Charming little building, good food, and friendly service. It doesn't get any better than this! The breakfast potatoes were clearly freshly sliced and cooked - delicious! I'll definitely go here again.

What a gem. We had breakfast and loved the food, atmosphere, and price. Excellent coffee! Have already notified my out of town parents that they will be dining here next visit.

Very well greeted by new management/staff! Historical brick and industrial Americana décor give the place an authentic vibe Audrey's Breakfast - classic American fare, best bacon I've ever had. The only improvement I'd suggest is a larger sign or notification to where it is. Kind of lost in a group of buildings. But then again, perhaps, that's what makes it a hidden gem.

This place is good and worth a visit. Found them on yelp after getting rained out for golf at The Fort. Chicken salad was very good and the other guys had the turkey sandwich and fish tacos. Everyone was happy. Make sure you try the house made chips.

My friend suggested Cafe Audrey and I had been once before and liked it, so I agreed. I love any kind of chicken and saw tenders on their menu and the waitress said they were great, so I ordered them. When I took my first bite, I almost took it back out. They were so bad. I mean inedible bad. I told the waitress and she asked if I wanted anything else, so I said pancakes (I had gotten those the first time and loved them). When I got the bill, not only was I charged for the chicken I didn't eat but also the pancakes. Really? You don't even stand by your food at all? The worst part about it is that my friend was treating and she had to pay for two meals for me instead of just one. I will never go here again because of this experience. (But if you want killer pancakes, this is a good place. Just avoid the chicken tenders like the plague.)

Yep! Here's another sweet breakfast place. I had the basic breakfast: 2 over easy eggs, potatoes that were absolutely the best, bacon, and 1 pancake with bananas. Loved it all. My husband had the breakfast hash, his second time to order it. Loved it! Very relaxing atmosphere; great service and coffee. Check it out!

Visited with a coworker. He said it was the best breakfast he has ever had. I had the chicken salad. Made from scratch and it was delicious. We will be back.

I go to Cafe Audrey every chance I get. Everything I've had there has been delicious from breakfast to lunch. At first I always got the black bean burger, they make it fresh in house and cook it so its perfectly crunch on the outside. Finally I got around to trying the breakfast and I am so glad I finally did. I am not a huge fan of breakfast foods but I will do anything to enjoy some Cafe Audrey's breakfast. I also love that they support local artists there. On the walls you can find art work from various people ranging from mosaics to paintings and its hard not to fall in love!

Looking for a late breakfast, and wanting something different, my wife and I ventured to Audrey's based on Yelp reviews. We were not dissappointed. Simple atmosphere, but a great breakfast and lunch menu. Both of our omlettes were sublime. Located on the Fort Ben campus, this is a small business that deserves area support. Easy jaunt from Fall Creek Giest area. The owner was absolutely charming and we look forward to seeing how she grows this little gem. Obviously, we'll be back!

My husband got the breaded tenderloin & I got the Fall Harvest Salad both were excellent! The atmosphere is relaxed, clean, & inviting. There is only one waiter which means a little extra waiting but she is extremely friendly :) the place is a bit hard to find, so make sure you look at pictures of the exterior first!

Why, why, why! We have tried so many times to like this in our neighborhood spot. The building it self deserves so much more. First off why would anyone put a self serve coffee station at the main walk way into the dining area, if I was wanting to serve myself coffee and weave in and out of people and tables I would stay home. Please move the bussing cart away from the POS, and the wrapped silverware you are giving me to eat with.9 At least if the bus cart was out of view I could pretend that everyone washed their hands after bussing a table. Now on to the food. How lazy that you expect me to believe that the sausage gravy did not start from a powder. It is not hard to do grease from cooking raw sausage for the gravy, butter, flour, and cream. Pillsbury makes a great frozen biscuit I know I've used them many times. The fried potatoes are the highlight of today. Fresh cut potatoes not soaked in water before cooking. How do I know, they had a gray tint to them, who cares they are fresh. I ordered the lemon french toast. The price 8.49$ for local baked challah bread. Game on, but what local bakery? Now why only two slices of bread and one strawberry cut in quarters? Sorry but we have tried again and again and let down each time.

First time here at Cafe Audrey. Looking for a new place to take my mom. We had a little trouble finding because I didn't see a sign but they had a mailbox with the number and we saw people leaving. We ordered chicken salad and tortilla soup (mom) and quiche of the day - sausage green pepper onion pepper jack cheese and it came with a side of fruit (me). I loved the quiche. Just the right texture and instead of giant chunks of sausage, which I do not like, it was ground sausage and finely chopped onion and green pepper. My mom said the chicken salad was not very flavorful and the soup was just ok. I didn't taste either. We both had their homemade chips which were good although a little on the salty side (I took home for my husband the salt king). Very nice atmosphere although our waitress told us we came in just after the lunch rush. She said to come before 11:30 or after 1:15 if we'd like a more relaxed atmosphere. However we thought it was just fine Will definitely come again.

Quaint little cafe located on what was once Fort Benjamin Harrison. Originally the old blacksmiths building by the old mule barns...so some interesting history. Breakfast was pretty standard fair. Service was fairly fast and very friendly. Very convenient stroll if your staying at Benjamin Harrison State Park Inn.

