The Flying Cupcake Bakery Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I have been a long time supporter of The Flying Cupcake. Delicious cupcakes, unique flavors, inventive names (Burt Reynolds, anyone?) And it's a local business. What's not to love? I was totally blown away by the customer service this evening though. I visited the Illinois street location today from about 5pm-6pm with my two year old twins. I can't recall the name of the girl behind the counter's name but she was so sweet. She interacted with my kids and was so patient while they decided on a flavor. We ate in and at one point we had a fall off the bench. My daughter was fine, but it was a bit of a fall and it scared her pretty badly. This employee was so sweet trying to help calm my kids down (her sister was crying in empathy). She even brought them over a couple of "dolls" (read: ballerina cupcake toppers) to distract them and calmed them down. I was very appreciative and impressed!

The young lady at the counter was incredibly friendly and polite. The store was quaint and whimsical. The cupcakes I had were yum and moist! It was my first time purchasing Flying Cupcake, I live in Atlanta and have my go-to places there. So I was reliant on online review and suggestions from friends in Indy. Flying Cupcake won my business because they were one of the few open on Sunday and when I called ahead, they were super friendly and helpful on the phone. I purchased 2 doz cupcakes for an impromptu celebration and they gave me s $12 discount! They had quite the assortment of vegan cupcakes which was very impressive and appreciated!

I stopped in today to treat mah self and try a Skinny Fat Elvis cupcake. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the girl at the counter was today (versus the zombie I encountered previously). I drove home with my boxed cupcake, eagerly awaiting eating the chocolate/banana/peanut butter concoction. Just a few bites in I realized the "cupcake" was actually a mountain of hard frosting crushing an already thin cupcake... patty (please refer to my photo). This cupcake was entirely inedible, and I'm really surprised and saddened to see The Flying Cupcake cutting corners like this. I suppose I'll be seeking out my gluten-free treats elsewhere from now on.

Things you'll get here vs. the Massachusetts location: - slightly friendlier service, based on my experience - more flavor selection - a bigger shop overall Of the cinnamon, twilight (marbled vanilla and chocolate), and cookies 'n cream cuppies, the cinnamon was hands down the best! Yummeh. Moist cake, good frosting:cake ratio, and decent value!

Pros: Cute decor, good selection of traditional and unique flavors Cons: A bit pricey I stopped in here after lunch for a sweet treat, and I loved it! The colors and decor were retro and fun. However, in a cupcake shop, I am looking for mroe than just cute paint colors. I want a yummy cupcake! I found it here at The Flying Cupcake. I ordered a "Pretty in Pink" which was a strawberry cupcake with strawberry cream cheese icing. Deeeee-lish. The icing was a bit too sweet, but it satisfied my sweet tooth perfectly. I also sampled a penut butter and chocolate cupcake which was too rich for me, but just right for my boyfriend. All in all, I loved enjoying a cupcake in this little shop, and I'll be back for sure!

I loooovveee this bakery! Last August my aunt and I came across this adorable shop and fell in love! Everyone was so nice and very patient and helpful! Yes patient because we had a ton of questions for them so we could pick the perfect cupcake! Haha! They all look amazing so it is a bit overwhelming! This past weekend we had a "wedding BBQ" with the family and my aunt bought 4 dozen cupcakes! They were a HUGE hit! Even with my 79 year old grandma who does not like change at all! She ate and entire cupcake then took two home! I wish you guys were in St. Louis because I would def be a weekly customer! Next time I come to Indy I am for sure making it mandatory to come see you guys! Oh yeah the Burt Reynolds is my favorite! LOVE iT!!

Their cupcakes are great! They taste AMAZING! The carrot cake one is to die for. Cute shop. Great place to bring your kids into for a special treat. They have a flavor for everyone. Super friendly staff. Make sure you get cupcakes that have been made recently or the frosting can be a little hard.

