When you walk into Rocket 88, first thing you will notices will be the giant menu that's written on their wall. Overall the atmosphere really resembles General America Doughnut Company. Coffee: ehh....not the greatest, is not going to blow your hats off, but is a little better then your average Gas Station runs. They did have free samples on their counters of their lemon sugar mini doughnut bites: I would give these doughnut a 6/10, may because i'm not a huge sugar fan. Overall, I would recommend you to try it for yourself. May not be the best coffee or doughnuts but the atmosphere is pretty awesome! I will try to upload photo next time!

Awesome! Interesting flavors, fresh, and attentive service! Lots of GFand vegan options that are delicious! Don't get outta here without trying the brown butter pumpkin!

Great doughnuts, not the super unhealthy doughnuts that you expect so maybe not the taste you will expect, these are truly "craft doughnuts". I thought the place had a good atmosphere, the people working were GREAT, which means a lot in my book! The size of the doughnut may not be worth the cost but if you take into consideration the ingredients they are using, it makes sense.

Doughnuts or donuts? "Dough"s it really matter? HA puns. While I can't speak for the in-shop experience, I can vouch for its tastiness because a sweet friend offered me an extra :) I'm pretty sure mine was the Early Grey Vanilla which retails for only $1! It was a perfect size: larger than a "snack size" doughnut but a tad smaller than a Krispy Kreme. Perfectly glazed, not too much or too sticky. The dough was dense and moist (sorry if you hate that word) but not like "oh man, it's too rich" after one bite. Bonus: you can preorder large orders and pick them up on the day of your event! "Dougnut" miss out on the opportunity to Rocket 88! ;)

I love the food, the coffee, the staff! It's easily the best doughnut in town! I really enjoy the space as well. Right on my way into work!

We just left there on this beautiful morning!! We had an amazing experience. They had live music, seating outside, good doughnuts, great sandwiches(only sat and sun), and great coffee. They recycle and compost, that is a plus. Would defiantly recommend!!

I tried one of all doughnuts offered the day I went to Rockett 88. (It was my birthday, so that's allowed right?)Loved the atmosphere. The doughnuts were okay. My favorite was the blackberry waffle, but only after taking it home to warm it up. I will say I've tried several craft doughnut places and this one is the best so far.

The best donuts in Indianapolis!!!! Definitely my favorite donut place. They taste the best when they're fresh out of the oven. The only downside is that I wish they were open later.

I had heard about this place, being from out of town I wanted to try it. There were no gluten free donuts which was definitely a disappointment but I at least was able to have a breakfast sandwich without bread which was an egg over mozzarella and tomato with balsamic. It wasn't bad but not super either. It wasn't warm at all and I was given a very flimsy cheap plastic fork which made for a mess in cutting. The donuts which my family got looked very dry, my children weren't impressed, they only liked the chocolate glaze on top. My husband said the taste was very average. The coffee was good! The employees were friendly.

Rocket 88 definitely has a leg up on their nearby competitors: What they've done better: 1. They have a private parking lot 2. Their shop is a finished space and doesn't feel like you've walked into a warehouse 3. Their donuts are at a much better price point and seem to be made with better ingredients (that may be in my head though, but they do a much better job of marketing themselves which goes a long way) What they've done worse: 1. They aren't as creative with their donuts. They taste better, but they really are all just donuts with some topping on them. Their rival has truly creative concoctions (creme brulee donuts with actual burned sugar on top and stuffed with creme as an example). This isn't a true negative for Rocket 88 because their donuts are far superior. I just wish they'd elevate them a little. What they both do terribly: 1. Customer service. They'll ignore you indefinitely and then aren't particularly friendly once you have their attention. Overall their donuts are fantastic. Especially their dark chocolate/bacon iced donuts. They could probably verbally abuse me and I'd still come back for those.

My friend has been wanting to come here since they just opened, so she took me here and we ordered 6 donuts to split between the 2 of us, a bit excessive yes I know we have a problem .. I used to eat donuts 4 times a week... We ordered the earl grey vanilla donut maple bacon dark chocolate donut brown butter pretzel maple pecan donut. The earl grey donut didn't have that strong of an earl grey flavor, I would have preferred more. The maple bacon dark chocolate donut was delish!!! The dark chocolate coating was rich and the bacon was soo crispy and salty. The brown butter pretzel donut wasn't that special. I can't wait to try their other donuts next time I am in town.. maybe a cream filled one.. mmmmm I love cream filled stuff. $10 for 6 donuts

I was feeling virtuous when a box of donuts was passed around during a meeting and I politely refused. But a coworker insisted I try at least a bite, "they are from Rocket 88", he enthused as he broke me off a piece of the dark chocolate bacon donut in his hand. The topping was sweet and savory perfection over a delicious donut base. I couldn't stop thinking about that one bite of donut for the rest of the day and wished I had taken my own from the box when I had the chance. Looking forward to visiting their Fountain Square shop soon.

Had to start off my birthday with something new and boy am I glad we found Rocket 88 Doughnuts! I was very impressed with the variety of options for the doughnuts as well as the drinks. The chocolate doughnut with bacon was fantastic! How can you not like the combination of sweet and savory?? Its just perfection. I also had a chai latte and it was rich, creamy and so delicious. I look forward to coming back!

Cute, simple doughnut shop in Fountain Square- a great addition to the neighborhood! These aren't like Long's donuts- they aren't served warm and icing won't be dripping down your fingers. However, I also didn't feel the gross sugar overload that sometimes comes from indulging in traditional doughnuts. I enjoyed the fun flavors & topping combinations- the chocolate & bacon is so tasty! I also appreciated that the yeast doughnuts are quite yeasty (?) and not super sweet, which lets the toppings shine. The cake doughnuts are a bit too thick/dry for my liking- they beg for a cold glass of milk. The shop offers locally roasted coffee and the staff is friendly & helpful in the decision-making process. I've certainly had better doughnuts but the fun flavors and good coffee are worth a visit if you're near the neighborhood.

