Creative, artisan hamburgers that get beyond the normal bun + patty + cheese seem to be all the rage. And Big Four Burgers & Beer is one of the best places to get your fill. Upon checking out the menu, I was impressed by the variety of burgers. It included: * Hot Brown Burger, a turkey burger with mornay sauce, Swiss cheese, tomato and bacon; * Mediterranean Burger, with spinach, roasted tomato, feta, tzatziki sauce and red onions; * Country Burger, a beef patty with country ham, fried green tomato and benedictine spread; * Breakfast Burger, made with a maple-glazed beef patty, country bacon, egg, onions and garlic aioli. But the burger that most spoke to me was the Turkey Cranberry Brie. A handheld Thanksgiving dinner, this burger mixed the savory of the turkey patty with the sweet of the cranberry -- and garlic aioli and arugula added in. The whole thing just worked so well together. Plus, I got it with the garlic fries. Much like how places like Big Four are kicking burgers up a notch, fries are getting a re-do too, and these fries, which also include Parmesan, are not to be missed. My sister and I also split an order of pretzel sticks. These are quite large and tasty when mixed with the beer cheese. (And considering you get a check-in offer of 25 percent off an appetizer when you check in to Big Four on the Yelp app, these pretzel sticks are affordable as well.) The service was quick and friendly. It's also very close to the Big Four Bridge -- hence its name -- so you can easily make a meal here a part of a trip to and from the bridge. I don't get over to Jeffersonville as much as I should, but when I do go back, it will be hard for me to not go back to Big Four. I left impressed.

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Loved the option to get a burger on sourdough. Delicious. Service was casual to the point of indifference, but not in an off-putting sort of way. I ate here two days in a row. That's how good the burgers are.

Guess you have to be a yuppie or a beer lover to like this place. Don't mind spending money when the food is great, but in this case, it wasn't, and I did. Our group was four adults and one child. Three burger plates and two grilled cheese plates...purchased NO ALCOHOL, two of us drank water. ..and our bill was sixy-six dollars. I nearly crapped when I got our bill. Especially when you know you had to add a twenty percent gratuity to the total. Food wasn't as good as I could have gotten at Burger King and I would have left with an extra fifty dollars in my pocket.

Awesome menu. Build-your-own-burger option that was super fun. Great beer selection and friendly service. Bar upstairs and group space on third floor.

There are a ton of unique burger places in the Louisville/Southern Indiana area. I love most of those places, but it's rare that any of them leave me satisfied when leaving. This place left me satisfied! This burger place stands out by having burger options with ingredients that other burger places don't offer. Being able to walk across the Big Four Bridge to eat here is a big plus too. We decided to sit inside but there is a large patio outside too that would be perfect for hanging out & drinking the night away. I started with an appetizer of onion rings alongside a random beer(they have plenty to choose from!). They were fresh, hot, & the way onion rings should be! My burger choice: -- Queso Burger - Fresh ground beef stuffed with chorizo queso, topped with roasted chilies, pickled onions, queso fresco cheese, and fresh guacamole! I expected this burger to be messy, but the buns here really hold the burger together for the duration of the meal. I didn't check Yelp until after eating here, but I should have ordered the Garlic fries with my meal instead of the regular fries. The Regular fries were delicious, but according to Yelp I definitely should've ordered the Garlic fries. I'm already planning my next trip back here. I must try the Breakfast Burger - Maple glazed beef burger, country bacon, over-medium egg, grilled onions, and garlic aioli. Mussel&Burger Bar is the favorite breakfast burger, so it'll be interesting to see another restaurant's take on this burger. The service was awesome! A lot of other burger places are in eat & leave places. This one can be that, but it also has an inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stick around for a while. I could easily see myself hanging out here for a few hours on a Friday/Saturday night. I took off one star. My only complaint is that my burger didn't come as ordered. Don't get me wrong... I'll eat a burger no matter how it's prepared. In this case, I ordered it medium. It came out medium-well closer to the well side of things. Not a huge deal, but I could see certain people getting bent out of shape over something like that. I'll definitely fit this place in every few months. Next time I'm saving room for a milkshake!

The food was really good for burger/bar grub. We got the fried cheese curds for an appetizer and there was plenty for the two of us and possibly two more. They were nice and hot, flavorful and chewy. The dipping sauce will surprise you though, jalapeño ranch, good but be careful. My burger was cooked just perfect, I like it medium and it came out that way and was very tasty. The wait to sit was a bit long, but for a Saturday evening I guess it wasn't bad. It seemed to linger on waiting until we asked how much longer they said it was ready, funny how that happens, and there were 3 tables open. Could be dumb luck but I did see a couple tables downstairs that sat open for a long time. The kitchen may be just a bit too small for the entire resturant, but they turn out quality food.

Walked the Big Four Bridge from Louisville over to Big Four Burgers and Beer in Jeff. First time here and had a great experience. The turkey melt and house chips were excellent. Everyone else at my table got burgers and fries and said they were very impressed. The portion sizes were big and the cost was low. Great service too. Can't wait to go back and try something else!

The initial service was pretty prompt, but after waiting half an hour for a check (our server disappeared while another server, Casey, was left hustling to clear tables, seat guests, take orders) our server impatiently told us it would be a second because their computers were down. Casey was very apologetic and overall much better at handling the situation but we were baffled as to how there was no back up in place for the situation. After 45 minutes of waiting for a check we were finally told to not worry about it as we were at that point running late to catch a flight. The food overall was pretty good, though I wish there was a bit less parmesan on the garlic fries and that the cheese on the burgers was melted a bit more. Upon reading other reviews about service issues, I don't think I would recommend this restaurant to anyone given the plentiful alternatives in the area. Casey seemed to be doing an excellent job but they clearly could have used an additional server.

Stopped in for the basic burger & beer. Outstanding selection of draught IPA's and the burger was great. Service was excellent, manager checked on us twice. I live over 100 miles away. Will definitely be back.

Traffic across the bridge was terrible so decide to wait for traffic to improve so we searched out a new place to be at and found Big Four Burgers. Good call as we both thought the burgers were great. I had the Turkey Brie Cranberry and the Mrs. had this Breakfast Burger. I especially liked the Sweet Potato Fries. They also had a nice selection of beer on tap. Definitely will return.

Great fries. Good burgers. Poor service. Expensive. I don't see why there are two of these places in southern Indiana. I'll eat here again but the customer service is seriously lacking. We sat down for dinner and were passed up by 3 separate servers (twice by each), 1 manager, and 1 hostess. We ended up standing up and leaving. I've eaten here a number of times and unless the place is empty, expect to be ignored. If you have kids, you are totally getting ignored. The staff will target the beer drinking crowd more so than the family looking for a good meal. Beer is easier to serve than a table of four with kids. I hope they figure things out. Too expensive, average burgers, and great fries. If you are looking for beers and fries..this is your place. If you want a meal...go elsewhere. Robert

I was nervous to eat here based on the reviews about the bad service. Seems that many of you experienced the same thing, but on this particular trip I have to say service was great. Also, the 25% off appetizer with a check in is definitely worth it. I ordered the pretzel sticks and they were very good. For my burger I got the Harold Baines burger with the garlic fries. I ask for it medium well and received exactly that way. The burger was very good and the fries were some of the best I've ever had. This was an all around good visit and I'll be back in the future.

Awww, I had such high hopes for this place. Another Yelper had sung its accolades, so I was jazzed when she said it may be better than some of the Louisville places. In a word: nope, in my opinion. It's no Mussel and Burger Bar, for a few reasons. First off, our beers were late and our server had to be reminded to grab us some waters. I can overlook that, especially on a nice Friday evening when the restaurant is hoppin'. However, I started to notice the inevitable: no one was getting their orders. A long 45 minute wait later, we received our burgers...which were semi-warm. (The pepper jack cheese on my Henry Bains Burger was not even melted completely). My sweet potato fries were almost cold. I'm not that type of diner to send food back on a busy night, so I just powered through the meal. The burger itself was tasty, but the quality of the meat wasn't as high as I am used to. My husband had the same experience with his Classic--semi-warm fries and semi-warm burger. We were both quite underwhelmed. The server made multiple apologies for the long wait, and it seemed that she was overextended. It was just that perfectly disappointing storm of an unorganized kitchen, overextended waitstaff, and lack of attention to detail. The prices are about $3-4 less per meal than Mussel and Burger Bar, but honestly, the quality of the burger was noticeable. I'd much rather visit one of the gourmet Louisville burger spots and pay more with noticeable quality. On the plus side for Big Four, the patio is beautiful. We loved sitting outside, though the inside has stunning exposed brick and a cozy atmosphere. The beer list is pretty comprehensive (a must for me), with options spanning from Lagunitas to Three Floyd's. The beer prices are reasonable, with most pints ranging from $5-6. I really wanted to cheer for Big Four, being from this side of the river, but I think we'll pass on being back.