My favorite cupcakes in the city! Red Velvet Elvis and Black Bottom are my FAVS! The service is mediocre at best. I always feel like the workers there are miserable and hate their job! I do not like that atomsphere. They make me feel like they are going to tell me to "hurry up and buy". I will keep going there for 1 or 2 cupcake at a time! But I will save my larger orders for a friendlier place that appreciates my biz a little more

I was driving through Indianapolis and yelped "VEGAN" and The Flying Cupcake Bakery popped up. We went to the bakery at 5617 N Illinois Street and it has a really cool flying cupcake statue outside. I assumed they might have one or two vegan varieties but was I SHOCKED when I walked in and they had tray after tray after tray of delicious and unique vegan varieties of cupcakes!!! They were SOO good, I ate two and took one to go. The woman working ended up being vegan (always such a nice surprise to meet a fellow vegan!) and she gave me all her vegan dinner recommendations in Indy. The only downside was they didn't have coffee so I had walk to the starbucks on the corner (booo) and get gross coffee. However, the delicious cupcakes and knowing I was supporting a local business made up for that though! I will be back here everytime I drive through Indy!!!!

Who doesn't love a cupcake? It's like a magical, personal cake made just for you. One bite will send you to a sugary, frosty, blissful cloud (or a coma if you are not careful...). The Flying Cupcake's decor always makes me think of Alice in Wonderland and I always want to have a little tea party with my cupcake. I want to try every single cupcake, I really, really do. But I can never leave without purchasing one of my two favorites, Red Velvet Elvis and Happy Birthday to Me. I usually end up bringing home 3-4 cupcakes; nibbling on a few and then inhaling down one of my favorites. I can't wait till my next magical cupcake experience!

Katie - Thank you for your response - I applaud you for answering my review. You may in fact have the best cupcakes in Indy, but that does not address the fact that the cupcakes were so stale that the family I brought them to eventually threw two of the four cupcakes out. Are you telling me that every cupcake that is not sold, is thrown out the day it is made ?? There is no false info in my review. The girl behind the counter told us point blank that the "Normal" cupcakes are brought in from the Carmel location. I reiterate, there is nothing false in my review, I just moved to Indy from the East Coast and at the price and the quality of the product you sell, I will never be back to your establishment. You are way over priced, and the quality is poor at best !! I apologize for being a little harsh on the "Vegan" comments but I have never eaten ANYTHING Vegan that I would ask for a second serving of. To me, "Vegan" is tantamount to the words "Sugar free". Almost inedible...

The only cupcake I was wowed by was the Chocolate Ganache. The cupcakes are inconsistent based on which store you go to and what time you pick up your cupcakes.

I have had cupcakes from various parts of The States and from multiple competitors in the area and I keep coming back to give my money to The Flying Cupcake. Thus far, nobody does a red velvet like a Red Velvet Elvis and what ever is in the bee one. Even when the staff is zipping around behind the counter filling orders and baking up fresh batches, I never feel like I am a bother. They drop whatever it is they are doing to help the customers at the cases, which a huge A+ in my book. Thank you, Flying Cupcake, for existing :-)

Had been meaning to come by here for quite a while and finally stopped in last weekend. Love the space and the atmosphere, very cute! SO MANY selections to choose from for a delicious treat! I ended up going whith the Red Velvet Elvis and German Chocolate from the regulary cupcake selection, and then the Coconut Lime from the Vegan/Gluten Free side. All were yummy, but I feel like the size of the Coconut Lime was a lot smaller than the regular cupcakes. The flavor was good, but size was kind of disappointing. The German Chocolate was by far the favorite for me and the hubs. It was moist, chocolatey, coconuty goodness! The Red Velvet Elvis was tasty, but a little dry and the cream cheese frosting was slightly too sweet. Dont worry thought, I still ate it :) I also got one of their new Pupcakes for the furry babies. I love that the proceeds from these are going to local shelters. I think this is a great idea. The pups LOVED their treat! I am pretty sure they just inhaled it, rather than actually tasting it, but either way it was well liked. I will definitely be back for a tasty treat whenever my sweet tooth gets the better of me :)

