Didn't get enough rice to go with the meal. When I asked for some more I was told it would be another dollar. Really? Hurting for cash that bad? I'll go elsewhere next time.

Not the best place to eat in. The restaurant smells of cigarette smoke. It is a good place to bring those who are uncomfortable with flavorful experience. However, if you wouldn't label yourself as such, I would highly recommend not eating here. But they have cool craft sodas.

The best Thai in Mishawaka Green curry is amazing love the Thai eggplant , and the Nom tok is to die for once you start just can't stop eating ...

The prices (lunch combos especially) are super affordable and reasonable. I usually would get the tofu with veggies with a fried egg roll on the side and a drink. My only issue is I tell them to make my food hot and they never listen - it's never hot enough and barely mild. Not my top place in the area.

Not Thai. Little flavor. You could make better dishes. Service was lacking and one of the owners quite unprofessional. Place needs to be cleaned, and basic hygiene practiced by the staff.

  • Tim G.

The owner is always ready to help an accommodate customers. He really loves his business. Food is rly good. Price is affordable. Big portions. If your in the area stop here

We went here once. Food was okay but we decided not to come back because of other better options in the area.

AMAZING best Chinese food my family had found since we left the west coast. Prices are more than fair. Staff is great. Seating is not great so take out is best. Always appears very clean when we are there wich is a huge plus.

Tough place to review because the General's chicken is so good I never order anything else! It's the best Jerry, the best. Where else can you get a nice portion of General's chicken, 4 awesome chicken wings (and I mean some of the best wings I've ever had) and rice for less than $8. Highly recommended!!!

  • George O.

I mean, I don't get why people are so excited about this place. It's cheap-ish, but the General Tso's chicken wasn't even really breaded and fried, the fried rice was kinda bland, the soup was ok but rather dumbed down, and the panang curry? My farts are hotter than that. Also, takes a shockingly long time to get for Chinese takeout (granted, I'm used to something like 7 minutes to get the order out, but...it's Chinese takeout). There are significantly better options for real chinese food. And americanized chinese food, since all the authentic places around here know how to do that, too.

I kept meaning to create a listing for Taste of Asia, too, so thanks for taking the initiative and welcome to Yelp! Here's my review...two months late. Chinese/Asian restaurants aren't all the same. Sure, many of them provide similar food prepared in similar ways for similar prices, but occasionally a restaurant distances itself from the rest. Taste of Asia does so in the following ways: 1. Flavor - they lean on Thai influence with some dishes, which definitely adds fuller flavor and a bit more flexibility for curious and/or vegetarian diners. 2. Health - As the owner explained to me, yes, they CAN prepare greasy sugary Chinese food (standard norm at most joints) if requested, but they try hard to offer plenty of healthier choices and preparation techniques. 3. Little Extras - exotic sodas and rich desserts abound in the cooler. Even if you absolutely won't eat anything interesting for your main course, drop by to grab some tiramasu or bananas foster and a tasty beverage. If you dig Chinese/Asian food but want to get past the usual; if you're looking for a nice selection of vegetarian dishes; or if you want to give your tastebuds a little more flavor than they usually receive -- try Taste of Asia.

The food is ok, not authentic and not too plain. More like a Panda Express than a full-on Asian restaurant. Owner/waiters were nice. They can make anything you want spicy or not, which is good. It is a good value for the amount of food you get. We had the Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken, and Kung Pao Chicken.

I went in for the first time last week, and I'm hooked. The owner clearly has a passion for the food. When I told him I was allergic to shellfish, he took me seriously, and helped me come up with a meal that would be 100% safe. He warned me about the fact that they use the same fryer for shellfish as they do for tofu and veggies (sad!) and that's something a lot of places treat carelessly. He even went back into the kitchen to be sure that everyone knew that I had a serious allergy. I had a great dish and will definitely be back.

After hearing about the taste of asia for many years I decided to give it a try. I am very particular about my Chinese food and have pretty much stuck with a couple places I usually enjoy. I was not disappointed at all. The Lomein was amazing, probably the best in town (by far) I also had the black pepper chicken which was also among the best I've ever had. Everything was reasonably priced, and the owners were very helpful. The only reason I didn't give this review 5 stars is because I was told to come back in about 15 minutes, and it took nearly 30, but it was worth the wait. I hope everyone gives it a shot.

The three stars are for their Thai dishes. I like their green curry and the Pad Thai is decent. The Singapore Mai-fun is almost always very good. Most chinese dishes are blah and the combo meal (very cheap, very huge portions) is tasteless. That said, the owner and staff are very helpful and are willing to alter dishes to suit you. They also give an ND student discount.

Very good food, large potions. Only con is that there is little room and sometimes if it's packed with smelly people that smell... But not very often ;)

Nice carry out place. The owner and his team are always very nice, and the prices are pretty fair with a good food quality. Good address if you want to grab and go.

