I was so excited to try out this new place with my husband since we live downtown. We walked in and the place was really neat inside, plus there is an outside patio area, which is where we decided to sit. Once we were seated outside (there were only 3 other tables occupied), we waited quite a while for our server to come. No big deal. Once he did arrive (after about 10 minutes) we sat an empty tray on our table, looked at us and said, "to drink?". Not, "hello!", "Welcome", not anything. So we ordered our drinks and waited. And waited. Finally we gave up and left. Wish we could have experienced 9 Irish Brothers food, but probably won't bother coming back.

Tried the Mass Ave location for the first time Saturday. My husband got sirloin steak. He was pleased that they cooked it as ordered, good seasoning. Generous serving of mashed potatoes (champs). Green beans fresh. He found the Irish soda bread a bit sweet. Side salad had limp carrots. I ordered the fish and chips which I have had numerous times in their Lafayette locations. The chips and dipping sauce were as good as I remember. My husband ate my coleslaw and said it was creamy. Well my fish was .... ok. The fish itself was mild whitefish and cooked through. The beer batter was chewy and so tough I couldn't cut it with a fork. I should have said something to the waiter. Not at all like what I expected from previous visits. Don't know what they could have done to it. My beer was great. Friendly staff.

Stopped in for a drink before a game and the bar staff was great. Even though they were in the middle of a big rush they were very attentive. Look forward to coming back to try the food.

Just had a whisky or two here. Very good vibe. Liked the music and the service.

Great to see another quality bar on Mass Ave - ended up coming here twice in a day between a happy hour from work and late night adventures and both times had a very good experience. The space is pretty great and has a better feel than other Irish pubs in the downtown Indy area. Really enjoyed the Irish music (recorded, not live when I was there) as well - was more chill when I was there after work and amped up a bit later in the night. Plenty of great beer options on tap, and the appetizer I had a little of was really good. Service was great, especially for it being the first few weeks. Right now they're closing relatively early (1 am) while getting started, but looking forward to visiting in the future and it becoming a frequent stop on the Mass Ave bar crawl.

First impressions are the most important and Nine Irish Brothers did not disappoint! We stopped in on our way to a concert at the Murat and found a warm, welcoming staff that was a perfect compliment to the delicious food. We shared the Sriracha mussels and a half order of the fish and chips - nice portions and great flavors! Next time we are downtown we will make a point to come back and visit this fun establishment!

Maybe I'm a little biased, but nine Irish brother gives me nostalgia for college days. A native to the Irish atmosphere and most of the chants/songs due to my time at Purdue gives me a whole new outlook on nine Irish in indy. Something different about nine Irish that I didn't know at Purdue: they have the best guiness pour in the state. When our waiter told me, I of course, didn't believe that they had won an award for them. Upon ordering it, I love dark beers as it is, I found that he was 100% correct. Smoother than any guiness I have tasted stood corrected. Nine Irish had a fantastic menu and always have a great band who play all of the Irish favorite like "hey wife". The only thing I might change about the space is the comfort of the chairs. When we go we stay for hours on end and we stay because the service is great, the beer is phenomenal the food is perfect and the band's are fun. But the seating is straining and could be better.

The food is okay. Shepard's pie is lamb - cottage pie is beef... Service can seriously lack when busy! One of the few places that won't look at you sides if you order a cider with ice.

A surprisingly large spot, with live music, a good selection of tap beers and a good kitchen! I was just walking by on my way to a different restaurant on Mass Ave, but I was with my dad and he suggested we just eat at Nine Irish Brothers because there was some music coming from inside. They had a truly Irish band, complete with bagpipes. It was great! There was also a good diverse crowd inside. I enjoyed a BLT and my dad, a steak. We were both pleased.

Ok. So the place was dead at 530 pm on a sunday. So why in the world wouldn't we have been waited on. Needless to say that every server walked by our table. Hostess just looked dumbfounded that we left and got the unconvincing "oh sorry". Sad!!!!

Delicious food, friendly staff & great drinks. The entertainment is always good too! I love the pub chips, bomb wings, Guinness stew & shepherds pie in particular. Husband loves the whiskey flights and selection. This place is huge. Way bigger than it looks from outside. The patio is nice too. I really like the purse hooks under the bar. Surprisingly good beer selection. I'm a big fan of the People's Farmers Daughter.

I've eaten here a couple of times and found all the food tasty. But only the fish n chips stand out as superior. They are battered perfectly with a great flavor and a satisfying snap. The lobster bisque is good but there are few if any lobster chunks and the flavor is much milder than most. The red pepper and Gouda soup is better. The problem with their soups is that they are way overpriced for what you get. The "bowl" is pretty much cup size and it's $7.49! The same problem is evident with the steamed mussels. For 15 bucks you get only 18 mussels. But they were good, in a white broth that tasted like oyster stew. I also did like the Molly Mallow sandwich (grilled turkey and Swiss cheese). Nothing special but still good. I'm really like the ambience of the place. It feels very Irish, from the decor to the music.

