Freaking awesomeness! Salmon sliders...delish! I also had the veggie flatbread and it was just ok. But the salmon sliders....Ummmm..Yes please! They were amazing. The night I went which was a Wednesday or Thursday I believe, they also do $5 martinis...yum delish. I've always been a fan of Bar Louie, because they take bar food and elevate it. So of course I'll be back!

Stopped by the bar and enjoyed a drink and appetizer Sunday. The pineapple sangria was so refreshing! The service was great! Loved the loaded tater tots! Take the time when in the area to break up your crazy day at Bar Louie

I am on a diet and my friend REALLY wanted to go here. So i figured i'd just find something on the menu. I had to pay $13 for some lettuce with a mixture of veggies in it. Perhaps the dislike comes from me not being able to eat what i want, but gosh, i am starving and this is all the food I get? Not only that but the music is awful... just awful. I know I am being hard on them, but just what the hell, Bar Louie? If you are gonna make pay top dollar at least fill a girl up. Update. My waitress is dressed in booty shorts like this place is hooters and spilled alcohol all over my friend's foot, and just threw my food away. Never asked if i wanted box, i still had a quite a bit of filling for my lettuce left.

Been here several times over the past yew months. Nightly specials on Tues Wed and Thurs absolutely make it worth while. Food is always good, seasoned well, with fair portions and great service. yeah - it's a chain, but it's a pretty good one. The drink menu looks pretty extensive, although I have only had beer there, no cocktails. The Bar is huge with a large outdoor patio. great for cool evening relaxing.

This is a beautiful bar and restaurant! It's massive, and seems like it would be a great place to host a big event with a group. We sat on the bar side, and ordered one of the most delicious cocktails I've ever had: the coconut mint lemonade. Holy, delicious!!! This is an amazing summer cocktail, and I totally aspire to make one like this at home. Also tried the strawberry lemonade sangria, which is delightful and summery as well. Food-wise we decided to share the apps, which I'm glad Samantha A suggested, because this menu is massive! There's certainly something here for everyone. I was skeptical about the salmon sliders, as I find salmon can just be awful if not done properly, but these were so adorable and tasty! The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the flavourful toppings made it so tasty. I love that the little sliders some with fries! It's pretty much big enough for a small meal. We also got the chicken parmesan sliders, which I may have loved even more! the veggie flatbread was tasty as well, but I was so full I only tried a little. Overall, this place is amazing for drinks and food, and would be great for a group. Prices were decent, staff was friendly and the atmosphere casual, but classy.

Bar Louie is the prime spot for crafted cocktails. Coconut mint lemonade is TO DIE for and the Strawberry Lemonade Sangria is just as delicious. There is a HUGE line of beer taps that feature classic domestics AND a generous amount of crafts, seasonal, and sought after local brews from places like Greenbush, Burn Em Brewing, and 3 Floyd's. The menu is huge so if you've never been there before... Scope it out online or plan on taking a minute to look it all over. There are classic options like burgers, wings, and spinach dip.... But there are also unique options like Ginger shrimp lettuce wraps and Seasame crusted Ahi Tuna steak sandwich. My go to order is the outrageously delicious veggie flatbread. It has the in house made spinach artichoke dip as a sauce topped with grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, balsamic onions, and cheese. I also love the chicken parmisan or blackened salmon sliders that come with bacon, pesto mayo (other toppings) AND FRIES. An app with a sandwich and fries?? Hello?!? Can I get a YUM?!? The staff is sweet, pretty, and always ready with suggestions if you're having trouble deciding. Plus there is always something going on there....DJs on the weekends... Martini night.... Half priced apps... one dollar burgers.... You have to come check it out! Oh-- fun fact: Bar Louie is locally owned and while it is part of a "chain" the way it's "owned and operated" is locally based and a little bit different than a typical bar Louie. The manager (mike-- who gives TOP NOTCH customer service) said all sauces are made in house and most all items are home made, hand breaded, freshly composed every day. That's a business you can back if you love local and love Michiana.