Good food, but they were out of the first 7 beers we ordered. She we ordered she would leave come back with a "sorry we don't have that". Once twice, but 7 times?

Good beer selection but mediocre burgers. Service has never been on top of it for the multiple times I've been here. I've even had a pick up order incorrect. Last night they forgot my wife's burger. Sure we had a group of 13 and it was a busy night in the area, but they should be prepared. They ran out of bud light and blue moon. The pretzel bread tastes terrible and old.

Went here to get a view of the river with dinner. Sat on the 2nd floor patio. They have a lot of steps and areas for your group to be together. My group consisted of 2 and we had the whole patio to ourselves. Server was sweating...it was humid...he still had a good attitude. I took that and him going up and down the stairs to serve us into consideration when it came to the tip. He earned it. I chose the cranberry Brie turkey burger and garlic fries. It tasted ok.

My boyfriend and I came here after a local recommended giving it a shot. Immediately after walking in we noticed a pungent, dirty smell. The hostess was very abrupt and not exactly the welcoming persona one would expect. Honestly, the smell alone should have been enough of a red flag for us. Once we were seated upstairs our waitress promptly took our drink order. While waiting for our drinks, we noticed the floors were in serious need of cleaning and the chairs were ripped and dingy. My boyfriend went to the restroom and said it was disgusting and it smelled like fermented urine. They say the bathroom reflects the kitchen, right? Seriously, at this point we should have left. I got the grilled chicken sandwich and it was very flavorful. The chicken was a bit too overlooked and chewy but still pretty tasty. My boyfriend (who has never met a hamburger he didn't like) couldn't finish his queso burger. At first he thought the pickled jalapeños gave the burger a funky flavor but after picking those off he continued eating it and had to stop. He then smelled the guacamole and found the culprit. We're pretty sure it had expired. When our check was dropped off we told them about the bad guacamole. After we paid they told us the manager was informed. All in all, the service and expediency of our visit was pretty great but the food and cleanliness of the restaurant is what will keep us away for good.

Good burgers! I got the breakfast burger without the syrup. Bought two draft pints. The burgers were excellent. The down side is the beers. One the glasses were not pint size second I paid $14 for two draft beers. That's crazy to charge that much and the process were not listed I the beer menu. So I would go back but I'm drinking water....

What is going on with this place? The food is fantastic and the beer selection is great. However,my favorite hangout is slipping fast because the staff is terrible. About 3 months ago I stopped in at about 3 in the afternoon killing some time. I was harassed by a shirtless, ridiculously intoxicated man and the bartender said nothing until I commented. Tonight I stopped in for dinner and the staff was a mess. As soon as I came in they lost a party of 13 because they wouldn't accommodate them on the deck. The bartender was not the most polite and there were two people behind the bar just looking around while we sat here with empty water glasses waiting for our checks. Also, both lite domestics were unavailable. They also talked about customer drama in front of us and left w2s on the bar right in front of us. I love this place because of the food but the owner needs to get his staff under control. I would hate to see this place go under because of that.

Not a burger fan, not a fry fan, but the far the best burger and fries I have ever had. Make sure to try the Turkey, Brie, and Cranberry with garlic fries. Delicious!

We came in after we caught a whiff of their food from the streets. We got the Henry Baines burger with House Made Skin On Fries and the Breakfast burger with the Garlic Fries. Both were very tasty, cooked just like we asked. The burgers were juicy, soft, and had a unique combination of flavors in each bite. The fries were well seasoned and crunchy on the outside, yet soft on the inside. We also had the chocolate milkshake; it came in a mason jar, and it was delicious and topped with a good helping of whip cream. Atmosphere was laid-back and made itself open to a wide crowd. I saw families, young people, and the elderly enjoying themselves, so I was impressed to this see this wide age range. Also, the staff was very nice. They even asked if we wanted the rest of our milkshake in a to-go-cup! I would definitely come back.

I have been here several times, and enjoyed it every time. I have only ordered apps everytime I go though, which are all delicious. Especially their cheese fries.. The only complaint I have is that their "mini" tacos in the app section aren't mini anymore. And that is what I loved about them. Less messy and more easy to eat when they were mini size. I love the food, the view, and the brew!!!!

Came for lunch on Saturday and there was no wait, so that was great! I had the turkey burger with cranberry and brie and it was okay. I guess I'm not as much of a brie fan as I thought. My husband had the California burger and my dad built his own and both were pretty tasty! We also split garlic fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings and I can't decide which I liked the most. Total for all of that plus 2 beers was $43, so the price is right. My dad said he actually preferred this to Mussel and Burger Bar, but again, I was let down by my sandwich. I will for sure visit again and try a different burger because I'm sure I'll find something I love. It will be a nice spot during the summer and when the Big Four bridge is opened on both ends!

I have been here probably 10 times since discovering it a little over a year ago. The food was spot on as usual but it seems they have had a pretty large staff turn over since my last visit. We just split a couple of appetizers this time and were surprised that the table next to us who was seated well after us received their full meal before we got our food. Also, their salads didn't come out before their food like they ordered. The host mentioned that it was his fourth day and didn't know the drink options. Also, they didn't take my 25% off an appetizer check-in deal off the bill. He didn't make me mark it redeemed either so I guess I will try to use it next time. I am hoping this was a bad night and not a trend.

We went to Big Four today for the first time. The service was good and the food was even better. We started off with pretzels sticks, which were great especially with honey Dijon mustard and beer cheese dipping sauces it came with; it could easily 2-4 ppl. We tried two burgers: the California Burger and Breakfast Burger. Both were exceptional with the California burger much lighter than the savory egg, bacon, and garlic aioli topped breakfast burger. We will definitely be going back when we're on a cheat day.

I'm normally a little forgiving on my reviews but this place is like the perfect storm! From the time I walked in the door it was chaos. The server (as he pours a beer behind the bar) tells me that the bartender comes in at 4:00. It was 4:10. He says I can sit downstairs. Ok. He gives me a menu and never comes back. 10 minutes later he shouts across the room "you can go upstairs now, it's probably faster service". Ok. So I go up to the bar again and the bartender clearly could care less about being there. I order a medium burger and it came out extra well done! Ok. I ate it anyway and the flavor was good which is why I am giving them one star. The bar needs to be seriously cleaned!!!! Condiments are all empty! I'm not even going to say anything more because it's still going down hill. I just want my check so I can leave!!!

One tip: Call in a to-go order. The food is so good. My fiance and I love the beer cheese, and the burgers are excellent. But don't go unless you have several hours of free time. It will take you well over an hour, probably closer to two or more. My first visit here I loved it. In and out very quickly, excellent food. The second time, I got my fiance to come check it out after raving about it for months. After trouble getting seated and mass confusion, we finally had a table. Drinks and appetizer came quick, but the server forgot to put our burger order in and people were leaving who'd been sitting for a good half hour with no service. In the end, we were there 2 1/2-3 hours and just wanted our check so we could leave. We resorted to asking any employee we could find. We decided to give it one more shot 2/7/15 and sat for 20+ minutes without ever anyone speaking to us so we went ahead and left. If they had even said "hey, sorry we're busy, well get your drink orders as soon as we can" we would have been willing to wait.

