"OMG! You have to try our double IPA! It's great... It's not very hoppy at all!" I was a newcomer to Towyard recently. I heard this statement, and I have to admit, I was confuzzled. A double IPA? Not very hoppy? And you are proud of this? I tasted a couple of their beers, and left. I am glad I didn't pay $12 for a flight. I can't think of any other brewery that charges more than $6 - 8 for a flight, but $12? You have to have the quality to back up that price, and from what I tasted, your beer belonged in the garbage disposal.

Love coming here on Monday nights! Growler fills are only $5 and it's not generally very busy. I can relax with a book and a beer and be perfectly happy. The staff is super nice and welcoming and are always able to recommend just the right thing. I love the layout, the deck, and the glorious, glorious walls of old beer cans. Also, free parking which is a win. I won't stop coming here anytime soon!

Soooo to update you on things at TowYard Brewing....still LOVE the carnitas fries and their beers are growing on me. In other news, their chicken wings are amazing! Don't picture your average weenie BDubs traditional wings--these things are HUGE, grilled, and delicious! I was only able to eat 2 or 3 of them because they're so large.

Had their food for the first time today. It's as good as the beer, which is excellent. How Sun King survives around the corner from this place is amazing to me! Try the wings, which are huge, delicious, and only $1.50 on Thursdays.

large outdoor eating/drinking area, another large indoor eating area with several high top tables with a small, maybe 8-10 barstool bar, smaller lower tables eating area, all connected by the large main bar. north os the main bar is the great beer can wall. bar back includes the taps, growler shelves, and large windows that look into the brewery. clean bar top with no rail. red vinyl cover bar stools with back support. solid bartenders and average bar food. beer is good, but i wouldn't put it in the same category as say a black acre. oddest observation, their growlers are not printed, its just a sticker. why get cheap on such a small detail.

I did not have the negative experience many have shared. I was definitely skeptical. We went for lunch and were greeted promptly. They weren't very busy, but our servers (one was training) were very attentive. I should also say, I don't drink beer. I was with two beer drinkers and they both liked the Shandy. Yelp reviewers recommended the carnitas fries - they did not disappoint. For lunch we had the Bourdain, The Viscous Pig and I had the wings. The only complaint was that the mustard overwhelmed the pork on the Vicious Pig. The Bourdain was devoured in no time. I do not eat wings...ever. Thanks to Yelpers I decided to go out of my comfort zone and give them a try. They were huge and delicious. Nice and crispy with a perfect char. We will definitely be back. Thanks Yelp!

I came here as part of a large group of about 15 people. The service was not good. I was one of the first few to get there, the place was empty on a week night, and it took our waitress quite a while to come over and take my order. Granted it got busier later and slower service is to be expected, but it started out of the gates at a crawl. I had the Hula Hoop Girl, a witbier brewed with chamomile. It was not good. Not even okay, it was a beer you take a sip of and think, am I really going to go through with drinking this whole thing? I did, but I was deterred from ordering another beer. It tasted like it was possibly skunked, so maybe it's better on other occasions. I also got the "Hail Caesar" which was confusing. There is a small caesar salad that comes with romaine, parmesan cheese, croutons, and caesar dressing. We all know what a caesar salad is. But for some unfounded reason, the large version with chicken also comes with red onions (okay) and olives (okay?). The menu says grilled chicken. Mine was breaded. And the "chicken" was mostly pieces of shredded breading, like the bottom of the chicken barrel remnants. This is very irritating to me. I'm not a health freak, but if I would have known the chicken was breaded I would have splurged on something else. It was good, but it wasn't what I wanted and it wasn't what I thought I was ordering. Not cool. I get self-conscious about complaining about my food, so I didn't say anything and I have no idea how management would have handled the situation. My friend offered to complain, but the waitress didn't come back until I waved her down for my check and had already finished the salad. Overall I won't be back. I'd likely give it another try if the location were more convenient for me, the beer improved from a 2/5 to a 3/5, or the food at least appeared as-described on the menu.

Went in at 1130 for an early lunch, the kitchen staff hadn't shown up yet so no food available. I had a beer while I waited, it was a wheat with chamomile, it was ambitious but off the mark. My friend had their IPA and it was good so two stars.

Tow Yard Brewing is an average brewing company with a menu consisting of mostly deli sandwiches. The brewery is better fitted for lunch over dinner, as a result. During our visit to GenCon in the Indy area my friends and I swung by Tow Yard on a Friday night for a quick bite and brew. We were seated immediately because we were dining in so late. I ended up ordering a brown ale, carnitas fries for an appetizer, and the classic burger with potato salad for a side. Service was overall okay, but I imagine it being below average if the restaurant had actually been busy. The carnitas fries were absolutely fantastic per other reviews' recommendations. Great bar food here! The beer was okay, but I wasn't overly impressed. The entire list was mostly a hop based list with few choices for malt. I think people with a love for bitter beers would enjoy the selection here more than I did. The classic burger was a little overcooked, despite ordering it medium. It was dry and the bacon on it was crispy, crunchy, dry, and overcooked. The potato was just a bit strange and definitely needed some salt/seasoning. Overall, Tow Yard didn't really impress me, but it was acceptable for a quick bite and brew.

I've been to trivia night with some coworkers a couple times, and I have to say it's the best trivia I've been to in Indy! Fun but challenging questions, and friendly MC. We used to go to Red Lion in Fountain Square on Thursday, but the questions got too obscure. Drinks are significantly pricier here, but we did win a free round! I would recommend Hula Girl if you're looking for a drink.

Good Sandwiches, Great Daily Deals, OK beer and Great location. Definitely a positive addition to the brewery scene of Indianapolis, and I've seen consistent improvement in their beers since they first opened! Plenty of room for a larger group of people, and though the sandwiches are simple deli sandwhiches they were quite tasty. Unfortunately we ordered ours with fries last time and by the time they got to us, they were cold :/ Stop in for some of the specials to enjoy the open rustic industrial brew pub feel: Monday - $5 growlers Tuesday - $2 pints (they say selected beerS, but the times I've been they meant beer, but it's always been a good selection that I enjoyed...especially at that price point)

4-Star Beer + 3-Star Food = 3.5 Stars I was here for an event sponsored by Girls Pint Out where we sampled five beers that were paired with five small bites from Tow Yard's menu. Of the two categories--beer and food--I was a bigger fan of the beer. I was able to sample the stout, IPA, double pale ale, shandler, and scotch ale. I enjoyed all of my sips, even the sweet citrusy shandler, a beer my palette usually can't handle. I especially was pleased that Tow Yard had a stout, which is a beer I notice not many of the newer breweries are carrying. (I see more of the Pale Ales and Ambers, which are not my go-to's in the winter.) If I had to choose a beer that I'd recommend to someone, I'd go with the Horse Power, the double pale ale. I think that had the most complexity and stand-out taste. Food-wise, you can expect some decent sandwiches. Of the five bites we sampled, the Angus Young (roast beef, herb mayo, romaine, tomato, red onion, and bleu cheese sourdough) was probably the one I would order as a meal, but it wasn't something that had me raving for days. After this first experience, I know that Tow Yard is worth checking out again, especially in the form of a flight.

We visited Tow Yard last night after trying their beer at several events. The place was pretty big with bar, deli and lots of seating in the dinning area and front deck too. We chose to sit on the deck since it was a beautiful night. We were greeted quickly and sat immediately. Thursday night specials are $10 pitchers, $1.50 wings, and open mic night. We partook in it all. The Hook Up shandy is our favorite beer here. It's easy to drink, light and tasty so it's a great choice for drinking multiply glasses. It's actually mixed with a local citrus soda. We ordered a $10 pitcher of course. It's $5 a glass otherwise so it was an easy choice. We also went with the Carnita Fries as suggested by my fellow yelpers and 6 of the $1.50 Beer Can Wings. Carnita Fries came out first and man were they delicious! A mountain of Waffle fries topped with queso, salsa, lettuce, Louisiana hot sauce and a hearty portion of braised pork! My husband and I shared it and was pretty full after. The wings came next but we were defiantly let down. They arrived black and completely charred. I can't believe the cooks or the waitress would send them out! We of course asked for a replacement order. Our replacement was much better. The wings are marinated in beer over night and then dry rubbed with seasoning. They were pretty great even without the dipping sauce. Jamaican relish was my favorite. Sweet with a hint of heat, different than any other sauce I've had. We only ordered 6 and took half of them home. They are large (whole wing section) and mixed with the fries we couldn't finish them. My husband also participated in the open mic night. He played guitar and sang a 4 song set. Most of the acts that night were musicians but anyone is welcome. There was even a comedian that did a short set. It was a great mix of music genres throughout the night too. It was nice to have a little live entertainment with your meal. Bathrooms were clean and staff was friendly. They have great weekday specials. We plan to be back on Monday for $5 growler fills, Wednesday for $5 bullet and fill, and of course Thursday open mic night.