Jim, Prow, and Stacy were entertaining to meet and fun to chat with. The food was awesome. We tried tge pad thai, massaman curry, and pork fried rice. - all great. The perfect stop for food while we were staying in town on our cross country trip from Utah to Maine. Thanks!

The wonderful family that runs this restaurant truly care about the wonderful food that they make. Great portions at a good cost. Wonderful general tsos

We chose this place based on the top couple reviews. After we got there, we almost left, judging by the appearance we thought it would be one of those nasty Chinese dumps. I'm so glad we decided to stay. We had Mussamun Curry, Pad See Ew and pan fried dumplings. Of course the spice level was Midwestern, but the food was high quality. You could tell that the owner really has a love for Thai food. I have never had such great Thai outside of a major city. It was really better than plenty of thai we have had in San Francisco or Portland, for that matter. It is definitly better than any Thai we've had in Kansas City. They have a huge menu, so I could imagine that some things might not appeal to everyone, but man, we are so glad we ate here! If we lived in this town it would be our favorite.

Good food, and super friendly service! I'm new in town so the owner chatted with me about the area, he was super nice! The dumplings were AMAZING. The orange chicken was really good too! Definitely looking forward to trying some other things on the menu

All right, I felt that I needed to come here and update my review after returning to Taste of Asia several times and trying their Thai dishes, which are actually quite good. The service there is also always great!

  • Jessica B.

I LOVE the Thai food here, but the Chinese isn't as good. It's good, but not great. I will say that I'm not as big of a fan of Chinese food in general, so I may be biased. However, Taste of Asia's curries are amazing and I always get two orders of spring rolls. I also think the rice isn't good, but Asian restaurants in America never really have good rice. I'm a rice snob, though, after having lived in Japan for four years!

My favorite place for Chinese! For 6.99 you get a side, entree, drink and an egg roll! Discount if you're a student. The food is delicious & always comes out fast, fresh & steaming hot! The general Tso chicken is my favorite.

This place never ceases to put a smile on my face. The owner is INCREDIBLE. He blows me away at his kindness! Always busy, yet always willing and ready to genuinely help and make his customers happy!! They are so friendly around here, and very careful of anyone with food allergies. They have a TV you can find in and watch whatever Netflix movie they've got on, and a huge menu filled with delicious options of Chinese and thai. Did I mention HUGE portions!? I really love this little sweet spot, and it's affordable too:))

Super friendly service. Lots of options for this pescatarian gal , who just moved from California and misses all her favorite Thai restaurants

FINALLY!!! A HAVEN IN THE MIDWEST! This is one of my favorite Thai places, hands down! Coming from the West Coast with a Southern California-Asian-Veggie palette, no other Thai place has satisfied like this place. First of all the price was very reasonable and the quality of the food is up to CA standard and tastes quite authentic. The generous portions are far better than other Thai places that we've tried. My wife and I are vegetarian, but this place does a superb job of catering to our preferences and offering alternatives. I love the noodles and the green curry! The service was good and the people were very friendly. Coming here was like a taste of home. Will be coming regularly! Wish they were more vegan friendly...limits options.

My go-to place for Chinese takeout. I've only eaten in once--it's not the nicest place, but certainly clean enough. They have a fair bit of variety (including Thai food--but why would you anywhere but Cambodian Thai for that kind of thing?), but I stick to the American-style Chinese classics. And Taste of Asia pretty much nails the "Chinese take out" genre--it's exactly what you expect, and that's why it's so great.

Ordered take-out last night. FABULOUS. The service was first-rate and the food outstanding. We ordered the red curry and yellow curry with a "hot" spice level. Woo boy did that make us sweat lava! We will definitely be back.

For what it is -- cheap Chinese and Thai -- it is very good. Much better than Cambodian Thai. Very large menu filled with dishes both familiar and unfamiliar. Yes, it's just a hole in a stripmall on N. Main St. Mishawaka. Don't be deceived. The place was actually somewhat cool on the inside. The dude who owns it seems to have a serious affection for Thailand. What sets this place apart is the fact that the food is less greasy and seems to have more fresh vegetables. Any time a place puts more "love" into their food, I will show them love in return.

Very good Chinese food place! The first time I went there out of curiosity as I was driving around hungry, and it turned to be very good. After that I've returned whenever I want some Chinese food. They have a fast service while still serving quality and fresh food. I was especially surprised by the steam rice, which is very flavorful and not bland at all. Highly recommend it!