Still just as great and food was wonderful. Staff was very friendly, especially our waitress. Loved talking to the owner as well.

Made plans for Father's Day got the whole family together drove to Cafe Audrey because my husband is very fond of your menu and the atmosphere... we were welcomed by a hand written note that read Closed Sry...I called and a women answered...I explained that I had called the day before to make sure of the hours for Sunday Father's Day and she explained to me that the people from the kitchen decided to close...so disappointed...and will tell friends not to waste the gas to drive there ..."They might be Closed Sry"

Good etiquette, Cafe Audrey. Being on the historic fort grounds, this charming little establishment serves up a a typical breakfast/brunch/lunch menu with a small selection of classic items. Whether you're here for a homestyle farm breakfast of hotcakes, bacon, sausage, and eggs or omelettes. There's richer options like french toast, breakfast hash, and biscuits 'n gravy. For those who are even feeling a bit Francophone - there's even quiche of the day. I originally came here during Friday lunch rush and it was a good 20 minute wait, so we decided to revisit another day. On returning our 2nd time, I was here with a group of 3 for a convenient lunch since a friend works down the street from there. For a vegetarian - there's either salad, soup, french fries, or recently they added a garden burger for you. Nonetheless, I ordered a chicken salad on their homemade sourdough and my boyfriend had the tenderloin sandwich. The chicken salad had large chunks of white meat chicken in this creamy mayo whip with diced dill pickle (I loathe pickles!). It was served with a side of homemade chips (kettle-style, quite hard and tasteless to my likings). Still, a really good chicken salad sandwich. My boyfriend didn't really care for the tenderloin sandwich and I doubt he'd bring me back here. Great place to go if you need to set up a lunch date with buddies over at DFAS or other businesses around there. I have to go back later to try their quiche and soups.

Chafe Audrey is a nice breakfast option in Lawrence with consistently good service. I like the fact that they at least have the option of gluten free pancakes. I would warn that they are some of the driest pancakes I have had in awhile. There was way too much potato starch in it. Something needs to be added to them for taste and flavor. I will give them a nod for trying and at least having a GF breakfast option other than eggs, but when I come back, I'll be sticking to an egg breakfast .

  • Ashley P.

I love coming here to get my biscuits and gravy fix. I have tried many a place across the country, and Cafe Audrey's stacks up as one of the best. It can be a hard choice though sometimes between that and their pancakes. This small cafe has quick service and is a wonderful Lawrence breakfast option, especially if you want to support local businesses.

This place is awesome! Love the food and the staff. The building is super cute and every time we go it is better than the last. The huevos rancheros is SO good.

almost 5 star but a tad pricey but so was the old owner/menu which was not nearly as good & had weak, weak coffee; ingredients are fresh, a bit of a fresh take on some 'old standards' that make them even more delicious, coffee is more than good (already used delicious:); coffee bar is a genius idea... boo on the reviewer who couldn't 'get why it was done and where it was done, obviously no knowledge of business; husb & self hv hd the male server (looks like Hugh Grant) each of the 3 times we hv been, he is polite, competent and has NEVER said "no problem"; can be loud when parents do not instill thoughtfulness to others into their children

Just had breakfast here. I had the french toast and sausage and it was delish. The coffee was rather weak and tasteless, and our server only offered a refill once. Service was the weakest part of the whole meal, our server only came by twice, once to take our order and once to pick up the plates. We had to ask for refills and our check. It was good food, but I'm bummed about the lame coffee.

Food is good but someone dry. Skimpy on the meat but the coffee bar was neat and made up for it. Service was excellent. Need to work on menu that is hard for old people to see. Overall a good experience.

YUM. Had breakfast this morning at Cafe Audrey. There were here of us at the table and we were seated right away. This is not normally a good sign in a breakfast place because you want to go where others also like to go. BUT, food was really good. I ate pancakes with a side turkey sausage patty. The pancakes were just the right size and light and fluffy. My friend got the bagels and lox plate with a Parmesan bagel. Also looked good. I would return and recommend to others.

  • Lacey U.

It's a good little local place that's hit and miss. Sometimes service is great, and then sometimes I'm invisible and can't even get seated. There is, however, an amazing egg/black bean dish that craves your attention. I've only seen it from across the table, but the memory is enough to make me return. The last time I was there, I had the Jamaica patties. A bit too greasy (duh, they're fried), but that's just my own palate. WARNING - Pay attention to the check-in vouchers. I checked in the last time I was there and I received a "Free Appetizer" offer. However, this time when I went to use it, it was expired and I was unable to use it.

This place is a hidden gem. I love it. I have been here twice, the servers have always been friendly and helped recommend awesome dishes. Eggs are fluffy, bread is spongey and fresh, and drinks are never on empty. The specials change up daily and are always delicious. The cafe is comfy and trendy. I do recommend anything on a baguette.

This is more of a place-holder review -- putting the place 'on the map' and hoping that others will check it out. I ended up here quite by chance the other day (heading to Triton Brewing Company only to find that I arrived an hour before it opened. So I stopped in at Audrey's to have a coffee and pass the time.). That said, I think Audrey's Place has great potential and I really liked it. I had the coffee and macadamia cheesecake. Both were wonderful. I'm not really a coffee gourmand, but my friend is, and it certainly met her high standards (for coffee). And the place seems to do a lot more than coffee. The menu featured burgers, bagels and lox, you name it. Anyway, I hope to return soon, try something else, and update this review. But in the meantime, I see great potential in this place -- for breakfast, brunch, lunch or even as a stop for a Triton Brewing pre-party. I hope others like it as well.