I had the Moscow mule and it was good but incredibly strong. But hey - who wants a weak drink? Prices seemed fair, we had a great server. The bartender messed up a couple drinks so she just gave them to us for free. The food is good. I didn't eat here the last time I visited but had before and was pretty happy with my meal. The crowd changed very suddenly around 9:30 on a Friday night. I'm pretty sure if you're a dude, part of the dress code included an insanely unnatural tan, ripped jeans and 4 lbs of gel in your hair.

Fairly disappointed in my experience this evening. My husband and I came here with another couple on our weekend in northern Indiana. We arrived a little after 12 and were carded twice. I order a craft beer from Three Floyd's and the other three got Sam Octoberfest. I finished my beer and the waiter never offered to get me another beverage. However, he go my husband a second beer. I'm not sure why he did not want to help me. But it was disappointing. The Bar Louie in Carmel, IN went out of business. I'm guessing if my experience this evening is any sign then it was for poor customer service

This is the best bar/hang out in the South Bend/Mishawaka area...I have no idea why it only has 3 stars. The crowd is a great mix and I think the food is pretty good, the service is always friendly and I LOVE sitting out on the patio! Everytime I visit I always go to Bar Louie! Great place for a drink and hang out and more up my ally since I'm from LA and this is the closest I can get to a real lounge in the Mid West.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere at this place. Much like the brewery next door, this place was very nice for being attached to a mall. Also like the brewery, I can only review the drinks and atmosphere. While some of the drinks were overpriced most were fair. I would definitely stop here again if I was in the area.

Good beers on tap. Good service. But the owners get 1 star for adding sales tax to drink purchases. You get your bill and it's $6.42. Sorry, but when I go to a bar and purchase a drink I don't wan a pile of change back. Any bar that does these kind of petty, penny-pinching actions won't get any business from me. Never mind the fact that the DJs are always boring. Something you'd expect in a shopping mall parking lot.

We had awful service. The food was forgettable and the ambiance was nothing to write home about. Oh and it was all over priced. Other than that it was great.

Service was outstanding- Laura was great! Food was above average. Get the tots instead of fries.

  • Nicholas R.

Don't buy the hype, the food is mediocre at best. They are trying to make it seem like this is "THE PLACE TO BE", and it is if you like extremely overpriced food, bad staff, and a room full of goobers. The menu is deep, but it can't shake the weight of the bar. . . . might be a place for a date but not a place you should check out more than once.

It's your typical chain restaurant. I've said this in other reviews about restaurants in the Michiana area, but really, that's all it is. I'm impressed they have more than one meat-free option on the menu, that is nice. I've never set foot in the bar though because they still allow people to smoke, and its a big sectioned off area in the restaurant so I can't imagine how horrible it must smell in there! Anyway, the wait staff is always friendly, so that's nice too.

Service was OK but a little disappointed to see the person serving our food on her hands and knees cleaning the floors. My wife was almost done with her meal and found a hair. The food was OK but not worth the price. All and all not again.

I don't quite understand all the so so responses regarding Bar Louie. I liked the atmosphere. It was comfortable not too loud even for a Friday night. Our service really exceeded our expectations. The waitress was very attentive and helpful on our first night there. She even gave us samples of the different microbrews they serve. The beers themselves were "average". The food was delicious. I had a pasta and cheese dish with spicy seasoning that had some nice kick to it. It went well with the ipa beer I had. We'll definately be back if hunger arises while shopping.

I absolutely love Bar Louie Mishawaka! 40 great beers on tap, great specials, and very friendly service! If you haven't stopped in for $2 burgers on Tuesdays you're REALLY missing out! I suggest the Steak Burrito...it has been outstanding every time!

It was ok. The food was reasonably good yet mall priced expensive. Nice atmosphere yet a bit of a gawky lunch crowd.

