This spot was interesting to say the least, very interesting indeed. But not in a good way! I was kind of creeped out by the place and hesitant to walk in, let alone sit down to have a meal. I guess it didn't help that it was dark outside. Ha! The food was pleasant, but everything else was hmmm... I mean this place speaks for itself. The Original Gyro Place was quite run down. Various items were scattered everywhere, like someone has been putting off tidying up. The place is super small. Only fitting about 20 people or less, in my opinion. The décor was non-existent. There may have been some bland photos on the wall, and some dead flowers on the windowsill. It was as though no thought went into the "look" or "feel" of the place. If I were to revisit I would get my meal to-go. The food was enticing. The gyro was properly seasoned, pita bread was soft with just enough crisp, and the flavor was thrilling. I had to keep grapping a napkin because it got messy. The fries were decent. I feel like they were suppose to have some sort of extra spunk to them, but it just didn't work. The gyro was yummy, but overall it was an ok experience. If you can get past the look of the place give it a try. This place is just not an inviting joint. I understand that not every place is going to blow you away with their decorations. But this place had no character whatsoever. There was no color or anything. It was beyond boring. Maybe that's just not in The Original Gyro Joint's interest?! I just think it would attract people and lift the atmosphere of the eatery. Hmmm?!

This place is the hole in the wall without the good food to back it up. I probably spent $8 and only got a medium sized gyro and water. It looks like they are either half moved in or half moved out and theres just some old guys hanging out watching soccer on tv, its dirty, both floor and tables and theres just generally stuff everywhere like its some old mans house who doesnt pick up after himself. The gyro wasnt bad i guess but otherwise not very memorable, just kind of blah and bland, pretty chewy i might add. Doubt ill be back.

NO NO NO kid, in a world with Pita Pit...in a yelp that LIKES PITA PIT...nothing but five stars can do for the real deal. Which the Original Gyros Joint is. Not sure if I was wrong about the item name last time, but looky: I have found THE offering: Classic Shawarma. It's got a heap of that lovely whole-grain slightly marbled (think brisket-y) lamb/beef meat nestled in with a nice tangy diced cucumber/tomato/cilantro mix and doused with what seems to be a blend of tzatziki and hummus-based [googles] tahini sauce. The pita bread, though probably not house-made, is the excellent hot fluffy pillowy-but-substantial sort. The meat fervently drips umami-concentrate. The vegetables provide an offsetting clean coolness. The sauce is rich but not fatty, and seasoned majestically. The Original Gyros Joint is as classic a street food experience as you can get in Indianapolis, and only some moron bringing an absurdly pretentious clinical approach to Yelp would think to offer it just 4 stars. And you know what they say: don't be That Guy.

My husband and I stopped into the Gyros Joint for lunch one day during the week. The food was ok, but the whole experience was overshadowed by how dirty and cluttered the main sitting area was. It's really gross. There's crap everywhere and we were constantly swatting flies while trying to enjoy our food. Perhaps on a late night, I would be able to ignore everything and just enjoy the soft pita stuffed with yummy goodness, but in the light of day the environment is distracting. Basically, the Gyros Joint needs beer goggles.

Here is another place getting one more star than it probably deserves for filling a niche in my backlog of restaurants. This place is open late and has lamb--the only reasons I go here. The gyros are good but pretty much like you would get anywhere else. The shawarma and donair are made with lamb and are both excellent. I saw recently they've expanded to having a seating area. I haven't yet been but I'm sure the atmosphere panders to the Broad Ripple crowd. This is one of the few places in the Broad Ripple strip worth checking.

Pretty good gyro's for a late night craving. Haven't tried much of anything else there though. I always love me a good Gyro and was really happy to find this place is right in the middle of Broad Ripple. It may not be the cleanest place as other has mentioned, but the lamb gyro's are really good. They have a take out window on the side of the building and a dinning room as well.

Went here today. Should have known not to since all the restaurants around were busy and no one was here.. But, I love gyros! Place was a mess! Piles of dirty and things swept under the soda machine. Nothing in it's place.. Just nasty dirty.. My mind wonders what the kitchen looks like! Took 20 mins to make 3 gyros. They weren't warm, pita was never warmed and was hard. Barely any meat. Not like I wanted more anyways, it was crunchy! Left a really really bad after taste after. Do not go here no matter how much you love gyros!!

Wow. Just eww! Dirty, smelly, and dark. I might have gotten over these three issues if the gyro hadn't been Luke warm and so thinly shaved, it was like tough bacon. We all felt a little "squeamish" after it was served. Obviously they have fallen on some hard times. I hope they can return to their "original" goodness someday. Until then, take a pass!!

Surprisingly, one of the few non-chain operated places to eat after 10 pm in B-rip on a Saturday night. I was certainly hoping for some great grub, since the the young man at the counter was super nice. Unfortunately, my bf and I were both a bit disappointed. I ordered the "Original Gyro" expecting tons of meat. However, it seemed like the baby portion that was missing lettuce. Is it just me or do we all expect a regular gyro to be overflowing with meat? My bf ordered the "Classic Shawarma - no tomatoes." They got his order wrong by adding tomatoes and skipping the lettuce too. So we ended up bummed with the end result. What we should have done was ordered fries to make it all better.

Past reviews here are outdated and don't value the nice owner, who handed me a scrumptious loaf of baklava and genuinely consoled me to take it easy.
