I had a great experience at the mucky duck today. Our server Ashley was extremely attentive and gave our table advice on what to eat. My company, has a large conference in town next month and I will definitely recommend we stop by the Mucky Duck. I can only hope that we have bartender like Ashley taking care of my fellow employees. Kind Regards, R. Love

The 2 stars go to the fun atmosphere (great deck!) and the OK drinks. But the food was overpriced and underwhelming. Our order was wrong, and the food we did get was both too greasy and had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp too long. Our server was also not a pleasure, but it was a busy Saturday night so I don't exactly blame her. All in all I say go for the drinks, but be drunk when the food gets there so you don't notice its faults.

A few of my friends share an apartment in Southport, just over a mile to Mucky Duck. This place quickly rose on our favorites list, but mostly because of its location. Inside offers pool tables, dart boards, a large walk up bar and plenty of tables. The best part is outside - a huge deck, bar and scattered tables overlook the large pond in the neighborhood. I don't know when or if they offer drink specials, but on my last visit our group of 10 or so was given several free "tastes" by some distributer. The drinks are moderately priced, though I have found better deals in similar venues. I have had the quesadillas and a burger as well as some other things. The food is nothing to write home about, but definitely preferable to any fast food and comparable to most bars you might go to for dinner or lunch. I am sure that I have not had my last trip to this establishment. In short, If I weren't already in Southport, I wouldn't make the trip just for this place.

I came to the Duck regularly in the first couple of years it was open. The patio should be a great place to hang out, but after several expansions, unless it is less than 1/2 full you cannot get any service. The expansions of the patio have not included a bar expansion and this place cannot seem to keep a decent server. Because it is close to home and I want to like it but after the last time of getting poor service, I'm done.

Arrived late Monday about 10ish for a quick bite as I missed dinner flying late into Indy for meetings. Typical friendly sports bar look when i walked in, then sat down at the uncommon U-shaped bar which was very conducive to friendly convo with other bargoers. I was told only a partial menu was available by bartender, no surprise given the time. Well, Josh (bartender) quickly went into action and brought me 2 great appetizers, stuffed Mushrooms and Buffalo Wings, and even had the cook make me a special order wing sauce for dipping. Both were prepared excellent, along with perfect temp Cerveza's to watch MNF and witness the Broncos beat up on the Raiders while relaxing after a long day of flying. Best part, friendliness of other patrons, one of which was Sarah, one of the funniest people i've ever met in my travels (Cheers to that Tequila shot before I left, and I hope your son sticks to MX), and the positive can do work ethic of the bartender (Not only a great bartender, but clearly a great father!) and the cook, ALL making it a great night. Staff went above and beyond by doing all the basics right!!! Love the rubber ducks on the bar by the way, one of ours is on it's way with a green ribbon from Sandy Hook, CT! Sincerely, Gary C. This is my favorite Thursday night/ get hammered place to be. Food is alright, drinks are good. It's a fun place to be.

I'd never been impressed by this place - very average food, subpar drinks, disappointing service, and prices that are too high considering all of that. Then tonight I went in for trivia with my family and friends, as we have done every week for a few months now. My 53 year-old mother did not have her ID, and even though she wasn't even going to drink alcohol, she was kicked out. (She had not been asked for her ID on previous occasions.) The manager was unbelievably rude and unprofessional about the whole situation, refusing to really acknowledge my father as he tried to have a discussion with him (no eye contact, messing with the TV while he yelled over his shoulder to "take it up with the governor.") We were absolutely blown away by how everyone there handled it - even besides the fact that the law very clearly states in multiple ways that she is well over the age where an ID is required, at any variety of places of business. Plus there's just a level of reasonability you expect out of other human beings, especially ones in the service industry. Instead we were encountered by rude half-wits who I sincerely hope lose business as a result of their actions. Go to Detour across the street. Way better.

