I like being the thinnest person in the restaurant, while my daughter loves grazing on the insane quantity of asstorted desserts. Like most other kids, she can clumsily make a mess even when I prepare the plate for her. It takes a lot of staff to monitor all the potential health hazards created by careless customers, but having been to the dirtier version in Schererville before, this GC wasn't half bad. Service was decent and the food was what I expected. If you must indulge your kid(s) and build their immune system, I feel this one is safe. That said, check out the Naperville location, it's the best I've seen by far.

Well done for what is is. Went here last night to have a family dinner. There were 9 of us. There was a wide variety of all kinds of food and everyone found something that satisfied them. I was really reticent to go to a buffet. The long lines at the door made me hesitant too but once inside I found the space to be huge with a seemingly endless buffet lining almost the entire length of the place. Kudos to our server who did an excellent job refilling our drinks and clearing our tables especially considering the number of people in the place. It was packed! And kudos to the woman that I think was the manager who kept a watchful eye over the entire place that night. She kept the servers moving, the food rotating, got people in and out and made sure parents kept control over their little unruly ones. My only negative comment is that I can't believe a place this big has such a small bathroom.

OMG! What's worse than an open buffet where food sits out for who knows how long (I don't care if there are sneeze shields, heat lamps or whatever!)? Answer: Food that sits out for who knows how long, with people cutting in line at the cashier, kids running around screaming while their parents stuff their pie holes, food all over the carpet and dirty dishes stacked high on neighboring tables waiting to be picked up. And to think I paid $10 for THAT?!? I'm not a big fan of buffets to begin with but this one is the worst I've ever seen. I thought Old Country Buffet's held that honor but folks, we have a new "winner", at least at this location. I'm not an overly picky person and pride myself with having quite a bit of patience but all of that was sorely tested on this night. Everyone deserves a second chance.... except Golden Corral of Merrillville! Bye Bye!

Best thing I can say is that their mashed potatoes are real, and not from a box. The spicy tilapia featured on their seafood buffet didn't have any flavor beyond hot. Far too loud, and I had to shuffle through a few plates to find one without spots. If you're looking to feed a variety of tastes for a low price, and if you aren't too picky, then this might be the place. I can say with utter confidence that the staff will indeed sing for birthdays, and did three times within ten minutes. Overall? Meh.

The lighting in this place and food are both dull. Everything I tried made my face twitch. The chicken taste like it was fried in salt. I'm glad I tried GC, but I will not be back.

Today my main manager, Debbie was not there. She always makes our visits here so special! Most of the staff are also great but not all. The food is up and down. Any of the fried fish especially "Catfish" is superb! Good place to get vegetables!

Absolutely disgusting. Probably the worst place I have ever eaten. The typed sign taped to the register stating "no refunds after paying," should have been an indicator. Everything was filthy and the food was horrible. The workers at the food stations were loud, rude, unkempt, and dirty. Don't waste your money here.

Our first visit there years ago wasn't impressive. It was a little messy and there was vomit all over the womens' restroom. However, we've been there many many times over the years since and it's been good. It seems clean. The food is hot and fresh. It's funny to see people on here complain that they hate buffets because when you go into it, you know what it is--if you don't like it, don't go. :P :P :P Buffets aren't the place for germaphobes-and you may want to avoid it during sick season if germs bother you. I've been told the meat isn't the best quality. The pizza wasn't the best I've ever had. The salad bar was good. Potato wedges are great. The baked potatoes and rolls are good. The dessert bar is good and plentiful. This buffet has more variety than any buffet in the area and the price is reasonable. I've never seen kids running crazy there.

I'm a self admitted food snob, and also am not a fan of buffets because I have a small appetite and feel like I never eat enough to make it worth the cost. My husband and I were really hungry and he suggested it so I thought I would drop my preconceived negative thoughts and give it a shot. I am super happy I did. The buffet is huge, it goes on and on with a large selection of food. I started at the salad bar and they had mixed baby greens, crumbled blue cheese, bacon, just a great selection of veggies and toppings. They have delicious soup and baked potato bar with all of the toppings you could want. They had seafood when I went, not sure if that's a regular thing, I had yummy calamari (yes really) and tempura battered fish. My favorite thing was the pot roast, it was perfectly tender, as good as when I make it myself. Mashed potatoes, gravy, cauliflower or broccoli with cheese, fresh carved ham, fried chicken, roasted chicken, oh my gosh all of the comfort food you could ever crave. They offer carry-out for $5.29 a pound so we will be visiting on a regular basis for that when I don't feel like making dinner. My negatives are minor, the lighting is blazingly bright florescent bulbs everywhere, definitely no sort of ambiance for dining and made me physically uncomfortable. I skipped dessert because nothing looked appealing (except the super adorable wands of cotton candy), I wish they had fresh fruit like strawberries and pineapple. It would be a nice healthier option for dessert as well. I also wish they had a place you could refill your own water and soda, even though the waiter/busboy was fairly quick I would prefer to have control of my own beverage service. So it was good, fresh, and plentiful. We will be returning.

I've been here a couple times because my kids think it's fun. Ugh! I'm not into buffets...you know...the whole trough thing grosses me out. This place isn't much different than any other. Unsanitary conditions with people's hands touching food and putting it back for someone else to eat. Serving utensils being dropped and reused before washed. Ugh! I'm grossing out typing this. Sticky tables. Well needless to say we never went back after the second time...I just couldn't take it.

The restaurant looks very messy and the interior design blows this fact out of proportion. The food itself was also of low quality. Much of the food was very plain and left us sick after the meal was over. Only real "positive" was the desert bar. If you can, try to avoid this place.

So let me say I hate buffets...I really do. But I have an 11 year old nephew who loves steak and wanted to try the all you can eat steak at Golden Corral for his bday. I give in and away we go...40 minute drive to Indiana for Golden Corral. So, the fried chicken and yeast rolls were the best thing there. I ate one bite of steak and gave it to my sister. It didn't taste like beefy good steak. It actually made me suspicious... like it was fake steak. I took one for the team and spent $30 bucks plus tip for 2 dinners. I would have been happier with a PB&J at home.. but it was worth it seeing my family together again.
