Here's what you do, go buy yourself a pack of American Spirits, order 5 shots of Jager, play an entire Anthrax album (until Touch Tunes gets with the program and figures out who The Bloody Beetroots are) and play darts mega blotto. I don't smoke anymore, and returning to Indiana with bars that still allow it is disgusting, but if you're going to kill yourself this is the place to do it at.

Rude! The jerk calling himself the bartender last night (2/25/11) was rude. He wasn't happy with our table set-up when we first arrived and made us move. He wouldn't take more than one person's drink order (there were 5 in my party) at once. Apparently we were wasting his time. I will NEVER go back or suggest this joint to anyone! It's called customer service - learn how to provide it!

Such a great place. I like the chicken lockerbie (breaded). I'll go there for lunch, dinner, late night drinks, and sometimes to watch some football or basketball. Everyone there rules! I love that some of them even remember my order, which is always disgustingly complicated.

Its a dive, but I've had a lot of fun there before. The DJ's are usually pretty good when I've gone on some Tuesdays, prices are cheap....its a fun little bar to go to.

I think I need to go here more often. It somehow doesn't pop up on my "where should we go" radar enough anymore. Lockerbie Pub rules. Before the days of Sun King on draft, each time we'd walk in the door Jeff would get started pouring us a pitcher of Bud Light. He may intimidate some, but he is awesome and has a great memory. Lockerbie has some of the best pub food in town. Their fish and chips are top notch. I love their burgers with a side of onion chips. The horseradishy dip that comes with the chips makes me happy.

I love the Lockerbie- pretty good jukebox, cool booths by the windows, good food, good drinks, good people. It can get very crowded and smoky on certain nights, so be aware of the craziness you might encounter on a weekend night or the first Tuesday or every month when they host "Let Go" a fun/crazy/annoying (depending on your preference and level of intoxication) dance party.

The Bee, as it was introduced to me by a regular patron and how I will always remember it, was once the stuff of legend. Caddy-corner from the infamous 501 Tavern and in an area that was rough, dirty, and generally awesome well before the Mass Ave corridor was polished and great bars were lost to new condos. It's still got that vibe, but lately it's more of a tourist destination for dive-iness (much like the now relatively awful Alley Cat). The daytime/early-afternoon is still the classic alchy bar it's always been, but at night (especially weekends) the crowd gets dramatically younger and louder. The average fare consists of frequent regulars from the downtown neighborhood, people in the service industry, hipsters, and the occasional tourist. It's also actually a bit pricey for a dive, and the food is only really good if your drunk. On the plus side (big pluses) are Jeff, one of the best bartenders in Indy, and the fact that they pour one mean cocktail. A red bull and vodka is likely to arrive almost clear if you're known, and in Indy that's not hard to accomplish. This is a great place for shrugging off the pains of the day, getting in a fight with your girlfriend, and/or setting up for the mammoth hangover you'll be blogging about tomorrow. You know you'll love it.

I usually end up here when I make a trip down to Indy to visit friends. It's a dive bar and it has a good juke box. It also has a pool table, if you're into that, I guess. You can actually taste the liquor in the mixed drinks, which lets me know I am getting my money's worth. I also have no idea where this place is actually located, because I'm always a little too wasted when I get there.

Neighborhood watering hole for downtown Lockerbie court dwellers. This no-frills bar has everything you need: darts, pool, a juke box, and great beer specials. Don't be surprised to see the general manager of swanky Oceanaire chilling out at the bar in his wire-rimmed glasses--I have.

This was our last bar to try last night. It was about 1:00 am so the typical crowd for that late at night was there. The place seemed nice but when we walked in they said that they weren't going table service & to order at the bar. The bar was crowded so we sat in a booth. They had music playing and the typical bar/pub things there to do i.e. Dart board pool table. I had the Cosmo. It was very good but I've had better. We sat near the window so had a good view for people watching. I believe the Leather Room was next door. Fun evening.

Standard local bar. Nothing too special, but prices were reasonable. We just stopped in for a beer and some cheese fries. Might be back to try the burgers.