Café Audrey is a little tucked-out-of-sight, but totally worth finding. I decided to come here after seeing a sign on my way to Fort Harrison State Park, where I was spending a relaxing weekend solo. I did have a short wait to be seated for Saturday morning brunch, but it wasn't unreasonable, and the staff was very friendly about it. I ordered pancake combo with bacon and eggs, and everything was tasty. The pancake batter was... different. I don't know exactly how, but I liked it. (A huge stack of pancakes might have been too much, but I only had a couple.) The atmosphere was bright and comfortable, the prices reasonable. I also appreciated the free wifi. On Sunday I decided I should try someplace new, but it turned out to be terrible and I ended up wishing I had just come back to Café Audrey.

I had the biscuits/gravy with a side of fried potatoes. I'm very picky about biscuits and gravy, but was very happy. The biscuits were light, the gravy was creamy and flavorful. The husband had Norris' hash, a hash made up of eggs (your way), fried potatoes, sausage, green peppers, onions and spinach, with a side of a light, fluffy biscuit. He devoured it. Love that the food comes out on nice but non-matching plates, reminiscent of grandma''s. Love this place. Try it.

I came to take advantage of the coupon. The food was good, something I'd definitely eat again. Atmosphere was also pleasant. We came close to closing time, so I'm assuming our service was sketchy due to that. I won't be too critical, considering. I think it's one of the best restaurants within a mile, all things considered.

Quick and dirty: mom-and-pop restaurant that does breakfast and lunch. Good food; good service; nice people. Highly recommend. It's a little out of the way in an older building on Fort Ben. It is about a block east of Post Road and a block north of 56th St. The restaurant itself is well done and a comfortable and enjoyable place to eat. We discovered this place the first time last week through Yelp. We had the quiche and huevos rancheros then. Quiche: Varies in type. Generous portion. Good texture. Very flavorful. Recommended. Huevos rancheros: Well-prepared and flavorful. Salsa Could have been hotter for my taste but still good. Recommended. Visited again on February 16th at around 11:30. Another good experience. The parking lot was fairly full, and the hostess said that the wait would be about 25 minutes. We were seated in about 20 minutes. This time we had the broasted chicken and the biscuits and gravy with 2 over easy eggs. Broasted chicken: Very good and remenicent of the "good ol' days." Be forewarned, it is prepared when you order it. It takes about 25 minutes and arrives HOT. Biscuits and gravy: Flavorful and meaty gravy. The biscuits were fluffy and buttery tasting. The over easy eggs were perfectly done. They timed this entrée to be ready and hot at the same time as the chicken.

Visited Cafe Audrey a couple weeks ago and, WOW, very pleasantly surprised!! We took advantage of the Yelp! Deal and enjoyed a great breakfast and saved $10! Danielle had the Louie's Special, which she thought was great. Eggs were poached perfectly, the bacon was thick and crispy, the way she likes it, and she opted for the biscuit (which I ate most of). I had the Huevos Rancheros, one of my faves, and this version was prepared a little differently. Under the eggs were fried corn tortillas that added a unexpectedly crispy layer that gave the breakfast a great texture. We're always up for new places and are looking forward to getting back to Cafe Audrey to try the lunch menu!

I had lunch here on a weekday last week and was pleased at how nice the atmosphere was. There are nice pictures of the actual Audrey on the walls. The tomato soup was delicious. It was clearly homemade and was perfectly seasoned, not overly salty at all. I would get it again in a heartbeat. The grilled club sandwich was good, but it didn't come with the tomato, onion, or lettuce it said it would on the menu. I didn't notice until the end of the meal. The service was exceptionally friendly. I also spoke with the owner and her father (Audrey's husband) and they were very friendly. They also mentioned plans to deliver to DFAS which would be a goldmine. I highly recommend giving this place a try!

Visited here for a business meeting. Great location, nice r- purposing of the space, staff was super friendly and owner super nice.... I had the pancakes, and I find it hard to mess pancakes up unless you live in my house, but the pancakes were terrible and uneatable. The sides were decent but nothing special at all. It might have been an off morning but the food was pretty bad. There are a lot of breakfast options in the Lawrence area.

It's was just okay for me and my friend. I been here 7yrs and heard about this place for brunch..okay so me and a girlfriend finally go. The hash browns were cold the pancakes were cold.. you could forget about melted butter on top! I ordered a lox and bagel with capers and cream cheese to go that ended up in my trash! Hot mess all around except for the atmosphere.. love the exposed brick. My friend just had a bagel and one cup of the most horrible coffee, what a watered down mess! We went back to my house and had a real cup of joe! Nothing to write home about and the cost with tip was 28.00 and some change.

Good for breakfast. Worked well with wife's food allergies: since one of them is dairy, that is especially important for breakfast places. Great coffee and good friendly service, too.