Rose was our server and shes awesome! The shandy beer is incredible!I can't begin to extrapolate on the quality of the food. The wings are worth every penny.

Stopped in her this past Saturday and enjoyed some beers and food, and really had a great time. Knowledgeable bartender, and recommended some great food options. My husband had the sampler of beers, and I had the Hook Up, which was awesome! We split the hubcap burger and I would definitely get it again *add bacon and its even better* Nice relaxed, casual environment and will definitely be back next time we are in town.

We visited Tow Yard right after it opened, and almost didn't come back. I'm glad we gave it another chance. Their beers are pretty good. The Goldie Hops and Shandler are light and refreshing. The Randy smash is complex and enjoyable. The wheat beer tasted more like an IPA than a wheat beer. As for the food, it's OK. Pretty typical sandwiches. The server raved about the prohibition, but there was hardly any brisket on the sandwich. The turkey sandwich looked and tasted like it was delivered straight from Jimmy Johns. Enjoy the beer, enjoy the view at Happy Hour, then go find dinner elsewhere.

This was a very tough one because if I could just give the beer a rating it would be more like a 3.5-4 stars...however the overall experience was enough to say that I will never come back. I had been wanting to come here for upwards of a year and after sampling some beer at Yelp Paints the Town Red, I was beyond excited to come tonight. We first arrive to see the "seat yourself" sign and pick a table right near the door. It was busy but not overly crowded. We sit..and wait...and wait...and look at nearby tables to see other couples with that "waiting" kind of look. During the course of our wait, an employee was on his cell phone near the front door talking loudly about work-related issues and his remarks about the restaurant operations weren't positive at all. Briefly, he stepped outside to talk so I imagine people sitting on the deck overheard it as well. Very unprofessional. It took 15 minutes for someone to stop by and ask if we had been helped yet. Huge reg flags had gone up at this point but we had a living social deal so we stayed. We ordered couple of flights and then the waiting game continued...about 10 minutes later the beers arrive. Each of the beers I tasted I really enjoyed and same for my boyfriend. We order our food and the pretzels and beer cheese dip appetizer. About 20 minutes later the main dishes arrive. Apparently the pretzel appetizer never made it on the order. So they went ahead and put the order in after we got the food. Scott got the Onasis : Carved "fried" chicken breast + roasted red peppers + feta cheese + pesto + marinated mushrooms + balsamic glaze and I ordered the Rabbit Hole burger: Sauteed mushrooms + Swiss cheese + deli mustard My burger was good but not overly impressive..especially for the price. The burgers and sandwiches come with your standard potato chip but it wasn't anything special...or homemade. Scott's sandwich was ice cold. The chicken breast was straight from the chiller and I kid you not but the "marinated" mushrooms were ice cold. F-ing gross when I took a bite. Scott even asked another server over to the table to let him know about the cold food and the guy didn't have a clue as to how it was supposed to be prepared...he even picked up the menu to see what exactly the description said. The server wasn't much help and we learned that our primary server only works there every 3ish weeks so when he said that and then told us that he doesn't know the menu/beers that well I about lost it. ******************************************************* I don't care how infrequently you work a job because darn it when you are on shift you are expected to have the same knowledge and etiquette as the best server in the house. ******************************************************** So we finally get our pretzel appetizer and I begrudgingly tried it....but I have to say it was damn good! The cheese was warm and gooey and the mustard was perfect! The beer is good but the restaurant is not working out very well...It was extremely understaffed for a Saturday evening. We weren't the only ones to notice the lack of staff. One man got up from his table to find a server and that dude was pissed and another started cheering and clapping loudly when his server finally arrived.

The view of the skyline is amazing. For that alone I find myself coming returning again and again. Truthfully. their beers are not the best I've ever tasted. But they actually have a pretty decent wine selection By the glass. Also if you are sitting on the patio, drink ordering goes faster if you just order from the bar. The "waitresses" here move at a glacial pace.

I was not super impressed with my Tow Yard experience. The huge free parking lot is a great bonus and I love the garage doors that open on a nice sunny day but the inside decor was cold and boring. There seemed to be plenty of seating but I wish there were more pool tables, daft boards, shuffle board, anything. We had 3 servers sharing our table for some reason which was super confusing. I tried two different types of bland beer before I asked for a glass of wine. The food was really good - the pork fries were awesome! But by 9pm it was a ghost town with the server asking if we could cash out as it appeared they were about to close. It was a Saturday night!! We went and spent our time and money across the street at the Slippery Noodle. Probably not a place I would go back to.

Great location by football stadium. It is worth stopping by to try the beer. I also ate lunch here and think ownership could improve upon food options. I had a sandwich and just didn't think it was appetizing. Investing in a creative cook would improve the food.

After 6+ visits since they opened a couple months ago, including their grand opening event, it's clear they are going to hold at a 3 star establishment. The beer: tow yard beer mediocre, and I still don't care for the temperature. Before they could sell their own pints they had plenty of sun king, triton, and other Indiana beers. Now that they have theirs it feels like they are offering more Midwestern beers that aren't Indiana. Maybe that's just been the times I visited. The food: probably worthy of 4 stars, especially at the new price points. But they never have 2 menus that match, which is confusing and always results in me ordering and then finding a special item I didn't know existed. The service: it's terrible. They seem to have figured out a better system for the deli which operates like a Culvers/Panera/mcalisters where you are given a number when you order at the counter and they bring your food out. But the follow up service and the bar service have never impressed me. I'll be back, but I'll be expecting a 3 star experience at a reasonable price point

This place had pretty decent beers, but not amazing. I love beer, but some of them were weird. I don't remember the name but I was turned off by the sweet beer. The really cool thing is that on Fridays, they have $5 flights instead of $12. The food was good.. I tired the fried pickles (yum!), chicken wings (huge), pretzel bites, and this fry dish that had everything on it that you'd put on nachos. I think the sauces make the food really good. I probably tried anywhere from 4-6 different sauces and enjoyed all.

This is easily the best beer I've had since I've been in Indy. I only had the pretzel bites, but those were really good, as well! Decent service, and live music on certain days. Highly recommended!

The wife and I met a friend of ours at Tow Yard for a few drinks after work the other day. We arrived to see the doors and windows opened wide to the beautiful day - exactly what we hoped for! Tow Yard is located in a great space with ample seating, great views of downtown, and patio space to boot. I really enjoyed the look of the brick walls, old cans, and windows to the fermentation tanks. It seems like a great, stylish place to stop by after work - and many of the other patrons looked like they had done just that. The food was also very enjoyable. They don't offer a huge selection, but what they do offer is varied enough that most everyone should be able to find something that sounds good. We started off with an order of the Carnitas Fries, which were very good. The pork was moist, the queso tangy, and the other toppings fresh and tasty. I then ordered the Prohibition sandwich and was pleased with it as well. The brisket was flavorful and paired well with the avocado - delicious! Prices for the food were maybe a little higher than what I'd usually pay for a sandwich, but not that bad and the food didn't disappoint. And our service was just as good as the food! Our waiter did a great job checking in on us, asking which beers we wanted next, and keeping waters filled. Our food also came out quickly and I really can't think of a single complaint about the service. The beer, however, I did find less than satisfying. My wife isn't a huge fan of hoppy beer, so the fact that that's a lot of what they offered didn't help her out too much. It would be nice to see a little more variety (maybe a blonde or stout?), so hopefully next time we go they'll have a little different selection. But even so, the beers we did have were good, just not stellar. Overall, I really enjoyed our experience at Tow Yard. They have a great setup, offer interesting food items, and the service was great. I think I'd plan on coming here pretty often if I liked their beers more. So, while we will be back, I don't see this becoming a regular hangout spot.

I am a real craft beer head and there is lots if good breweries in downtown Indi and I love beer. This however is actually the absolute worst beer I have ever had. I couldn't even finish my flight. As nauseating as it sounds, I think Coors light is better. UUUGGGGHHH

This is a good addition to the nanobrewery scene in Indianapolis. They brew several of their own beers here, so I recommend getting the sampler on your 1st visit to see what you really like. The food is also quite good. Not a full menu, as they advertise themselves as a delicatessan. However, there is a large selection of sandwiches and some deep-fried items. I sat at the bar and the bartender was on his game. He was fast, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the beers and the brewing operations. If you have under 21 guests, the deli area can accommodate your party.

  • Jason B.