Today I walked into my office like every other Monday - coffee already spilled on my shirt, eyes half-closed, mind running through the day's to-do list, already behind schedule before I even opened my email. Then I stopped. On my desk sat a perfect little pink box. My heart jumped. It couldn't be. I couldn't be starting this Monday with cupcakes on my desk. But I was. Oh. But. I. Was. I opened the lid and two beautiful cupcakes stared back at me - a Red Velvet Elvis and a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I was through the roof at the incredibly thoughtful gift from a truly wonderful person. I've been wanting to try the treats from Flying Cupcake for a long time. So here's the deal - I wasn't a huge fan of the 'cakes. They were a tad on the dry side and were just kind of ordinary. I did like the more moderate use of icing than other cupcake places. I'd also like to note that these weren't the choices probably best suited to me - although certainly not the worst. I'm keeping my mind open because I desperately need to try the Homer Simpson Doh!Nut Cupcake. I used to order one similar from Crumbs and it was delightful. Perhaps the Butterbeer, the Blueberry Cream Cheese, and/or the Bees Knees, too. It's not over between us, Flying Cupcake. Until next time...

They really do have the best cupcakes in town...I love, love, love the "Here Comes the Bride", "Pretty in Pink", and "Cinnamon Sugar" flavors. The other cupcakeries just can't compare (sorry y'all).

The flying cupcake is by far my favorite cupcake bakery in indianapolis. They have fun flavors, cute decor, and friendly service. Also they don't over frost their cup cakes!!! They are a must for birthdays and even weddings.

Flying Cupcake, have I told you lately how much I love you? Our love affair started the moment I tasted the Red Velvet Elvis almost four years ago. The delicious red velvet cake mixed with chocolate chips topped with a dallop of cream cheese frosting. It was truly love at first bite. You keep me coming back through the years with so many delicious flavors: Happy Birthday, Bart Simpson,Candy Land, and Cloud 9 to name just a few of my favorites. I mean I could go on and on and on. You even show love to those desiring a vegan or gluten free treat. Oh Flying Cupcake, I love you so. I get excited like a child when I see Petunia delivering your sugary goodness across the city. I love you, Flying Cupcake. Don't ever change. :-)

I'm from a very small town in Illinois and the flying cupcake was my first fancy gourmet cupcake experience. I have to say, I get the hype now. yeah, gourmet cupcakes can get pricey however if you are living a vegan or gluten free diet then this place is Disney World to your sweet tooth. I grabbed a "its not a hoho remix" cupcake today that is vegan and gluten free and it was to die for. normally I wouldn't throw down 4 bucks on one cupcake but finding healthier versions of sweet treats is a pain. so thank you Flying Cupcake for going the extra mile for people with restricted diets!!

Call this a 3.5 star review. Firstly, I usually encounter very, very friendly service. Secondly, they can sometimes tend to be dry (the cupcakes, not the staff) Thirdly, the icing can sometimes be lacking. A few times, VERY lacking. Fourthly, the cupcakes still taste decent through the dryness and light-handed icing. And, lets forget the numbers for a second. I just want to say I am a non-vegan, non-vegetarian proud animal products consumer. I fell in love with the Flying Cupcake because of their imaginative and rich flavors. At this location, the non-vegan cupcakes are taking a huge backseat. Flavors seem much more limited lately. Respect to all the vegans out there. I don't understand it (well, I understand as In I comprehend the stated reasons, I just don't agree) but I respect it. And, yeah, I am sure I could eat one and find it tasty. At near $4 a pop? Give me some damn butter and eggs in my pastry, please. This used to be my go-to location. Now, I must rely on Mass Ave which can also be hit and miss on my desired flavors.

I dont see what all the hype is about flying cupcake. The cupcakes are mediocre at best. I have been to cupcake spots all over the U.S. and ive had better. I love red velvet cupcakes but the red velvet elvis is not good. The elvis has chocolate chips, which make it bitter. Also, the employees seem unfriendly.