Shana K. raved about this place to me, so last night we met up for dinner. It punched my diet in the face, but it was worth it! And heaven knows I'm not going to get a salad and water at a place who's name includes "burgers & beer". There is a check in offer for 25% off an appetizer. I took advantage of that when our waiter Isaac suggested the pretzels with cheese and honey mustard (the honey mustard sauce was fantastic!) Shana built her own burger, but I decided to indulge and got the Bacon Encrusted Bleu Burger. The burger is HUGE. And interesting, with the pimento spread on it. I don't think I would really call it "bacon encrusted"....but I am not one to complain as long as bacon is involved! Dinner was delicious and Isaac was on point with the service. It looks like they have a great patio area. Now if the Big Four Bridge could hurry up and get their shiz together and finished, it would be much less of a hassle to get to Jeffersonville to enjoy the restaurants and cute downtown area!

I've been here several times since they opened. This is the only time I was really disappointed. Went on Sunday evening and was surprised that they weren't very busy, although there was a steamboat festival going on. The weather was nice so we asked to sit out on the deck. I realize these space attract smokers, and we don't smoke. That being said, I didn't see any ashtrays or any other method of getting rid of cigarette butts, which were everywhere on the floor. We were sat at a table that was surrounded by butts...so gross! I can't imagine that the staff walk past this mess many times per hour and couldn't bother to sweep. It's ridiculous. The food also seems to have slipped a bit. The flavor was good, but my burger wasn't exactly hot. When our server brought a pitcher to refill our soft drinks, some of it ran down onto the table. She simply laid a few napkins over it as if she didn't see the spill. Really? I'm noticing a little complacence here. Very rarely do I give a rough review. However, I just couldn't let this go. Sorry guys. There's just no excuse.

This place is not equipped to handle anything above a party of four. Our party of 8 and another party of 6 were told to wait until several 2 tops got done because they didn't want to open the upstairs or patio. Took our business elsewhere.

I eat out a lot but this is my first yelp review. I'm thinking my dining experience is not unique from the other reviews. I wish I had read them first. Bad service. Bad food. Very overpriced. Server I had was new and didn't know the menu when I asked pretty basic questions. Obviously they don't train their staff okay... Food wasn't very good. Everything on their menu is something you can find someplace else, but for like five bucks cheaper. I won't even go into the details about my visit, you can just tell this place isn't cared for. We were there for like two hours and didn't see any management the entire time.

Ate here today (first visit to the area) and upon suggestion of a local, we walked across the bridge and ate at Big Four. We really enjoyed our burgers, fries, and a salad. Our burgers -build your own- came out as we had ordered, and the server was a lot of fun. Service a tad slow for the the almost empty restaurant, but aside from that, 2 thumbs up!

  • Kevin W.

I actually enjoyed this place despite itself. It's got a great look and the outdoor deck upstairs is really nice. The food is also really good. So why only 3 stars? The service. While our server was great, we were witness to a couple things that made us cringe. First the hostess forgot the drink prices. Then a couple came in that had made reservations an hour in advance then walked from Louisville be told when they arrived it wasn't in. Then lastly a couple behind us sat at their table so long without service they got up to leave. Suggestion? Everyone looked really young which isn't bad but maybe have some senior staff members sprinkled throughout to help?

Lately, I've found that I have a considerable amount of free time. Unfortunately, I can't necessarily use all that free time to check out all my bookmarked foodie spots or I'd likely be (1) broke and (2) as big as a house. However, when Big Four Burgers opened, I immediately bookmarked it and when I happened to be near the area one afternoon, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Sitting along Spring Street about a block off the Overlook in Jeffersonville, IN, and of course, not far from the uncompleted Big Four walking bridge, Big Four Burgers + Beer is a delightfully hipsterish, multi-story, pub-style building, multi-tiered decks on the right side of the building and a dining section that's closed until the evening, the casual lunch side is apportioned in wood and brick, decorated with faux antique metal signs and a bar in the back. Lunch orders are placed at the counter, a la Five Guys and Smashburger, but the queue area is limited so I can see that it could back up quickly during the noon hour, but I was lucky enough to arrive at the tail end of the lunch crowd, placed my order quickly and picked a table in the middle of the room. My order, the Cranberry Turkey Burger + Sweet Potato Fries, arrived quickly and I dived right in. The burger was delicious. Surprisingly juicy for turkey, the soft, creamy brie gave it the fat element something like turkey needs. The cranberry relish was sweet but not overpowering. And the crinkle cut sweet potato fries were a perfect side. I think if I were to order the same again though, I might add bacon or some crunchy pickles to the sandwich for a little more bite. Service was on par and friendly, my one minus would be to clean the backsplash on the Coke machine, so not a big minus at all. I'll go back, because the food is yum. Unfortunately, once the walking bridge is fully complete, the line may start on the Louisville side.

We enjoyed our dinner here tonight. My daughter's burger took a while to come out so they gave her fries on the house which I thought was very nice. A great craft beer selection and Bourbon selection. I'm not sure I like the idea of having to order at the counter when you walk in. I prefer sitting down first and having time to browse the menu. Also, the menu on the wall behind the counter is what you have to look at and by the time you have something in mind they tell you that is only the lunch menu and get handed a different menu. I will definitely go back, but I will know in advance what to order so I don't feel rushed to make a quick decision as soon as I walk in. Edit: I just found out there was also an upstairs that has the dining area where you are actually waited on. My apologies for missing that the first time around. Look forward to visiting again!

Overall pretty good. Service is very friendly and accommodating. The fries are delicious. Some interesting burger choices. I had the queso burger. All of the fixings were great and went well together but the meat itself could've been seasoned more. Food presentation is nice on trays and drinks served in Ball jars.

1st. Burgers were good. However it was an awkward experience for us. Place seemed empty but the servers seemed busy. Not sure why. For a Friday night this place was not crowded at all. Hostess finally sat us and happened to also be our server. I thought it was weird he asked the people who came in after us if they wanted to sit down stairs or upstairs. He never asked us if we wanted to go upstairs or not. Turns out there is a bar upstairs and a band. sucked, we kinda wanted a few beers and would have been pretty cool if we were offered to sit upstairs. almost left to walk down the road to red yeti but the wife wouldn't let me. Took a while for the hostess/server to get our order. Finally ordered. Food is what kept me from rating only one star. The atmosphere was just different and didn't have a burger and beer feel. Felt like a diner. Probably would have rated higher if we were offered to go upstairs. I'm sure it would have been an enjoyable evening.

Great spot on the river in a great building. The food was just OK. The biggest problem was the wait. It took us nearly 15 minutes to just get a beer. Not good. The food was pretty good, but not good enough to overcome all of the waiting.

We ate here Sunday at noon. New albany location Had high expectations. Was somewhat disappointed. I had big four burger which was ok. Bun was cold and not really soft. Would have tasted so much better with toasted soft bun. Wife got turkey burger which was very thin and cranberry overwhelmed the taste. Bun also cold. Onion rings were best part of meal. They were crispy and hot. Beer was 6 bucks.... Recockulous. Service was ok at best Asked for extra napkins. Never got them. Waitress refilled my drink as we were leaving Also sitting outside is nice thought but it is very loud. Especially motorcycles who seemed to feel need to rev engine in front of restaurant. Anyway may try again but probably not.

Nothing to write home about. I've dined here twice and have been moderately pleased with my meal both times. I've had the cheesesteak and the hot brown burger. Others I've eaten with have been much more pleased with their traditional burger choices. Service is fair, drink list was lacking on second visit (which was a shame because the bourbon cocktail I had on my first visit was great). I wouldn't return unless it was someone else's choice.

I came in this past Friday with my husband, his parents and my stepson. The grandparents were already seated so we walked in and sat right down at 7pm. The server was a bit slow to get our drink order and to bring them over. No one ordered alcohol so it shouldn't have taken long. When she did take our order she was very kind and knowledgable. Then we waited. We realized they were busy and it was Friday night, but our server never came back and our drinks sat empty. After an hour our server walked over and said she couldn't believe no one brought our food yet and she would check. She quickly came back and said the kitchen lost our ticket but that they were making our food now. When our burgers came they were great. I had the build your own with a veggie pattie and pretzel bun. The pattie came from Sysco or a company like it. But it was still really good. This place has great potential. But it's obvious they need staff training. My husband and I have both worked in restaurants for years. It seemed pretty obvious to us they have. Young staff who don't really know what they're doing. We will come back, but if we wait more than 20 minutes we won't sit around and wait this time.