Let's start off with the brewery space itself. It's just south of downtown so it's a perfect spot to go if you work downtown or are heading to a colts or pacers game. The taproom is pretty a pretty good size with some outdoor seating facing the city for when it's nice out. Parking is not a pain as they have their own dedicated lot, so you don't have to struggle to find parking or pay for parking. I didn't have any food, so I can't comment on that. The beer, however, I did have. I've had several of their beers outside of the brewery over the last year and I wasn't very impressed by them (especially considering all the amazing things happening with beer in Indy). While I was here, I tried a few more of their beers and again, I was not all that impressed. That's not to say that the beer was bad. It was not. It's just nothing popped out at me or whispered to me "you want to drink more of me". My biggest disappointment was the IPA, which was a bit too sweet, and almost all of the bitterness was in a harsh after taste after the malt sweetness was already in your stomach. I recommend going in and trying their beers and making your own opinion, just be prepared for middle of the road beers. Oh, and the bathroom sink is like a miniature sink and it's nearly impossible to have your hands under the water without having them pressed against the wall of the sink.

Good brews and good prices. $5 for each beer. We didn't try any food. The service was great. Lila was our bartender and was very friendly and welcoming even as they were busy from "$5 growler Monday."

My boyfriend and I dropped in Tow Yard for a flight after church on a Monday. It wasn't super busy so we were served quickly. The beers we tried were the Goldie Hops, Hook Up, Horse Power, Emerald Circle IPA, and the Pumpkin Ale. None of the beers blew me away but the Horse Power and Pumpkin Ale were very good beers. It's noteworthy to mention I almost never like pumpkin beers so I was shocked to enjoy it so much. The IPA and Goldie Hopes were okay and I would definitely drink them again but I won't be planning my next trip to tow yard for them. The Hook Up was gross. I imagine a person who enjoys ciders enjoying this beer, and that is definitely not me. Overall, the experience was good. Nothing exceptional but we will definitely be back to try some of their food items. Also, since we were there on a Monday growler fills were $5. What a nice surprise? So we got a growler of the double IPA and pumpkin ale. Definitely worth $5. That balanced out the cost of the flight, which was $12. We thought that was a little steep. Apparently they do $5 flights on Fridays though.

The brewery bubble is about to burst in Indy and I think that my experience at Tow Yard proves it. Simply put, the beer is nothing to write home about with lack of originality or any unique notes. When asked to describe what the Vienna-style lager tasted like, the bartender described it as "similar to Bud Light, but a craft beer..." This is ridiculous and explains why most of the newer breweries in the city are a dime-a-dozen. If you don't have anything original to say, keep your mouth shut. The service and appetizers we ordered were decent, but nothing to spectacular nor memorable. The space, however, is beautiful. Let's hope Tow Yard can step up their beer game in the next few months.

This experience was, unfortunately, a disappointment. I came in on a Tuesday night with a group of 25 (with a reservation...they knew we were coming) and found basically everything to be underwhelming. On a positive note, I did really like the space and decor. We only had one waitress (!) for our group. She was also responsible for some other tables and was clearly frazzled. Strike #1 for me was when I got a look at the drink offerings, saw mostly their own brews, and (assuming there were more than the 10 beers on the menu) asked her what kind of ciders they had. They had none! Ciders are basically the only beer I drink (and I know some will fault me for that), but I found this really disappointing and atypical based on visits to other breweries. I settled on the controversial Hook Up Shandler, which was OK for a beer but certainly not worthy of ordering again. My husband ordered their wheat ale but was pretty certain that what was delivered to our table was an IPA. He asked the waitress, and her response was that Tow Yard's wheat ale "just tastes like that". We ordered some food, too. We were up mingling as you might do with a large group in a bar setting, and our waitress came up to us pretty exasperated to let us know that since we had moved from our seats, she was very confused, and here was our food. We decided to split the Bantam + the Biddy sandwich (fried chicken, colby, bacon) and the carnitas fries. The food was worth 3 stars. The sandwich tasted just fine, the meat was actually lunchmeat and tasted more like turkey than chicken, and it was pretty salty. The fries were of the waffle variety (yay!), but there weren't very many of them. The queso, pico, and other toppings were pretty good. The pork on top was great, but it was sort of drowned in lettuce. I'm glad we asked for the "churrasco sauce" on the side, because it was basically just bright orange hot sauce. I wouldn't be feeling so harsh if Tow Yard was anywhere else, but this place is within walking distance to Lucas Oil and Banker's Life. This is prime real estate in downtown, and I'm sure they have no shortage of potential customers. I needed a bigger drink menu, a bigger and better food menu, and better service.

Overall, a solid start to our day. We came in around dish and found a table right away. Our waitress was friendly, and very helpful. We ended up ordering 2 flights of beer, a pumpkin beer, and a red lager type beer. The flight was good as it kind of "welcomes" you to what Tow Yard has to over. Overall, pretty good but a bit to IPA/hoppy for me. I really enjoyed the hook up beer the most. We put in a food order for the pork carnitas waffle fries (yes!) and the keggers. The pork carnitas fries easily won out (like you expected anything different??). Crispy waffle fries topped with queso, pork carnitas, pico de gallo, and lettuce. I couldn't get enough of these things. I would like to go back again and try the Rhas Al Ghul (roasted cauliflower, no more need be said). As our food came out, a band also made its way in for a live show. This entailed us having to move to another table so that they could set up. A bit annoying, but c'est la vie. All in all, I would definitely make a return trip for some more beer and definitely to try that Rhas Al Ghul app.

It doesn't happen often, but this is a place leaving me wishing I had the option of half stars. I feel sorta bad about 3, but can't quite give 4 yet. I've been a few times, and each experience seems to be a little better than the previous one. First visit: Everything seemed in disarray, there were no pint sales of their own beer, limited brewing equipment, no growlers, etc. Everyone was perfectly pleasant when they did show up, and I even spoke with the brewer for a bit about what was to come. After coming back a few more times, the service has improved, and they have had growlers of their own beer. Still seemingly a bit of confusion, but much better. I love the patio. I've also had some good fun with some really awesome people that patronize the establishment. In decent weather, its a great place to sit and soak up some sun and beer, and even order a sandwich. The food was pretty good. I can't remember the name of the sandwich I had, but I would eat it again. Being a carnivore I would have preferred a little more meat on the sandwich, but to clarify; it wasn't ridiculously skimped. The beers are solid; while not my favorite local place for beer, several friends I have gone with have enjoyed it. That and well, it is beer so no arm twisting necessary to get me here. The building is neat, nice outside view ... At times parking can be difficult, but I have always found atleast somewhere in close proximity. I'll be back.

Every brewing company needs at least 5 solid beers and these guys have several that are truly worth trying. The Emerald Circle IPA, Oatis Redding Imperial Red, Who's That? Brown Ale, and the Hook Up Shandler are solid offerings from Tow Yard Brewing Company. Where's the porter/stout?! Would definitely come back for live music, sports events, and 1/2 price growler pours. Front of house knows the beer styles, has insight into local ingredients, and happenings with local brew scene. The menu needs to include the deli sides, doesn't have the latest beer offerings, and could generally be re-organized (appetizers after entrées?). Wish the meat/cheese platters were still on the menu. Owners/brewmaster of the brewery weren't around and seem to be out running multiple businesses--and leave the brewery to run itself. A little more involvement and a lot more promotion would go a long way. Otherwise, lots of potential for Tow Yard Brewing Company.

If you're into pub grub (in which I am), Tow Yard is outstanding - very good food. If you're into local beer (in which I am indifferent), Tow Yard is bad - in my opinion, the worst Indianapolis-brewed beer. The design of the bar is pretty cool. The people that work here are very nice. The service is outstanding during the week...when nobody is there. I went to Tow Yard for dinner on Monday evening and I was the only customer in the joint. During the weekend, the management doesn't have enough staff members in place. Consequently, the service is horrible because they are understaffed. Tow Yard is in one of the best locations of any Indianapolis brewery - just south of downtown. If you're not already downtown though, Tow Yard isn't worth the extra trip.

Great location... But the service is horrendous. Our waitress complained when we asked to move inside, and asked us if we could change our minds. Really? Then she argued with us over the menu, was pretty short the entire time. I understand people have bad days, but I've now been here three times and the service has never been good. They have a good selection of vegetarian options, but it's not consistent, neither is the deli, which is one of the reasons we stopped again. And the beer is just okay, it feels like they are trying to make the most people happy, not trying to knock our socks off with great beer. I would probably stop here before a colts game or downtown event due to proximity, but wouldn't choose to go back otherwise.

We stopped in this past weekend on a beautiful day. We were able to sit on the patio even though there were large parties who had almost overrun the space. Our waitress Kimber was great! She made good suggestions and was friendly. We each had a flight as we'd never tried any of TY's beers. We didn't dislike any of the beers although the Goldie Hops is pretty run of the mill. Our server was even able to get us samples of the rye and the Scottish ale. They were both good and we ended up getting a growler of the rye to take home. We ordered the carnitas fries to enjoy while trying the beers. We loved them! The pork was tender and flavorful. We also loved the cheese on them. We would definitely come back to try more food based on those fries. The place was clean, including the restrooms. The patio was very nice, especially in the later afternoon with the sun shining. I think the inside might have the possibility to be a bit loud with all the metal and concrete. It was nice to have free parking so close by. They also have specials - $5 growler refills on Mondays! Of note to people watchers - it appears the Handle Bar starts/stops from this location, so you've got those people to watch while sipping a beer without peddling!