It is no wonder when you look at the reviews and you'll see on the rating details at the top pf the page that it is nothing but up for them and that they are consistent in good service and their food. I was so impressed from the moment we sat down, the staff was friendly but not in that way people in customer service can be, in a down home actually happy to be there, friendly way. We were there for lunch and I ordered the fish sandwich and my mother ordered a shrimp sandwich, both of us were thrilled with our food and the cost was more than reasonable. The fish was well seasoned, fresh and flaky and the sauce they used was very nice. I had a side of coleslaw, which I am always a little leery of ordering, because there are so many ways of making it, but they nailed that too. My mother had nothing but great things to say about the items she ordered. We will be going back for breakfast!

My husband and I stop in a few times per month for breakfast. I love the biscuits and my husband enjoys their omelets, but all the standard breakfast fare is available. The service is fast and friendly and it's a cute, casual setting. For lunch, my husband also enjoys the tortilla soup and the chicken salad. Great service and great prices.

This place is tucked away in an unassuming location. But when the parking lot was full when we pulled up, we knew it would be good. Service was great, and the breakfast food was excellent. I got the huevos rancheros, and loved it. My wife was impressed with their selection of hot tea. Kids liked their pancakes. We definitely will be back.

This place is Great! In a place filled with franchises and greasy spoon places this place hits the mark for a Breakfast/Lunch Dinner. I've only been here once, had the Norris's Hash and my girlfriend had the Breakfast Burrito. Both were excellent. The Fried Potatoes are better than grannies. Great rustic atmosphere, phenomenal service and the food was amazing, fresh, and delicious. Well worth a try. I have a feeling I'm going to be a new regular here.

We used to frequent Cafe Audrey 1-2 times a month a few years back (during the pre-Yelp years as I call them), but when we found a breakfast spot closer to home we honestly just stopped going. In the mood for something different, we decided to revisit Cafe Audrey as we had pretty good experiences here in the past. Of note, although Cafe Audrey has been here for 5 years, it has only been under the current owner for 1 year. I would say that things have changed for the better under the new owner. Our server also mentioned they are working on the "Winter Menu", so I anticipate the menu offerings may change seasonally. We opted to sit on the front patio outside on a gorgeous morning to enjoy our coffee. After much deliberation (as everything looked SO good after a morning work out) I ordered the Florence's Omelette -- filled with the tastiest fresh roasted red peppers, mushrooms, spinach, and goat cheese ($8.99). YUMMMMMM. It came with a bread side (I got the cinnamon toast) and another side (fried potatoes as opposed to fruit for me today). The hubs got the BBQ Bacon Burger (no cheese) and loved it. We also sampled the Harvest Slaw and chicken salad -- amazing. Dessert was a little lackluster (Simply Devine Carmel Cupcake), but I really appreciate that they feature local area businesses now. Shelly our server was absolutely fantastic. She admitted to being a little distracted as her daughter was coming home from college for a visit, so we happily overlooked a few minor mishaps in getting our order correct. Shelly corrected the mistakes quickly, took full responsibility, and apologized profusely at every turn. She made sure to clear any dishes that may attract bugs or bees in an attempt to keep us as comfortable as possible. She even brought out samples of various salads and sides that we asked about so we could make an informed decision on what to order. We never felt rushed and Shelly was just so darn genuine and sweet. **Cliff notes version**: -- The bottomless coffee and tea bar has fantastic choices and variety including coffee by Mile Square (YES!) AND it includes a to-go cup to take with you! -- Free cup of bottomless coffee with a Yelp Check In! -- Cafe Audrey serves breakfast and lunch all day and doesn't judge you for getting a burger at 9am. The hubs is proof of that. -- Patio is dog friendly. -- Meats and some other ingredients appear to be locally sourced; desserts are brought in from local bakeries (Lawrence Baking Company Apple Pie, Simply Devine cupcakes) -- They have added a diner-type counter where the ice-cream area used to be inside the front door and it is still super cute inside. We will definitely be adding Cafe Audrey BACK in to the rotation of breakfast spots as I am dying to try the Lemon Scented Challah Bread French Toast!!!

After a long steamy, but exhilarating morning run what better way to celebrate then to go out to brunch with the rest of my running friends out breaking their own goals!! So off the Café Audrey we went. Though I ran late the waiter was quick and attentive...YAY!! I ordered the SUPERFOOD Egg white omelet. The omelet came stuffed with kale and avocado and tomatoes and Brussel sprouts and all kinds of goodies. It also came with a choice of toast or potatoes or a cup of fruit...I opted with no carbs and a cup of fruit. The omelet did not stand a chance...I'm not sure if I even chewed...but it sure was damn good! I was very impressed with not just the food but with the service and the coziness of this hidden gem at Ft. Ben. Definitely a go to place for a good breakfast or brunch with friends or hubby. Also if you like sitting outside...they have outdoor seating!

What a well-run establishment. I go here several times a week on lunch break. Small and cozy, this restaurant is an unusual sight in the Lawrence area. I've only gotten breakfast food here thus far, but I have heard the lunch fare is just as delicious. There really isn't a bad option. I prefer the build-your-own-omelette with a side of fruit. It's fresh and makes for a perfect break in the day. Add in the bottomless coffee bar complete with a variety of local coffee options, and you've got a perfect meal complete with fantastic service. The wait staff is attentive and friendly; I haven't had a bad server to date. Only complaints - the restaurant is always quite chilly, and there is never an open spot on the patio. Those are pretty petty issues for a restaurant, and I am desperate to think of more as I type this. But I can't. All in all, this is a perfect breakfast or lunch spot with great, fresh, local fare.