This TFC location specifically wins my heart. With their extensive Vegan/Gluten Free selection, they now dominate the vegan treats market in Indianapolis. And, its not the selection or the niche that wins out alone. The cupcakes (and cookies!) are moist, beautiful, and delicious! Creativity is not lacking either. New flavors like Avocado/Orange dig deep into my taste buds. There is one serious con is the lack of appropriate beverages. If you are going to have seating to eat there, you might want to make available soy milk or coffee to fully complete the experience. If proper beverages were included, this location would be 5 stars!

With the addition of TFC Raw, they've won me over. My current vegan favorite is the black and white.

I ordered the red velvet elvis, which was mediocre. The cream cheese frosting was too sweet for me. I did not like that there were chocolate chips inside the red velvet. I thought their cupcakes were over priced for the quality you get. The cupcake presentation was very unique , cute and the fit the theme of the buisness.

We have tried all the other places in town for cupcakes. Some of them are very good. But none of them compare to the Flying Cupcake. They have by far the best cupcakes in town. My favorite is Here Comes the Bride (almond). My husband loves the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Twilight (marble with swirls of both chocolate and vanilla frosting). The cake to frosting ratio is perfect. They have the fluffiest, most moist cake I have ever tasted. We also tried some of their new gluten-free, vegan cupcakes. I still prefer the regular ones but I was pleasantly surprised how good these others were. Definitely still full of flavor and not a weird texture. We also love some of their creative seasonal flavors. This is a place to enjoy year-round!

My fave cupcake bakery. The quality has slightly diminished since the multiple locations- it's too much. Prob have the freshest selection at Carmel where they actually bake fresh.

NYC transplant here. Everyone makes such a big deal about Magnolia and Crumbs and they don't have anything on the FLYING CUPCAKE. FLYING CUPCAKE HAS THE BEST CUPCAKES IN THE WORLD BY FAR. Thank you for having gluten free, vegan cupcakes!

  • Miss X.

Couldn't put my finger on why I was not fond of THE FLYING CUPCAKE like others were. The cake always seemed dry and the frosting was grainy. So...I am looking at the store website only to discover that their products are vegan and gluten free. Well, no wonder. I am just not ready to do the healthy cupcake and will avoid this place ...that seems dirty and run down to boot.

Of the Flying Cupcake shops in the city, this one is my favorite and due to its location, probably the one I'm least likely to visit again. The cupcakes are the same as the other locations, as is the decor. What set this store apart from the others, in my opinion, was that we had the best service while we were there -- friendly and focused on the customer.

A girl needs to have her cupcakes! Having had waay too many cupcakes in life and dealing with the chubbiness in turn :) I consider myself somewhat of a cupcake crazed freak.. To be honest, I stopped by the Mass. Ave store and I stood outside for a good ten minutes waiting for someone to help me, but the sign said that the person at the desk had stepped out! I mean come on.... in the middle of the day?? Is this really good for business??? The last time I got half a dozen home yesterday and was disappointed..both with the icing n the cake on the whole..the icing gave out this after taste of vanilla essence while the cake seemed to be lumpy n have waaaay too much baking soda...overall NOT IMPRESSIVE..3 stars for the variety, large sizes cupcakes and friendly staff...

Best cupcakes I have ever had! You must try the signature Red Velvet Elvis, it is to die for.

  • Jeff Z.

The Flying Cupcake gets 5 stars from me because the taste of their cupcakes is the best I've had that can be purchased from a storefront. When I get a dessert craving - this is the first place that pops into my head (followed closely by BRICS). If you like chocolate, go with the Red Velvet Elvis cupcake. I've never been disappointed with it. There are tasty chocolate bits in the cake and the white chocolate cream cheese icing is a perfect compliment to the moist cake (the white chocolate isn't overpowering in the icing). Coming in right next to the Red Velvet is the Wedding Cupcake and if you are lucky and they have them, the Pink Champagne Cupcake. You better have a glass of milk handy to quench your thirst after each bite. It helps cleanse your palette so you can get every last scrumptious flavor drop out of your taste buds. P.S. Pretty in Pink and the Lemon Drop ain't half bad either. The Lemon Drop would soothe any sweet toothed sugar addict's cravings.

