For a while this bar closed and I found out its because they got new owners. Well since the place has new owners a lot has changed. It was a crappy place before. Now they have redone the inside redone the menu. The food is EXCELLENT especially for bar food. The only time I was unsatisfied was a friday night I ordered food the waitress was not friendly made me wait 45 mins forgot to put my order in etc but I mentioned something to the manager and they had my food out and ready and on the house. They have a variety of items to eat. Lots of italian specialties. The stuffed meatballs are huge and homemade. I personally enjoyed the tenderloin. They frequently add items to the menu. They bar makes a great drink. I have never been shorted on my alcohol. You name it she can make it and if she cant just tell her what you want in it and she does it.

I have always had a great experience at Southport Bar & Grill. We go there a 1-2 times a month, we've sat at the bar as well as had a server. The food is great & reasonably priced, they always have great drinks specials too. I like the atmosphere at Southport Bar & Grill a lot more than any other bar in the area.

My 21 year old daughter & I had lunch there today. The band for tonight was setting up during our visit but that didn't bother us at all. I had a breaded tenderloin & fries that was pretty good & she had the prime rib sandwich which she loves. The bartender was also the server & Stacy did a great job making sure we were in good shape. A good value for the money. So far so good here. I'd recommend it for pub type food. We'll be back

Well, this was my first trip here. Came just to see Jambox. They are awesome. The service here is not so awesome. They are very busy but the very dark haired bartender acts like she hates waiting on customers. I think I'll go back to Driftys for live music!

Its an ok dive bar, but that's it. I went in a Saturday night, got a table, and waited 20 minutes and was not waited on. Just walked out.

I've been to SBG several times. It's a good place to just stop by for a drink or two. The food is also good and reasonably priced. On the weekends they usually host some pretty good bands also.

I just saw the bartender take a can of diet coke out of her purse and stick it in the bar ice. Disgusting, I won't be back.

Our first time there was pretty cool. Met a few friends for the Kip Winger solo show May 1st. We had reserved our table for two, but they let our friend sit with us, which was nice. The waitress was a tad slow but it was very busy in there. I think she may have been the only one working, it may help to have a lot more during a show. The bar was nice sized and the staff when we got there was friendly. They were very accommodating for me needing wheelchair accessible seating.

I really wanted this bar to be my neighborhood bar, but its not going to happen. First off the hours are inconsistent. I called awhile back because i was already out at Mass Ave and didn't want to head that direction if i couldn't get late night food. The person who answered the phone told me they were open every day till three. When i got there at 12:30, they were closed. So i only go on weekend nights when i can be sure they are open. Service. This place is severely lacking in service. My girlfriend and i are in the industry, and we cant seem to get a drink under 15 minutes. And thats with a bar rail that isn't full either. Last night we finally waved the bartender down (6/7- heavy set girl with glasses). Ordered our drinks, and asked for a menu. 20 minutes later we wave her down because she wont come back to us. (45-1hr later). Keep in mind we are super hungry. Someone else sets our food on the other side of the bar And just leaves it there! Not at the well, or employee service area. The food sits there till we ask another employee if its ours. At this point we as if we can have another round, and she completely forgets to get our drinks. When we remind her 10-20 minutes later she cant remember what we ordered because she never rang our initial round up!!! Now we are upset, and i ask her whats going on, why cant she remember anything we order. And she throws it in our face sarcastically that shes knows were upset so thats why shes buying our drinks. This review is getting two stars because the food is great! And i like the bands, but this is completely overshadowed by the service at the bar. I could say its just this individual not the establishment, but this isn't the first time this is happened. They have another bartender, a girl with tattoos on her chest who wont even look us in the eye and is pretty bitchy. Btw owners, i had two Jameson's rocks pours, 3 Stellas, and my gf had a bud light and two guennis. Your bartender charged us for 1 bud light. Either she didn't remember our drinks (big door guy had to get some of them, he was nice- thanks man), or she hooked us up because she knew we were upset. Regardless, we would have loved to pay for all of them just for good service. Also, we payed 2$ each for cover.

Place was packed so we sat at the bar. The bar tending staff was less than friendly, almost avoiding eye contact. We ordered a salad and a sandwich. 45 minutes later, after we were finally able to get someone's attention, we were told that "the kitchen's really backed up right now".. Bottom line- don't waste your time. This would be a hell of a place to start a restaraunt!

