Yats Menu

Dollar for dollar, the best food I've ever tasted. Yats is Cajun comfort food at its finest. As I ate my half and half chili cheese étouffée and drunken chicken, I must have said, "oh wow" a dozen times. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that you'll want to take a nap after eating there. But I guarantee you'll fall asleep with a smile on your face.

Stopped in because it was close to school and needed something quick, and I'm super glad that I did! The man at the counter was more than helpful when I wasn't sure what I wanted and even let me sample the two dishes I was unsure about! I'll definitely be stopping in more often in my dead periods between classes for a totally affordable and delicious lunch/dinner/study session!

Kevin is extremely helpful, the manager of this new location, as usual the Local business, the food is good (great) the place clean & comfortable I always get my bread baptized with the Cancun butter

Good food at a great price! I'll have to come back to Yats the next time I'm in Indianapolis.

Been here plenty of times, some of the best food in the area with very reasonable prices. Great location, friendly staff, highly recommended.

Definitely good hearty food that isn't fried in a bunch of grease. I want to eat it all the time. V: They are always sure to have 2 veg options. The most common being BnB and Mushroom - Spinach Etouffee. BnB is the best thing they serve in my opinion and I usually eat it. Since going GF I ALWAYS eat it. GF: Ask and they will tell you that the BnB and the Jambalya are GF. Most of their stuff is thickened with a Rue. Stupid rue. I usually say no bread and they usually seem to toss a little extra on my plate since I can't eat the bread. Never been and are scared by the prospect of ordering wrong? They let you taste test in tiny little cups. Taste test! What are you waiting for?!

  • Brenton A.

Yats, you never disappoint. "Where do we wanna eat?" "Yats?" "Is there a Yats nearby?" "Oh, look, there is!" Best conversation ever. You know that you're going to get the same warm, tasty, rib-sticking food as at ever other Yats, for an excellent price. I always feel like I'm stealing, so I buy extra bread. Or at least, that's why I tell myself I buy the extra bread.

Great service and great food. A must go restaurant in Indy. I recommend getting the drunken chicken.

They've done it again. Another awesome location dishing up that all-to-familiar awesome cajun/creole soul food that has Central Indiana rolling on the good times. Very similar to the location on Mass Ave., this Yat's is a cozy, cafe-style eatery. The guy working the register was really helpful and polite, or as I like to phrase it: "a scholar and a gentleman!" They dished up some red beans and rice to go (unfortunately not for me to eat, but for my girl friend working the second shift) and included some extra pieces of bread, which is always a treat. Still has that 'new car smell' and lots of excitement with being so close to IUPUI and Wishard. I know I'll be back soon for my own tastey satisfaction!

Simply awesome ! I was Visiting from Texas and found this place on Yelp. Highly recommend the place. I had curry chicken étouffée. It was so good that I ordered a take away after eating a full plate. You can choose 2 half plates if you want to try variety.

Great food, even better service. I would recommend the chili cheese étouffée with crawfish or drunken chicken. Kevin and his crew are awesome, they will definitely have you leaving with a smile on your face

Great place for a quick bite. Drunken Chicken and Chili Cheese Étouffée were excellent. Very friendly staff too.

Whoever decided to open a Yats within walking distance of IUPUI has my undying gratitude. The only downside to this particular location is that they don't have a lot of seating. But I'd sit outside on the sidewalk if I had to. The food is just as good here as it is at the other locations. Can't get enough of it, even in our current heatwave.

Grabbing a late lunch after having nothing to eat since the night before introduces a little bias. Green burritos from 7-11 begin to look like a Bobby Flay entree. Stumbled onto Yat's while in search of something-anything to eat. I ordered the chili cheese étouffée with crawfish. Having lived and worked in South Louisiana for several years, I'm picky about Cajun and creole food. This was just so good. The roux tasted like it might have just a hint of curry in it. The bread came slathered with a house-made jambalaya butter. That, and an orange pelligrino, set me back $7.75. Tip: save some of the bread to mop up the sauce.

  • Hayley S.

This place is everything you want. Yats is all about good food served quick and a bang for your buck! The étouffée is so full of flavor and just outrageously good! Highly recommend the maque choux! The garlic read served along side is just the cherry on top!