E H's review of their service isn't too far off base. Sometimes I'll stop by and the staff is incredibly polite, other times it seems like the people behind the counter could give two $H!+$ you're there. I'm cautious of upsetting anyone for fear of being told "NO CUPCAKE FOR YOU!" Are their cupcakes the best in town? YES! Does their customer service leave something to be desired? YES! At the end of the day I'm buying a $3.75 cupcake. As long as I can get my cupcake and go about my business, I don't care if the staff does or doesn't have a stick stuck up their... Flying Cupcake, your delicious treats deserve 5-stars, but your service knocks you down a notch to 4.

I've tried a couple of cup cake places around the city, and The Flying Cupcake is still my favorite one. The smell when you walk in is heavenly, and they have a great selection of cupcakes. I highly recommend the Red Velvet cupcake! It has a cute and cozy feel to it, but on the weekends I think they need more space. There are only a few tables that seat 2 people each in a very narrow area, so eating there is difficult at times.

  • Leslie R.

I stopped by the other day and picked up 3 cupcakes. A Red Velvet Elvis, a Pretty in Pink, and a new one to me...a Lemon Blueberry Zinger. This is what a cupcake place should be! Good cake & good frosting in a perfect combination. I know that some people say that cupcakes are just fad and that they would rather see these exclusive cupcake bakeries fade away, but for me.. it's rather a practical way to eat cake. I'm single and would rather not bake a whole sheet cake just for myself. That's why I will continue to love everything about the ubiquitous cupcake.

  • Betsy A.

You could say I like The Flying Cupcake...I bought 15 cupcakes on my first visit! Okay, so they weren't ALL for us.... The first thing you notice upon walking into this shop is the aroma of "from scratch" cake baking away and buttercream frosting being mixed up...it nearly knocks you over! If you grew up with a mom or grandma who was a big baker then the experience of TFC will be somewhat like jumping on a time machine and ending up smack dab in the kitchen of your youth and licking batter from the beaters! The other thing I adore here is the "shabby chic" retro decor....very cute, all the old knick-knacks, furnishings and display cases. The shop also has ice cream...apparently....I saw moms with little ones in tow ducking into bowls of what looked like gelato style treats. But honestly, I was too busy making my cupcake choices to concern myself with much else. I can't tell you which flavor is my favorite, as I am still working my way through my purchases at this writing. I do, however, give a big "thumbs up" to the Red Velvet Elvis - red velvet cake with chocolate chips and swirly cream cheese frosting - and the Pineapple varieties and hubby loved the Black Forest.

  • Yiting K.

Waaay better than Sprinkles or Crumbs in L.A . The large cupcakes are super moist. The smaller cupcakes tend to be dry. So stick with the big ones! I really wish they would serve tea or coffee to go with their cupcakes.

  • Kasey J.

The Flying Cupcake is absolutely perfect with its mix of pastels and bright icing ... it's pretty much exactly what you'd dream up if you were to have a sweet little dream about a cupcake shop. So sweet it makes your teeth hurt. That's when you know it's good. I tried only a couple cupcakes on my visit, mostly because the husband would freak out if I bought any more than that. I can bake a mean whoopie pie and cookies and cake myself, so paying $2.50 PER CUPCAKE was a bit expensive, in my opinion. (The only reason I'm not giving five stars.) But it's worth it to me. Maybe women just need these kinds of sweets more than men. Duh. What I bought: It's not a HoHo cupcake (great!) and Razzamatazz. Very good, too!

  • Mary H.

Why are you reading this and not driving there right now!!! If you like cupcakes you totally must go. The prices were good, the choices immense and the flavors lovely. I would rank it as some of the best cupcakes I have ever had! I generally do not rate places with 5 stars but it was amazing!

  • Claire K.

First of all, it makes me sad that this place has such good reviews. It just goes to show that it's all a matter of "perspective." The cupcakes here are gross. They are really dry and the icing is cheap, hard, and full of grainy sugar. The flavor is also lacking. In addition they do not serve hot chocolate, coffee, or tea. When I asked, the girl working there suggested I go to Starbucks. I know she was just being helpful, but if I wanted to support an international chain I would have gone to Starbucks in the first place. I was very disappointed.