A friend and I came here he got the classic burger and said it was good I got the cranberry turkey burger while it was good I got the garlic fries and they were the best fries I could come back just for those alone

I really wanted to like this place but the food and service just don't cut it. I tried them once before, not long after they opened. It was not a good experience but hoped it was because they were new. I stopped in tonight with a friend to find a pleasant environment but little else to warrant a return. I won't comment on the service since our server had just started and was still trying to figure out what to do. Note to owner: new servers should never be left to fend for themselves. Always have them shadow an experienced server for a few days. We ordered the pretzel appetizer which arrived after ten minutes or so. It was just ok. I think the pretzels had been fried. For dinner, I ordered the Henry Bains Burger, cooked medium, and fries. At $13, I expected a spectacular burger. What I got was an over cooked hockey puck of a burger with no distinguishable taste. The fries were soggy in the middle, suggesting they were frozen. I won't go back but wish them well. Sooner or later, someone who knows how to consistently cook good food will open a restaurant in downtown Jeff. They will put all these pretenders out of business.

It's really really good but I spent 50$ on two burgers and two appetizers for lunch? Pricey for lunch but good food!

Quick service, great beer list and very very tasty fries and burgers. I got the Baines burger and it was terrific. The garlic fries are where it's at.

With the recent addition of Big Four Burgers & Beer, Jeffersonville finally has a pub and burger restaurant worth bragging about. We ate on the first floor which is a fast casual setup. The decor was a mix of polished woods juxtaposed against stainless steel. The effect was reminiscent of a British pub. The very friendly staff told us that the second floor also opens as a full-service dining room for dinner. While burgers is clearly their focus, this restaurant is very friendly for non-beef eaters. I personally thought that their cranberry turkey burger was one of the best that I have ever had. It came dressed with a cranberry relish and a garlic aioli. The ground turkey tasted fresh and was a refreshing change from the frozen turkey patties that so many restaurants serve. I noticed that they also offer veggie burgers and chicken breasts. My boyfriend did try their beef patty and he thought it was delicious as well. I also tried their garlic fries which were flavorful without being overwhelming. I noticed that they allow patrons to build their own burger and that the toppings options are very extensive. I plan to go back soon to try dreaming up my own outrageous burger combination.

My only experience is trying to place a carry out order. The woman on the other line was rude. The menu online is apparently out of date. When I asked for a lettuce wrap I was told they didn't offer that anymore. Really? Your cooks can't use pieces of lettuce to encircle a burger? No apology for the inconvenience, no alternative suggestion, just a curt "They changed the menu." The prices online are also out of date, as the order ended up costing quite a bit more than I tallied. After the shock of hearing $35 for two burgers and a serving of fries I promptly cancelled. Maybe someone with better business sense will take over and make the customer service, and prices, more palatable.

I've been here before to drink before but have never had a chance to try the food here. While wandering around the now newly renovated downtown Jeff area, I decided to stop in here with a friend for a bite to eat. We both ordered garlic fries, which were delicious and I recommend trying. I order a turkey burger which came out on a delicious bun with a cranberry spread and Brie cheese. The turkey burger was alright. I think the next time I decide to stop in, I'm going to try one of the actual burgers. Possibly the Julius burger which is named after the father of of friend who is running for mayor of Jeffersonville. If you order that particular burger they donate a part of the proceeds to charity. The back patio that we sat on was a great view of the walking bridge. The sun was setting and the lights on the bridge looked amazing that night. Big Four is worth stopping in grabbing a drink and trying out the food. Downtown Jeff needs to keep opening local business like this and I'm excited to see what downtown Jeff will look like in the upcoming years.

Great place to hang out after walking across the pedestrian bridge. Nice atmosphere and decent outdoor eating area. Have a good draft list as well. The pretzel sticks were good. Burgers are great with a bunch of options. Build your own burgers are the best.

We stopped into Big Four Burgers after an event at RiverStage. The food and service were incredible. They were willing to give us a different table away from the music so we could talk and where it was a little cooler. Our server made excellent recommendations for drinks and food, even going to look something up for us. I had the Henry Baines burger with sweet potato fries and it was cooked perfectly. The meal was really excellent and my friends enjoyed their food too. One ordered the cranberry and brie turkey burger and two others ordered the hot brown burger. We shared the soft pretzels. It was all wonderful! Their Moscow Mule was also really great. The prices were reasonable, too. This place is definitely a great place to stop after a walk across the bridge or an event in the area. It's comfortable, fun and has wonderful food.

Went here for dinner upon another triumphant return to my hometown because of what I was reading about it on Facebook. Experiencing it was a disappointment but not a total one. Our food was cooked properly and all liked their burgers. But the meager serving of garlic/parm fries is too small for the money and while we're at it, so is the size of the burger patty. But they were deliciouso. Service is an entirely different issue. SCORE: 0. Our server Tyler came right over to our table to take our drink orders, then disappeared for about 10 minutes. He finally brought water over but still no drinks. I had to call him over at which point he gave me an irritated look. 5 more minutes later he brought our drinks. The two draft beers were basically undrinkable. When we were finally able to get him back to our table again we told him about it and he tried to bring samples of something else but those, too, were flat and warm. That was when he told us there was a problem with the draft beers. SO IF THERE'S A PROBLEM, TELL US UP FRONT AND LET US DECIDE IF WE STILL WANT THEM OR DON'T!!! The bottle beer replacements took even LONGER to get. That was completely unacceptable. Only go here if you are desperate and want to experience really bad service.

The low score is entirely due to the intolerable heat in the dining area upstairs. I went here for the first time as part of a special occasion. Appetizers were ordered but I couldn't fathom eating a full meal in that kind of heat. When I asked for the closest ceiling fan to be turned on, I was told it did not work. I cannot imagine why the management hadn't brought in some fans. The appetizers were good and the waitress was too cute for words. The bartenders could take some lessons from that gal. I felt the drinks were a little expensive but you could taste the alcohol which was a plus. Maybe I will go back in the winter and try the dinner imenu.????

The breakfast burger is the bomb and so are the fries. Each time we have gone has been with a group of 6 or more and the service was pretty bad. Food took forever, drinks weren't refilled, items were forgotten, etc.

I have walked the bridge to Big Four Burgers on the hottest days of the year (not really, but I'm convinced). If that's not love, I don't know what is. It's about a 2 mile walk to Big Four, which takes forever when all you can think about are delicious, juicy burgers. It is so worth the walk in the blazing sun. The first time I ventured over with some friends. It was poppin across the bridge on a Friday evening (outdoor concert, beer tents, etc), but we had our hearts set on burgers! We walked in and had a short wait, even though there were plenty of open tables...(nbd, we'll grab a beer). I did a quick little check in on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised by the 25% off appetizer deal. We were seated downstairs and knew right away which appetizers we wanted; pretzels and beer cheese...duh, and avocado hummus...duh. Seriously my favorite pretzels. The beer cheese is pretty awesome too. I recommend going half-and-half with the beer cheese and mustard, it is a crazy delicious combo. The avocado hummus just couldn't compete though it was still good. Each of us ordered a different burger: Mediterranean, Henry Baines, and blue cheese encrusted (which is not exactly encrusted). They were all so unique and flavorful. My favorite part of the Mediterranean were the roasted peppers. I also took some of the pickled onions from our avocado app and put them on top...yum! The Henry Baines sauce tasted just like it should and didn't over power the burger, sauced just right. Those twho stuck out more than the blue cheese mainly because I don't like blue cheese, but the burger was still juicy and cooked just right. Did I mention the onion rings? OMG they are good, in my opinion better than any of the fries! On our return trip we built our own burger, the topping choices are fab (there are so many different options). The burgers tasted just as good as our first time there & of course we ordered the pretzels...again...we'd be crazy not to! It is a little pricey, but so worth it to get your burger fill. Way to go IN! This place rocks!