Boy, I wish this place did delivery: I'd order once or twice a week! I haven't actually ordered much at all from their Chinese-American items (General Tso Chicken, Mongolian Beef, etc.), but I've ordered lots from their Thai and other menus. Thai green curry is often on the menu and delicious, although just a touch sweeter than I like sometimes (just a bit). Panang curry is also a winner. I tried Massaman curry and was not crazy about it, but that might actually be about the dish itself, which is milder and influenced by Burmese, Lao and Bangladeshi spicing, like turmeric. I certainly could not fault the restaurant's execution. Some favorites here are the orders that use the wide ho-fun (or he-fen) noodles, like drunken chicken, or (if you specify that noodle) the Singapore stir fry. Have never had less less than terrific food from their Thai/Viet/Lao menu items. Ask specifically for dishes with those ho-fun noodles. Also, they make many Thai "off-menu" items like Nam Tok and Larb (dishes that let you choose your protein to mix with veggies and spices and lettuce). Fabulous! About heat: they'll make any heat level you like, truly, but I have noticed that they are sometimes insanely busy, and once or twice I have ended up with the generic mild heat when I'd asked for a bit more. If heat matters a lot to you, be on the lookout. The only competition I know around here for this place is Cambodian Thai downtown, also a great place, but just not so close to me. And they also don't deliver!

Came in here with my Mom on Friday night looking for some quick Chinese takeout. I had pretty high expectations because I remembered the good reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately we didn't even get the chance to order the food because the entire restaurant reeked of cigarette smoke. My mother has allergies and we had to beat a hasty retreat. The restaurant also seemed cramped and wasn't nearly as pleasant as the exterior suggests. I'm not sure what was going on, but the atmosphere certainly didn't give me any confidence in the food. I'm willing to give it another chance based on the reviews, but certainly will be going for takeout, because it doesn't seem like a place I'd like to sit and eat.

Great food, good prices, adequate servings. Their Thai Iced tea is from the bottle, which I think is where most restaurant get theirs...or not. But you get a variety of dishes. From Chinese to Thai. Perfect place for Oriental food craving!

Best Egg drop soup ever!!!! Everything else I have had is also very good. Wait is about 20 mins but well worth it. Lots of food for a good price.

Taste of Asia is a great restaurant with delicious Chinese as well as Thai dishes. I highly recommend the Thai specials, especially the rice noodles. The Beef curry with potatoes is delicious and flavorful without being spicy. You can ask the spice to be adjusted to your liking either with sambal (red chili paste) or Thai chilies which are spicer but add a lot of flavor to the dishes. The service is excellent and the owner is a nice guy with great hosting skills. I go there 3-4 times a week since they opened and have yet to be disppointed. Try the desserts!

Taste of Asia, I've driven by here many times, but thanks to the rather unassuming front, I've never given it more than a passing thought. Wow, how wrong I've been. Taste of Asia has that "big city deli" feel about it; with more table space than isle space. But things being what they are, this is half the charm. Taste of Asia can accommodate the gang after a concert while also allowing for a first date to sit side by side in the corner booth. There was such a nice, inviting atmosphere, you couldn't help but be drawn in. With a huge selection of various dishes and food, the menu is sure to accommodate everyone. That said, I highly recommend enjoying what I believe was the absolute best pork egg roll I've ever had. It was light and fresh; vibrant with flavor... the only down side was I didn't order two. The staff was great, friendly and made you feel welcome from the moment you walked in. While maybe not the easiest place to take a young child (it's probably too small a space to have to maneuverer like you do with young children; I'd most certainly go back again and again. For these here parts (meaning way over saturated with Asian food), I can't think of a finner option when it comes to wonderful Asian food.

Taste of Asia is my favorite restaurant in the South Bend area. If you love Chinese buffets, this is probably not the place for you. However, its Chinese food is great - not greasy at all or too salty. The combo meals are inexpensive. I highly recommend the crab rangoon. The Thai is fantastic; the panang curry is amazing and could feed two to three people. The owner is a Thai woman; she married an American and the family works there. When we started going here a few years ago, it was always quiet; now, it's busy all the time. I can't say enough good stuff about this place.

This place was surprisingly good, having moved from the east coast to the mid west, I was made unpleasantly aware of the shortage of good Asian cuisine in the mid-states. But T.o.A. was a breath of fresh air, I had the Pad Thai and my hubby had General Tso's(I think, some sort of glazed chickeny thing), both of which were pretty good, HUGE portions and fairly priced. The food came really quick too, which was surprising cause they seemed fairly busy, I will definitely go there again.

This is hands-down our favorite Asian restaurant in South Bend. At first glance, it may look like one of the many Chinese restaurants you come across in any Midwestern town, but at first bite it's clear this place stands apart! The food always tastes fresh, richly flavored and delightful. No heavy, oily sauces and no limp vegetables. The flavors are always perfectly balanced (though you can adjust the spiciness on a scale of 10 by request) and they make the absolute BEST fried dumplings (potstickers) I've ever had. The dough is clearly made by hand, rather than the ubiquitous pre-made wonton wrappers you find elsewhere. I could eat the Singapore Mai Fun every day and be the happiest woman alive. Bottom line: the prices are great, staff is helpful and friendly, and I've never tasted anything here that wasn't excellent. I can't give a higher recommendation - we get takeout from here at least every 2 weeks, but usually more often than that because we just can't get enough!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