Heard a lot of hype about this place, so was eager to try it. Went on Sunday afternoon, Mother's Day. Waited in line for half an hour. Only one person was working, so I hope the owners consider adding an extra staff member on holidays like this where many people will be interested in getting sweets. They had a menu on the wall, but it wasn't helpful - didn't explain what the cupcakes were, and couldn't see it from outside the building, where we spent most of our time waiting. When we finally got the counter, we - and seemingly everyone else in line - wasted more time trying to decide what we wanted, because most of the cupcakes didn't have cards explaining what they were. With 20 or so people behind us, we felt rushed and simply started pointing at the cupcakes and saying "we'll try that, and that, and that." The place could speed things up considerably with these display cards, and little laminated menus for people to peruse while they wait. The cakes themselves were quite good. I'll be back, but if the line's out the door, I won't wait half an hour for Flying Cupcakes.

The FCB is aces on cupcake size, variety, and creative flavor selection. In comparison to the other 2 cupcakery competitors in town, FCB has them beat! The shop is cute and warm, the staff is helpful when you are trying to decide on which of the many options to choose from. I definitely have had better, on taste FCB is a solid 3 stars for down home flavor. I love the higher end, haute cupcakes with italian butter cream versus traditional butter cream frosting, gnaches etc... The 4th star is more about your competitors. You are the best that Indy has to offer. Anytime, I'm in Indy you are the cupcakery I will head to for my sugar rush needs.

The Flying Cupcake is my go-to Cupcakery in Indianapolis. As my profile suggests, I've been to many cupcakeries, including some in DC, New York, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. The Flying Cupcake is definitely one of the best cupcakeries and bakeries I've been to across the country. The prices, although they may seem high, are comparable, if not better, than bakeries in other major cities. Each cupcake at The Flying Cupcake always has an amazing cake, which is always extremely delicious and moist. The Wedding Cake cupcake is a personal favorite, featuring an almond cake that is delectable! The frostings are rich and creamy. I love the atmosphere in The Flying Cupcake. It's a great 1950s/1960s feel, with modern elements. The unique decorations make it an enjoyable place. My only complaint is that they need more hours! I have wanted to go on Friday or Saturday evenings but they close at 8!

$2.50+ for a cupcake does seem a little steep, but it's right in line with every other "gourmet" cupcake shop I've been to. I had a red velvet elvis cupcake at a friends house a few weeks ago and really loved it. Today, I was craving cupcakes so I made the little drive over to pick some up. We got a peppermint twist, peanut butter blackout, boston creme pie and a pucker up (lemon). I had the peanut butter and a little nibble of the boston creme pie. Both were delicious. I can't wait to eat the lemon! I love the fact that the majority of their cupcakes (besides the red velvet) aren't gigantic. No one really needs to eat a cupcake the size of their head. The buttercream isn't too sweet. It was just perfect. The only bad thing is that it's only 7 blocks from the house I just bought... I'm afraid I'll be there too much! I can't wait to try the carrot cake one - YUM! Also, they don't have their full menu every day, so before making the trip you should call and make sure they have the flavor you want.

Pricey but once you get over the dollar sign (about $3.00 each) the cupcakes are sooooo incredible. You will find yourself well on the road to sugar high heaven.

  • Casandra M.

The hype doesn't match the product. The decor is absolutely adorable, the cupcakes are cute, but the frosting is hard and grainy and the cake is pretty standard Duncan Hines. I love cupcakes and desserts, and I'd get a Flying Cupcake if I was really, really in the mood, but I can't see myself craving these any time soon.

    (2)
  • Trevor Y.

The Red Velvet Elvis is one of the best red velvet cupcakes I've ever had...and I've tasted them in dozens of cities. I can't comment on the other flavors as this is a "treat/cheat" place for me, so I stick with my craving! The price is inline for the size of the cupcake.