I am not one for bars but this place was a very nice atmosphere. I was staying at a hotel in this area and walked over for dinner. I was greeted and seated promptly and was made to feel very comfortable right away. The menu is small (its a pub) but offers a lot of items. I ordered a Reuben sandwich with waffle fries and I have to say the service was as good as it was quick. Hats off to them all here at the Mucky Duck Pub, I will be back if in the area again.

Note that this is a smoke hole so the stink hits you as soon as you open the door. Blech. Didn't get any farther than that.

I love this place, but can't quite explain why. You wouldn't know it was there unless you were looking for it, it is tucked behind Carabbas, Texas Roadhouse, and Cheeseburger in Paradise. The inside is kind of dive-y, but the outdoor seating is great! They just expanded the deck area, and they have live music on the stage outside. The menu is pretty standard, but they have great pizza and wings! They often run out of food, one time both items I ordered (pizza first, then fish) were out, so I ended up with an appetizer sampler. The tables and chairs are mis-matched outside, it has a thrown together backyard party feel. There is an outdoor bar with a good selection of beers on tap. They have an area to play corn hole with a few boards for groups of people. There is a lake on the other side of the deck, which adds to the ambiance! Apparently on weekends they open the other side of the indoor bar and play rap music, but it isn't really my scene so I haven't personally experienced this.

I hate to give this place a one star. I normally only go out of my way to write reviews or give feedback in general when I've had amazing service. If it's bad- I leave and never come back. But this place used to have a lot of flavor, a friend told me it's only good at night on the weekends anymore. I think that's very unfortunate. I visited yesterday around 3pm. Walked in and sat at the bar inside, waited 10-15 minutes and never saw the bartender- that's an extremely long time in my opinion. I'm really surprised the other 4 people sitting up there didn't just grab their own drinks because honestly they could have and no one would have noticed. So I headed outside, the patio was open and looked very welcoming. ANOTHER 10 minutes. This time I didn't get it- the bartender was up there, visible- just sort of wondering around. The bar was not busy at all. So, I'm a patient person and don't like to raise my hand to get peoples attention, especially when I'm clearly sitting up there in plain site. She finally looks over and walks over lazily. I order my drink and some Cheesy Fries. She seemed more concerned about a guy sitting up there, she was overly nice to him actually so if he's the bf I'd suggest they hang out after work? 20 minutes for the fries. I've worked in bars and restaurants my whole life so I'm not an idiot to how long it takes to make some Fries or build a drink (or what goes in each one)- the drink is another story entirely. I see my food sitting under the heat lamp from afar, I'm so hungry that I'm half tempted to go grab it myself. Finally after the 20 minutes were up she remembered the food and brought it over. The fries are somehow cold and the cheese is burnt, awesome- I'm so hungry and don't want to wait another 20 so I eat as much of it that I can (the edible looking bits). Another 20. My drinks been empty for I don't even know how long, the girl sitting across from me (who also seemed annoyed by service) had been sitting with an empty beer since I arrived. Yet the bf has been well taken care of- and a couple next to me as well. The lady had ordered a crown and coke and 2 bloody marys within the same hour. I get my check finally and practically run out of there. First of all- the customer should never have to ASK for their server or bartenders name. I don't even expect the repetitive "Hi my names so and so and here's the specials!"- You can just casually slip it into the conversation so I know who I need to ask for next time or just who's making my drinks. Her name was Ashley, by the way. 2nd- never judge a person by their appearance. I'm maybe a year or two older than this girl, and I know a lot of people think that the younger crowd doesn't tip great (perhaps that's why she was so reluctant to give any service) but I actually tip 20-30% as a rule anytime I go out. The bars and restaurants I frequent know this and so they treat me like a friend. I'm from this area, so if you take care of me I'll return and take care of you also. Suggestion: Treat everyone up at your bar like a friend and you'll make good tips. I'm not expecting a kidney, or your life story. Just be pleasant- it's not that hard. 3rd- Honestly I would have stayed longer, ordered more drinks, all around had a decent time and left happy. I was reluctant to leave Ashley with any tip because she seemed so burdened by having to take care of anyone except the bf. So will I be back? Yeah sure! But if I see Ashley bartending or serving- Nah, I'll take business somewhere where the staff can at least pretend they're happy.