Always a great time at this place. Live music on Saturday nights (and maybe others as well - I just usually land there on Saturdays.) Our waitress was top notch. We wanted to keep our drinks Irish themed and she kept the recommendations coming. When you go - you absolutely MUST try the Irish Breakfast shot. It tastes like a liquid pancake. No lie. I didn't try it, but my friend also tried a lunch box. He said it tasted like orange sherbet. Go. Eat, drink, be merry!!

Normally one of our favorites on the Ave. It took over 60 minutes after we ordered to we get our food. The waiter said they sent out food to the wrong table. It still took another 30 minutes! Once it arrived the chicken was so over cooked I couldn't cut it. The fish tacos (the reason we come here) tasted so fishy and so tuff we couldn't eat it. This place went downhill fast. This is the second bad experience here. Last time we couldn't get anyone to wait on us.

Indianapolis has come a long way over the years when it comes to restaurants. The newest addition to Mass Ave, 9 Irish Brothers, is another great example of how awesome the Circle City is when it comes to great food, live music and an all-around fun place to be. Not into the live music? The patio seemed to be a favorite among many.. it was full when I arrived, and full when I left around 11pm. I swung by for a pint on opening night, and was lucky enough to have friends that had staked out a spot right in front of the stage, allowing us to watch Lachlan perform. Talk about a great duo.. I even checked the restaurants website to see if they were booked for entertainment again.. thankfully they'll be back in July. The place comes about as close as I think Indy will ever get to an authentic Irish bar. A massive bar with a healthy beer, wine and spirit menu that included local beer selections from Triton as well as Towyard. TV's were a little smaller than I expected, but they blended into the background well enough that you could see them if you wanted too, but they were out of the way if you didn't. Even though it was opening night, the staff seemed to be able to handle it very well. Our server checked on us at least a half dozen times while we sipped our pints and watched the band perform. Menu items on the menu included the traditional irish pub fare: fish and chips, full irish breakfast, reubens, etc. I'm really looking forward to trying one of the dinners the next time I'm there. In terms of the price, they appear to be in line with what I have come to expect on Mass Ave: $15ish per entree and slightly less for sandwiches. 9 Irish Brothers.. welcome to the neighborhood. I think we're going to become pretty good friends.

9 Irish Brothers saved might night on one hand but also crashed my hopes in another. It saved my life by being one of the few places on Mass. Ave that could serve a party of nine without an hour wait, which was also. It crashed my hopes by delivering a less than fantastic meal. First off place is deceptively large, from the outside it looks like a small establishment but it appears to go on forever once you get inside, we were seated in the backroom, way in the back which must be where they sit all their large or obnoxious guest because one customer was overly loud with quite a foul mouth in the section. Staff is friendly, the doorman checking IDs was nice, as were the hostess, wait staff and everyone else I interacted with. My food just left a lot to be desired. I went with breaded tenderloin and my first issue is the tenderloin is served as a sandwich but is way too big for the bread they provide. The tenderloin was also very dry. The accompanying potatoes were decent, crisp but not overly greasy but couldn't make up for the over-sized hockey puck which was my breaded tenderloin. Nice beer flight selection was well worth the money as 4 6 ounce samples were nicely priced with a variety of options. I wish the food would have been better unfortunately because the food let me down so much I can't recommend a visit.

Love the Irish everything. What's left to say? Guinness is one of my favorite beers so i was instantly in like with this place. Going to have to come back and ride the bar stools for some more hours to see if there is any real love there. Sheperd's pie == good Portions == huge.

We had really high expectations for this new pub, but sadly were disappointed. Nine Irish Brothers cropped up on Mass Ave back in the spring and it was exciting to have an Irish pub among the staples in this trendy part of town. We finally popped in for brunch on a Sunday and were impressed by the size of this place, but immediately noticed just how empty it was. We were promptly seated at a table that wobbles and seats that were far too tall for the table. We ordered Bloody Mary's first, which were decent but massively over priced. We followed that up with a food order and both had sandwiches and fries. The sandwiches were good but fairly small. The fries were good and at least they had malt vinegar on the table. Staff didn't even ask if we would like another drink or anything else. Simply brought the check a few minutes after bringing the food. Gave the impression they wanted to move out patrons quickly, which makes no sense given the place was dead. Unfortunately, we left hungry, feeling like we paid way too much for what we got. This place has potential, but they need to work on menu, pricing, and policy, I really hope management reads yelp.

Goodbye Chatham Arch Neighborhood. This was our last meal as homeowners in our old neighborhood. 9IB is walking distance from our hold home. It was a great send off, it fits our neighborhood and captures what Mass Ave is about, fun, food, and entertainment. It's a great people watching spot. I will be happy to return.