This place is adorable. Little patio outside, bar top area, and regular seating area. The waitress was sweet and very helpful and the food was great. I ordered the Reuben-esque...Wholly Cow! The Harvest slaw is what really sets this sandwich off. Not a huge fan of the brussel sprouts in the slaw, but still was amazing. It was pretty quick. I did lunch, but this place would be great for breakfast and brunch. Nutshell: For hearty, fresh lunch for under $10 I'd definitely check it out.

What started as a simple hunt for a cup of coffee turned into bottomless coffee...and quiche. Blame it on the Yelp App. It always tells me what's nearby and what is offering a deal. Cafe Audrey serves free bottomless coffee from 7 AM-9 AM Monday-Friday when you check in on Yelp. (Again, I fell victim to a freebie.) I must warn you that Cafe Audrey requires you to do a little bit of searching, both geographically and historically. This historic building hiding near the corner of 56th and Post Road once served as a blacksmith shop in the early 1900s. Now, it's serving breakfast and lunch all morning and afternoon. On my visit, I sat at the counter and helped myself to the Cafe Audrey dark roast coffee, which comes from the popular local roaster Harvest Cafe Coffee Company. Don't like dark roast? No problem, as it's just one of the options at the self-serve coffee bar. Drink as much as you like, and even take a cup to-go. Food-wise, Cafe Audrey has a large breakfast and lunch menu with all of your usuals, from omelets to pancakes to granola to benedicts to salads to burgers and sandwiches. I noticed that the menu allured me with all the right words, such as "house made" "house baked", "locally baked", and "home fried". The phrase that did me in? "Luxurious custard pies, house baked from scratch daily". All signs pointed to ordering the quiche of the day with Audrey's harvest slaw. My corned beef quiche with swiss + kraut had all of the right ingredients to make it pretty tasty and homey, but what really made it stand out was when I smeared on a little bit of the thousand island dressing. A little bit of tang goes a long way, and this was no exception. My reuben-esque quiche vanished within minutes as did my crunchy kale slaw, proving that there was a whole lot of "yum" on one plate. With an area of town that needs a quaint place with house made food, Lawrence is pretty lucky to have just that at Cafe Audrey. I recommend it to bottomless coffee drinkers and quiche eaters alike.

My family and I were looking for a nice place to have brunch after we left the commissary, so I decided to reference my trustworthy Yelp app, which led us to Cafe Audrey. It is housed in a charming historic building and has a warm and cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were not acknowledged for quite a while when we entered. They were quite busy, however, it doesn't take too much extra time to tell customers that you will be with them momentarily, or at least say hello when you make eye contact. Eventually, the hostess was able to seat us, and when she did she greeted us cordially. It took a while for our server to arrive but when she did she was very pleasant. She directed me to the coffee/Tea/Hot Chocolate station so I could take advantage of Yelp's bottomless coffee check-in offer, and took my family's drink orders and was on her way. In the interim, I observed how busy all the staff was, which explained why the hostess was so harried when we first arrived. Not only was she the hostess, but she was also going back and forth to the kitchen delivering food to the tables. Our server returned my family's drink orders in a timely fashion, however, it took her quite a while to come back and take our food order. Thank God for the bottomless coffee, which was dark, robust, and flavorful because it made the wait bearable. When she did return, I ordered Florence's Omelet, which was filled with goat cheese, roasted red pepper, spinach and mushrooms. It was accompanied by potatoes and cinnamon toast. The goat cheese added a nice pungent note, however, other than that bit of excitement, the rest of the omelet was on the bland side. It could be great with some more seasoning. The potatoes were decent. When I separated the slices of cinnamon toast, instead of seeing cinnamon sprinkled throughout, there were big clumps of it present. My husband and daughter said their meal was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Cafe Audrey is a warm and pleasant setting in which to enjoy a meal and I may return some day. The food was okay, but it needed more seasoning in my opinion. Additionally, they definitely need to have more staff on hand when it gets busy so they can avoid long lulls in service. Due to the service issues and the bland omelet and clumps of cinnamon on the toast I have given three stars. This may have just been an off day due to the crowds and the lack of staff so definitely give them a try.

Today was the second time we have visited cafe' Audrey's. We really enjoy the food, service and location of this restaurant. The only reason it is not a five star in my opinion is the price. It's not crazy crazy expensive considering you are getting home cooked food but the price makes it hard to make this a weekly or maybe even biweekly place for grub.