My favorite thing about these doughnuts is that they are flavorful and delicious without assaulting you with sugar. Ranking the three flavors I tried from most favorite to least favorite we have: maple pecan, strawberry, and nutella espresso. I'm not a coffee drinker so it's no surprise that the espresso doughnut was my least favorite. However, color me surprised that maple pecan was my favorite since I usually am not a big fan of nuts in baked goods. Can't wait until they open up shop!

Jokes are on hold for this review because messing up donuts is no joking matter. Unfortunately when we went on a Sunday morning the donuts were cold and did not taste like they had been baked the same day. They actually tasted a bit stale. My boyfriend had chocolate and vanilla frosted donuts and they seemed day-old, definitely nothing special. They may be better when they're warm but I was pretty disappointed by my brown butter pretzel donut. The glaze tasted like straight sugar and the donut was definitely chewy and stale. Perhaps I will go back to see if the donuts can redeem themselves but at this point I am skeptical that it would be worth it to return.

I've frequented Rocket 88 since they first opened and sampled a number of their offerings, including doughnuts and coffee/espresso. If I were rating Rocket 88 based only on their doughnuts, I would have to give 3 stars. Every doughnut I've tried has been just a little too sweet, and the balance of filling to dough is a bit off in their filled doughnuts. Somehow the filling seems to absorb into the surrounding dough, and only a thin layer of dough remains at the top, so the filling overwhelms the doughnut and it kind of falls apart as you eat it. It feels strange to complain about the structural integrity of a doughnut, but it seems to be lacking here. They're fine, but not outstanding, and the primary reason I keep eating their doughnuts is because they make some great coffee and espresso drinks, and they feature local beans from Miles Square. On Sunday mornings when I'm craving espresso, I'll walk into Rocket 88 because they are one of the few coffee shops open in the neighborhood on Sundays. Once inside, it's really hard to resist the siren song of The Doughnut, even when it's not the best to be found in the neighborhood.

Well this is my first time posting in a while and let me just say, it's great to be back! So after passing rocket 88 doughnuts several times in the afternoon, they are probably tired of cleaning my face against the glass, and slobbering on their window when they're not open. Not today! As usual, I got up way too early on a Saturday, and burned my bike down to fountain square. When I got there, there was an old man and his wife waiting in the car, but they weren't fast enough! And senior citizens are supposed to be good at getting there before everyone, haha. Walking in directly behind me were about 10 people at 8 on a Saturday! I browsed the case and got to work. A pecan maple, and a blueberry for me. If you've never eaten vegan doughnuts before they are quite different then the real ones. They usually lack that crunch around the outside, and are less sweet. They also don't ruin your whole day sleeping off the sugar and fat. Blueberry doughnut, it was surprisingly crispy, but the blueberry was a bit faint. Just the right sweetness but wanted that blueberry burst 4/5. Pecan maple doughnut, very chewy in a good way, and the maple and pecan were spot on. Again not too sweet, but great flavor 5/5. I couldn't believe how dense the doughnuts were! Two of them were a meal, and I know I'm delusional, but I almost felt as I ate something healthy. The interior of the space is very cool/eclectic 4/5. So I walked out into the sun, I contemplated my next stop to eat something that I KNEW was going to be bad for me! Great to be back!!!!

The good and the bad of Rocket 88 - it's like playing poker. Some time you get a good hand ... and sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get a good doughnut selection and sometimes you don't. Sadly, I arrived with the latter selection. We ordered the blueberry doughnut (old fashioned) and he ordered the waffle doughnut. I heard from Michael that his lacked flavor. I can only speak directly about the blueberry. Real talk - it's not the best blueberry doughnut I've had in Indianapolis as I will lean to Jack's. Jacks is rich, buttery and has a delectably sweet texture with a strong blueberry flavor. Rocket was decent but lacked the blueberry punch. Now call me when the cookie dough doughnut is in stock and I might have a different feeling. It's definitely a cool space in Fountain Square. It would be neat if they posted their flavors on their website or Twitter so that I can make an informed decision. PS. Every employee is somewhat angry and annoyed with life but that's because they are hipster so that's what society tells them they should be. Need coffee? We're out. Can I see the small and large cup size? It's 12 and 16 oz. Oh. Anything besides whole milk? No.

Full disclosure- we came specifically for two donuts that they were already out of at 9 o'clock. The guy behind the counter said that they run out really fast of the good ones so you get whats left if you arent early. I feel like if you are down to 5-6 flavors two hours in you should make more donuts. I dont know. We tried one of each flavor left and split it between me, my boyfriend, and my friend who was staying with us. We tried: chocolate glazed cake (dry and flavourless. second worst of all of them) dark chocolate bacon (i thought it was gross, bf thought it was ok) double toasted coconut (the only one I liked... but the people I was with both didnt) lime filled (this was the worst. the filling was awful, it tasted like curdled milk and bottled lime juice) strawberry (again, not great tbh but passable) and another glazed one i forget the name of, vanilla glazed i think. it was ok. I was really disappointed... The coffee was pretty good I guess? I dont know if we came on an off day, but the guy at the counter was super pretentious talking about the donuts, and sort of looked down his nose at us being there at 9 am instead of 7 am? Like we deserved to be disappointed for not waking up at the crack of dawn? I would go once more to try the "good ones" and see if they are phenomenal enough that I understand the great ratings, but this experience was really lackluster and disappointing.

My neighborhood coffee shop is closed on Sundays, so I ventured to Rocket 88 for my latest weekend caffeine fix. Let's get the negatives out of the way: -I was confused when I ordered a chai latte and was told that they don't offer chai drinks, just the tea itself... even though the chai latte was listed on the menu. -The spacing of the tables and chairs makes it tricky to navigate. I take up more space with my crutches, but still. I appreciated that the girl behind the counter brought my doughnut to the table and bussed my table when I was leaving. -It felt a little stuffy. It was an unusually hot day for this summer, but a bit more AC would have felt nice. Okay, now for the positives: -Private parking lot. -Nutella cream-filled doughnut. Yes, you read that correctly. I definitely could have eaten more than one. -There is something endlessly charming about a place where hipsters and small children peacefully coexist. I had to refrain from cracking up several times when overhearing snippets of the conversation between an 8-year-old and his family sitting next to me. I'll be back to try a Leslie Knope!