Hooray for something good to eat North of the river! With so many few places to find good food, I am so glad we have a nice place to visit for a good beer and burgers. The first time I tried Big Four I was sorely disappointed. I head read some of the great reviews of the place and couldn't understand why my burger wasn't up to par. The patty was overcooked and underseasoned, and the burger was dry. The place was really, REALLY busy this first time, so we chalked it up to being too busy. The one winner of the night was the ...how can I say this..."explosion in your mouth" good pretzel sticks, mustard and beer cheese dipping sauces. I have never eaten an appetizer this good. In fact, if I could create a "the best thing I ever ate" list, this would be on it. We tried Big Four a second time. It wasn't very busy, because we came in late. The live music made it pleasant, the beer was awesome, and our waiter was on top of things. Unlike many other reviews, both times we came the service was good, timely, and the waiter always checked in before we finished our beers. And, most importantly, the food was good. Those pretzel delights...even better than the first time, and my burger (Breakfast burger) was to-die-for. It's rich, with the egg, bacon, and the creamy maple sauce to give it that sweet and salty combination. Probably the best breakfast burger I've had in a long time. So, keep it up, Big Four. We'll be back. We just wish the first time could've blown our minds like we thought it would.

Like other bad reviews, this one focuses primarily on service. It was a really gorgeous day, and our group of 5 asked if we could sit on one of the upper decks. We were seated at a cheap glass table, and for seating, they expected us to sit on literally two planks of wood. We moved promptly to a table with actual chairs, and were greeted by a waitress who took our drink orders. Everyone ordered water except for myself (iced tea) and my boyfriend also ordered a Bulleit bourbon, which the waitress hadn't heard of. Ten minutes passed, and the waitress came back without our drinks, and told my boyfriend the bar didn't have Bulleit. He ordered a Jim Beam instead. The waitress came back awhile later with 5 waters, no ice tea, and no bourbon. The waitress came back quite a bit later with my boyfriend's drink and explained that it was Bulleit after all. It was at this point that she took our lunch orders, 2 sandwiches, 3 burgers, a side salad, and cheese fries. After about 45 minutes of waiting, a waiter of another table passed every table around us holding our side salad, but failed to deliver it to our table. The cheese fries also never made it to the table, and when we got our food, it was cold. As far as quality goes, the taste was forgettable and the portions were unmatched to the prices. Also, I should mention that we asked THREE different times for more ketchup, and after fifteen minutes of waiting, someone from our group went and got it himself. Our waitress didn't come back to the table until she handed us the check which means no drink refills or simply to ask if we needed anything else. This restaurant will absolutely waste your time, DON'T BOTHER.

For the love of god do NOT, do NOT, get the philly cheese sandwich!!! If the owner reads this, please remove it from your menu immediately! If this was our 1st visit & we hadn't experienced the deliciousness of the burgers, we wouldn't return based on the nastiness of the Philly. The meat was poor quality, cold & chewy, the cheese was not melted & looked like they just got it out of a kraft bag & threw it on the sandwich! If you got the philly & wrote this place off, get a burger & give it another go. Burgers=A+ Philly= F!!!

So surprised to see reviews mentioning 'friendly' and 'fast' service. We've been here several times and would love to go more, given the location that is perfect for grabbing a bite/beer after a stroll on the Big Four bridge and the good burgers. But the service has been sporadic at best and getting worse. My husband had a long wait and indifferent service when meeting friends for a few drinks a few months ago, as did I with a group of girlfriends for dinner. But I think last night will be our last visit. We were told there would be a 10 minute wait for outside seating for my husband, teenage son and I. After 20 minutes (no big deal) we were taken upstairs and saw a largely empty deck. We hadn't noticed any folks leaving. The inside was largely empty as well. Weird. We then sat for 15 minutes and never saw a server. When my husband went in to inquire about a server, he was unable to get a bartender's attention. We left and headed over to Ann's Cafeteria across the street, which thankfully was still open. There is no excuse for such poor service. I've heard owner is opening new place in New Albany. Maybe stretching himself too thin? Whatever. We won't be back.

Saturday night w friends. 6 of us. Upstairs near the pool table and bar and across the way a band is playing. Was a little difficult to converse at times. Very different atmosphere upstairs from downstairs. One person in our party had the chicken salad the rest of us had burgers. They were ok. The queso burger was a hit as was the Harry Banes burger. You are able to order w/out the bun if you are counting carbs. Side salad is also available instead of fries. Appetizers we had at the table were the pretzels w cheese. Looked delicious didn't actually try it. I did try the hot blue pimento cheese dip. Not too bad very heavy w blue cheese so be careful. Can only eat a very small amount. Apps felt a little pricy but the burgers were 9-15 w a side. Service was great! Beer list was awesome. Full bar available. Didn't try desserts. Very casual place. Will go again but because we have some pretty amazing burger places in Louisville it will be a special reason.

I could not have been more impressed with this place or the service my group received! Last night on 12/6/14 we had a going away party for 6 of my coworkers and about 40 people showed up to wish them farewell. The sever we had went above and beyond. She kept our glasses full and beers\bourbon coming. The food was absolutely amazing, came out fast and was on point exactly how each person ordered. There is another burger place in Louisville that held the number one spot for me until last night and this has stolen that #1 spot in my opinion.... Between the service and the quality of the food for the price it just can't be beat. Keep up the good work!

We ate here after a bike ride on the Louisville loop and big four - food was pretty good, especially the garlic fries. Our service was a bit slow as others have said. It seemed to take longer than it should've to get our food or have order taken, when it wasn't very crowded or busy at all- maybe this happens if you sit outside? Seems slightly overpriced for what you get.

Had the eggs-lent burger and it was excellent. Garlic fries and a 3 Floyd's brew were the perfect companions. It's a great place if you are looking for a locally owned, low stress place with a super beer menu.

Atmosphere was nice but was warm inside. We sat in the ground floor area. Food was very good. Hot and done to everyone's liking. We had a 14 person group so they brought dishes out as they were done which was nice so nothing was cold. Beginning side salad distribution was a little confusing buy we all muddles through it. The only reason for 4 stars was bathroom was not so great. Neither tp or hand towels in dispensers and needed air freshener.

My son and I walked across the bridge from Louisville on a lovely day; we'd heard great things about this place so had already planned to have lunch there. We left very impressed! Friendly staff, fast service and a great 2 story deck with partial views of the bridge. The burgers were awesome - super juicy and perfectly cooked. My son's kids meal burger was large and ( with the extra bacon we added to it) he declared it "the best burger ever! " My Bleu Cheese special burger was great too. We will definitely plan a repeat visit!

run! don't stop!!! worst servers in town. we sat for 25 minutes waiting for our drinks. we ordered appetizers, and waited and waited. we had a bet, which would come first our entree, appetizers, or drinks. neither! my patiences only goes up to 25 minutes, after that i'm gone! i found the place on yelp and sounded good. i highly recommend not to come here. when we were leaving the hostes did not even care. she looked at us and just smiled. she made no attemp to talk to us, she looked up, smiled, and continued texting. wow! never again. I cannot believe this place has positive reviews, they MUST be family or employees. Lol!

For lunch, I had the specialty burger named "Big Bleu" (blue cheese, bacon, etc.) and when it arrived, I thought that I'd finish half, or maybe two thirds. Yeah right. After the first bite, I succumbed to the part of my brain that emits and processes dopamine and finished it. It was quite delicious and the house battered onion rings are the bomb. Throw in a great beer selection, nice atmosphere and a genuinely friendly staff and you have one fine burger and beer joint. BTW; For lunch, you pay beforehand via their Leaf POS system leaf.me . It threw me off as I had never seen one before, so I didn't notice the tip field and didn't leave one on the initial transaction. (I did make up for it when I ordered my second beer) If you go here, you would be doing yourself a favor.

Big Four Burgers is located in downtown Jeffersonville, IN on Spring Street just north of the Ohio River. The restaurant is the former Third Base Bar. The inside has been nicely renovated and has the feel of a burger place. They offer burger combos with American cheese, blue cheese and bacon etc. or you can build your own. There is a nice selection of draft beers from IPAs to porters. My burger was cooked as ordered. The ground chuck was very tasty. I ordered regular french fries, they also offer sweet potato fries and garlic fries. The fries were hand cut, but they were greasy and limp. I was there shortly after they opened, I believe the French fry oil was not hot enough, so the fries were not crisp. I will definitely return to Big Four Burgers and hope for better fries next trip.