"This one tastes just like Miller Lite." "No, no. Try this. It tastes the MOST like Miller Lite." The above is an actual conversation that I had with my husband about the beer flight. All the beers are pretty inoffensive, and that's pretty much all I can say about them. Didn't try the food, but with so many outstanding breweries in Indy I wouldn't go back for the beer unless I was sticking to guest taps. The space is nice and they have parking onsite, which is nice. It's just that beer-wise, Tow Yard is an underwhelming player on an all-star brewery team.

the sandwiches and wings are delicious. beers are pretty decent, I imagine these will continue to get better as the brewery gets established. I especially enjoyed their imperial red ale.

This is the best pub food in Indy. I've been here twice, and both times the food was hot and delicious. I definitely recommend the gator sandwich "Gator Done." I tried a couple of their beers and both were good, but the shandy was pretty heavy on the lemonade for my taste. The head chef walked around several times while we were there to make sure everyone was happy.

Tow Yard was okay.. that's really the best word I can use to describe it. We went around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon.. wasn't too busy, but there was only one waitress, so the service was a bit slow. We tasted a few beers and they were pretty good. Really wanted to get the charcuterie board but apparently they don't have them anymore (??) Weird. So, we ordered the keggers which were mini pretzel bites that were served with mustard and cheese. They were good and definitely complemented the beer, but I really, really wish they still had that ole charcuterie board! I ordered the Notorious W.R.A.P. It was meh. I think it was some sort of tahini sauce, but there was just way too much of it in the wrap for my taste. Also, I added sprouts to the wrap and that cost an additional 75 cents. Seriously? Seems a little ridiculous in my book. The service was incredibly spotty due to not having enough help, and I wasn't super impressed with the menu. There wasn't a lot of variety - basically deli sandwiches or salads. Pros: -I liked the interior -Good beers -Even though it was busy and the waitress messed up our order, she gave us free cake pops and beer samples so that made it better Cons: -$9 sandwich and doesn't come with a side... have to pay an additional $2.25. Seems to me that they're nickel and diming us just a bit -Tables inside are really small -Loud music and echo-y walls and floors make it hard to hear -Not very much variety on the menu I would probably come back one more time for food, but more times if I was just getting the beer. It's okay, but I think they have a long way to go.

I'm not sure what the cause for the very low rating on this place are. I went with a few friends and had a very attentive waiter who answered any questions we had and was very helpful regarding recommendations. We tried a sample of all their beer and found all to be pleasant, albeit hoppy. There's really nothing for dark beer drinkers here as almost everything is a pale ale or IPA. I tend to drink lighter beers and was pleased with their golden ale as well as a beer I can't seem to recall with grapefruit soda in it. (Not exactly strong or low on general sweetness, but good for a hot day. We also tried the broccoli salad, the loaded potato salad, the burger, the chicken salad sandwich, and the provincial? With shaved beef, avocado, garlic mayo, lto, and horseradish. All of it was pretty tasty, but a bit small for a $9 sandwich.

The TowYard was our last stop before heading back to Cincinnati after a long weekend. We had read a review for $2 pint Tuesday, and heard their $1.25 carnitas tacos were worth the trip...WIN!!! They were accommodating, generous with their samples, and super informative as to their beer recipes. Their Goldie Hops Golden Ale was smooth and easy to drink at 5.2 ABV, 26 IBU's. Yes, it was quiet, because it was Tuesday, but friends who are regulars said the place runs smoothly all the time! Recommended!

We met some friends here for a Colt's game. We all had a great time... the atmosphere here is awesome with the garage doors that open out to the patio with a view of the city. The beer and food was very tasty as well. When you are in Downtown Indy you need to check this place out!

This is one of those places I really wanted to fall in love with. It's got a great patio and a great view of the south side of the city, and repurposes an old building nicely. Strangely, though, what will keep me coming back are their salads. I've never found a brewery who can keep me around for a salad. Unfortunately, not much else did it for me. The beer was so-so, and although they've got good drafts from other places, most of the Tow Yard brews are pretty standard. I'd avoid the Summer Shandler unless you really like residual sugar. Moreover, I may have just had a bad service experience, but everything was really, really slow coming and going. There were a couple of large tables inside, but even so, it was a consistently and surprisingly long wait time. I also never would have expected to complain about the furniture at a place, but the outdoor chairs are weighted really weirdly. If you lean forward even a bit to eat a bite or take a sip, the chair very nearly falls forward. Since this means colliding into a table that is likely holding a bunch of beer, it's not really ideal. I swear this had nothing to do with beer that I had drunk -- I tested it fully sober and it was the same problem. Still, Tow Yard is a nice alternative to a sports bar if you want to catch a game. It's got more TVs and viewing space than most microbreweries. But if you're looking for beer, I'd check out another member of Indy's scene.

Environment-wise, Tow Yard beats any other brewery in the downtown area. We were there during the Shamrock Series (Notre Dame vs. Purdue game) and since it's in the shadows of Lucas Oil, there was a fun tailgating atmosphere around the brewery. This would be a great place to visit before/during a Colts game if you're looking for a fun crowd. The building has old garage doors that were open and are south - facing so they provide a picturesque view of the downtown skyline. The doors also open up to a nice patio with seating. Our server was very attentive and gave useful suggestions about the menu. So, why 3 stars? I'm a fan of strong/hoppy beers and this brewery simply didn't deliver in that area. I tried their IPA which was a bit mild, and our server told me it was their hoppiest brew. I also had their double pale ale, which I did like a little better than the IPA. The food I ordered was just okay (hot sauce-smothered carnitas fries) and the menu was small and didn't offer a lot of options. Don't come here for a meal. Come for a good time in a fun environment with a group of friends!

One of my new favorite spots in Indy. The staff is very friendly, they have a great selections of beer (I am addicted to the Hook Up Shandler), great space, and an awesome view of downtown Indy from the deck. $5 Growler refills on Monday nights too!! Would have given it 5 stars but I tried to call at 8 p.m. and nobody answered. The website needs some work because they do not have any information about the menu or deli. I got there about 8:30 and the kitchen/deli was already closed. I had one beer and went to the Slippery Noodle to eat.

Tow Yard Brewing is still new, and it kind of shows in the service, but that's ok. The food and the beer were tasty, the atmosphere was fun and the large open bays were perfect for a nice, warm weather day. The service was ok, they were pretty busy (it was a holiday.) Our server was nice, but not very attentive. I didn't feel comfortable taking his time to ask any questions, because I wasn't sure if he was just swamped with other tables. Either way, we were eating and drinking soon enough and that's what matters. I tried the gator appetizer, and really enjoyed it. It was unique, but not over the top. Their menu was limited to a few items, but they are a brewery, so that's normal. The beer flight for $12 was perfect for the two of us to try all of the Tow Yard beers. I really loved Hook Up, a beer cocktail (Shandler) that included a blend of Goldie Hops and organic grapefruit pop. Light, refreshing, tastes like summer. My other favorite was Emerald Circle IPA, very smooth, and will sneak up on you. I might stick with the flight again, next time, just because I'm commitment phobic when it comes to a list of beers that I know I enjoy.

** Tow Yard now sells craft beer in cans! I recommend the Hook Up six pack currently selling for $8.99. I hate craft four packs! The price says six beers but I'm only getting four? This place is pretty close to great. There are just a couple of things that were lacking. The inside is very well designed and stylish. I like the wall of old beer cans and how you can see the fermenters from the dining area. I don't think there were any booth spaces but there was a lot of bar stool seating at tables or the bar. The menu was a little less than traditional pub grub but that's not really a bad thing. There's a burger of the day and that's the only burger, so if you're not into it, sorry about ya. I also was really confused by how he appetizer did not come with small plates to spread the food around to everybody which makes for a lot of passing back and forth...and that dreaded last bite. Nobody wants to be a dick and take the last carnita French fry so it sets there and gets to certain level of coldness and disregard before it gets eaten. I'd advise to get some small plates and expand the menu using items already in stock. Why can't I get fries as a side but I can get them as an appetizer? Why isn't a side included with my sandwich and the price just $2.50 higher? My food tasted great. Some people were confused by the parking situation, but I went on a rainy Tuesday and had no problems. I had no issues or concerns, whatsoever, about the beer. The emerald city ipa was delicious and an acceptable substitute for Osirus. I was impressed by the selection of the guest taps. I'd go back and I'd expect things would probably be a little better next time.