After a 15 mile morning run at Ft. Ben, we were in need of carbs, stat. About mile 12 we started talking about breakfast. I have some friends that live in the area and they have talked about Café Audrey several times, so the decision was quickly made. By the time we got to a table, it was almost 11am, but Café Audrey luckily serves breakfast all day. We helped ourselves to the self serve coffee bar, trying different flavors on each trip, and decided what we wanted. Everyone in my party got the pancake combo. I, of course, had my bacon added to my pancakes and ordered my eggs poached. Our waiter, Seth, asked how I wanted them poached (soft, medium, hard) and informed me that they do a very good job on poaching eggs. Ok, I like my eggs medium. During our 15 minute wait for our food, Seth chatted with our table when he could between visits to other tables. He managed to start conversations with us and pop back in as if he hadn't missed the last 5 minutes of discussion. Quite a good skill for a server. Finally (not because it took long to make it just because I was so hungry) our food arrived. Well, I should say that 3/4 of our food arrived. My wife was missing her chocolate chip pancakes from her combo. Apparently the chocolate chips were overlooked and the chef didn't want to send out the pancakes just topped with chocolate chips, he wanted to remake them with the chips inside. My wife assured Seth that it was ok and he convinced the chef to send them out but only after he let me melt somewhat. The food was all very good. The pancakes had a good flavor, but they were very dense, especially for traditional pancakes. I prefer wheat pancakes (not an option here), so I'm used to dense cakes anyway. The eggs you ask? Perfectly medium poached and not because they use a steam poacher like some places. When you use a steam poacher the eggs are always shaped like little pucks. These eggs were traditional and properly poached. Kudos to the chef on that one. The portion sizes are not massive, but neither are the prices. It's a good option for a local breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Some things I'd change, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5: 1) Sometimes I want/need more than 2 pancakes, but that isn't an option; 2) I prefer wheat pancakes, which also wasn't an option; 3) with perfectly poached eggs, they should offer at least a traditional eggs benedict. None of those things will prevent me from going back. In fact, I'll probably be there this week after my Sunday run...but I've got my eye on the B&G this time!

Casual out of the way breakfast and lunch (both served all open hours) spot. Inside is furnished with a collection of wooden tables and chairs on an old wooden floor in an 'old Fort Harrison' building. Today, a cooler, low humidity day, the outside patio with umbrellaed tables was nice. Wait staff is efficient. Food choices are wide with most in-house made options. The trio plate of Tuna, Chicken and Potato salads was just right for a lite lunch. On other occasions, I've sampled the daily quiche specials, the house made hash served with eggs and the biscuits & gravy. No disappointments here. It is hard to find and I hope it survives its location.

It wasn't looking good for Cafe Audrey when I arrived shortly before noon on Memorial Day and subsequently waited 10-15 minutes before even having my presence acknowledged. Yeah, I wasn't happy. It's okay that there was a wait. After all, it's a small restaurant with a growing reputation and I happened to be visiting on a holiday. So, when I wheeled into the older structure located on what used to be part of Fort Benjamin Harrison I wasn't exactly surprised to see three parties sitting in their relatively small lobby area waiting on tables to open up. I wasn't thrilled, however, that I sat there for at least 10 minutes admiring the interior decor but feeling completely ignored. Eventually, one of Cafe Audrey's servers came out and began seating the parties before me and, rather unfortunately, it wasn't until all three parties were seated that I was even acknowledged and that was with a "I'll be with you. There's a wait." Um, yeah. I think I caught on to that. There was a two-person party that came in after me, though they fortunately didn't experience the full wait that I did before things seemed to smooth out and appropriate attention was paid. In fact, a few minutes after my "there's a wait" line I actually was escorted to a comfortable two-top against the wall of the building. It was one of those walls that had a lengthy booth alongside the wall with two-top tables and then chairs on the outside of the aisle. To her credit, my server Nancy removed the chair without question and seemed pretty attentive after that initial poor impression. I would eventually learn that they were understaffed for the morning - it looked as if there were two servers along with kitchen staff. Before my meal was done, a younger male would join in and provide a pleasant energy and attitude that really seemed to calm everything down. There are a few important things to note - There is no designated accessible parking, which kind of blows my mind. While it's not particularly difficult to find a way to make it all work given the layout, it still seems odd. At the end of the building, there's a natural curb cut and there's an ADA compliant wheelchair ramp into the building. As an older military building, it was obviously NOT built for accessibility when originally built. However, they've certainly made an effort and it's appreciated. The door into the restaurant is a little heavy with a bit of a lip to get into the building (in fact, it's harder going out). They have another exit, but it is not accessible as it has only steps. There's this unwritten rule that when you order lunch at a restaurant primarily known for breakfast that you're always a touch disappointed. However, I'm not a big breakfast person and it actually was lunch time. Both breakfast and lunch are served throughout their business hours. They actually keep their menu fairly simple - breakfast includes omelets, griddle items, eggs, etc.; lunch includes a variety of sandwiches, most of which come with a side. They do have lighter fare and do offer some gluten-free options. I ordered hand-battered chicken tenders, a side of fries, and my usual unsweetened tea. At this point, Cafe Audrey was squarely in the 3-star range with average service and accessibility concerns duly noted. The chicken tenders? Oh my, these suckers were the John Holmes of chicken tenders. They were ginormous. They were the kind of chicken tenders that would make other chicken tenders cower in shame. They were breaded beautifully and tasted absolutely incredible. I have little reservation in saying they were the best chicken tenders I've had in a restaurant. Period. They were served alongside an abundant order of delightfully different fries - not like wildly experimental fries, but seasoned differently enough that made you think "this is something special." They weren't the best I've ever had, but they were incredibly good. The iced tea was delicious and Nancy got me a refill without my having to ask. Bonus points. I'm pretty close to saying that based upon the meal alone, this would be a 5-star experience. The food was great, the serving size was plentiful but not overwhelming, and it was nice to be able to read a magazine at the table while actually enjoying a meal throughout. My gut tells me that the service is usually a notch higher than it was today, but I can only go on the basis of what I experienced. The initial wait without acknowledgement was inexcusable. The lack of accessible parking is potentially problematic, and I actually had to hang around a few minutes because my primary way out was blocked by another family that had arrived and were sitting with one chair in the aisle that leads out. That's both inconvenient and a potential fire hazard. The easiest solution is to put a ramp at the second door, though admittedly there's expense involved in that. 5-star meal. 3-star service/atmosphere. 4-stars for Cafe Audrey.