This is by far the best place to get a burger on the Indiana side of the Louisville Metro!!! I also believe it is a very strong contender in regards to Burgers in Louisville. Louisville Magazine ran article recently where a writer went to around 30-35 restaurants to check out the Burgers. He made a list of the top Burgers in Louisville. This was before this restaurant opened. I'm pretty confident had this place been open the list would have changed. While I haven't been to all the Restaurant's on his list. This Burger literally destroyed one of his Top 5, I haven't been to the others in the top 5 yet, so I can't say how this would fair, but I don't think this place would have a hard time competing. Aside from the usual suspects of Burger toppings, they have a wide selection of outside the box toppings to choose from... Some of the more interesting options are Bleu Cheese Pimento Spread, Chorizo Queso, Sprouts, Pickled Onions, Remoulade Sauce, Brie Cheese, Herbed Goat Cheese. As far as Fries are concern, they are right up there with the Burgers. Appear to be Fresh cut and cooked really well. The Sweet Potato fries were crazy good. I'm a person that isn't a big fan of sweet potatoes, but I have feeling that most people like myself after eating these with the house-made dipping sauce will change their mind. Unfortunately I overlooked the garlic fries on the menu, I'm going to get those next time. They had garlic, butter, Parmesan and parsley... I can't wait to try them :-) They have other stuff aside from burgers, which I haven't had... if what I had is any indication to the quality and taste, I'm sure all of it is great!

My wife, another couple and our 14 month old had dinner here a few nights ago. We made an adventure out of it and walked from Waterfront Park across the Big Four Bridge to here. The consensus of the group was positive all around. Personally speaking, my queso burger was awesome. I'm not a beer drinker, but my wife and friends are and they seemed pretty happy with the beers available. Although Yelp says that $11 to $30 a person is moderate, I felt it was a little pricey for a burger place. But I would definitely go back.

I had a burger with bacon & pimento cheese and it was so good I forgot to take a picture. My sweet potato dries came with cinnamon honey (amazing) My friends said service can be spotty but our waitress was prompt & helpful - it's a 13$ burger but it is tastey.

I got the queso burger and fries and a couple of angry orchard. Was nice out on the deck. The music is loud enough to hear, but not too loud to be able to talk. The service was great, our waitress was all over it, fast and accurate. Love this place.

I was there yesterday for the first time and I will not be going back. I had the Mediterranean Burger, and when it came out the bun was so soggy I couldn't even eat it. Also I ordered it medium well and it was closer to medium. For the price ($16 for a burger, fries, and a Diet Coke) this place is just not worth it. I will just stick with Mussel and Burger Bar.

Walked across the bridge today with family to try this place out..was pumped! We walked in and were ignored for 10 minutes (have a 2yr old) so we just sat down. Eventually someone grabbed our drink order (last time I would get a refill). Others were being ignored as they walked in so we watched numerous couples get up and leave. Finally our order was taken and after an hour, my wife and I both received our burgers and sweet potato fries. Fries were cold, however, I didn't want to ask for help because it would have probably taken a 1/2 hour to get warm ones at the rate service was being handed out. The burger was good, however, if you gave me an hour on the grill to make a cheese burger, mine would compare! Asked for 2 $5 milkshakes and it took another 20 mins to make...milk shakes were very runny and average and by that time having logged almost an hour and a 1/2 to get service, my 2 yr olds patience was shot. Would never go back! Only giving 2 stars because the burger I ate was good but not worth the poor/rude service!!

A group of six of us walked across the bridge after the Waterfront Challenge last weekend. They seated us even though it looked like it was about to close. The service was a little slow getting refills. I tried the queso burger which was pretty good. I would the overall experience from our group was good. We will try them again. I want to try thr turkey burger.

Good if you are not looking for a chain. Good food but they need to work on the service. Order at the counter and find a table. Good beer selection but if you want a second, you need to get up and order another at the counter.

I've been to this restaurant three times now and last night will be my last. The staff is unprofessional and doesn't move with any sense of urgency. For a place that serves mainly hamburgers its ridiculous to take 40 minutes to get our food. Furthermore, if your service is going to be slow you can at least have your servers checking tables to refill drinks every 5-10 minutes instead of taking our order and becoming non existent. I brought a large party here for a birthday dinner and I'm embarrassed that I chose big four.

Lunchtime was hopping when we went in to order. At lunch you place your order at the register, grab a number and find any table, self-serve your drinks from the beverage station and wait for your food to be brought out. Our wait wasn't long, and our Build Your Own burgers were fresh, warm, and impressive. The Big Four specialty sauce tastes exactly like the special sauce at McDonald's, and the garlic aioli is wonderfully rich. The house-made buns are definitely a highlight. I had the sweet potato fries with maple syrup dipping sauce and they're so tasty, though the sweetness of the sauce does get to you after awhile so I switched to ketchup midway through the portion of fries. The beer selection is awesome as well.

This place has potential. The service we received was horrendous, but the manager noticed and stepped up without being prompted to. The food was great but the apps came out with the entree. Lastly, it still feels a bit like 3rd base. It really needs a good scrubbing and a few updates (paint, new doors that actually close, and the bathrooms feel like a bar). Again, it really needs a good cleaning by a professional service.

I've been watching this restaurant go through an amazing transition over the last 3-4 months. To step into the first floor and be taken aback by the aroma of good food was a very pleasant experience. The owner of the establishment paid a great deal of detail to the building uniqueness during the restoration, says a lot about how they have laid the groundwork for this restaurant. Upon making my order after reviewing the menu for 20 minutes we decided on the veggie burger with fries, encrusted black and bleu burger with garlic fries and pretzel sticks...wanted to order everything on the menu but decided to keep it minimal so we can have an excuse to keep going back. The burger was fantastic, bleu cheese was just right and the bun was soft and fresh. The meat was cooked to my request and the pimento cheese spread as the condiment knocked it out of the park! Veggie burger was cooked correctly and my wife liked it a lot. The pretzel sticks with cheese and mustard were fantastic. It was nice seeing a crowded restaurant and the servers all working to make sure everyone was taken care of; the owner was even working by filling drinks, talking with customers and supporting his staff. We will be back many times over. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great burger and food at a fair local price. Definitely a win for the community, owner and all of B4B patrons.

Burgers were excellent. Went with group of 11 and had a wide array of choices and all were very happy with choices. Onion rings, garlic fries were also great. Service was bare bones. Kid at register had to leave to get food AND beer orders.......but beer selection was very good . Great place to grab a lunch or dinner after doing a bridge walk. Two families give it big thumbs up. More help for register kid would greatly improve things because the two families had to eat at separate times due to delay of orders being taken up front.

We had a great lunch today at Big Four Burgers. I had the big four classic with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was excellent, very flavorful and juicy. The fries are fresh cut, not frozen and were excellent along with the dipping sauce provided. My mother tried veggie burger which she said was fantastic and not soy based according to the lady who took our order. Staff was very friendly and helpful explaining their menu. Looking forward to trying other items on the menu including the Greek salad and pretzel stick appetizer. Decor was very rustic, wooden benches and tables and mason jar light fixtures.

The quality of the burgers is pretty damn good, but what really bothers me is that it claims to be a beer place and the draft selection is SERIOUSLY lacking. Ideally they would have 20+ drafts of craft beer like rocky's and buckhead just down the street. I enjoy the food, but every time I go back I hope that they've stepped up the beer game, which they never do.

Ate there tonight for the first time - most likely the last. Service stunk. Ordered chicken strips from kid's menu for four year old. They were too spicy to eat, but our waitress never came around to check. When I asked for the bill and told her about it she simply said, "They shouldn't be on the kid's menu." Um, the kid left hungry and we paid a good deal for dinner. The confusion in the dining room was amazingly bad. A waiter who filled in for our waitress kept coming to the wrong table - to us for their beer, to them with our order...more than once. Husband ordered the Big Four Classic (I think that's the name) and said it was burned and no better than anything he could cook at home. I know he won't go back. I ordered the bacon encrusted bleu cheese burger. Medium well. It was well done, but tasty. The cons outweighed the pros, however, and we will not likely try it again. We tipped well, but should have left no tip at all. Really bad (though friendly) service.