Very conveniently located adjacent to several hotels. Went in for a nitecap on a Thursday night. The bartender named Corey was very cool and friendly. He was very thorough in explaining the drink specials to me. The 2.50 domestic pints he mentioned caught my attention. But I opted instead to try a couple of craft beers that are not available in my area. Both were really good and I was glad that I tried them. That was until I cashed out. My total was 13.50. For only two beers?! Should have gone with my instincts. Still a nice place with a decent atmosphere.

This place was a wonderful surprise. It is situated within very easy walking distance of a few hotels. You get a couple of stars from me after a long day of driving just for that!! Just seemed like any other pub when we walked in. There was a heated addition on the back for a smoking bar, non smoking in the main room. 2 pool tables and about 8 tv's. Not too many choices on tap, but the local beer they had was good. We ate our pizza (which was also yummy, I posted a pic of it--what was left of it anyway, when I got the idea to snap a yelp pic) and drank a couple beers, played two games of pool and started to head out. One of us needed to go to restroom before we WALKED back to the hotel (notice how I mentioned that again?!). This is where it gets interesting... Off to the side of the restroom hallway there happens to be a nightclub, complete with dance floor, DJ, separate bar and cool lights. They played a mix of good dance music. Not too much techno, and I promise I would tell you if they did-yuck!-but they didn't so I will move on. We had noticed security guys throughout the pub, but just a assumed it was a hotel bar so you may have lots of random things happen. But they don't, those securities guys however do not put up with a lot and many people who were not allowing others to enjoy the evening were led out. No smoking, no lap dances, no drinks on the dance floor, no creepy dudes that just stare at young women, no fighting. Just have a good time or go...pretty simple! Seems like it was a very popular local spot and we met lots of awesome people and had a great time. Definitely turned into a longer night than I expected or intended, but it was fun and a wonderful surprise. (And its within walking distance of the hotel we stayed at!)

Is ok, they need some updates to get people to come back in and feel safe enough to enjoy their time there. Drink special Long Island was in the smaller cup and was way watered down. 4$ Don't wear a solid black Tshirt or you won't get in.

Seldom does a dive bar truly live up to expectations. The Mucky Duck doesn't put on heirs. You'll never see the word seasonal or market on the menu. Or, even anything not fried. What you will see is the same tenders of bar that take pride in slinging their beers, shots and simple cocktails. If your looking for a mind blowing steak and a great wine I would suggest downtown. If you're looking for a fun atmosphere, great service and an authentic dive bar experience go to the Duck. Also, never harass the actual ducks or other water fowl. They enjoy the bar that bares their name as much as every other patron.

Southsides finest trash hangout. Typical bar food, below average. Service is terrible Bartenders are idiots

Had a lot of fun with their Karaoke. They play dance music between "performances" and keep the volume of the singers' voice pretty low so the focus for most of the crowd can be on their conversations and yet those who want to have fun trying to sing can do that, too! I think they've found just the right balance! Staff was friendly, too!

The owners and bar tenders are great love the pizza, great food and prices. The patio is open year round and same great service.

The staff could be a lot better. First impressions are important. It doesn't help the establishment when the doorman is a f*ckin dick.

Decided to stop by here on a weekend evening. The problem; I didn't realize that my good friend's dress was unacceptable by the standards here. He wore a pair of Levi's and a vneck shirt. The problem; it was all one color, so he wasn't allowed to enter. While I understand dress codes, this seemed a bit out there. it wasn't a regular, one color T-shirt which was cited. Neither of us looked trashy or trashed. Just a few guys out for a beer, probably stereotyping regular looking. I was wearing clothes I'd wear for a decent dinner with the lady, let alone a bar. Guessing the door man just had a stiff one that night. Im not going to gamble and show up again to be told my loafers or boots, glasses, or something aren't up to code, unbeknownst to me.