Haven't been here in awhile but pretty much what everyone says is correct- Fried pickles + tenderloins = nom (although I'm not sure if combined what they'd taste like). Kudos to the chef! The owner is ridiculously smart and knows a thing or 2 about good food + good drinks, and I definitely will be frequenting here more in 2013.

Very yummy BBQ pulled pork sandwich and awesome onion chips served with horsey sauce.

By far the best breaded tenderloin in Indianapolis. Not pounded thin like others. Relatively thick; however still large. Matched up with the French fries and you have one of the best sandwich combos the city has to offer. If you want to mix it up a little go with the Chicken Lockerbie this is a can't miss sandwich. We've been going to Lockerbie for over 20 years, and have never had a bad meal

The Indianapolis Star states "Lockerbie Pub (631 E. Michigan St.). They have the best fried pickles in the universe, and I'm considered a fried pickle aficionado -- plus they're really inexpensive. This hole-in the- wall pub is a great place to kick back and meet new people. Bonus: Monday night is trivia night. Super fun."

Yea beeotch! The Lockerbie is my jam. Ok the first part just popped into this review when it suggested I make a review. This bar has been my go to place since I turned 21. I lived downtown for a stint and my roommates and I were there almost every weekend. I spent many a birthday and special night there celebrating. The food is satisfactory. Mini tacos and chicken salad sandwich are a couple of my favorites. There is just something about a dingy bar that brings out the alcoholic in me. Since I live south now I dont make it there much, but if you see me there on any given night.....watch out!

Initially, a snap judgment of Lockerbie Pub conjures up feelings of angst. My eyes and nose tell me I'm back in my small, cornfield-surrounded town and walked into a dingy townie bar that has a faint smell of grease and something stale. Nothing good will come of this. Sitting back in a black, vinyl chair that you only seem to find at VFW's and Moose Lodge's, I fear that the only thing on tap begins with "Bud" and ends with "Light", and craft beer means a bottle of Blue Moon...with no orange slice. Luckily, the chalk board on the wall tells me otherwise. The draft list has Sun King, Scarlet Lane, Taxman, Urban Chestnut, and Lagunitas. Saved...but still skeptical...and half convinced that someone from high school who considers high school "the best four years of my life" is going to sit at the bar. The menu is standard bar food, complete with burgers, sandwiches, fries, and fried munchies. I'm going to be as basic as my paper place mat and get the tenderloin. Questions always arise in between ordering and eating, because I hate wasting my calories on bland, wimpy food, and often times these types of establishments leave me with feelings of regret. Was it taken out of a freezer pre-made and thrown into the fryer, or was it tenderized properly and hand-breaded first? Is there any love and pride in this representation of our state sandwich? Should I have forgone eating and stayed famished? One slider version of the sandwich later, I am relieved to say that I made the right choice with Lockerbie's tenderloin. It was hammered down to the right size and not too thin, hand-tossed, coated with the right ratio of meat:breading, and fried so that the meat stayed juicy yet firm and the breading had a crunch to it. I would hope that this would get a thumbs up from the Tenderloin Connoisseur too. Better yet, I had some pretty fabulous fried pickles in a secret dipping sauce in between my bites of tenderloin. The characteristics of my pickles were quite similar to the tenderloin: juicy yet firm pickle, breading with a crunch. Nothing the least bit soggy on my plate! So I may have overreacted walking into the Lockerbie Pub. I later found out that the pub aims for sense of familiarity and coziness, like one big living room where everybody knows everybody. I'll try to keep that in mind the next time I get invited to my hometown VFW. Still, it's going to be hard going knowing there's a classic, Hoosier-loving tenderloin and fried pickle chips on Michigan Ave. calling out my name.

Nothing to not like about Lockerbie. If you want a nice cocktail or a nice, cold draft... This is your spot. I mean, really, the available options are astounding. They have daily specials like the meatloaf sandwich. If you've read my bio, you would know my fascination for meatloaf. (my wife makes amazing meatloaf) Small, quaint bit just about everything you need. Show up for lunch or just because. They never disappoint.