Cool new burger jt and late nite place in drown Jeff. Desperately needed. Went Sunday afternoon so was pretty chill. Tried the classic. It was classic! Then went with build your own with angus. Both burgers were great! Wait was acceptable. Ordering and payment was simple. Great spot. Wild def rec and will try late nite to check out the atmosphere again.

Burgers nothing to write home about. Service was slow. French fries are ok. Many other places to get a better burger.

Excellent food. Nice to see places like this in Jeffersonville. Great ambiance and friendly staff. Good balconies for outdoor seating.

The River Mule (Moscow Mule with ginger beer) was excellent and cheaper than comparable restaurants' versions. Comes in a copper cup as well.

Great selection of burgers and build your own on the menu. Also a good selection of beer. Garlic fries are awesome! Server was very nice and friendly. Such a great place! So close to the walking bridge.

Went on New Year's Eve based on Yelp reviews. What can I say? Very enjoyable. We started with the pretzel bread sticks and beer cheese with country ham; very tasty! I had the build-a-burger with white cheddar cheese and Henry Bain sauce. My family had the kid's cheeseburger, the Henry Bain burger, and the Build-A-Burger with American cheese and Henry Bain sauce. The burgers were big, juicy, and quite delicious. The sides (fries, in this case) were hot and plentiful. The beer list is about 18 brews on tap and, if you are an IPA fan, now is the time to go! Our server (can't remember her name) was helpful, attentive, and on time with the entrees. For a restaurant that has been open for only about 1 month or so, this was a very good dining experience. The restaurant is set in an older building in downtown Jeffersonville overlooking the Ohio river and divided into two parts: downstairs is fast casual where you order first and then serve yourself to drinks etc. Upstairs, where we dined, is full stairs with sit down service. Can't see where you could go wrong with either. If you are a fan of burgers, beer, or both, this is a must try. Maybe I'll see you there.

We waited awhile before our server came but once she did she checked back regularly. The burgers are big! Food was good. Nice location for those walking the bridge!

My wife and I crossed the Big Four tonight to give this restaurant a try. There were several positives, but the negatives outweighed the good aspects of our visit. First off, as many yelpers have already indicated, the beer was WARM! We ordered IPAs, so in my view this is a cardinal sin. I don't really understand how a restaurant with beer in its name could not properly serve beer. Next we come to the burgers. My wife ordered the veggie burger and described it as a typical manufactured/packaged veggie burger, although the server claimed it was made in house. Average at best. I had the bacon/bleu encrusted burger. I ordered it medium, it came well done. It was pretty good, but nothing to make me cross the bridge purposefully to eat there again. Lastly, the server seemed aloof and uninterested in us being there, making the visit overall quite mediocre. I hope the owners start to pay attention to what everyone is saying in their reviews and actually make some changes. Until then, I will keep my business on the real sunny side of the Ohio.

Was a little disappointed. Burgers were good but nothing special. I could name 4 or 5 places in Louisville with better burgers. I ordered the queso burger. The queso was unappetizing and it was way overpriced at 12.99. Fries were good, service was bad.

Greatly enjoyed our meal! The food was fantastic! The sweet potato fries and garlic fries were really good as well as the burgers! The service is what made the place stand apart! Everyone was terrific! The all had great teamwork and made sure that we were Always pleased! We will be back!

Service was slow as previously noted. Manager apologized and we weren't in a hurry so no big deal. Highly recommend the Henry Baines burger and garlic fries. The four of us got something different and that was the best. Fried chicken was tough and over cooked. Also the country ham was too thick and made the sandwiches hard to eat. Shaved would be better. Loved the pretzels and cheese. Didn't care for the chicken sliders on the appetizer menu. Once again the chicken was tough. Enjoyed walking the bridge and the river stage entertainment. Recommend sitting outside upstairs as it tends to smell like fried chicken inside. We plan to return soon. Love what's going on in jeffersonville. Louisville needs to get a clue.

Very disappointing service. Watched other people who arrive after us get served. Waited over an hour for our food. We were given the excuse that the upstairs was very busy. When we finally got our food it was hurried and not prepared as described on the menu. We were given 50% off but with that kind of service and food not as described we will not be back.

First impression was a great one! Went on a Saturday night and received prompt service with a minimal wait time. Nice atmosphere and a good craft beer selection (think they had 18 or so). Pretzel bread sticks + beer cheese = awesomeness! This with the Triton beer made for good time flavor party. On to the burger...I chose to go with the Mediterranean because of the feta cheese and tzatziki sauce combo. Came out cooked to order and had amazing flavor. It will be hard venture out on the menu from this one, but I think I'm up to the challenge. Would highly recommend Big Four and will certainly be back soon!

My husband and I were trying to find something "different" to do around town. It had been raining for DAYS and we were looking to get outside. We decided to walk the Big Four Bridge in Downtown Louisville. Once we were walking we thought it would be neat to stop and grab a bite to eat on the Indiana side. We came across the bridge and noticed a sign for burgers and cold beer ... so we were in! It is right around the corner from the end of the bridge and SO convenient. When we first walked in I was not impressed. The waiting area is small and cramped and the downstairs dining room was very dungeon like and seemed small. Once our name was called they took us upstairs and I felt like I was in a totally different space. The upstairs is bright, roomy, and much more bar-like (if that is what you are looking for). I love the "oldness" of the building. They have original historic windows, wood floors, and creaky doors. It's great. It's not the neatest or cleanest looking space but if you don't mind the wonky chairs, slightly dusty celing corners, and old bathrooms ... the food is totally worth it. I opted for one of the create-your-own, petite burgers and side of fries. My husband chose the original Big 4 Burger and garlic parmesan fries. THOSE FRIES WERE A SLICE OF DAIRY HEAVEN. The cheese and garlic practically melted the potato in your mouth. As good as they were you couldn't really eat a whole order of them just by themselves so I am glad we opted for the regular fries and mixed them up. The burgers were juicy and cooked perfectly. No matter what you get I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Big 4 Sauce .... I don't know what it is but I had dreams about it. The desserts also looked amazing, along with some pretzel sticks whose pictures made imprints in my brain, but we were just too full (and had quite a walk back). We are looking forward to going back for some live music and drinks very soon!

Had a hair appointment on Spring Street. Was hungry. Saw that Big Four Burgers was on Spring Street. Decided to go. Walked in the front. Asked if I wanted a table or bar. Chose bar. Sat at bar. Nice bar. Good bar. Ordered food. Took advantage of 25% off appetizer. Got cheese curds. Ridiculously good. Burger and fries came. Chose the Henry Baines. Exceptional choice. Fries were average. Paid ticket. Left very satisfied. Quick. Delicious. Reasonable. Good atmosphere. It's a winner.

Big Four Burgers needs to step up their veggie burger game. I ordered the "California Burger," with a veggie patty instead, with a side of garlic fries as a to-go order. I got said burger, with very unripe avocados (if you haven't had them, they're hard and bitter...no es bueno), and just regular fries. If they were supposed to be garlic fries, you could have fooled me. Also, no ketchup or condiments. The veggie patty itself was the most disappointed part: it was 'ye ol' frozen pre-made black bean and corn burger. Just like Morning Star or some similar brand. And I was charged the same price as a high-quality meat patty for THAT! Big Four: Please do your vegetarian patrons a favor and look into some better house-made recipes for your veggie patties. And before you say 'what do you expect, it's a burger joint,' check out how Bru Burger Bar in Lexington is doing veggie burgers right.

Sorry to say but I can no longer give this place a favorable rating after receiving embarrassingly poor service. I had family in from out of town and I wanted to take them to one of my favorite places, but it was nothing like I remembered. Service was very sluggish (and the place was virtually empty), the server knew nothing about the beers on tap (and some of our choices were not available), the beer wasn't cold, and my burger came without meat on it. That's right, my burger was served to me with no beef patty on it. When I let them know, they tried to make the situation lighthearted and laughed about it and I barely got an apology. I got beef patty placed on my dish that I already started eating instead of getting an entire new burger, and it wasn't comped. I didn't ask for it to be - but that should have been obvious. They blamed "new people" on this mistake, but I'm sorry, even if it's your first day and you've spent your entire life chained up in a dungeon, you should know that a beef patty goes on a hamburger. I'm not sure I can ever return to this place. Only reason I give the 2nd star is the food was as good as always.