Great pub with a lot of space inside. It fits your expectation for an Irish pub. A fellow patron told me this is the default Purdue pub for watching sporting events.

I may be partial to this place because I'm a Purdue grad and this is one of the favorite spots on campus for the majority of Purdue students. SO when I found out it was coming to Indy I was SUPER pumped. I've been to the Mass Ave located several times for lunch, dinner, and just drinks. The fish and chips are my go to, HUGE portion even with the half order. I've never seen anyone finish a full order, and I can;t even finish a half. Shepards pie is good, but not my favorite thing there. POTS OF GOLD, yum! My favorite part about this place is the decor and the vibe. The owner, Jerry, walks around most days and nights conversing with customers. The beer selection is wonderful, all the irish favorite are present. I would definitely say the price point here is average $11-16 for entrees. A pint is anywhere from $5-$9. They brew their own Irish Red and if you like reds, try it!!! It's awesome. They have a live band a couple nights a week and I'm always impressed. The music is of the Irish style of course.

Stopped in here before going onto our final destination. The server was attentive and was on the ball. We started off with the Goat Cheese Fritters. These looked absolutely gorgeous but when I bit into them they were half cold. They were still tasty but if they were cooked completely they would have been better. Tim's "Hello" Connemara Chicken was really good. We finished off the night by taking home the Irish Cheesecake which was wonderful.

I came here to drink, not eat, so I cannot comment on the food. They were very busy on a Friday night, and they were able to seat us within a few minutes. It's very nice inside. Lots of wood lends a cozy feel, and live Irish music played in the background. Sometimes live music can be way too loud at a bar, but I thought it was just right here. Something did seem manufactured about the decor. Maybe everything just seemed really new and clean, rather than that old, grubby hole-in-the-wall Irish pub-type feel. The service was really great, which was surprising considering they were very busy. The beer selection was decent, but not great. As you'd expect, they have a great selection of scotches and Irish whiskies. I had a great experience, and I'll be back soon.

My wife and I were here recently for her birthday. I had heard good things about this restaurant and we were not disappointed. We started with the Chicken Goujons for an appetizer. It came with a side of spicy Shamrock sauce, which the waiter recommended that I keep and use with later with the chips from my fish and chips, which I had ordered for my meal. The appetizer was good and the waiter was correct in how good the sauce was with the chips. I'll definitely order it as a side the next time I stop in at the restaurant. The fish and chips also did not disappoint and were more than filling. I'm glad I only had the half order for dinner. The selection in the bar is very good. I enjoyed a Harp with my fish and it's a choice I'll make again and again when eating fish and chips. It's such a good combination. Since it was my wife's birthday, she was brought a complimentary bread pudding which was warm and very tasty. I recommend it if you want dessert. All in all, we were very happy and are looking forward to coming back on Friday nights for some raucous good times with live music.

Sunday Funday is filled with brunch and friends! We wanted to try someplace a bit different and we heard they had a brunch menu. When you first walk in you don't realize just how BIG this place is. Tables with stools dotted the floor, long benches along the walls - looks like a great place for friends to sit and have a pint. We were disappointed to find no brunch menu. There is Irish breakfast available all day long but the thing that truly makes it authentic - the baked beans - is not on the plate. The appetizer menu has a number of options - good mix of fried and fresh. The dinner menu is pretty big. Nice that they offer half portions. Service was friendly and quick. Always nice. Here is the thing that I wasn't really crazy about - the prices. They just seemed really high for what they offer. Most of the appetizers are $10 - so we skipped. I ordered a half order of the Sheppard pie. When it arrived it was a scoop of mashed potatoes on top of the filling with cheese melted over the top. The soda bread that was served was rather dry. My hubby ordered a turkey sandwich that had 1000 Island dressing and slaw. I of course took a bite - it was ok. I just don't know how 1000 Island dressing makes anything Irish - and I've been to Ireland. That is one thing I saw on the menu a lot - 1000 Island dressing. His sandwich was served with potato pucks - no other way to describe them. They are think pieces of fried potato. They are so big you can barely taste the malt vinegar you splash on them. To make it seem like brunch we ordered Bloody Mary's - they were pretty good! I think it is worth stopping in and trying it out if you have never been but not going to be a place I stop in at often. I'm sure I will go back for a beer but not sure about dinner.

Stopped into Nine Irish Brother's last weekend with friends and family. It's a great spot on Mass ave, made to look old but actually brand new. The service was good, the beer flowing and the food didn't miss a beat. A worthwhile place to have dinner if down on Mass Ave in Indianapolis.