Last weekend I called Towyard to plan a surprise birthday party for my wife. We had about 35-40 people and the space was fantastic. Chef Patrick prepared full chicken wings, keggers, and fried pickles for the guests. They even had live music and he was nice enough to sing happy birthday. Brooke and Caitlyn were the waitresses and devoted all of their time and attention to us - it really was fantastic. It could not have been a better experience. A lot of the guests were first timers and they loved the new Rye beer and Horse Power. If you haven't been to this new spot downtown, it is well worth it. Owners Sean and Randy are onto something here!

Let me get the bad out of the way. Husband and I went on Saturday for our first time and inquired about a tasting flight. TWELVE DOLLARS. For five 5 ounce pours. I almost choked, but I hadn't had anything to drink yet. From the baffled/astonished/horrified look on my face (um, and the fact that I said to my husband, "THERE IS NO WAY WE WILL PAY 12 DOLLARS TO TRY BEER.), she must have deduced she was going to lose customers. She then said we could try just SMALL pours of a one or two of their beers. (Note: she also said, "It's like getting 1 1/2 beers for that price." Yeah, well, unless there's something magical about the beer, I'm not paying $8 for a pint of it anyway, so that's not a selling point.) But we each tried the Hook Up Shandler and I am pleased to tell you that it was DELICIOUS. A blend of their golden ale and a grapefruit soda, it was like Leine's Summer Shandy, but good and with flavor. The servers were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the products. Their food menu looks awesome, and we will most certainly be back for lunch or dinner soon.

We ordered The Wrecker. They were completely flat. No head whatsoever. Ordered a growler of Horse Power. It was better but the growler was just a blank one with a Tow Yard sticker on it. Didn't try any food but the menu looked good. This place does have potential. Great location. Great view out on the patio.

Good food, great beer slow service if you are not at the bar. Ran out of silverware for our dinner. Called ahead for a large party and was not prepared. Staff was friendly once we saw them, but would suggest getting a table in the front to get better service.

This review is subject to change as I feel like a lot of the problems I have with Tow Yard are minor and can be fixed. I get that they are working out the glitches. First off, food. That actually deserves 5 stars. We had a couple sandwiches, were really happy with both. The bread they put the Prohibition on was amazing. We also got some pork nachos. Also amazing. Atmosphere was great too. Nice, clean building. Very open. Love that a lot of fresh air gets in as the main eating area has a wall which opens to the outside. Downsides: We were really disappointed with the beer list, which is a big deal as we went here hoping for some good beer. Extensive list but it was all IPA's. Not a lot of variety. If you like wheat beer, which I love, it's disappointing. As far as Tow Yard's beer: They have one type they will eventually sell to the public but aren't as of yet. Instead they offer up a sample of the beer. Ours was really warm, like disgustingly so. I feel like the brewery is better not offering up even tastes of it until they can serve it up right. And finally, this is minor but was odd to me. My table got an appetizer to share and was told there are no small plates to share the food amongst us. So we just pass this basket around the table? Seems like there should be some other option. We decided we'll go back, but are going to a few months in hopes of a five star review then:)

If you see this review and think "OMG that is way to long to read" just scroll to the bottom, I've summarized it in a few sentences. I too hate reading novel-like reviews. Tow Yard is our go to place. Great beer, great food, and amazing atmosphere. The food: While we haven't tried many things, the items we have tried are phenomenal. The Carnitas Fries are to die for--- waffle fries with pork, queso, buffalo sauce and so much more. Seriously, try them! The wings are the best wings I've ever had. They aren't like the puny wings you get other places. They are seasoned and cooked to perfection, I could eat them without sauce! However, do not pass up the Jamaican Relish dipping sauce. It's a great mix of sweet and zesty. And they are Thursday night's special at $1.50! The Beer: They all have a unique flavor, and all so good. I recommend going on a Friday for the first time. They have beer flights on special for $5. It's a great way to try their beers and determine which ones you like best. The Hook-Up is a must!!! It's refreshing and perfect for a Spring/Summer day. You cannot go to Tow Yard and not try this beer. Besides Friday's $5 beer flights, they have $10 pitchers on Thursdays. The pitchers are huge, we got over 4 glasses! Planning on going another night? No worries, they have specials most if not all days of the week. The atmosphere: I really enjoy it. It's always busy, but I've always felt very welcome. The wait staff rocks! Always very nice and tentative. We go on Thursdays for open mic night! We got there a little early tonight and were finished eating before it started, however our waitress insisted that we hang out for a bit to watch that night's performers. She didn't seem to mind at all that we were taking up one of her tables, even though we were finished. In a nutshell: drinks specials all week long, $10 pitcher Thursdays and $5 flight Fridays. Order a Hook-up, the wings ($1.50 on Thursdays), and carnitas fries. Also, Open Mic night on Thursdays!

Incredibly nice venue....very hip and interesting. Super nice people, enthusiastic about their products as you would expect. I particularly liked their Oatis Redding Imperial Red....perhaps not spelled correctly...and This was one of the 1/2 barrel kegs I bought for NYE party. The other Osiris....Osiris being a bit more crowd friendly...however....the Tow Yard beer went nearly as quickly as the Osiris...which was a bit surprising as the Oatis has a very unique flavor profile. Osiris empty by 3 a.m. ....and a few gallons left of the Oatis for breakfast . Many people commented and asked about the Oatis....good for Tow Yard as they now have about 80 new friends. Easy place to buy a keg...and they loaded it for me ! ....also....cops as comedians. Cop comes into Two Yard...."who has the black BMW wagon ?"...... I do ? .....cop "well, its been loaded on a wrecker and is being towed".....me...."I am just parking their for second to load the beer"....cop...."just kiddidng !" thousands of comedians out of work...and this guy shows up !

I've been to this place a few times and, while not great, it has a prime location and ok food. Today we sat outside for ten minutes and never saw a server. I went inside and grabbed some menus and told a worker we needed service. After another 5 minutes I gave up and left and will never go back.

I hate to leave a bad review, but this place just didn't do it for me. There is a lot of competition in the local beer market. If your beers aren't good, you'll be in trouble. I had a sampler and found everything to be pretty bad with one exception: the Hook up shandler. This wasn't "pretty bad," but in fact the absolute worst beer I've ever tried. It is combined with a citrus soda, and the end result is far worse than you would imagine. To each their own, obviously, and if you enjoy it, great. Service was bad the two times I dropped in. I waited at the bar a long time for service. I didn't try the food, so I can't comment on that. The location is a bit out of the way, but they do have a full sized parking lot, which is nice if you're driving. Why would you, though? There are countless options that are walkable and fantastic downtown.

Went with a friend who works here and got a little bit of everything. The pretzel bites were really good and all the sandwiches looked phenomenal. Out of the beers, the Rasputin was my favorite. Kinda high ABV but really rich and tasty.

So my rating is more like 4.5, but you can't choose that. The food and drink menu is small, but I think enough for a small, fledgling brewhouse. The in-house beers are $5 pints, everything else they serve [craft] is roughly $6 & up. Wine is also served. I had their IPA which isn't too hoppy for an IPA, which is perfect for me. Very nice, clean finish. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. My friend got their golden ale and tried to push through the pint [didn't really like it], she was offered another pint on the house & declined. The [hefty] glass of wine wasn't too much better in her words. Thurs is "Wing Night" so instead of $10/lb [4 wings] they're $1.50/pc [$6.50]. These are not skimpy wings! The homemade bbq is awesome, they make it in house.

Tow Yard has only been open for about 2 weeks, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt and looking forward to trying it again once they've worked their yayas out. I'd watched the renovations come together on my commute home from work and was so excited for the addition to Indy's craft beer community. That said, I was really disappointed when Hubs and I went in for an after-dinner drink Saturday night to find that they had roughly the same beer selection as the place we'd been. We got a small taste of what's brewing - I'm excited about 2 of the three. It feels like they're confused about what they are. They'll figure it out. Until then, it feels like a restaurant with an eye on local beers from around the city. I didn't try the food, but it looks like quite the menu. There's a deli counter hidden in the back - it looked closed when we got there at 8 on a Saturday night. There are tanks for - what I assume - will be /their/ beers, which will hopefully come front and center. Definitely close to Lucas Oil Stadium, Bankers Life Fieldhouse and a lot of nightlife options. I'll keep it on my radar when I can walk from work or am heading to other activities downtown. Fingers crossed.

Great view is all I really have to say good about this place. The beers were mediocre at best. The Shandler is down right disgusting! Not a place for a real beer lover, just another sports bar (with sandwiches). Tow Yard seems to be too focused on getting "big" fast and less on becoming a part of the local Indy beer scene.

  • Dylan E.