A nice place while a tad on the expensive side compared to other bars in the area, but you do get a good tasting, strong, well made drink. The apps are also good, and with the open patio there is ample seating. I love the pretzel sticks, and in the winter a Hot Chocolate or S'Mores martini is to die for after a hard day of work. Bartenders are super nice too!

I frequent Bar Louie on date nights with my fiance or girls' nights out. The atmosphere on the bar side is always a bit loud. Good if you don't mind shouting, but not the place for intimate conversations. The atmosphere has improved since they stopped allowing smoking inside. They have lots of TVs showing lots of different games. Just last night I could catch the Blackhawks game, X Games coverage, and NCAA Basketball. There's always some kind of drink specials going on. Try the Toasted Marshmallow Martini--it's to die for!

Good food, good service, pricey, not for family dinning. A very trendy, collage town restaurant/bar attached to the local shopping mall... They have a whiskey cake...to die for!!!

A clean, well lighted, and and pleasant bar, with a decent menu and interesting cocktails. The skinny monitor and Rita are well done. However, it was better when it first opened and they had a weekend dj. Since that was jettisoned we think it's gradually declined ans become something less than chic; oftentimes approaching boring. Hopefully it will revive itself and we can give it another chance.

What a sandwich the Mario is, great burgers on Tues for $2.00. The buffalo calamari is yummy too. BUT.....the array of beers is fantastic!

Stopped in for lunch. Had the meatball small plate. My wife and the salmon sliders. Both were excellent. The waitstaff were perfect, attentive, polite, and efficient. Bathrooms were clean, as was the rest of the house. The beer had a wonderful selection and was served ice cold. Not very busy for a lunch time.

Had lunch here a few weeks ago. It was pretty empty. The service and food was very good. I especially enjoyed the fried calamari! I'll be back here for sure!

Great meal here with a large group for dinner. Everything was super fresh and tasty (including the margarita made with agave nectar). Our server was a doll too. Solid experience for sure.

We used to frequent the Bar Louie in Evanston and Wrigleyville, before is decided to pee on my leg and move back to Indiana from Chicago. This is the most spacious Bar Louie I have been to. There's a nice quiet dining area separated from the bar or you can hang out to watch the game in the bar. The beer garden is great on a warm summer night with cold beer. The food is solid. A little different twist on the standard bar fare. Their beer selection is really, really good. It's a fun place to hang out and watch the cute bartenders in tanktops, while trying not to get slapped in the head by my wife. If they turned up the lights, I could get the excuse to wear shades inside and not get in so much trouble.

The drinks here are great. I've ordered the Samba and the Diva and they were both VERY good and decently priced. I also ordered the Sesame Encrusted Ahi Tuna and the portions were HUGE! It was cooked very well and seared perfectly. My group also ordered the Calamari as an appetizer and I think it was probably one of the best fried calamari I've had especially at a chain restaurant. It didn't taste like it was out of the freezer - perfectly crispy and seasoned well. The staff was REALLY REALLY friendly! And NO I don't work at Bar Louie - I've been here twice because my husband loves the beer and I love their mixed drinks. Each time the staff was always available and very friendly. I think their prices are very decently priced especially for the portions, quality and taste. I was surprised this place wasn't more populated when we went.

I came here with my parents. It's "alright". The atmosphere is pretty nice for the area. It's a chain, which I didn't realize at the time. I had a club sandwich which I had no problem with but was not the best I had ever had. My parents love the pear salad which did look delish and I was a bit sorry I hadn't ordered it. My main complaint is the following: The bar area is about 75% larger than the restaurant. At first I had no problem with this as we sat in a lush booth facing out so we could watch all the people come in and out. BUT ... I forgot that Indiana still allows smoking in bars. I just have an issue with people smoking around me when I'm eating. Maybe I've been in California too long.