Went here on opening day for drinks, soccer and food. Great atmosphere, feels like an Irish Bar. I asked about the name and supposedly it is true. There are 9 brothers and 5 sisters!! 14 kids, holy....can you imagine? They did not have official menus yet, but instead gave me a print out of all the things they can make. Hmm ok.....did not deter me. I ordered the Fish & Chips as you always should and they did not disappoint. The large order comes with 2 massive pieces of fish battered and fried. Dee-Licious! I want to go back for some of those. The "chips" are potatoes cut in the thickness and shape of fried pickles. Interesting choice. They are very delicious because of the thickness and substance. They have a Guinness Menu that showcases all the half and half drinks you can make such as a black & tan, Snakebite, Black Velvet and so on. Service was also excellent although I'm sure that has to do with the fact it was opening night and all hands were on deck. There must have been 2:1 server to customer ratio when I was in there. Overall great experience and would come back in a second! :)

O'Bryan's Nine Irish Brothers has always kept us coming back to Lafayette. Driving an hour and a half for a restaurant speaks volumes, yes? Hey, I asked you a question! Isn't that just insane? To spend that much time, effort and gas for what?! Well, I will tell you! Fish and Chips. Some MASSIVE, tender, flakey, juicy fish and chips. Specfreakintabulous draught system that pours a good pint of the black stuff. Or the tan stuff. Or black and tan stuff. Or, if you are feeling randy, the local double IPA from People's Brewing Company (Hopkilla) in cloud form (nitro). Perfect. Always at least passable service, often great. Cozy atmosphere. Large, winding layout with those addicting nooks and crannies. To have all of this in INDY is a blessing of the Irish saints. The space seems smaller than the original but look about and turn a corner or two and it expands. Still, on a busy night, might be hard to find a table at this location. A pub like this stands apart from pubs like Claddagh in that it has soul. It is the same in almost every way superficially but there is just this aura. I dig auras.

Was excited to see a new Irish Pub as I'm always excited to try fish & chips and new and different places...however, this just didn't measure up. The location is great and the inside and patio are really nice, unfortunately, it was the food that was just "meh". Maybe it's personal preference, but a giant piece of fish filet breaded isn't quite reminiscent of "fish & chips" to me. It was so thick and large, that the breading got a bit lost. The chips were very "potato-y". I would have preferred something a bit more crisp. The server was very nice, so it wasn't a completely unpleasant experience, I just was a bit disappointed in the food.

It was OK. The bartender was really nice and did a great job. The decor looks cool, although it's kind of Pottery Barn-ish for an Irish bar. They had 4 or 5 TV's that were playing a Euro soccer game. I enjoyed the Irish music projected throughout the bar, but the playlist wasn't very long. I was there about 45 minutes and I heard the same song twice (what?). I ordered Irish nachos (fried potato circles with cheese and salsa) and bread pudding. They were both pretty bland and average. Some of the food items on the menu were expensive. The drink specials weren't that special. Nine Irish Brothers isn't a bad place. I just wouldn't recommend it.

  • Joanna B.

Underwhelmed is the word that comes to mind when I think of this establishment. The drinks were average and the food was disappointing. For $30 I got a less than desirable Reuben sandwich with very little cheese, instant potatoes and an average drink. Would I return??? Only if there was good music and only for drinking.

This is a great Irish style bar. They have People Brewing Company create beer just for them, the food is great, service is good, and occasionally they have live music. I had the fisherman's pie the last time I went and I practically inhaled it because it was so good.

I, along with many others Boilermakers, have fond memories of drinking at the original Nine Irish location in West Lafayette. I know from talking with Jerry, the owner of the restaurants, that opening an Indianapolis location was a big decision - there were concerns about being able to maintain the same quality in a new location. Well Jerry, I don't think you need to worry any longer. The new Nine Irish Brothers on Mass Ave is pretty great. It has a slightly different atmosphere than the Purdue location (the same colors and furniture, but less memorabilia on the walls and more of a streamlined, metro feel), but still delivers on quality food and beverage. The fish and chips, my go-to meal, tastes just as good as it did in W. Lafayette. And the Guinness, oh the Guinness! Nine Irish has forever ruined me - I can't order a Guinness anywhere other than here. They've been designated as serving the best pint of Guinness in the US for a reason, so order up a pint and see for yourself. (Just be warned that a good pint of Guinness takes a few minutes to make correctly, so don't expect your waiter to be back with it in the same time it takes him to fill your water glass.) They also have an extensive selection of whiskey, Scotch, bourbon, and other liquors. Ask for the list and you'll surely find something you like (or ask for a suggestion, as many of the servers are knowledgeable on the subject). Overall, this new Nine Irish location feels like home. I love their food and perhaps enjoy their drink a little too much. The atmosphere is relaxed and the services is friendly. I'm sure I'll end up back at this location again, since it's a lot easier to go to Mass Ave for a good pint of Guinness than to West Lafayette.

The food here is pretty good. Both times I've been it was not busy, but had a very long wait for food. Last time the appetizer came out with the entree. Don't know if that was more of a kitchen or server malfunction. I'll go back someday, but not running.