After an 11-hour drive to Indianapolis, we were starving and looking for something quick. We decided to start walking before picking a place. Based on a recommendation from someone that overheard our conversation, we were going to give Yats a try. It was quite a walk from the center of downtown. I didn't know what to expect when we got there. Again, I was extremely hungry so I would have eaten almost anything, but Yats hit the spot. I got the White Chili with Chicken and it was delicious. Everyone at the table enjoyed what they got. The food was very fast and the staff was great.

On our roadtrip from Chicago to Nashville --- Indy is a perfect stop for lunch. I wanted someplace fast and close to 65 so we could get back out easily. This place was so so so good that we actually made the same stop on the way home so that we could get more food to bring home for the kids and inlaws (we were watching our kids). I would literally go anytime that I am within 50 miles of Indy. Their menu is quirky (in a good way). Everything is the same very fair price. Items are rounded nicely so that they are an even number with tax. The menu is on a chalkboard and changes daily. They make a batch, when that batch runs out, it is not available. I like the concept of small selection but all fresh. We loved everything we tried. Both times we were there, they had about 8 items listed. 2 vegetarian and 2 gluten free. I told them that if they opened a location in Chicago, there would be lines out the door. I need for good conscience to make one statement: On the to go order, my 12 year old found a long hair, which grossed him out like crazy and made him not want to eat the food. The hipsters working the place seemed nice and clean. Honestly, I kind doubt it was from them, but could have been. It could have been from me (unfortunately I seem to be shedding lately) when I was serving out the plates, but who knows. Oh, and the phone number listed is wrong. I think that it is actually: 317-602-8676 and the location on Massachusetts is closed for now.

  • S K.

So yummy and I love that the menu is posted daily! Which means it changes daily. I hear they keep some of the most popular items up regularly. I had the drunken chicken and another chicken dish with caramelized corn. It was a half and half order which was $6.51!!!! It was enough food that I had leftovers. We ordered 3 meals and 3 drinks and spent approximately $26. Oh and let me not forget the garlic bread that melted in my mouth...some sort of Cajun garlic butter topping. I will be back on my next visit to Indy!!

Yats is the best food I've ever had. The chipotle chicken Alexio is my favorite. It has the perfect amount of kick to it. The bread is always delicious an goes perfectly with all of their entrees. The employees have all been wonderful. My husband and I go there probably once a week.

This is a perfect, you get what you pay for scenario. Great hot, stewy food, spice at your desired heat for under $7!

So good! Had a friend take me for the first time and it was fantastic. The crawfish étouffée was spectacular and the cashier was hilarious.

At best mediocre Cajun/ creole food.

  • Daniel H.

Walking in I had no experience with Yats or Cajun/Creole food, and the guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. He even provided some samples to help me choose my entree! There selection is small, but varied in spice, flavor, and meat. They have a couple vegetarian offerings as well. And they have Sanpellegrino! The only complaint I have is that it took longer than expected to receive my meal. Apparently my ticket was lost and I was skipped over. This wasn't a big deal though, because as soon as I alerted them that I hadn't received my food, they hopped right to it and got it for me! They even offered extra food for free as compensation. Definitely worth a try!

I am really surprised I have not written on this location yet. This YATS location is just as good as the rest. A bit smaller eating space, but still the same great New Orleans decor and awesome food. Once school is back into session, I am sure this place will be jumping with college students who live walking distance in the area. Also, since the chain has closed its Mass Ave location, I think (not sure) this is the only Yats in the downtown area. I'm always happy with the food and service here, so I'll be back, I am sure.

  • Iris F.

You know how you go some places and it's hit or miss? Well yet is a hit every time! The seasoning on their food is amazing, you can taste the freshness, and their prices are very reasonable. I usually go to the 10th St. location but every location is on point. Great service and the closest you'll get to Cajun until you get to Louisiana.

This is my favorite lunch spot in town. I've not tried anything on the menu I haven't liked. It's fast, they have great service

  • Kinsey C.

Love it. Not much more to say... but this is yelp, so I will. Ordering here is great. They've got their (often changing) menu on a blackboard next to the cash register. Feel free to ask questions about the menu. Not everyone grew up knowing what étouffée is, so they'll be happy to explain items on the menu and make suggestions. I've never really tried anything I didn't like at Yats. I usually stick with their jambalaya or red beans and rice, but it's all good. And at a great price. Plus the bread. Just get the bread. Extra bread is only 75 cents and worth every penny.

  • Albert A.