Driving by looking at open houses this past weekend and saw this little store. When you first step through the door, it's like being transported to a simpler time. Cute candy-store kitsch decorates the walls. There is definitely a cupcake for nearly everyone here including the Lemondrop, Red Velvet Elvis, and Right-side up pineapple. The cherry filled chocolate was a big hit at our table. There wasn't much seating area for groups. Definitely a cute place to take a date.

Daughter's vote is in. Loved the cake, hated the frosting. I think it was just too sugary sweet. And this is coming from a three year old who was enamored with the idea of a cupcake called "Candy Land". There is such an idea as too much of a good thing, and overly sweet icing killed the perfectly done cake. Hopefully this will be remedied soon. However, there are other options available around town if they don't realize their faux pas.

...down the street from where i used to live is a tiny bakery called 'the flying cupcake bakery'... and if mary poppins could meet alice in wonderland meets 1950's housewife meets 5 year olds in pink tutus meets antique store meets totally amazing, you would get this super precious bakery. everytime i left that place i felt happier about life. maybe because im a chocolate addict or maybe because it emulates all the joy in the world thrown into a teeny space on a tiny street. or maybe because ive always dreeeeamed of opening my own cupcake shop. eitherway it is perfectly magical. ...plus.... if you order to go you get their lovely pink boxes! ive personally met one of the owners and shes as sweet as can be. to the reviewer below, perhaps you are too hard to please? these fine ladies have personally come to anthropologie with hundreds of cupcakes to hand out for free, and they were a massive hit with EVERYONE. and you cant make 500 cupcakes in one night. and no one (even the uppity ladies) thought they tasted 'old'... this is a fairly new business and i think they add a really special touch to the city. get the chocolate chai cupcake! it is AMAZING. they also make a really mean lemon curd filled cupcake. yummmmm.

They're ok... they weren't bad. And I'm only saying this because I've had the privledge of having Sprinkles Cupcakes from LA and they must put cocaine in their cupcakes because I'm having withdrawls and nothing will do. I don't think I'll ever have the desire to go back. Maybe if I'm in the area.

Red velvet is delicious and my absolute favorite. Be sure to get there before too close to closing time if you want a particular cupcake as they tend to sell out of flavors the closer it gets to 6pm!

Hands down the best cupcakes in town. I've done comparisons against Holy Cow and Gigi's - they do not compare to Flying Cupcake bakery. I've visited all three stores and the Mass Ave and Carmel stores are the best. I've see two comments about somewhat poor service and I agree - at the Illinois Street locaton I've had lukewarm reception and once had the door shut in my face by an employee and the closed sign turned over 10 minutes before closing. I will say that my complaint to the owner about that incident was responded to and taken seriously. Other times service there has been fine. Don't let any of that make you hesitate - the cupcakes are worth it so do not hesitate.

Love the carrot cake cupcakes! Can't wait for the Mass Ave location to open. I can already feel myself getting fatter! MMMMM

This place is so cute! I love the way it is decorated. The ladies that work here are very sweet and eager to help. I tried the "here comes the bride," made with almond cake and almond buttercream frosting, and the "birthday cake," with vanilla cake, buttercream frosting, and sprinkles. Everything was fresh and well made in my opinion. I definitely look forward to coming back and using their services for events!

I finally made it here this past weekend after reading the reviews. It is definitely way too cute to describe adequately. It's a kind of "comforting cute". All pastels - like you walked into your bedroom as a little girl and fell into your favorite pink, blue and yellow chenille bedspread - only surrounded by cupcakes, birthday cakes and gelato! Okay - did I do it justice? So now for the good stuff - the cupcakes! Be ready to have a large glass of milk when downing these sweet treats - My favorite was the vanilla with chocolate icing. I did have the Red Velvet because it's simply too hard to resist; but they put chocolate chips in the cake; and it just pushed me over the edge in sweetness and I have a huge sweet tooth! Anyway - a fun little discovery and thanks Yelpers for directing me here!

I just came back from L.A. and went to several cupcakeries there, and I have to say that Flying Cupcake is still better than any I tried. Now that I'm back in Indy, $2.50 seems like a bargain (They charge $4.00 in L.A.!) The Red Velvet at the Flying Cupcake is the best I've ever had.