As most of you know, 9 Irish is a well-known establishment at Purdue University and I was initially excited when I had heard they were coming to Indy. I have been there 3-4x now and can tell you with confidence I probably won't go back unless I'm strongly convinced by others in the group I'm with. The food is decent and fairly priced. It is similar to the food up north and I have no complaints here. It's traditional Irish pub food done decently, but not exceptionally. I would recommend the shepard's pie the most. The service has ranged greatly. I have always had great servers, but have had problems with the bartenders either being rude or off-putting. Sometimes it feels as though they think they are running a classier establishment than in reality. Beers are also a little pricey and the bartenders really don't know how to poor a drink. I ordered a bourbon neat one night and literally was poured about 0.25 oz. This is simply unacceptable. They also have live Irish music on a lot of weekends, which I cannot stand, but if this is your sort of thing you will like it. If nothing else, 9 Irish will provide a place for Purdue alumni frat bros to rage in nostalgic glory.

Not many options in Lafeyette but this place is a solid choice if you want to grab some grub and/or drinks.

This place is just fine. The small town girl in me thinks the drinks are a bit pricey, but our server made 'em strong. For a Friday night, the place was busy but not overly packed. Not too loud, plenty of space even for a larger group. O, and some good looking bartenders. Hey, gotta appreciate a little eye candy right?

    (3)

Although they pour a great Guinness, the bartenders are cocky and service is horrible. Too many good restaurants in Indy that value their customers.

We love this place. The fish and chips are everything you want from fish and chips. The mussels in the cream sauce are excellent. And try the bomb sauce. It's amazing! Definitely a restaurant we will be returning to in the near future

I had the stew and goat cheese balls. I would not order the stew again, nor would I call it Irish stew. The goat cheese balls were good and unique, I think they could've used a better sauce. I would definitely go back, because I love the atmosphere. And I would try the fish and chips next time, that seems to be the thing to get. I'll let you know.

I desperately wanted to give this place 5 stars. The layout is wonderful. Lots of nooks and crannies to hang out in, giving this decent sized pub a small feeling. There is a wide Irish whiskey selection and friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. I started with a perfectly poured Guinness. And then my shepherd's pie arrived. It tasted like ground beef, water and mashed potatoes. I have never seen such a watery shepherd's pie. I sent it back and ordered the fish and chips instead. The bartender was friendly and apologetic. The fish in the fish and chips was weirdly soggy and not very hot. I suggest the kitchen staff pat the fish dry before breading. Just my two cents. I have worked in restaurants and they have only been open two weeks, so I chalked it up to opening jitters. And then it happened. A gentleman yelled at a staffer in the middle of the bar, completely making a scene. "I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANY EXCUSES" and so on. I asked a bartender who he was and when I mentioned "the guy yelling" the response was, "yelling? Oh, yeah the GM" There are plenty of bars and pubs in Indy, I'm just not sure I want to hang out in a joint that is poopy to staff.

Like we need another bar, right? Well, this is a pub done right. Ample and varied seating options - including a patio and several long bar-like tables spaced away from the main bar enough to have room to eat. And the food seems more than an afterthought. Probably the best Fish 'n' Chips in town. Actually CRISPY, unlike the soggy sponges of Chatham Tap and Claddah. Can't wait to give the stews a try.

As a Boilermaker, I have memories of visiting the West Lafayette (original) location of this pub. As expected, the food and drinks were great at the new location. The service was decent, but it lacked some of the passion and general care that one grows accustomed to at the WL location.

Good service, great food and pleasant dining experience! I've come to expect this of 9 Irish. I am a Lafayette native so I was happy to see they opened a restaurant on Mass Ave! Try the black and blue beer.

3.5 stars is probably more accurate, but Yelp doesn't do halvsies. The food is pretty solid- nothing we had really stuck out as remarkable, but, rather, really solid Irish pub food. We started off with fried pickles, loved how they sliced them, but the breading didn't stick to them. Ah well. The pickles came with their (proprietary, I think) BOOM sauce, a condiment readily paired with a number of other menu items. This sauce was...puzzling and not in a good way. It tasted like curried maple syrup. I'm not the most seasoned Hibernophile around, so maybe this flavor profile is a "thing" I'm just not familiar with, but it struck me as exceptionally disgusting. If you are into curried maple syrup, you'll probably dig it. Next up, my Black and Blue salad and my wife's half order of fish and chips. The steak strips were by no means medium rare, but they were so very tender and savory. Beyond that, however, the salad was a rather unimpressive smattering of lettuce, bleu cheese crumbles, dressing, and red onions. Yeah, Irish cuisine isn't exactly known for its leafy greens, so I suppose that's my own fault. The slice of soda bread accompanying my salad was a pleasant surprise, it's cakey sweetness a nice finishing touch. The fish and chips, though: yes. The golden brown fillet looked large and thick enough to use as a truncheon should the need arise, and the thick crisp chips were baked to a pleasing fluffiness. Rock solid platter of fish and chips, and I'm sure they will rescue many a bar bouncing Mass Aver. The service was spot on. We were promptly greated and sat. Our server was just the right amount of chatty. The patio, however, seemed like it had one or two tables too many, and I think it was just our particular seat, but the tinny outdoor speaker piping out "traditional" Irish music was aimed right at us and provided a musical backdrop as subtle and enjoyable as a gaggle of fighting feral cats or a symphony of nails on chalkboards.