Food was really great - definitely fresh, even the fried shrimp in my Po Boy sandwich tasted like it was caught this morning (which is remarkable for our land-locked state). The slaw was delicious with the fresh, crisp apples mixed with the cranberries, veggies and apple vinaigrette. The house-made chips my husband had to accompany his tenderloin were also scrumptious (I mean, I must also try his to make sure my review is accurate...right?) Being ignored when walking in the door by the hostess, who passed us several times before even acknowledging us, is why I can't quite give this cute, local, eclectic restaurant 5 stars, but the rest of our experience gave us nothing to complain about!

My lunch was decent. I was disappointed that there were so few salad options--only three, two of which had fruit in them (I don't dig on fruit in salads). So I went the complete opposite direction, a shrimp po' boy with onion rings. It was pretty good; the remoulade didn't do much for me, so I added some sirhacha. They put both Tabasco and Huy Fong Sriracha on the table. I kind of appreciated the symmetry--the old-guard ubiquitous hot sauce and the new-school ubiquitous hot sauce. I'm not at all a hot sauce guy, but I think that sriracha is more versatile, and it came in handy for this lunch, on both the sandwich and onion rings. Service was fine. Friday lunch rush was pretty noisy inside this old brick barracks building, but the character of the place more than makes up for it. PS. The door is on the north side of the building. They could do a better job of indicating "Hey, here we are--over here...come on in!"

We love Cafe Audrey! We live close enough to ride our bikes over. You won't find a better breakfast! The hash, Audrey's Special, the French toast....delicious! All served with bottomless coffee! Pick your mug and fill it up!

Not a good value for the price. Dry house made biscuit, marginally made better with pre-packaged butter and jam. Did appreciate the friendly service and endless coffee/tea -- will be back as a study spot during class breaks. WiFi is not free, unless you are an existing xfinity customer and want to use that to sign in.

The food is awesome! I had the gluten free pancakes with blueberries cooked inside. Heavenly! By far this is the best little breakfast and lunch place in town!

Love the quaint atmosphere and bottomless self-serve coffee. Very friendly and attentive servers/staff. The blueberry pancakes are very tasty! Only a couple minor negatives- out of biscuits & gravy the last couple of visits, and the noise level inside is a bit jarring- due to the exposed ceiling beams and hardwoods, which is hard to get away from these days. I'd suggest a spot on the patio. :) Overall, a consistently solid breakfast spot!

The secret is out! Cafe Audrey is the best kept secret in Lawrence that flies under the radar without recognition. I happen to stumble upon this cafe after a coworker suggested it. Upon walking in, I was greeted by Audrey herself who cleaned a table for us and read off the daily specials. I started the look through the menu, thinking this was going to be another local sandwich and soup shop - I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of menu items. A wide range from a broccoli kale salad in house made soups and freshly made chicken tenders. I ordered the broccoli kale salad which was an enormous portion for around $7. A coworker of mine ordered an omelet which came with a biscuit, and another coworker order the chicken tenders. The food came out after a short wait and as I was grazing my salad I snuck a bite of the biscuit and squealed these are homemade!! Often it is so rare to find restaurants who are still doing things the old fashion way. I also noticed that the chicken tenders were made fresh, not frozen. The level of detail and time spent making their food does not go unnoticed. If you ever find yourself in the Lawrence area, stop by Cafe Audrey for a homemade meal that will satisfy the food enthusiast in you!

I went there for a late lunch and was greeted very politely at the door. The young lady that sat me was also my server and was outstanding. In fact everybody that works there seems to really like their job. I got the Rubenesque sandwich with fries. It was perfect. It's a turkey sandwich. They use a homemade slaw instead of Kraut. It had apples cranberries and broccoli in it among other things. The french fries were perfectly cooked and crispy.

In my humble opinion, this is the best dining option in the Lawrence area! Kelly R. and I love to lunch here during the week. The menu is awesome and they have good specials daily. Their house-cut fries are awesome and Penn Station-esque. I've been a couple of times, so i'll give you the low-down: Turkey Melt- amazing, couldn't finish it in one setting. Reuben- one of the best around.. Breakfast burrito- awesome. Not sure what the building used to be, but the decor and setup make it cozy. Both times we've had the same server and she was really nice. I highly recommend!