For calling themselves a brewery, they need to seriously up their brewing game. I think their options included an IPA, a DIPA, and a golden ale the last time I was here, which is actually 1 more beer than they had the time before that. They will also take their golden and pour some pop into it and call that a different beer if you like sweet drinks. They are saved by the fact that they carry a decent selection of other craft beers, both from large and small breweries. I think that they unfortunately rank dead last in Indy for their own brewed beer though. A lot of it has to do with having such a small number of options without much variance, but they also don't do any of the ones I have had exceptionally well, which is to be expected when you aren't making a lot. Now, the space is a different story. The room is great with a whole bunch of wood, a large bar with their brewery as the backdrop, and an enormous collection of cans that line the walls and are fun to look at. They also have a nice large patio and big garage door windows that open up and let people sitting on the beer railing along the inside to look out and get some fresh air. It's a big space with high ceilings and plenty of seating. They left a little bit of the industrial feel that came along with the building, and I like it. The location itself isn't that great though. The view from the patio isn't anything to brag about, and mostly overlooks industrial buildings or old parking lots, but you can see downtown in the distance. It's in an area of town that isn't considered nice, but it is within walking distance of Lucas Oil and would make a good stop before a game that might not be as crowded as a place like Slippery Noodle. It's also about a block from the Red Garter, but if you find yourself there you probably drank too much already. There is some car parking in a lot, but there is nowhere to park a bicycle. It looks like food is a huge part of their business, and what they have looks good. Unfortunately, I haven't ever been in here to eat, so I can't rate that part of the brewery. Tow Yard Brewing has been open for a while now, and they haven't made a lot of progress as far as beers go. I hope that they start experimenting and can bring an amber or stout to the regular menu, which are some basics that every other brewery in town has available. Then add a few unique ones on top of those, and it'll be on the same page as its competitors. I just can't justify going here to limit myself to 3 local beers when there are so many other local breweries that bring a wide range of options that are all just as good, even though their patio and building are unique. I will hopefully be able to upgrade my ranking a little if I ever make it back here to try some food. This would have been a 2.5 star rating, but not having tried their food gives it the rounding up for the benefit of the doubt.

Beer was good and sandwiches were alright, however when we asked the waiter if the chips were made there he danced around then lied about them being made in someones home then brought to the restaurant, and the amount of chips they gave me was sad and looked like i got the end of the bag. Not worth the money especially when the sampler flight was 12.00 (price not on menu, never would have thought it would be so high) a normal pint was 5-6... I wont ever return!

I really wanted to like this place. I wanted it to have good beer and good food at a decent price. The problem is, it has these things (horsepower 2x IPA being my top pick), but I still don't like it. You get the feeling that someone really wanted to own their own brewery, so they opened one, but they don't know how to successfully run it. As an example- our work cafeteria credit card machines weren't working today, so I thought I'd head across the street to give TY another chance at impressing me for lunch. I walked up to the deli counter (next to the big chalkboard wall menu and cash register with person idly standing behind it) and was told by said person I could only order a sandwich to go from a server or bartender. I told the guy it's not big deal, I just wanted a quick sandwich to go, and was again told to find a server. I didn't want to deal with that hassle (TY service is friendly but notoriously slow... earning it the name "slowyard" among colleagues) so I headed next door to Subway instead. Again- I really want to like TY. I want to grab lunch there from time to time, go for after work beers, etc, but I think I've given them 8 chances and I'm still waiting for them to impress me. That is, impress me enough to make it off my 'last time sucked, but since they're so close let's give them another shot' list. All the pieces are there, they just need to get their proverbial "stuff" together.

I hadn't heard much about Tow Yard but decided to stop by during a Colts game to grab some drinks. The space is amazing. Very open but wasn't too loud. I enjoyed the location of Tow Yard being near Lucas Oil. Now I am only giving it 3 stars because the service was not the best. Our waitress was very friendly but there was just not enough staff. As far as their beer goes, it was okay. Now I am not the biggest beer connoisseur by any means but I did not love the beer. I tried a few and they seemed a little bitter for me. I will definitely go back to give it another shot though because of atmosphere.

From their menu [with my comments]: $10 [for small bits of] crispy alligator + [3 slices of] tomato + [2 slice of] cucumber + [3 slices of] Vidalia onion + [few sticks of] bell pepper +[1] banana pepper + croutons [to make you think there is more alligator] + [I couold not find] smoked bacon + honey-lime dressing [on the side].

I had my hopes up so hight for the Tow Yard and we left so disappointed. If we didnt have a Groupon to use we would had walked out before we ordered anything. After being told it was open seating it was a good 15 mins before the same girl came to use. We asked for a couple samples cause it was our first time there. She brought them and left again. When she came back we ordered the beers and food, didnt want her to leave again. I ordered the Prohibition. It is a $9 sandwich that had brisket provolone cheese avocado & a horseradish garlic mayo. It came with no sides! For an additional $2.25 you can get chips and a pasta salad. So I did. It came out as 2 pieces of a 3" sandwich. All I could taste was the avocado and horsadish. There was 2 small slices of brisket thats it. Remember this is a $9 sandwich! The older pictures on Yelp are not accurate. The sandwiches are smaller and they no longer do the boards. They have one. Was told that they took too long to make and was backing the kitchen up. We will not be back!

The atmosphere is pretty fantastic, especially with the open-air seating and side bar. We were greated promptly and encouraged to find a seat wherever we liked. Things went downhill pretty quickly after we sat down however. It took a little while for our server to find us- no big deal. After she dropped off the waters and took a drink order, little did we know that would be the last we'd ever see of her. Someone else swooped in a few minuted later to drop off my beer...poured with a good 2-3 inch head. A lousy pour by any standard, but simply inexcusable at a brewery. I wish I could say how their other beers and food were, but after waiting for at least 20 minutes for our server to appear, our glasses empty, we put some cash on the table and left. I really wanted to like this place.

April 2014-Open about a month, this looks like a hit. My friend and I went on a Thursday, early, and it was already packed. It's a large space with two bars, a deli and a cafe, in addition to lots of regular seating. Looks like they will also have some outdoor seating. My friend had the Pig Vicious sandwich, which he really liked. I had the Deli Lama vegetarian sandwich. It was a little bland for my taste and too large, with a bagel, to eat gracefully. Both sandwiches needed a knife and fork, which were plastic and did not hold up very well. Maybe they had regular silverware. We didn't ask. Music in the background was trendy and not too loud. We sat at a bar and had good service. Great beer selection and another industrial-chic ambiance. Worth a return visit.

Went here with three friends. Really wanted to like the place. The location is great and the place has a great atmosphere and tons of space. We all ordered the 5 beer sampler and tried each of the beers on tap. The Shandler was too sweet for everyone. It was described as someone taking a bud light and dumping a cup of sugar in it. A couple of us thought the golden ale was decent. The remaining three beers were just ok. They were sold out of the stainless steel growlers which look very nice. Will probably head back once they rotate through some new brews.

Simply really bad beer. The food is decent but if you call yourself a brewery take the time to make good beer.

First of all, am I allowed to brag that I'm good friends with one of the brewers at Tow Yard? He makes good beer with a little bit of knowledge and a whole lot of love. Tow Yard is a wonderful new addition to Indianapolis' growing brew scene! There's a beautiful view of downtown from the brewery (indoors and out) and it neighbors both Lucas Oil and Bankers Life. Alongside the delicious beer selection, they also cook up some damn good food. Pretty and smart! My favorite beers so far are the Emerald Circle IPA and the Horse Power double pale ale. The Hook Up is solid, though it's a little too sweet for my taste. If you're into less beery beer, this is for you. Their food is amazing. I ordered the Gator Done sandwich, beautifully made with fried alligator, tomato, lettuce, remoulade, Jamaican jam, and grilled onions. Holy smokes was it good and filling. My girlfriend ordered the Loxahatchee salad, also consisting of crispy alligator and a plethora of greens. The waitress recommended the alligator because A) it's delicious; and B) the alligator always sells out almost instantly. We jumped on the opportunity to eat these prehistoric creatures. We also shared an order of Carnitas fries created with waffle fries, churasco pork, queso, lettuce, shredded cheese, pico, and a secret house-made sauce. I could have eaten these all day. I definitely recommend turning to Tow Yard for good beer, good food, and a good atmosphere.

Easily the worst brewery I've been to, and I've been to MANY breweries. The food is ok, but way overpriced. The beer is boring. All very typical flavors. Service was horrible. I'd be surprised if they stay in business very long. I'd recommend going to literally any other brewery in Indy. You'll be a lot more satisfied somewhere else!

Love this place. Tonight had two flights of beer, to determine our favorite. All were good. Cheeseburger was awesome, Bougainville and Prohibition, both sandwiches, we're fantastic. Carnival fries are worth ordering again. Followed up with cake pops and sweet potato cheesecake. Everything was the best.