I studied abroad in Ireland and I love that here they have purse hooks, which every Irish pub has, which may not seem like much, but makes the place much more authentic to me :) I had the fish and chips (of course) and they were fabulous! The chips are to die for!

The food is great and reasonably priced, the fish and chips are awesome. There's an awesome beer selection with plenty of local brew and a large variety of whiskey as well. The bar is large, plenty of seating with a great atmosphere. There's a nice outdoor patio for nice days. Plenty of cool Irish decor. It's a great location on Mass Ave for a quick lunch or dinner and some drinks afterwards.

Very Fun! Great food and drinks! I had the Shepherds Pie and it was very very good! It does get really busy here, so it is best to go earlier in the evening! I will visit again.

Party of 5 yesterday for a wonderfully delicious lunch. Fish & chips did not disappoint. Bangers & Mash ...tasty too. We had a very good server, Paige,, she filled us in on the background of the locally owned place. Loved that she had 1st hand knowledge of the food & drinks. Happy that they came down from Lafayette to open this place on Mass Ave. We're coming back for more.

I really liked Nine Irish Brothers, even though I didn't really expect to. I went on a Saturday night and there was some really good live music playing. Some friends ordered food so I tried the fries, which were really good. They were round cut so they were crisp on the outside and kind of like mashed potatoes on the inside. They had some local beer options, but not a ton. i decided to go for Guinness given the setting a music. Overall I had a really good time here.

I'm feeling middle of the road on this one. First and foremost, the service was fantastic. Our waiter was on it and handled our plethora of questions very well --- "what would you order?" "in a toss up between the shepherd's pie and corned beef and cabbage - - who wins?" I really appreciated the vibe inside the restaurant - all wooden and cozy. Definitely the kind of place to hang out after work on a week night in the winter. Unfortunately, something about this place feels very manufactured to me. Maybe it was the instant potatoes that threw me off. C'mon, this is an Irish joint and homemade potatoes are pretty simple and budget-friendly. If you like your corned beef on the traditional side, note that theirs is shredded. Somewhat similar to pulled pork. Not that it's a bad thing - just different. I'll return to try out the indoor space rather than the patio next time. Maybe the Guinness beef stew will be my next target?

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner. It was our first visit. Not crowded on a Monday night so we weren't rushed and able to enjoy our dinner and speak to the server about the menu options and the entertainment options. We told the hostess it was my birthday and she said I would get a free shot. I was game and when the server approached I asked about it. Not only did I get a shot I also got a free bread pudding dessert. I had never had Kilbeggan whiskey before and I enjoyed it. Also not a big fan of bread pudding in general but I have to say their's was so good! I had the chicken dinner with champs (mashed potatoes) and steamed vegetables and soda bread. It was delicious. The sauce/gravy was amazing over the chicken and mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the half order of fish and chips with cole slaw. He was stuffed as the half order was a significant sized meal. We will definitely go back soon. The food was wonderful, service was good and the atmosphere was nice. Plus we heard one of our favorite bands, The Fighting Jamesons, being played. We've seen that band several times at Irish Fest so it was fun to hear their music being played at the pub.

Best fish and chips I have ever had! Also delicious: the traditional bread puddings. For appetizer, both fried pickles and goat-cheese fritters are tasty. I had been many a time at 9 Irish in West Lafayette and was very happy when Mass Ave opened.

June-2014-This seemed like a real Irish bar, to me. A group singing Irish songs, with some sing-along by the patrons. It was packed, being open only a week, and it is a huge space. I can tell that this is going to be a go-to place. My friend and I only had drinks, so, a later review will comment on the food. Update-08.08.15-Second visit. Went early on a Saturday, around 5:30, and it was already busy. Matthew was our server and did a good job. I had the Veggie Burger, which was good, and the Corn Chowder, which was excellent. My wife had the Full Irish Breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, pub chips and a bread choice. She gave it a 10. I had some of her pub chips and loved them, especially with the spicey shamrock sauce. Will return some day.