Dough, sugary, and interesting flavor combinations, alongside the traditional glazed and sugar coated...and here I am describing their vegan doughnuts, of which they have a large selection. This is how a doughnut should taste. Not a vegan doughnut. Just a well crafted doughnut in general. Whenever my boyfriend come here (which unfortunately is not too often, so I don't run the risk of packing on the pounds) we always buy three, and split each of them, that way we can sample quite a few without being too indulgent. And don't forget to wash that sweetness away with one of their coffee drinks. Though I typically like lattes because the nondairy milk adds a smoothness to the espresso, here I vote for their iced americano. It is earthy, yet surprisingly not bitter in the slightest. It serves as the perfect compliment to their fried dough stars.

I took the kids downtown for our "All Spring Break in a Day" trip and Rocket 88 was our first stop. While I had been following Rocket 88's progress on FB and Twitter, I hadn't made it down to sample their goodies. It was time. Nestled just north of Fountain Square, there was plenty of parking on the street. Inside, I would describe the decor as kind of "hip and modern" (a technical term), but the playful doughnut-inspired artwork tied everything together and made us feel at home. Girl 1 had the Cinnamon Sugar and Girl 2 had the dark chocolate bacon just to tease her vegetarian father. I did not hear any complaints. As for me, I went for the hazelnut cream. It was like nothing I've ever tasted before. I would return just for that. All told, a very positive experience. I'll be happy to "Doughnut Local" again in the near future.

I never seem to make it in time for the full selection of donuts I hear so much about! So come early, or expect a very limited selection. I've come twice now, and I've walked away both times with donuts that had me feeling like I hit the doughy jackpot. By far the dark chocolate with bacon donut is the president of all their fried dough. I've sampled a green tea, raspberry sugar, and regular chocolate glazed as well. The raspberry sugar was great in theory, but I did feel slightly underwhelmed as the raspberry did not bring it's a-game. But the others were solid in their own rights. While we didn't stay to eat them there, the atmosphere seemed conducive for hanging out with the hubs and talking all things fried and fatty. All in all, I'd come back to try to taste the elusive donuts that get sold off so quickly. Looking forward to pairing it with some piping hot coffee and good company. ** Edit: Came today with a friend and got coffee and peach waffle donuts. Must say... Excellent! The girl working the counter was so sweet and really wowed me. Will definitely come to sit for coffee and fried dough again soon.

A box of a dozen random choices from R88 was my first stop the day I moved to Fountain Square earlier this year and has been my go-to doughnut option since. Located in that awkward spot between the Fletcher foodie heaven and cultural center that's Fountain Square, R88 is a quick, delicious stop to work downtown or walk from the home. While they may not have a plethora of options fitting for a doughnut connoisseur (because there are oh-so-many), you'll be quick to recognize the options you have are amazingly delicious and made with care. Even the Old Fashioned is a [not-so]basic yeast doughnut that will make you forget that Krispy Kreme down the road. And that's just the start. Eventually, you'll be throwing down their maple bacon with, yes, real bacon. In addition, there is coffee and other doughnut shop options to make your experience in or on-the-go worth the extra $$ you'll be spending. I definitely recommend grabbing their Rocket blend coffee and dozen random doughnuts next time you're craving a basic long john.

I had been looking forward to trying Rocket 88 since I saw the Yelp Meet The Maker event for it. I finally got an excuse to go when my donut-loving friend came to visit. We got - Almond Glazed - Dark Chocolate Bacon - Maple Pecan - Brown Butter Pretzel - Earl Grey Vanilla The prices were very reasonable at $1.50-$2.25 per donut. We got 6 donuts (2 of the earl grey) for a little under $11. All the donuts were good but really nothing spectacular. They were a bit underwhelming, actually. I guess when I think of 'specialty donuts', I expected more than what Rocket 88 had to offer. The flavors aren't that unique or creative. The Dark Chocolate Bacon was also too salty for my tastes--great to try as a one time thing but I wouldn't get it again. I will definitely be back to try more flavors though. I still have high hopes for this place. And I just adore the interior and atmosphere. It's a nice place to hang out and catch up with a few friends.

Okay, it's official...Rocket 88 is now my new favorite doughnut place! Tasty goodness all around. This was my first time to Rocket 88 and I am hooked. I arrived at around 9:10 am on a Sunday when they had just opened at 9 am and there was already a line to the door. They apologized for the wait and stated that they were a little short staffed for the day. They have a good variety of regular yeast, cake and specialty donuts available plus coffee and lattes. I chose a raspberry/lemon waffle doughnut and the bacon dark chocolate doughnut plus I had a chance to try my friend's pretzel glazed doughnut. I added a chai tea latte to my order to finish it off. They only have the waffle doughnuts available on "waffle Wednesdays" and Sundays. We were told that they are trying different flavors of these waffle doughnuts as they go along. He described a double chocolate version they recently made that sounded amazing. I would say that you should come for the waffle doughnut for sure. You will be sorry if you don't! Mouthwatering...just enough crunch on the outside with the softness on the inside. The raspberry/lemon had a great contrast of tartness with sweet. The bacon dark chocolate was very tasty as well. I usually steer clear of cake doughnuts because of their dryness, but Rocket 88 has found the right recipe because the cake doughnut base for the bacon dark chocolate was moist and delicious. The pretzel glazed was on a base of a yeast doughnut. The crunchy salty pretzel topping was a great contrast with the sweet glaze on top of the doughnut. My chai tea latte was also perfection. What a way to start a Sunday morning! I will be returning soon to have another installment of doughnut deliciousness from Rocket 88!