I need to give Tow Yard another chance when I'm in a different frame of mind but my first impression wasn't great. We stopped by Tow Yard on a Friday night at about 10:30 p.m. and they seemed to be overwhelmed, despite a seemingly small crowd. It took nearly 20 minutes to get the draught I ordered while sitting at the bar. I think in another light, Tow Yard has the potential to be a great place to grab a local craft beer and kick back with friends. I just don't know if they're ready for the weekend crowds their location will pull.

It seems this place opened so suddenly. I think this is going to be a great venue throughout the summer and especially during football season. Finally a good reason to go south from downtown. You must admit that South street has really been the limit before now. And no better reason....beer made local.

Three stars primarily on service however it improved as the evening went on. Took a while to get menus. Finally three different servers stopped by to get things rolling which was a bit awkward. Once we settled in with a server things went well. Food is pretty good and the beers are good but not necessarily stand out in what is becoming a crowded brewery field in Indianapolis. They do get high marks for the breads that are made in house. The Pig Vicious is a pork lover dream. Pork ham and bacon together with lettuce and a very tasty mustard based sauce. The Carnitas Fries is a very unique nachos approach and tasty. Note: sandwiches come with absolutely no side which is agitating. No chips no pickle nothing. You can order chips and a side together but not separate which is also agitating. They do get five stars for the view of downtown. It is exceptional and the outdoor seating compliments it well.

Really nice brewery. I had the pumpkin beer and that was really tasty. We also had a couple apps, pretzels and pork carnita fries. It was all pretty good the flight of beer was a little pricey. I would go back again.

The taproom looks cozy and fun. I can see this being a great summer hang out with the whole wall open to outside. We only tried the pretzel bits (which were very tasty) so I'll have to come back to try the sandwiches. The Larder menu looks great. The beer wasn't ready yet either. I guess I just came too soon! They gave tiny tasters of their beers and they were all pretty solid for their style. The Shandler will be a nice summer drink. First impressions were great, I'll have to report back when I can try a sandwich with a full pint.

While in for my first try the service was friendly and excellent. 5 stars for service and the serving crew. I would try the flight just to get an idea of their beers before committing to a pint or a growler fill. The double pale ale was the one I liked the best out of all of them. I look forward to coming back and trying the sandwiches which looked awesome. The space is great. Location. Location. Location. The beer does need a little work but these are the early batches and just getting started here. I am looking forward to seeing what seasonal brews might bring. I got to tag along with a group doing a tour of the back and was impressed with the set up, tanks and what I briefly saw of the brew process. I can tell Tow Yard will be a worthy competitor. I will be back and check it out again soon.

We went to tow yard when they first opened and the food was amazing. We just went back this week and found that the food has not maintained its quality. We were disappointed. The bread was hard, servings smaller, and chips were different. The food was still ok, certainly, but not as good as it had been. Maybe it was just an off night, but we were sad that the quality has gone down. The beers were good though!

Good beer, friendly service. You can't purchase package beer on Sundays in Indiana so I decided to get a bullet for the road just to have some local Indy beer. They were out of bullet caps at the time but one of the employees gave me the cap off of her's so that I could take some beer with me. Very much appreciated.

Had a great experience. Staff was really friendly, gave great advice on all food and drinks tried all house beers as well. Definitely got crazy and mixed two beers for the fun of it! All food was extremely fresh and all ingredients have their location of origin on the menu. Cool place, awesome experience.. Definitely plan to be a regular.

Hopefully, I'll have the opportunity to change this review at some point in the future, (after the dust settles), but for now, 3 stars, primarily based on horrible service and mediocre (at best) beer. (The food and decor are the only redeeming qualities, at this point.) A small group of friends and I visited a week or two ago because we're always exploring Indiana craft beer and locally owned restaurants when we go out. Upon arrival, we were immediately impressed by the location, the patio, the views and the appearance of the place in general. Things went drastically downhill after we took a seat. The service was NOT good (and I tend to be very forgiving, having spent 12 years in the industry myself). Here are my major complaints: #1 the server was slow and inattentive and I did not feel they were THAT busy, I could be wrong #2 there were not enough menus to go around and the server took our 1 menu before he took our order (which of course, then we had nothing to refer to) #3 the beer is mediocre and a bit pricey at $5 a pop #4 it took over 20 minutes to get our second beers, a shandy which I did not enjoy or finish #5 silly, slightly offensive, irrelevant and unexplained names for food on the menu Upside? It's a beautiful restaurant/brewery, location, etc. The food is pretty good, although the vegetarian sandwich, the "Deli Lama" is overkill with hummus and a huge falafel patty. I'd recommend splitting this into choice of or 2 different dishes. I really wanted to like this place. I'll keep an eye on it and possibly try it again in a few more months, but for now, it is totally off my radar.

The good news - Tow Yard's beers are good. I'm looking forward to sitting on the deck and enjoying the view of downtown once it warms up. It has a deli. The bad news - I had a pork sandwich, the ingredients are good but the bread is terrible (cheap), and poorly assembled. Service was bad and its obvious that the staff wasn't trained. It has the feel of a McBrewery - very clean, lots of reminders that you're at Tow Yard. It's atmosphere is that of a high-volume, high-turnaround, drunk college kid before a football game kinda bar (that's my first impression). But, it is a brewery. Tow Yard's beers are very good. I'll check it out in a month. It felt like its opening was rushed, so the staff is still learning and the food has time to improve. Recommendations - Buy some locally made breads, tell people about the deli when they walk in, and be patient - customers can't even buy a Tow Yard beer at this time!

They had some excellent beers on tap, but none of their own beer yet. This bar is really new so a lot of this things that could be issues could also just be kinks. We ordered just about all of their appetizers and each got a sandwich. Their smoked wings were really tasty. They were the whole wing and drumette all connected. The meat was smokey and really tender. It was delicious. Their pretzel bites were really good but nothing special, I just love pretzel bites. The highlight of the apps was their loaded carnitas french fries. Smothered in pork, BBQ and cheese, these things were delicious. Only complaint is there were two of us sharing the dish and it was tiny. Sadly this small portion problem continued on to the sandwich. I got their roast beef sandwich and when I asked the server if I should get a whole or half, she described them as huge. Luckily I had been drinking and was hungry so I stuck to my guns with the whole sandwich. It was tiny. Probably 8 inches long and only three inches wide if that. It had been pressed so it all seemed just a bit thin. Quantity complaint aside, the sandwich tasted awesome. The meat was juicy and warm and onions were perfectly caramelized. I am excited to give these guys another try because everything was so tasty.

Great atmosphere even in the cold weather. You can see where they open up the garage doors in warmer temps. Band was setting up as we were leaving, wished we came a little later. Nice selection of beers for all tastes. The carnitas fries looked like a pile of leftovers all piled up but they were amazing! We ate every bite. Small menu but perfect pairings for the beer. Service was great too, attentive.

The two stars are for location. If you can't decide on something good driving through town, this is the last stop before the highway. Ok beer, plain food, and poor service. They might survive on traffic overflow, but not return customers.

Finally tried their brewed beer, probably the worst brewed beer in town. I got one of the smaller bottles to go and the waitress told me it was $5.50 then charged me $5 extra for the cheap plastic bottle it came in, how shitty is that? She was super rude when I asked her about why it's $11 instead of $5.50. I for one will not be going back to this terrible brewery, plenty of better ones in Indianapolis, I give it 6-8 months before it closes.

I met up with my sister and some old friends the Tuesday before NCAA weekend. My sister started with a flight, nice that flight menu can be interchanged. I loved the brown ale, my sister liked an IPA and our friends drank Stout and IPA's all evening. My sister had the carnita fries, they were excellent! I reluctantly ordered fried pickle spears(I prefer the chips)and they were really good, only the dipping sauce could've been better. I've worked in food service, Thai Chili sauce I can find at Walmart. Something with horseradish maybe? The tables and chairs on the patio absolutely need to be changed out, if you are sitting back in those chairs and reach for your beer on the table, you WILL tip forward, very poorly designed. Those are my only negatives. Our server made sure those who needed it had Ãœber's to get home safely(shame on me for not getting her name) The view was amazing, I had a great first visit and will definitely be going back

The Good: Free parking right next door. The house-brewed beer selection is somewhat limited (they only make 4 beers in house, none of which are stouts or porters), but everything we tried was excellent. There were another dozen or so brews from other craft breweries on tap. They also have a nice variety of house-made pop. The food selection is very limited - not much hot food at all, but they do have some creative sandwiches, and they offer meat and cheese boards with some interesting choices. The Bad: There is no host table, and no waiting list when there are no open tables. Just a free-for-all where you have to either work out a line with other groups, or vulture over a table until they're done. Only the back section by the deli allows patrons under 21, so we couldn't sit out on the deck or even in the main section with the big windows. Once we were directed back there by a server who wouldn't/couldn't let my 16 year old daughter sit on the deck, we did snag a table within about 10 minutes. After at least 15 minutes of sitting at a dirty table trying to catch a server's attention, I walked up to the bar and ordered some drinks. While carrying the drinks back to the table, I finally was able to stop a server to ask her who had our table. She told us then that the deli tables in back are counter service only. You can't even see that there is an order counter and menu board around the corner. This server then offered to take care of giving us table service anyway. However, she was very frazzled. She brought our meat and cheese board out at the same time as our sandwiches, and then the pretzel bites we had also ordered, 5 minutes later. She continued to be hard to hail for beer refills, so I ended up walking back up to the bar. All in all, I'd say that Tow Yard has potential because of good beer, interesting, although limited food, and a great location within a couple of blocks of Lucas Oil Stadium and Bankers Life Fieldhouse. However, their staff (with the exception of the guy behind the bar) is nowhere close to ready for prime time.