Love this place. If you're away from home and want a place that feels like home, this is it. Good food. Good drinks. Great bartenders. I might move to Indy for this bar. Love.

I've been to Lockerbie 3 times in the last few months. Not having a good experience the first time my group decided we should give it a fair shake and try again. We all like small hole in the wall places. Here's the problem with Lockerbie. The bartenders are absolute jerks!!!! In 3 visits not only did they not smile once, they don't even look up to see I'm holding cash trying order a drink. When our food was ready the bartender actually walked to our table and told us, "your food is up in the kitchen window" and then he left. I actually had to walk to the kitchen window and get our food myself. The food wasn't great but it's what you'd expect from a dive bar. What I didn't expect was to be treated like I was being an imposition. So long rude bearded bartender, treat others poorly because you won't see me again.

Lot's of back slapping young 'professionals?' here during early evening hours. Not sure of those are the regulars or not but they seemed to be having a great time. This place lends itself for you to get rowdy, have some grub (none of which is outstanding but decent) and chill at the small bar or stake out a table. Decent selection on tap too. The over-talked about ever present PBR (does anyone realize this beer tasted like poo 30 years ago when our dad's drank it?) is there too. The societal trend of anti-metros are always present too, outstanding beards men!!

Nice laid back place, lunch favorite. Stiff drinks, Whiskey, fried pickles and Jennifer are the best! I've had other food that is great, but I get the pickles EVERY time. Loaded potato skins, turkey sandwich, and several other things are a highlight. Great for a quick drink, lunch, evening drink, or jump starting a drunken bender:)

Excellent food and a pretty good beer selection (although almost all of it are bottles). It's a little pricey, but honestly worth it.

Nice local restaurant and bar to go to. I like to come here to play some pool and drink beer. Food is great and beer and alcohol selection is great. I n a very hesitate in coming to this place.

This is one of our favorite places to grab dinner or a drink! As far as I am concerned, their cheeseburger is one of the best in the city. The husband is a self-proclaimed chili aficionado, and swears they have some of the very best! They have a good tap list, too. Service is sometimes a little slow, but always friendly. This spot always has an interesting mix of people hanging out, too. It does tend to get a little loud on Thursdays and Fridays after work, so don't plan for intimate conversations.

This is one of my favorite dives in Indy! A few years ago, it seemed to be mostly young professionals and hipsters, but now the crowd seems a little older. Drinks are always cheap and strong. Draft list is small, but usual has a good beer or two. The food is mediocre, but they have fried food galore for 3-4 dollars, which is great for a drunken snack.

Stopped in this old comfy pub because we pass it on the way to St. Mary's every Saturday. Love the history inside, it's been there since the '30's. It's a pub. There is a pool table, TV's, booths and a bar. They have a few micro brews on tap and several different Indiana brews in bottles/cans plus all the other normal bar drinks. One guy was waiting at 6 on Friday and he took care of all of us faster than most places with several wait staff. They have a large menu for a pub and specials too. I had a wonderful grilled tenderloin and my husband had the fish special. The food was great, hot and fast. If you like the laid back atmosphere of a local pub this IS the place. We will definitely go back.

My heart belongs to Lockerbie. This is one of the 4 or 5 local bars that I would say I even remotely frequent. Geoff, the bartender, is a class act. The jukebox has Anthrax,Mastodon, Rihanna and Scissor Sisters. Speaking of Scissor Sisters, any time I have ever put 'take your mama out' on the jukebox there, it has 100% of the time sent the bar into a full on sing-a-long with mugs of beer swinging through the air and all. I'm so freaking glad I live near that place. The world needs more Lockerbie. I will say that there was one time I was in there and 7 or 8 bros, totally unrelated and not in the same group, were all drinking cans of PBR and wearing flannel. I took a picture of it. If I can find the picture, I will add it. To me, it made the night hilarious, but for some I know that could be a put off.