I always love finding an Irish restaurant and this place has a great location towards the end of mass ave. it's your average, in some ways, sports bar. But some evenings they will have live Celtic music and that's nice. The pot of gold appetizers are tasty albeit overpriced for me - it's mini baked potato skins. Any Irish restaurant worth anything must have shepherds pie, and this place does. I'm hardcore about that dish and I rate it as 7/10. It's solid and I enjoy it , it's just not the best I've ever had. However, their mashed potato topping and sauce in the meat deserves to be checked out. Just when you go there, remember to pay the meter parking!

The whiskey selection is nice. Our server was fast and friendly (and cute btw) This review is about the food. The place is not authentic or irish. The corned beef was lame. The sauerkraut was flavorless. The potatoes were not even potatoes! If you just want some drinks than yeah, go ahead, but if you want a meal go elsewhere.

Nice faux wood floor and green walls. Great view out the windows along the streets but I dont believe they open??? Wide dark wood bar top with large ledge but no rail. Box wooden foot rest. Wooden stools with no back. Bottles all over the bar back, for serving and shelves. Large space almost a V shape. Bar may have 20-25 stools. Several high top tables. Group seating and lower eating tables along north windows. Typical irish bar menu, but food is good. Service is alright, can get bad if the place gets busy.

What an amazing spot! For my birthday, my family planned to take me out for dinner and I chose 9IB. I had no idea that they offered a free whisky shot anddd bread pudding to anyone there for their birthday. Such a treat!! We had amazing waiter who got us our drinks, appetizers, and dinner lightning fast despite the place being packed. All 5 of us ordered fish and chips and my family, who had never been to 9IB, said it was the best fish and chips they'd ever had. I'll be back soon & highly recommend to anyone who asks for good food and atmosphere on Mass Ave.

Nine Irish Brothers does the Irish theming right, but doesn't quite match up to the quality of other Mass Ave. restaurants. I dined in on a Wednesday night and there was a live band playing Irish music, which was a nice treat. They've got lots of TVs in the dining room too. We were initially seated at a short table in the center of the room with short, backless stools as seats. These weren't very comfortable but they weren't busy and let us move to a booth without trouble. Our service was poor, but I'm hoping our server was new. For example, Me: "Are your 'pub chips' fries or chips? Server: "Well, they're like potatoes...that are sliced..." Me: "Hmm... ok..." She also described the 'shamrock sauce' as a "spicy bistro sauce." Needless to say, ordering felt like a bit of a gamble! I played it safe and went with the fish & chips. (served to me without any napkins or silverware...come on, girl!) The fish was tasty and well battered. However, the batter didn't stick to the fish so it fell apart as I was eating it and was impossible to dip in tartar sauce. Despite the mess, the flavor was good. Nine Irish Brothers would be a fun visit on St. Patrick's Day, but I don't think I'd return there on a normal night out downtown. Oh and FYI- the pub chips are sliced round like chips, but are thick and soft in the center like fries!

Having lived in Ireland for 4 months and frequented my fair share of pubs while doing so, I'd say Nine Irish is about as good as you can get without hopping on an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin. The fish and chips are some of the best I've had in the States and I've heard two different groups play Irish music here - both of them had everyone clapping along and dancing. Great stuff. Guinness in the States is hit or miss for me on quality, this place had a hit. My favorite drink to order is the Black Velvet, which is Guinness and Magner's cider. My two favorite Irish beverages combined into one filling brew :) I still have yet to try the whiskey flight - that'll be an adventure for another day. Something I don't love about this place is the lack of TVs, and the ones they do have aren't necessarily placed in the most strategic locations. That's not a huge deal, just don't come here if you really want to be able to watch a certain game. The Craic is mighty here - a great alternative to other more "trendy" bars on Mass Ave.

Mass Ave is already a hotbed for pub food, beer, and themed décor; but one thing Nine Irish Brothers does that gives it a leg up is bringing in great, fun, live music. The location is hard to beat right in the center of Mass Ave, and while their patio section does border one of the busier roads in that area, it is still nice to have the large space outside to enjoy a beer on a nice day. This is definitely an Irish themed placed, and it feels like what you would expect an Irish pub to feel like on the inside. There is lots of dark wood and the walls are covered in Irish themed signs and decorations. It's a pretty big place, but when it is full it gets hard to get around in because of the arrangement of everything. There is a very large bar with a lot of seating, and they even have tables that can accommodate large groups. They have plenty of TVs around so you won't miss out on any sports action. The menu is pretty much a carbon copy of all of the Irish pub style restaurants I've ever been to, but all of the things I have tried have been good. They have all of the traditional dishes, and plenty of deep fried appetizers to take care of a late night craving. Their beer list also doesn't venture much from the typical lineup of the most popular things you find at all of these places (Harp, Guinness, Smithwick's, Murphy's, Killian's), although they have a couple taps that get a little different with their offerings. My favorite thing here is coming in to catch some of the live music that they have on the weekends. It's all Irish style music, but it's a lot of fun and the bands are all really good. It does get crowded on these nights, but there is also a lot of seating. Sitting far away from the little stage in the corner will still let you talk to your group across the table, but sitting in one of the seats close to the band will eliminate any chance of communicating with each other. While the music is fun and lively, this isn't a place to come expect to show off your best Irish jig or twirl around a dance partner as there is no space for that. It's more of a sit-in-your-seat-and-watch kind of venue. The service here has been hit or miss, but I don't know if I have ever had any that I would say was exceptional. When it's super busy it obviously get slow, but during the day or on a weeknight if you just want to come in for lunch or dinner I have never had much to complain about. This is definitely a place I would swing by both during the day for a bite to eat and late in the evening on a night out drinking. It's always been a consistent stop to find a nice crowd in a fun setting.