Came here after a very long day and only eaten granola bars. So I was starving. Not sure if this affected my review. I ordered the drunken chicken. I was pleased with the simplicity of the dishes. However, what was not simple was the taste. This is the first time I had Cajun/NOLA dishes so I cannot speak to much about authenticity. However, I 'll go with my taste buds and say that it was delicious. I like to eat most of my meals with a kick, so I was happy that several sauces are available. The staff was very friendly and made the experience overall great.

  • Cammie W.

The service here is fantastic. On our first visit, the cashier asked if we had been here before. We told him we hadn't so he gave us a run down of what we could order as ordered samples of anything we wanted to try. The chili cheese etoufee w/ crawfish is my favorite so far. It's flavorful & pretty creamy without being too heavy. I've also had: - Curry Chicken - Spinach & Mushroom Etoufee - Drunken Chicken - Chipotle Chicken I love the bread/toast here but it's extremely oily and so bad for you. Definitely worth it once in awhile though. All orders come with rice & toast, even the larger quart size. The rice to etouffée ratio is how I like it but I like my foods saucy so it may be too much for some people. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a quick, filling meal.

I love yats! So I will most likely recommend the restaurant no matter where it is. The workers are always chill and friendly. The food it always great. I will say that sometimes I think the favor of things change from place to place. I have no idea way that is. I am pretty sure the items are factory made. But either way it's never too different were its still not great! You should definitely give it a whirl.

College Ave. Yats is a five-start restaurant. I'm giving this Yats four stars because of the restaurant itself. I believe this is a new building, so I'm not sure what they were thinking with the decor! The original Yats has such character and pizazz. This location seems like some old indian restaurant: red walls, gold chandeliers, marbled tabletops...and yet you're still eating on styrofoam plates with plastic forks! The good news is, this Yats provides the same delicious cajun food ladled over rice and served with generously buttered cajun bread. So, if you want a local draft beer with your meal, go to the Mass Ave. location. If you want history and character, go to the College Ave. location. Still I'm grateful to have this Yats, which provides tasty cajun dishes at a very low cost, a short walk from my home. Tip: Yats let's you sample anything from their chalkboard menu before you order it. So ask for a taste!

Ate here and liked it. Rice with gravy and little slices of garlic bread. Lost of hot sauces to choose from, which I love. I got the something-something-with-crawfish and I spent a few minutes poking with a fork but i could not find any crawfish =\

YATS is great cajun food. It's one of the very few places I've seen on Yelp with 20+ reviews and a 5 star rating. And YATS probably just deserves that. I can't quite give it 5 stars because it's not the best cajun food I've had, there are a handful of Cajun places I'd rather eat at in Chicago. I wish I could give YATS 4.5 stars though because I would eat at YATS again in a heartbeat. Love cajun food and YATS does it very well. I just had the red beans and rice. You get a pint of red beans and sausage with a pint of rice and two chunks of bread. The red beans and sausage is could, could be a bit spicier in my opinion and the sausage could've been a bit more frequent, but it was very tasty. Full of that good, traditional, cajun flavor. The bread has to be the hidden gem - it's a cajun version of garlic bread. There's some light spicing on the top and it works great with the red beans and sausage. The question always comes down to would I get it again? and with YATS it's a definite yes. But not quite the mindblowing meal necessary for a 5 star review.

All around great experience here. The employees were really nice. I made a comment about how I should have gotten extra bread and an employee just brought me out some. Also the entire restaurant was really clean and prices are very fair. Drunken chicken with extra bread is the way to go and if you check some of the other reviews they will agree.

Today was my first time at this location. Free parking behind the building is a bonus. Everything was clean and the employees were very nice. I got the drunken chicken and it was perfect. Perfect taste and a lot of chicken. I'll definitely go back.

I love Yats, I really do. While I live closer to the College Ave. location, I'm not the best at carrying cash. I'd rather drive to this location than head to the ATM. It's always speedy, and I find this location to be generally less crowded than others. If I am at this location, I prefer to get take-out. There was an instance where every Friday for a few weeks I showed up and barely had to place more order. They remembered me every time! Also, if you're unaware, you can order food in pints AND quarts! It still comes with rice and bread too, but can make it a little easier to manage the multiple take-out containers. I recommend the Chipotle Chicken Alexio, always.