The drinks were great, the food was fine. The ambiance was ok, but it was not very welcoming, the wait staff seemed to do a ton of talking amongst themselves, and the portabello on the portabello burger was so over cooked it made my bun soggy in 2.6 seconds

2 stars for a pretty impressive beer list. If you enjoy being at Bar Louie, there's a place called Bar Louie you can go. I don't know how you can have fun at such a place, but please do. I have nothing to say to you besides that.

This is a great place for dinning and hanging out. They have great music on weekends. The bar has a ton of beers on tap, as well as great mixed drinks. The atmosphere is hip and fun.

Actually, the lunch menu is fantastic... I'm hooked on the California Club with grilled chicken and sliced avocado. Great service from Brenna.

The waitresses were very nice. However, the food was atrocious!!! My husband ordered sliders which at first came out cold and then came back again like hockey pucks! The drinks were not even sub par. Apparently they also do not know what a Mai Tai is because what I got was a screwdriver. Never ever EVER again.

My daughter and went in for lunch on the 17th for lunch. We both had the pulled pork, and both got sick immediately when we got home. When my daughter called the manager to advise him of the bad pork, he accused her of lying. Never eating here again and I live in the area.

Why do I keep going there? I keep forgetting how much I hate the middle aged hookup vibe, the inattentive and completely clueless bartenders and the overpriced beer. Locally produced beer for $8 a 12pz? Get bent. Plenty of other places with better everything for the same or lower price.

    (2)
  • Alexis S.

Great management! Food is always consistent and bartenders hustle even when the bar is jam packed. On busy nights you might wait a little longer, but that is typical for any popular place on a weekend. The quality is worth it!

  • Jim K.

Interesting place. They serve really good food here and have a huge selection of beers on tap. Lots of TV's to watch your favorite team at the bar. They have an all female wait staff of 20-something hotties. And although I wouldn't classify it as a 'breastaurant' because they don't have a set uniform, some of the girls don't leave much to the imagination the way they dress. The downside to this place is when they are busy, the service comes to a painfully screeching halt. And they just don't care. When we first sat down, I ordered a Bud draft and it took the waitress almost ten minutes to come back and tell me they didn't have that. Then another five to come back with something else. After my buddies and I finished our entrees, the waitress sat down at our table to flirt with us (presumably to increase her tip) and I could see the people at one of her other tables were furious because they couldn't get her attention. I saw other waitresses doing the same thing, so I guess that's the norm here. But if their other customers need something, they are out of luck. The other thing I didn't like about the place was the portion sizes...absolutely minuscule. The three of us shared two appetizers and had separate entrees and I still had to order a bowl of soup after that because I was still hungry. And that took almost 15 minutes to show up. Another night we ate here, we ended up going to Sonic after our meal because we were still hungry. So even though the prices for individual items are reasonable, by the time you order enough food for yourself, it adds up quickly. But all in all it's a really nice place and the food is delicious. We ended up eating here four nights for the week we spent in South Bend. We actually went a 5th night but the place was dead (I think it was Friday) so we went somewhere else. Best bet is to sit at the bar for faster service and order a lot of food. If I'm ever in South Bend again, I'll definitely go back..

Came here for a quick fix. I've been here a few times before, this time on a quick trip from Southwest Michigan. I walked in, and the majority of the restaurant seating was reserved. The bar area is larger than the restaurant, but that's appropriate considering the kind of place and atmosphere. Only problem is, a wall divides the entire establishment in two, and the segregated bar engulfs quite a bit of available square footage for dining purposes. With plenty of seating accommodations in the bar, I should've been all set. Except... bar seating is 21+ only. I'm a little over 12 months too young to be seated. Despite being 19, also a competent adult and consumer, I'm asked to wait almost half an hour for a seat, while more than half of the restaurant is empty. I asked to speak to the manager to see if we could figure out some kind of arrangement. He came out, introduced himself with a handshake, was very polite and understanding. He explained how, by Indiana law, they were forced to build a wall to separate the dining area from the bar. Under no circumstances are individuals under 21 allowed behind the closed glass doors. He even asked me where I was from, followed by how he was also out of state from Chicago. So, we were both in agreement with the ridiculous nature that the place was forced to abide by, thanks to Indiana state law. So I reconciled and waited. The manager was very open and honest about the situation to start, and later came to get my dishes after my meal, and thanked me for being so patient.

