Hidden inside a church, this is the nicest "true" cafe outside of Chicago. Not only is the coffee and food amazing, but the seating area is so large, even on a busy day you're sure to find a quiet corner to study at. My favorite is the couch by the fireplace, but I'm willing to share...

Awesome location! And who doesn't love the ooey gooey goodness of Cinnabon!? What I like about this location is they are always friendly and helpful if you ask about when fresh rolls are coming out or a cup of water to offset the pure sugar you're shamelessly stuffing in your face. When my sister and I wanted to split one to celebrate our birthdays, the employee happily cut it in half for us and gave us extra icing and a coupon as a way of saying happy birthday. Over the top service here. :)

I am here now for the Sunday Buffet special. Delicious! Note: There is a sign stating that there is a 2 plate maximum on Sunday's Buffet due to rising food costs. The buffet is $15. Although I don't have a frame of reference, I thought the Southern comfort food was fantastic! Check out their Facebook page for more pics and info on their food. I don't think I am getting all the names right but this is some of what they have: Greens sauteed with pork Baked mac n' cheese Stuffing with gravy Candied yams Wild rice with red beans and pork Baked or Fried chicken Ribs (they looked like they had bbq sauce on them) Pasta salad Potato Salad (with hardboiled eggs) Cornbread biscuits Fresh fruit Cake (not sure what kind) and cookies Peach Cobbler!
Will come back for the home cooking. Went on a Wednesday and it is all you can eat buffet day. We did get that however I was a little shocked when the bill came it was 15 a person... I know it's all day however we were there for lunch and the waitress didn't tell us the price when she asked if we wanted a menu or buffet. Guess it was a little my fault for not asking but didn't think it was going to be that high and also it didn't include a drink. I will be back... But will look at the prices first.
I love this place and everything they stand for. We have eaten here several times. The service is always great. It is always perfectly clean and everything I have ordered is cooked to perfection. I will come back any time!

Aladdin Pita

Reviews:
A very good experience. It's authentic Lebanese and nearby fare. Wife is Egyptian and they have menu items she grew up eating. Bread was warm and soft. I really liked the falafel and eggplant sandwich. The combination meat sandwich can be split into an extra sandwich, that much meat. Solid cream brûlée. This place good for novices and for experienced Mediterranean foodies. Priced right. Wait staff very good.
This is the best middle-eastern food in Chicago-land. I have been eating food like this for decades and this place wins out on quality, service, and the fact that there is a middle-eastern grocery and Hookah shop right next door. They bring out complementary appetisers and pita with each meal - even a $4.00 sandwich -- which includes all the standards plus 1-2 random items. This is a super treat! The iced tea and Turkish coffee are perfectly prepared. I usually order the felafel and eggplant sandwich and perhaps a sweet with my coffee after the meal. I think they have an all you can eat buffet on Sunday night. Now, I know it is a haul from Chicago, but if you are visiting friends or coming and going to Michigan it is worth the detour. There is a smoking and nonsmoking section (Indiana law is different) and the middle-eastern men tend to sit in the smoking section and chat over tea most of the afternoon if you come before 5. They also have Hookah if you are in the mood. Unlike others, I have never felt the smoking was a problem and it never bothered me. Most times I have been here there has been one booth in the back where people smoked. Never more. I have spent time in Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands, Italy, (and, Chicago) before and after the smoking ban and people smoke in the villages and non-tourist areas even today. A very good restaurant on the north side of Chicago was run by a Lebanese guy named Nimrod (some of you might know the place) and there is a great black and white photograph of him downstairs with smoke rings wafting up through the air. As he put it after one meal, a good meal followed by a good smoke is a "Lebanese tradition." I am not Lebanese but I took his word for it. I truly appreciate a smoke-free place, but I think that tobacco and middle-eastern culture often go hand in hand.
The food was great. We went on a Thursday night and didn't realize there was the buffet option available. There was a great variety of food, ,including veggies, hummus, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, rice, lemon chicken, lamb, etc. The lamb had a weird taste to me, but I am picky about lamb, my husband loved it. The dessert was meh- some almond cake and fruit. Where was the baklava!!!?? The only thing I had a big problem with was the service. The waitress must have walked by me at least 5 times, made eye contact and kept walking! She sat in the booth next to ours and just sat there, talking to her - boyfriend, another waiter? I have no idea. But it was kind of rude. Finally my husband turned around and asked for the bill. I would go back because of the food, and just hope the service gets better.

Stopped while passing through. Conveniently located off the highway. Only noticed because it is nezt door to a coffee shop. So lucky we came in! Great variety of bagels. The egg and cheese sandwiches were made with care and very good. Don't know when we'll be this way again, but we're glad we stopped.
Excellent little bagel shop that's super warm for those chilly mornings. They carry far more bagel varieties than Einsteins and still maintain a high level of qualify. The inside is warm and fluffy, while the outside is golden and slightly crunchy. I had the egg, ham, and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel. The bagel quality is excellent, but their other ingredients--ham and cheese are a little lacking. However, their prices are 20% lower than Einsteins. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here.
Picked up two dozen that made then fresh to order great people great bagels could not ask for more I drive 77 miles to get these bagels and they are worth the trip every time

The fries are amazing! Whenever I'm in the area, I make it my business to stop by this place. The only thing that I can honestly say I've tried is the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. Hey, when you have a good thing going, why change it? LOL! Every time I look to try something else, I always change my mind and go with my trusted fave!
Gyros are great! Fresh cut fries are great! My Philly sandwich wasn't that good. It's more like an Italian beef sandwich. I should have known better, outside of Philly, PA I haven't had a good cheesesteak. But that aside, definitely worth coming if you are in need of a quick lunch or dinner & traditional fast food isn't your desire.
This place is great. The best fries and gyros in Merrillville. I also really like the lemon rice soup. It's a good value for the money as well.

Note: This review refers to the location in Highland, IN. ...Theodore, please. Friend's in Highland is a creme de la creme of hookah lounges of Northwest Indiana. Super chill atmosphere with service which is absolutely BAR NONE. I actually live closer to the Friend's in Merrillville and I will drive out of my way just so I can have that one of a kind hospitality brought to you by the Highland crew. I have noticed the tip thing before but I have yet to experience that since then, and that was years ago. I have no problem giving my server tips. He works his ass off and it shows. It pains me that places like Aladdin's Pita stopped doing Hookah, but Friend's will always have me as customer las long they keep up that 5 star service I now expect from them everytime I show up.
Great place great flavors, how ever staff doesn't seem to care that much and also they seem to want to socialize with their group of friends than worry about guest. The price is little high, but I'm not sure what the product cost to buy and make. Over all I will be back, the product is great, and it is a fun atmosphere to hang out with friends.
the atmosphere is amazing and so so friendly. I love the staff. they're super casual and take care of all of their guests really well. I recommend this place for any high school or college kids who need a chill break with friends (ha!) or just travel solo. their prices are pretty decent as well. check them out!