I started eating Cajun food 25 years ago when I moved to Louisiana. We did not live there long but just long enough for me to come away with my own gumbo recipe, so I know the elements of good Cajun food. I'm having the 1/2 N 1/2 order of Jerk Étouffée (with coconut milk) and Black Chili (with molasses). It's amazingly good, and I would challenge you to find any better in New Orleans. It's within walking distance of conference, so I might come back tomorrow and order the very same thing!

Free Street parking on weekend. Yats has its own parking lot in the back. The most popular one is Chili Cheese Etouffee $6.25. So good! Crawfish in every bit. Love it. Chipotle Alexo $6.25. Looked almost the same with Chili Cheese Etouffee, but tasted totally different. Very good. If you like something hot, you'll love this one.

Yats is the best! The restaurant is clean and the food is tasty and affordable. I ordered the chicken and chorizo étouffée and chicken creole I believe. The chorizo étouffée was DELICIOUS! It was spicy and flavorful and I wish I would have ordered more before I left. The chicken creole was meh. It seemed too tomato-y to me. Overall, a really good experience. I will definitely have to make a trip down to eat here again.

I have primarily been to the mass ave and trader's point location and I keep going back. This is seriously one of my favorite places in Indy. There are simple, often repetitive choices but whether it's mushroom étouffée or the B&B corn and black bean medley, there are tons of vegetarian options. You can even mix and match by ordering half and half of two different entrees or even just getting a half order. All entrees are served over white rice and served with bread that I believe is flavored with Cajun spices. It is delicious! My only suggestion would be to have brown rice as an option. I haven't asked for this so I could be wrong but I didn't see the option anywhere on the menu.

This near-IUPUI location is very convenient for those working and living by campus to get their creole fix. My favorite item is the vegan white chili with tofu. I've noticed not all Yat's locations have tofu in the vegan chili. I can always use extra protein to go along with the extra bread I order... keeps me from falling asleep at my desk. My coworkers like the chili cheese etouffe and the jambalaya. The right amount of seating to meet the needs of the busy lunch crowd. Friendly staff, which I think is a signature of this local chain. I really think they should stock the incredibly yummy Half Pound Carol's cookies like the Avon location (hint hint).

So I stopped into Yat's on Wednesday night, right before it was about to close (why do I always do that?). It's nice to test what a restaurant really thinks about customer service by the way it treats those who show up in that last 5 minutes. You can tell a lot. I understand that there are a few Yat's locations here in Indy, but this one is very convenient on 10th-practically on IUPU campus. I walked, looked for a menu, the worker told me to look at the board, I looked at the board. I ordered the chicken white chili full-plate for $6.75. I looked around and noticed a small cupboard with Nardia written on it, I thought it was more suited for Rumplestiltskin, but to each his own. I thought the decor of this place was a little wishy-washy, so I would say it was eclectic to say the least. There were gold chandeliers from the ceilings. As long as the food hit the mark I couldn't be happier. I quickly got my plate and sat down. Perfect thick, hot, chicken-chili over rice. The dish was hot, but well within reason. The real capper was the side of bread at the end which seemed to be coated with a Cajun spread of some type, I expected garlic so nice surprise. Cheap eats, full plates, weird decor, nice spice, and with the off chance I may see rumplestiltskin on my next visit I will be back!!

Not my favorite Yats location by any means - Broad Ripple all the way. Why is not my favorite? Parking is sometimes an issue. But, its Yats so its an automatic 5 stars. There is no better place in Indy to get a filling, delicious meal for under $10. The drunken chicken, B&B and chili cheese etoufee are great go-to Yats staples. If you have trouble making decisions like me you can get a half and half and try more than one. Served over rice. No matter what you order, I have a couple of Yats commandments that you must follow: This is no time to stick to your diet - get the cheese, onions and sour cream on top. Order extra bread. It is made (in my opinion) with crack. Don't forget the hot sauce bar! More spiciness is always the way to go.

    (5)
  • Vivian S.

I had half & half drunken chicken and chilli cheese crawfish étouffée. It is so good it's even better than all those I had in the land of Cajun food- New Orleans. It's a perfect combination too, as the drunken chicken is spicy and the cheesy flavor of crawfish étouffée soothes the spiciness out. The only complaint I have is that the crawfish étouffée has only a little bit of crawfish in it. The drunken chicken comes with generous amount of meat tho!