Charming little place with a lot of character. Everyone is so friendly, including the owner, and our server was fantastic. She was spot on with everything. I notice that it is so comfortable there that several patrons at other tables just sit and chat after their meals.. Which is exactly what we did this morning. I love how they have a self service coffee bar, with well worn-in coffee mugs. The pumpkin pie coffee this morning was perfect. Prices are appropriate and the portions are good sized. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and it was delicious. My breakfast companion had an omelet and it was a large portion. I noticed the owner personally cleaning tables, seating customers, and going around to each table to check on everyone. That, in itself, is amazing.

Awesome historic building that's been reused nicely. A little hard to find, tucked back behind one of the fort strips. Food was very good. Dh had the huevos rancheros and thought they were very good. I had Norris's special, and it was nearly worthy of the great Chuck N. Service was fast, mostly attentive. The manager stopped by to check up also. Only complaints: the noise and stains on the tablecloth. It was so loud I couldn't hear my phone ring. There are simple things that can be done for noise reduction. If done, five stars.

New management- The menu is pretty much the same, the food was really really good, but they haven't quite worked out all of the kinks yet. They were running low on some food that was on the menu. Quality food for a reasonable price here, but maybe a less than stellar experience due to inexperienced wait staff and management. I'll check back after they've had some time to get a bit more established and update this review

I can't even say how much I loved this little diner. It was stylish, homey, and the service was superb. For starters they have a self serve bottomless coffee bar with 4 different local flavors. I loved all of the mismatched mugs you could choose to drink out of; it felt like reaching into my cabinet at home. The menu was fairly straightforward, but definitely didn't leave me feeling like there weren't enough choices. I had Louie's Special and everything was tasty and cooked to order. My friend had Norris's Breakfast Hash and a side of bacon, and was also pleased with how hey cooked it. The potatoes and bacon were both crispy and flavorful...yum. The prices were reasonable and I loved that they didn't give you gigantic portions. We both walked out full, but didn't feel like we needed to waddle. Great service, great food, and feels like home; why wouldn't you go?!

On a very snowy Sunday morning, I happened to find Café Audrey on our way back from Downtown to Fishers. First of all, I was happy to find out they're open after 7-inch snow fall! They're cute and cozy inside and out, but if you're not mindful locating it, you may miss it. Importantly, I enjoyed their coffee bar which gave me a plenty of options of both mugs and coffee flavors to choose from. What a cute idea to put out all different types of mugs at their coffee bar! I had a banana pancake, and V had a biscuit and gravy. We both enjoyed our dishes as they were made to order and fresh; mine tasted like they were prepared by my mom (in all good ways). I feel like finding a breakfast-lunch place like Café Audrey is rather difficult around North side of Indy. At the end of our visit, they told us they're open 7 days a week and gave us a frequent diner club card. It was a delightful dining experience, and we're planning our visit back with friends.

If you manage to find this place, you're in for a treat! The little brown brick building has signage, but it's hard to find. However, once you're in, you'll find that the interior is very charming and inviting. The staff is very friendly, always. Serve-yourself coffee/tea offers varieties and you even get to choose your own mug! Ive been for lunch and dinner and both were delicious. Biscuits and gravy (one of my very faves) are excellent and there is always an omlete and quiche of the day. Do yourself a favor and find this place immediately.

Could not get seated, waited several minutes then walked back to the kitchen area and asked to be seated, the lady was VERY rude and said we must have just gotten there! Was very snippy with us, no smile no apology. There were only 2 of us, she sat us in the middle of the place 4 top. We noticed several people waiting for service. saw some friends with a large party they were having trouble getting waited on. We chose to leave. Sorry we were unable to even try the food. After read Jennifer F seem to be a service problem.

Tried to go for lunch, they were busy people waiting which of course is understandable. What is not understandable is standing there for 15 min with out so much as a hello, it will be a few, nothing. Maybe one day I will get to try the place. I left since no one seemed to care I was there.

Just a really great restaurant to get a fresh meal (breakfast or lunch) with fresh ingredients with unique recipes. I learned that almost everything is made from scratch (especially at breakfast).

I came here during a lunch break on a business trip to Indianapolis. I was seated outside, as requested and had the whole patio to myself. My server was great, she kept coming out to check on me and keep my drink full. It's always a risk with service to sit outside; sometimes they forget about you! I had the chicken salad sandwich and homemade potato chips. Both were fabulous. The chicken was roasted and had large chunks, paired with a bread that held up well to the generous amount of chicken. The potato chips were crisp and salty. What more could you want?

Yelp led a friend and me here for a lunch date (thanks, Yelp!). The high beam ceilings, mostly wood interior, and local art give it a homey, rustic atmosphere. We each ordered hot tea and the quiche of the day (meat and meatless options) with a side of potatoes. It was a generous slice of quiche for the price, and deliciously cheesy. The potatoes were excellent - big, lightly seasoned slices. Our waitress was very friendly. This place is a little hidden, but it's a good find! I may come back and try the ice cream parlor this summer.

We've eaten at Cafe Audrey every weekend since we first tried it. The food is decent and the atmosphere is pretty nice. I'm not a huge fan of open floor seating, but they're working with what they've got. The servers are always quick and very friendly. My only recommendation would be to hire a hostess/cashier. The owner of the restaurant tries to do everything herself and this means you may have to wait to get your name on the list or wait to pay. Even if servers aren't busy they won't seat you because the owner keeps the waiting list on her at all times. Things would be a lot smoother if she'd leave it up front and let the servers help seat people.