Labor day holiday, just wanted a good burger, it was excellent, Jessica was a very good waitress. Wine, appetizers, no dessert, too full. Will be back soon, for sure. Loved the decor & ambience.

I really love the location of this pub/restaurant. Mass ave my favorite place downtown by far. The service is good, the wait staff and bartenders are attentive. The beer selection is fair with some Irish brews on tap. The food is mediocre in my opinion, with the pricing being a bit high for the quality. However, if you want a beer, and quick appetizer, this is a great place. Also, they have a back room if you have larger groups. I went for a rugby social this past weekend and they fit about 15 of us.

An Irish Gentleman is someone who knows how to play Irish music, but doesn't. This is a good pub, but the music can empty half the joint as soon as it starts.

The service was really good, almost too good. You could tell that the servers were green, as the place just opened two weeks ago. Was there for a drink on Saturday night. The music was live, which is always fun, even though the music wasn't exceptional by any means. Now, a very important tip: run for the hills from the Irish Nachos. These don't deserve a second look. They were bad. Not just bad, but completely reminiscent of elementary school cafeteria beefy yuckiness. An Irish pub needs to take more pride in its Irish nachos--as it is an essential menu item. They were so bad that I wanted to say something to the server, but she was so sweet and attentive, we ultimately didn't. My favorite beers are always red, with my favorite being Ninkasi True Believer Double Red, so I was excited to see a local red on the menu. It tasted like construction paper, and I could hardly choke it down. I nursed that puppy so much because of its poor taste that my company lapped me.

The food is always amazing here. I usually have like 5 courses. You can't go wrong with the Irish Pizza. The lobster bisque is excellent as well. I'm also a fan of the Molly Malloy sandwich. I almost forgot about the Dublin salad, also amazing. I don't usually eat traditional Irish fare like fish and chips or shepherd's pie, but my husband loves those as well as the Guinness stew. The bread pudding was excellent as well. I've also had the salmon which was great. Be sure to check out the live Irish music as well. Don't know of any other bars in the Indy area that have the atmosphere and true Irish music like 9 Bros!

If you are looking for a real Irish pub, or UK pub for that matter, this is about as close as I've seen in Indianapolis. If I lived closer, I could see becoming a regular. A pretty good sized menu very much in the tradition of pub fare, with some additions like some nice salads. I've had several dishes now, and all were excellent. Fish and chips in particular. The fish was light and crunchy, and the potatoes were too good to stop. Their Guinness stew is also a good pairing with an ale, of which they have a limited but high quality selection.

Just a note before I start, this review is based off of one visit. My group and I sat on the patio for lunch which is a lovely, comfortable patio. I was in the mood for a sandwich so I ordered the fried fish sandwich. The piece of white fish was huge! Honestly a little too big, had to cut it in half. It was an ok sandwich, not a lot of flavor. But not worth the $10 price. My boyfriend ordered the classic ham sandwich and he was very disappointed in what he got. The ham looked like it was just ordinary lunch meat slapped between sliced yellow cheese. Plus the sandwich was cold. My friend got breakfast and she thought it was fine, but wouldn't get it again. (Breakfast is hard to mess up) Why I'm giving this place a two star rating is a combination of things. The food is not worth the price range, it's more diner food worthy (which is great when that's what you expect!). But also our experience with the server was one of the worst I've ever had! After he took our drink orders he didn't check on us again... at all. Someone else brought our food with no utensils, we had to wait 10 mins for those. Not a single waiter checked on us the entire time we ate, even though the whole patio was full. I always feel uncomfortable when I have to keep saying "excuse me, can I get some more water" only to be ignored. We then had to go track our waiter down inside (after waiting 20mins) to get our checks. Overall, I won't be going back. I'd rather spend my money where the food is better and I know I can get a glass of water refilled!

Too expensive, too modern, too little parking made for an "okay" experience for this out-of-town guest. Burger $10+ with pub chips. Building is modern with street parking. Many low pub tables with stools for seats - some padded, some not. Wish my experience had been better as other ratings were high. Nothing bad, but nothing great. Not feeling it...