No flavor for old fashioned donut, except icing. Too thick and dry. Taste like cornbread. Expresso donut was good though.

I admit, I haven't stuffed many doughnuts into my face. These are stuff worthy! I have always been proud that when others flock to boxes full of sugary carbon copy yeast ovals I always had the willpower to resist. The likes of Dunkin & Krispy Kreme never really appealed to me. Then Rocket 88 comes along and be still my beating heart! On two occasions I have made Rocket 88 a meal while devouring 3 doughnuts, licking my fingers clean, and washing it down with a cup of Rocket 88's coffee. A tasty cup of Joe custom blended for them by Mile Square. Why do their doughnuts contain a force strong like Jedi? Well, I couldn't find two identical looking doughnuts in the case. I felt all warm & fuzzy knowing each one was handmade with care. I could tell they had my taste buds in mind. Ingredients, ingredients, ingredients: organic & sourced locally. Unique innovative flavors. Inviting large space making doughnut consumption even more enjoyable complete with cool graphics. Fresh natural taste. These aren't overly sweet so I feel like I am eating a "healthy" doughnut. Dark Chocolate Yeast with Smoking Goose Jowel Bacon: Pure heaven topped with homemade chocolate ganache. My only complaint is mine could have used more bacon but that is me being picky. Brown Butter Pumpkin: My absolute favorite! The texture reminded me of a butter cake all soft and rich. This one almost melts in your mouth. Pure bliss! Maple Pecan Yeast: I have had two different experiences with this one. The first time something about it was off. Second time it was delicious. Personal notes: Next time I visit I am ordering the Vanilla Chai doughnut in combo with a Dirty Chai. My taste buds need a dance. This sounds like the perfect tango.

Super cute (and delicious) addition to Fountain Square! My friend and I met up on a Saturday morning (10am-ish) for a post-workout sugar fix. Even that early, they were already decently busy! My A.D.D.-like thoughts throughout my experience: - Love the huge chalkboard wall where all the menu items are listed! - Seating and tables are nice, but it's awfully dark in here! - WHOA those donuts look delicious!...but why so tiny? :-( - Brown Butter Pretzel is SO good! I need 10 more. - Americano = delicious. Bonus points for stevia packets. - Super nice staff! Great place and overall experience with a close community feel. Planning to run there next time so I can eat ALL the donuts (okay, maybe not all, but definitely more than one).

First impression: such a large space! I honestly didn't think the interior would be this spacious. There are two large conference like tables along with plenty of two seater options and a couch style lounge at the front of the shop. I have to be honest, I'm not a doughnut eater. I backed rocket 88 on kickstarter. I brought the doughnuts to work though and everyone enjoyed them. The chai and sprinkled seemed to be a favorite. I did have a coffee and it was so rich and delicious. The coffee sold here is from a local roaster, Miles Square and it's worth every penny. I would definitely hang out in this space and work during the day. Just the spacious nature and the coffee alone are two good reasons. Cheers to a new local business in ft square!

WHY ME?! Why am I the odd ball that wasn't crazy about Rocket 88. I ADORE everything about this place, but not...the donuts?! I have been following Rocket 88 on Instagram eagerly anticipating their December opening. One day they posted about a soft opening for that day, and I was out of my apartment door and on the road in a heartbeat. I couldn't wait! I arrived at Rocket 88 in record time. I love the interior. So simple and modern. I am a sucker for a chalkboard menu. The donuts are displayed behind a glass barrier. Oh, how they looked heavenly. I waited around a few minutes for some freshly baked donuts. I ordered the mint chocolate, brown sugar pumpkin, dark chocolate bacon, and the vanilla chai. I agree wholeheartedly with another Yelper who noted that the donuts weren't uber sweet, which was a bonus, but I would have like a bit more flavor in both the chai and the pumpkin. The brown sugar pumpkin was my fave. Of all the donuts, this is the only one that I ate entirely. I did not care for the yeast based mint chocolate or the dark chocolate bacon. I loved the salty sweet combination of the bacon and dark chocolate donut, but not a fan of the yeast donut itself. I feel like I must go back to try the New Day donut because I'm a huge fan of New Day and am just curious to see what they created. I will also give them another try with respects to it being a soft opening. Maybe I was there on an off day or maybe it's just a personal preference. I do wish this place the best because it does seem like a quality small business.

Doughnuts make me GO NUTS! :) I came here during their soft open this week (grand opening is tomorrow!) and since I got there around Noon, most of the doughnuts had been scooped up and eaten before I got there, but I did get to taste their Vanilla Chai cake doughnut and their Apple Fritter...DUH-LISH! Now, I've had my share of doughnuts...and I know good doughnuts vs. bad doughnuts. These are GREAT doughnuts! Flavorful, fluffy, just the right amount of sweet, and Now I know...how many doughnut places do we need blah blah blah...but this place is a bit different. They have several different offerings that you can't get other places and the overall look of the place is more artsy than your average doughnut shop. They have these really cool long, wooden tables to sit at that are engraved with their logo...very cool look! There's also other seating near the front windows so you can look out and people watch. Due to it being a soft open, they still have a few more pieces to put on the walls and artwork that's being created, so when you go, it may look a bit cold, but I'm excited to see what it looks like months from now once they've really hit their stride. They have a kick-awesome baker, so I'm sure anything this gal makes will be a winner! I'm excited to go back and try different flavors. They also have espresso, coffee, hot chocolate, etc., so stop in and try em out!

Doughnuts not donuts, okay?? These are gourmet little bites of scrumptiousness! Disclaimer : I love doughnuts and have been to known to order 3-4 just for myself. My favorite is the mixed berry filled yeast doughnut but you can't go wrong with anything you order. Try the nitro brew coffee, it's not acidic in the least and pairs well the sweetness. An inventive and artisanal approach to a rather simple food done right. Rock on, Rocket 88.