I had the breakfast burger, it came with egg, bacon and Maple syrup! I had the garlic fries and a side of garlic aioli which was awesome! Everything matched really well together and was really good. The only downfall is that we waited for almost an hour to get a table and from the looks of things there were many open tables when we got there but still had to wait. Our waitress was really nice and the food ended up coming out really fast but the wait was almost too much. The burgers and fries were really good but the wait was you little much... Maybe next time we go we won't go on a weekend :/

Rants and Raves about this place so I guess I had higher expectations. The burger was mediocre at best. Garlic fries were outstanding. The place is a typical bar with a decent view from its patio. Service was not stellar as they were shutting down at the end fo the day. Beer is fabulous so I recommend you come here to drink some of their fantastic brews.

What a disappointment. We went early on a Friday night. The hostesses (2 of them) seemed ambivalent at best, but seated us promptly. Our waitress was with us promptly but after telling her we needed a minute to look at the beer menu she disappeared w/o offering us a water and w/o asking if we wanted an appetizer. She didn't seem particularly pleased to be working and her hair was hanging in her face. She returned after a prolonged absence to take our order. My husband ordered a blue moon. Our waittress dropped a can off at the table without so much as a word. We were left wondering where the glass and the orange slice was. With no waitress in sight my husband began drinking his beer. Approx. 5 minutes later she appeared with a glass and orange slice...with no explanation. As a place that has 'beer' in the name I would expect better service of said beer. We ordered pretzels sticks as an appetizer. They were fried, which is unusual, but not bad though they were void of pretzel salt which was disappointing. Our food arrived w/in a few minutes of our appetizer. My husbands burger (the California) was cooked properly, but the avocado was a very unappealing shade of brown and someone had been overzealous with the lemon (with obviously poor results). My hamburger was ordered medium and was 100% well done. It was still juicy, but the meat lacked a proper brown crust and was generally unflavorful and disappointing. The fries were the high light of the meal. They were wonderful. Aggressively seasoned, piping hot and crispy. We each ate half or less of our burgers. Our waitress asked if we wanted boxes, which we declined, but failed to ask us WHY we had left half our burgers untouched (a big missed opportunity). The table next to us had to get up and ask for napkins twice and they also left half their burgers and declined boxes as well. The air vents in this place were very dusty, the light fixtures needed washed and the place had a general need of a good cleaning. While I wouldn't call it DIRTY I wouldn't call it clean either. There were at least 2 burnt out light bulbs and our table was very wobbly. My husband used the men's room and said it clearly hadn't been checked in a while. The toilet was dirty, there were no hand towels and he said it was exceedingly dark. In all the restaurant has the potential to be a great place, but it just lacked in all categories. The staff needs an overhaul, the food's execution needs to live up to the thoughtful menu's promise and the place needs a good cleaning and a some general maintenance. I wouldn't recommend it and I wouldn't go back anytime in the near future, much to our disappointment.

I've wanted to check out Big Four Burgers & Beer for a while, but I don't really make it over to Indiana much. Or at all. But, given that this spot is so close to the Big Four Bridge we decided to ride our bicycles over and see what it's all about. We were not disappointed! The menu includes plenty of options, so don't worry if you have a friend that's not that into burgers. For this visit we couldn't try everything we wanted, because there was just too much! We opted for a couple of burgers, B got fries, and I went with the house chips. Everything was delicious. I also tried a house cocktail, an apple spritzer, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a very long time. It was super easy to drink (which I only mention because I've found that lots of cocktails are becoming extremely bitter or strong) and extremely refreshing after our bike ride. They have several other cocktails I'm looking forward to trying, along with a couple of appetizers. We're already planning to go over again one evening soon and sit out on the patio enjoying some snacks and drinks. We can't wait!

Maybe it was an odd night... Overall, it was mediocre. We tried quite a few things, and nothing stood out at all to anyone. My hot brown " burger " was almost sent back. I was starving though. Decent tap list. Odd, lethargic service. Soggy fries. Killer pork rinds. Clean establishment. Might be back, maybe... Probably not.

Burgers guaranteed to fill you up! Yes indeed. After checking it out today for Mother's Day with the family I am very pleased with this joint. It's a block or so away from the walking bridge making this ideal for walking bridge regulars like myself or downtown folks. You can cross the bridge from downtown side and get you a big burger or you can drive right up to it if your just ready to get that burger in your tummy haha (did the latter) I tried some tandoori chicken sliders and the avocado hummus. Both came with pita bread. The chicken sliders were grilled and marinated with tzatziki sauce and had feta cheese and roasted tomatoes on the bottom. The avocado hummus was the warm up. The hummus made with avocados and cilantro gave the pita bread a rich taste. The hummus was very thick and felt like eating my own avocados at home. We also had some pork rinds and they were really spicy and crispy as an alternative to house chips. The burgers here are really good, I mean it is their specialty after all haha. I got the big four classic well done burger with lettuce, tomato, onions and dill pickle along with some big tasty fries even though they weren't the garlic fries still just as good. The burger could have been a bit saltier but the rest of the ingredients packed in this mountain of a burger left me very satisfied. The restaurant has lots of seating options. The upper deck and bar is where u wanna go. The breeze from the Ohio river makes the upper deck much more enjoyable, and there's also a third floor deck that you can reserve for parties and such giving you a better view of the river and downtown Louisville. I am very pleased with big four burgers and will be coming back for sure.

This is a place I make a point to come back to any time I'm craving a great burger. The atmosphere is amazing and the local beers are worth it all by themselves. Great for the kiddos to come to as well. Service has always been good and I've never had a complaint.

Sunday afternoon is apparently the perfect time to visit Big Four Burgers & Beer. The service was great and both the hostess and the waitress were personable. The appetizer arrived quickly and the entrees arrived just after we finished the appetizer, so the kitchen timed everything perfectly (though I admit that could have been coincidence). We ordered the tandoori chicken sliders for our appetizer. They were tasty, but maybe just a bit too big to eat without making a mess. I'll try a different appetizer on my next visit. I opted to build-my-own burger and it came just as ordered. The waitress overheard me raving about my love of pickles and took it upon herself to bring me a cup with extras. My date ordered the cranberry and brie turkey burger but asked to substitute beef for turkey; they had no problem complying with his substitution request. I'm a sucker for sweet potato fries. These were delicious and came with a sweet syrupy dipping sauce. The portions are huge and I took at least half of my meal home with me (including fries, which never happens. I always polish off the last fry, even if I'm stuffed, but the portions were so large, I just couldn't do it). Oh! And pineapple ale. It's delicious, y'all. Try it. The location is awesome. It's right by the Big Four Bridge and it was a lovely day and the riverfront was calling to me, "Come over here, Ashley! Take a stroll, Ashley!" Sadly, my date had a broken foot and was in too much pain to walk much (though he was hearing the call, as well). Now for the question everyone asks. Is it as good as Mussel Burger Bar? Okay, so the food isn't quite as good as MBB. But the location is far superior and we didn't have to wait to be seated. So, for me, Big Four Burgers & Beer wins.

I recently went to Big Four Burgers, we tried it because it was close to the Big Four Bridge. The food was good enough, I had the Big Four Classic and enjoyed it, I loved the bun and the sauce on the burger. My husband had the Henry Baines Burger and thought it was good as well. One issue was we both ordered our burgers medium and they came out more well done and dry. The fries were good though. The ok/poor part of the experience was definitely the service. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy but it seemed our waitress just plain forgot about us. It took too long to finally flag down our waitress for our check. I wish we'd gotten the pretzel sticks and the beer cheese, so maybe we'll go back another time but it'll definitely be a while, we've got plenty of other places around to try.

Very good burgers and fries. We had the breakfast burger (so good) and the Henry Baines burger (sauce was really good). I tend to find that burger joints over do it when it comes to making gourmet burgers. These burgers are straight to the point and the bun actually covers the entire burger. The garlic fries were nicely done! Usually restaurants get carried away with the garlic and Parmesan, but these were perfect. Staff is super friendly. The live music upstairs was a little too loud for my liking while I was trying to eat, but no biggie.. Now I know to sit in the bar or downstairs if I go back on a weekend.