Do you like fried food? no? Well they do have a few things you'd like. But if you answered yes then you want to eat here. No, not grab a snack EAT here. Burgers make a good main but the things these guys and gals deep fry would make the state fair proud. Deep fried macaroni and cheese, deep fried spring rolls, deep fried pickles, Deep fried YUMMYY That said: Veg: You can get any of hte burgers with a black bean patty or try the always wonderful spinach melt, grilled cheese, or veggie sandwich (which carnivores can add bacon to) Plus the fried menu of deliciousness. great place for vegetarians. GF: French fries. salad. bunless. those are your options. Sorry :( Drinks: Local favorites, imports and such on tap. Wide slection definitely able to whet your palate! Atmosphere: Divey, good place for sports, pool, darts, or conversation. No dance floor. In short. The bie is AWESOME go there and enjoy!

Lockerbie is one of my most favorite places to grab a late night snack. The kitchen doesn't close until 12 am, so nachos, fried pickles, cheeseburgers, or other bar fare cravings are easily satisfied. Great service and usually good drink specials make this a frequent stop.

Lockerbie Pub is one of those places where everyone knows your name. It is conveniently located in my back yard and I am very thankful for this. You will be hard pressed to find a better bartender than Geoff. The guy is amazing. I will not have gone to the pub for a while and as soon as I walk in he is headed back with my beer. Find that service somewhere else. I think not. He even runs out the door to say "hi" if I am walking through the neighborhood. Service is superb here and Geoff should be recognized for his efforts. The pub has decent enough food for a pub. The cheeseburger is pretty amazing and crinkle fries are a plus. Overall the pub is one of those places I would love to hang out in more, however, one thing draws me back. Smoke. The place has very poor ventilation and it can get very smoky. Be warned. I would hang out here more if I didn't dislike smoke as much as I do. Overall it is a great addition to Lockerbie Square. I am just happy to have a pub I can wander over to and grab a drink and a great cheeseburger. Just wish I didn't walk out smelling like an ashtray.

The Lockerbie Pub has the best pork tenderloin in the city. It is incredible. I don't know much about the rest of the menu because if I'm eating at the Lockerbie, it can only be the tenderloin. I don't like my tenderloin to be cracker thin, but I also don't like it to be a breaded pork chop. This is the perfect blend of thin and crispy while nice and meaty. Great pool table and the staff is always nice.

I adore Lockerbie Pub! It's even better now that the smoking ban is in effect. The bartenders are superb. Try the fried pickles if you're in need of a little salty grease...mmmm, bar food!

It's a dive bar. Let's get that out of the way right now. If you're looking for high class and high prices, you won't find that here. That said, it's my favorite dive in Indianapolis. The service may come across as slightly gruff the first few times, but once you've been there a while, or if you come with regulars, they remember your name, and treat you right. All the bartenders know my favorite beers. I could start singing the Cheers theme song, but you get my point, I think. As far as food goes, it's my favorite fried food late-night munchies place in the city. The fried pickles and mac n' cheese bites are Om Nom tastic. None of the food has ever really been particularly disappointing, although if you're veggie/vegan, your choices may be a tad limited. I admittedly have a soft spot for dive bars, but I am slightly picky, and as far as dives go, this is one of the cleaner, less gross places on the map. It's my local spot. I love it.

This place has a casual atmosphere, a good mix of clientele and was not too crowded on a Saturday night. My friends swear by the fried pickles for $3, too.

I feel like I'm really giving the Lockerbie Pub a true test. I'll never get over the smoke... it kills me. Beyond that... they've my heart over. Here's the deal: I rarely go out to watch a sporting event. Consider that games are near 3 hours and I prefer sports with pints and well that racks up quite the bill. Saturday was a special occasion... as a Notre Dame fan... it was a must watch versus USC, as I had a very good feeling of triumph (the first good feeling in 10 years). The needs are specific: the game on, the game on with sound, cheap food, and beer. After a miserably quixotic attempt to go to the heart of sporting event watching at Kilroy's downtown (the same night as High School Football games, et al -- how were we s'pose to know!?), we wandered back to our neighborhood, practically acquiescing and thinking we'd just go home... then we thought... screw the smoke, let's go get cozy at Lockerbie! And, lo! barely anyone is there aka barely any smoke, and Jeff is whistling the Irish fight song and turns off the jukebox and turns up the game. Huzzah! In a world of fickle service and flippant 'tenders... this guy is awesome. Sure, he has his needs (like let's box up that food instead of leave it on the table while playing pool). Fare enough. Not just Notre Dame won that night, I won big. By ordering the meatloaf sandwich, I became a very victorious human. Jeff looked at me in the eyes and said, "I'm adding cheese to your sandwich." What am I suppose to say to that other than ride the wave? I rode that wave atop the mound of onion rings, to. Put your onion chips away, give me the rings, the whole lot of 'em. Whoa The State Fair can't keep up with this deep fried delicacy. Annnnnd... Sun King Cowbell Porter freshly tapped. Victory!