It's cool for a once and a while type of place. If you're not raking in the cash, this isn't the bar you want to spend all night at. Drinks with middle of the pack spirits are going for at least 6 bucks a pop. They have a decent selection of beers but you can usually get better beers two minutes away at The Pub for a much friendlier price. I've never eaten anything at this place I didn't like. I love their food. Prices on the food are a little higher than average but not high enough to scare you away ... and now that i've had so many good experiences with items off their menu, the price doesn't even come into play. You know you're getting something good for your money. Service is typically decent. If you're at the bar, they are always spot on, but if you're at a table on a Friday or Saturday night... sometimes you catch your head on a swivel trying to flag your server down. I don't go here too often, but it's a nice spot for a once and a while hang out spot with friends.

Bar Louie was good; not great. If I had a choice, I would choose to return. The presentation was pretty typical if you think of a fusion between bar atmosphere and chain restaurant sit down. I was told Bar Louie was known for their burgers, and after trying the Southwest burger, I understand why. The burger tasted great and I would have had another one if I was still famished. The price was fair at $11 for a typical size burger with great taste. On a Thursday evening during dinner time, the dining room was not even half full. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a good burger. I also enjoyed an Anger Black IPA which was tasty. This is a good spot to find several craft beers in a variety to tease anyone's taste buds, which I have found is a rarity in northern Indiana. For beer and burgers in northern Indiana, Bar Louie is worthy of a solid 4 stars. Enjoy!

Great food. Great service. Dollar burgers are amazing. I will be a Tuesday regular. We were there on Tuesday for my sons 29th birthday. I let the waiter know that it was his birthday. He informed us that they do birthday shots. So my son accepted. We had quite a few beers and a few burgers plenty of food. But when the bill came it was listed on the bill. (BIRTHDAY SHOT) $5. I was shocked at that. I thought it would be free. Yes it was only $5. But I have been to many places on my birthday and one drink is always free especially when you have had many many many drinks. Not here though.

My star rating is higher than I would have given this place, but I have to give them credit for two things. The drinks are AWESOME (I've been dying for some real mixed drinks) and they were graceful when I returned my flatbread. I ordered the southwestern one, with no mention of cheddar cheese in the description. Needless to say (welcome to living east of the Rockies), my food was coated with cheddar. I don't think anyone told the cook that queso fresco isn't yellow... I was upset because I generally don't complain and return food, but I was starving and wanted something that tasted like home. So I asked for it to be redone with no cheddar and more cilantro. It came back out of the kitchen perfect! Even the server said that it looked much better than usual. And the drinks. Yummy! I don't remember the names, but I had a martini with cucumber, and then a coconut water mixed drink. Both were delicious and at a price that was a steal compared to what I would have paid in California! As for the bad reviews, if you're going for the nightlife, you may want to read the reviews a bit more closely. If you're going to enjoy some great drinks, good small bites, and the company of your best friends, then this is a great place to try.

We went here Saturday, July 25th during lunch, and again Monday, the 27th for a business lunch, and on both occassions the food was good, which is why we came back, and they had a good selection of beers, but the service was lacking. On both occasions, our server was a young woman named Samantha, who seemed both rude and impolite to us, and took a significant amount of time to come to the table, and our drinks took a long time to get here. I understand everyone has bad days, but it seemed like she couldn't even fake being nice to us. Would come back again, but only if the service were much better.

Very rude waitress misleading ad and was talked down to by a 20 something manager. I guess I'm not the age group they want