Not a doughnut person? I am not either, or at least not a person who craves the average doughnut; however, Rocket 88 has redefined my doughnut experience. Fresh, natural and local --- these doughnuts are unlike any other doughnut I have ever had. They offer traditional doughnuts: the "old fashioned" and a "New Day Meadery Glazed Yeast." I could have lived without the sprinkles on the New Day Meadery Glazed yeast - but I am sure many kids are going to making humble requests for seconds of this one! That Dark Chocolate and Bacon doughnut, though: delicious. It was perfect; a perfect 10. It was not too sweet, true to dark chocolate flavor and the bacon was cooked to perfection. They also offer Mile Square coffee, the perfect complement to the perfect doughnut. They have many italian style coffee beverages from cappuccinos to espressos. Rumor has it they will be creating a custom Rocket 88 blend coffee as well as seasonal coffees. Whether you are picking up a doughnut on the run or are planning to stay a while; be sure to stop in and check out their new location. It is a very industrial space. With several long tables, it is a great place to kick back and enjoy your doughnut while catching up on email or grabbing a quick breakfast with a friend. I can't wait to go back next Friday and try and other tasty treat! (my roommate and I decided this is a new Friday tradition.)

I've been to R88 twice and sampled 6 types of doughnuts (not ashamed...), so I feel like I can rate it appropriately now. Here's a breakdown of everything I've stuffed my face with: -Chocolate/bacon (yeast): Definitely a favorite. The dark chocolate paired really well with the salty bacon (which, by the way, is real bacon that is cooked very crispy). The chocolate has a spreadable consistency, which I liked. -Maple pecan (yeast): This was a weird one. We finished the whole thing, but it really didn't taste like maple. We both agreed that it had kind of an amaretto flavor. -Orange sprinkled (yeast): It was weird. Although it wasn't specifically labeled, I think this must be the one that's made with New Day Craft's mead because it kind of tasted like alcohol. -Pumpkin brown butter (cake): This was just like pumpkin bread--yum! The icing had a great flavor, but there was maybe a little too much of it. -Mexican hot chocolate (yeast): This chocolate was a little more like dried icing (you could chip it off if that gives you a good visual), which I didn't like as much. I didn't really get a spicy vibe. It has marshmallows! It was OK. -Cinnamon sugar (yeast, vegan): Despite how standard this is, it was a great doughnut. It had almost a crispness when biting into it. For the kind of doughnuts I've described, the average price seems to be in the $1.50-$2.00 range, which I think is reasonable. Here's the thing though--I think 3.5 stars would be more honest because, despite how yummy some of these are, they're not terribly creative. They're all just essentially doughnuts with stuff on top. I would like to see some filled doughnuts or some kind of doughnut reinvention. This is the only point that I think R88's nearby competitor has them beat on. The service has been pleasant if not occasionally slow. They don't seem to be running out of doughnuts early. The interior is absolutely lovely with some great doughnut art. They're very active on social media and have kept customers updated every step of the way, which I appreciate.

Doughnuts?? Sold!!! Doughnuts with Chocolate AND Bacon?? DOUBLE SOLD!!!!!!!! So I knew about this place quite awhile before it opened and when the process for them was just beginning. I know Rachel, the beautiful talented chef, from church and from my hubby who worked with her. He was special enough that he got to taste them when she was making them in her kitchen!! Anywho~it's been great to watch them develop and finally open in the Square. Everyone I've spoken to has enjoyed the doughnuts. My personal favorite has been the dark chocolate bacon one and maple pecan! Super yummy with enough flavor of the doughnut but delicious toppings. I like that they are using local ingredients such as Smoking Goose, New Day-that's right, booze in your food!!, and others. I haven't tried the coffee yet, but I'm looking forward to spending lots of time and $$$$ on their delicious baked items :)

Hey neighbor, welcome to the Fletcher Place/Fountain Square 'hood. Happy you're here. Why am I happy? Well, lets start off with the fact that you carry products from fellow local business owners like Mile Square Coffee Roastery and Sage's Simple Syrups. Cat's outta the bag - this is an automatic way to my heart. Second, you make vegan doughnuts which naturally fools me into thinking the doughnut is healthy...which we all know isn't the case. I've had the pleasure of trying the ever-popular Old Fashioned sour-cream based doughnut along with the chocolate and bacon topped and another infused with cider from New Day Craft just up the street. My love for you continues with wifi, plentiful seating and the "Life of a Doughnut" mural that all make you an extra-sweet spot to host meetings. Last, but definitely not least, way to go on flipping a downtown building and breathing some fresh air into this part of the neighborhood. Much love, Brittany-pretends-vegan-doughnuts-are-healthy S. *Keep an eye out for the new waffle-doughnuts!

Very happy I came back. The suggestion to try some off the fruit flavored donuts went very well. The blueberry donut was very good. Actually went back and got another one before leave the Square. Double chocolate donut is now a suborbital favorite of mine. Very great pick! Thanks for invite back.

Rocket 88 continues to impress me with their creative doughnuts. On my most recent visit Rocket 88 debuted their waffle-doughnut with blackberry syrup (available on Sundays and Wednesdays). One bite in and it took every fiber of my being not to yell, "OH HELL YEAH". Great taste and texture. This is how I want my waffles from now on. I hope that in time, Rocket 88 will experiment with more waffle-doughnut flavors, because they're on to something fantastic here.

I'm going to sadly go against the Yelp grain and say I was just not too impressed with my first trip to Rocket 88. I had been wanting to try their donuts since they opened, so when I found myself in Fountain Square I had to swing by. I got a gluten-free chocolate frosted and the pumpkin brown sugar. The GF was not good. It was heavy, dry, and the frosting almost tasted burned. No bueno. I almost always finish donuts, but this one was a no-go. The pumpkin brown sugar did a little to cheer up my mouth sadness, but was still a little strange texture-wise and lacked the spice and pumpkin flavor I had hoped for. The icing was delicious, though. I'll probably go back to give them another try when the donut batches are fresh. At $1.50 - $2.00 a donut, though, I'm hoping for some serious improvement.