My favorite near-east-side pub. We live close and go here regularly because of the friendly staff. Always a friendly crowd in the place, too. The food menu is more than the typical bar food, priced fairly and served hot. A great spot for lunch, too.

I don't really like lockerbie... I know it's a town fave but: 1) It's a dump. I don't think anyone argues that the facilities are nice and/or clean. Usually I don't care about this, often even appreciate it, but only because it generally comes with... 2) A feeling of indiscriminate welcome is missing here. The servers tend to look at any new person with a suspicious eye, unless you come with a regular. I'm not anxious to patronize a business where they act like I crashed their house party. 3) The one guy likes to play like a ton of metallica. No thanks. 4) The parking lot is narrow and perilous, and people peel out of there wasted all the time. Nobody's taking any keys or calling any cabs here! Oh, and I forgot, one time we on a whim wanted to shoot some pool and a bunch of jerks insisted that we had to play the winner of the last game for the right to play ourselves, with our money. Ugh. Seriously hate it here.

  • Scotty Z.

When you're just "over it" -- don't worry, there's a pub for that. For the most part, the Lockerbie stays true to its dive bar roots. Nothing fancy -- darts and pool, plenty of room to eat decent food, quench your thirst with plenty of beer choices (including some Sun Kings), and hang out with a low key crowd who are also probably hoping to evade most of the idiots, tourists, and yuppies you likely passed along the way to the bar. It didn't take them terribly long to know my usual order. Also, Jeff is one of the best bartenders and servers in the city, and he means business. Take my word for it until you discover for yourself.

Yeah, not the best place to go in Indy. Looking online, it looks like it'll be an old "oak bar" type of place. Not the case. The supposed jukebox was not playing because of the insanely loud TVs playing Thursday night football. The beer selection is less than mediocre. The service you ask? SUCKS. Absolutely terrible. The food is even worse. DO NOT GO HERE.

  • Kjirsten K.

A great low key neighborhood pub to enjoy a pitcher and good food. Fridays they have a fish and chips special for $6 as well as $5 domestic pitchers. They have lots of yummy sandwiches and Sun King on tap. Good manners go a long way with server Jeff, so remember to say please and thank you.

  • Benjamin H.

I miss the old jukebox, but this is one of my favorite spots. The food is above average and they serve Sun King as well as re-fill growlers.

  • James T.

"Nice old style sports bar" Nice local sports bar with a mixed crowd and good beer selection. It feels like a safe area with several other local bars, like the Rathskeller. The onion rings were good too. The very cool bartender said the place gets rockin' around 2am!

  • Michelle W.

The greatest dive bar in Indy. IMHO Jeff the Bartender is the best bartender in Indy. With full sleeves and a gruff manner the faint of heart might be turned off. Those who are in the know can be sure of great service and strong drinks. if you come there enough they will know you by name and have a drink for you before you even order. The crowd varies depending on the time you go in there. Neighborhood drunks frequent in the early evening hours, a bit later the service industry workers flood in after their shifts in the swanky restaurants downtown, the neighborhood crowd is always a constant. if you stay particularly late you can mingle with hipsters and maybe a local rock star or two on the weekends. There is a pool table, jukebox, and darts. On the weekends the music is particularly loud. All in all a great place to become a local. The Bar staff is friendly once you put your time in and the crowd is varied enough that anyone can feel comfortable.