Cupcakes were delish, however the selection was small. Maybe it was just random Sunday. The menu listed online is not a list of cupcakes they sell at all times like we thought. I got my heart set on some that were not available. I am always on a diet so it is a special treat.

I'm just an average guy who likes this little enclave of shops in this little neighborhood who stopped in for a coconut cupcake. The cupcake was great. Not what one gets at the chains. My only regret is that they are soo rich that I won't be able go back as often as I'd like.

I've had the red velvet cupcake twice. It's really good. I think The Flying Cupcake could have a little bit better selection. But that's not a big deal. I also wish all of their cupcakes where the larger size. I didn't get the one I really wanted because it was "normal" sized but still $3.75! I was being cheap that day and couldn't see paying $3.75 for a cupcake the size of the ones I'd bake in my own kitchen. Nevertheless, check it out. I'll go back.

If you've never experienced a dream in your mouth then you clearly have not been to The Flying Cupcake. I have yet to bite into a cuppie that didn't taste amazing. The icing is divine... always full of flavor and the cake is moist and equally flavorful. I always think, "Am I really paying $3.75 for a cupcake?" And then I remember that I usually burn or jack up all of my baked goods and realize that $3.75 is a small price to pay for a gigantic Red Velvet Elvis that I scarf down in seconds flat. Just go. Don't delay.

  • Jenna M.

First of all - the shop is EXTREMELY cute...I love walking in here - it's just so charming! I enjoy having "stuffed" cupcakes - and have been pleasantly suprised with some of the flavor combinations they put together. However, as other posters have said - the frosting is way too sweet...on my last visit I almost had a hard time finishing my cupcake because of the frosting. The cakes themselves were nothing special - the cupcakes that my friends and I had were almost too overfilled - so that the cupcake couldn't be picked up and eaten without a fork. I'd love to see some recipe tweaks made here - they are so close and already have some good things on the menu.

This delicious find always brightens my day. They have a good variety of flavorful cupcakes to choose from with witty names to match! If you are having a birthday party consider an order of cupcakes instead of a grocery store bought cake to spice things up. The treats are made fresh daily. The prices are not to bad either considering they are not mass produced from the same batter mix!

I was a bit disappointed on Labor Day this year. The website indicates they were to be open that day until 7pm (Monday). I went to the store at 5:05pm and to my dismay, a Closed sign was posted. There were no Labor Day signs. I stood there confused, then noticed the employee putting everything away. The young man saw me standing there for a good 3 minutes, and did not come over to talk to me. I wish there was some kind of indication of an early closing.

  • John O.

Waaay better than Sprinkles or Crumbs in L.A . The large cupcakes are super moist. The smaller cupcakes tend to be dry. So stick with the big ones! I really wish they would serve tea or coffee to go with their cupcakes.

Why are you reading this and not driving there right now!!! If you like cupcakes you totally must go. The prices were good, the choices immense and the flavors lovely. I would rank it as some of the best cupcakes I have ever had! I generally do not rate places with 5 stars but it was amazing!

I'm just an average guy who likes this little enclave of shops in this little neighborhood who stopped in for a coconut cupcake. The cupcake was great. Not what one gets at the chains. My only regret is that they are soo rich that I won't be able go back as often as I'd like.

LOVE iT!!

Waaay better than Sprinkles or Crumbs in L.A . The large cupcakes are super moist. The smaller cupcakes tend to be dry. So stick with the big ones! I really wish they would serve tea or coffee to go with their cupcakes.

Why are you reading this and not driving there right now!!! If you like cupcakes you totally must go. The prices were good, the choices immense and the flavors lovely. I would rank it as some of the best cupcakes I have ever had! I generally do not rate places with 5 stars but it was amazing!

The Red Velvet Elvis is one of the best red velvet cupcakes I've ever had...and I've tasted them in dozens of cities. I can't comment on the other flavors as this is a "treat/cheat" place for me, so I stick with my craving! The price is inline for the size of the cupcake.