I'm very happy to have this fine doughnut shop in our neighborhood. Everything I've had has been delicious. I recently tried a vegan variety, and to my surprise I think it was actually better than the original. The doughnuts are both reasonably sized and priced, so you can eat more than one without breaking your budget or belt. The location is really nice looking, a cool place to hang out with a doughnut and coffee. I will be a regular here for a long time,

a morning that you don't have to wake up to an alarm is the most sacred of all days. one of these particular mornings we woke up and had a glorious day ahead of us with zero commitments. although we did not want to leave the haven of our bed, we started craving doughnuts. i had heard so much buzz about rocket 88 so we drug ourselves out and headed to fountain square. the building looked cool and i liked the logo.... so it seemed like it was worth the trip out. then we get in there. the selection was a handful of choices at most and although we were the only ones in line and there were only a few tables full of already served customers the 2 person staff seemed overwhelmed and not thrilled. the drink options were coffee and room temperature milk. no specialty drinks. no oj. so okay. that's fine. it just appeared to be a swanky doughnut shop so i had expected more drink selections. we get our overly priced doughnuts and sit down to try the 4 different kinds we ordered and the words that come to mind are: tasteless, boring, overrated, and unexceptional. i instantly wanted to click my heels and be back in bed yelping somewhere to have breakfast. maybe it was an off day. not sure. but, with the doughnuts being so pricey i can't imagine i would be giving them another shot. if i was to advise friends, i would tell them to save themselves time and money and pick up a bag of krispy kremes at the gas station or make the drives to longs. with @blakeallee

4 stars for the space, 2.5 stars for the doughnuts, and 2 stars for service. To be fair I've given them several tries. Out of the 5 or so doughnuts I've tried, one was good (it was a waffle doughnut). Most of them were on the dry side with a chewy texture. Coffee was good! The service was always short and seemed annoyed by any questions or modifications to coffee orders. I hope they ramp up their recipes!

This is a new Fountain Square gem! So excited that this new doughnut shop is finally open. I wasn't much of a big doughnut person until Rocket 88 came around. I live down the street and have already ate too many doughnuts (good thing I recently got a gym membership). The shop: I love the uniformity and design. It's visually appealing and makes you want to sit and hang out. It is also very environmentally conscience. They recycle and compost just about everything, which is a huge plus for me! Oh and the employees were super friendly. The drinks: They have partnered with mile square who is a really great coffee roster in the city. The Rocket 88 blend was solid and I highly recommend getting a vanilla latte. The doughnuts: -The old fashioned was out of this world. The new day glaze on it was perfect. It was easily one of my favorite doughnuts. If you only get one get this one. --The apple fritter is perfect. Crispy on the outside with a yummy glaze and moist and perfect on the inside. Plus it was made with real apples! -The maple pecan was super yummy and the yeast dough was soft and light. It's made with real maple syrup and I love really love maple syrup. -Dark chocolate with smoking goose bacon. Smoking goose is the best when it comes to curing and making meats, but bacon on a doughnut? I was a little skeptical... until I tried it. The bacon wasn't overpowering in flavor at all. It more so added this perfect salty compliment to the sweat doughnut with dark chocolate. If you are a little skeptical, don't be. This is worth a try. Check out this new Fountain Square staple. I've been telling all of my friends and coworkers to come check it out.

I have been here a handful of times. I like that their doughnut prices ($1.5+) are more reasonable than other craft doughnut shops in the area. I found the old fashion cake ones remind me of the kind I would get as a kid. I didn't love the yeast raised ones, weird flavor and texture for me. Thankfully there is enough variety to keep my attention. Also they make their lattes with organic milk which I LOVE!

So a craft doughnut movement is probably the best news I have ever received, and Rocket 88 is leading that movement. Beyond the doughnuts being creative and delicious the staff has been extremely pleasurable every time that I have been in. The cinnamon yeast and old fashioned are particular favorites of mine, that said I have yet to be disappointed with a selection.

When I was a kid, I would sometimes stay the weekend at my Grandparents. Grandpa would get up early and go get donuts and chocolate milk from Rosalyn's Bakery. If we were really lucky, Grandma would make hot chocolate. Ahh.. the memories. Sunday morning I woke up feeling a bit nostalgic and had a strange craving for donuts. Thankfully, Rocket 88 is close to me, so I jumped in the car and headed towards Fountain Square for a new take on my childhood memories of donuts. I went for three donuts: Chocolate Bacon, Almond Glaze and Earl Grey. The chocolate bacon is a favorite of mine, and one I've had many times before. The Earl Grey was new to me and had a great flavor - one I'll definitely get again. The almond glaze was definitely sweet, but I didn't get much of an almond taste out of it. To be fair, I ate it last and the subtleness of the almond flavoring could have been lost because of the heavy chocolate and earl grey flavors from the previous two. Still, since this is my review, you get my opinion. I'll give it a try again though because it went great with coffee. I'm so happy that Indianapolis has gotten onboard with the donut revolution sweeping the nation. I'd love to see ice cream from Lick squished between a donut cut in half from Rocket 88. Perhaps I'll begin experimenting with this myself...

Oh. My. Gosh. I didn't know that I could like doughnuts as much as I do until I had some Rocket 88 Doughnuts. I was wandering Fountain Square, and decided to snag an afternoon pick-me-up. I had a brown sugar pretzel doughnut, an almond doughnut, and a hot chocolate. I showed up about 10 minutes before they closed, so I they gave me a free doughnut (score!). It was such a delicious and happy experience. I loved the shop, and the doughnuts were inspired! Definitelyyyy check this place out if the doughnut mood strikes. Stellar flavor options, good service, and an all around cool vibe.