Yats is my go to for quick lunchtime meet ups to a casual dinner option with friends. Each location is decorated slightly differently, but all locations are adorned with fun vibes, enthusiastic staff, an easy to digest menu, and delicious food! The menu is written out on the chalkboard and changes daily. My personal favorites: drunken chicken and white chicken chili. Mmmm, Mmm good! Looking for a vegetarian option? The B&B is pretty delicious, too! Can't pick between two: get both! Order a half and half. Oh, and some extra bread: their bread is delicious! I don't know what they do to it, but it's amazing!

When I first moved to Indianapolis, I was told to go to Yats if I really liked good Cajun food. The person recommending it didn't know that I was actually moving up from New Orleans, and so I was somewhat skeptical. I must say that Yats is more New Orleans than Cajun, and I have to admit it was pretty good in its own way. The prices are also completely reasonable, especially for the portions. I really liked the fact that you have the option of ordering a half plate of one thing and a half or another thing. Anyway, I thought the food was pretty good, I had the chicken macque choux and the jambalaya. I really wanted to try the red beans, but I didn't want to eat so much rice. However, basically all the dishes at Yats come with rice. I wish there was an option where you didn't have to get rice, especially if you are already getting something that is primarily rice I liked that garlic bread came with the meal as well. Both dishes were very good, but I felt like they were a bit on the sweet side. The chicken macque choux was full of buttery goodness and I liked it more than the jambalaya, which is something that I usually default to. The jambalaya at Yats in my opinion had a lot of tomato which gave it more tang than I would prefer. So jambalaya was sweet and tangy. Further, it was chicken and sausage jambalaya, and I literally only had one slice of sausage in my jambalaya and bits of chicken. The same goes of rate chicken macque choux, not a lot of actual chicken (even when I was anticipating possibly a long cook resulting in shredded chicken, nope nothing really there). What's up with that? As for spice/heat? I am a spice/heat wimp, and I can say that the food was not spicy at all at Yats, just a very mild hint. It was a kind of downer that you had to eat off styrofoam plates, drink from styrofoam cups and use plastic utensils. I mean, I get it, the styrofoam cups are pretty new orleans *sarcasm*. This however, won't stop me from coming again as a quick and easy fix to hunger.

In town for a business trip and decided to give Yats a try. Growing up on Cajun cuisine while living in New Orleans, I wasn't sure it would curb my crave for some home town food. Yats did not disappoint. I had the chili cheese étouffée with crawfish and it was great. Best Cajun food for the price north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

  • Ro T.

Yats is one of my very favorite restaurants. I normally frequent the SoBro location, but we were west downtown, so we stopped at this one. The food was consistent to the other locations, but what really made me happy was the fact that they took cards. I know that sounds simplistic, but I RARELY carry cash, like a big chunk of society anymore, so being able to swipe that plastic made me wanna keep going back to this location. So if you love Cajun food and like to dance with the cashiers who are native islanders, then stop by this Yats!

  • Ben R.

This has to be my favorite lunch spot in town. I've not tried anything on the menu I haven't liked. It's fast, they have great service, and the food is so good that you don't want to stop eating. My favorite item on the menu is the chicken and chorizo etouffee. It has just enough heat while still bursting with flavor. Other favorites of mine are drunken chicken, chicken maque choux, and Chile cheese etouffee. You really can't go wrong. The menu items can change daily so check the yats website for the daily menus at each location. Also, always get the extra bread. It really makes a better delivery system from plate to mouth than a fork or spoon does. I would bet that even Gordon Ramsey would make this place a regular spot and we've all seen on TV how picky and judgemental he can be.

  • Sarah C.

I love everything about Yats. The staff is always super friendly and helpful! For someone that isn't a Cajun/Creole expert, ordering is super simple. They have their daily menu on a blackboard next to the cash register and each item has the ingredients listed. A lot of people are scared to try Yats because they have heard it's "too spicy". I am Puerto Rican and don't like super spicy foods.. (I know.. what's wrong with me?!) The food does have a kick to it but it is not overwhelming at all. If you don't want anything too spicy, I would recommend the B & B. It is a vegetarian dish and has a sweet taste to it :) My personal favorite is the White Chili w/ Chicken :)

Unbelievable how good the food is and how helpful the staff is on helping you choose what to eat. You can not go wrong eating anything there. The take out is great and it even reheats well the next day.