Meh, about sums it up. come here in the winter and expect poor service and mediocre food. Come here in the summer and you'll get exactly the same thing but you'll be able to sit on the MOST AMAZING patio on the southside of Indy. It wraps around the whole back of the building and sits on a large pond. VERY NICE. The patio is seriously the only reason to come to this bar, and its the only reason this bar got 3 stars rather than 2 from me.

    (3)
  • Erin C.

Definitely the best patio on the southside! The mucky duck has a lot of room to explore which is nice because it's usually packed! There is an inside bar with pool tables and karokee, a club side, and a giant patio out back. I cannot rave enough about the patio (great view of a pond too!). The drinks are quite cheap (especially when compared in Indy prices) and there are always several drink specials to choose from. The food is also great, the queso dip is legit amazing (get it with chips or bredsticks, neither will disappoint). As for the staff, they do well under pressure, it is generally quite packed and they work nonstop to give the best service they can.

So good! From the atmosphere and music played, to the delicious food, this place is a winner. We had the loaded cheese fries, and it really hit the spot!

Went there for lunch on May 7, 2015 after reading a review in Southern Living Magazine. A very hot, breezy day, but we wanted to sit outside and there are several tables with umbrellas and we were able to get one. Great view of the beach and activities - standup boards, parasailing, waverunners and more. If you eat outside you must go inside and place your order at the bar. Your name is called out over a loud speaker when your food is ready. The bartenders took our order, they were very friendly and we didn't have any problems that a couple of others mentioned. Inside was air conditioned and had wait staff. We had margaritas, fresh oysters, grouper sandwiches and shared a frozen key lime pie. All was great - one of the better casual beach lunches on our trip. The food was ready very quickly. There was a parking lot just for Mucky Duck patrons. We arrived just about noon and didn't have trouble getting a table, but by the time we left it was packed. Would definitely return on my next trip!

If you like to smoke come here. Food: okay Service: friendly and ample Atmosphere: better without smokers

  • Megan D.

Service was okay, the inside was too loud and the outside patio (basically part of the parking lot) is way too close to where people go outside to smoke. The sweet potato fries are AWESOME, and the food was good. I have to give them credit for using local farms, with awesome quality meat....BUT...it just felt like it was a place for young (20+ year olds) sports fan types who like to watch football and drink cheap beer. (Even though their beer list is decent.) Again, it would probably be great for 20-somethings who like loud bars, cigarette smoke, Bud Lite and sports, but I don't think it appeals to the type who like a nice quiet place to have a conversation and a decent micro-brew . Based on atmosphere and service I would only give this place about 2 stars (MEH). Based on the quality of food (I would order for carry out, although a little pricey) I would give this place 4 stars (Yay! I'm a fan!) but combined, I give it 3. It's a locally owned business and I would like to see it succeed, but it's too loud, the staff seem very inexperienced, they need more local brews, and PLEASE do something about the smoking so that the patio is more enjoyable for everyone!

I am writing this review of the patio, which is awesome; the club side, not-so-much. They have extended the patio, the busiest of the three sections:indoor bar, club, and patio. Wait staff and bartenders are great. I always have a good time here. If you are here for dinner, I recommend the char-grilled chicken. Warning: on busy nights, parking is a real bitch.

    (4)
  • Matt F.

There is a serious lack of outdoor dining, drinking, and partying on the south side. The Mucky Duck is quickly filling the void with their awesome outdoor bar and patio. Friendly staff and ownership keep the drinks full and the patrons happy. As far as bar pizza goes, I think theirs is pretty good. Others I know like the tenderloin. I had to take off a star for the lack of real drink specials. I don't expect much on weekends, but on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, I hate to pay $3 for a beer. Throw me a bone with $5-$6 pitchers one night during the week and I'll be happy.

  • Beth E.

Don't ever go here. Service is soooo slow, it took 20 minutes for a coke at the patio. The bartender and manager are extremely rude and quick to kick people out for complaining about the slow service. My friends and I will NEVER be back. I would recommend go anywhere else on the south side you will get a better experience. They have also been known to be rude to service members .