Skip this one and go to one of the other local breweries. I ate/drank here with several friends on Saturday 6/14. I ordered the prohibition sandwich(roast beef). It sounded awesome in the description. I wish I would have taken a picture. There was one tiny piece of roast beef and it was smashed totally flat. For $8.99 I expected at least a couple of pieces of meat. The sandwiches don't come with any sides so I left very hungry. My buddies ordered sandwiches as well, the 'el jefe' was the only sandwich with a decent amount of meat. I also ordered the hookup shandler, if you like orange pop, you'll love it. I didn't. The location is awesome, the food is not.

I was really hoping for more. It's possible that all the negatives we experienced are just kinks that still need to be ironed out. What they've done with the space and their location gives them a lot of potential but for now I don't think we'll be back for at least a month or two. We arrived at around 9 p.m. on a Saturday and were greeted by no one. The place was only half full and we saw at least ten employees on the floor. Three of those employees walked by us looked and then waked away. We seated ourselves on the patio, which does have a fantastic view, and struck up a conversation with a few others. After a few minutes I ventured to the bar for a beer. I never thought getting a beer at a brewery would be so difficult. I stood up at the main bar for at least five minutes while six workers walked past. Finally when a woman did stop she just said "What do you want?" I asked what they had that was brewed there and she replied nothing right now and walked away. I had to yell across the bar to get her attention to come back. When she did I asked for an Osiris, which was on draft, and she proceeded to pour it straight up and down. The result was a beer with 50% head. Instead of pouring some out or just getting a new glass she let it sit for a few and then would add more beer until she got a full glass. During this ten minute beer trip another server came up and was handing out menus, I requested one and he must not have heard so I cannot speak to the food. The last thing that happened was another server handed me two beers which were not mine. I told him they weren't mine but I saw who ordered and paid for them and it was a man sitting outside across from us. I made it clear I did in no way no this man and the servers response was "Right could you tell him his beer is here." and left. I did not know this man so it was fairly awkward to go tell a stranger he needed to get his beer. Look I'm in the industry myself so I get things happen, however I am just going to guess there is no training for servers in customer service or how to properly pour a beer. My friends and I go to places specifically for service. Maybe in the future they'll get it together however right now I have no interest in going back.

They don't have their act together. Cook wasn't there yet, "kids" section not ready yet, can't park because of pacer game. Simple as that. There are too many good choices nearby. Don't waste your time; I sure won't again.

I thought this was a great place to grab a beer, sit outside, and enjoy the after work crowd. The server was a 17 year old space cadet. I'm sure that he meant well, but he was so new it was faster to read the beer menu off the white board than him remember the draft list. I still feel like the place is coming into their own. The good location at the back would be unknown if I had been with a regular. I did enjoy my sandwich of the Pig Vicious. We had the sampler of three "house beers". I say "house" because you can only sample and not purchases pints yet due to not brewing in house. The beer menu was confusing due to being out of half of the listed beers. I think maybe just a weekly rotating pamphlet would be better than a menu with 10 X marks... just cleaner visually. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and look forward to more beers on draft and getting the staff 100% trained. I look forward to Colt's pre-games at this location.

The beer, service, and atmosphere is terrific. The food was limited to items raised or bred in Indiana, which seemed to limit the selection. I ordered the Greek salad with chicken. When it came I could not find the chicken. Seems the yellow tofu looking item in the middle was the chicken. Even the server told me that the salad didn't come with chicken, when I pointed out that the menu said differently, she came back and said "the yellow stuff in the middle was the chicken". Not so sure they will make it on the food, but hope the beer carries the financial baggage.

The location is nice and the food was good, but not worth the price. Extremely limited menu and, imho, over priced. The wait staff was friendly, although I'm not sure if they were "off" because they were new or what was going on. The restaurant was very clean and appears well maintained.

Great old warehouse space, and a big change since the winery was here. Beers are a good start, with the IPA at the top of the list. Good servers, nice crowd of downtowners, decent food, cool space. Just what the doctor ordered.

Decent food and beer selection, but it was pretty pricey. $60 for 4 beers, pretzel bites, wings and a sandwich.... A little much for us. The wait staff was very attentive, but seemed a little off at times - like they were new to serving in general. It's a great space with great potential - needs a bigger menu and lower prices.

Checked out this place right after they opened --- much larger than your standard brewery with a great looking (almost Goose inspired) menu, two bars and lots of tables. We tried a few of their brews that were ready and I am excited to have the Chandler this summer (sweet, light; but just perfect - even for a hop lover like me). I will say we paid $9 for some pretzel nuggets (maybe 20 little bites?), so probably would advise against making that decision. Looking forward to see this place fully open and busy -- love to see the near south downtown area get some love and development!

I started with the Hook Up Shandler and Goldie Hops combined and it was great! One of the best beers I've had! I also got the prohibition sandwich with pasta salad. Both of which were fresh and flavorful, I especially enjoyed the pasta salad. The staff were all knowledgeable and helpful when it came to both the food and beer. They also have wine but I didn't get to try, that will be just one more reason to come back!

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a beer drinker. However, I went to this brewery with my beer enthusiast boyfriend to accompany him for dinner. This place is mess from its menu to its service. We stopped in on a Wednesday night, though the place wasn't busy, our waitress seemed very confused. It took forever for her to wait on us. I fully recognize that this is brewing company and not a wine place, so I wasn't expecting much when I asked what red wines they have... the waitress couldn't tell me. She took another 10 minutes and came back with a list of wines by name - not by type of wine.. regardless, I had never heard of any of them. I choose one, it came.. ice cold in a brandy sniffer. Interesting...again, I didn't want to make a big deal... its a beer place after all. I took a sip and it was syrupy sweet. Not at all what I enjoy. it took 15 minutes to get another glass of wine this time it was served at room temperature. Finally the food came out which was another disappointment. My boyfriend got the falafel sandwich. I was embarrassed for it when it landed on our table. 2 small falafel round balls on a pita with some shredded lettuce.. blah. My sandwich was not any better.. it looked like it had been slopped together, and tasted just bland. Our "side" of chips looked like we had gotten the end of the Lays bag that they had to share between the two entrees- although the waitress raved about the chips. Mediocrity has become the standard for Indianapolis, so this place will probably still be here in years to come...anyway i digress.. 2 drinks and 2 sandwiches put us over 40 bucks with tip....It was NOT worth it. If all you want to do is have a beer - you may be okay, if your waitress doesn't get too confused, but DO NOT EAT ANYTHING HERE or order the wine!!!

Hmmm.... Lots of microbrewery-gastropubs are cropping up in Indy. Eventually the beer or the food has to stand out in order to last. The beer isn't good here. The menu is mediocre. Probably my first and last time here given all the other options that are available or coming available. I

In for lunch, wasn't very busy. the deli is terrific, I got the Tonya Harding sandwich and a side of cucumber salad. The sandwich and salad was terrific. I had some issues getting a beer as they ran out of their own beer and another I wanted to try. So dinging them on the rating for that, when I go to a brewery I expect to try their beers, so it was a bit disappointing it was out.

we came here after during the evening after the titans colts game at lucas oil. i was super impressed with the environment. i loved the feel of it and it was a perfect evening to have the garage doors all open. our waitress was very knowledgeable and educated on craft beer. being from nashville with so many breweries opening all the time, i will admit there was a slight feeling of newness about the brewery but nothing a little more time won't fix. i really enjoyed their ipa. also, they were super nice to us. it said they closed at 9pm (i think) online. as we sat and drank watching sunday night football i looked at my clock and realized it was 9:40 and we were the only people left minus one guy at the bar. i apologized and the waitress told us no problem, stay and watch the rest of the game. it was nice to not be run out. overall great place. i hope for good business for them!

I do not like IPAs so beer was not an option for me. The others in my group liked the beers. The server was either new or simply needs more training. She was unfamiliar with the menu and unable to answer questions about it. I ordered a greek salad. It took 40 minutes for our food to come and the server seemed to be avoiding us. The salad was just okay. The chicken had a funny flavor that was not any greek seasoning I am aware of and the dressing was bland. Probably won't try this place again.