Maybe I just can't get on board with the gourmet doughnut craze. I SWEAR I'm trying so hard and I really want to love it! The experiences always just fall flat. It's been a couple of weeks since we visited, but I know we had the dark chocolate bacon doughnut and something else (something cake-y). The prices are on par with General American, as are the products. The storefront is cute. A good place if you're into this kind of thing. Me, I think I'd still rather go to Longs. This place does make for top notch Instagram posts, though.

I have tried the following vegan donuts: blueberry glazed, maple pecan, almond glazed and chocolate yeast. Every one of these were excellent. I'm getting hungry thinking about them.

The donuts here are awesome and a much-needed addition to the food scene in Indy. They have vegan options for anybody who runs from traditional donuts. The chocolate bacon donut is awesome. So is the waffle donut. I can't eat donuts every day or every week, but this place beats the hell out of the typical donut place.

Totally my jam for a flavor tastic donut. Now in a city famous for glazed long's, ( which I agree in its simplicity is as good as it gets.) But now if you like some flavor and creativity in your donuts give this place a try. In our group we had an almond glazed, it was vegan I believe and delicious. Sweet and savory. Personally my favorite, however if you hate almond extract you wouldn't like it. The Mexican chocolate one was pretty tasty, would have preferred it on a super glazed donut, but great spice flavor. Same for the chocolate bacon one. The plain yeast just left something lacking. These are already diet busters, so if I am gonna splurge lets make it worth the guilt! The maple pecan crunch was pretty tasty. More classic, yet well done and loved it too. The only one we were just iffy about was the sour creme donut. The flavor just wasn't there. NSo I would say live a little when you go here, the variety of flavors is where it's at. It will be nice having a splurgy donut place in town worth the bang for your buck. Now I still crave some chi-town places, but we really enjoyed this place. So if you want to take a flavor adventure give it a try. If you like a more plain donut then maybe stick to somewhere more established. Everyone has different taste buds. But yay for a new place that hit it out of the park with 4/5 ones wee tried. Can't wait to return!

I stopped in here on a whim one day when I had a couple minutes on my commute. It was going to be a busy day in the office and I wanted to treat everyone to something special, and donuts are definitely the best! Well, Rocket 88 does not disappoint. I grabbed one of each that was available so that we could get the best idea of what they had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised with the cheeriness of the girl behind the counter at 7am! I've been other places in the morning and most people could really use a cup of coffee. She was very patient with my questions and even suggested her favorites. My only bad thing is the price. It can get a bit pricey if you are buying more than a couple. But, hey! Good stuff cost money.

I stopped in on a weekday early afternoon after they first opened. Pretty dark and uninviting. I was determined to get donuts since I'd made a special trip. Two varieties of donuts were available. A chai and something with granola on top. I got two of each and left pretty quickly. I didn't feel comfortable sitting down in the empty, near dark shop. My husband and I ate the donuts and decided they were pretty okay. We'll give them another try. Maybe they have changed the lighting situation and we'll go on a day/time when they are more options. Not bad at all, just maybe an off day.

Though a little on the pricey side, these are some excellent donuts. The line can be worth it, but not if you're going to be the one to clear them out. You will receive and deserve the ire of the rest of the people salivating behind you.

Recently stopping into Rocket 88 Donuts with a few expectations, my experience was a success. Hearing about Rocket 88 Donuts I really wanted to try the donuts everyone raved about & see exactly what it was all about. The atmosphere and friendly welcome is surely not to disappoint. The menu is written on the wall as well as a few other things. They have donuts that are regular donuts, an other donuts that come out usually every month. The menu is very simple to read & very organized. I really enjoyed how they interpreted where they get the supples and coffee grains for the shop at other local businesses. The atmosphere is very comfortable and simple. With tables to sit at, benches & couches there was plenty of places to sit & enjoy your stay. The staff as well was very friendly and helpful, always asking if we needed help or questions about the menu. Overall, I really enjoyed Rocket 88 Donuts. I highly suggest it to anyone with a sweet tooth in the morning!

Organic, locally sourced ingredients (almost always a guarantee to get to my heart!) and a cool location in the new foodie mecca of Fletcher Place. Interesting flavor combinations and twice weekly waffle doughnuts... Need I say more? This place is awesome. Long's fancier cousin. Try the dark chocolate bacon and Earl Grey vanilla for sure.

I was really excited to try this doughnut hot spot so me and the hubs stopped by one evening and we were both very disappointed. Not only did we pay like $2.50 for a single doughnut but the doughnuts were dry and tasteless. We ended up just thowing them away after a few bites. We will stick with Long's Bakery.

My dear Rachel, you have outdone yourself with this fine establishment!! Recently I had the pleasure of taking fellow yelper Stephanie Divine out for a well deserved birthday breakfast and we chose to indulge in the doughy goodness of Rocket 88. Holy Smokes! Guys I have to speak plainly....I don't eat doughnuts. I haven't had one in probably seven years at least. However, I had listened to many of my foodie friends exclaiming with delight about their personal experience here and I decided to give doughnuts another shot. Um words cannot describe the incredible bliss that hit my tongue. My weapon of choice? A cream cheese and raspberry drizzled beast of delicious tenderness. My whole aversion to doughnuts came from the overwhelming sweetness and sugariness that accompanied most products I have tried. This little slice of heaven however was neither over saturated in sugar nor coated in glazes and creams beyond recognition. My doughnut was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, allowing me to taste the dough underneath while still enjoying the delicate swirls of cream cheese and raspberry on top. I also partook of Stephanie's choice, an evil concoction with bacon AND chocolate. Seriously you already know nothing can go wrong with that combo. Come on, it's bacon! To complete my meal, I also order a dirty chai latte; a sexy little combo of chai tea and espresso. New favorite breakfast beverage right there guys!! Thank you Rocket 88 for turning this doughnut hater into a doughnut addict! You will definitely be seeing me again in the future!