Josh (my boyfriend) and I were really excited to visit this place since it's right outside of our apartment, but came back extremely disappointed. 1. "BIG" pretzel appetizer with spicy cheese. Translation: Regular cheese and three regular sized breadsticks. Don't get me wrong, the pretzels and cheese were still good, but definitely not as advertised. Decent size appetizer for two, but no more. 2. Entree 1: "Garbage burger" Again, the food was okay, but nothing to run home to mama about. And it was missing the "tabasco mayo" that was advertised. This entree came with fries which Josh said were "salt with a fry or two." Entree 2: "Chicago chicken philly" Way too much bread, but the chicken, cheese, pepper and onions were good. The chips that came on the side were amazing. If somehow you find yourself at Southport Bar & Grill, get the chips. 3. Josh's Blue Moon and my tequila sunrise were good, but after the awkward silence ordering our food with the waitress who clearly had better things to do, not much could make up for this trip. We didn't stay for the live entertainment, but that might be the biggest reason to go there. If you're looking for an "OK" meal/drinks with a $40+ price tag, maybe Southport Bar & Grill is the place for you.

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet.... If you're on the south side. Go here. It's a dive bar with a good sized menu, and great food. Get something with pasta. Any kind of pasta, they have plenty of choices. And if you like spicy, go with the Red Pepper sauce. Don't ask questions. Just do it! :)

Live music and fancy bar food? Count me in! Their food is amazing and I love that you can go to your 'local sports bar' and get a solid pasta dish. They claim their pasta is made from scratch- my next trip in I'll verify this. Otherwise, the hand-breaded mushrooms and quesadillas are to die for.

You know those crappy dive bars that are cool? Yeah, this isn't one of those. This bar is just crappy.

I came here on a busy night- the night of a trivia league semi-finals in December 2011- so I'm going to try to be forgiving, due to the large crowd. Then again, if a bar can't handle a large crowd they were EXPECTING, I'm probably being too generous. One star it is. A bit after our team found our seats, a waitress came and took our drink and food orders. The event was going to take a few hours, so we all ordered food. She brought the alcohol quickly, I think, but I only ordered water. After 30 minutes or so, I realized she hadn't been near us again. It was 45 minutes after she took our order that I saw her and reminded her of the water. I did get it, and when we asked why it was taking so long to get our food, she said something about the kitchen being backed up, then avoided us until an hour and 10 minutes after we ordered, when she brought us our food. We had only ordered basic things like pretzels, fries, and burgers, by the way. I'd ordered pretzels, which were sub-par and only lukewarm. After the wait I'd had to get them, though, I was hungry, and I didn't trust her to return them quickly if I managed to find her and send them back. Side note- my friend's date was sitting at the bar and got his food in about half the time. We didn't see the waitress again for a long time. When she re-appeared with our checks, I told her I wanted to speak with a manager. It took at least 10 minutes, but one appeared. I told him politely that I was disappointed with the service and the food. He said he'd see what he could do for me. 20 minutes later, he still hadn't returned, so I found him at the bar. This time he said, "Well, you ate the food, didn't you?" "Yeah-" "Well, then I can't do anything about it." I was stunned. "I am really disappointed by the slow service, not being able to find the waitress, and the food-" He shrugged. "Sorry, we were backed up." I stormed away. My bill was only about $6 (for pretzels!), so it wasn't about the money. It was about them providing a basic level of service, which they totally failed to do. They'd known about the event for at least several weeks, probably much longer. If they plan to host again, they need to schedule several competent waitpeople and make sure the kitchen can handle the crowd- or hire a caterer. The only reason I'd ever go here again is if the semi-finals are held here again and my team makes it. I'll eat a big meal beforehand!

This is a favorite on Thursday night for a little happy hour action. The cocktails are strong and the TVs are always tuned to sports (two of my favorite things)! The atmosphere is casual and the bartenders are always serving with sass. It's a dive bar that is fun, relaxed and just a good time for a couple of quick drinks after work. I just wish it was closer to downtown!

Went there on a random Friday night and played pool with a bunch of friends! Bartender that waited our table was awesome and fun. A medium size crowd so we had plenty of room and good attention from the servers. Yummy shots and cold beer! Food was okay, nothing to write home about though. Tuesdays and Thursdays parking lot is always packed!
