spicy or overly hot. The service was friendly enough and we were brought refills of water when needed. Our food order was taken in a reasonable time. Compared to similar restaurants, I would say the food came out a bit slowly, but we weren't in a hurry so not a big deal. The taste of the food was really good and worth the wait. I would say definitely above average. We have eaten at nearly every Mexican restaurant in Plainfield and Avon and I would rank this place among the best in the taste department. We will definitely come back for dinner so we can see what the margaritas taste like. I recommend you give this place a try is you are in the area.

Service was very attentive, our glasses never got less than half without a refil. Food was good. Flautas were very good and crisp, and vegetables were fresh.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