Rocket 88 Doughnuts has a very friendly atmosphere. With the different types of seating, (benches, tables, and couches), you are able to sit with friends, do homework, or read the magazines they have out while enjoying the various doughnuts they have to offer or a nice warm drink. The natural lighting from the front windows makes the place very open with the modern decorations and the splash of colorful paint here and there. The menu is fairly easy to read as it is written on the chalk board wall as you enter the shop. It is categorized by the coffee/drinks, doughnuts available, any specials, and distributors throughout the city of Indianapolis. They had about five specialty doughnuts out of the ten available and they change the specialty ones every month while the original ones are always available. I had the cinnamon sugar and maple pecan with a chai tea. They have different flavor shots to put in the drinks as well. They brought our drinks out to us at our table! The doughnuts were SOO good, they were fresh, very tasty, and you could tell the dough was homemade. Overall my experience was very pleasant and I recommend everyone to try Rocket 88 Doughnuts!

I love donuts, I had heard about this place and thought I would try it out. The old fashion doughnut was good, but over priced. The chocolate with bacon, may have been the nastiest thing I have had in my mouth. Since I ate worms on a bet. I took one bite and the chocolate was so bitter. I thought I was confused. After another bite, I was not.. Tossed it right into the trash. $20.00 for a dozen donuts? Who do you think you are Doughnut Plant (NYC) LOL your donuts are horrible at best. Your building is nice and trendy. But they make a better doughnut at Village Pantry.

Tried gluten free...still need to work on this as not very flavorful and doughnut sorta heavy! Still think the maple pecan is my favorite so far! Loved the Rocket 88 coffee blend! Staff friendly and super patient! Cool interior space!

Thought doughnuts themselves were both tough and without flavor. Tried 3 different varieties and the yeast doughnut did nothing for me. Prefer General American - bigger and better. So yeah, underwhelming. Not to mention this place is pretty hard to find as there is little outside signage that you can see from the street - by the time you see it, too late to pull over and park anywhere close. Will be curious to see how long they last.

We are in Indy for the weekend from Chicago. I had the cinnamon sugar waffle and my wife got the dark chocolate bacon donut. My waffle was amazing. My wife was obsessed with the dark chocolate bacon donut. It actually was dark chocolate and the frosting was to die for. We wish we could go back for more! The place was so cute and the employees were so kind. They let us bring in our dog which was a huge plus! Highly recommend!!

It's very hard to start this review. I come across these amazing at a free taste testing they had at Calvin Fletcher's this past weekend. They were very organized and got quite a crowd in there. I was very impressed. My friend and I had a great cup of coffee and then had the chance to try some awesome doughnuts. I tried a chocolate glazed bacon doughnut as well as a chocolate espresso doughnut. They were both very good. The chocolate bacon was a yeast doughnut and the chocolate espresso was a cake doughnut. I find most places either do one or the other very well however I think these guys did a great job with both. The cake was nice and moist but not overly moist so it didn't stick to the top of your mouth for hours on end like some of the other guys. The yeast was not too sweet so you can really enjoy the frosting and bacon. It was like sweet breakfast in my mouth I LOVE IT!. They are not situated in a location yet but they do have a kickstarter and I for one would love it if you would help them out and donate anything so we can get that amazing chocolate frosted bacon doughnut out there for everyone. Every dollar helps. bit.ly/Rocket_88

Nice atmosphere, fast, friendly service, excellent beverage selection. The doughnuts look small but dense and very filling, you won't go hungry! I tasted 3 of the doughnuts: the maple pecan was my least favorite because it was a little heavy on the maple, needed more pecan balance, but it was still really good. My husband and I loved the chocolate bacon and especially the pumpkin brown butter (I think that's what it was called, can't remember the actual name?) doughnuts. Looking forward to going back.

The brown butter glazed pretzel doughnut was probably in my top 3 life doughnut experiences; I can't wait to see what other inventive treats they'll have next time I'm in. The coffee was great, the seating was cozy, there were lots of local food books/magazines out to read, and the wall lists all the local products they use. Now that I know there's wifi, I'd totally return to hang out and get work done with a sweet treat.

I've been there three times now, and I've got seriously mixed thoughts. The doughnuts are tasty and the coffee is delicious. But the service is god awful. But if service doesn't matter to you, then it's absolutely worth checking out.

"Dougnut" miss out on the opportunity to Rocket 88! ;)

Oh. My.

My resolution for 2015 was to never again eat a doughnut. But then a friend convinced me to go to Rocket 88 with her. I thought to myself, "A little doughnut never hurt nobody." So I tried a bite. I think I blacked out because when I came to it turned out that had I eaten three doughnuts. Needless to say, my resolution is now to eat more doughnuts. This place is incredible. The owner and head baker are awesome people. The maple and pecan is the best, though I imagine you can't go wrong with any selection.

I've been there three times now, and I've got seriously mixed thoughts. The doughnuts are tasty and the coffee is delicious. But the service is god awful. But if service doesn't matter to you, then it's absolutely worth checking out.

Ginger-Lemon I had the opportunity to get a donut from the cart at my office. I was hesitant, but I'm so glad I did. The donut is more chewy than pillowy and the glaze is spot on. I am a fan.

No.

The best donuts in Indianapolis!!!! Definitely my favorite donut place. They taste the best when they're fresh out of the oven. The only downside is that I wish they were open later.

I love the food, the coffee, the staff! It's easily the best doughnut in town! I really enjoy the space as well. Right on my way into work!

We just left there on this beautiful morning!! We had an amazing experience. They had live music, seating outside, good doughnuts, great sandwiches(only sat and sun), and great coffee. They recycle and compost, that is a plus. Would defiantly recommend!!

Love their hazelnut espresso donut. Very light and airy. Blood orange is delicious. Unfortunately they are smaller than the other donut spot in broad ripple which makes them seem pricey. However, the customer service and quality of the donut far exceeds the other gourmet donut shop.

No flavor for old fashioned donut, except icing. Too thick and dry. Taste like cornbread. Expresso donut was good though.
